im just SO crushed by season six, like it’s absolutely the one i loathe the most, but it’s also has one of the most heartbreaking conclusions because it just goes to show that not only did we have to grieve buffy’s death at the end of season five, but we had to essentially grieve for her continued life at the end of season six as well.

of all the things that went down between seeing red and the finale, you can argue for ten million years what event was more tragic, and play the trauma olympics with who was technically traumatized more, but the MAIN CHARACTER, the WOMAN LEADING THE SHOW, buffy…… buffy was the afterthought. spike tried to rape her, she lost a dear friend to a stray bullet, her other friend relapsed and became the power and broke every unspoken code, and at the end of the day, the only grieving she could do was internally. she couldn’t grieve for what she lost with spike, couldn’t grieve tara’s loss, a person she could trust and confide in, and she couldn’t grieve that she’s lost her best friend to the darkness because nothing would LET her grieve. it was as if she’d resigned herself to the chaos because how else can you justify what was going through her mind when she agreed to SPIKE of all people to babysit dawn when he’d just tried to rape her. the fact that xander had to even say it, like WHERE was the common sense? who in their right mind even thinks that?

because by the end of it, buffy WASN’T in her right mind, because she was truly and utterly alone. because who else was gonna take care of dawn? and who was she gonna run to, to save her? who did she fucking have left to lend her an ear without judgement, without hatred, without SHAME? no one. because by the end of season six, buffy the character herself had been resigned to her fate as the universe’s butt monkey. getting fucked up ten ways to sunday by a vampire, by a misogynist power-hungry creep, by a guy who was SUPPOSED to be her friend aka jonathan, by her own best friend’s inability to control her impulses, by death, destruction, literally every horrible thing you can think of. buffy was RESIGNED to it all, and that’s why season six can burn in hell because joss and his goons did that to her. had her sacrifice herself to save the world, only to come back and resign herself to the fact that she may have been resurrected, but she was resurrected to be ALONE. that she was pulled outta heaven and into her rotting corpse so that she could coddle mr. I now have a soul, miss. I may have relapsed and lost my shit but im better now, to raise a child that was thrust upon her by the gods, to do everything and anything to protect a world that just had fun chewing her up and spitting her out. that was season six - for buffy to go through every tragedy imaginable, and have to KEEP her grief to herself because the world, her friends, and even her enemies would always take precedence over the caretaking of her own soul.

at the end of the day, i’d argue buffy didn’t come into any power. buffy was ALWAYS the power, but before, she was able to work with it, to be a PART of it, and ultimately sacrificed herself to gift her sister a new lease on life and relieve HERSELF of the power that bound her to her suffering. but at the end of season six? she lost to it. the power took from her what even angelus couldn’t, and that was her grit. she lost to it and let it beat her ass until the shitshow finally ended. im so glad we’re never ever getting a reboot because no one has to see Let’s Fetishize Womanpain on television. i hope sarah never signs a contract for this shitshow ever again. good riddance.

not to be controversial bc I know this is like…not in line with shifting opinions on fanfic comment culture but if there’s a glaring typo in my work I will NOT be offended by pointing it out. if ao3 fucks up the formatting…I will also not be offended by having this pointed out…

‘looking forward to the next update’ and ‘I hope you update soon!’ are different vibes than a demand, and should be read in good faith because a reader is finding their way to tell you how much they love it. I will not be mad at this.

‘I don’t usually like this ship but this fic made me feel something’ is also incredibly high praise. I’m not going to get mad at this.

even ‘I love this fic but I’m curious about why you made [x] choice’ is just another way a reader is engaging in and putting thought into your work.

I just feel like a lot of authors take any comment that’s not perfectly articulated glowing praise in the exact manner they’re hoping to receive it in bad faith.

fic engagement has been dropping across the board over the last several years, and yes it’s frustrating but it isn’t as though I can’t see how it happens. comment anxiety can be a real thing. the last thing anyone wants to do is offend an author they love, and that means sometimes people default to silence.

idk where I’m going with this I guess aside from saying unless a comment is outright attacking me I’m never going to get mad at it, and I think a lot of authors should feel the same way. ESPECIALLY TYPOS PLZ GOD POINT OUT MY TYPOS.

im shaking about everything happening in rafah right now. i can’t imagine so distressed they’re blowing them to smithereens, you can see the refugees hands and toros and legs blown apart. they’ve concentrated everyone into one area and at 3am in the morning they bombed them, threw bombs all over them. at the same time at that same moment israel aired an ad on the superbowl painting themselves the victim. saying they need to get the refugees home. they rejected the hostage exchange peace plan offered by hamas. they rejected a hostage exchange. they rejected the hostage exchange. they rejected the hostage exchange. saying it would be done soon. and now they carpet bomb the civilian refugees that they ordered to be concentrated into one area. in the past hour alone 30 confirmed martyrs. 60 confirmed martyrs. now possibly a 100 confirmed martyrs. the death is outrunning the time on the clock. it’s all just so much. it’s so heartbreaking and cruel. and still there are people in the world blaming us for all this. blaming palestinians for all this. how will they explain it? maybe cnn or the BBC or the guardian will say “100+ Palestinians found dead after being caught in artillery fire” they won’t say we’re killed, targeted, murdered, bombed. they won’t even say we’re human even if our guts and brain matter are stuck on the floor. i’m losing my mind.
