Visited Sabai Thai over the weekend with a friend! I got the lychee thai iced tea and we split the curry puffs and the chicken satay. For my entree I got the grilled flank steak and the sticky coconut rice!

This Week in BL - 2024 is Ending, Not With A Bang But With A Whimper
Organized, in each category, with ones I'm enjoying most at the top.
Dec 2024 Week 4

Ongoing Series - Thai
Your Sky AKA How to Train Your Seme (Sun iQIYI) ep 6 of 12 - Oh they are so fucking cute. Lee maybe the best brother wingman ever in BL. He is so entirely on Fah’s side. And we get sweet soft first kisses with permission asked. Yeah!
Stupid phone call!

ThamePo (Fri YT) ep 3 of 12 - Not gonna lie, hard call over whether this should take the top spot this week. I adore this show.
This lead pair is absolutely stunning. I love that the story is about external drama with others, not manufactured drama or miscommunication between the leads. In fact, the romance that we see developing is one characterized by careful attention, gentleness, and patience. They enjoy each other‘s company in a restful calming way. We are watching them become each other’s safe space. Neither of them realizing how much they needed that from the world. I hope the conflict stays external and they get to evolve as a couple while narrative tension stays external.

Love Sick 2024 (Sun iQIYI) ep 15 end - i’m quite pleased that they kept most of the stuff in the forest. And I actually like that they swapped it around so that this was the end of the series. I think it makes for a better more solid ending. I'm disappointed that 10 years on and PhunNoh still don't get to have a decent kiss. Since I think the new pair would’ve done fine with it. In the end I think neither Love Sick really come out on top. They’re both represent their time although this new one was oddly nostalgic.
I chronicaled my experience with 2024 as compared to 2014 here including ep-by-ep recaps and ratings, as well as a summary judgement over all. Spoiler...... all that work and it was, ultimately, a draw. I guess 10 years a not all THAT much has changed in Thail BL. Therefore this Love Sick gets the same as the original, 7/10
The Heart Killers (Weds Gaga) ep 6 of 12 - I love the tension and the slow rollout of the secret being revealed. It’s really beautifully done. Joong is knocking his role out of the park, I have to say. He’s kind of stealing this show for me. Also I loved the foreshadowing of drawing the make up tears on his face and then, of course, us knowing that there will be tears from Fidel in this episode once he knows The Truth. Very nice, boyos.

Fourever You (Thurs YT) ep 13 of 16 - I think i love Arthirt best in the world. love seeing someone more an arse than Johan. To Johan. Also, by all means take Ngern's shirt off. We all being all kinds of respectful on this side of the screen. Pinky promise.

Caged Again (Fri Gaga) ep 8 of 10 - Adorable date and sweet kisses. But NGL this episode was a bit boring for me.

Perfect 10 Liners (Sun YT) ep 9 of 24 - I think that I like ForceBook best when they are just being casual long-term boyfriends together. You know, chwill chwill sabai sabai. I see Santa is back in his "punk ass little brother" role. Suits him well enough. But I have to say that Junior is absolutely stealing this show. He’s truly stellar. Meanwhile, what an adorable hug and meet cute. I enjoyed the ending of this episode. I admit, I’m not sold on the new pair, but I’m more willing to give them a chance now then I was when this was first announced.
Secret Love 60-81 end - what a very odd show. But I forgive a lot for pining semes and the stepbrother trope. 7/10
Ongoing Series - Not Thai
Our Youth AKA Miseinen: Mijukuna Oretachi wa Bukiyo ni Shinkochu (Japan Tues Gaga) ep 8 of 11 - oh its so painful. No one does this level of suffering like Japan. Just press that bruise and feel the sticky sweet ache.

See Your Love (Taiwan Weds Gaga) ep 11 of 13 - it is all very important and absolutely adorable but where Sean just kind gestures desperately at the bed and Shao Peng muscles him into it was absolutely fantastic. All the picking up and tossign arroudn and smily fun kissing in the shower. It'll all just GREAT. Also, THAT pregnancy line was epic.
Eternal Butler (Taiwan Fri Gaga) eps 3 of 12 - It's actually quite sweet. Tonally quite odd, and definitely jarring when pitted agains the rest of the end of year offerings, but I think I like it? I don’t know where it’s going. Or what it’s doing. And I don’t entirely trust it. Because of the production house track record. But I am enjoying it. Also, the horny herb drug is back. This is a seriously old trope. Like 1970s old romance trope.
Teenager Judge (Vietnam Sat YT) ep 13 of ? - I'm bored.
It's airing but......
Spare Me Your Mercy (Thurs iQIYI) finished it's run. I don't know what to do. Reviews are all over the damn place. Do I watch?
Be Moon - Falling for my enemy's son (China YT) movie from HBD Studio. I can't find it. You?
Winter Is Not The Death of Summer (Thai ???) - has been picked up to air on WeTV, or something? Criminals who meet in prison fall in love. I did find it on YouTube, initially un-subbed, then subs happened by which time I got distracted. It is very pulp but intriguing. For now it's to the wayside until someone tells me it landed safely. Occasionally Thai pulps want to be edgy and it's not a good look on them. But sometimes they do good.
The Renovation (Thai mini One31) 2 eps - Writer turns his blossoming romance with holiday resort owner into a novel. Is it worth tracking down? That is the question.
0.5D (Japan ????) 4 eps - Supposedly a now completed short. "Sales ace, Sada, has a secret that only his junior, Daiki, knows. He has pretended to have a gf for years, resulting in him being a virgin. But now Sada has fallen in love. Confused, Sada seeks advice from his junior." I sense another queer Cyrano De Bergerac. I can't find and it's got very poor reviews, so Imma stop looking. Info here.
It Ended But?
Blue Canvas of Youthful Days (China Sun Viki) paused at eps 9-10 of 12 - I have been told the ending is OK if not great. I just haven't been inspired to watch.
In Case You Missed it
I've started my end of year wraps. Here's the 2024 Trend Report. My best of year wards are still to come. Watch this space.
Next Week Looks Like This:
Final still to come in 2024:
12/29 Sangmin Dinneaw (Thai Sun iQIYI) ??eps - trailer Childhood friends (Thai & Korean) reunite after being apart for ten years. As the boys reconnect, their bond matures and feelings of romance develop.
2025 Line Up

BL Announced for 2025 - PART 2

🏳️🌈Bridal Wedding Attire🏳️🌈
There are many styles when it comes to bridal wedding attire. This previous post has an assortment of bride and groom outfits. However, depending on where the couple is from or where they buy their attire, styles and fabrics will vary. Here are videos and photos that show some of that beautiful variety!
"Here you’ll see a variety of different dressing styles for traditional Thai wedding dresses. All styling prepared by Pearl Ruktawan Yuttawongs of The Phukaw, Los Angeles." (Thailand Insider)
In our companion post about a groom's attire, there are explanations on how a morning ceremony and evening ceremony may call for wearing different outfits for each. For brides, these are some more detailed examples:

"The Ruean Ton consists of a collarless blouse and ankle-length sarong or sinh. The sinh has a striped pattern, usually horizontal and towards the bottom of the skirt. The blouse has five buttons down the center and three-quarter sleeves. The blouse may have the same color as the sinh or its patterns or contrast entirely. Named after the teak houses of Dusit Palace in Bangkok that were built as a more informal reception for the King’s subjects, ...Today, the Ruean Ton is often worn for religious ceremonies & holidays, and going to the temple, and as a uniform in the hospitality industry." (Thai-Shanghai Embassy)

"As one of the most famous and elegant traditional dresses from Thailand, Chakkri boasts a grandeur appropriate for any formal occasion. The outfit includes a long tube skirt with two front pleats and a sabai. A sabai is a top made from silk that wraps around the shoulders and trails to the ground on one side" (Thailand Insider). "Named after the Chakri Maha Prasat Throne Hall, the Chakri is what most people think of when they refer to a traditional Thai dress... the Chakri is also worn to royal ceremonies and by brides-to-be for daytime engagement or wedding ceremonies" (Thai-Shanghai Embassy).
"Named for Siwalai Garden in the Grand Palace, the Siwalai consists of a long-sleeve blouse with a short standing collar, a sabai draped across the chest like the Chakraphat, and a sinh with a front pleat that can be a separate piece or sewn into the blouse as one dress similar to the Boromphiman. The Siwalai is also commonly seen at royal ceremonies or at very formal daytime and evening events." (Thai-Shanghai Embassy; image from Milan Wedding/Thailand Insider).
For those who may want to look for a gown, many Thai wedding studios offer a selection of wedding gowns in white, cream, and other colors. Milan Wedding Studio has a photobook of some examples, as well as Vanus Couture.

🏳️🌈A Closer Look: Pha Sinh & Bridesmaids' Attire🏳️🌈
"Thai women are commonly seen wearing a full-length ‘pha sinh,’ a tubular skirt wrapped around the waist generally made of Thai silk. Pha sinhs come in many colors with contrasted bands around the hem, paired with long-sleeved silk blouses." (Thailand Insider)

However, bridal parties can wear an assortment of styles, depending on the choices of the couple and the ceremonies they attend.

Bridesmaids wearing chong kraben and matching shawls.

"Amy Morakot's bridesmaid's dress in a one-shoulder dress, simple but beautiful and classic." (Praew Wedding)

Thereafter, Buddha’s chief disciple Sariputra admitted Sīvalī into the Sangha. The Burmese believe that he is still living, that he can be invoked to come by a special incantation and that his mere invisible presence will bring them prosperity and good fortune.

Pa is a short form of Pacha Sadhusamakom which means always socializing with good people.
Ga is a short form of Gara Poonyamahoratut which means to be a good person, and do good things every day, every night, and every breathe.

Pra Archan Man Phurithatto
Pra Archan Mun Bhuridatta Thera was a Thai bhikkhu from Isan region who is credited, along with his mentor, Pra Archan Sao Kantasīlo, with establishing the Thai Forest Tradition or “Kammaṭṭhāna tradition” that subsequently spread throughout Thailand and to several countries abroad.
Biography
Pra Archan Mun was born in Baan Kham Bong, a farming village in Ubon Ratchathani Province, Isan.
Ordained as a monk in 1893, he spent the remainder of his life wandering through Thailand, Burma, and Laos, dwelling for the most part in the forest, engaged in the practice of meditation. He attracted an enormous following of students and, together with his teacher, Sao Kantasīlo (1861–1941) established the Thai Forest Tradition (the kammaṭṭhāna tradition) that subsequently spread throughout Thailand and to several countries abroad. He died at Wat Suddhavasa, Sakon Nakhon Province.
Forest meditation
Pra Archan Mun’s mode of practice was solitary and strict. He followed the vinaya (monastic discipline) faithfully, and also observed many of what are known as the 13 classic dhutanga (ascetic) practices, such as living off alms food, wearing robes made of cast-off rags, dwelling in the forest and eating only one meal a day. Monks following this tradition are known as thudong, the Thai pronunciation of this Pali word.
Searching out secluded places in the wilds of Thailand and Laos, he avoided the responsibilities of settled monastic life and spent long hours of the day and night in meditation. In spite of his reclusive nature, he attracted a large following of students willing to put up with the hardships of forest life in order to study with him.

The logo for Chiangmai Rice Noodle features Sabai, an elephant who loves eating rice noodles.
Sabai Sabai สบาย สบาย ~🏝️ This Thai phrase means "relaxed" or "chill." My clients
My client hopes that everyone who visits to enjoy their Chiang Mai noodle soup can experience the unique, laid-back vibe of Chiang Mai. Since the client is a local mom-and-pop restaurant, I incorporated hand-drawn illustrations to bring a sense of warmth and approachability to the brand.

root cost
Matcha makes me tumble inside out.
Walking 2 KM to make it to a tiny matcha bar somewhere in my OG CBD is crazy. Closing time of this nook is at friggin' 9 PM. Only walk-ins are accepted. First, I got lost because I'm super clunky. I know how to "get there" but, I panicked because the rain is bugso-bugso (plus, tamad akong mag-payong) and the last time I was there was ages ago. LOL. The streets are so familiar but I guess, I'm used to riding cars and cabs instead of allowing myself to wander and wonder. Gah. I was like: Mhiemaaa, ano na 'to? Dati memorize mo mga liko-liko dito. Ngayon, para kang bagong salta diyan. Second, there are a few strangers I asked for help because my mobile data is so clunky, ergo, the Google map seems to hallucinate or is it just, yet again? The first girl I asked was a runner na parang alta. Wrong move. She looked at her Google map tapos, struggle rin siya. Pa-GB side siya, so alam na this. Then, there was this guy who spent about 5 to 10 minutes "coaching" me on how to get to my destination. I'll get the hang of it. Ang galing niya mag-himay ng landmarks kasi nga bobo tayo as left and right. May actions pa siya like sa "malaking stoplight" sa may kakaliwaan from my Point A. Baka na-sense niya sobrang bobo ko kasi ang hirap. Hahaha.
And so, while I was mentally taking note of the landmarks he shared which I barely remember talaga before I walked into the paths ne enumerated, tawang-tawa ako. Mabilis pa rin pala akong maglakad because Ultraboost beats estetikkk na walastikkk Ivy Park chunky pairs ever. I told myself that I have to be in the matcha bar's door in under 30 minutes. EMY. By mabilis maglakad, I was surprised because I don't like "walking" lalo 'pag may puddles and 'di mo sure if biglang buhos ang ulan. And then, boogsh. Ang galing. What greeted me was an OG Starbucks branch ages ago. Tawang-tawa ako e. Hahahaha. No TMI na 'to kasi hahaba na naman. Basta, tugatog ng kabobohan as an avoidant bitch levels 10000000x x 10000000x. What's more interesting is that I felt as though I apparated in 200X to 201X, my "peak" season. But, now, I laughed silently because, girllll, 'di peak 'yun. PEAK-PEAK-AN szn. LOL. Ahhhh. From the Bronx talaga and the gutters, win.
So, what? Let this be a reminder that anything for matcha, laban. LUL. Hahahaha. Super love the sapak na wapak ng bitter taste netong matcha mixes nila. Napaka unapologetic. Napaka tacca, matcha ba? ETO KA. ETO KAAAA. Sabay kutos 3x with bigwas. Super kinis nung wrist nung nag-prep nung matcha. I told her that I'd take videos but not her face for her privacy. She smiled and thanked me. The real rizzzzz action. PAKKK. I don't know if it's matcha era na finally sa Pinas. Pero dahil may trending at pinipilahang very EMYYYY matcha sa _ _ _, hahahahaha. Kadire naman. LOL. Very pedestrian sila honestly or baka naman kasi nga, effort to adjust to the market to the tune of bull's eye target market and aspirational target market. So, sige. Hayaan na natin. Right now, TGIF because, sobrang kulo ng inside out ko. Why? Matcha + Thai Food + Singha + Wine = Alam na this. How kulo? Parang dehydrated na ako since 5 AM, poop is liferrr. Hahahaha. Pero, sige. Push. But, TBT, I haven't taken water since 4 AM. So, ayun na nga. Kidding aside, let this be a reminder that reaching out to my purple people while downing matcha and good food is the root cost of the peace I'm working on, and a lot of times, failing at so badly. And by failing so badly, now, I see this in a delulu light. Just let it be. And forgive myself for "slipping up" baka on the road to less overthinking na 'to, tapos less avoidant na rin. Baka naman. Kaya this Q4. EMYYY. And that peace is expensive. More importantly, it's not something a lot can afford talaga. And that root cost is always debatable because it's not the same for everyone. For instance, not a lot of people like matcha. In fact, it's probably one of the flavor profiles that has a legit acquired taste which makes it very, very polarizing, and very, very curious. Perhaps, my new social experiment in line with combating my avoidant and overthinking being is this: Does this person/place have a legit matcha vibe? If yes, proceed. If not, disengage. EMMMY. Baka mas madali 'pag ganun noh? Abangan.
Matcha Bar Rating: 12/10 PS 1: Time to get a legit whisk and experiment like Dexter sa mga flavors na gusto ko. Syempre, basic ang strawberry pero 'yung sa kanila, may umami-ish for me lang 'yun a. There's vanilla, caramel, salted caramel, and cinnamon. Given na 'yun. I'd like to tinker with truffle, beer/gin, and wasabi. Hahahaha. Gusto mo 'yung may gin kahit allergic ako diyan 'di ba po? I think meron neto. 'Di ko pa lang na-deep dive, pero push. Isama mo na rin ang siomai pairing with al dente pancit canton and rice and soba and takoyaki. Tignan natin because alam mo naman. May sub cult talaga 'tong matcha na otherworldly and wala pa neto sa Tags and near Tags area. EMYYY. CHZ. Let's see! PS 2: Iwas-carpal tunnel syndrome gaming because the wrist is where the werpa is. LUL. Alam na this. The rizz. PS 3: May hope maka-score ng good seats sa 2ne1 in MNL. Tacca, LN. Hahahahaha. 'Pag 'to natupad, mas legit ko ng pipiliin ang vagooooong Filipinuzzz, bagong emmmyyy on the road to being the next HK ng SEA. 'Wag n'yo lang itaas ang presyo ng tubig at yelo dito, inyo na lahat. Mukhang sa Pinas din talaga ang bagsak ko, so, abangan!
