9 popular songs that are about queer people
1. I'm also a woman ฉันก็เป็นผู้หญิงคนหนึ่ง – Jen Jen Bunsungnoen (1990)
'I'm also a woman' is a song about a transgender woman's experience. How she is just like everybody with feelings and pride, living her life experiencing sorrow, happiness, or disappointment just like others. Why can't people understand that?
With this song, Jen Jen, the singer, came out to the public.
youtube
2. Prathueang ประเทือง – Tai Tanawut (1998)
'Prathueang,' which is the name of the song, is a name, specifically a guy's name. The song "Prathueang" tells a story of a man who fell for a beautiful woman but then found out that she was his old friend who he used to know as a boy named Prathueang. The lyrics and MV did not seem malicious toward trans women, but sadly it did get used as a means to bully many trans women growing up.
youtube
3. Trans Girls' Protest กระเทยประท้วง – Poyfai Malaiporn (2004)
The song 'Trans Girls' Protest' lyrics are about how the singer is proud of her identity and won't worry herself with other people's words, as her being herself is nothing wrong.
youtube
Unofficial translation of the song here
4. Miss Nancy นางสาวแนนซี่ – Mangpor Chonticha (2004)
The lyrics sing from the perspective of Miss Nanny's friend, who complains about her friend, who is clearly a girl, getting called a "mister" because of the law about prefixes (Person’s Name Act, B.E. 2505 (1962)).
youtube
5. Tom tom tom ทอม ท้อม ทอม – สามสาวซิลเวอร์โกลด์ (2004)
"Tom" is a borrowed word that came from "tomboy," used in Thailand to call a masc lesbian or trans man. The song is talking about Varunee, who, despite having a feminine name, acts masculine and looks very handsome, and so the singer finds him very attractive but also wants to ask him to change his name to be something else, and so she suggests a few guy names.
youtube
6. I didn't ask to be loved ไม่ได้ขอให้มารัก – Belle Nuntita (2012)
This song is an OST of the movie It Gets Better (2012), a movie about queer life that follows three main pairs. The singer also plays one of the main roles. The song's message is that it is alright if you are different and some people don't like you. Take good care of yourself. Live your life proudly.
youtube
7. I love someone's husband ผมรักผัวเขา – Dech Isara Rsiam (2014)
The 'I' in the name is a masculine pronoun. The song tells a story of a guy who fell for a 'short-haired girl' and thought she might give him a chance, but it turned out that the girl was already someone's 'husband.'
youtube
8. Ai Song ไอ้สอง – TaitosamitH Feat. Ben Chalatit (2022)
This song tells us about the life of Ai Song, a boy who was born into a traditional household who is actually not a boy.
youtube
English subtitle available.
9. สาวสอง/Ladyboy ( มีมี่ของอ้าย/My Mimi ) – Ble Patumrach ft. Tartar, Tongte (2024)
The song is about being in love with a trans woman, with most of the lyrics spent on saying how beautiful she is. The MV is made to celebrate the equal marriage law passing.
youtube

Chiang Mai Pride 2025: United in Diversity, Part I (Parade)
Tumblr media
"On May 25, 2025, Chiang Mai marked a new chapter in Thailand’s history by becoming the first province to officially launch Pride Month through the vibrant celebration of Chiangmai Pride 2025. Set against the historic backdrop of Tha Phae Gate, the event was more than just a gathering—it became a powerful symbol of hope, resilience, and social transformation. Chiang Mai Pride was not merely a parade or a cultural showcase of the LGBTQ+ community. It was a platform for voices long silenced, a unifying force for people of all gender identities and expressions, and a dignified call for equality. This landmark event was made possible through the collective efforts of government bodies, civil society, and the private sector, working together to turn the vision of inclusivity into reality." (LoveFoundation)
Here are some pictures from the part one of the event!

While in the monkhood, she was a respectable monk who never did something disgraceful to her monk status. Her lifestyle after she leaves monkhood may not be what one might imagine a monk would want, but as she did all those things after officially leaving, it is absolutely not an offense, and no one should treat it as such.

Tumblr media
Janjaem Suwannapheng
Born 2000
Janjaem is an amateur boxer who represented Thailand at the 2024 Summer Olympics and won a bronze medal. At the time, one of her opponents was Imane Khelif, who got accused of being transgender. Here are some brief explanations for some of our prompts for ThaiXPRIDE2025! (Some prompts, such as the Pride 2025 Themes, may have separate posts.)
Tumblr media
Meet & Greet
Some organizations or corporations will have celebrities in attendance for meet and greets or fan events for Pride. For example:
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Night Bazaars
Thai night bazaars or markets are usually open in the evening/after sunset and offer a great blend of street food, shopping, and local entertainment. Large night markets are found in Bangkok and Chiang Mai, but can certainly take place all across Thailand (AmazingThailand).
Tumblr media
For Pride, night markets can offer unique artistic performances, talks, and fashion. Not to mention a very cute date idea! You can read more about the Chiang Mai Night Bazaar here.
Tumblr media
Storytelling
Many of the Pride events across major Thai cities include panels in which queer Thais will share their experiences in the LGBT+ community. People share stories, educational information, resources, music and art, etc. The Siam Center has an array of talks and hosted events to spotlight diversity in Thailand's LGBT+ community.
Tumblr media
Another great example is Phuket's recent "Pride Talk." The event focused on transgender rights and lack of gender affirming care, sexual education and its access in Thailand's schools, and social reform. (ThePhuketNews)
Tumblr media
Waiting Rings & Getting Married during Pride Month
"In 2024, Bangkok Pride unveiled a powerful symbol that marked a cultural turning point in the fight for marriage equality in Thailand: the Waiting Ring. Introduced during the Bangkok Pride Festival 2024, the campaign transformed the act of waiting into activism, earning global attention for its bold, participatory design and clear message — love shouldn’t have to wait." (BrandinginAsia) (TheStandard)
Earlier this year, the first queer marriages took place in Thailand after the long wait for the Marriage Equality Act to pass and then become enshrined in law. Still, the rings hold significance for the long journey towards this historic moment in Thailand's queer history.
For our GIF makers, we compiled a short list of Thai queer shows that have a marriage/proposal scene.

Thailand is known for its thriving and lively LGBT+ community, but did you know that their first Pride Parade took place on Halloween in 1999?
First known as “The Bangkok Gay Festival,” the event was the first of its kind in Thailand. The event, first dubbed a party, was organized by Pakorn Pimton, “who said that after seeing Pride parades on his overseas travels, he wanted Thailand to have one, too” (AP News). The event started as a party, being that there were very few ways to spread news about the event. The news article reports that Pimton mostly relied on posters in gay bars and word of mouth, being that sponsors rejected the event.
Despite the obstacles and only obtaining a permit days before the event, the Bangkok Gay Festival was a success. Drag performers danced on floats, disco music blasted through the streets, and supporters cheered as the community came together. Several sources note that this first Thai LBGT+ event was unique from others due to the lack of political angle: “Pakorn Pimton called it a festival rather than a pride event because of the complete lack of a political angle” (Cambodia Daily).
instagram
Still, the event drew thousands of attendees, including many people from overseas: Hong Kong, Singapore, etc., who could not safely celebrate in their communities. The event also mostly consisted of gay men, but the parade did have some lesbian attendees, who noted that Thai lesbians would have their own parade the following weekend.
Richard Ammon writes, “The ultimate measure of success was not just the cheering and balloons and go-go dancers, but also the long-term impact it had with the media, the authorities and the public” (GlobalGayz).
And the long-term impact was made; the Festival continued to be held for several years. Years later, Ann Waaddao Chumaporn organized "Naruemit Pride 2022" which was held as the country's first official pride parade (BangkokPost). Since then, Waaddao has been an organizer of Bangkok Pride and activist of LGBT+ rights in Thailand, including the push towards marriage equality this past year. We highly recocmmend looking at Waadaao's photo-essays on Bangkok Pride 2022. Read through the above links to learn more about how Pride festivities started in Thailand, and how they’ve evolved since!
