Ambiguous Dating Activity

Summary: Season 6, post Kroner, Mulder and Scully go to the movies but they’re dorks about the whole thing. This is some long form semi-fluff.
Tagging @today-in-fic
Fitted sheets were invented by Satan, Scully mused as she fought valiantly with her bedding trying to get it adjusted just right. Dressed in sweats and a messy ponytail she looked like the diametric opposite of her work persona. Between work and paranormal excursions with Mulder, Scully had fallen decidedly behind on her life chores. So, unless she wanted to wear her bathing suit as underwear, she needed to do laundry. Which is how she ended up changing her bedding on a Friday night instead of eating takeout at Mulder’s. All in all there was actually something dissatisfying about the amount of progress she’d already made. A part of her kept expecting Mulder to knock on her door or call and drag her away on a case, so the fact that there’d been radio silence since they left the office was disconcerting. It had been a few weeks since their tryst in Kroner, and although neither had acknowledged it, she couldn’t stop herself from thinking about the way his hands felt on her body and the intensity of kissing him.
Scully tried to shake off her disappointment, struggling to change the comforter cover, almost knocking herself off balance in an attempt to get the insert to match up. The ringing of her home phone added urgency to the struggle, finishing off her battle with the comforter she reached the phone on the 6th ring with a breathy hello. “Hey Scully it’s me-“ “Hey ‘Me’.” The sound of Scully panting as she answered the phone threw an already nervous Mulder off his game. “Very funny. Did I catch you at a bad time?” “No, I was just wrestling with my comforter.” Scully continued to change her pillow cases, happy that the long established pattern of late night calls from Mulder had not been retired as she had feared. “Did you win?” “It put up a valiant fight but I got the bed made so I feel victorious.” “Good to hear you didn’t have to pull out your firearm to get your sheets changed” “I’ll be sure to announce I’m armed next time.” With a chuckle and a prolonged pause they both felt an unfamiliar awkwardness emerge between them before Mulder continued. “So, I’m actually calling because I wanted to know if you’re free tomorrow night -“ “Mulder, I already told you I’m not working this weekend.” “No, that’s not it! I just saw that Roman Holiday is playing at the Landmark-” “I love that movie-” Scully interjected. “I remembered. I could get us some tickets if you want to go?” “Sure, what time?” “8:15, let’s get dinner at that new place by G street you wanted to try.” Mulder held his breath waiting for her response. “Are you sure, that place is fancy, no plastic forks?” “I’m sure smart ass, I’ll pick you up at 6.” “I can just meet you-“ “No, parking is a pain by the Landmark, I’ll just pick you up at 6.” There was an anxiousness to Mulder’s responses that put Scully on alert, something about this invitation didn’t sound as casual as he wanted to make it seem. “Alright, what’s the catch?” “Excuse me?” “Is the theater haunted? Am I going to get there only to discover we’re investigating some kook who saw a swamp monster?” Mulder couldn’t help but chuckle at Scully’s trademark skepticism, of course she would question a movie invitation. “No catch Scully. Just you, me and Audrey Hepburn riding around Italy on a Vespa.” “Sounds fun then” Scully said with a smile Mulder could feel over the phone. Before he could hang up on her Scully called out his name. “Mulder, if this does turn out to be a ghost hunting trip you will pay.” Shaking his head Mulder hung up and wondered if he was going to be trying to convince Scully of his intentions for the rest of his life. The Christmas Ghost hunting trip was definitely ill advised and now she triple checked his plans. Scully’s Saturday passed without much fanfare, distracted by errands and cleaning her thoughts barely turned to her plans for the evening. If she was honest with herself she’d admit that she was a bit happier than usual, humming tunelessly as she picked up her dry cleaning and put groceries away. By 4pm her thoughts turned towards her plans with Mulder and she remembered the way his normally confident tone was layered with uncertainty and nervousness. This anxious vulnerability was a side of him she’d rarely seen, and she wondered if what she’d assumed was a regular outing between them was actually a date. Would Mulder actually go to the trouble of planning a date without making his intentions clear or using any words which could clarify it? Mulder was so direct in other areas of his life, why would he be so cagey when it came to relationships? Scully wasn’t sure but it made her question her entire outfit choice for the evening. In case this was just a plutonic outing, Scully didn’t want look like she tried too hard but also wanted to convey the message that she was open to more. Torn between casual jeans versus a provocative dress, Scully decided to split the difference with a skirt and a low cut blouse. The outfit said a little more than friends, a little less than lovers. Mulder’s knock on the door filled her stomach with butterflies as she took a minute to check the loose curls she made in her hair before answering with a smile. As she opened the door to Mulder with a warm familiar greeting suddenly it was as if all the air was sucked out of the room and Mulder froze in place. Feeling self-conscious Scully looked down to check if she had horribly misjudged her outfit or spilled something, confused by Mulder’s exaggerated reaction. Seeing her concern Mulder quickly snapped back to earth and clarified “no, Scully you look fine. Better than fine, amazing actually. Sorry you just caught me off guard when you answered so quickly, it just threw me off.” With an embarrassed smile Scully invited Mulder in while she grabbed her bag and coat. She felt foolish for hyping this up in her head. Obviously she was reading too much into this night and she needed to take a step back. That was easier said than done with Mulder looking decidedly sexy in his dark jeans, soft cashmere sweater and leather jacket. “Ready to go?” Scully asked as she brushed past Mulder out the front door, amused by the uncharacteristic way he seemed to fall over his feet as he tried to follow after her.
The drive to the restaurant was comfortable and filled with their usual banter. Something about being in a car together seemed to trigger some sort of muscle memory response and the earlier nervousness had melted away. In fact, the two were lost in the world of their own conversation; they barely noticed the activity of dinner had occurred until the waiter asked if they’d like dessert. Scully turned down the offer like an automatic response, but Mulder ordered their flourless chocolate torte which earned a raised eyebrow from Scully. “You’re not usually a dessert person Mulder,” Scully commented with mock surprise. “It's for science, I need to know what a cake without flour tastes like.” The chocolate cake looked decadent and Scully was secretly thrilled the waiter brought out two spoons. Encouraging her to take a spoonful of cake, Mulder held up his and eyed it suspiciously. “Alright Scully, are you ready to find out what flourless chocolate cake tastes like?” With an amused shake of her head Scully and Mulder tried the chocolate cake together, each watching for the other's reaction. The rich chocolate taste was heavenly and both let out a moan of pleasure and a nod of agreement that it was delicious. “Mulder this cake is incredible,” Scully grabbed another spoonful and made an exaggerated show of enjoyment that Mulder loved. “Looks like flour was holding cake back this whole time. This is amazing!” Mulder mimicked Scully’s previous display of enjoyment as he took another bite, eliciting a hearty laugh from Scully that seemed to imbue the entire room with warmth. Mulder marveled at this rare sight, and gave her a smile filled with adoration. Scully caught Mulder’s intense gaze, with unadulterated affection. Raising her hand to his face with a giggle, she wiped the corner of his mouth to remove the smudge of chocolate there. Never losing eye contact Mulder grabbed her wrist and kissed her thumb. Scully felt her cheeks blush red as she removed her hand from his face while Mulder gave a chuckle. “What? I don’t want to waste any cake.” Mulder’s fake innocent act was met with a genuine laugh from Scully as he gently bumped her shoulder with his, earning him a playful shove. The bill came and Mulder promptly placed his credit card down immediately, waving off Scully’s offer to split it. The walk to the theater was filled with a comfortable silence, somewhere along the way Scully had found her hand in Mulder’s but she decided not to question it. While sharing a meal with Mulder was a fairly common occurrence in Scully’s life, it had been quite awhile since she’d actually gone on a date with anyone. Even though she wasn’t sure if this outing actually constituted a date, she had to admit it was one of the best dates she’d ever been on. Scully often took for granted just how companionable her relationship with Mulder actually was. Once she had feared that work was the only tethered which tied them together, now she could see that it was merely one facet of an intricate tapestry. “What are you thinking about?” Mulder’s question broke the silent stroll and Scully looked up to see his soft gaze. “Just that I like spending time with you outside of work and life threatening situations.” Mulder smiled and was a little surprised by her honesty. “I like spending time with you too, but there’s no one I’d rather be with at work or in life threatening situations.” “Well the night is still young, maybe we can uncover a nefarious conspiracy at the concession stand.” Mulder guided Scully confidently to their seats, balancing his soda and their shared popcorn as they prepared to watch the show. The air temperature in the theater struck Scully as colder than normal and she found herself unconsciously shivering. “Are you cold Scully?” “Yeah and I left my jacket in the car.” “I could go and get it?” “Don’t be silly Mulder you’ll miss the start of the movie-“ “I have an idea, hold this.” Mulder handed Scully their popcorn, moved his drink from their shared arm rest and lifted the armrest up. “How did you do that?” “The armrests come up in some of these seats, so we got lucky. Come here, airplane style.” Scully smiled, countless flights across America Mulder had made himself her body pillow, however this time he had his arm around her. With his left hand, Mulder reached for the popcorn on Scully’s lap. “Warmer?” “Much.” “Good. The only problem with this position is you’re going to have to feed me red vines.” With a giggle Scully roughly put a red vine in his mouth, making sure to poke his face and gently hit him with the candy a few times for good measure. “Gee, thanks Scully-“ Mulder said while managing to slap her forehead with his red vine, earning him a slap and an exaggerated shush from Scully as the lights dimmed in the theater. As the movie played, Scully relaxed into her familiar place in Mulder’s arms; she wondered if perhaps they were too comfortable with each other to ever progress their relationship to the next level. While anyone looking on might judge their position as being intimate, it was nothing outside the realms of their everyday close relationship. The pretense that they were just cuddling for warmth was flimsy, especially given Mulder could have given her his jacket. Still, she made no attempts to sit back in her own chair, enjoying the warmth of his arms and the feel of his chest. Perhaps she was looking at things the wrong way, their relationship had grown well beyond the bounds of a normal friendship years ago. The intimacy and closeness she shared with Mulder far exceeded most of her sexual relationships so defining it as strictly plutonic was inadequate and diminished what they really had. Scully looked up at Mulder as he watched the movie, fully transfixed by the drama on screen. He unconsciously squeezed her tighter as the lovers experienced angst, making brief eye contact with her for reassurance. Scully’s heart clenched in her chest at this innocuous gesture, the perfect example of Mulder’s sweetness and romantic heart. For so long she had fought her desires to start any sort of relationship with Mulder, deciding his obsessive workaholism would always be an issue. Scully had been down that road with her ex, Jack Willis, and didn’t want to have to fight for a place in someone’s life. However, somewhere along the road in their five years of partnership Mulder had proven to be more than capable of putting her first. He had definitely come a long way from the obsessive cocksure investigator she met years ago. She remembered how despondent he’d been when the X files had been shut down the first time, and while he was restless to reclaim his quest, these past few months he seemed to be trying to find a way to function without them. Her train of thought was interrupted by the lights coming up in the theater and the other movie goers leaving their seats. Scully attempted to sit up and move away from her human body pillow, but Mulder’s arms wrapped around her tighter and pulling her closer to him, making her laugh. “Don’t get up Scully, I was so comfy.” Mulder’s whiny plea earned him a few extra seconds of Scully time until she started to squirm again. “Come on Mulder, they’re going to kick us out, plus I’ve gotta pee.” “Fine-“ Mulder released Scully with a resigned sigh, beaming as she took his hand and led him out of the theater. Mulder discarded the empty popcorn and soda as they left the theater heading straight into the men's room, while Scully took her place in the long line for the women’s restroom. As she waited it occurred to her that while she was definitely open to progressing her relationship with Mulder she still had no real clarity whether this was actually a date or not. What was the protocol for concluding ambiguous dates, does she catch a cab home or invite him up? As Scully left the bathroom she’d made up her mind to let Mulder take the lead and just be open to whatever happened at the end of the night. That was until she spotted Mulder laughing with an attractive brunette, who was obviously giving him her number. The brunette had an alternative edge about her, with multiple piercings in her ear and a nose ring. Her tight black T-shirt showed off her long slender frame, complimenting her fitted black jeans. Scully felt like an idiot at having enjoyed herself tonight only to discover that the notion this was a date was just in her head. It was clear that Kroner hadn’t meant anything to Mulder and their relationship was not meant to progress out of their current limbo. Scully stopped herself from going down a shame spiral, deciding that whether or not they were on a date it was still pretty rude for Mulder to try picking up other women while she was in the bathroom. Screw him she thought, and Scully marched over to Mulder with her head held high, ready to cockblock with the best of them. The steam was knocked out of her sails the moment she approached Mulder, thrown off by his enthusiasm when he saw her. “Scully, come meet Aubrey! She does some consulting with the Gunmen.” A spark of recognition flashed in Aubrey’s soft brown eyes as she grabbed Scully’s hand. “So this is the famous Dana Scully. Mulder doesn’t shut up about you, I’ve appointed him head of your fan club.” Scully’s eyebrow raised pointedly questioning Mulder. “It’s more of a figurehead position, I share the administrative duties with Frohike.” Mulder casually draped his arm around Scully, pulling her to his side in an affectionate way that sent a clear message that they were together to any onlookers. The gesture was most likely unconscious but she immediately found herself relaxing into him and letting her guard down to give Aubrey a chance. “Scully, Aubrey plays in a jazz band and was kind enough to offer us tickets for her show at Stone Tower winery.” “I’ve always wanted to check out that place. What instrument do you play?” “Alto sax, the winery is really beautiful, it’s a fun venue. The place is much too nice for most of my friends, it’d be nice to get some friendly faces in the audience.” ”Oh, so we’d be like your plants. Clap along and laugh at your jokes?”
”Exactly!” Aubrey said with a laugh. “You’re in trouble Aubrey, Scully never laughs at my jokes.” “Maybe they’re just not that funny Mulder?” And with that Scully and Aubrey both chuckled at Mulder’s expense. Scully caught Aubrey’s genuine smile and noticed that her eyeline was focused on her cleavage, it was clear that this woman had no interest in Mulder.
“So musician and hacker, that's a weird mix,” Scully said in an attempt to keep the conversation moving. Leaning in to brush an errant curl behind Scully’s ear, Aubrey invaded her space with a flirtatious smile that was not missed by Mulder. “Come on Dana, band geek and computer geek really aren’t that much of a stretch.” Taken back a little by Aubrey’s blatant flirting, Scully felt Mulder’s grip around her tighten and she fumbled a little in her response. “I guess not, I was the science nerd and fellow band geek.” Aubrey and Scully share a knowing smile. “So what kind of geek were you Mulder?” Aubrey asks, still not taking her eyes off Scully. “Speak for yourself, I was cool in high school. I still am!” Scully and Aubrey laugh at Mulder’s petulant reply. Moving out of his arms, Scully gives a loud conspiratorial whisper to Aubrey. “He was a Trekkie.” “Of course he was.” The girls laugh together leaving Mulder left out of the fun. Grabbing his dangling arm Scully pulled it around her once again, delighting Mulder with this action. Aubrey took this as a not too subtle hint that Scully wasn’t interested, but took a moment to appreciate how the two looked together.
“You know, you guys look pretty cute together. Maybe it’s the height difference, but you compliment each other well.”
“We definitely do,” Mulder replied looking down at Scully.
Promising to call about the tickets, Aubrey took off in the opposite direction as Mulder and Scully walked to the car. “Aubrey seems cool-” Mulder smiled at Scully’s assessment, loosely swinging their hands while walking back to the car. “Yeah, since she broke up with her girlfriend she’s been hanging out with the Gunmen more lately so she’s up to date with the Mulder mocking policy.” “I wouldn’t call it a policy so much as a beloved tradition.” Mulder gave her a big smile as he opened the car door for her, enjoying every minute of their banter. The trip to her apartment seem to happen on autopilot, and Scully found herself in the kitchen while Mulder hovered. “Do you want tea or decaf?” Scully asked as she motioned to put her kettle on. “No, that’s fine I’m going to get out of your hair-“ “Oh, well thank you so much for a wonderful night.” “Any time.” As Mulder moved towards her door he suddenly stopped as if remembering something. Scully watched him curiously and wonder if he’s trying to work up an excuse to kiss her goodnight or if he was about to tell her about a new species of bigfoot found in Georgetown. Pulling a crumpled box of Red Vines from his jacket pocket Mulder enthusiastically hands them to Scully. “Here, you can keep the leftover red vines.” Before she can say anything, Mulder placed a piece of red licorice her mouth and put the rest of the packet on the side table. Turning to leave again, he stopped and used his mouth to bite off the end of her red vine with a growl, mimicking a dog. Scully was momentarily stunned by this but managed to call out to him to wait before he reached the door. Taking the candy out of her mouth she gathered her courage and asked “Mulder, was this a date?” Mulder stilled himself, “do you want it to be a date?” “Yes.” “Then it was a date.” Mulder’s smile was sheepish as he looks down at Scully, frozen in place by the door. With the dating ambiguity clarified, Scully went up on her tippy toes and pulled Mulder’s head down for a kiss. The kiss was warm and playful, they both tasted like red licorice and there was something comforting about that. As Mulder went to pull away Scully’s tongue entered his mouth and the innocent goodnight kiss turned into a frantic teenage make out session. Ravenous for each other and Scully wrapped her arms around Mulder’s neck while he lifted her body, her legs wrapping around him as he pressed her against the door. Moaning her name as he kissed her, Mulder's hand roughly palmed Scully’s breast over her shirt while grinding hard against her. Scully’s mind had lost all capacity for reason and her thoughts became consumed with how quickly she could get him inside of her. Her mouth hungrily sucked on his jugular as her hands reached to undo his pants. This action snapped Mulder back to reality and he tenderly pulled away from her and patted her hand, signaling to stop. Gently he placed Scully back on the ground, straightening out her shirt and stroking her cheek with his hand, giving her an intense stare as they both gained control over their breathing. Scully’s cheeks began to color and she demurely looked down towards her feet, starting to feel embarrassed about their juvenile display. Tilting her chin up to face him Mulder explained “I just think we should take things a little slower.” “That makes sense.” The disappointment in Scully’s voice almost breaks Mulder’s resolve but he’s determined to make her understand that this is more than just sex. Touching his forehead to hers they seem to regain their equilibrium. “Scully, what we’re doing is too important to rush-“ “I know.” “Besides, I don’t put out on the first date.” With a gentle chaste kiss, Mulder heaved a heavy sigh. “Good night Scully, I’ll call you later.” As the door closed and their date concluded Scully had to admit that she was relatively happy with how this night turned out. Placing her cordless phone on her nightstand, she mused that soon enough Mulder might not have to call her before bed. His words played on a loop in her mind, giving her hope that they finally on the same page, and with any luck she wasn’t going to have to wait too much longer.

Radio Abel, Season Six
Part 6 of 6
Parts 5 and 6 take place after S6M24, "Mother's Little Helper"
PHIL CHEESEMAN: Hello, citizens. If you've just tuned in, we're getting ready for our first -
ZOE CRICK: Slightly delayed.
PHIL CHEESEMAN: - our first slightly delayed edition of Recipes on the Run, the cooking show for the post-apocalyptic world.
ZOE CRICK: We've been collecting recipes from our listeners and from our favorite Abel residents. Well, the ones who don't give everyone food poisoning when it's their turn to make the goulash. I'm looking at you, Maxine Myers.
PHIL CHEESEMAN: We won't be telling you to julienne the asparagus or add in a drop or two of truffle oil because we know you've got as much chance of finding a bottle of truffle oil these days as you've got of bumping into Britney Spears, and she went zom so long ago they think she might have been patient zero for the entire continental United States.
ZOE CRICK: [laughs] No, we'll be looking at the everyday, mundane ingredients every cook needs.
PHIL CHEESEMAN: Well, not actually those, because you can't find them on the shelves anymore. All the normal stuff's been taken. Packets of nuts, Campbell's cream of mushroom soup. Those are as rare as hen's teeth these days.
ZOE CRICK: I heard the last tin of baked beans in the entire country got eaten last Wednesday somewhere in Warwickshire. Whoever you were, I hope you enjoyed them.
PHIL CHEESEMAN: So today we've got a recipe for you using an ingredient you can still find on the shelves, a lot.
ZOE CRICK: Yes. We'll be giving your our recipe for tinned swede with bacon-flavored instant baby formula sauce. Stay tuned!
ZOE CRICK: Okay, the first step is to take the package of bacon-flavored instant baby formula, and then wonder why the hell anyone would want bacon-flavored instant baby formula. Seriously! The apocalypse didn't happen a day too soon if you ask me.
PHIL CHEESEMAN: Next, you need to get the swedes open. It's a little-known fact that tinned swedes are the national dish of -
[door opens]
AMELIA SPENS: Morning, everyone.
ZOE CRICK: Amelia? We're right in the middle of a broadcast.
AMELIA SPENS: Yes, yes, I do follow the schedule of Fort Canton broadcasts, thank you. And I could hardly fail to notice that you kicked me out of bed so early this morning.
PHIL CHEESEMAN: Um...
AMELIA SPENS: You can lose that tone, Philip, unless you also want to lose your weekly ration of... whatever it is that you like. I'll find something.
ZOE CRICK: Amelia, what are you doing here?
AMELIA SPENS: Don't mind me. Just carry on with whatever you were doing.
PHIL CHEESEMAN: Okay. Yeah. So tinned swedes and...
ZOE CRICK: Baby formula?
PHIL CHEESEMAN: Yeah. I, um... [sighs] It's no good. I can't do it while she's staring at me like that.
AMELIA SPENS: If it helps, I'm staring at you, but I'm thinking about other things.
ZOE CRICK: What might help is if you explain exactly what you're doing in our radio shack. If it's not too much trouble.
AMELIA SPENS: Isn't it about time you played a song? No, no, don't worry. I'll just put one on for you. Here we go.
ZOE CRICK: Right. Listeners, apparently Amelia's here because she has an announcement to make. Apparently, Amelia doesn't believe in warning people first.
AMELIA SPENS: You generally seem to like it when I surprise you, darling.
PHIL CHEESEMAN: Please stop.
ZOE CRICK: Yes, please do. You're upsetting Phil, and I like him more than I like you.
AMELIA SPENS: [laughs] Yes, imagine if you started to like me. Doesn't bear thinking about. Anyway, top tip for listeners: over the years, I've found it's much better not to announce your arrival, if possible. It's less likely people will try to stop you doing what you want.
PHIL CHEESEMAN: We still could.
AMELIA SPENS: People find it a lot harder to say no to someone's face. It's a terribly British thing. They find it embarrassing.
PHIL CHEESEMAN: [sighs] Fine. You can make your announcement.
AMELIA SPENS: There you are, you see? You know you shouldn't let me have my way, but you are because it would be too embarrassing to confront me with quite how brazen I've been. It's very interesting, anthropologically speaking. Perhaps we could have someone start a show on this sort of thing. I tell you what, let's add a moment of suspense. Play a song.
ZOE CRICK: Right. And now you're going to tell us why you're here, or I'm going to take you by the scruff of the neck and physically throw you out.
AMELIA SPENS: I thought you didn't want us to do this in front of Phil. Have it your way. The truth is, I'm on a bit of a recruitment drive.
PHIL CHEESEMAN: What for? Your crack team of... of... of really irritating... people?
AMELIA SPENS: No. For Fort Canton. I'm trying to sort out some of the problems I've inherited. Under the previous mismanagement – honestly, it really was quite egregious - the population rather fell away, so I'm looking to expand.
PHIL CHEESEMAN: Right. [sighs] And I suppose coming on our show does actually make sense.
AMELIA SPENS: I'm certainly not doing it for my health.
ZOE CRICK: And who exactly are you hoping to recruit?
AMELIA SPENS: Oh, you know. A few good people from around the country. I say good. That may not be the right word. Ambitious? Hard-working?
ZOE CRICK: Conniving? Back-stabbing?
AMELIA SPENS: I don't like to pre-judge. I've always been a woman who takes people as they come. Luckily for you.
PHIL CHEESEMAN: And maybe after this next song, you can tell us why anyone would want to work with the most untrustworthy woman in the country.
ZOE CRICK: Funnily enough, that song always makes me think of you, Amelia.
AMELIA SPENS: I'm not entirely sure you mean that as a compliment.
ZOE CRICK: Good.
PHIL CHEESEMAN: Do you two actually even like each other at all?
[speaking simultaneously]
ZOE CRICK: No.
AMELIA SPENS: Don't be ridiculous.
[speaking in turn]
PHIL CHEESEMAN: Right. Uh, so what are the selling points of the New Canton -
AMELIA SPENS: Fort Canton.
PHIL CHEESEMAN: It'll always be New Canton to me.
AMELIA SPENS: But that's precisely the problem. Too many people in Fort Canton and elsewhere have been living in the past. The old world is gone for good. People need to wave it goodbye and move on. And that's what I plan to be doing, and what I'm looking for people to help me achieve. To build a brighter tomorrow on the ruins of yesterday.
ZOE CRICK: You make it sound so noble, which is ironic since you're the most cynical woman in England.
AMELIA SPENS: Whereas you're always such an idealist, of course.
ZOE CRICK: I always forget how loathsome you are
AMELIA SPENS: I always forget how judgemental you are. You're a terrible hypocrite!
ZOE CRICK: And you're a monster.
AMELIA SPENS: I've got half an hour to spare right now.
ZOE CRICK: Me, too. Phil, can you mind the fort?
PHIL CHEESEMAN: What? You're not going to - you just called her a monster!
ZOE CRICK: Needs must. Back soon. Bye!
[door opens and shuts]
PHIL CHEESEMAN: Zo! [sighs] Right. Um. They've gone. They've gone to... mm. Right. Um, uh, here's a little number to get them in the mood! Not that they seem to need it. At all!
BERNARD PRIOR: This is Bernard Prior on Fort Canton Today, keeping it really, really real! Even more real than – oh, I can't get away with that. This is Bernard Prior on Fort Canton Today, with news, views, and how do you do's? Oh, maybe that's too silly? This is Bernie P. on Fort Canton Today, in your ears despite my years! No, that's too weird. This is Bernard Prior on Fort Canton Today with... oh, you know, the usual stuff.
PHIL CHEESEMAN: Hello, citizens. This is Radio New Hope, bringing you all the news from all around the country.
ZOE CRICK: First up, there's been some exciting developments in Kidderminster.
PHIL CHEESEMAN: Have there?
ZOE CRICK: No, not really. I just like saying Kidderminster. Although apparently, they have opened a zombie petting zoo there.
PHIL CHEESEMAN: They haven't.
ZOE CRICK: No, they have. The zombies are declawed and defanged, obviously. And chained up. I think they might also have had their salivary glands and voiceboxes removed.
PHIL CHEESEMAN: But why?
ZOE CRICK: So kids can see them up close and realize they aren't that frightening.
PHIL CHEESEMAN: But... they are frightening! Kids ought to be frightened of them! Teaching your kids that zombies are harmless is a terrible idea.
ZOE CRICK: Well, that's Kidderminster for you. We'll be back with the latest from London right after this.
PHIL CHEESEMAN: There's been an announcement on Rofflenet from the London council of boroughs. Uh, after weeks of bitter conflict, the Democratic Republic of the Isle of Dogs has agreed to become a London borough. However, it continues to refuse to sign up to the Camden Human Rights Accords and will continue using flogging and the stocks as its primary methods of social control. And in other national news, the Lake District has announced it's opening itself up to tourism again!
ZOE CRICK: Good luck with that one, guys. I hear you've got a thousand zombies per square mile up there.
PHIL CHEESEMAN: Yeah, but there's a cure now. People actually could go. Tourism could be a thing again.
ZOE CRICK: Yeah. I suppose they could go without dying. On the other hand, is Scafell Pike quite as scenic when it's covered peak to foot in shambling decayed corpses?
PHIL CHEESEMAN: Good point. In other news, Cornwall's barred all visitors whose names begin with W, and experts predict that Liverpool should stop burning sometime in the middle of next year.
ZOE CRICK: We'll be back with something a little more heartwarming right after this.
PHIL CHEESEMAN: This is a story about kittens, isn't it?
ZOE CRICK: It's not a story about kittens.
PHIL CHEESEMAN: Is it a story about cats?
ZOE CRICK: Nope, definitely not.
PHIL CHEESEMAN: And by cats, I mean all cats. Lions. Tigers. Cheetahs. The works. Oh, and meerkats, as well.
ZOE CRICK: Meerkats aren't even cats.
PHIL CHEESEMAN: So this is a story about meerkats.
ZOE CRICK: It's not about meerkats, either.
PHIL CHEESEMAN: But it's definitely about animals, and not human beings, isn't it? Because you never describe a story about human beings as heartwarming.
ZOE CRICK: It may be a story about baby bats.
PHIL CHEESEMAN: Baby bats?
ZOE CRICK: Yes.
PHIL CHEESEMAN: Do bats even have babies?
ZOE CRICK: Yes, obviously. What do you think they do, reproduce by cloning themselves in little bat labs?
PHIL CHEESEMAN: I thought they laid eggs.
ZOE CRICK: They're mammals.
PHIL CHEESEMAN: Really? I thought they were lizards.
ZOE CRICK: Lizards? At least if you'd said birds, it would make some sort of sense. I've... [sighs] Forgotten what I was going to say now.
PHIL CHEESEMAN: You can't remember the heartwarming story about bats?
ZOE CRICK: You distracted me. Play a song, and maybe it'll come back to me.
ZOE CRICK: What's your least favorite word?
PHIL CHEESEMAN: I thought you were going to tell us a story about bats.
ZOE CRICK: I've forgotten it. It was something to do with people feeding tiny bats from tiny bottles and then wrapping them up in tiny blankets.
PHIL CHEESEMAN: I think that might just have been a dream you had.
ZOE CRICK: Anyway, what's your least favorite word?
PHIL CHEESEMAN: Embourgeoisement.
ZOE CRICK: I've literally no idea what you just said.
PHIL CHEESEMAN: Embourgeoisement. It's the process by which working class people join the middle class and assume its values. My sociology professor used to say it all the time.
ZOE CRICK: Of course she did. And of course you had a sociology professor.
PHIL CHEESEMAN: I don't know why, but it used to really irritate me. She always used to say it in this incredibly smug way, like she personally invented it. And she used to do it in this stupid fake French accent. Got on my nerves so much, I had to stop going to the lectures eventually.
ZOE CRICK: Please tell me you failed the end of year exam because of how much the word embourgeoisement irritated you.
PHIL CHEESEMAN: I did, actually. Had to retake it the next year when I had a different lecturer. He used to talk about the Thatcherite hegemonic project a lot, which was only about 29% as irritating. Anyway, what's your least favorite word?
ZOE CRICK: Oh, I was going to say gusset, but I can't say it now. It'll make me sound like a pleb.
BERNARD PRIOR: Welcome to Fort Canton Today! And now on the program, my occasional cohost and full-time glorious leader, Amelia Spens, is here to discuss issues of the day.
AMELIA SPENS: Hello Bernard, listeners. Lovely to be here. Thanks for having me on the airwaves.
BERNARD PRIOR: Oh, don't mention it. You did invite yourself, after all.
AMELIA SPENS: True. Now, I am delighted to let you know that we have a new trade pact with the Hugger-Muggers, The Wombles, and Archway 12, which means a new supply of tinned food, including spam, kidney beans, and dolphin-friendly tuna. All reasonably priced, but we do expect to sell out today, so run along, chop chop.
BERNARD PRIOR: Oh, that is jolly. It's nice to have some good news for once. And I do love a tuna sandwich. Fresh wholemeal, slice of cucumber, sprinkle of salt. The perfect teatime treat.
AMELIA SPENS: I'll have one sent over. Now -
BERNARD PRIOR: I was just wondering, though. Any news on a trade deal with Chalk Valley?
AMELIA SPENS: Oh, good grief. Every time. I promised you a tuna sandwich!
BERNARD PRIOR: It's hardly the same. One set of papers. One person. After all I've done? You promised you'd look into it.
AMELIA SPENS: And I have, but it's complicated! They don't issue travel papers without coercion. Word is they are just as worried about people leaving as they are about people getting in. [sighs] I can do it, but I'd need intel on Chalk Valley's leader, Big Nigel.
BERNARD PRIOR: Surely you have some. It's you.
AMELIA SPENS: Bernard -
BERNARD PRIOR: I know that face. You do!
AMELIA SPENS: Maybe I do, but I need to use it for the correct -
BERNARD PRIOR: Millie, I sheltered you from the jigsaw mob.
AMELIA SPENS: I don't think that was as serious as people made out.
BERNARD PRIOR: Oh, come on. What would Elle Woods do?
AMELIA SPENS: Play a tune. I need to think.
BERNARD PRIOR: Well? Don't keep old Bernard on tenterhooks. Have a heart, Miss Spens.
AMELIA SPENS: Okay, fine. I have a little information that Big Nigel was part of the Psychoanalysts Enclave's LARPing group.
BERNARD PRIOR: [sighs] Um... wait. What?
BERNARD PRIOR: LARPing, eh? Is that compromising?
AMELIA SPENS: Not on its own, but as you know, Chalk Valley has a strict isolationist policy.
BERNARD PRIOR: Oh, I do know.
AMELIA SPENS: The Psychoanalysts LARP takes place outside the Chalk Valley boundaries. If he's still playing -
BERNARD PRIOR: He's sneaking out! Just like all the citizens of Chalk Valley are banned from doing.
AMELIA SPENS: Quite.
BERNARD PRIOR: Ahoy-hoy to thee, fair listeners. How utterly magnificent it is to have you here. The weather is quite pleasing, isn't it? And I have a tuna sandwich, which is delicious. You would think, sweet listeners, would you not, that old Bernie would be in heaven. What with my sandwich, the perfect amount of fine sea salt, delicious Jaffa Cakes for afters, and of course, all the tea I could drink. But the fact is, as many a man before me has discovered, such riches are not but ash without someone delightful to share them with.
BERNARD PRIOR: One question, Millie. What on earth is LARPing?
AMELIA SPENS: It's essentially running around in a wood pretending to be an elf.
BERNARD PRIOR: Gosh, how rum. Do people do that on purpose?
AMELIA SPENS: Of course. It's not the kind of thing that happens accidentally. Full elf costumes, usually, too.
BERNARD PRIOR: Well really, I'm quite taken aback. Truly there are more things in heaven and earth than are dreamt of in my political philosophy radio show.
AMELIA SPENS: It's an entertainment show, but yes. Quite.
AMELIA SPENS: So here we have it, B. A draft agreement that states that in return for not dropping leaflets all over Chalk Valley telling residents about Big Nigel's breaking of state lines, Chalk Valley will begin the process of allowing some free movement between itself and the Common Alliance of Independent Territories. That's what we're calling it now.
BERNARD PRIOR: Not the Free State Coalition? I liked that. Rather punchy.
AMELIA SPENS: No, no. Too punchy. Sigrid didn't like us calling ourselves free states. Implies things about the other side of the wall she didn't appreciate.
BERNARD PRIOR: Like them not being free at all?
AMELIA SPENS: Quite.
BERNARD PRIOR: So what? What can she do about it?
AMELIA SPENS: Oh, Bernie. Sigrid has a lot of weapons. Do you want a drone whizzing in here and flying up your trouser leg?
BERNARD PRIOR: She's capable of that?
AMELIA SPENS: She's capable of anything, B. Anything.
ZOE CRICK: So it's a lovely bright sunny morning. The birds are singing, the clouds are as fluffy as cotton wool, and Phil bloody Cheeseman is nowhere to be seen. Yes, before you ask, I've tried his room. Either he's not there or he's not answering the door. You know what I think? I think he went on an unauthorized date last night. I had a special schedule all lined up for him, hand-picked by me.
I'd even warned them about his excessive love of prog rock. I put a lot of work into it, and admittedly, the first four didn't go brilliantly, but I was refining my parameters. Anyway, we'll see how well the date he picked himself went, won't we? Hopefully after this song when he drags his ass in here.
ZOE CRICK: Nope. Still no sign of him. [sighs] I'm beginning to think the date actually went well, which is good. I mean, it's definitely good. But also, who is this person? And where did he find her? I've literally made a list of every single eligible person of any relevant sexual or romantic orientation in Abel and the seven surrounding statelets. Okay, that's not true. But it's not not true.
How could Phil possibly have found someone to date without my input? He's barely capable of deciding which socks to wear in the morning without asking me. I'm not even joking! He comes in here barefoot with three or four pairs and asks me to choose. Anyway, Cheeseman, this one's for you! Wherever the hell you are.
ZOE CRICK: Well, this is getting ridiculous. I suppose I'll just have to do Recipes on the Run on my own. At least we've had a really good one sent in by a reader involving quail's eggs and - [door opens] Phil. And what kind of time do you call this?
PHIL CHEESEMAN: Sorry, Zoe. Sorry, citizens. Sorry, world!
ZOE CRICK: [laughs] Date went well, then?
PHIL CHEESEMAN: Oh my God! Zo! It's amazing!
ZOE CRICK: Oh, amazing, was it? This mystery date with this mystery woman?
PHIL CHEESEMAN: Yeah. Um... I'm sorry I didn't tell you about it, only uh, I wasn't sure how it was going to go and I didn't want to jinx it.
ZOE CRICK: You thought telling me about it might jinx it? Hm, charming.
PHIL CHEESEMAN: No, not all that. Only you've got to admit, every date you've arranged for me so far has been a total disaster.
ZOE CRICK: Just because they didn't turn into long-term relationships doesn't mean they were a disaster.
PHIL CHEESEMAN: One of them walked out after five minutes because I told her I didn't think Pierce Brosnan was that bad as James Bond.
ZOE CRICK: Hmm. To be fair, that is one of your silliest opinions.
PHIL CHEESEMAN: Anyway, I just thought I'd try branching out on my own for a bit. And Layla, this one's just for you.
ZOE CRICK: So I suppose you're going to refuse to tell me about it, and I'll have to go around asking everyone in Abel Township until I finally find someone who happened to see you while you were out to tell me all the gory details. Not that that's what I've done for your previous dates, obviously.
PHIL CHEESEMAN: Sorry, Zo. Not this one.
ZOE CRICK: I suppose if this one went well, you want to avoid upsetting her by blabbing on air.
PHIL CHEESEMAN: No, that's not it. I asked Layla, and she said she didn't mind me telling you. She said she'd listened to the show, and she knows what you're like, and she knows you'll get it out of me anyway.
ZOE CRICK: Hm. She said that, did she?
PHIL CHEESEMAN: Yeah. She also said she knows you're my best friend, so of course you're going to want to know.
ZOE CRICK: Oh.
PHIL CHEESEMAN: I'm still not going to tell you, though. Sorry, but I'm not.
ZOE CRICK: Why?
PHIL CHEESEMAN: Because it's... it was our first date and it was really special and I like that it was just us.
ZOE CRICK: First date. Implying there'd be more?
PHIL CHEESEMAN: We're seeing each other again on Thursday.
ZOE CRICK: That's... that's really good. I'm glad you met someone nice.
PHIL CHEESEMAN: Yeah. Me, too.
ZOE CRICK: Although I'm going to take the mickey out of you about it relentlessly for the next month. Possibly three.
PHIL CHEESEMAN: Yeah. I know.
BERNARD PRIOR: Listeners, this is quite an exciting moment for the show! I am patched live to the negotiations between Chalk Valley's Big Nigel and Ms. Amelia Spens of Fort Canton and the CAIT. Let's listen live.
AMELIA SPENS: Yes, but if you could just stop just for a moment. I mean, come down from the tree. And if I could speak to you, the real you, not Cowslip Blossom the elf. [foliage rustles] Well. That costume doesn't leave much to the imagination.
BERNARD PRIOR: It seems things are going slower than I imagined. Let's have some music.
BERNARD PRIOR: Really? No success?
AMELIA SPENS: Sadly, none. Of course, this program only reaches Chalk Valley through covert channels, but he'd intercepted the broadcasts that mentioned his LARPING. However, instead of suppressing them as I'd imagined, he told the people of Chalk Valley that LARPing was essential training and that his participation in such endeavors with the dastardly forces and powers outside the valley was, in fact, an act of extreme bravery. I will say, there is something brave about impersonating Cowslip Blossom the elf. Seriously, that costume was eye-watering.
BERNARD PRIOR: Whose eyes? [laughs] Yours or his?
AMELIA SPENS: Both.
BERNARD PRIOR: Oh. Listeners, some appropriate music for this solemn occasion.
BERNARD PRIOR: Margot, oh Margot. If only we could find a way to be together, rather than so cruelly adrift in the post-apocalypse. Zombie hordes have a lot to answer for. Dear sweet unattainable Margot.
PHIL CHEESEMAN: Hello, citizens. We've got our regular guest back today, Jody Marsh, former Commander in Chief of Abel Township. Hello, Jody.
JODY MARSH: Hi.
PHIL CHEESEMAN: Jody's back with us to discuss the current nationwide water crisis, and what you as individuals can do about it.
ZOE CRICK: Boring.
JODY MARSH: I know water's not exactly thrilling, but we do sorta need it to live.
ZOE CRICK: Yeah, blah blah. Basis of all life on earth, overconsumption, and draught, blah blah. But wouldn't you rather talk about Phil's new girlfriend?
PHIL CHEESEMAN: No, because she's an actual grown-up with grown-up responsibilities. So Jody, about this water shortage -
JODY MARSH: Hang on, you've got a girlfriend?
PHIL CHEESEMAN: Do you have to sound that surprised about it? Anyway, water shortages -
JODY MARSH: Forget about the water! Tell me about this woman. Who is she? What's she like? What's her job? Where does she live? If you know her shoe size, you can tell me that, too.
PHIL CHEESEMAN: Give me strength.
ZOE CRICK: I think that might be their song.
PHIL CHEESEMAN: No, it isn't.
ZOE CRICK: Really? You were humming it all day yesterday with a silly grin on your face.
JODY MARSH: Don't tell me you're in love! Oh, Phil!
PHIL CHEESEMAN: We've only been on five dates.
ZOE CRICK: That wasn't actually an answer. Also, the fact you're still calling them dates is adorable. Oh, and talking of... didn't I see you out on a date yesterday, Jody?
PHIL CHEESEMAN: Oh, thank God.
JODY MARSH: Maybe. But I think it's time we got back to the important water shortages currently affecting the country.
ZOE CRICK: Nope. What's sauce for the goose, etc. So you and Tom De Luca, eh?
JODY MARSH: Honestly, there's nothing to tell.
ZOE CRICK: No, of course. Nothing except all the gory details. That's a very handsome man you've got yourself. I want dates, frequency, and durations. Marks for artistic merit would also be appreciated.
JODY MARSH: There's none of that, Zo. I'm asexual.
ZOE CRICK: Really? How did I never know that?
JODY MARSH: It never came up. It's not like Abel has a regular Pride march where you'd see me up there waving the ace flag.
ZOE CRICK: I can see why someone might not be into sex.
PHIL CHEESEMAN: Really? You wouldn't think so, from the amount you talk about it.
ZOE CRICK: Oi. To be fair, it is one of my favorite hobbies. But it's also faintly ridiculous and frequently squelchy. I can see why someone might not like it.
JODY MARSH: It's not that I don't like it. I used to do it and it was totally fine!
ZOE CRICK: If it's only fine, you're not doing it right.
JODY MARSH: Believe me, I tried all the variations. One-night stands, people I loved. Men, a couple of women. It was always perfectly okay. Kind of like eating lettuce. Nothing wrong with it, but no one sits there going, God, I'm really craving some lettuce right now. It's just the bit of the salad you eat because it always gets served along with the actual nice bits. That's how I felt about sex in a relationship. If they wanted sex and it made them happy, then it was no skin off my nose.
ZOE CRICK: That's... that's not how you should be feeling about it. You should never feel like you've got to do it because the other person wants it but you don't. Never. Ever.
JODY MARSH: Don't worry. No one put any pressure on me. I just thought that's what you did. But I worked it out eventually. Took me ages, because I used to assume everyone felt about sex the way I did.
PHIL CHEESEMAN: Really? But people are always going on about how amazing it is.
JODY MARSH: Exactly. It was so over the top, I thought they must be lying. But now I've found someone who... likes me the way I am! And it's great. Tom, he's a... he's a great guy.
ZOE CRICK: This one's for you, Tom. For treating our Jody the way she deserves.
ZOE CRICK: Oh my God, that's given me an idea.
PHIL CHEESEMAN: Oh, there we go.
ZOE CRICK: No, listen. It's sensible, for once. Abel Pride.
PHIL CHEESEMAN: Blimey! That actually is a good idea!
ZOE CRICK: Right?
JODY MARSH: It's bloody brilliant! When we win, when we beat Sigrid, that's what we're going to do. We're going to hold a massive great Pride right here in Abel.
PHIL CHEESEMAN: You can march with Amelia, Zo.
ZOE CRICK: [laughs] Can you just imagine? Amelia waving a rainbow flag and chanting, "We're here, we're queer, get used to it."
PHIL CHEESEMAN: I'd pay good money to see that.
ZOE CRICK: [laughs] She'll probably pay someone else to march for her. Anyway, you and Layla can come to support us.
PHIL CHEESEMAN: Oh, that'd be good. It's definitely time you met. I think you two would get on like a house on fire.
JODY MARSH: Maxine and Paula and Sam can bring Sara. They can dress her up in a little rainbow dress!
ZOE CRICK: [laughs] And we'll raise a glass to Jack and Eugene.
PHIL CHEESEMAN: There you have it, citizens. Abel Pride, and everyone's invited. Keep listening to find out more.

Do you think some of the gang of t70s had character growth or stayed the same/regressed during the later seasons (like 6+)? I at least believe Kelso did have some growth at the end of the show
I believe that some of the characters grew on season 6, some of them stayed the same (Fez), and some of them regressed (Donna).
About Donna and Fez: I'm not going to talk a lot about how the writers fucked their characters up because that would be a really long answer. From what I can tell, the writers stopped caring about their growth on season 5. Donna completely forgot why she and Eric broke up, she literally became the person she said she didn't want to be by accepting Eric's marriage proposal. Fez became a creep on s5 and I don't know how the gang managed to stay friends with him.
If Donna regressed on s5, then she just went downhill on s6. I still can't believe that she gave up her education to stay with Eric, I'm pretty sure they could've handled the whole distance thing, Madison's not that far away and Eric has a car. I get that they couldn't just write Donna off the show, but I'm pretty sure the writers could've figured something out if they tried hard enough. In my opinion, there was a point where Donna was barely a character of her own, she was Eric's girlfriend and that's it.
And Fez was the same pervert he was on s5, nothing changed.
About character development (on season 6)... Kelso was clearly the one that grew the most, I think the storyline with Brooke was brilliant and I'll never forgive the writers for breaking these two apart.
Kelso's growth (for me), starts when he finally realizes that Jackie and Hyde actually love and care about each other, and he "lets her go". Season 5 Kelso was an asshole to both Jackie and Hyde, he did absolutely everything he could to break them up, so I think that making Kelso bring Jackie and Hyde back together on season 6 was pretty cool.
When he impregnates Brooke, he panics and tries to run away from the responsibility, but he comes to his senses eventually and tries to do the right thing. When Brooke tells him she doesn't want him to be a part of their child's life, he's genuinely heartbroken, and that's what motivates him to change and be a better person.
It's the first time we actually see Kelso pursuing someone for un-selfish reasons. He's determined to change and he tries his best to prove to Brooke that he can and will be a good father. He gets a job at the hotel, he enters the police academy, and he falls in love with Brooke.
That's a controversial opinion, by the way. There are some people who think that Kelso wasn't in love with Brooke, but I genuinely think he was. She was the only girl he's been with that he didn't constantly pester to "do it" with him, he prioritized her and the baby over his own interests and he showed little to no interest in other girls when they were together. They were really cute together and had lots of potential.
Jackie and Hyde grew a lot together on season 6, their relationship was great and they seemed happy together. The only problem they had (I'm not counting the first two episodes) was Jackie's brief marriage obsession, but that was solved on s6ep18 "Do You Think It's Alright".
Most of Jackie's character development happened on s5. She had just started dating Hyde (someone who actually cared about her and taught her useful things), and her father was sent to jail. She had to fend for herself and that is not an easy thing for a teenager to go through, and it changed her.
Her character on s6 grew too, just not as much as it did on s5. She and Hyde were in a stable (and almost domestic) relationship, I really like how the writers began to make parallels between them and Kitty and Red. Honestly, Jackie and Kitty could've been such a powerful duo, I wish they had more screen time together.
Season 6 Hyde's behavior was consistent to his behavior on s5 (except for a few episodes), he helped the Forman's out money-wise after Red had his heart attack, he and Jackie were in a really nice place, he had just graduated from high school and he had a steady job. The only thing I would change about Hyde in s6 is his behavior towards Pam. Hyde was abandoned by his mother too, and I find it really hard to believe that instead of being pissed at Pam, he ogled over her. Real Hyde would've prioritized Jackie over Kelso going to the police academy, he would've been there for her, and I think he would have probably yelled at Pam at some point.
But overall, Hyde's character grew too.
Eric made a huge sacrifice by postponing college to work and help his family. I mean, HUGE. Eric and Donna always dreamt of leaving Point Place, and I can assure you that it wasn't easy for Eric to postpone that dream for a while.
Eric's growth might not have been as big as Kelso's, or Hyde and Jackie's, but it's still growth.
Now, season 7... I don't hate season 7, there are many episodes of season 7 that I like and the jokes are most of the time hillarious, but the writers really messed up character-wise.
All the characters, I mean ALL of them, regressed on s7.
All that character development Kelso had on season 6 was thrown in the garbage. Sure, he was still determined to be a good father, but at some point he became a man-whore again, and pairing him up with Angie had to be one of the most stupid things the writers did on s7.
Hyde suddenly became afraid of commitment (which doesn't really make sense to me) and began to slowly pull away from Jackie, who became insecure about their relationship and started to demand things from him again.
Jackie's marriage obsession ended in season 6, and I have no idea why the writers brought it back on season 7. I'm sure they could've created conflict between Jackie and Hyde in a better way.
Jackie was always a materialistic girl, but being with Hyde changed her and taught her that there are more important things in life than money and presents. Apparently, the Jackie from s7 forgot all about that.
About the other characters...
Fez continued to be the perv from the earlier seasons.
Eric became a lazy person with absolutely no aspirations in life.
Some of Donna's attitudes were... questionable, to say the least. I'll never get over how she trash-talked Red's muffler shop on the radio, and how she got that girl fired from the radio station. She also seemed to forget all about her life aspirations and goals, that's why I think she was so pissed when Eric told her that he was going to Africa.
And I am not going to talk about season 8 because it managed to ruin every single character in every possible way and it makes me sad to talk about it.
So, yeah, some characters grew and some characters regressed on season 6, but everyone regressed on season 7. It's honestly pretty sad, but we have fanfiction for a reason!

The 100: 7x01 From the Ashes
Disclaimer: This post is about the episode of the show The 100, From the Ashes, the season 7 premiere, and only about it. In this post, I will NOT be discussing any original scripts, unused takes, bloopers, behind the scene photos or videos, scribbled notes exchanged between the writers, or any tweets, Instagram posts, SMS or e-mails by any of the cast or crew members, considering the fact that none of those things constitute the show’s canon, which consists of the actual episodes.
I will also not be discussing anything about the future episodes posted by any ‘spoiler accounts’, and, in fact, I am unaware of most of these things, since I’m trying not to read any spoilers. Please do not tell me any spoilers for future episodes or ask me about them.
I really enjoyed this episode, in spite of the unfortunate lack of Bellamy (which I was already expecting since what happens to him here was already spoiled by the trailer. Of course, I’m looking forward to see Bellamy again, and, before that, to everyone finding out about disappearance and it becoming the focus of the season. But until then, the show has quite a few other storylines to deal with, from setting up and delving more into the Anomaly mystery, to dealing with the fall-out of season 6 in Sanctum, and both of these were handled well, for the most part.
This episode in particular had really good characterizations all around - for Murphy, Echo, Indra, Madi, Raven, Emori, Gaia, even Jackson - and, of course, Clarke, who had an arc that took her tendency to try to repress her feelings to an extreme, until they exploded in a most memorable way. It will cause her trouble, no doubt, but it was great to watch, and something I had been wishing for for quite some time.
There is just one character whose storyline I’m still not sure how I feel about, because I’m not sure what the show is doing with him.
After the last season’s cliffhanger, there was some concern in the fandom that Bellamy would regress to being all about protecting his sister, after their relationship had been redefined with “You’re my sister, but you’re not my responsibility”. Some of that was really exaggerated: there’s absolutely nothing odd or surprising about Bellamy crying over his sister disappearing in his arms. Of course he loves her and wants her safe. But I was concerned they may regress his development if they make him forget about everyone and everything else in his life in order to impulsively jump after her into the Anomaly. However, that did not happen - Bellamy didn’t decide to go on his own, rather than tell others and make a plan. He was taken.
The mysterious people from the Anomaly seem to be able to control the Anomaly, and have some sort of a cloaking device, presumably connected to their suits and helmets, that makes them invisible to others. They also have some sort of a screen inside their helmets, with facial recognition of targets and commands. It’s all a bit creepy - these seem to be humans, but they are receiving orders the way a robot would. (It’s all very Terminator-like!) Maybe because they also have lost their memories while going through the Anomaly? Where did they get the info about who Bellamy, Gabriel and Echo are - was it from Octavia’s memories?
Memories and memory loss are obviously going to play a huge role this season. People who come from the Anomaly to Sanctum seem to lose their memories, except when the Anomaly is still there. Does this happen only on Sanctum, or at the other side(s) as well? How does the fact that the Anomaly sucks in radio signals fit into that? Hope had to use a message she put into her own arm to remind herself to “TRUST BELLAMY”. (Interstellar is mentioned a lot as an inspiration for this season, but this reminds me of another Nolan film, Memento.)
We also see Clarke spout knowledge about how the big mansion was built (by Russell for Simone, to remind her of her house on Earth), which she would know due to still having some of Josephine’s memories. And I’m sure that the fact Madi still has the memories of past Commanders will play a big role - specifically, the fact she has Becca’s memories, which could be the way to tie the present day story to the prequel/story about what happened during and right after the apocalypse. (She also probably knows about Sheidheda more than anyone else alive, which may play into the Sanctum story.)
It’s too early to judge Hope as a character, but the mystery surrounding her is certainly super interesting. Why do the mysterious people from the Anomaly have orders to kill her on sight (as opposed to capturing, which they were supposed to do with Bellamy, Echo and Gabriel)? Is it because of who she is, or what she is - is it about her actions, does she know too much, or is her existence itself that’s the problem?
I loved the Octavia cameo in Hope’s hallucination, with the confirmation that she was an “aunt” figure to her, a part of a found family with Diyoza and Hope. The Anomaly makes you see your biggest desire or biggest fear - and Hope’s biggest desire seems to be to be reunited with her family
Echo’s hallucination, on the other hand, is obviously about her biggest fear - so it makes perfect sense that it’s Roan who appears to her, as he exiled her from Azgeda. Of course biggest fear would be losing her kru and her king/queen and being left alone and adrift. I’m as surprised as anyone that I found Echo's scene to be maybe the best in the episode. But she did have some really good character moments in seasons 6, and this is IMO her best character moment so far, picking up from her red sun hallucination in 6x02, and flashback from 6x11. which revealed that even her identity as “Echo” is fake. It seems the show is finally doing the character development it neglected to give her in season 5, and addressing all the obvious issues with Echo’s development and her relationship with Bellamy. I think this confirms that it was indeed Echo talking to herself while hallucinating Emori in 6x02, since her hallucination of Roan tells her the same thing, that she is still just a killer following another master’s orders. We finally see Echo feeling guilt over the things she did in the past, including her betrayal of Bellamy in season 3. When she imagines him calling her out on betraying “the man she now claims to love”, is it just about her thinking the others would doubt her love, or is she herself questioning whether her feelings for Bellamy are really romantic love, or just loyalty to her current leader? Their relationship, especially in S6, often came off more as the latter.
(It was also really cool to see Zach McGowan again)
The timeline of 7x01 seems to have confused some fans, but I think it’s pretty obvious that, at the beginning of the Sanctum story, no more than a day (probably less than that) has passed since 6x13 - going by the facts that 1) the Anomaly storyline picked up minutes after the end of 6x13, and the Sanctum story was presumably happening at the same time, and 2) Indra had to explain the situation in Sanctum to everyone. The only thing that seems to go against that is that Russell is said to “not have slept” since what happened on the ship, which makes it seem like it’s been longer. Or maybe Russell was just being extra dramatic. “Oh, I have no slept for a whole day!” He certainly spent a lot of this (his last) episode feeling sorry for himself. At least he seemed to have finally realized he wasn’t the superior good guy in all of it (”Tell them I’m treated better than I deserve” - yes, indeed.)
Indra was great, even though poor Adina was forced to be an exposition machine for a part of the episode.
A common complaint I’ve seen among fans is that it’s weird that Clarke and others in Sanctum aren’t worried about Bellamy and co. I don’t understand this complaint, as it’s clear that very little time has passed and that Bellamy, Octavia, Echo and Gabriel must have told everyone they were leaving and why (though I don’t know how many details they told them about the Anomaly Stone). People have been gone for a whole day in season 6 when they just went to the Offering Grove (Echo in 6x06) or the radioactive shield (Raven, Emori and Echo in 6x05), which are within the confines of Sanctum and much nearer than the camp by the Anomaly. What are they supposed to do but wait for a couple of days for them to come back? It’s not like they can call them, when radios and other means of communication usually don’t work on Alpha because of the Anomaly sucking the signals.
In fact, their absence was mentioned in the picnic scene, when Raven toasted to “absent friends” and we got a reaction shot of Clarke (I know, Clarke, I'd be annoyed too if I was you, but Bellamy had to be all "I'm gonna go now and explore the Anomaly Stone while Sanctum is in chaos and you're in mourning for your mom" because the plot needed him to..., before Niylah toasted to the “departed ones” (which would include Kane and Abby) and we got a close-up reaction shot of Clarke trying to keep it all inside, as she did every time in this episode someone mentioned Abby.
The idyllic picnic by the mansion - everyone’s attempt to get some rest and nice time after everything they had been through - was such a contrast to the “powder keg” of Sanctum and the end of this episode. But it also felt fake - just as fake as the deception and lies that Murphy and Emori are Daniel and Kaylee Prime, or that Madi still has the Flame in her head - to keep the devout and Wonkru under control, respectively - and just as fake as Clarke’s attempts to convince everyone she’s “fine”. As usual, the song playing in the background (”Darkness” by Pinegrove) was very fitting:
Suddenly I find I've got darkness on my mind It's a question mark that keeps me looking And it's never satisfied And it's never what I thought Saying I'm happy when I'm not No, I got darkness on my mind Leaning out the frame When it's particulate and gray I'm perpendicular to my whole being When I lean a certain way Saying I'm happy when I'm not Finding roaches in the pot Oh, I got darkness on my mind Some people spend their whole lives looking For someone who could understand While meanwhile a lilac blooming Sometimes on the driest land And I know it's been a long time coming I'm angry and I know that's weak And I'm longing out that open window For whatever it is I seek [musical breakdown] Some people spend their whole lives looking For someone who could understand And while meanwhile a lilac blooming Sometimes on the driest land And I know it's been a long time coming I'm angry and I know that's weak So I'm trying not to be so bitter I'm just looking at it honestly Well, I know it's been a long time coming I'm angry and I know that's weak And I'm longing out that open window For whatever it is I seek Some people spend their whole lives looking For someone who could understand While meanwhile a lilac blooming Sometimes on the driest land, yeah
I like that there was anger, blame and conflict between our kru and that everyone didn’t just forget what happened last season (and for once, Clarke is not the one getting the blame!) It would've made no sense if no one was blaming Murphy, and it makes sense it would be Jackson, who was so close to Abby and who’s not particularly close to Murphy. It also makes sense there was disagreement about the method of keeping peace in Sanctum, and that not everyone would be happy with Memori cosplaying the Primes.
Murphy himself had a really good characterization in this episode - we saw his grief and his feelings of guilt. While he tried to defend himself when blamed that he didn’t know what Russell would do, when left alone, he blamed himself for various actions that led to it, which is something Murphy from a couple of seasons ago wouldn’t do.
It’s great to see Raven looking more like her old, pre-season 6 self, and even better to see that her self-righteousness has gone. She’s more like the old Raven but without the snarky b1tchiness. I’m glad that she got called out by Murphy on her “Miss Morality” role from last season (which never really made sense, pre-time jump Raven was never a moral compass of the group, she was smart, pragmatic and could be as ruthless as anyone).
Another major theme of the Sanctum plot were the new beginnings. Clarke pointing out season 3 feels like another world seems almost like the show going meta and pointing out to the audience how much Clarke and all these people have lived through and been since. What is Sanctum now after the Primes have been defeated, with Children of Gabriel coming back home and clashing with the Devout - brainwashed and loyal followers of the Primes, with the rest of the Sanctumites in between? How are Wonkru and the 36 Eligius prisoners going to start again on a new planet moon? (36?! Wow, so they really suffered heavy losses in that gorge, too, when there are so few left?) Can Grounders be without a Commander? Gaia without her religion? Can Madi be a normal kid, without the Flame - or is that even possible while she has to pretend to still be Heda? The title From the ashes seems to refer to that - and maybe the end of the episode means that you have to burn down the old beliefs and old idols to build something new?
Mothers and daughters were another theme. I liked that Madi mentioned her biological parents (well, mother) on-screen for the first time, since the fandom tends to forget about them and ignore them too often. Madi was unsuccessful in her attempt to make Clarke share her feelings with her - maybe because this conversation showed a big difference in how they see each other? Clarke thinks of Madi as her child, but Clarke has never had a child before, while Madi had parents and suffered their loss; Clarke assumed Madi was talking about her and what happened in S6, but Madi always calls Clarke “Clarke” rather than “Mom”, and tried to connect to her on the equal level, as another daughter who’s lost a mother. Maybe it’s exactly because Clarke sees Madi only as her child that she feels she must be “strong” for her all the time and not show grief.
There was an unexpected parallel between Indra and Clarke in how Indra also tried to suppress outward expressions of grief when her partner - Gaia’s father died, which clearly wasn’t healthy and caused a rift between mother and daughter. (I’m not sure about when that happened, i.e. when Gaia first decided to become a Flamekeeper. I guess it must have been before the timeline of seasons 1-3. So Gaia’s dad is probably not the man that Indra recognized in 2x15 as one of the Reapers? I’m still angry that we never got any resolution to that storyline and that the Reapers were forgotten after season 2.)
The one thing I’m not sure about is Jordan’s characterization and arc. I’m not sure what the show is doing with his exactly, and I’m afraid that they’ll try to leave it ambiguous just how much he is or isn’t brainwashed. 6x13 made it very clear that he has been “adjusted”, which Russell confirmed here, and Jordan’s “adjustor”, who was creeping behind him in the season 6 finale, was very present and active in this episode, and clearly still had a big influence on him. At the same time, we learn that Jordan does not believe in the divinity of the Primes - instead of that, his hallucinations made him see something connected to the mystery of the Anomaly, which Russell describes as something “greater” (almost like he has finally found God, of sorts, after all, which he talked about 236 years before when he first landed on Alpha)? The good news is that it means Jordan will have a role in the Anomaly story, rather than being the advocate for the Devout. What I’m afraid of is that the show will gloss over the fact that Jordan was brainwashed - whether or not he came to believe that Primes were gods, he certainly did a 180 from despising Primes as murderers, being outraged by their actions and knowing very well that Priya was not Delilah but someone who took over her body; to (just a few days later, after “adjustment”) spouting Prime propaganda about the “peaceful” society they had before the Bad People from Earth came (that’s the peace they had when they regularly murdered their people to steal their bodies, left babies to die, and made them go crazy and kill each other from time to time) and having some kind of attachment to Priya herself and her mind drive.
At least, I hope that Russell unceremoniously smashing the mind drive means we’re done with that storyline. I loved it, it was my favorite storyline of the show, but it’s time for it to be over. It makes no sense that anyone is still letting Russell keep his mind drive, for starters. When will they realize they need to destroy these things?
- Clarke’s way of dealing with grief over her mom’s death was certainly unhealthy - repressing her feelings even more than usual, trying to be calm, composed, logical, to do the things needed to keep peace. In her last scene in 6x13, Clarke was open about her grief with Bellamy, looking to him for comfort, finding comfort in his arms and his words. But now he’s absent, there’s no one else she can be that open and vulnerable with. (The only other person Clarke looked for comfort to was Abby.) It’s nice to see that she and Raven have mended their friendship with Raven, she is starting to develop a new one with Gaia over their mutual care for Madi, she has mutual respect with Indra, she’s known others - like Murphy or Miller = for years, since the Delinquent days... and they all want to help her, but she’s not opening up to anyone, not even Madi. She thinks she must be “strong” for all of them, and her Head and Heart are unbalanced - she’s repressing the latter, until she finally explodes.
I love the scene of Clarke finally losing it and beating up Russell (I had already seen it in the trailer, and it was my favorite moment) and then crying while holding Abby's clothes. I don’t know about anyone else, but I love seeing an angry, emotional Clarke, letting it all out, especially when it's anger at people she has every right to be furious at. We haven’t seen that from her since early season 3 (when she yelled and spat in Lexa’s face over her betrayal). It had bothered me for a few seasons that Clarke - who used to be vibrant and could be impulsive, angry, hold grudges, yell at people in seasons 1-2, had become so repressed and muted due to her constant self-blame. I’ve had enough watching Clarke look sad while other people keep yelling at her and blaming her. (The only other instance of Clarke being furious was her hurt and rage at Bellamy and the slap in 5x09, but that was more of a silent, “internally screaming” rage/hurt, which turned into Clarke being emotionally frozen for the next couple of episodes, until learning he was alive. When Clarke is keeping everything inside and not yelling, that’s when she’s in the worst emotional state.)
It is, however, so sad that she still blames herself, too, for her mother’s death, whispering “I’m sorry”, the same way she whispered after seeing her father floated.
My only problem with the scene of that stupid palace burning down is that "mistakes" is a serious real understatement for what Russell has done. I know, I know, this will cause a lot of trouble in Sanctum and Clarke will probably have to go back on some of these decisions to keep peace. But there’s really nothing morally wrong with deciding to execute Russell - not only does he deserve it, but he’s arguably even an exception from the general objection to death penalty, since he’s lived several times the normal human lifespan, by stealing other people’s bodies. And the palace burning down is a symbolic way to send the message that the old power structures are gone - which Clarke pointed out when she said there will be no kings or queens anymore.
Sheiheda taking over Russell’s, or rather his latest host’s body, wasn’t surprising, as that was the most popular theory. But it was cool to see Sheidheda’s creepy mindspace again and Sean Maguire as the original Russell. The bodysnatcher got bodysnatched. That’s something like poetic justice.
I just have to post this because it’s such a beautiful shot!

Chasing the Ghosts of Season 8
Let’s skip the flowery intros and get to the point, because this is important.
Lotor’s vindication and reunion with Allura were originally part of VLD s8 and I can prove it. Most animation relating to this plot was excised, while other clips were re-purposed to make it look like he was dead all along: but some are still in there.
The removal of this plot line was one of the major factors in completely messing up season 8, and it was a change that was made very recently; no earlier than August in fact. There is a significant, non-zero chance that an unedited version of Season 8 exists in its entirety; completely finished.
The evidence is below the cut.
Trigger Warnings: Gore - that image and discussion of it, body horror, sexism, and major character death.
There’s something rotten in the house of Voltron, and by that I mean Dreamworks animation, because for reasons yet unknown the season 8 we got was not the one the writers had planned to give us.
The people involved likely can't talk about it due to NDAs, but I follow *most* of the cast and crew on social media, and from the way many of them were talking prior to the drop it’s obvious that whatever they'd recorded had led them to expect a very different season.
The almost total radio silence afterward is also telling.
So far as I can tell, AJ (Lotor’s VA) is the only one actively posting about it, and his posts have been expressing his distress over what happened to Lotor - a stark contrast to his excitement about the season prior to its airing. It’s very apparent that he thought Lotor would have a very different fate than he appears to. At the moment of the season drop he tweeted out “Lotor was framed”, and later didn’t seem to realize that ‘Allura’ was trending because she’d died.
Some of the other VA’s scarce posts lead me to believe that they’re having similar reactions: a now deleted post from Bex (Pidge’s VA) about having watched up to episode 6 consisted of an image of DOTU Lance captioned with “[internal screaming]”. Bex has since removed all references to VLD from her bio.
I’m certain that the VLD s8 we got was NOT the s8 that was originally planned. Or the one the writers and VAs had been alluding to in various interviews up until recently.
We know there were some very last minute changes to season 8. I guarantee you that Ezor was actually dead before the backlash over Adam in August, and you're kidding yourselves if you think that epilogue existed before then either.
Kihyun Ryu's 'last Shiro' tweet - that we now know to be from the wedding epilogue - was posted on September 13th, 2018. Less than two months ago these changes were still in progress. Less than a month before the first trailer premiered at NYCC these changes were still being made.
And those was absolutely not the only things which were changed. It was hinted we should pay attention to the s7 episode "the Feud" to spot some foreshadowing. Well? I've seen both that episode and s8 and I sure as heck can't find it.
This was beyond last minute.
JDS and LM were still talking in ways that would lead us to expect Lotor’s redemption roughly up to s7 in August; so whatever happened, it went down between August and November. Which is probably why s8 is so shitty; with such a terribly compressed timeline to make edits.
And edits they were, because with those time frames season 8 was either completely finished or very near to it when someone decided that things had to change.
I can prove it.
Do you know how?
Because the animation was recycled and altered to fit the new story, with only small parts made new for it. And because it was something else first, it’s still possible to partially reconstruct the original Season 8 from it.
Lets start with the big one, the one I’m sure you’re here to read: Lotor’s redemption and reunion with Allura.
One of the most frustrating things about season 8 is that it leaves the colony unexplained. The big question, the thing that results in Lotor’s murder at the hands of people he calls friends, and leads to a power vacuum that causes the deaths of untold billions of people. What was Lotor doing at the colony?
It’s never addressed or given an answer.
At least in the version of season 8 that we got.
Or is it?
Because they might have removed the conclusion to that plot thread, but they couldn’t get rid of it entirely.
In e8 ‘Clear Day’. Allura's suffers from several nightmares/dream sequences. They don't make any sense in context, and it’s never explained what caused them. Except, they make perfect sense, if you watch them as the first step towards understanding The Colony.
Allura sees herself standing in a Juniberry field on Altea. Her mother greets her and proclaims that Allura has arrived just in time, and that only she can save them, “Only you can protect us.”
A Galra fleet passes over head, raining down laser fire.
Allura suddenly finds herself the pilot of one of the white mechs. She plunges her spear into the ground, draining the quintessence, and then fires on the fleet; obliterating it.
But as she grins in victory she realizes that the quintessence she siphoned from the planet has turned her immediate landscape to ash, including her mother. Allura is horrified, but as her mother crumbles away her voice echoes, telling Allura she is so proud of her.
In case me describing it wasn’t clear enough: what just happened to her was that Allura was literally put in Lotor’s position, operating one of his mechs. The places and the people were those that Allura cherished deeply, so that she could understand how terrible Lotor felt about what he had to do. It literally puts Allura in Lotor's place: having to take the responsibility of destroying parts of something she loves in order to protect the whole.
And her mother? The Altean who was ‘sacrificed’ in this scenario? Praised her for taking the actions she did, because Allura was the only one able to do it. And the only choice was to save most of Altea, or none of it.
When Allura eventually does take the entity into herself we see the lights of Honerva’s mech’s faceplate lighting, then flash to a scene of Lotor in Sincline. He’s laughing, grinning as he did during s6′s finale, and as the camera zooms in on his face he shouts “Follow me!”
Briefly we see Voltron in front of the planets of Earth’s solar system, which is drowned out by a peculiar scene transition: an intense white light that appears to obliterate everything as though in an explosion.
None of these scenes are ever explained, but it’s reasonably comparable to the flash of images that Haggar sees in season 3 when she is first confronted with Zarkon’s memories. We’re left with the impression that we’re about to be enlightened, and the end of the episode reveals that Allura has passed out on the floor unconscious.
In this version of season 8, we never are told what exactly caused Allura to experience those visions. We can guess: was it perhaps the entity tempting her with its dark magic? Honerva attempting to place her under a spell?
But is the entity really dark magic? It’s different from the types of magic we’re used to, and the colors of it are certainly dark, but it in itself never actually causes Allura harm. Any harm she suffers after taking it into herself is caused by Honerva exploiting it.
Could it be a spell by Honerva? Unlikely. It took her almost two whole episodes of the paladins fooling around inside her mind for her to notice they were even there. If Allura had never taken the entity none of Honerva’s plans would have ever been found out. Yes, she did steal all the energy from the Atlas’ crystal, but she did that primarily to combat the Atlas and disable it. She didn’t need to get it from there, the energy her Komars were able to provide was all she needed.
So what caused those visions?
Lotor did.
Once he was free of the rift he was able to connect with Allura somehow and reach out to her. That was really him. Where he is now, trapped under Haggar’s control, he has no means to combat the witch. But Allura does. Everything he says to her? Is true.
The next episode, s8e9 “Knights of Light: Part 1″ begins with Allura awaking, Coran and Lance by her bedside. She’s been asleep for two quintants (days). She has apparently come up with a plan to infiltrate Honerva’s mind, but from whence she gets this plan is never explained. That’s because we’re missing an entire episode between these two. This is where Lotor’s redemption happens, where he and Allura finally reunite. God knows what else was in that episode, what else was happening while the paladins were waiting for Allura to wake. Lotor bids Allura to follow him, to finally allow him to tell his side of the story, and for some reason we weren’t allowed to hear it.
But from what we did get to see? It all but confirms @crystal-rebellion‘s Colony Theory. Albeit, the white mechs were built by Honerva, but Lotor was attempting to keep the colony safe in the only way he knew how. The Alteans who died did so willingly; to preserve the lives of all the others.
There’s a repeated narrative that the only person who encourages Allura to take action, to strive and push forward, is Lotor. Sometimes others accept it, but they never encourage her. Everyone else seems to consider her too fragile, or not capable of making her own decisions. They want to protect her and coddle her, don’t believe she should be taking any risks. They are supportive emotionally, but want to limit her physically. They care about her, but don’t truly trust her judgement or want her to be making her own choices.
With Lotor though, it’s different. He truly sees her as an equal, respects her judgement in her areas of expertise. This plot line revolving around the entity is a prime example. Lotor provides Allura with the information, that she has everything she needs to take down Honerva right in front of her; she just needs to utilize it. But from the moment Allura wakes the people closest to her doubt her decisions and choices.
And yes, those choices lead to painful consequences, but in the end they are proven to be the right ones, to have been necessary. Allura took a calculated risk, and it pays off - if she hadn’t they’d have never caught Honerva in time to stop her from destroying everything. They wouldn’t even have discovered her plan in the first place.
If Allura hadn’t made the choice to listen to and trust Lotor, by her own judgement, reality itself would have ceased to exist.
Both Coran and Alfor are given specific scenes this season where they judge and approve of Lance in his pursuit of Allura. But key, neither of them ever ask - or even mention - Allura’s feelings on the matter. The s8 we got, rather disgustingly, portrays this as the right thing. I believe the original s8 was meant to subvert this. Because Lance is everyone else’s choice for Allura, but when Allura was allowed to make her own choice? She chose Lotor.
Allura once again ends s8e10 ‘Knights of Light: Part 2′ unconscious. I firmly believe we are missing more moments - if not an entire episode - with Lotor here, in s8e11 ‘Uncharted Regions’ - probably explaining somewhere along the way how exactly he is able to contact her in this manner.
Which, uh... as to my personal theory on how that is, well... what did Lotor and Allura do together that might have crafted a unique spiritual bond between them?
What did you two experience in the quintessence field Lotor?
But, those were happier times...
I also think this is the episode, this missing one, that that particular image properly belongs to. We now see it in the previous episode, as one of Honerva’s memories. But the reason we see it is that the paladins apparently see it too. The only problem is, they don’t react to it at all. They literally have a stronger reaction to finding out they can see Honerva’s memories in the first place. There’s no possible way that Allura saw the melted corpse of the man she loved and had no discernible reaction. We see her reactions to Lotor’s presence multiple times over the course of s7 and s8, and they’re always intensely emotional ones.
But speaking of that image, since we’re on the topic. That’s a very detailed image.
There’s details there you don’t immediately spot, because you’re too distracted by the horrific imagery of the corpse of a main character. A character who’s tragic, abusive childhood was the focus of almost an entire episode earlier in the season.
Details such as the motes of light floating up from his body.
Motes of light we’ve seen in exactly two instances before: from Zarkon and Honerva’s eyes immediately after they were restored back to life by the rift.
And from Zarkon’s body: vanishing after he died.
Yeah guys, I’m about to make that image much worse.
That’s not Lotor’s corpse, because he’s not dead.
He’s still in there, in that state, and he’s been in there for over three years.
Melded, physically and mentally, with Sincline by his time spent in the quintessence field.
What. The. Fuck.
As the season progresses it becomes much more difficult to tell what was supposed to be happening because of how badly it’s been chopped up, re-arranged, and edited.
But there is a very distinct difference between Sincline’s two appearances in action - that is, it’s only in the first one that it actually is in action.
The last time we see Sincline move of it’s own accord is e6 ‘Genesis’. From the moment he reappears Lotor is on the attack; he is stopped only two times, once of his own accord and once by Haggar’s mind control.
And that one time he stops himself? Is when he takes aim at Allura. She’s running across the ground, about to strike Honerva with her bayard, when he raises his right arm and takes aim. We see her in his sights, through his eyes. And the view zooms in on Allura’s face.
Lance sees what’s happening and dives in Red to stop him, but is blocked by one of the white mechs.
Yet. He lowers his arm and doesn’t take the shot.
Lotor never fires.
But immediately afterwards the white mech lingers too close and Sincline impales it with it’s tail. It’s not an aversion to killing that stayed his hand.
It’s that it was Allura.
This scene unambiguously shows that Lotor is both alive inside that mech and somewhat aware of himself. He’s become a robeast.
Yet after that episode the mech never moves again. It hangs lifeless in space during the battle at the pyramid; the white mechs having to do the fighting. The lights on it’s chest have gone out, only relighting when it is charged with quintessence from the Komar. For all intents and purposes, Sincline is empty.
Oh, and speaking of Sincline, up until s8e9 it’s only ever referred to as “Lotor’s mech,” but suddenly, in e11 ‘Uncharted Regions’ they’ve learned its name and Allura calls it “Lotor’s Sincline”.
I think that at some point between ‘Knights of Light’ and the second half of e11 ‘Uncharted Regions’ Lotor was to have been rescued. 'Uncharted Regions’ is one of the worst episodes this season for flow: it’s extremely choppy and hard to follow - flicking back and forth between scenes without anything really happening in them.
But the most telling thing?
‘Uncharted Regions’ begins with Honerva in her haloed mech searching Alternate realities for her ‘perfect’ one. We see several clips of her doing this, the mech floating in front of the pyramid, alone, with the spinning disk of its wings as a viewport.
Suddenly, almost exactly halfway through the episode, we get an image of Honerva kneeling inside the pyramid, in her Altean commander uniform, one uniformed Altean to either side. She says “The princess has awakened,” and then the scene changes.
When next we see Honerva she’s floating above the pyramid, the silent and immobile Sincline by her side.
The entire time this is happening there is combat going on around the pyramid, first with the coalition fighters and then with the Atlas itself. This sequence appears in episode as though it all happens successively in a very short period of time. But it doesn’t make sense like that. Why should Honerva stop what she’s doing, and exit her mech just to check if Allura is awake?
In this scenario why does Honerva even care if Allura is awake? By this point she’s apparently found her perfect reality and is prepared to move on to it? She doesn’t need Allura for anything, none of her plans require Allura. Why should she even bother to announce that Allura is awake, as though this is something she’s been waiting for?
This entire episode, including the fight scenes, has been chopped into little pieces and rearranged. Other scenes have had edits to their animation, or were re-done entirely. What we have in ‘Uncharted Regions’ is a frankenstein’s monster of an episode constructed of the tiny remnants of of at least two, possibly three, original episodes.
If you watch this episode carefully you’ll notice that there’s a clip out of order. The lights on Sincline’s chest are dark until it’s charged with the quintessence from the Alteans on the Atlas. But. The close up shot of Sincline the paladins see immediately upon exiting the wormhole in front of the pyramid has the lights lit up. This clip clearly is part of the sequence we see later in the episode just before the mechs combine. So when the crew on the bridge of the Atlas is shown reacting in horror, whatever they’re actually reacting to has been cut out.
These original missing episodes would have contained what I’m fairly certain was our big Alchemist vs Alchemist reprisal fight between Honerva and Allura; something we’ve been waiting for since season 2′s finale.
Why was such an anticipated fight removed?
I think it’s because the fight was over Lotor, and ultimately Allura would have rescued him.
Every time Allura uses the powers she obtained in Oriande it’s mentioned where she got them, and often that she has them because of Lotor.
She’s shown again and again restoring life and health.
What happened, what we’re missing, is her using the abilities she has thanks to Lotor, to save him.
Allura is supposed to storm that pyramid, infiltrate it, and rescue Lotor from the evil witch holding him captive. She’s supposed to find him in that horrible state we saw him in, and she’s going to heal him. She’s going to fight for him, to protect him, when no one else in his life ever has.
There’s also a clear switch. When Sincline is active and alight Honerva several times refers to it as ‘my son’ but afterwards, she stops and uses Sincline as a tool for her to reach an Alternate Reality and obtain a ‘new’ version of Lotor. With the exception of one shot, where, since we can’t actually see her speaking it seems that the audio and animation are sourced from different original scenes, Honerva ceases treating Sincline as Lotor after the lights go out.
The line that causes Honerva to snap s8e12 ‘The Zenith’ is when the little alt Lotor says “My mother is dead”. It’s framed like a deliberate callback, like it should be echoing something. But it’s a line we’ve never heard. I’d hazard that this final rejection, this line was spoken by *our* Lotor as Allura is rescuing him.
Lotor was not dead in there, he was alive, and he was saved.
There is a really good theory going around, my friend @tsunemori told me about it. I don't know who first came up with it, but I fully support it, because I noticed the scene in question was really off too.
But the theory is that that hospital bed scene? Was originally Lotor in the bed after they rescued him, and Allura was in Lance's place. Which makes total sense, because after that scene, when Lance takes Allura to the bridge? His height is all wrong, and he is hanging onto her for support instead of the other way around: it should be Lotor there.
Do I have any concrete proof of this one? No. But there is something off about that scene. It just doesn’t feel right.
So yeah, if I ask myself, “Is this a scene that might have been re-animated, the characters traced over and re-drawn as different ones?” I can absolutely see that. When looking for places where actual edits to the animation have been made you have to factor in several things: the complexity of the animation - how many characters, how many settings, how much movement, who is the focus/moving/talking.
This is both a pivotal scene, and an incredibly easy one to alter, comparatively. Two characters, one laying still in a bed and only getting a single one-syllable line - the other character’s name, which might have been taken from anywhere. Lance has a long string of dialogue, but he’s sitting beside the bed the entire time, and he moves very little.
I strongly believe this scene was either altered significantly or created whole-cloth for this edited version of s8.
Things that are much harder to alter, because they’d be much more expensive, are the fight scenes. It’s where I started looking once I suspected what had happened with season 8, and it’s where I started finding things.
S8e12 ‘The Zenith’ is one of the best episodes in terms of flow, and I believe that’s because it suffers some of the least editing.
We are however missing at least two scenes: a farewell between Allura and Coran - presumably as Allura boards the Blue Lion - and an explanation as to how Voltron followed Honerva into her destination reality after the rift closed on them. I believe both of these scenes were edited out because Lotor was key in them; several scenes in the following episode s8e13 ‘The End is the Beginning’ lead me to believe that he spent the final battle in the Blue Lion with Allura.
Two scenes during the fight stand out to me: the first, a split screen where Keith is mysteriously given a double width section as compared to the others. It’s especially noticeable, because he’s not even centrally placed and he’s scaled to a different size than his fellow paladins. In the entirety of the series we have never before seen a split screen cut among an even number of characters where one of them is given odd prominence like this. The screen is arranged so the characters appear in a color gradient, Keith is red-black and immediately to his left is Allura who is blue. If there was a missing section here, the color space would correspond to indigo/purple - and those are Lotor’s colors.
The second is a moment when Allura is speaking facing forwards and very clearly looks to the side and makes eye contact with someone. Now, VLD does have moments when the paladins will react in their own lions as though they can see each other, but this isn’t like that. It’s the way her eyes move, and look, she’s talking to someone who’s point of view we’re seeing her from. And that person is Lotor.
There’s also a peculiar moment in this episode where the same split screen is used twice; another thing which has never before happened in the series. It appears first about a quarter of the way through the episode as the paladins enter the stage for the final showdown and then again as they push Honerva into the glowing whiteness at its center. I believe that the second one of these is its proper place, and that the one that originally went in the first instance had Lotor included in it.
Finally, and this is going to take several images, so be warned. When the paladins appear before Honerva in the heart of it all, fading into view, they’re spaced very strangely.
There’s six of them, so you’d expect they’d be spaced something like this:
But they’re actually spaced like this:
(yes, I know Honerva would be blocking someone there. She moves. I just picked this cap so you could see all the shadows; there’s no point showing you the empty space)
It rather looks like there’s someone missing.
The last half of the final episode is so heavily manipulated that it’s difficult to say what actually happened. But we have two very strong clues from which we can reconstruct it.
Remember the leaks?
Now that we know the leaks were real, it begs the question, why was this scene one of them. Unlike the others, which were all from the epilogue, this scene is from roughly halfway through the episode.
Well, I believe we have the answer now: whoever leaked them chose those because they were the scenes they had on hand. These were the scenes that were not originally part of VLD s8, and were added only in the last minute edit.
This one in particular is another where I think it’s taken an actual scene and traced over it to make it into something else. Lance is far too tall here, and doesn’t look like himself hardly at all.
It’s also very clear from the framing of the shot where Allura is going down the line of paladins and hugging them that Lance should be getting a send off in sequence to the others, not apart like this.
No, I think Lance was animated over Lotor here, and the audio was spliced in parts from Lance’s actual goodbye scene and Allura’s “I will always love you” comes from somewhere else. That portion of the line is said in a distinctly different tone of voice than Lance’s name beforehand. There’s different emotions to it than the rest of their conversation, and I’d guarantee we’re hearing it out of it’s original context.
I don’t know what else changes in the ending, but I’m very certain that it was not supposed to be read as Allura dying.
The reason we now read it that way is that Allura and Honerva are seen greeting the spirits of people we know that are dead. I’m fairly certain this scene is either new, or it was only Honerva going to meet them, and of course, that Lotor wasn’t among them.
And I think it was Allura and Lotor who stayed behind to do the work of restoring all realities. My proof of this is one of the very best and strongest among my evidence: the very last closing shot of Voltron: Legendary Defender, after the credits.
The lions of Voltron take off to rejoin their new Cosmic Entities; Allura and Lotor. Whoever was responsible for editing Lotor out of this picture only actually slightly blurred him.
Thanks to @articianne for the outline!
If you play around with the image contrast and brightness it’s even more obvious that the both of them are there, back to back.
It only looks like Allura dies because the spirits but without them there? It looks like they ascended to a higher plane of existence or something.
They haven’t died at all. They’ve become, of all things, like Bob, the gameshow host from s7e4 ‘The Feud’. An ‘all-powerful, all-knowing interdimensional being’.
And y’know? Bob was perfectly able to interact with the paladins no problem.
I don’t understand why these changes were made. To me? This looks like a perfectly happy ending.
What else was cut I don’t know. But I found all this evidence by looking for the things that weren’t there, that a competently structured plot would lead me to expect would be. Chasing ghosts, as it were.
A short list of additional things I strongly suspect were cut?
Several scenes between Keith and Shiro.
A pivotal scene between Allura and Coran.
A follow up event with Pidge referencing her sacrificing her videogame to get Allura a dress.
A scene between Lance and Pidge, possibly referencing said videogame.
A resolution to Lance and Pidge competing to get Allura the best present.
A conclusion to Axca’s sub plot.
A Hunk and Shay scene, to explain how and why the Balmeras all show up in s8e12 ‘The Zenith’.
An additional scene with the blade for the same reasons.
Actually, y’know what? I’m not just going to leave this, because I have a strong suspicion what one of the other cut subplots was about.
You see, the other half of ‘Clear Day’ isn’t entirely filler - it’s specifically a callback to the season 2 episode ‘Space Mall’, and it’s not the only one in this season. The little shopping trip from s8e1 ‘Launch Date’ is also one. Specifically they’re part of a plot for Pidge about her feelings for Lance.
In ‘Space Mall’ Pidge and Lance spend their time scrounging up change to buy a videogame console. The game that they purchase is part of a series that Pidge later trades the only copy of the latest version of to get Allura a dress. During ‘Clear Day’ Pidge and Lance both spend their time trying to get the best present for Allura (hint hint, Pidge is the one who actually got the ‘”something sparkly”).
Now, as I’ve already covered, there’s missing content between ‘Clear Day’ and the next episode. Part of that content should have been what the other paladins were doing while Allura was unconscious. And in series, we never actually see Allura receive either of those presents that were bought for her. So where did they go?
I think Pidge and Lance spent the time waiting for Allura to wake up together, and they got to talking about how Lance has once again failed to acquire the sparkly thing Allura would like. Perhaps Pidge trades her mining helmet for Lance’s signed Blue Lion, and then it comes up how both times Lance went to get a present for Allura he ended up getting one for Pidge.
And that first time was the video game wasn’t it? A perfect place for Lance to find out what happened with the video game in s8e1.
So why did Pidge trade that game? To make Allura happy, yes, but also to make Lance happy. Because Lance likes Allura and Pidge wants them to have a good time, because Pidge likes Lance. Like, check e1 when Allura tells her she's going on a date with Lance, Pidge's reaction... isn't really a happy one.
I think this should have been the turning point for Lance, where he learns the difference between infatuation and sincere affection. I think very soon after this his relationship with Allura would end, and he would naturally progress into a different sort of relationship with Pidge.
As much as I love s8e7 ‘Day Forty-Seven’ I don’t think it was originally part of season 8. I also get the feeling that s7e2 ‘Shadows’ may be composed of scenes we were supposed to have gotten throughout the later half of season seven - though I expect that this change was made in a much earlier spate of edits, likely when s7 was re-done. It’s been confirmed that this happened, and that s7e4 ‘The Feud’ was made to ease the pressure on the exhausted animators who’d been working overtime to get the other episodes done in time. It’s never been confirmed what exactly was changed about season 7 or why, but I highly suspect it was to include more content with the MFE fighters, who the higher ups at Dreamworks might have been hoping to spin off into a sequel.
I suspect that the episodes were shifted forwards, because the first half of the season has no 'event' episode. s8e6 ‘Genesis’ should have been that, and what we're missing is the mid-season event. Which was where they would have saved Lotor. They excised an entire climactic fight between Allura and Honerva, reprising their battle from season 2. The alchemist vs alchemist fight that was repeatedly alluded to being inevitable, yet we never got.
It was animated and voiced to be Lotura and Lotor's vindication.
But someone wanted that changed.
We know when and why ‘The Feud’ was created, and because we were teased in several interviews to pay attention to it so that we might spot some foreshadowing, we can definitively say that the mucking around that was done to season 8 happened at a much later date.
In fact, the animation portion was likely completed all the way back in June. These are two bumper images that were used to advertise Season 6, which released on June 15th.
We haven’t yet seen this image of Lotor appear in the show (for what it matters, the full color one is the correct way around; Lotor’s hair always curls up over his right shoulder, the left can go either way), we have scoured every frame of him to find it, but it’s just not there (yes I know it looks like it should be from s5e4 ‘Kral Zera’, but trust me it’s not). Every other image that’s ever been used in these promotional bumpers has been from somewhere in the show, but this one is so far absent. Therefore it’s from a piece of animation yet to appear, and one which was made by the time these images showed up in June.
Now that we know what the truth is, I am sure we will get the full story eventually. It's only a matter of time before it filters out.
But right now is the key time if we want to convince Dreamworks to release the original season 8. Tweet at them, email them, snail mail if you have the time! Sign that petition!
The fandom response now will determine if we find out what really happened sooner rather than later - and later could mean years.
We are the only people who can make this happen. The cast and crew are all bound by NDAs, and publicly reacting negatively towards a show you worked on is practically career suicide.
It has historically been fans who’ve made a difference when companies interfere with their favorite shows. Fans have been able to effect change in the past, and they will again in the future; lets make sure this is one of those times. We need to fight to get the VLD we should have gotten in the first place.
Just remember to apply your energies in the right places. JDS and LM aren’t perfect people (no one is!), but this isn’t their doing. This is someone above them responsible for the mess that was s8. Dreamworks Animation is the culprit. There is a very real chance that the original season 8 is completely finished and able to be released, and we just might get it if we’re persistent enough.
Be polite, be reasonable, but be firm. Take this proof and use it. Show them that we know they changed things and that they can give us the original if they so choose.
The messages they inadvertently pushed with this slap-dash edit are vile and toxic, and people far more knowledgeable than I in those areas are speaking out about them. This needs to be fixed.
They need to say something. They need to tell us why they changed it. They need to give us the original Season 8.

I, and any of you who enjoyed this meta, owe @nomadicism a huge thank you. She reminded me of that strange "Follow me!" scene, which prompted me to crack open 'Clear Day' for another watch... and I realized that Allura's dreams weren't nonsensical at all.
As always, thank you to my many friends in the Lotura Discord. You give me the strength and encouragement to keep going. I couldn’t have done this without you.

Hey rosy, got a question. How would you personally rate each season based only on bellarke's dynamic?
I don’t know if I can simply do a rating for each one. But let’s try and see what happens.Season One. 6/10. enemies to friends to...crush. They pulled out before the lovers. Can stand on its own and still be a relatively satisfying story. Not really a love story though. If you take it as a “platonic” relationship, it’s 10/10. SO. 6/10 romance. 10/10 platonic partners. As the beginning of a love story, though it’s not bad. It’s got some good set up. I just can’t rate it for that until I get the end of the story in season 7.
Season Two. 9/10 the most addictive of seasons. This is the one that got me. TRAGIC ROMANCE. No Happy Ever After. They start out separate, are surprised about how overjoyed they are to get each other back, start feeling the feels. Oblique love confessions. Devotion. Love’s a weakness. She was being weak. A separation driven by the essential misunderstanding that was based on how she was protecting her heart from love and HE thought it meant she didn’t love him. KILL ME. Then Clarke’s OBSESSION with Bellamy and keeping him safe and having faith and the reunion where he says “Together” and takes part of the burden. Ending in her leaving. Had me falling to my knees. GREAT. HORRIBLE. HOW DARE THEY. THIS FINALE RUINED ME. 9/10 for romantic pain. No HEA. This story should not be like this but I signed up for it so.... i will suffer and I will like it.
Season Three. 7/10. they spend too much time apart even though the time they spend together is ALL romantic and/or heart breaking and/or powerfully significant. The love they feel for each other is PALPABLE and still tragic, with the trauma and grief getting in the way. Hakeldama itself rates as a 10/10. The finale is 8/10 because they are coming back together as a relationship. TOGETHER.
Season 4. 8/10 The romance here was actually pretty solid and serious and continuous. They continue to be afraid and doubtful, and they spent those episodes apart for no reason, or for plot reasons having nothing to do with the topic at hand. This loses points for lack of romantic and narrative tension. Sometimes it seemed like there was no reason for them not to be together. YOu see the reasons but they don’t seem that important in the face of the end of the world. They treated them as if they were a married couple already, without allowing them to take the next step, despite narrative declarations and attempts to move forward than one or the other of them stops in their tracks. And ending as it did with them separated, gosh darn it. You suck. HOWEVER they are redeemed some with that 2199 radio calls revealed in the end. It would be a lower score for lack of forward momentum except the finale had them *this* close to getting together, they both felt it, and then yoinked it away, only to replace it with 6 years of distance and Clarke canonically in love with him.
Season 5. 9/10. In an unpopular judgment, I actually think season 5 was WAY romantic. It makes Bellarke the subject of the plot. Clarke is canon in love with Bellamy. Bellamy is living his life with Clarke INSIDE of his heart. The introduction of the C/B/E love triangle is, to me, confirmation that they are treating Bellarke as romantic, not platonic. The freaking JEALOUSY we see when Clarke catches them kissing? *chefs kiss.* The fandom hate for B/E obscures the romantic nature of the story. EVERYTHING is about reuniting Clarke and Bellamy (or the blakes) even the valley battle is about Clarke coming to terms with what she did, who she’s become and how she still loves Bellamy and can’t betray him. The Clecho scene is nearly as important as Hakeldama. And Clarke’s face when she realized Bellamy really was the hero she always thought him to be in those long 6 years? Still in love. He is her hero. She can’t have him, even though he was her imaginary boyfriend, but she’ll take him any way she can get him. And then to end the finale with half an episode TOTALLY about bellarke. *chefs kiss* again. Cementing their soulmate relationship. 9/10.
Season 6. 10 out of fucking 10. HE BROUGHT HER BACK TO LIFE WITH HOW MUCH HE NEEDED HER. ok but that’s jumping ahead. Remember when we got the first two episodes leaked and we were all like OMG ITS SO ROMANTIC? Well those two episodes definitely not the most romantic of the season. They bonded all “non romantic” and Clarke was begging him to forgive her and they were back on the same team, yes, but Bellamy was holding back and then that straight up love triangle scene of Bellamy being jealous of Clarke with Cillian and then MAD that Echo wasn’t Clarke? Fanfiction. Total fanfiction. But there’s really nothing that we can compare to Bellamy deciding that he needed to go save Clarke, on his own. I was totally expecting her rescue to be a team thing, but it was most definitely not. It was about BELLAMY and his feelings for Clarke, again and again brought to the front by Josephine. Comparing their relationship to Josephine and Gabriel. Calling her back from death because he can’t lose her, the way she looks at him when she wakes up, how soft they are with each other afterwards, the care they give each other. And then after it’s all over, ending on that hug in the buttery light. Pure romance. This is a 10/10 with no points off because it developed fantastic romantic tension and left us KNOWING that this story is not over yet and they are DEFINITELY together, but we are still wondering how the technicality of his other girlfriend will be resolved. So, like season 1 is a great start to romance that isn’t over yet, season 6 is a great opening of the RESOLUTION of the romance that is coming to a head. All the people who thought this season wasn’t romantic and JR hates Bellarke and us the fans, they are OUT OF THEIR MIND. S6 was a blatant love story, a romance story, romance genre in the apocalypse. Clarke and Bellamy’s love for each other was THE MAIN STORY.

The 100?
Thank you Nonnie!!! :)
Top 5 favourite characters:
Echo / Emori / Raven / Murphy / Octavia
Other characters you like:
A lot, actually! Off the top of my head, Lexa, Clarke (although not in the way most people like her, I enjoy her as an anti-hero lmao), Bellamy, Monty, Jasper, Lincoln, Indra!
Least favourite characters:
Aside from the obvious villains obviously, I’m gonna say Kane and Abby. I never really cared for their stories, I’ve hated Abby since season 1 and Kane since s5 there’s just something about them being absolutely awful leaders and blaming kids for their failures that I can’t get behind.
Otps:
Basically lmao.
No but seriously, I think their love story is just great on so many levels, they’re the only love story I really care about in the show.
Other couples I really like are: Bellamy and Echo, Octavia and Lincoln, Octavia and Niylah, Octavia and Diyoza, Murphy and Emori and Raven, Echo and Raven, Jasper and Maya, Monty and Harper
Notps:
..... Bellarke lmao.
I enjoy the dynamic between Bellamy and Clarke, but I never saw it as romantic, and that’s how I enjoyed it. I love their ennemies to reluctant allies dynamic, I love the fact that their relationship is dysfunctional I love the parallels between Clarke and Octavia. But I don’t enjoy it at all as a romantic dynamic.
Favourite friendships:
Monty and Jasper, Octavia and Jasper, Raven and Murphy
Favourite family:
This is almost only found family because this show has a ton of found family dnamics that I love!! The Blake siblings, Spacekru, Octavia Diyoza and Hope, Raven and Finn.
Favourite episodes:
Murphy’s Law, Blood Must have Blood part 1 and part 2, Thirteen, The Chosen, Pramfayia, Red Queen, The Garden
Favourite season/book/movie:
Season 2. It has my favorite version of Lexa, it has Bellamy and Echo meeting, it has the most interesting antagonists (in my opinion haha). Season 4 is a close second though!
Favourite quotes:
“You believe that to defeat an ennemy who will stop at nothing, you must stop at nothing. How is that any different than Blood must have Blood?” - Luna in s3, because I think this quote shows very well the central conflict of the show, one that was established by Finn in s1: We have to try not to repeat history, and yet everytime, they do repeat it. I disagree with Luna in that instance because the threat that was ALI wasn’t like any other, but I agree with her sentiment.
“In peace, may you leave this shore. In love, may you find the next. Safe passage on your travels. Until our final journey to the Ground. May we meet again.” LISTEN. If there’s is one thing of the world building I absolutely adore, it’s the Traveler’s Blessing. It’s a beautiful prayer, and it gives me all the right emotions when I think about it. I was disappointed with what the show was making of it in seasons 2 and 3, with characters saying it all around, but then there are two instances that really get to me: Octavia and Bellamy saying it over the dead radio at the end of s4, and Monty / Bellamy and Clarke saying it at the end of season 5.
Best musical moment:
I loved the way the music carried the scene right after Lexa’s death, how it melts from Lexa’s death and Titus saying his ritual words, to Becca reaching earth, back to Lexa and the Flame coming out of her.
Moment that made you fangirl/boy the hardest:
Oh boy there are a LOT Off the top of my head: when Monty refuses to leave Jasper alone when he gives his blood to Maya, when Murphy says “Touch me again and I’ll end you... in a non-criminal way”, when Becho was confirmed in s5, When Clarke managed to align the satellite dish in Pramfyia, when Octavia confronted Skaikru in The Chosen,.... I can’t think of others right now but there are a lot lmao You can check out my favorite scenes series if you want, I’m working on it slowly!
When it really disappointed you:
A lot of times, honestly... I’m gonna say, all of season 6. I hated it. It had so much potential, with characters having to deal with the aftermath of season 5, Monty and Harper dying, Jordan existing, Wonkru.... Instead we got a whole mess that didn’t do much for any character and I was really disappointed.
Saddest moment:
Lincoln’s death. I knew it was coming because I knew the actor was leaving the show, but I was so NOT READY for it omg it’s the scene I still cry everytime I watch it because it’s so sad and heartwrenching....
Most well done character death:
Okay so I think The 100 is really bad at having well done character deaths, so I’m gonna say my less well-done one lmaoooo
Lexa’s. Her death was so stupid. I wasn’t in the fandom at the time so I wasn’t aware of the awful queerbaiting that was going on, so without talking about BTS and marketing ploys, I do believe that her death was heavily predicted by the show. However, it was a stupid death and Lexa was too awesome a character to die by a stray bullet. She deserved a proper send-off, she deserved to die in an epic battle, or fighting for what she believed in,..... not a bullet.
Favourite guest star:
I know Shawn Mendes (Mendez? I don’t know lmao i don’t know him) was a guest star but I don’t know any other guest star so I guess that’s my answer lmao
Favourite cast member:
I don’t follow the cast, so I don’t have a favorite xD
Character you wish was still alive:
Jasper and Finn both deserve to still be alive, because the show treated their mental struggles like shit and I’m very bitter about that!
One thing you hope really happens:
Honestly, I don’t know? We have four episodes left of the entire show and I have no idea where it’s headed lmao I guess I hope both Emori and Murphy survive to see the end and have a long and happy life <3
Most shocking twist:
Okay I actually have three so I’ll you my top three:
1- The revelation of the Mountain Men. I was absolutely NOT expecting this to happen and I was gasping and going “nooooooooo way!!!” at my computer because it was so out of nowhere!! I loved it lmao
2- Murphy discovers that ALI destroyed the world: the ending of s2. That scene is so chilling, Murphy watching the video of Chris crying and killing himself, cut with scenes of Jaha getting to the mansion and the wholse scene with ALI herself... that whole scene was really cool and unexpected!
3- Clarke and Jaha steal the bunker during the conclave. I was so SHOOK by this moment, it was such a bold move and I loved it!
When did you start watching/reading?:
Early January, 2015. I was back at my appartment waiting for the semester to start, my roommates weren’t back from the holidays yet, and I was bored. So I started the show, and I binged all of season 1 and half of season 2 in 24 hours xD I caught up at Spacewalker, and then had to wait two weeks for the next episode to air and it was agony!!!!
Best animal/creature:
HELIOS THE BEST HORSE THERE IS
Favourite location:
The Second Dawn Bunker. Yeah I know it’s strange coming from me because I absolutely hate so many things about the bunker xD But it was such a cool location!! With the rotunda/arena, the farm, the huge corridors,.....
Trope you wish they would stop using:
“It’s the end of the world, whatever shall we do???” I’m just tired you guys. Nuclear apocalypses and other bombings should not be that common lmao
One thing this show/book/film does better than others:
I love the fact that it has so many different and well developped female characters. It shouldn’t be rare, but it still is, and this show really stands out to me for that reason. I’m not saying it’s the peak of feminism or anything because lmao IT’S NOT. But the women of the show have agency, freedom, they’re all distinct from one another and not just tropes and cliches. I really like it.
Funniest moments:
Nothing comes to mind right now? I feel like an idiot lmao I have so many moments that make me laugh and I can’t think of a single one right now x)
Couple you would like to see:
I would love to have canon Murphy x Emori x Raven!!
Actor/Actress you want to join the cast:
Nobody haha sorry
Favourite outfit:
Blodreina’s cape thingy!
Favourite item:
Raven’s necklace!!! I’m actually hoping to make myself one someday, it’s my favorite thing ^^
Do you own anything related to this show/book/film?:
Nothing!
What house/team/group/friendship group/family/race etc would you be in?:
I wish I could be spacekru haha they’re the best found family of the whole show and we deserved a flashback episode for them <3
Most boring plotline:
the entirety of season 6 xDDDDD
No but seriously, I’m gona say Illian’s plot. Honestly I never got into it at all, I didn’t care enough about him, or his family.
Most laughably bad moment:
I mean, the pilot is pretty cringe-worthy xD
Best flashback/flashfoward if any:
the flashbacks of the Dark Year.
Most layered character:
Octavia
Most one dimensional character:
Jordan lmao I was so disappointed with his story in s6.....
Scariest moment:
OMG in season 2 when Bellamy, Octavia and the guards go into the old parking garage and CAROL OF THE BELLS START PLAYING THAT WAS SO FUCKING CREEPY
Grossest moment:
Ewwww the whole worm thing happening in s5, AND the weird trees growing inside people in s6 xD
Best looking male:
S5 Murphy, hands down. Also s7 Murphy cause he spends half his time shirtless lmao
Best looking female:
Emori! She’s so pretty.
Who you’re crushing on (if any):
I mean everybody is gorgeous but I don’t have a particular fixation haha
Favourite cast moment:
I don’t watch interviews or BTS stuff so I don’t know much, but Richard Harmon wearing hie sister’s costume and wig was really funny ^^
Favourite transportation:
Becca’s rocket
Most beautiful scene (scenery/shot wise):
It’s very obvious symbolism, but I love the last shot of Blood must have blood part 1, with Clarke standing alone in front of the door of Mount Weather.
Also, Octavia forcing the clans into submission in Red Queen, the mini conclave in fron of the doors of the vafeteria. The shots in that scene were really good!
Unanswered question/continuity issue/plot error that bugs you:
Lmaooooooo do you have ten hours? Because that’s how long I can ramblr about the inconsistencies and plotholtes of this show x) Off the top of my head:
- Why does everybody on the Ark speak Enlighs?
- If Becca knew Nightblood could let you live on Earth then why didn’t she distribute it among the space stations?
- Why did Cadogan build the bunker in the middle of the city when he had a prefectly good FOREST??
- If Lexa is the first Commander to unite the clans then what was the role of the Commander before her?
- Why didn’t the Ark send one adult with the 100 (Pyke) to protect and help them?
- How come the Eligius IV prisoners don’t die when they come back to Earth in s5 since they have no nightblood and didn’t adapt through evolution?
- How is it that Spacekru survived with algea alone but Wonkru had to have this huge variety of plants?? WHAT’S THE MAGIC ALGEA MONTY???
- Why did Mount Weather crash the Exodus ship?
- If the ressources on the Ark are so scarce then why would they float people with clothes on them?
- How come Raven could visit Finn in prison but Bellamy couldn’t visit Octavia?? If Octavia was in solitary, why?
...... Okay i’m gonna stop for now lmao but I could write an entire memoir on the inconsistencies of this show lmao
Best promo:
That one:
At what point did you fall in love with this show/book:
I’m thinking Murphy’s Law? The first few episodes were a little too teenage-drama for me but this episode shifted my opinion enough to get me to keep watching ^^

The 100 season 7 Fandom Panic Attacks
Hi everyone! I am a recent t100 fan after binge watching all 6 seasons in 1 go. I am really excited for season 7 & the conclusion of the story.
I have been following the social media now to keep on top of the show news. This means to follow discussions, speculations & reactions. This has revealed one thing to me. Thank god I wasn't a part of the fandom since the start!!!
The fandom gets in a tizzy over each & every non consequential thing. The leaps that they make in speculations is so high, it's literally in the anomaly! Every one can make predictions & speculate on the storyline but at least have a solid reason for flying off the handle.
Clarke & Bellamy are my two absolute favourite charactersin the show & I am definitely a Bellarke shipper. But please can the fandom use their intelligence before crying about anything & everything.
Bellamy new scenes are not in trailer- Bellamy is dead.
No Bellarke scenes- no Bellarke endgame
Clarke angry scenes- Clarke is acting like Mad queen
Clarke- Gaia scenes- Romantic interest
What the hell & today people are panicking over Tasya's countdown pic that since her lower half is hidden, echo is pregnant!!!
The 1st 4 episode reviews hinting that Bellamy's storyline is about saving Octavia & Bellarke not being together in the 4 episodes- Oh no! Same old Blake sibling shit, same old Bellamy running behind Octavia. Bellarke won't be together romantically since not enough time together....
This is such bullshit.
I don't know what everyone's relationship is like with their siblings but think logically. If your sibling who has been the center of your world since birth, about whom you are protective & deeply care for, with whom you are not on good terms currently, gets stabbed & disappears from right within your arms, won't you be upset? Won't you try & do everything possible to find them? Then why is Bellamy not allowed the same courtesy? He should what- go about his merry way after losing his sister?
Second point regarding Bellarke that Bellarke won't get enough time to be together romantically. Aren't people following the story for 6 seasons. Bellamy & Clarke relationship has been developed since season 1 to 6. Even if they get together in the second half of the 7 th season, it would make sense & I trust the writers who have definitely broght their relationship to the brink of undeniable romance last season, to make their romance organic.
Also I don't think the number of episodes they stay together in one place matters. The writers have developed their relationship as the one which is transcending distance & time. Here is the breakdown of how many episodes were they actually together for each season:
S1: 11 out of 13. 1 epi they spent apart & in the 1st epi they met each for 1st time.
S2: 5 out of 16. 11 epis they spent apart & in 5 epis they were just communicating over radio.
S3: 6 out of 16. 10 epis they spent apart & in 3 epis they had 1 brief scene.
S4: 8 out of 13. 4 epis they spent apart & in 1 epi they had 1 brief scene.
S5: 6 out of 13. 5 epis they spent apart & in 2 epis they had 1 brief scene.
S6: 7 out of 13. 4 epis they spent apart & in 2 epis they had scenes via Josephine-Clarke.
So apart from S1 they have been together in the story plotline for only half or less than half the season. Still we have got such great development in their relationship. So why so much panic if they are not in same frame for half of the season 7? We do know for sure that Clarke would be going to the anomaly to get back Bellamy & Octavia, so Bellamy will be on her mind for all the beginning epis as well. Bellamy also might think about Clarke in those epis if he is in those epis for major time. If he himself is not in any scenes except for initially entering anomaly, then we might be getting less Bellamy in the 1st 4 epis but 12 more episodes are still pending.
So just chill, speculate & rewatch t100 episodes until we get the episodes & understand the story plotlines after initial episodes. This unnecessary panic & crying over no reason before the episodes even air is just off putting. Enjoy yourself & let others also enjoy!!!!
#t100#season 7#bellamy blake#bellamy x clarke#just enjoy#do not cry#fandom woes#take a chill pill#don't panic

(wrong opinion anon 😁) Don't worry I'm not offended, I would've responded in the same way if I felt the way you do. I guess the hug was just too short for me idk. I'm used to the clinging hugs from Bellarke lol
You’re definitely not the only person feeling that way, there were some replies on the ask you sent agreeing with you. And I don’t know that I can convince you or anyone else otherwise, because I know once people have an opinion, they tend to be firmly set in it, but I can still at least share with y’all why I am loving Bellarke this season.
It could get lengthy, so I’m going to throw it under a cut.
I figure this is a good place to start. “They’ll come around.” This was the first thing that hooked me with Bellarke this season. Because not even ten minutes into the first episode, we get confirmation that Bellamy himself has already come around. And there are clearly still hurt feelings there (on both ends), but he’s the one person who doesn’t need convincing to forgive Clarke. He does it like it’s second nature. Forgiveness is their thing. (Which is implied further by the BE scene later in 6x01.)
This next. We’ve never gotten to see Bellarke smile at each other like this. E V E R. And don’t get me wrong, I love Bellarke smiles, but they’re usually muted, understated things that make light of a dark situation. Like, “Some medicine would be nice.” or “You distract him, I’ll shoot him.” or “Mama bears don’t think.” They know they’re fucked, so they joke about it. The closest one to how big and wide these smiles are is We Will Rise, when Clarke and Bellamy almost crash the rover, but that’s a smile of pure relief. They aren’t smiling just for the heck of it.
These smiles are special because they don’t need an instigator from an outside source. It’s not relief, or fear that’s causing them to smile at each other. It’s just the two of them. And just to paint the broader picture, they talk about the radio calls here. You know, what we were waiting for all of Season 5 and didn’t get a semblance of anything close to it until 5x13? Yeah, that was addressed in the first episode. And we know that after four episodes, it’s still not done being talked about. It keeps coming up because it’s imperative to Bellarke’s relationship.
This is a little more subtle, but the keys were a detail I loved. Clarke kept Bellamy’s key. Clarke. Why not Echo, arguably the person he should trust the most on the planetary exploring mission? She’s his girlfriend and he lived with her six years. Same goes for Emori, minus the girlfriend part, but he should explicitly trust her. Okay, but they weren’t in the same room and we’re going to ignore the implications entirely of why Bellamy and Clarke had to be stuck in the same room even though that’s even more proof of the writers feeding us. But what about Murphy? Again, six years in space. Bellamy is the one to continually tell him he isn’t useless, to have faith in Murphy. But when it boils down to it, he gives Clarke his key. Clarke, who left him in the pits. He still, after everything, trusts her more than anyone.
Now, I’ve gone over this more in depth before, but Red Sun Rising including the line “I don’t need you anymore” from Bellamy to Clarke was extremely telling. I don’t want to rehash the whole thing here, but you can read that meta if you want at this link. The synopsis is that the eclipse-induced psychosis prays on fears, like Clarke’s fear of losing Madi or Emori’s fear of being heartbroken by Murphy. Bellamy says he doesn’t need Clarke because he’s afraid that he does, and she left him in the pits. If he needs her again, he’s afraid she’ll break his heart again. And just look at her face, she’s terrified, even before the toxin hits her, that he’ll break her heart. She wants to be able to be there for him.
“We’ll bring Madi back. I promise.” Now, we’ve gotten a lot of focus on Clarke leaving Bellamy in the pits, but weirdly none on Bellamy chipping Clarke’s daughter. This was the rectification for that. They threw in an exact parallel to 5x08/9, except this time, Bellamy keeps his promise. And it means the world to Clarke. She can finally trust him fully again.
The separated Bellarke for just one episode. Not a longer separation like it usually is when one of them leaves. Suspiciously, Clarke gets a big dress reveal while Bellamy is not there to react. ‘Nuff said.
Now, before we even get into the hug, let’s dissect this conversation. Bellamy has - from episode 1 of S6 - already made it clear he’s willing to move past Clarke’s S5 mistakes. But Clarke still feels the need to atone because she’s that distraught about leaving Bellamy behind. She wrote it on her lantern. Yes, a girl who has committed/helped commit multiple mass murders to protect her people regrets nothing more than leaving behind a boy who didn’t even die. And Bellamy, bless his soul, wants to avoid this conversation like the plague. This whole episode has a focus on Bellamy being confused about how he feels and it starts with this conversation. We haven’t seen Bellamy express any confusion about his feelings this season until after Clarke tries to apologize and hugs him. A catalyst for Bellamy to have deeper thoughts? Maybe.
And Clarke says “You’re too important to me.” She admits it. She calls him family, something he actively excluded her from last season. This triggers something in Bellamy, because he’s gotten used to keeping Clarke at a distance and protecting himself because he thought she didn’t care. And, of course, the radio calls proved that she did, but that was before he came back. It doesn’t have to mean anything. But now, she’s admitted he means something to her in the present, the current moment. And he’s confused as fuck about it.
Now, let’s actually analyze that hug shall we? You’re on the money, it’s shorter than usual, but I don’t think that’s necessarily bad in context. Because this hug, as beautiful as it is, is unnecessary. They’re hugging just because they can. Think about it. Other Bellarke hugs have a catalyst. A reunion: 2x05 - the running hug, 5x04 - the “And now you’re home hug.” A comfort: 4x13 - Clarke doesn’t get the chance to say goodbye to Abby. A forgiveness: 3x13 - Bellamy agrees to move on, to grant himself and Clarke forgiveness.
But isn’t this a forgiveness hug, too? No! As I’ve mentioned, Bellamy already forgave Clarke. This entire conversation is initiated on Clarke’s end to give her peace of mind about what she did, it just so happens to stir up confusing emotions in Bellamy. But it’s not the monumental forgiveness of 3x13 because Bellamy hasn’t been angry with her since they got to Sanctum. He forgave her in 5x13.
And just the body language- Clarke does her signature smile of relief while hugging Bellamy. Bellamy looks confused then relaxes into it, relieved, furthering the narrative he doesn’t quite know how to feel when it comes to Clarke.
Now, this is the one I’m going to give a point to you for not being sure it’s romantic. I can see how this one, more than the others, is confusing. This isn’t seething-with-rage jealousy. I’ve discussed with with some other and it’s miserable jealousy. I think it’s mixed with Bellamy’s confusion, he doesn’t want to see Clarke dancing with another man and he doesn’t know why, he just knows it makes him sad.
Right after this, we get the B/E fight and Bellamy snapping at E/cho. His reasons are Monty, Harper, and Octavia. But none of those situations are immediately relevant. What is relevant? What is the ONLY other thing we’ve seen in this scene? Clarke dancing. Bellamy admits that he has no clue how he feels and he says it’s about Monty, Harper and Octavia, but why now? Why in the club only after he’s seen Clarke dancing with someone else?
And I’d be wary about this too, because when I first watched, I wasn’t even sure his line of vision matched up with her. How could we know he was watching her? Upon rewatching multiple times and the flashing between Clarke dancing and Bellamy watching, plus the way the camera pans, it’s clear he’s watching her dance.
All of this and more is why I’m loving Bellarke this season. And I understand frustration that it’s not like the early days because it isn’t. It can’t be. Season 5 wrecked them to a point I thought it could even be beyond repair, but Season 6 is showing that it can still be repaired. They’re not going to immediately fall back into pre-Praimfaya patterns because they’re not those people anymore. But the feelings, the care is still there and THAT is what Season 6 is showing.
Yes, there’s an emphasis on reconciliation and forgiveness, and addressing feelings because it’s necessary. Without it, they’re back where they were in Season 5, not understanding who the other person is after such a long time. They’re falling back into sync this season, not just with their feelings, but also as coleaders, which we see in Clarke being a representative for their people and in the way they lead in 6x02, giving each other their keys.
And what am I most excited about now? Bellamy’s gonna lose her again. I know that sounds bleak. But Bellamy’s focus on confused feelings in 6x04 are setting this up. He’s gonna know exactly how he feels when he loses Clarke again. He doesn’t want to accept the feelings he has for her (proven in 6x02), he wants to be in denial (6x04). But when he loses her again, he’ll know. Josephine!Clarke is going to bring out that Season 1 Bellamy, where a switch will flip and he’ll do whatever it takes to get Clarke back, consequences be damned, the same as he’d do it for Octavia in Season 1. I’m thrilled about the direction this season is going.
To anyone who’s not: that’s okay! You don’t have to be. I hope you can enjoy the show for what it is. I think this - all of it - is relationship setup and romantic setup, but hey, that’s just me.

I don't mean to 'dog pile' but your recent discussions on s9 has brought up one of my few real peevs on the show. I recognize that the show has declared that without his Grace, Cas is human. I don't like it, but I understand that to be the case. But it doesn't make any sense? In s6 Cas says to Crowley, "I'm an angel you ass, I don't have a soul." And yet without his Grace he apparently has one? I go with it because that's what the show has declared even if i don't think it makes sense. Oh well!
Disclaimer for everyone who is not li-izumi and is reading this feeling sort of vaguely confused… I got this message yesterday, and had a very limited time to reply before having to run out and Adult™, but I sent a bunch of links to past things I’d written, which can all be found in my tags:
https://mittensmorgul.tumblr.com/tagged/angels%20and%20souls/chrono
and
https://mittensmorgul.tumblr.com/tagged/on%20the%20nature%20of%20angel%20grace/chrono
there’s some overlap between those two tags, but almost everything i’ve ever written about the subject is in there… I say “almost” because tumblr refuses to organize tags out beyond, I believe, the 5th tag, so if I rambled in the tags and then stuck the grace tags on at the end, it won’t filter into these searches… sorry… I did, however, put all the contents I had in these tags as of December 2018 into this ao3 post, which might be easier to read through, or might be more difficult to read through, and doesn’t include anything I’ve written after 12/2018…
https://archiveofourown.org/works/17019936
There’s also my tag for “Cas vs Humanity,” where I talk about all of this from another direction:
https://mittensmorgul.tumblr.com/tagged/you%20learned%20it%20from%20the%20goats/chrono
And for further reference, this is regarding the long back and forth I had with zerbe yesterday, here:
https://mittensmorgul.tumblr.com/post/190817337615/i-was-rewatching-s9-and-i-reached-the-ep-where-cas
I was originally gonna reply to this privately, but I think I did a fair job summing up my core thoughts on this in just a few paragraphs, so I’m posting it here as a sort of tl;dr for everything linked above… :’D
OKAY, NOW ON TO THE ACTUAL REPLY!
***
I don’t know if everything from that post back and forth with zerbe answered your question or just gave you more… or if any of those links I through at you in the chatbubbles yesterday helped…
But one more thing, which I’m not sure was included in any of those linked posts or not, but is something I know I’ve talked about in the past, including as recently as 14.19 when Jack was turning humans into angels, is the commonalities between angelic grace and human souls.
My theory since s4, since we first met Anna, has been that there is a core to the being of an angel that encompasses their “personalities,” for lack of a better word, and their thoughts and memories… and that this kernel of being is the “identity” of an angel separate from the “power pack” of the grace that encompasses their “mojo.”
The fact that Anna still could hear angel radio and was eventually able to access her memories of having been an angel even though she’d cut out her grace and literally been born as a human, with a human soul, was all the proof I personally needed that despite everything else they are, angels do have a nascent or primordial seed of a human soul within themselves that they can literally choose to nurture or not. And Cas, by his choices, has been nurturing that part of himself since s4.
And when Cas had the “power pack” portion of his grace cut out by Metatron, he wasn’t left “soulless,” in comparison to every other example we have of a soulless person on the entire run of the series. He was perhaps even MORE overwhelmed by his own human feelings than at any other time in his history on the show. His personality, memories, his preferences and emotional engagement with life, and the essential core of his identity wasn’t extracted when his grace was. So what was left? The show seems to be actively begging us to consider this, especially when Metatron stated directly that he believed he’d left Cas with the equivalent of a human soul in 8.23.
Cas had no wings, no “mojo,” but he had his entire personality, all his memories, everything that comprised his fundamental identity… but no grace.
The show has contrasted this by demonstrating the other way an angel can inhabit and then leave a human vessel– as that glowing cloud of grace– that incorporates all these “personality traits” and memories, etc. into the grace cloud. So clearly, that portion of an angel’s grace is somehow not the same thing as the “mojo” portion.
That leaves us to question what exactly Cas was at that point, and because of all of his other actions and choices during that time, the only reasonable conclusion I could personally arrive at was that yes, that was the equivalent of a human soul.
I mentioned Jack converting human souls into angels in 14.19, because before when I’d mentioned my theory of grace as stated above, folks countered or dismissed my theory because it apparently didn’t work in the other direction, of the potential for a human soul to have this “mojo power pack” grafted on to it, to make a human into an angel. But this is exactly what Jack did, so I feel even more content with my personal theory about what angel grace actually is, and how it functions, and how at the very center of every angel is this kernel of potential to nurture their very own human soul.
OH! And after going back and writing the long intro into this post and considering how the heck to actually tag this thing, I feel it’s important to also mention that 6.20, where Cas delivered that “I don’t have a soul” line, was written by Ben Edlund, who also wrote 5.14, wherein under the influence of Famine, Cas developed a craving for burgers that, in episode, he deflected HARD and blamed his sudden craving for red meat on Jimmy, on his vessel… but I always ALWAYS have read the fact he turned away, broke eye contact with Dean when he made that statement, as a direct deflection, as him deliberately handwaving the fact that Cas himself was “becoming more and more human” during s5, culminating with the near-complete loss of his powers by the time he wakes up in the hospital in 5.21 and could no longer deny the fact that he’d lost his angelic powers.
And for those who require Authorial Intent as proof of things like this, that’s essentially what Edlund said he was attempting to prove with that line.

“I always reserve in Castiel’s overall makeup the fact that there is an aspect of him that is purely flesh and purely human, which can function as it did in an episode before as a real Achilles’ heel, when he started to eat meat, because he just loved red meat. He couldn’t stop himself.”— Ben Edlund (May 6, 2011) in Supernatural’s “Cliffhanger Is Deeply Involved With Castiel’s Fate” (via justanotheridijiton)
I wrote in far more detail on that episode, and what it implied about Cas himself, right here:

Bellarke 6x01 & 6x02 thoughts
This is based on my memory because the links I used are down now (if anyone has new ones, pass ‘em along) For non-spoilers, here’s some thoughts/metas done pre-season 6:
Here’s one of my first ones, completely pre-s6
Or how Bellamy and Clarke are both “parents” which is why Bell forgives her [this is relevant to something in 6x01 that i discuss below]
And how Bellamy truly believed Clarke was dead and why it is super important
Their unspoken I love yous
And how Clarke spares Echo’s life because of Bellamy
SPOILERS AHEAD OF COURSE
Ok. so I’ve seen a lot of bitching about Bellarke being dead after the first two episodes and guys, I don’t think we’re watching the same show.
Normally I’d include gifs but the links are down soooo here goes from memory + my commentary.
6x01
Everyone gives Clarke shit but Bellamy and Echo stick up for her. I think this is important because Echo really has no reason to be good to Clarke. She left her boyfriend to die in Polis and tried to kill her. YET here we are. Why? My theory is that Echo knows that Bellamy loves Clarke and if it comes down to choosing E or C, she’s not confident he’ll choose her. So she isn’t going to consciously pit herself against C.
When they come off the ship, Bell & Clarke are at the front with Echo in the background between them looking particularly annoyed.
He says we go “together” but then something clicks and he clarifies - “all of us”
Then he comforts her when Zeke is a shit. “They’ll come around. Don’t fall behind.”
you’re us. You’re one of us. And I’ll protect you.
During the Be/cho cuddle scene, the focus of the scene is still mostly on Clarke and B doesn’t look super in love with Ec/ho.
When Zeke is electrocuted and Clarke runs in - even though she says she’s fine because she’s natblida - he screams after her to stop. His voice breaks when he thinks she’s about to get hurt.
The Zeke death scene actually seems parallel to Atom’s death (where Bellamy first softened for Clarke) but I need to rewatch it to be sure.
Something else happens in between this and the next scene I’m about to talk about but I can’t remember what it is.
the radio calls scene
First off - OMG. They’re so freaking soft. And beautiful. I love them
Ok so to start this scene, Be/cho is on some swings facing away from Clarke who is standing behind them. She quietly slips away and goes into a school. Just a minute or so later, Bellamy finds her. which means he noticed she was gone and figured out exactly where she went OR went door to door super quickly to find her because he mildly panicked. (I think it’s the former).
I believe that she walked away when Bellamy was trying to call Raven on the radio and not getting a response. Hmm....
they met in a SCHOOL and they reflected on how they wish their “kids” (O and Madi) could’ve gone to school. This goes back to my theory that they understand each other in a way no one else could (from their generation on this show) because they raised adopted children.
Then he confronts her about the calls when she mentions Raven and the radio. He apologizes for not answering her. She looks shocked - because remember she didn’t tell him. He says Madi told him. She sheepishly said it sounds crazy but he assures her it’s not. And it’s all a freaking flirt scene omg. And she’s uncomfortable with how close they’re edging to the truth so she walks away. And he kinda gives this “oh ok...” hand gesture. gifs of this last part
Check out this beautiful gif set of the conversation part of the scene by @daenerya
This was not the talk about the calls in the trailer.
Bell finds the “Red Sun Rising” book and figures out that the sun eclipse is going to cause psychosis. That’s where this (in the trailer) comes from. Echo is on the other side of him and she’s just completely cut out.
I think that’s the end for this scene since next we have Emori attacking Murphy and end scene.
6x02 (this one is going to be a little more difficult because I only watched it once and it was super late)
All right so the psychosis is obviously setting in.
They lock each other up and Bellamy has everyone’s keys but gives his to Clarke - even though Murphy was also in the room and a lot closer to him.
When they hear Miller screaming, they unlock themselves and go running. leaving Murphy.
Clarke’s psychosis is that everything is her fault and her mom tells her she’ll hurt Madi
Bellamy’s psychosis makes him attack Murphy and Clarke. He also yells at Clarke something along the lines of “in case you hadn’t noticed, I don’t need you anymore, Clarke.
which means that he’s openly admitting that he needs her. That’s not new information but continues to mean that he needs her.
Bell attacks Clarke when she tries to save Murphy and this is when she stabs his leg (superficially)
Bellamy’s psychosis causes him to choke Clarke and yell that this time it’s she that dies.
He asks her “how many times have you tried to kill me now?” before she stabs him.
“This time you die, not me.” which still does not make sense to me since she wasn’t trying to kill him and she’s never actually tried to kill him as far as I remember. Yes, I know it’s psychosis but the psychosis are rooted in existing fears it seems like.
Yes, Bellamy chokes Clarke but Emori attacks Murphy, Bell attacks Murphy, Jackson and Miller attacked each other (can’t remember which is which). It’s psychosis, not their actual feelings
The psychosis causes people to attack the people they love
Murphy peels Bell off Clarke so she can hit the bomb to knock ‘em out.
This is where that legs entangled screenshot comes from
As soon as Bellamy comes to and realizes what he did, he looks devastated. This is NOT what Bellamy wanted to do.
If I missed something, send me reminders.
