ep 4 broke me.

the temptation to leave this review at that is so high, but i’ve actually found this to be an enjoyable exercise for me so wish me luck let me try and put this shit into words (this shit being whatever my brain is doing after basically screaming at flatmate about how fucked up this was)

okay, so first of all can you imagine how awful it must be to have your sibling pass and the memorial being that stuffy traditional procession shit? being broadcast to the entire country? ew

the contrast of wille watching simon this episode vs. ep3 nearly ended me. that’s all.

messy queen wille returns stronger than ever apparently, and while it was painful to watch, i also think that Something was gonna crack and in a weird fucked up way i thought the scene on the football pitch was beautiful. at least he found some truth, at least he found some words. (also 100% could see moments of edvin just having a stupid fun time shooting that and 😍😍 the image of him imitating the way the metal person was swinging is etched into my brain has someone got a gif of that moment please???)

but also the pain of it being the pills simon stole from his dad fmlfmlfmlfml

and then just. why??? can’t we have one nice thing?? without it immediately being ruined?????

this is mainly what i was screaming at flatmate about cause Who Takes A Video Of Your Cousin The Crown Prince Having Sex What The Fuck. and then i realised that it’s literally everyone in our (uk) government. probably others too but i feel i can only speak for my own. also, he only stopped filming once he realised it was simon. what would he have done if it was a rich girl? would he have stopped so soon too?

so anyway. i’m posting this the day after i watched it, idk when the next one will be hopefully soon!! i’ve really been enjoying doing these, thanks for engaging with these posts!!! xx

i started rewatching house md today and there’s an ep where there’s a baby situation and cameron can’t really talk to it’s moms that it’s dying. During it wilson scolds her when she gives the moms false hopes. And then when it dies house says to him “make her say it” and then wilson goes with her and ends up telling the moms instead of her cause cameron freezes. AND THEN house goes and scolds wilson for saying it instead of her. like THATS SO PARENTING CODED OMG. I LOVE IT SO MUCH.

Viridian Forest is just Misty's hell, isn't it? There is absolutely nothing pleasant in there for her. Every bug we've seen in the series so far wants to interact with her (friendly or otherwise) and every time she's terrified or miserable. It's downright comedic. I bet she’s glad that this is the last episode set there.

Meanwhile, we have our first character of the day in the form of Samurai! ,,,,,Gonna be real with y'all, I thought he was super annoying and I'm pretty glad he won't be appearing again after this (even if I'm kinda interested in what that follow-up battle would look like tbh). The endless Metapod battle was at least an amusing reference, but a ridiculous plot point. He's the one that caused the Beedrill to become enraged, not Ash >:[

Team Rocket in this episode was absolutely hilarious, though. Their anti-Beedrill armor was never going to them any favors, even if the Weedle didn't eat it--Beedrill can sting through solid wood! (Which is. Such a thought to have about how dangerous those Pokemon are in reality. Ash and Misty were in mortal danger that whole time. Good thing this is a family-friendly anime!)

Butterfree saving Ash from the Beedrill was awesome :D No further commentary, the power of friendship prevails! Overall: a solid episode, and a great introduction to Butterfree.

i've seen multiple posts recently that said something along the lines of "crazy how the new version of helena she created by severing herself hated her almost immediately upon being born" and. i don't think that's true, actually. in fact, one of the things that struck me on my rewatch of season 1 leading up to season 2's release was how long helly holds out hope for both her outie and the people around her to realize how fucked up this whole situation is; hope that if they're made to realize it, they'll do the right thing.

i think about her asking mark after the ball game, "so how're you gonna figure out if petey's okay?", like it was a given that he would try something. i think about her telling milchick as he bandages her arm an episode later, preparing her for the break room, "look, you seem like a smart person. don't you see how fucked up this is?"

and i think about the action she took that landed her there. how desperate she was to get that message to her outie, hoping that if she saw that desperation, she would let her go.

i think about the registration request that spurred it. how helly's response to learning it was denied wasn't "oh. she doesn't care". it was "my outie wouldn't do that". (because helly isn't the kind of person who would do that. right?)

i even think about how, when she recorded her ultimatum for her outie, she didn't keep the paper cutter in her lap, the blade looming over her fingers. she put it aside. because the threat wasn't for her outie, not really. she just wanted to talk to her.

helly was born skeptical-bordering-on-cynical ("are we livestock?") and rebellious, yes. but she wasn't a full doomer about her situation from the beginning; if she was, she wouldn't have bothered assaulting the conference room door, demanding they let her out. all of her early lashing out wasn't her shouting in an empty room for its own sake, resigned to the fact that no one would hear her. no; she was hoping, with every scream, that someone would. some part of her, even with all the things that then happened over the first half of the season to grind her down, believed she could reach them, appeal to their humanity, make them understand, make them see her as a person.

and she wanted to believe she could do the same for her own self. she wanted to believe in her outie, the person she was out there. she wanted to believe she was a good person, just... unaware. and she held on to that hope, despite all the mounting evidence... until helena looked her straight in the eyes and told her she was wrong to. until she proved that she was never ignorant, just cruel.

helly is the part of helena that believes she deserves better. helena showed that part of herself nothing but cruelty. and so helly turned that cruelty on her in turn.
