after everything regarding the mystery spot, the obscene about of deans dying on his watch, the six-months he had to go through alone; sam hated 'heat of the moment'.

he was never that big on asia. occasionally had 'i would die for you' in his rotation and thought of dean - but that was back when they were both in their twenties and their dad was still on their most wanted list - but he never truly liked them; mystery spot and gabriel solidifying that.

but after that night, deans blood on his hands, their foreheads pressed together and the bunker cold and lonely, sam would set an alarm for tuesdays, 'heat of the moment' his selected sound, in hopes that everything that had occurred in the past twelve-years was just an extended six-months.

but when he woke up to his faceless wife instead of that dingy motel room, he found himself hating the song more and more. though when it came time to planning his funeral, he made everyone around him promise him that it would be held on a tuesday and they would play 'heat of the moment' when they walked him out of the church.

on agency and fate, re: “I’m not fortune’s fool, I’m yours.”

this show makes me sick, i swear to god. this line creates a beautiful parallel between Will and Shakespeare’s Romeo – both one half of a tragic romance, either at the whim of fate or Hannibal himself – and is an incredible culmination of Will’s grapple with his need for and lack of personal agency. 

in the play, Romeo calls himself fortune's fool immediately after he kills Tybalt, implying that becoming a murderer was not entirely within his control — fate is manipulating and undermining any other intentions Romeo may have. it's an acknowledgment and lament of his own perceived powerlessness in the grand scheme of events.

a very real powerlessness that Will struggles with over the course of the show. by S3, Will has had his personal agency undermined over and over again. every time he has attempted to assert control, Hannibal has been there to show him how Will is simply playing into his plan. 

when Will states he is Hannibal’s fool, near the end of S3, he’s acknowledging his lack of agency and attributing it to Hannibal. that every event, starting with him killing GJH and becoming a killer, has been pre-ordained. it was fated to happen, so it happened.

and this ties in so well with Will's conversation with Abigail (aka his own subconscious) at the beginning of the season. “if everything that can happen, happens, then you can never really do the wrong thing. you're just doing what you're supposed to."

such a neat foreshadowing of how Will does eventually choose and accept Hannibal, even if it ends in tragedy — he's ready to put his fate in Hannibal's hands and he can still feel good about it because, after all, he's just doing what he's supposed to do.

Supernatural S03E11 Mystery Spot

I guess 'Heat of the Moment' is the second famous SPN tracklist song after Carry On My Wayward Son

This episode is a good excuse to soak up some of Sam's beautiful eyes' close up!

Also, eww that toothpaste and the pink toothbrush makes me wonder if the brothers bought two-pack and Dean always got the first pick leaving Sam with a pink one! 🤣

it bothers me how much Sam has to beg Dean to get him to believe he is stuck in a time loop

Sam tells Dean he's grumpy because it's the 100th Tuesday. My god, Sam kept a count?!

Love that whole string of dialogue where both brothers say all the lines together

Dean: Man can't choose his own syrup? What have we become? 🤣🤣🤣🤣

i love how Sam woke up more and more scared, then anxious and later grumpy but the moment he notices the maple syrup switch to strawberry, the next morning Sam wakes angery but determined

Also Sam focused on the syrup man, ordering Dean: Eat your breakfast 🤣🤣

okay! Going back to my toothbrush point, when it's Wednesday, Dean can be seen using a blue toothbrush!! So yeah, the two-pack and first pick is making a lot more sense

the whole six months ordeal on Sam post Dean's death on a Wednesday is so cruel

This episode is also a good reminder that Dean doesn't even know half of the torture that Sam suffers through during this time. He doesn't know how hard Sam tried to save Dean's life from every unfortunate thing that happens. Quite similar to how Dean has no recollection of the time Sam tried to talk to Dean's spirit in 'In My Time of Dying'

This is not my theory but someone rightly pointed out that Sam is so much more organized than Dean is. In the six months he spends without Dean, his motel room is well kept, the Impala's arsenal is neatly organized and even Sam's paper clippings to track the Trickster are neatly cut and arranged. I love my OCD neat freak baby!
