Bruce finds out the hard way which of his kids is okay with the 'unadoption' joke threats he makes when they annoy or stress him out. "Why did I adopt you?"..."I still have your adoption certificate. I wonder if the orphanage accepts returns?"..."I knew I should have left you on that street corner where I found you."

Dick fires back with twice as much sass, sometimes rolling his eyes and flipping off Bruce when he gets older.

Young!Jason looks so scared the first time he hears one, and Bruce never jokes about it again. Adult!Jason makes jokes about unadopting himself.

Tim is far too tired to register that it was a joke and gets quiet and avoids Bruce completely for the rest of the week until Bruce realizes what he did wrong and tracks his son down. They talk and Bruce never implies regretting to adopt Tim again.

Cass laughs along with him before pulling out her adoption certificate from her pocket and grinning, scaring him. His kids's adoption paperwork was all stored in a hidden, impenetrable, designed-by-Batman safe. Laughter fades and she just whispers "You'll never be rid of me."

Bruce- Maybe Talia wants you back.

Damian, not even phased- And maybe Alfred would have rather been working for a doctor than a clown-hating, nocturnal, combat furry, but I guess we're both out here disappointing our parents.

Stephcass has one of my favorite ship dynamics, namely:

Never sure which s more fun, not knowing when they are hallucinating (Steph with Cass after she defeated Shiva's disciple" or knowing full well its a hallucination, or a haunting (Cass with Steph's ghost after the Gang War)

Oh god we need need NEED hallucinations in the new Cass solo. I think everyone should be hallucinating all the time actually. Hallucination and homosexuality both start with h - how curious!

Something I really really love about the hallucinations in Batgirl (2000) is we see them saying things they would never say to each other. Steph talks about how insecure Cass makes her feel, both in terms of ability and whether Cass likes her. An overlooked aspect of their early relationship is that Cass is not good at conveying her enjoyment of Steph's company, leaving Steph to say "you barely even look at me, much less talk..." (Batgirl #26).

Does anyone have any good Cass or Duke fics??? I respect authors wanting to write about their favs (if you're only gonna include characters you're not into to be performative, don't) and I know a lot of people are not familiar with their characters because they haven't gotten to read their comics.

I'm not judging anyone, I got into batfam because of Jason and Tim and I ignored other members for a while as I caught up with these two. But I've been on a Batgirl 2000's marathon and I've also started we are robin and I feel like getting into some more fics for these two where they are more of the focus. Problem is, a lot of FICS have them tagged but they're barely there, completely out of character or just to serve someone else's narrative.

I want some recs for them if you have them (doesn't have to be shipping or any particular ship even if I love Stephcass. As long as the characterization is right I'm down for it).

And as for Steph, for me personally, when Bruce is at his best he tries to take care of her and their relationship borders the line between niece/daughter and uncle/father.

Steph probably wouldn't take actual parenting from Bruce well because she does love her mother and she has a complicated relationship with her father but Bruce does care about her and wants her to be taken care of.

But even though no one shares blood and Steph would undoubtedly go "I am not related to these crazy people." (To be contrarian if nothing else.) By Anti standards the relationship I described would have Steph be enough of a Wayne for TimSteph and StephCass (and JaySteph, DickSteph, DukeSteph, DamiSteph and BruSteph) to be incest.

But for some reason it only counts when I ship JayTim. Because Jason and Tim are boys and they're homophobic.

Yes I would like to vote. Yes I did vote yes. And yes I am incredibly bitter about the amount of people in the tags and comments saying Babs and Steph aren't really BatFam members.

Like one, the fans at large didn't fight fucking hard to get Babs and Steph as officially recognized as BatFam members.

And two, Jim and Bruce are friends there's no way that baby Babs didn't call Bruce Uncle at least once. Dick//Babs is a Cousin Ship and I will die on that hill.

STEPHCASS WEEK Day 7: Monsters

Smoke and dust were everywhere. Even through the filters in her mask, Cass could barely see anything around the place. She pushed through the rubble that was left following the explosion of the building where she and her family faced the Joker.

Things went south when the clown began pushing on Red Hood, reminding him of the time he left him to die in that warehouse explosion. He spoke about how much he'd love to do that again. The vigilante could not stand that and fired at the villain, little did they knew it would cause the bombs planted around the place to go off. Cass' abilities protected her from sustaining major injuries. Her brothers' and father's probably did them too. There was one person on their team who did not have that type of protection.

Cass tried screaming, but who she was looking for did not answer. She looked under large pieces of walls, hearing her heart pumping in her ears, making her distracted. Different dark scenarios flashed through her head. She could not stand them. Finally, she heard a weak coughing from below herself. She ran off as fast as she could and finally saw her love laying on the ground. She was covered by the rubble from the breasts down, already suggesting lots of broken bones. She hoped it would only end at that.

She crouched before Stephanie's body and started lifting off various parts of the destroyed building, until she noticed what she dreaded the most. A sharp metal pipe going right through her abdomen. She lost a lot of blood, her face was all pale. She opened her eyes slowly and looked at Cassandra, reaching her hand to caress her cheek. Cass took off her mask and Steph's as well. She could not care less if any civilian saw them. Tears were flooding Cass face and she could barely say any word.

"H-hey..." Steph began weakly, "I-it's okay, baby, I..." A bloody cough made her pause, "It- 's fine..." Cass was even more of a crying mess right now.

"Stephanie... I- I will... call. Someone will... help." Her voice was so shaky. She didn't believe in what she said. Stephanie lost too much blood already and would lose even more if they tried to take her off the metal.

"Won't do-" Steph coughed up blood again, "That won't do any- anything." She wanted to look into Cassandra's eyes as much as she could before passing out. For good. Her sight began drifting away and Cassandra screamed, leaning closer to her face. Smelling her blood. Almost tasting it.

Bruce always advised against doing it and wanted to keep it a secret. He wasn't proud already of the fact that he pulled all of his children into this, but it was the only way to save them in some situations they went through in their vigilante lives. He could not live after losing them in the field.

Cassandra found herself in that exact situation. It was the only way to save her love, her partner, her Stephanie. In one quick move, she ripped the piece of fabric on Steph's neck. She was unconscious, but the pulse was still there. The dark-haired woman released her fangs and sunk them into her lover's flesh.

...

Cassandra finally woke up with a lazy yawn. She would happily stay in bed, as she still felt sore after last night's patrol. As she spinned around, reaching to the front with her hand, she felt someone's absence from their bed. Cass decided laying just so was no fun, if she couldn't hide her face in a cozy spot between a pair of breasts and got up.

She pulled a purple t-shirt on and headed towards the living room. The sun was just rising, as she saw through the big window in the center of the room, overlooking the Neo-Gotham from one of the highest buildings in the city. No wonder why she was still so sleepy, she would normally wake up in like two hours. She saw who she was looking for leaning against the window, just having a nightrobe on.

Cass placed her hands on her wife's hips from behind. The two women's eyes met and Cassandra saw a glint of light reflecting from the blonde woman's eye. Her hair were messy and stiff and she had bags under her eyes, both being a courtesy of a long and tiring patrol earlier in the night. For Cass, she was looking at the most beautiful woman ever.

Stephanie smiled and put her hands on Cassandra's cheeks, pulling her for a kiss. Their bodies got closer and Steph hopped into Cass' arms, both landing later on the couch in the middle of the room. The blonde began to laugh, to which her partner answered with the same. Steph, laying on top of Cass, cuddled her face into the other woman's neck and gave her lazy kisses. She reached the bite mark. Received from Bruce around, what, 40 years ago already? Time flies.

Her mind drifted to the feral night many decades ago when she almost left this world after that Joker explosion. Who knows, maybe in some other reality Cass was less sure what to do or she was too slow. But not her Cass, her wife. The woman she owed being alive today to.

Longetivity has it's minuses. It's harder to make friends among regular people, knowing that you will see their lives drifting away, while you barely get a wrinkle on your face in a decade. She had family though, people she could depend on in any situation, years spent together showing this definitely.

And she had Cassandra. No other person understood her like this woman. No other person understood this woman like Stephanie did. Their love would break any bounds, those of life and death too. Their wedding vow of spending their whole lives together had a different meaning in their situation.

Neither of them would want anything else from their life.

About the fic itself it is kinda pushing it with the "monster" angle, but I wanted to write something more low-key and kind of, culminative? Cathartic? To kind of underline it being the last day. Vampires were probably the most used motive among all of the works this year so I had to add something from myself too ^^

To summarize, it was so much fun participating in the whole event. Not only from the writing perspective, but also looking at all the amazing works made by other people. I'll be waiting for another round next year definitely. Will be sending prompts too!!

Anyway, I'm coming back to reblogging all the nice Stephcass works I see, but who knows, maybe I'll do some writing here along the way again <3

Hi! I totally didn’t forget to post the StephCass fluff fic! Ha! No way. Anyway… enjoy!!

Cass didn’t really understand some parts of romance and dating.

She loves Steph. That part is very easy and even though Cass doesn’t always have the right words, she knows that much.

It’s just…dating is a bit harder when she is in love. Cass is always aware of what her body is doing. Steph makes her tense and relax at the same time. She makes Cass smile and laugh.

Steph has dated before and Cass had as well, but that was before she realized she didn’t like guys.

Their one year dating anniversary is coming up and Cass wants to make it special, make sure Steph knows how much she means to Cass.

She’ll just need a bit of help.

Duke once told Cass before she and Steph started dating that they make a good couple.

Cass glared at him but he just shrugged.

“Just saying.” He said. He also had a lot to say when they started dating.

Duke looks at her now in the early evening before her patrol and after his.

Her plan was a picnic in the park.

“That’s sweet.”

“Big romantic g…ges—“

“Gesture? Yeah.” He’s lying.

Cass gave him an unimpressed look.

“Okay.” Duke shrugged and then straightened up. “Look, it’s not huge but from what I know of Steph, she likes you more than any big thing.”

“What she deserves.”

“She—you both deserve the best but be realistic.”

Cass nods and he nods back.

Realistic. Right.

Cass texts her to meet her at the top of Wayne Enterprises.

Steph gets into gear and goes.

Cass was also not in civilian clothes, so Steph hopes nothing is too bad.

“Hey. What’s up?”

Cass is tense. Sure, Cass is the best at reading people but Steph knows how to read Cass.

Her back is straight, her fists are closed, but more than anything, she’s avoiding looking at Steph. Looking in her direction but Steph knows she’s looking behind her.

She’s nervous.

“Hey. What’s wrong?”

Cass offers her hand and Steph makes a move to take it when Cass takes her hand back. “Tag.”

Then she took off.

Steph blinked and then was off after her girlfriend, laughing.

They ran all over the rooftops.

By the time Cass stopped running, Steph was also out of breath and laughing so hard.

They were catching their breath and Steph beamed at Cass. “Jerk. We haven’t done that in a while.”

Cass offered her hand and Steph took it and squeezed. She squeezed back.

“What are we doing here?” Steph wondered. They were near the beginning of Gotham.

“Best view.”

Steph raised an eyebrow. “For what?”

Cass pointed to the sky. “That.”

Steph looked and for a while, nothing happened. Then fireworks started going off.

Not just any fireworks. Fireworks that had the number 1. And the letters C and S. So only they know what it means. Cass and Steph. Private but public.

“If it’s not big enough—“

Steph hugged Cass. “It didn’t need to be anything. I love you, Cass. There’s nothing else needed.”

She let go.

Cass stared at her and then moved the mask up so her mouth was shown.

Steph removed her own mask.

“I love you, too.”

They kissed.
