Summary:

Uzumaki Naruto is tired. He's been fighting nonstop for years, then he was suddenly flung into a past he barely even recognizes anymore. If he's stuck in the past anyway, he figures he might as well try to fix everything before it happens, but no matter what anyone does or says, Naruto's gonna do it his way.

Another time-travel AU featuring a Naruto who takes no one's shit, a Nara and a Yamanaka wondering what the fuck they've been dragged into, and all the love in the world for one Shiranui Genma.

Opinion: Hurt Comfort with Heavy Comfort. I love it. Hiro deserves nice things and Genma is nice. And there’s Hiruzen Slander without making him Out Of Character or Evil. I really loved it.

When Kakashi, chunin of Konoha, woke up, his dream slipped away, leaving only the memory of a single sharingan, and a ridiculous phrase.

Hands of boy… are for holding.

How ridiculous. A shinobi’s hands were for killing enemies.

“Sorry I’m late! There was this-“

As Obito continued his excuse, Kakashi thought, not for the first time, that maybe Obito wasn’t meant to be a shinobi. He was a clumsy crybaby, and he didnt care about the rules. He was definitely going to die someday soon, so Kakashi refused to care about him.

Obito’s hands weren’t made for killing enemies.

“So you see, I definitely had to help, and that’s why-“

Using his superior stealth skills, Kakashi casually sidled up to Obito and gently caught one of Obito’s waving hands.

“-Eh? Kakashi?!?”

It was warm.

Hands of Obito… are for holding.

Team Minato really got dealt the worst possible hand by fate.

First, Kakashi has to watch the boy he loves “die” to save him, has the only remnant left of that boy be his literal eye, forever cementing him a part of Kakashi. He’s left unable to do anything but wish for Obito back fighting beside them, for their team to be whole again, but that’s never going to happen, now.

Then, Obito has to watch the girl he loves get KO’d by the boy she loves, and by the time he finds out she jumped, his hatred for Kakashi—the boy he gave his life to save, the boy who loves him, who promised to keep Rin safe—is already cemented. What is he to do but to lose faith in the world, after that? After having the first he sees of his teammates after months trapped in a cave with a madman be her last moments at Kakashi’s hand?

And Kakashi, Kakashi tries to be as much like Obito as he can, tries to save as much of the boy he loved within himself as he can, and then he loses one of the only other people he has—the person whose safety was the last request of the boy Kakashi loved��to his own hand. And he tries to remember her as best he can, models his disguise after her to keep her alive in the only way he can just as he did Obito, but it’s not enough.

And Obito is driven so far over the edge, believes so deeply that the only way to be happy in a broken world is in a dream that he attacks the village that used to mean so much to him, attacks—tries to kill—the people who were like parents to him, because he’s angry, and what does it matter what he does in this worthless world if it’ll be as if it never happened in his dream?

And Kakashi loses the last two people he has, loses them to the boy he loves. Finds out nearly two decades later that Obito never died, that Obito has become everything he would have loathed, once. And then Kakashi has to try and kill him, kill the man whose memory Kakashi built himself around, and when they’re finally on the same side again, when Kakashi can finally fight alongside the man he loves again like he had always wished, it is the last time, because Obito dies again, and this time he’s not coming back. This time, it’s over, and Team Minato is down to one member as Kakashi had thought it for so many years, but it is so much worse, now, and Kakashi can do nothing but move on, because he has people who need him, now.

“Ugh, how long is he gonna make us do this? We already learned all this crap at the Academy!” Naruto groans as he collapses onto the dirt. Sakura does her best to ignore him, and focus on improving her aim just a bit more, but silently she agrees with Naruto. At their first meeting, Kakashi-sensei had dropped them off at the target range, and disappeared without another word. In the two weeks since they’ve become genin, she’s seen her new sensei for a grand total of five minutes. So much for the completely novel training she’d been hoping for: even the targets look the same as the ones sitting in the front yard at the Academy.

“Maybe if you could actually hit the target, idiot, we can get a break for lunch,” Sasuke tosses back at Naruto, flicking yet another kunai into the dead center of the target.

Naruto’s bright blue eyes begin to sparkle wildly. “Lunch? What’re we having today? Do ‘ya think Oba-san’s gonna make purple rice?”

“Idiot,” Sasuke says, but Sakura notices it’s without any real vitriol. “She always makes purple rice.”

Naruto’s eyes widen suddenly, and he springs up clumsily, scattering kunai from his poorly sewn pouches. “Hey! Since Sakura’s on our team now, she should come to family lunch too! Wanna come, Sakura?”

“It’s rude to invite someone to a house that’s not yours, Naruto,” she snaps, and immediately regrets it. If she’d accepted, then she could have lunch at Sasuke’s house, with his parents. That was the real ticket to crush-approval right there. 

Naruto wilts, and he gets up to gather his fallen kunai with a pout. Sakura holds her breath, watching Sasuke out of the corner of her eye.

“...I’ll ask her if we can invite Sakura for lunch tomorrow,” Sasuke says grudgingly, and neither Sakura nor Naruto can hide their smiles.

Loving your posts about ship dynamics

I often end up feeling alone when I start to speak about such things. Because people either ship the opposite of what I think is right ( sn is more popular for some bizarre reason) or claim to don't mind the dynamic ( while in fact preferring the most popular one). Sometimes they even imply that it's wrong to prefer a specific dynamic "because real people are not like that". While in real life most gay people just like hetero people have the preferred position.

I, personally, have a pairings where I tolerate switch dynamic but still have a preferred one. But in those pairings the thing that makes it possible for me is the fact that the characters are both on the somewhat equal footing. There's no psychological or social imbalance between them.

But things like ns or hsmd? No. Clear top/bottom positions to me.

There's even sun/moon symbolism there...

And, Anon, I feel the same all the time...I wrote explanations and disclaimers on why tf I think the way I think all over my blog because at some moments it was crazy, at every time I made a comment about top and bottom some sheep-like person appeared with their "you can't ship A/B because top/bottom distinction fetishizes gay guys" and "real ppl are not like that, they switch"...

I heard these bullshit things so many times and they make me laugh because probably those who say them aren't even lgbt, or allies, they're just shippers of the other dynamic, or who want to bitch for the sake of bitching, they probably didn't even had s*x before so stfu, gay guys in real life are not even listening to you and they sure don't give a damn about how you portray your characters in your little online world. And the switching thing...ugh. Like you said, some ppl do have preferences irl. Even gay guys. I am not a guy but I do have a strong preference and I had it both when I had a guy and now that I am with a girl. So real life doesn't confirm their bullshit. Also, even if irl it's was they say, we're talking about fictional characters...specifically, fictional characters with supernatural powers, in a fantasy universe. If they can summon magic animals and direct black flames with their eyes, can't they be only bottoms as well? Just sayin'.

And ofc there are the fake switch shippers, who claim they like both but you can clearly see they prefer one, which suspiciously is always the wrong one. They all ship SN but they claim they're open and woke and cool so they like SNS. F*ck them tbh.

And don't get me started on those who claim that Sasuke bottom is 'wrong' totally misinterpreting his personality, especially with NAr and Itachi. And they bitch at you for not shipping SN and SI...Like, wtf are you looking at? cause it's not the same manga I read. I remember some idiot using the sun/moon to prove their OOC point even, i don't remember what was the logic but it was so stupid I blocked them, and it was one of those very popular blogs lol

To think that sun/moon yin/yang should have closed all sort of discussion about top/bottom right? NS and HSMD (which I assume it's hashimada) are pretty clear...and there are many others who are pretty clear, after all if a character like Sas has clearly a passive/yang personality and one like NAr has an assertive/yin personality it's almost impossible to see them in a different 'role'. For me, thinking about top Sas is really OOC. Others can switch, like Kakaobi where I too switch preference for one or the other lol, not being a big fan of the pairing anyway so I go with the mood of the fanart I'm looking at. Or, say, rare pairings as Tobirama/Madara who both give me bottom vibes so who knows. Like you said, when the pairing is really equal I get the switching (even in Shiita I kinda get it) but NS, Hashimada, and all pairings with a power inbalance are clear. And those ppl are wrong.

Write and post the short story that links the Lost Treasure of Asura to its potential sequel (current WIP title - Shisui Uchiha and the Comic-Con Macguffin)

Finally finish and post You've Got the Music in You (my Stucky 00's Iraq War fic that consistently ends up back on the shelf)

Investigate writing the next arc of my Kakaobi fic Red Dawn (no I haven't forgotten this fic exists, it's just a very intimidating behemoth, and I struggle to get into the right mood to work on it).

If enough people enjoy the Lost Treasure of Asura, I plan to write a sequel (current WIP title - Shisui Uchiha and the Legend of the Demon Fox Priestess)

Naturally, all of this is subject to change at the whim of my muses!
