A Bird And His Fire

A/N: Okay so this took forever to write, and it’s, like, a week late, and I’m so sorry for that! I hope you still enjoy this, Ry! Happy belated Valentine’s! ^^

Pairings: DickKory (Dick Grayson/Nightwing x Koriand’r/Starfire)

Everyone had told her that humans couldn’t fly, ever since she’d arrived on this planet.

They hadn’t met Dick Grayson.

Kori watched as her boyfriend and lover wove through the uneven bars, then smoothly transitioned to the trapeze with momentum enough to have him arching over one, hands reaching out to catch himself just in time.

He moved like a bird, he made the motions so naturally, and it was hard for her to believe that he wasn’t a metahuman.

Beside her stood Timothy—one of Richard’s brothers. He seemed just as entranced as she was, and he lived with Richard.

She smiled as she watched him finish his routine, landing on the ground with his arms thrown open, sweat dotting his forehead, chest rising and falling with deep inhales as he caught his breath.

Most importantly, there was a beautiful smile that lit his entire face up; it touched his eyes and made their royal blues gleam; it made the corners of his eyes crinkle; his whole body seemed to smile right with his mouth.

Kori clapped and Timothy smiled as he joined in, saying a good-natured, “Show-off,” to his brother.

Richard laughed and gave a playful bow before moving to wrap his arms around his girlfriend. She leaned down a little to press a sweet kiss to his lips, and murmur, “You said humans don’t fly.”

Timothy made gagging noises and the couple chuckled.

“What are you, eight?” Richard looked to his little brother with a new gleam in his eyes. “I know of a certain ‘under-cover’ Hong Kong cop that you got a little… close, to. Not to mention Ms. Fox.”

Intrigued, Kori looked to Timothy as well to see him flushing red.

“He is embarrassed,” she observed. “It is true, then?”

Timothy spluttered and Richard laughed as the boy said, “You’re the worst, Dick,” and hurried from the room mumbling something about a case he had to work anyways.

Little brother gone, Richard turned to face Kori. He pressed his own quick kiss to her lips and responded to her original inquiry, grinning.

“They don’t.”

“Then how do you explain your display?”

“Practice.”

“Oh?”

Richard hummed an affirmative as he grabbed her hand and walked out of the gym, speaking as he did. “The best way a human can fly, is learning how to throw yourself at the ground and miss.”

Kori’s brow furrowed as she followed.

“Does that not mean that you will hit the ground as you learn?”

Her boyfriend nodded.

“Yeah, you will, but that’s just something everyone learns in their lives.” His royal blue eyes met her electric green ones. “You’re gonna fall, in life, a lot. You fall when you learn how to walk. You fall when you learn how to run. You fall when you learn how to ride a bike. So of course you’re going to fall when you learn how to fly; everyone’s telling you that you can’t. Falling gets easier, though, with a net.” Richard smiled and squeezed her hand a little as he continued. “So you do it anyway. You fall, and you fall, and you fall, until you finally fly; until you’re soaring above their heads and smiling down on them because you did it. You learned how to fly in a world that refused to let you.”

Kori smiled and laughed, Richard’s own joyous expression growing with hers.

“That,” she started, “was a valuable lesson, Richard. And a very… deep look at it.”

Richard laughed softly, pink lightly powdering his cheeks. “Yeah, I guess it was.”

Still smiling, Kori released Richard’s hand for him to go shower and change as she waited for him in the family room.

“What are you doing?”

Dick paused, turning to look back at Kori. He flashed her a grin before presenting her the stuffed animal he’d bought her, along with a box of chocolates, and a valentine’s card with a message scribbled inside.

“Happy Valentine’s Day, Kori!”

She tilted her head as she grabbed the items, putting the puppy under an arm as she shifted her hold on the card and heart-shaped chocolate box to read her card.

As she did, she said, “I do not understand this custom, but it is very cute and I enjoy it.”

He laughed silently at her comment.

Eagerly he watched her face as she read the card he’d filed with mushy clichés that really expressed how much he loved and appreciated having her as a partner.

Gosh, he couldn’t find himself imagining his life without her in it.

When she finished reading, Kori lifted her gaze with a blinding grin that took his breath away and flung herself at him for a hug. He fumbled for the puppy and chocolates a little but returned the fierce embrace as soon as he could.

“Your letter was so sweet, Richard!” she gushed, hugging tighter and, yeah, he loved hugging but he also liked being able to breathe, Kori, please and thank you. “Your sentiments are very much returned! I love you too, and a life without my bird would be a dull one.”

Dick grinned into her hug, wheezing a little as he tried to wriggle out of the embrace because air.

“Your bird?”

Kori released him, that beautiful grin still on her face. “Yes. Humans cannot fly, but birds do, and you were a Robin, were you not?” She nodded to herself. “Therefore you are my bird. My Robin.”

He was blushing again, and he had no idea how Kori did that. Today was supposed to be about her, but he was the one blushing.

“Well,” he started, smiling, “if I’m your bird, then you’re my fire.”

She laughed a little. “Oh, really?”

“Yep!” he popped the ‘p’ as he said it, then added, “God, Kori, how could you not be? You’re the fiery passion in my heart, the heat that keeps me alive, and the glow of my life. You’re the reckless love, the bright smile, and the burning loyalty, Kori.”

Dick hugged her again, burying his face in her shoulder.

“I love you so much, Kor,” he whispered.

He heard her smile when she spoke in a gentle tone. “And I you, Richard.”

Oooo 34 with Jason Todd

“Babe, if we die, I want you to know I love you.”

“We’re not gonna die.”

“Easy for you to say. You do crazy crap like this all the time.”

Jason smiled and grabbed your hand, squeezing it reassuringly. “We’re gonna be fine. They’ve got us strapped in nice and tight.”

You bit your lip before smiling back hesitantly. “I’m glad you’re doing this with me.”

Bungee jumping had been a crazy dream of yours that you mentioned off-handedly once in front of Jason, and he had insisted on taking you. Now that you were here though, over six hundred feet in the air, butterflies had started to flutter in your stomach.

“You kidding? I’m always down for an adrenaline rush.“ He said. “You ready?”

You took a deep breath and nodded, stepping to the edge of the platform. Jason was right beside you, your hand still clasped in his. He pressed a kiss to your cheek before stepping away to his own platform.

The instructor double-checked your harness and gave you instructions on what to do after you jumped. When he asked if you were ready to jump, you nodded, glancing over at Jason to find that he was grinning at you. He gave you a thumbs up and you returned it, the butterflies in your stomach calming a little.

From his platform, Jason started counting down.

“3…2…1!”

Nearly in sync, you and Jason jumped headfirst, arcing through the air.

Your heart pounded wildly in your chest, the wind whistling in your ears. For a few, precious seconds you truly felt as if you were flying. It was over far too soon, the bungee cord catching you and flinging you back into the air.

When you were back on the platform with both feet firmly planted, Jason came over, his harness already removed, and gave you a giant hug.

“I’m so proud of you, [Y/N]!” He said, kissing your forehead.

You grinned, returning his embrace. “That was amazing! Is that what it’s like using your grapple on patrol?”

“Kind of, yeah.”

“Hmm, maybe I should think about starting a career in vigilantism.”

You laughed as Jason’s face paled dramatically.

“Please don’t.”

From the time you were a kid you always hated having to get the fitted sheet onto the bed.  It was always a nightmare and took far too long.  You’d get one corner set, move onto the next one and the first corner would come flying over to you.  You just couldn’t win.

Now it was harder.  It wasn’t the twin sized bed you had at your parents’ house anymore.  You just moved in with Dick and now had a much larger bed to contend with.  Dick was out getting some takeout since the whole process of moving zapped all motivation for cooking, and you wanted to get a jump on getting your bedroom together and cozy.

You were so focused on your battle with the sheet and  the bed, you never heard Dick come in.  You were sprawled across the bed, trying and failing to keep the corner in place with your foot as you attempted to get the next one situated at the head of the bed.

“Hey beautiful bedroom citizen, can I be of any assistance?” Dick offered as he watched you struggle to stretch and contort your body to reach all corners of the bed.

“Almost got it,” you mumbled face first into the mattress. “Just a little further.”

Dick waited a moment before jumping in to help, burning this moment into his memory.  Your stubbornness and independence were just some of the reasons he was so madly in love with you.  You refused to give up, and just like him, didn’t always want to ask for help, but that was why you two worked.  You were always there to bolster the other with every problem, from seemingly dead end murder cases to a villainous fitted bed sheet.

He pulled the corners near your feet into place as you crawled to the head of the bed and secured the top corners.  “I swear, I had it under control,” you lied. “But thank you.”

You barely turned to face where Dick had been standing at the foot of the bed when he pounced and had you tackled into the mattress, tickling you mercilessly.  You squirmed around, shrieking in laughter trying to get Dick to let up to no avail.  It wasn’t until you had a clear sight of his goofy grin that you were able to successfully attempt your escape.  You reached your head up enough to catch his lips with yours, and any thoughts he had continuing to tickle you were gone.

Dick wrapped his arms around you and rolled until your positions were switched.  You kissed him properly now that you didn’t have to contend with the ticklish torture.  You both were grinning like goofballs as you rested your head against his chest.

“I know this isn’t the Valentine’s dinner you were expecting, but I got us some Chinese food for tonight,” he offered before kissing the top of your head.

“Moving on Valentine’s Day? No, that’s not what I expected, but getting to spend the whole day with you is all I wanted,” you answered, pulling yourself closer into his chest.  “I don’t need a fancy dinner, I only need you to make it perfect. C’mon let’s go eat that dinner.”

 From the time you were a kid you always hated having to get the fitted sheet onto the bed.  It was always a nightmare and took far too long. You’d get one corner set, move onto the next one and the first corner would come flying over to you.  You just couldn’t win.

Now it was harder.  It wasn’t the twin sized bed you had at your parents’ house anymore.  You just moved in with Dick and now had a much larger bed to contend with.  Dick was out getting some takeout since the whole process of moving zapped all motivation for cooking, and you wanted to get a jump on getting your bedroom together and cozy.

You were so focused on your battle with the sheet and  the bed, you never heard Dick come in. You were sprawled across the bed, trying and failing to keep the corner in place with your foot as you attempted to get the next one situated at the head of the bed.

“Hey beautiful bedroom citizen, can I be of any assistance?” Dick offered as he watched you struggle to stretch and contort your body to reach all corners of the bed.

“Almost got it,” you mumbled face first into the mattress. “Just a little further.”

Dick waited a moment before jumping in to help, burning this moment into his memory.  Your stubbornness and independence were just some of the reasons he was so madly in love with you.  You refused to give up, and just like him, didn’t always want to ask for help, but that was why you two worked.  You were always there to bolster the other with every problem, from seemingly dead end murder cases to a villainous fitted bed sheet.

He pulled the corners near your feet into place as you crawled to the head of the bed and secured the top corners.  “I swear, I had it under control,” you lied. “But thank you.”

You barely turned to face where Dick had been standing at the foot of the bed when he pounced and had you tackled into the mattress, tickling you mercilessly.  You squirmed around, shrieking in laughter trying to get Dick to let up to no avail. It wasn’t until you had a clear sight of his goofy grin that you were able to successfully attempt your escape.  You reached your head up enough to catch his lips with yours, and any thoughts he had continuing to tickle you were gone.

Dick wrapped his arms around you and rolled until your positions were switched.  You kissed him properly now that you didn’t have to contend with the ticklish torture.  You both were grinning like goofballs as you rested your head against his chest.

“I know this isn’t the Valentine’s dinner you were expecting, but I got us some Chinese food for tonight,” he offered before kissing the top of your head.

“Moving on Valentine’s Day? No, that’s not what I expected, but getting to spend the whole day with you is all I wanted,” you answered, pulling yourself closer into his chest.  “I don’t need a fancy dinner, I only need you to make it perfect. C’mon let’s go eat that dinner.”

I just want to know what Batman and DC fans think of Damian. . .

Deathstroke #30 shows the beginning of a series within a series: Deathstroke vs Batman (6 issue series). When both detective and assassin are sent with letters containing DNA test "conferming" Talia Al Ghul and Slade Wilson matching as Damian's genetic parents!

Priest sad fans should make their voices be heard to DC especially since this will change everything!

So my question to fans is do you see Damian as Bruce's son? And not just because that's what dc made us believe all this time. Or are you like 80% of fans that actually want deathstroke to be his real father?

I admit it would be a real game changer if Spade was the real father and it would be interesting it's fall out. But I feel that it be best if he stays Bruce's son. This really confuses someone after seeing Son of Batman.

Gosh I hope it's no a vote like Jason's death. I really hated DC and it's fans then and I'll hate again if it happens again.

“There was no time!” Jason defended. “If I hadn’t done something, he would have died!”

You let out an exasperated breath. “I know, but…a puppy, Jason? Where is he even going to stay?”

Jason grinned shyly, his eyebrows raising as he shrugged. “I thought maybe he could live…here?”

“Jason!” You cried. “I don’t have time to look after a puppy! I have work, and–“ You met the puppy’s eyes, a heart-melting chocolate brown. “…and…ah, crap.”

You took the puppy from Jason’s arms, a smile tugging at your lips as the little guy nuzzled against your hand, his tail wagging enthusiastically when you scratched behind his ears.

“You owe me big time for this,” You said to Jason, your gaze fixed on the puppy.

He wrapped an arm around your shoulders, hugging you to his side. “I love you,” He said as way of an apology. “Isn’t that enough?”

You considered his words before shaking your head. “No.”

A Motivational Message of Sorts (I’M BAAAAACK!)

Hey guys! I’m back from writing camp, and let me just tell you how wonderful was!!! I got to talk to all my friends from last year and got to make new ones as well, I learned that I was the Co-Queen Of a kingdom called Fenaldia with my cape wielding Might Queen Emily and we have two children that we made out of clay XD  But enough about my friends and I being dorks, I want to share with you guys What I REALLY learned at writing camp.

So at writing camp, we are always visited by an author, not a big time author like Rick Riordan, but an amazing author non the less, named Eric Tower. Along with teaching us the fundamentals on how to publish a book, he also gave us encouraging advice, Don’t give up.

I know, sounds cliche, right? But its just so painfully true. This man shared with us a part of the story he had written and was currently trying to publish, and I would have read it on the spot, that is if it were published. He had been rejected many times, each time, he told us, he doubted himself, thinking he might as well not try. But each time he was rejected, he worked on him piece, making it better then it was before, he grew from the rejection. Sort like that saying “What doesn’t kill you makes you stronger.” 

Now, I feel that this doesn’t only apply to aspiring authors trying to publish their new novel, but to the writers of tumblr as well. They work oh so very hard to create new content for their followers, most of the time feeling underappreciated or that they aren’t enough, but I am here to tell you that you are enough, that your writing? It’s a work of art. You poured your heart and soul out onto that piece for someone. To make them happy, to brighten their day, and chances are, that’s exactly what you did. Even though you probably felt discouraged, even though you might have thought “What’s the point?”  You did it.

You persevered.

You didn’t give up. 

And I will forever be proud of you for that.
