Ryan Reeves x Reader

I had been excited about tonight for weeks. A dinner date with Ryan—well, not exactly a date, but it felt like one. We'd planned it for ages, and I took my time getting ready, making sure I looked perfect. I wanted him to see me and realize what had been in front of him all along.

As I made my way downstairs, Mike raised an eyebrow. "Where are you off to all dressed up?"

I smiled. "The dinner with Ryan—it's tonight."

For a moment, Mike looked surprised, then hesitant. "He's not here. Don't think he'll be back anytime soon."

My heart sank. "What do you mean? Is something wrong?"

Before he could answer, Tyler and Jodie rounded the corner, stopping when they saw my expression. Sasha then walked past, casually throwing over her shoulder, "Oh, he's out with Chloe and her pretty friend Emily. Didn’t he tell you?"

The words hit me like a slap. I forced myself to stay composed, but the pain settled deep. I quickly pulled out my phone and texted Ryan. No reply. I sent another. Still nothing. My stomach twisted as I turned back to Mike. "I paid a deposit for our seats… this has been planned for weeks."

Jodie frowned. "Who's Emily?"

Tyler, in typical fashion, opened his big mouth. "Some blonde girl with blue eyes. She’s gorgeous."

The complete opposite of me.

I felt my stomach drop even further. I nodded, forcing a small smile before slowly making my way to the stairs. I sat there for an hour, sending a couple more texts and calling him. Nothing.

Eventually, I gave up and went to my room. Doubts flooded my mind—about how I looked, how I was, if I’d ever be enough. Frustration bubbled inside me, and before I knew it, my phone was flying across the room, clattering against the wall. I slid down onto the floor, hugging my knees to my chest.

Jodie and Tyler came in quietly, sitting beside me. "Ryan likes you, a lot," Jodie reassured, but it didn’t help.

That night, after showering, I climbed into bed, hoping sleep would take me before my thoughts did.

A knock at my door made my body tense. A voice I didn’t want to hear followed. "Can I come in?"

Before I could even say no, Ryan stepped inside. Anger flared in me, and I grabbed a pillow, throwing it at him. "Go away."

Concerned, he stepped closer. "What’s wrong?"

I sat up, jaw clenched. "Do you know why I’m upset?"

Ryan hesitated before shaking his head.

I inhaled sharply before whispering, "Then get out of my room."

He looked shocked but listened. Once he was gone, I shoved a chair under the handle and fell asleep.

Screaming jolted me awake. At first, I was groggy, unsure if I was dreaming. Then I heard Mike shouting for everyone to get out. I could hear the police.

How had I not woken up sooner?

Panic surged through me as I scrambled to my door, moving the chair. When I stepped outside, I could hear banging. People shouting. Police. Something was very, very wrong.

Ryan’s POV

Outside, I stood with the others, heart pounding. The second I realized she wasn’t there, I tried to run back in, but an officer stopped me. "You can’t go in there!"

"She’s still inside!" I yelled. "You have to get her!"

Mike’s face was pale with worry. "There are two kids in there."

The officer spoke into his mic before using a megaphone. "Y/N and Ginger, if you can hear us, hide! We’re coming to get you!"

I clenched my fists, trying to hold back my fear. Then I heard a scream.

A scream that made my blood run cold.

Y/N’s POV

The scream had come from Ginger. I was already in the corridor, standing in front of the intruder. The man stepped forward, a knife glistening in his hand.

"Ginger," he called.

I extended my arm in front of her protectively. "Stay behind me."

"I have to go," Ginger whispered. "He’ll hurt you."

"No," I said firmly, my eyes never leaving the man. He took another step forward.

I spotted a lamp nearby, unplugged. I waited for him to get close before grabbing it and swinging. The impact sent him stumbling, but as he fell, his knife slashed across my forearm.

Ginger screamed.

Everything outside erupted into chaos. Police stormed in, dragging the man away. Blood dripped down my arm as they held pressure on the wound, pulling me outside.

The second I stepped out, Ryan ran to me, engulfing me in a hug. His body shook as he cried into my shoulder.

"You're bleeding!" Tyler shouted. Ryan's face turned pale. "No, no, no—"

I managed a weak smile. "I’m fine."

Paramedics took me to the ambulance, Ryan refusing to leave my side. As I was patched up, he sat silently.

"You’re still upset with me," he finally said.

I sighed, looking away. "You didn’t show up, Ryan. You ignored me."

He exhaled heavily. "I messed up. I got caught up in something that didn’t matter. I—I think I’m in love with you, Y/N. No one else could ever compare."

I turned to him, eyes wide.

Then he kissed me—soft and full of meaning, as if trying to convey every unspoken word.

And in that moment, I knew.

It had always been him.
