I'm literally crying right now because for some reason I put a lot of worth into going to Japan to see the giant RX78-2 Gundam, and on the 31'st at 1900 jpt they'll be decommissioning it. They're going to stream it, but I wanted to go there and stand on the street and look up at it and watch it move. I didn't expect something like this to make me sad enough to cry. I guess I just put a lot of stake into going and seeing it before I got too old and couldn't and now I can't because it won't be there anymore.

I guess I just assumed at some point I'd have the occasion to see it before they removed it.

I suppose this is just another thing in life that I'll have to be okay with since I can't make them not decomission the robot.

Sorry for the rant post about a big robot in Japan.

Gundam ha guidato questa avanguardia verso una nuova interpretazione dei mecha. In una guerra reale, sanguinaria e fratricida, l'RX 78 Gundam era spesso danneggiato, anche gravemente, ma rimaneva il coraggio e la determinazione del suo pilota Amuro Rei, e dell'equipaggio delle White Base che faceva da scudo agli attacchi di Zeon.

Trying to do some posing with my Gundam RX78-2 rg kit.

Choosing this kit was a stupid choice, this thing falls apart so easily, the hands are also so stupidly flimsy. The most annoying part though was definitely the front of the shoulder gauntlets popping off again and again.

1/35 gundam

I finished assembling the big gundam. It's very big indeed. It has to kneel to fit next to the 1/35 onmimechs.

The lighting system is OK, the batteries work but the head pcb battery terminals are a bit weak. The thrusters and beam sabers use magnets in the saber handles to switch on. Some light barriers inside the light plastics will improve the look.

The kit mixes several versions of the rx78-2. Version ka shoulders (that seem a bit oversize) torso weapons from Gundam: The Origin and a particular head sculpt. It seems to be an upscale high grade kit.

Its quite posable with ratcheting joints. The hips are stiff to assemble and the joints can be tight to begin with. The knees get a full 180 bend with separate knee caps, the toe area on the feet can hinge and twist and the heel can hinge too.

It took be about 4 evenings to assemble. There is some internal structure but it's not like a master grade or above - the armour is structural in most places. The fingers are individually jointed and have some good mobility, no spare fixed pose hands are included but they're not necessary.

It comes with a beam rifle and bazooka, and a core fighter. It looks like a v2.0 master grade blown up. This is the only mild down side as the proportions are poor and it obviously can't fit a 1/35 pilot. It's very nice to have though, it can form a coreblock, has simple missile pods and a tilting seat. The landing gear is a sled that plugs into its ventral fuselage (moulded in clear for some reason) and will look fine when painted.

I paid £107 from gunpla san in the uk for my kit. They are often on back order. Aliexpress carries them but watch out for ordering a 1/100 by mistake.

Its pretty cheap for that amount of plastic. You could use one to make a wh40k titan.

You could get the uc hard graph core fighter and mod it to fit to get a realistic cockpit, and get a 1/35 resin head to make it super detailed.

You could modify it as a filming miniature, or add more LEDs and use it as a bedside lamp 😄 lots of options with such a big kit.

I have ideas to make it into an rx-79g!

Gundam Xi complete per @ask-the-toy-box ‘s request. This version of the Xi Gundam was featured in the Netflix exclusive Gundam film Mobile Suit Gundam: Hathaway (Hathaway’s Flash in Japan) based upon the novel trilogy of Hathaway’s Flash. The big difference between this version and the version in the novels is that the novel version has a red and blue colored chest.

This is a beefy kit that looks really cool but is let down by the lack of articulation. The ways in which I articulated it here in these photos is about the limits of its articulation. Not sure why Hathaway Noa would get a mobile suit that can only turn its waist about 20 degrees.

Do not zoom in too much on the Unicorn. It was one of my earliest kits and I made almost every first timer mistake with it.

I also tired my hand at painting details in by painting the thrusters red for accuracy.

Now, should you buy this kit? Maybe. If you really think it’s cool and really want it on your self go ahead, but the price tag is ridiculous for what the kit can actually do. I got mine for 40% at Hobby Lobby and even then felt like I overpaid when I built the kit and tried posing it. Maybe I’ll change my mind when the other two movies come out if they are good enough to create an emotional attachment with the suit.
