Started this edit almost an entire year ago, right when RWBY Beyond dropped the boba episode. I immediately caught onto the idea of chibi Ruby being a little cherub to use for shipping characters. Of course, I immediately distracted myself with other creative projects and the Ship Wars 8 (which White Knight won in spectacular fashion btw) and life got in the way. But I came back around to it this past month. Perfect timing really, since it means I got it out for Valentine’s Day.

I just think it’s lovely how CRWBY have nurtured this ship subtly in the background, until they finally decided to get right up in our faces about it with Volume 9. That’s kind of what I wanted to portray here, with Cruby on a mission to make White Knight a reality, but Jaune and Weiss had already grown close without that final brazen intervention.

It’s really something special to start this meme essentially right as Rooster Teeth and RWBY closed down, only to come back and finish it with the news that Rooster Teeth was bought by Burnie and RWBY’s now moved on to VIZ. Both of them continuing on in their way. Kind of heartwarming to be honest, like a message of perseverance, keep on trying even if circumstances bring you down.

I can still see a few influences from my early work on the edit, was playing a little Republic Commando at the time, so we get Ruby’s comment about her skills with a bow confusing and frightening CRWBY. Speaking of, I think we can all see why I chose Cruby as Ruby’s cherub name. Perfect for someone tasked with building up White Knight. And, come on, the shipping rock is a perfect replacement for a bow. You may have noticed me sneak in the Golden Oreos or Rooster Teeth’s logo to celebrate the recent news (Jaune’s put a little sticker on the pummel of his sword).

With editing, I still run into trouble every now and then as I learn and familiarize myself with my software. Even now after a year of practicing it, and a decent chunk on gimp in particular. On this edit I ran into a weird issue with the color picker tool, where when I sampled a color, the brush would only apply a pastel or grayer version of that color. Wasn’t sure how I enabled that, if it was a glitch or I accidentally enabled some key shortcut or something. I worked my way around it though, in the most obtuse manner.

Pretty cool to be learning something new as I go through these edits. Like all the color correcting for my Vacuan Nights meme. Or even small quality of life things like how I decided to start making thicker outlines for the text about halfway through. That’s something that helps making the words pop, the outlines were a bit too thin before. And at the end I can really pump out some of the more complicated edits that used to take me a long time a year ago.

Redrawing Jaune for panel 9 was a ton of tedious busywork. The screenshot I pulled that from had bad lighting from the portal behind Jaune, so I needed to fill in colors for proper lighting. I think it came out pretty spectacularly.

And I just really like the premise for this meme. CRWBY helping push White Knight along, but the relationship was already well on its way in the background. That little bag of ‘cupid’ rocks just seems really cute to me, too. Fun, cheap little drawing.

Chibi Ruby is cute as can be; so happy they gave us this version of her in Beyond. Especially like that devious look I gave her. Yang looks great too, really enjoy Beyond’s style, and the exasperated palm to the face. And, of course, I loved writing and drawing up the cute interaction between Jaune and Weiss. She needs to see those shark pups! :)

rating different ozpins out of 10

There's a lot of them. Long post ahoy.

Volume 1: pale ass man. flings his students into Grimm-infested forests and does not give a FUCK. not actually listening to anyone half the time my autistic king. despite the limited animation, you look into this man's eyes and you can tell he's secretly a little shit (affectionate). 9/10

Volume 2: I was gonna put a screenshot of his face and talk about how much better the lighting is in this volume but I saw this on the wiki and this man has NO ASS. He has NO CAKE. the dilf caring mentor vibes this volume are off the charts yet i can't get over this shot. 4/10 the no ass really hurts him

Volume 3: Colourful lighting, soft gaze, blorbo burdened by the weight of his sins. Not so pale that it hurts to look at. His mischievous demeanour is gone in place of sad immortal old man vibes. A shame to see the silly go, but I love a man with flaws who tries his genuine best to do good. 8/10

Volume 5: This part of the OP was always so jarring to me. The silly has returned but they flattened him and it looks odd. Is he doing the :3 face? 2/10 for hiding it in profile.

Volume 6: The first Ozpin in Maya! Unfortunately, he has to contend with the original Ozma this episode, and sadly his one second of sad old man hours kind of gets outshined by fucking. everything his past incarnations go through. Nice to see him in model again though. 6/10 (Ozma is like. 10/10 btw)

Volume 9: this isn't even ozpin. -100000/10.

Chibi: This is peak. I don't even care anymore. I'll say it. RWBY chibi is the peak of rwby content and I'm tired of pretending it's not. this man is the embodiment of silly. he would :3 and he would have the decency to look at the camera when he does. if this oz ever met salem... okay he'd probably make things a lot worse but it would be really funny. 11/10

Ice Queendom: ∞/10 daddy? sorry. daddy? sorry. daddy? sorry. da

This one render: what are you scheming about you shifty little fucker. this is the face of a man who has done something to mildly inconvenience you and he's waiting for you to realise it. gay ass smirk. i appreciate it for bringing back mischievous ozpin in the maya engine but there is something about this i do not trust. 6/10

(bonus) the exact same render but in this thumbnail with his ex wife: 9.5/10. Salem addition really brings out the best in this one. Ozlem in a romcom. He gets pegged and he's proud of it.

Volume 3 japanese poster: eh. it could be better. I don't sense the silly OR the sad old man OR the fuckable mentor in this one. 1/10.

Volume 6 poster: YEAARGHHH THATS WHAT I CALL ANGST, BABY!!!! 11/10!!!!

Viz manga: with this and ice queendom, the jp side of rwby understands how to make an ozpin that appeals to me, specifically. 20/10.

Playing card: the hand in his pocket. the other hand resting lazily on his cane like it's a fucking samurai sword. the slightly cocky smirk. this is Ozpin after spending a day with the Branwen Twins. a young raven and qrow saw this and thought he was the coolest fucking dude ever (he is not). was going to rank it a bit lower but due to my headcanon going straight to ozpin and bird twins I like it. 8/10

Inconsistency when it comes to skin tones bother me.

I think all of us noticed Taiyang in the new engine looking incredibly white/yellowish? Did he get some kind of liver or kidney problem between the volumes? (and if they didn't have time to finish his model or whatever, why include him?)

Neptune and Sun suffer from this all the time too, notably in rwby chibi

(I mean look Sun being same tone as Coco versus them in the actual show?! Give me back tanned Gyaruo boy goddammit).

Whitley looks like My little Pony equestria girls character. Especially during his first appearance. It's the long legs, "hooves" like the equestria girls characters, it's the uncanny side profile ---

Even if Winter doesn't know about the turning into bird thing, we can probably assume Qrow and Winter are aware of each others fighting styles and such;

It's bit hard to make out but in chibi his eyes are same colour as his hair, in the show unfinished models have black eyes.

I headcanon that James was very lanky slim kid. Not beefy like now, and that's partly why he wanted to become ripped and prove everyone he was capable (n manly man and all that).

Unfortunately, this costed him some of his body parts. The lengths he went just so he could be seen worthy by his peers and teachers, resulting him thinking he needs to be perfect, flawless (even though he's plenty capable with his robotic parts, the perfectionism persist)

And that's why he lowkey hated Watts, not only he betrayed him and lacks principles, but he reminds Ironwood of what he used to be.

Good news, my copy of this book arrived today:

Bad news: I don’t have a scanner, so the only pics I have were taken on my phone while struggling to hold the book open. I've attempted to keep light from reflecting off the pages in annoying places.

Although even if I did have a scanner I wouldn't have time to scan everything, this book is almost 350 pages long. Not all of it is art worth scanning, there's a fair amount of screenshots from Volumes 1 to 8 too.

The pics I have managed to take so far are under a read more cut because there's over 20 of them. Mostly Yang because she's my fav, but a fair few of team RWBY as a whole, and some of Blake, and a couple of Raven. And Jaune photobombs a couple of times too. Oh, and how can I forget Zwei? He might steal this post by being too cute.

Point is, Rooster Teeth has multiple ways of making money to finance V10, but Patreon is not going to work. Its going to be too much and is not feasible. May I suggest an alternative, if you're going to try spending your time here on tumblr? If you want to use YOUR Money to help promote RWBY? Look up Tumblr Blaze. I have used it to promote Trans Rights, Black Lives Matter, Feminism, and of course RWBY. If you want to use money to get people to see RWBY? Here on Tumblr, there are millions of people who can be reached with a mere $10. Best part is, it doesn't even have to be your own post. It can be somebody else's too. I’m here to torment myself and do a TLDR/Breakdown of this.

This is gonna be long and torturous. I will try to not be biased (but I will be if something really upsets me.)

Tier 1: The Sky.

“Planned from the start.”

Planned from the start is a phrase most commonly used by RoosterTeeth and RWBY Stans especially to support the other claim of Bumblebee being a long burn ship. The counter-argument of this often goes back to the earlier days of RWBY when things such as the Maidens weren’t added in until V3.

“hbomberguy video”

A video by YouTuber hbomberguy on RWBY titled “Why RWBY Is Disappointing” was uploaded in 2021. It covers issues surrounding creative decisions from earlier RWBY Volumes. It remains debated to this day, especially when discussing Rooster Teeth and the writing of the show.

“FRWBY”

FRWBY, also known as Fixing RWBY, is a rewrite on YouTube of RWBY made by CelticPhoenix and a small group known as the SketchyHuntsmen. Starting in 2017, this series continues to be heavily debated in the fandom. It also brought up several discussions of the practice of rewriting media.

“Poser to Maya”

Volumes 1-3 of RWBY used an animation program known as Poser. It was well known for it’s exaggerated colors and overall more grainy look. Volumes 4-onward of RWBY uses an animation program known as Maya. It’s a lot smoother, handles greater details, and removes the grainy look. In V4-5, the animation in Maya was a bit choppy but has greatly improved since.

“RWDE and Anti-RWDE”

I’m going to loop these two together because of how intertwined they are. RWDE is a tag on Tumblr and other social media platforms created specifically to bring up criticism of RWBY. Anti-RWDE is the counter tag that often disagrees with the criticisms of RWDE. One thing is for certain, when RWDE and Anti-RWDE interact, it’s never pretty.

“The Propaganda In TV Shows Does Numbers on Y’all”

This phrase originated from a tweet screenshot discussing why TV shows often have minority character being bad guys to make the audience view minority people as bad. This point is most commonly brought up by RWDE posters when discussing the handling of the White Fang.

“The Granddaughter of a Hero.”

This is a quote from Weiss in V9C4 talking about her grandpa, Nicholas Schnee. She then follows up this quote with “and the daughter of a villain” in reference to Jacques Schnee. This line is debated in RWDE as framing the mega-corporation of the SDC as a good thing.

“V8 and V5”

Once more looping things together for simplicity. Volume 5 and Volume 8 are often debated as being the worst Volumes of RWBY, with Volume 8 especially bringing up several discussions of the writing choices.

“Critikal Drama”

This is in reference to when MoistCritikal streamed his reaction of RWBY V9 which led to him receiving several death threats after he critiqued the animation.

“HTDM”

The HTDM (Hatedom) is a term used to categorize people who hate on RWBY for no good reason. Although that definition has withered away from being just about trolls to people who often post RWDE or critique the show.

“#GreenlightVolume10”

#GreenlightVolume10 is a hashtag that began being posted during and after Volume 9’s release. This hashtag has been brought into question when bringing up work conditions at Rooster Teeth.

“Belts and Zippers”

This is often a joke made at the increased number of belts and zippers on character models, and it especially came up with the V7 designs.

“No Faunus”

In Volume 4, Qrow visits a bar that has a “No Faunus” sign out front. This sign was a one of a kind and never showed up again.

“GMod Cat”

This is a joke about the Curious Cat’s color scheme reminding people of the black and pink graphic missing texture most commonly seen in source games such as GMod.

“Weiss aiming her weapon at her little brother.”

In Volume 8, Weiss points her rapier at Whitley, her little brother. This is often debated as Weiss being violent towards her own brother.
