Okay

So when I say it was reader led, I mean I created a world and a plot and changed my whole blog theme for a whole month. People sent in asks, and I would answer them as if I was the characters in the story. Through this, the audience slowly revealed the plot and the world

I posted art of all the major characters, drawn in the style of as if they are being surveilled by the Facility (the research place) in the case of people on the outside, or as case reports in the case of the test subjects

The basic idea was that the Brother gods had angels that would do their bidding on Remnant and be the go between for them and humanity. (The gods were more ambivalent in this version, but it doesn’t really come up) The angels also sort of act like the Greek gods do, occasionally inter mingling with humanity to create semi-deific offspring

When the gods leave Remnant and take magic with them, it sent a ripple across the world forever altering everyone who lives there. EVERYONE was combined at a fundamental level with animals, gaining many of their physical traits and instincts. MANY more traits than Faunus’ one. For example, Ruby is a wolf hybrid and she has the hindquarters, tail, ears, little snoot, and paw pads/claws on her fingers

The angels also left with the gods, but because they weren’t fully immortal they were sort of banished to another realm. A sort of in between dimension where they can observe but not directly interfere. The audience are actually these angels!

The real problem comes from the humans/angel half breeds

Centuries passed and the bloodlines become more and more diluted. Salem, who was a little girl at the time of the cataclysm, is now an old woman. (She’s a snake hybrid so her lifespan was greatly increased. She’s had to watch everyone she loves die)

Over the centuries she was able to accrue a large amount of wealth and influence, so she starts researching the gods. And when that falls apart, she starts researching the angels. Eventually she finds out that their descendants are still around, although it’s been so long that they haven’t had abilities or wings for centuries

She puts in more money, time, and research and eventually figures out how to identify the people with latent angel DNA. And how to bring their traits to the forefront

Ironwood becomes involved at this point, seeing the program as a good way to create soldiers. Salem is just using him, but he doesn’t really care. Their first test subjects are prisoners on death row, people who if they went missing nobody would care. Hundreds of prisoners die in the Facility from failed transformations. Tyrian is the first one to survive, and the process is perfected with Hazel

(By transformation I mean multiple wings, floating rings of eyes, maws of teeth and eyes, that sort of thing. The gods angels were FULL biblically accurate)

But they have their own opinions. They’re adults. They’re incredibly strong and useful, but Salem needs minds she can mold. So she starts “recruiting” children

Cinder, Roman, Neo, Mercury, and Emerald all less than willingly join their ranks. They’re all children when they’re kidnapped, and it’s been at least fifteen years for most of them by the time the plot actually starts

The final recruit is Jaune Arc, Salem’s own grandson. He’s the perfect candidate, her own family, trusting and with latent angel traits to boot. He vanishes from his home, has his memories wiped (the only one to do so since the others don’t have a home to remember) and joins their ranks

The plot begins when one of Ironwood’s other projects, Project Achilles aka star athlete Pyrrha Nikos, makes friends with Raphael.

Salem can’t call him Jaune in case his memories come back, and the scientists only refer to them all by case number. The other angels and other employees (Pyrrha, Pietro, Penny) call him Jaune

Salem doesn’t like that Raphael is getting close to someone else, because that means he might start thinking for himself. So she has Pyrrha killed. This makes Jaune lose it and have his mind wiped AGAIN, this time of all memories of Pyrrha

And this is the final straw for Pietro Polendina. Penny is caught in the crossfire and grievously injured. And when he’s sent to check on Jaune after he’s wiped, he doesn’t remember Pyrrha. So a break out happens, and Jaune Arc Test Subject Extraordinaire arrives on Ezra Ozpin’s porch

That’s where the plot begins at least. I can’t summarize all of it, and there’s a BUNCH of stuff I missed, but that’s the beginning. If you want to read it, you can either go through the faau tag, or go to the AO3 link below

What if it was all just a dream?

Imagine if as soon as team rwby finally defeat Salem and their about to stop her for good. Then suddenly, Ruby wakes up and all of Rwby was just an insane dream.

She still wants to be a huntress, and will still be part of team rwby later but all of the events we see onscreen was just her dream. This could mean Salem might not even exist, Tyrian is just a crazy killer in Mistral, Emerald managed to ge tadopted off the streets and Cinder is just a normal girl from a normal family with no ounce of evil inside.

That would be a cool fanfic I think.

That's rich coming from people who support a company of people that ran out their only black employee, wrote about how minorities should be nice to people who are willing to enslave and murder you to "be nice" and expecting them to comply. But if violence is used in retaliation, it is the equivalent atrocity or worse, even in self-defence. 

How do you generally watch a show like RWBY and not see them treating minorities like a monolith? Minorities begged them to ge a non white writer, and they didn't wanna hear it.

And when it fumbled and people were upset at WF members tossing themselves into the slaughter or started infighting with themselves while humans got to peaceful relax in their homes? The only member who gets to choose is Blake, and she's suggesting they all silently stop fighting for equality. I didn't even get to the point where Miles Luna and Kerry excused themselves for writing minorities as a monolith and their racial struggle as pointless.

Miles wrote this: It's hard to get a movement going. Because look, everybody has lives and their lives are important. You know if you have kids or someone depending on you, you have to think about them too. It's not just your life.

Miles, people protest to their kids can have better more comfortable lives. I have no stalk in whatever fight this person is in, but I also can't believe that this person watch RWBY and thinks the criticism tag, the tag I see addressing the racism the most are more racist than the entirely of Racist Teeth.

y'know, if the RWBY-side villain actually is Merlot and not some new character made for the movie, Yang getting to pilot the bullhead like she wanted in Eclipse is hilarious foreshadowing

oh yes

i doubt it'll be a new character for the movie just because of the implied history and grudge against the heroes, that kinda setup is there for the RWBY part of the audience to go "oh hey it's that guy" (plus it'd be weird to use an established villain for the JL side of things but then make up a villain and backstory for the RWBY side)

but yeah, the idea of it being Merlot feels like a safe bet - Merlot Industries worked in a number of fields including artificial intelligence (in fact Merlot Industries are the only producer of combat androids outside of Atlas that we've seen, and they're much beefier than the Atlesian military's to boot), after all. he has reason to want payback on the team and GE's true ending (if you collect more than 30 relics) has him declare that this isn't the end before laughing maniacally, so we know he's still alive out there somewhere

the way Part 1 used flashbacks to establish the things RWBYJNR have gone through, without getting too in depth, could be used to similar effect for detailing who Merlot is and why he's involved (and actually would be far easier to do than it being Watts, who RWBYJNR... never actually meet and only see once in a recorded video on Weiss's Scroll, and that hasn't even happened yet at this point)

Do you have any complaints About rwby? Or at last something you think could’ve been done better?

A lot,of fellow rwby fans seem to agree the white fang storyline wasn’t handled very well. But at the same time I keep seeing those same people acting like ghira did nothing wrong, that Blake is some badass rebel when canon doesn’t seem to support that currently, etc.

Oh boy. Strap in for this one.

So, I thought as much as I could focus on this since I've had the flu for the past three weeks. And I realize my complaints and thoughts are very small when it comes to this particular subject. But, if you're curious, read on below the cut.

Spoilers for RWBY V1-V9, the books, and games.

So, let's just get one thing out of the way first: I loved Monty Oum's fight scenes but they hurt my eyes to watch now. And I'm not sure why. To preempt a long rant, I'll say this. I prefer the fight scenes we have in V4-V9 to the ones in V1-V3. They contain more narrative tension to me then the earlier ones (Except for the train fights in V2, and the entirety of the Fall of Beacon in V3).

I'm not a huge fan that Yang doesn't get much in V1, with a bulk of her character starting in V2. I'm even less of a fan of the fact that Weiss' racism toward Blake in V1 felt a little swept aside instead of one of the many facets of her character that evolved over time. Ice Queendom, to me, helped this a lot but there's a lot that could be said there too.

As everyone seems to hate the Jaundice part of V1, I will also throw my two cents in: it went by fast for me given V7 was my first "live" volume and I binged all the others. It could've been shortened, made way for Yang characterization or otherwise. Cardin can get yeeted into the sun for all I care.

Now, of course, there's the White Fang part of the Faunus plot. For the record, I don't think it's the WORST racism storyline or allegory attempted (See: Overwatch, Detroit: Become Human, and others for worse) but it definitely needed more polishing. Give Sienna Khan more screentime and more of a presence, show more of the distinction between Ghira, Sienna, and Adam and either 1) Make Sienna's death a full-blown fight scene and last stand, 2) A sneak attack rigged heavily in Adam's favor that gets exposed later on and causes the White Fang to disown him, or 3) Have Sienna live and aid Blake and the Faunus militia afterward.

There are other changes too, mind you, like having the White Fang under Adam express doubt in what they're doing only for Adam or Cinder to silence them or something like that. We got that with Ilia, and I love her story, but we needed some more like that.

The following are going to be under the "just bugs me" complaints, nothing too huge or rant filled and I can elaborate if needed:

I wish we got more Happy Huntresses stuff, because I find the Ace Ops/Happy Huntresses ratio in V7/V8 to be...unevenly weighted toward the Ace Ops. Understandable, but still.

I'm sure we'll get this in V10, but I'd like an update on the rest of the world's current situations. Vale, Mistral, Menagerie, the changes that occurred, etc.

I'll be happy when Penny returns or is confirmed officially to be truly dead. If the latter, I'll be complaining more about "wasted potential". If the former, I'd like to see how she'd be revived.

Summer Rose. I need more answers.

Just something fandom related: Stop going after Ghira and Tai Yang for the love of all that is holy. If you'd like examples of awful parentage, Jacques, Marcus Black, Cinder's wicked Stepmom, Neo's parents, Roman and Nora's unnamed mothers, Raven Branwen and even Lil Miss are right there. Also, Jax and Gill's guardian too.

Grimm Eclipse was fun but...wow, Arrowfell was better as a video game in a lot of ways. Told a better story than GE too.

The only thing I can complain about in the books is not giving much to Sage of Team SSSN, though given "Before the Dawn" had to juggle so many characters I'm cutting it some slack.

Obviously the obligatory "Rooster Teeth isn't a good company"/"The Upper Management are terrible" and all that jazz, please support all the staff and former who have Patreons, Kofis, Twitch Streams, etc.

That's about all I can think of. Again, I'm still addled by the flu and medication I'm taking for it.

TLDR: I just think RWBY needs...well, more of it. More time and budget and space to fully flesh out everything. What we got is superb, especially for starting so small, but I always find more better than less.

Penny was so enamored by the mere act of being called "friend" that she had to know who called her that. "Oh, I'm really sorry," Yang rushed to clarify—"I definitely didn't think you heard me!"—as Weiss pointed right at her, looking back and forth with increasing terror on her face. "There's no need to apologize!" Penny nodded. "I say things that I do not think others would hear, too!" Weiss hyperventilated as Penny approached Yang. At first Yang had no idea what had happened. She filled in for her sister, who stumbled in her speech, but surely Penny could differentiate between Ruby's words and her own, right? Right?

I am one of the most outspoken dislikers of Tai and a quick scan of my recent post history doesn't indicate use of the term resentment. I would also note that Yang in V2's resentment regarding Raven didn't look like snippy anger either. People contain multitudes, especially main characters.

(Shrugs) You're the one who demanded certain behavior for Yang to qualify as having suffered parentification. I highlighted why that argument sounds bad and drew a comparison that would be easy to understand. If you want to make that into something its not then that is on you.

Oh fun your post and then lying about my friend sure as hell pissed me off too.

Yang didn't have anger issues, a woman expressing anger is not an issue. Yang never lashed out at or hurt people in anger outside of combat scenarios. We see her express anger to get the frustration ot and then move on. Even Blake who was expressly traumatized by and afraid of anger, doesn't fear Yang's anger, the closest she came was in V2 and even then it was used strategically to demonstrate how Blake was endangering herself and then offset with a hug.

Yang had just been framed, lost an arm, lost her new home and was abandoned by her partner. Your total lack of empathy for the girl and dogged defense of her minor character father is confounding

The apathy, you mean those things that were explicitly effecting everyone's moods save Ruby 7 Maria's because they have magic eyes? That is your evidence?

You couldn't even provide episodes or scenes, though I assume in V5, you mean her being upset when Blake was brought up then instantly removing herself from the situation? Gee its almost like she hadn't actually recovered from her trauma but forced herself back out there to protect Ruby because their father wasn't doing it.

Ruby was fine talking to Yang about all her issues until she started taking on all the worlds burdens as her own. Which also coincided with Yang showing vulnerability and weakness that Ruby was not used to seeing and clearly had zero idea how to deal with.

You consider a stress induced meltdown to be accurate? What, do you think Ruby is homphobic too? I only ask cos you seem to be throwing out all the usual garbage that RWDE/HTDM do, I almost want to check if you have a Rewrite going.

He.. He literally was, that is why they are both used to Qrow being brought home black out drunk by strangers! We don't even see Tai until Volume 3 and his intro scene is having taken only Ruby to visit Summer's grave, giving a pretty clear indication of which child he prefers.

Your claims that Tai is a good dad who never neglected his daughters and that Yang didn't suffer from parentification makes them liars.

Yang outlining that she had to keep the family together and Ruby saying that Yang raised her were not them referencing brief moments of change in their childhood that only lasted a small time. That was the perpetual state of things, much as it is now. Hence Tai not going after them.

I love that you say you don't call them liars and then literally do it by claiming Ruby only said what she did to make Yang feel better. Like, even ignoring that being a totally baseless reading of the text with zero support, the fact you can say in one sentence you don't call them liars and then establish a headcnaon where Ruby lies... I mean its rather reflective of our entire approach.

Namely, ignore what is on screen, ignore what the characters say, ignore who the actual main characters are, frame everything via misrepresentation or lies to be about Tai and how amazing he is. As though this show isn't called RWBY.

That's not what the characters said, or what their words indicates~ and the main characters words matter more than your headcanons about a minor character~

Because the team was in an alien, magical fantasy land on a timed clock to get out. Because Yang actually did check in with Ruby and did try to reach out to her and Ruby kept shutting down any effort to comfort her, ask after her, or otherwise talk to her.

While Tai left a 5 and 3 year old in a Grimm infested forest alone while grieving for hours on end and then left the 5 year old to do the parenting, despite being an adult, not on a time limit, with access to other resources & support, & is continuing to rely on Yang to parent to this day.

Your counter argument's are farcical because they don't actually address anything I say. You just accuse me of being awful and then create elaborate, baseless and nonsensically negative interpretations of Yang and go "See!" even while obviously believing these things to be true given your hateful little notes in the post you made lying about my friend:

genuine question: do people want bad, inconsistent writing? is that it? because that's the only way "taiyang is and always has been a horrible father and yang had to raise ruby all on her own and she resent him for it" makes any damn sense.

where is yang, while happy that ruby is one step closer to achieving her lifelong dream, feeling just slightly frustrated that she's once again sharing a room with her sister, when going to beacon was supposed to be a place just for her for at least two years without having to watch after ruby and feel guilty over it?

where's the resentment when tai sent zwei to the girls to be taken care of while he's away on a mission, placing that responsibility on yang again? why show yang instead being flippant about the whole ordeal, and shrugging it off like it's nothing, being ready to leave zwei alone in the dorm room for the week they're away because he has the absurd amount of food and a can opener tai provided them?

where's yang bringing up how she had to apparently grow up early because tai wasn't there, when she wanted to be treated like an adult?

where's the resentment when yang was about to leave home under the assumption it was her keeping her father from going after ruby, only to find out he isn't coming with her, once again leaving the responsibility of taking care of ruby on her shoulders?

because the show i watched, it doesn't exist. to even remotely get to that point you'd have to ignore ruby talking about their dad in a way that makes it clear he was present and raising them, you'd have to ignore yang having to wait for him to be out of the house to leave herself once again proving he was present and attentive of them, you'd have to ignore ruby's first happy memory being from that same time period (and with no corresponding sad memory to counter it), you'd have to ignore him reading them bedtime stories and taking them out for boba after school, making sure he's spending time with them even when he's busy with work.

you'd have to ignore that both yang and ruby have a good relationship with their father.

that is not to say tai doesn't have his flaws—every damn character in this show does—, but that's exactly what V4 is about. the rift that existed between yang and taiyang was his refusal to talk about raven and doing his best to prevent her from looking for her. that's it. just compare the difference in tone between yang's "oh, so now we can talk about her?" and "i don't know. some things you just need to be there for." and it's clear as a day where the resentment actually lies.

therein lies the core of the arc between yang and tai, and like many issues between characters in this show, it gets resolved: for the first time ever, he properly talks with yang about raven, and when yang is about to leave, he doesn't try to stop her like he has before; instead, he asks her where she's going, and gives information that might help make her journey easier.

if they intended there to be any lingering resentment from yang, 'boba' was not the way to do it. we know what yang's resentment looks like: anger, snappiness, the like. it's not quiet, almost somber.

they could have written yang treating tai's absence in vacuo as something she has come to expect from him, but they didn't; instead, she wonders why, because she can't fathom what could be more important for their father than being there, in vacuo, with them.

and that alone comes as validation for everyone who has wondered the same: why is tai staying in patch when everyone else is on the move? this is a character we're first properly introduced to as a father who has fallen asleep by his daughter's bedside waiting for her to wake up, a father who is almost brought to tears by relief that both of his daughters are back home and safe.

a father we last saw being absolutely desperate for his daughter to come back on screen when ruby's message cut short.

and beyond brings a sledgehammer and says yes, it is odd that taiyang hasn't left home to be by his daughters' side. wonder why that is, must be something important, wink wink ;)

and if you ask me, that sounds like a pretty damn good "long con", and damn good writing.
