Our latest YouTube video: NYC Neon, Smoked Salmon & Guitars is now live on our JamesandKarla channel! In this special extended NYC Neon video, we not only visit a neon shop in TriBeCa, but also visit many independently-owned businesses in the Lower East Side, which feature neon signage created or restored by the same shop.

We start the day with a visit to Let There Be Neon on White Street and have a special guest with us, Josh from @sign_of_the_time on Instagram. We go inside this neon fabrication and design studio, speak with the owner, Jeff Friedman about some of the vintage signs he has both restored, designed and fabricated for iconic New York City mom-and-pop businesses and also get a tour of their front gallery, art, layout, design and fabrication shops and watch tube benders at work.

We then walk to Russ & Daughters Appetizers Shop on East Houston Street, where we look at their beautifully restored vintage neon sign and go inside this iconic appetizing shop to see the wide variety of smoked salmon, lox, herring, caviar, breads, nuts and fruits they sell. We also watch carefully as Herman Vargas, the long-time manager at the shop lovingly creates the perfect bagel, smoked salmon, cream cheese, tomato and onion sandwich for us, which we eat outside.

After having our amazing smoked salmon bagel sandwich, we walk to Rivington Guitars on East 4th Street, where we look at all of the neon signage that Let There Be Neon created for the shop. We also go inside Rivington Guitars where we not only have a chance to see their vintage electric guitar inventory but also speak with the owner, Howie Statland, who also plays some of his favorite guitars for us and our dog Hudson. We take a short walk with Howie Statland to his Rivington Guitars Unplugged Acoustic store just a few doors down on East 4th Street and look at the neon signage Let There Be Neon also created for this shop and go inside to see Howie's extensive vintage acoustic guitar inventory.

We then take a stroll down Orchard Street to Jimmy Webb's rock and roll clothing shop, I NEED MORE and look at the bright pink neon signage Let There Be Neon created for the shop.

We end the day with a visit to Russ and Daughters Cafe on Orchard Street, where we not only see its neon sign facing Allen Street, created by Let There Be Neon, but also go inside the cafe and see its gorgeous interior and some of the specialties they offer. We also purchase to take away and eat outside, their delicious Babka Ice Cream Sandwich, made with their homemade Chocolate Babka and small-batch Babka Ice Cream.
