It’s hard to focus on both of them at once.

America is acutely aware that there’s a Makarov PM in his mouth, probably loaded, with the safety off. At the same time, he can feel Russia continually skimming the switchblade over the rest of his body. It’s random and abrasive. The blade scrapes along his skin sometimes, others it cuts into him mercilessly. He has no idea if there’s any meaning to it; a pattern, words, or just whatever spot Russia feels like claiming. All the while he sucks and laps at the barrel of the gun, and Soviet Union’s hand keeps his head rigidly pointing forward. America takes in the military stiffness of Soviet Union’s uniform pants, the absolute stillness of his body. His own trembles.

Why do we have to segregate this ship fandom just bc of top/bottom preference tho..both are good. Popularity has nothing to do with it if it makes you happy.

I do understand the desperation of wanting to see things you love have more coverage. But doing so by only saying "this should be more popular than that!!" "Why is that more popular than this?" continuously is just like whining imo. The more productive way is to make fanworks or opinion post why your fave thing is great.

BUT dont do it while dragging other "more popular" thing down bc you will piss other people that way, making people less likely to consider your opinion. For example dont do things like "this is better because that thing sucks/overrated". "I dont understand why that thing is more popular than this".

For example my NOTP just happens to be the most popular ship in western hetalia fandom but I never try to make RusAmeRus more popular by making posts comparing it to the NOTP/dragging the NOTP down. I focus on elaborating why RusAmeRus is great because it's great in itself. Not because it's better/more superior than my NOTP bc shipping is all about preference so it's all subjective.

All in all we both love seeing aph america and aph russia together so why do we have to focus on difference of preference in seeing who top/bottom? Why cant we just focus on discussing why we love them together.

I'm surprised by rusame being one of the popular ships because russia's history is deeply intertwined with communism (at least a century). Also, america basically messed with nations that russia is close to( serbia, China, syria) etc. So, idk how it got popular. Russia ships with serbia, India and china make more sense but they are not common (except for rochu).

That’s the thing anon I think: opposites/rivalry ships are insanely hot, especially if some hate is involved. I myself think that USSR era Rusamerus is the era that makes most sense when it comes to shipping Rusamerus, just on the grounds that they were equal during this time. Tho I’m still on fence personally whether they hooked up or not during that time in my own universe; but I THINK there was some active crush or just plain obsession involved. Or maybe they mistook obsession as crush, who knows.

Also bc this fandom is full of westerners: this is my hunch, but I thinkkkk part of why Rusame is a big ship is also the fact that it’s with the knowledge that… communism, or at least USSR, would die. Russian Federation even came out of it being a temporary whore of America. Win-win from Alfred’s POV (which most westerners operate under) at least until the 2000s ahah.
