“He’s going to be okay.” Luca murmurs, reaching out to put a steadying hand on his arm. “You’ve gotta ease up a little, sweetheart. The kid doesn’t know you and his hackles are up.”

“He almost wasn’t.” Rocker says, closing his eyes. Nothing had terrified him as much as hearing Tommy’s voice on the radio and the sound of someone beating him to a pulp. “You like him?”

“Buck?” Luca shrugs in response. “Don’t know him yet. First impression is that he’s cool. Trying to keep himself busy so he’s not overcome with worry, you know?”

“Yeah. I get that.” Rocker chuckles bitterly. Their kitchen has probably never looked so clean. “Let’s feed them before Tommy starts bitching.” He grabs a couple of plates and tucks bottled waters under his arms, heading for the living room. Tommy’s in his favorite armchair, an old recliner that he’d salvaged and restored as a project with Genie. Rocker will have to take a picture for her later. Buck’s right next to him, quickly getting up and taking their plates with a stuttered thanks.

“Sorry to bypass the introductions.” Rocker tells Buck as they sit on the couch. “You’ve met Luca, my partner.”

“We talked while you guys were saying bye to Genie.” Luca says, smiling easily. “Buck was telling me he’s also a firefighter. At Tommy’s old station, if you can believe that.” Working under Captain Bobby Nash, if Rocker remembers correctly.

“Oh, I’ve seen him in action.” Rocker says, taking a bite of food.

“You…you have?” Buck’s face scrunches in confusion and Rocker hums, nodding. He can see the appeal to Tommy - the kid’s cute.

Favorite Piece of Gameplay Music: Scutum - Decisive Battle. Pour one out for Rebirth having the fucking BEST battle theme ever.

Most Shocking Reveal: ??? I'm... not sure at this point. Giet??? was it Senel??? maybe Mathias and Ruca??? Ratatosk and Emil??? I kind of want to say Ratatosk and Emil because I remember being very impressed with the direction of the plot, in that the main protagonist/player character was actually the villain the whole time that the antagonist was trying to kill the whole time. definitely not a plot direction you usually get in JRPGs. Giet's story still hit like an entire brick building 100 storeys high falling on me though

Favorite One on One Fight: that was actually FUN??? uhhh idk Vicious against Kasque. what did you expect me to say???

Favorite Skit: way too many skits to have even a semblance of an idea. I'm going to assume it was either something related to Yuri and Flynn, Moses, Vicious, Spada or Stahn. that's about the closest I can pinpoint

Favorite Tales Spell: I don't... think I have one...

Favorite Tales Weapon: -bangs fist on desk and gets really obvious really fast- BLOOD SINS, BLOOD SINS, BLOOD SINS. after that the Swordians

Tales World You Want to Live In: honestly Legendia's and Graces' seem the most reasonably normal compared to the rest, but also shiny fingertips and Moses is a pretty solid Legendia

Favorite Animated Tales Series/OVA: (don't say rays don't say rays don't say rays don't say stahn/leon) probably First Strike if only because it focuses on Yuri and Flynn who I love, but Abyss' anime was very solid compared to the other Tales animated series that were just heavily condensed versions (or worse in Eternia's case, not even being relevant to the main story). like, I would not recommend the animated series to anyone prior to playing the game except for Abyss, which is the full major story and I have inarguably rewatched that anime more than I've played the game. I guess in terms of general animated, FS, but in terms of actual consistency to the game it came from and dedication it had in retelling the story faithfully without skipping 80 percent of it, Abyss

Favorite Tales Outfit: RICHARD??? HEEEELLO??? not arc F though that shit is too fruity for me. also Leon has VERY enjoyably bright colors that make him stand out and as a Very Deeply Definitely Not Obsessive Leon Enjoyer, I very much love that. Aegis also has a really nice outfit. Asbel's is pretty but definitely not Richard level of I'm obsessed with this look

Favorite Game Plot: -breaks everything in your room and your neighbor's room for good measure- TURN IT BACK ON NAMCO I'M PAST MY LIMIT SO I'M PROBABLY IN OVERLIMIT (Crestoria. it's that or I'm saying Legendia again. Innocence and Hearts both are really close runner ups tho!!! definitely the most unique in the franchise imo out of the mainline games and sadly confined to "nobody fucking cares about them and never did")

Favorite Game Ending: so that's got... layers. it really depends on the sub topic. I guess in terms of a happy ending, Graces (the Wii version specifically, getting Richard back. don't really care for the ending of arc F and lean more toward disliking it). in terms of a depressing fucking ending that makes me Very Upsetti, Destiny. there is literally nothing happy about Destiny's ending for me. like yeah we saved the world, but at a LOT of cost and it's just depressing. I've wanted to make a post about that anyway, but basically it's a type of ending they don't really make anymore (especially in Tales), and the emotional impact for me was a lot heavier than the other games, with Destiny 2 lingering right behind it. both Destiny games were just DEPRESSING, and no matter how bittersweet Destiny 2's ending was, it's still DEPRESSING. Vesperia at least had a more outright happy ending (that wasn't completely changed by a post game ending arc with a totally different ending) and I finally at that point didn't lose my favorite character to Certain Final Boss Death or Recurring Side Character I Came To Love Dying Unceremoniously and Undeserved. only a couple of top favorites actually came out of their games alive for me by Vesperia in terms of games I know + release timeline (to put it into perspective, by the time of Vesperia in release order (so not the order I played in bc I don't really remember the whole actual order at this point), out of all the games I know, my favorite character death toll was five to three survivors not counting Vesperia. still haven't played Eternia so I'm not counting that one). so I guess like, my answer is a whacky combination of Graces for the Wii, Destiny and Vesperia. maybe if Hearts hadn't killed my mans off then it could've had it all. 😔

ok I FINALLY caught up (just before the s4 finale too let's go) and there's so much I need to say!! firstly, like always, the writing is just next level like I've laughed, I've cried, I've stared at my phone in shock I love this universe so much. idk where to actually start so this is so out of order and so long sorry but kenneth!! that whole plot was so sad but the resolution was so cathartic and lucas and grace becoming kinsleys is so beautiful and I'm so proud of him reclaiming himself. CHARLIE!! my jaw dropped when he came out to eleanor I wasn't expecting it but I'm so proud of my boy!! like he deserves to be happy and who he is!!!! him and zay oh I love them so, I'm so excited to see if zay's going on tour or not but I hope they're ok either way. FARKLE!! MY ORIGINAL BOY!! I was rooting for him and isa so much and I just want him to be happy. also ik I said this on ig but as a longtime stuart and jennifer fan I wanna again thank u for making him an absolute wifeguy it's so cute and actually makes a lot of sense (like no wonder u two have six kids 😭) and since gmw were cowards and never gave us their backstory I'm now accepting ambition as canon and I also eagerly await their spin off sksfjksk. anyway back to the main plot rucas I'm always rooting for u, riley matthews ik ur gonna do what's best for u both in or not in california!! the jeric wedding was sooo beautiful and rae!! maybe I'm name biased but I loved her, her connection to lucas was so sweet. super excited to see where josh and maya goes and yindra!! they could all work for the same label which would be so fun!! yes on the friar plotline!! that piece of this world has truly been slow burning for years -- all the way back to season 1 -- and it was so cathartic to finally bring some clarity and closure to it. i can definitely say that writing 410 and 411 were challenging but also some of my favorite episodes to craft in the entire series (and, dare i say, some of our best). i'm so glad it landed and is paying off. it was so meaningful to start getting to write lucas james kinsley in the following episodes instead.

can't even get into the zc of it all i'm so *dial up noises* about them. make me insane, truly. it's been a long, hard-fought journey but oh did we get here. i'm so proud of both of them for the growth -- ESPECIALLY charlie, as you said. he's come so far (even if there remains tribulations to face, i.e., eleanor)

it's definitely been so fun to bring the minkus clan to life over the last five years. they are a unique, intriguing, colorful cast of side characters (just like the gardners), and i'm so happy that we have readers like you who enjoy even those details in our story universe. 😊 their dynamic as a family has certainly come a long way since the pilot too.

Long version below cut bc there will be a lot of messy rambling (also these are all just my opinions!!! I have no beef with people that love other ships besides the ones mentioned here!!!! ship and let ship!!!! /nm)

I could write a whole essay on lucas and maya, but have you seen the music video for mine by Taylor Swift????? That’s all that needs to be said. tons of other people in the gmw fandom have noticed the same thing (which is basically going to be the thesis for this whole post) which is that Riley likes the idea of Lucas, but Maya likes Lucas. We know two characters that Maya canonically has some pretty big feelings for, Josh and Lucas. (also I know there are a lot of inconsistencies in both the bmw and gmw canon so we all have to take some stuff with a grain of salt) Josh is 3 or 4 years older than Maya and Riley, who are 12/13 at the beginning of the show, and Maya's clearly had a crush on him for a while. I think this boils down to three reasons: Josh is older than her, he comes from a stable family, and he's unattainable.

we know Maya's dad left when she was little, and her mom works a lot so she's not around much. most of the stability in Maya's life comes from the Matthews, so you can't say it wouldn't be appealing for someone in that situation to think "if me and Josh got married I'd be part of the Mattews family forever" (kind of a hyperbolic example but you get where I'm going with this) I don't want to say everything in Maya's live boils down to daddy issues bc that wouldn't be doing her justice, but it's obvious from her backstory and actions that she craves safety and stability, just like a lot of other people who have unstable homelives do. We know her whole hope is for suckers thing, we know that she's been let down by everyone around her (except the matthews) again and again, we know she doesn't let herself want or hope for things, so why would she openly crush on Josh, especially in front of Riley?? Because on some level, she KNOWS Josh is unattainable, which means he's safe to have a crush on. It's like if she crushed on a celebrity or character from their space drama or something. Josh is safe for her to have a crush on because there's no chance it would ever happen (i'm not going to get into the writers wackass decisions or the whole "long game" bullshit).

Maya likes Lucas for similar reasons: he's strong and protective while being patient and kind and not agressive (unless he's protecting someone), he's a stable and predictable person, he's consistent. The biggest differences between her crushes on Josh and Lucas, is that she knew Lucas isn't just an option, but he's a good option. He meets all her criteria (he's even a year older than her) but he's actually within the realm of attainability. Lucas is this almost cartoonish monument of everything Maya craves, everything she knows she needs inside to become a better person. He's even good at the school subjects that she hates. Not only that, but the way they interact really speaks volumes about their chemistry and compatability. The way he catches her in his hand during the marble episode is a perfect example of how well they understand each other (I haven't rewatched the show in a hot minute so I don't have as many canon examples), he knows Maya hates science, he knows she finds it boring, and what gets me every time is that he thinks it's cute.

Lucas thinks every single thing that anyone else would view as a personality flaw or try to change about Maya is cute. He plays along, he banters back with her, he never gets annoyed or impatient because he likes her. He sits there and takes every single roast and zing and hopalong ranger rick cowboy hahurrr jab she can possibly come up with, he fights a smile through the whole thing, and then he tilts his imaginary cowboy hat right back at her. Because he knows she's going to make that irritated little noise and not have a comeback. If he didn't want her to keep doing stuff like that, he wouldn't flirt back, he wouldn't keep starting all his sentances with "back in texas" whenever she's in the room and give her opportunities to do that. Lucas wants Maya to do that, and Maya can't help herself from making jabs and jokes because she's repressing the biggest feelings she's ever had in her life and they're going to come out in little bursts whether she likes it or not.

She has to repress the obvious feelings and chemistry she and Lucas have for each other because of Riley. it's no secret, it's a major plot of the second (??) season, when they're in texas and Riley realizes Maya doesn't have shallow feelings for Lucas, and finally pieces together why. Riley is a very flawed character. Granted, a lot of her flaws are enabled by everyone around her and get worse than they might have been because of how coddled she is, but the fact remains that she can be incredibly selfish, self centered, and borderline delusional. If everything's not perfect in rileytown, if someone deviates from the rigid scripts she's written about how the people in her life should be, god forbid if they try to grow or change from the box she keeps them in in her head, EVERYTHING is going to go to shit in a matter of minutes. Riley's friends and family playing along is the only thing holding everything together. Riley has a very rigid idea of what life and the people around her need to be like, and this can be detremental to people like Maya, who need room to grow. I feel like Riley sort of sees her friends as accessories, and not as individuals and people on their own paths with their own hopes and dreams.

There's a whole episode where Riley freaks out about needing to follow in her perfect parents perfect footsteps, find someone perfect to date right now, and be with them for the rest of their lives. Riley looks at Lucas and sees a perfect pretty knight in shining armor. She sees a flash forward where he's a vet and they live in a little suburban house in rileytown and have 2.5 purple cats and everything is perfect forever. She effectively calls dibs on Lucas because she thinks he's the logical choice, she should choose to have a crush on him, and go through the motions of happy suburban life just like her parents did. She's going to manually fall in love with him and they'll like each other forever and nothing bad will happen because she's following the plan. Do you want to know what that sounds like to me????

Riley's whole personality is about being deep in denial. She couldn't handle pluto being declassified as a planet, she lives in such a state of delusion it's referred to as rileytown, and as we've seen time and time again, she's incapable of differing from the plan and the rules and not sitting through class with her hands resting on her desk folded like so. The other half of Riley's personality is Maya. She goes from being deeply obsessed with how cool Maya is, how she wants to be just like her (she wants to be a kiwi lipgloss wearing subway riding cool girl like Maya), to having one of the worst savior complexes regarding Maya that I've ever seen. Tons of people have pointed out that when Maya's life started to stabilize, when she started getting consistency from somewhere other than Riley, when she started getting to choose what clothes she wore instead of getting whatever she could find at a thrift store, when good things started happening to her and she suffered less, Riley accused Maya of becoming her.

A lot of people have made really good points about this already, so I'll keep it brief: in Riley's world, Maya can only exist in proximity to her, and that exact proximity is as the broken damaged bad girl miserable artist who can only strive for happiness, never achieve it. They make a big deal on the show about Riley being this big ball of sunshine and happiness all the time. It's part of her personality, which to Riley, that means if Maya is happy it's because she's copying Riley. What I think is especially interesting is the way Riley's feelings for Maya turned from obsession to needing to save her. You know what it reminds me of? Peach and Beck from season one of you. A clingy brunette that needs to take care of her hot mess blonde bestie because she's incapable of taking care of herself, but it's really because Riley/Peach need to be the most important person in Maya/Beck's life, because Riley and Peach are both deep in the closet and in love with their best friend. I feel like in Riley's case it's the kind of thing where she'll only look back and go "oh yeah wow... that wasn't as platonic as I thought it was..." years down the line when she's happily dating her future girlfriend.

The question is why does Lucas keep ending up with Riley in his lap (literally in the case of the subway). It's because Maya is consistently pushing them together for a majority of the show. I wouldn't be surprised if she started roasting Lucas in the hopes of making him like Riley more. Maya has been suppressing the biggest, most important feelings of her life from day one because of Riley. Maya knows that if she went after Lucas, or even implied she liked him at all, it would kill Riley. Someone said Riley would see that as betrayal and I couldn't agree more. Maya knows Riley, she knows how she thinks and what she wants. Maya knows the magnitutde of hurt it would cause Riley, and Maya can't do that to her. The matthews are the only stability she has in her life, and if she did that to Riley, it would feel like spitting in the face of the only people who gave a shit about her. Maya has to be selfless so Riley can be selfish. If I'm being honest, it really boils down to emotional maturity. Maya has the emotional maturity to see things clearly and make silent sacrifices for the people she cares about, and Riley doesn't. iirc there's an episode where Riley won't let Maya go get food so they can look for Riley's teddy bear. That whole situation describes their friendship better than I could.

I’m attempting to write another scrap for my version of the self-aware au.

If falling through the tv screen into Hisui had been uncomfortable, being gently shoved (pulled? carried?) back out is so much worse. You can barely keep from throwing up all over the floor. Ingo sets you down in one of the chairs and the Riolu hops up next to you to snuggle, and you rest a hand on its’ head as you glance at the clock. It’s night, late at night. How long have you been gone from your world? As the nausea and dizziness flare again, you decide that that is a problem for future-you. Right now, you have more immediate concerns.

You take a deep breath and direct Ingo to hand you the bright-colored soft-sided cooler box you store your meds in. You unzip the cooler and reach inside, snagging both the anti-nausea and and your daily med box. The anti-nausea is slipped under your tongue to dissolve, and you open one each of both of the ‘day’ and ‘night’ compartments. You pick out the meds you need from the collection, then swallow them with practiced ease. You wave towards a package of bread on the counter. “lngo, can you hand me that?”

“Of course,” Ingo replies, quickly handing it over. You open it and grab a couple of slices, then hold it out towards him. “Would you like some?” you ask. “It will be some time before I can make us actual food.”

Ingo politely takes two slices and you close the package back up. You eat slowly, needing to cushion the meds, but not wanting to overload your system. You rub your face and run a hand through your hair then focus on Ingo. “Okay,” you start, trying to force your thoughts into some semblance of organization. “First things first, what do we do with you? And with Ruca, here,” you gesture to the Riolu which but this point has climbed fully into your lap and shoved her head up under your chin.

OOOH THIS IS GOOD

I imagine in this scenario, there is a lot of confusion going on. Ingo is with you! But... There is a lot happening. It’s cute him taking care of you though. He would do anything to protect you and have you feel better. He’d be at your beck and call too in your own home, probably fretting like a mother hen. And the Riolu is so cute. A cute friend who cares about you so much ;w; Ingo would probably fight and beg to stay with you. Even if he has to sleep in his world, he wants to help you, make sure you are okay. Especially since you both can travel between worlds. That, and keep an eye out. Just because he’s the only self aware one he’s aware of, doesn’t mean he might be the only one self aware. Someone has to protect you! Though you having a pokemon now definitely helps. You have someone to protect you if he has to leave, if you choose to keep the Riolu with you. HSMTMTS 2x05 Review

The Quinceañero was a truly historic ep featuring the first time two boys have ever kissed on a Disney show. Let’s dig in!

We got the second same-sex kiss in Disney history tonight, Big Shot had the first last Friday, and the first kiss between two boys in Disney history. It’s a huge step forward. That’s not to say that Disney is going to start approving more same-sex kisses or lgbtq relationships or characters but the door is now open and at least some other shows and movies will be able to eventually follow in HSMTMTS steps.

Really nice cover of The Climb, Joe has such a great voice. It was cute that young Seb had watched young Carlos’ dance vid and felt inspired. Frankie and Joe being an irl couple certainly helps give Seblos a good rapport but it also helps that creator and showrunner Tim Federle is an openly gay man himself. I think if a straight man was showrunner we probably wouldn’t get such dedication to Seblos as a couple. 

It was a really funny ep too: Carlos saying his love language is riddles, Ricky asking Nini who they talk to when doing their confessionals, Carlos saying Miss Jenn was a master of smoke and mirrors, Benjamin Mazzara and Mike Bowen interacting. My personal favourite gags were when Big Red said he always wanted a nickname and Kourtney immediately did an office stare and when Nini said Picasso was a terrible person.

Gina still going through it. Kourtney is right that it doesn’t really make sense that Gina is now going to all this trouble for Carlos but to be honest the writing and pacing has been disjointed so far this season so a lot of things aren’t flowing as well as they need to. Is what Gina regrets convincing Ricky to go back on stage as that helped get Rini back together? That’s petty but fair and also true to teenage emotions (though she shouldn’t beat herself up too much, Rini were clearly on the path to getting back together by that point anyway).

Jesus Christ, Ricky needs to read the room. Last ep he correctly realized that Gina wouldn’t want to hear about his Nini issues and tried to stop Big Red from mentioning them but now he’s just doing it himself? Obviously they’re trying to drill in the fact that for now Rina is one sided but it’s a little much. Also really doesn’t make sense that Ricky wouldn’t go to Kourtney or Big Red for this kind of advice.

Sofia Wylie was killing it this ep, both her and Joe are showstoppers. A Dancer’s Heart was great and she did a good job of acting on the verge of tears almost the entire ep

At least EJ actually thought to ask Gina how she’s feeling though and she clearly appreciated it after she got over her shock. It does seem that reports of Portwell’s demise were greatly exaggerated, with the music and the longing stares they’re setting up for at least EJ to have a crush on Gina. Hell even Mazzara picked up on it at the end. I had noted last week that it seemed like Gina’s story line in S2 was being thrown out of balance by the writers dropping a planned Portwell plot and sure enough this week we actually begin to see Gina’s story arc not being entirely her pining over Ricky. 

EJ also benefits by being given something to do instead of just standing around in the back. I’m glad he took Mazzara up on the AV club offer and they have a nice mentor-mentee relationship going on. It’s also a nice little parallel with 1x05 when Gina told off EJ and had a moment with Ricky and now in 2x05 Gina tells off Ricky and has a moment with EJ. 

Matt seemingly dismissed Portwell as a friendship rather than even hinting at something between them. I guess he could have been told to keep it under wraps as much as possible but odd that they wouldn’t hype it a bit; it’s not like this came completely out of left field, people were wondering if Portwell might happen because of the moment they had in 1x10 and the facetime call they had before S2. Sofia has already said that Gina will have love interests this season and EJ being one, even if it’s brief, would make whole lot of sense since there’s really no one else for except Jack who only shows up much later and doesn’t seem to be in more than an ep or two.

Rini was sweet tonight. Yes Ricky is being clingy which stems in large part from his mom’s abandonment and in fairness Ricky and Nini have probably been used to spending much of their time with each other since they were kids. Loved that ‘I think you kinda you know’’ call back tonight. Looks like Nini will be cast as the Rose which should be interesting.

Miss Jenn is pulling Mike Bowen, Ben Mazzara, and Zach Roy. Good for her! Jike shippers certainly feasted tonight as Mike crashed a teen bday party just to see Miss Jenn and we got confirmation that everyone’s fave Disney Dilf was born in the 70s and must be no older than 51.

Well gotta love Lily’s commitment to bringing down East High and drinking scalding hot black coffee. She really seems like she just stepped off the set of Glee

Really hope we see those puppies and man was that wolf adorable

Not both HSMTMTS and Love Victor both making Okay Boomer jokes (it worked when Pilar said it to Felix but not when Ricky said it to his dad)

Big Red exposing Kourtney and Howie was good and it looks like their plot kicks into high gear next ep

Bet Tim thought he was real clever for that shot of Mazzara, Mike, and Miss Jenn in a triangle

A well shot ep except for one weird  and abrupt cut from Mazzara saying Caswell to Seblos outside the barn

Looking Ahead:

EJ stopping Gina from leaving would certainly further their relationship and would parallel him being the one to bring her back in S1. I still don’t get why they didn’t just use the Valentine’s chocolates as a plot device to further this plot; just have EJ secretly send them as he was also lonely and you can still have Gina think they were from Ricky.

From what I’ve seen online this Portwell hint has been controversial. It’s true that there’s an age gap between the characters of 2ish years and a much bigger one between the actors but I don’t think that will stop Tim as he already had EJ date Nini. I’ve also seen comments that it would be a bad idea since EJ is leaving at the end of S2 once he graduates but he’s not actually leaving, they’ll keep him around in some fashion until the current juniors graduate. 

So far it seems like Rini is the Rucas of hsmtmts, Rina is the Lucaya, and Portwell is the Joshaya.

Kowie starts progressing a bit next ep and we may possible see Antoine next week or the week after according to Larry.

Presumably Ricky’s clinginess starts causing trouble between him and Nini.

Still so funny that North High just up and decided to do Beauty and the Beast just to bring down East High.

A brief summary of Asteria - Recollections of Eden (Part One)

Like a lot of Western Tales fans I saw this image of Lloyd from the Japanese mobile game Tales of Asteria and wondered what the deal was with Lloyd fighting Colette and Mikleo;

I recently got to play Asteria for myself and spent hours using the google translate app on my phone to read it so I could find out. Because I can’t see much else online about this arc I thought I’d summarise here what I read but I’ve mostly concentrated on the Symphonia characters because that’s what interested me (sorry). I would recommend reading and translating for yourself if there’s other characters you want to know more about.

This is going to be long so I’ll split this into multiple posts! Here’s part one. Apologies in advance for the bad screenshots my phone camera isn’t the best.

Arc 1 and 2 in Asteria are mostly separate to this and you don’t need to know much about them except Colette and Lloyd had a story similar to that in Symphonia (Lloyd is Colette’s protector, Zelos betrays them at one point etc). They meet other characters along the way like Rita so they’re familiar with people outside their canon game. Arc 3 ends with Van (the villain of the arc) using Lazaris’ power to crystallise the world, and everyone living there. I believe the reason was to create a world without war. He and Lazaris then re-awaken some people but their memories are altered. Sorey and Velvet seem to be two of the only people at the beginning who have memories of the original Arc 1-3 because they escaped notice. (I didn’t read this part too deeply, apologies that could be a little wrong). The name of this new world is Entelestia!

We find Colette living in Orsha Village with her best friend Cheria, without memories of their past lives. In this world Lazaris is worshipped by the people as their emperor and Colette makes a flower crown, wanting to travel to the city and give it to Lazaris in person. Cheria says she will accompany her.

(Colette also makes a bouquet for Cheria.. so cute)

They travel to a nearby town called Falcham which Lazaris is visiting and with Ruca’s knowledge of the back streets they get to meet her. When Colette comes face-to-face with Lazaris though she gets a strange feeling and it seems to be mutual. Lazaris leaves after just a few words and Colette was so caught up she was unable to hand over the bouquet she made.

That night Colette tells Cheria she could sense Lazaris’ feelings when they met and that she the woman seemed lonely. 

Colette wants to continue following Lazaris and Cheria tells Colette that she might be able to get closer to her if she becomes a shrine priestess. There is an exam she has to pass first though and being a good friend Cheria says she will also take the exam with Colette so she doesn’t have to do it alone.

They travel to the capital city Shangrace, which has an uneasy air due to a recent jailbreak (Velvet was captured but Raven broke her out of prison a few days prior to this part) and head to the palace but they don’t know where to go. While here Colette runs into-

We find out there are a group of Knights called ‘The White Lions’ and Fang is the captain of them (or maybe just a group of them? It was a little unclear). Their main job seems to be protecting the capital and Lazaris so Lloyd/Fang is a bit of a celebrity in this new world.

When Cheria sees them together she misunderstands and thinks the two of them are close already. I really like how they call him ‘Mr Fang’ too :D

Colette says they’ve never met but she knows a lot about him and Fang seems happy to hear that. He points them both to the cathedral for the exam and wishes them both luck.

Once they arrive they meet Lailah who is the priest in charge as well as Marta and Arietta who are about to take the exam to become shrine maidens. There is an immediate fierce rivalry on Marta’s side towards Colette but Colette seems oblivious to it. Lailah tells them the exam involves going to a cave and bringing back the crystal residing there and that only one of them can pass. Marta and Arietta immediately run off leaving Colette and Cheria to play catch-up.

Once in the cave Colette falls into a trap and no one except Cheria stops to help her. Later when Arietta and Marta fall into traps of their own Colette and Cheria help them and a small friendship forms. Arietta says she was told by Van to become a court priestess and Marta says she met eyes with Lazaris once and knew it was her destiny to become a priestess after that.

They all travel deeper into the cave and find the crystal but when they remove it from the shrine a monster attacks them.

There’s a few cute scenes of them helping each other but ultimately Colette says she will distract the monster so the others can escape with the crystal. It seems at first Marta and Arietta want to agree but then they all decide to leave the crystal in the cave and return to the capital as it’s too dangerous to try and retrieve it.

They return empty-handed and Lailah says it was all a test and the cave was just an illusion and that she saw everything. Lazaris also appears to have been watching but no one except Lailah sees her.

Colette passes the exam and while the others are sad (Cheria is just happy) they all agree she deserved it the most and wish her well.

This is where Colette gets her new outfit! It even has a 3D model and I love it

Next scene Colette is finally able to meet Lazaris, who takes her down an underground passage below the city. She can finally give her the bouquet!

Colette is happy she can be with Lazaris from now on but unfortunately Lazaris’ intentions are about what you’d expect of someone who takes you down into a dungeon alone.

Under the city are all the crystals filled with the other characters who are frozen. Colette sees this and begins to panic. Lazaris says they are harmful humans who want to pollute her world. She then calls Colette ‘The Will of the World’ and mentions that she doesn’t seem to be a descender (which is a term used to describe the protagonists in the Radiant Mythology games.)

It seems Lazaris’ reasons for wanting a shrine priestess were to find someone with a pure will because they would be a danger to her world (this is explained more in part two)

And Lazaris then crystallises Colette who seems to regain her memories as she says Lloyd’s name before being consumed by the crystal.
