Yes for both! I’m trying to finish something to post for tomorrow, but I do have fics in progress in the twins universe and just Ruca in general. Here’s a snippet to appease the masses!

“He’s going to be okay.” Luca murmurs, reaching out to put a steadying hand on his arm. “You’ve gotta ease up a little, sweetheart. The kid doesn’t know you and his hackles are up.”

“He almost wasn’t.” Rocker says, closing his eyes. Nothing had terrified him as much as hearing Tommy’s voice on the radio and the sound of someone beating him to a pulp. “You like him?”

“Buck?” Luca shrugs in response. “Don’t know him yet. First impression is that he’s cool. Trying to keep himself busy so he’s not overcome with worry, you know?”

“Yeah. I get that.” Rocker chuckles bitterly. Their kitchen has probably never looked so clean. “Let’s feed them before Tommy starts bitching.” He grabs a couple of plates and tucks bottled waters under his arms, heading for the living room. Tommy’s in his favorite armchair, an old recliner that he’d salvaged and restored as a project with Genie. Rocker will have to take a picture for her later. Buck’s right next to him, quickly getting up and taking their plates with a stuttered thanks.

“Sorry to bypass the introductions.” Rocker tells Buck as they sit on the couch. “You’ve met Luca, my partner.”

“We talked while you guys were saying bye to Genie.” Luca says, smiling easily. “Buck was telling me he’s also a firefighter. At Tommy’s old station, if you can believe that.” Working under Captain Bobby Nash, if Rocker remembers correctly.

“Oh, I’ve seen him in action.” Rocker says, taking a bite of food.

“You…you have?” Buck’s face scrunches in confusion and Rocker hums, nodding. He can see the appeal to Tommy - the kid’s cute.

“He does look stupidly cute when he falls asleep when we watch movies though. Even if he has the volume on a dumb level.” Luca grouses. “Rocker is so stupidly adorable with, with his crinkly face when he smiles. And his hands, oh my god his hands are so big and strong. But who needs hands that big?” Luca considers this as best as his drunken mind can, those hands have done some wonderful things. “Although it is great when he takes… I can’t say that to you oh my god.” He’s drunk but he can’t say that to Rocker’s mother no matter how much wine he has had. They both giggle at Luca’s gasp of horror over what he nearly said out loud.

“Like I don’t know what you two get up too. I maybe old but I’m not blind. Nice hickey you got there. And you have big hands too. And your muscles have to be as big as Donny’s” Susan looks at Luca and they burst out into giggles again.

“Well then I probably shouldn’t tell you how last night he held both my wrists with one hand and” Luca starts to say.

“Nope, nope, nope that’s enough of that” Rocker interrupts walking into the room, he doesn’t need his parents hearing about his sex life.

ok I FINALLY caught up (just before the s4 finale too let's go) and there's so much I need to say!! firstly, like always, the writing is just next level like I've laughed, I've cried, I've stared at my phone in shock I love this universe so much. idk where to actually start so this is so out of order and so long sorry but kenneth!! that whole plot was so sad but the resolution was so cathartic and lucas and grace becoming kinsleys is so beautiful and I'm so proud of him reclaiming himself. CHARLIE!! my jaw dropped when he came out to eleanor I wasn't expecting it but I'm so proud of my boy!! like he deserves to be happy and who he is!!!! him and zay oh I love them so, I'm so excited to see if zay's going on tour or not but I hope they're ok either way. FARKLE!! MY ORIGINAL BOY!! I was rooting for him and isa so much and I just want him to be happy. also ik I said this on ig but as a longtime stuart and jennifer fan I wanna again thank u for making him an absolute wifeguy it's so cute and actually makes a lot of sense (like no wonder u two have six kids 😭) and since gmw were cowards and never gave us their backstory I'm now accepting ambition as canon and I also eagerly await their spin off sksfjksk. anyway back to the main plot rucas I'm always rooting for u, riley matthews ik ur gonna do what's best for u both in or not in california!! the jeric wedding was sooo beautiful and rae!! maybe I'm name biased but I loved her, her connection to lucas was so sweet. super excited to see where josh and maya goes and yindra!! they could all work for the same label which would be so fun!! I kinda hope nigel gets to go to london (sorry jade) bc I think he'd do so well and they could still work somehow idk how but they could 😭😭 anyway sorry this went so long but I'm so excited for the finale ik it's gonna be amazing 💖💖

as for the rest of this beautiful wordy message (which we love and encourage):

yes on the friar plotline!! that piece of this world has truly been slow burning for years -- all the way back to season 1 -- and it was so cathartic to finally bring some clarity and closure to it. i can definitely say that writing 410 and 411 were challenging but also some of my favorite episodes to craft in the entire series (and, dare i say, some of our best). i'm so glad it landed and is paying off. it was so meaningful to start getting to write lucas james kinsley in the following episodes instead.

can't even get into the zc of it all i'm so *dial up noises* about them. make me insane, truly. it's been a long, hard-fought journey but oh did we get here. i'm so proud of both of them for the growth -- ESPECIALLY charlie, as you said. he's come so far (even if there remains tribulations to face, i.e., eleanor)

it's definitely been so fun to bring the minkus clan to life over the last five years. they are a unique, intriguing, colorful cast of side characters (just like the gardners), and i'm so happy that we have readers like you who enjoy even those details in our story universe. 😊 their dynamic as a family has certainly come a long way since the pilot too.

for everything else you've said... well, the finale awaits!! thank you so much for reading as always, pal, and i hope you enjoy the rest of the season (if you haven't already).

Adopting for the two of them would be sooo cute! We have seen Luca being really good with kids (I’m still catching up on the show so I don’t know about Rocker, he’s great with them in my head) But you are right they haven’t even said I love you yet so that might be a few stories down the line in the tales of ruca 🤣💜

HSMTMTS 2x05 Review

The Quinceañero was a truly historic ep featuring the first time two boys have ever kissed on a Disney show. Let’s dig in!

We got the second same-sex kiss in Disney history tonight, Big Shot had the first last Friday, and the first kiss between two boys in Disney history. It’s a huge step forward. That’s not to say that Disney is going to start approving more same-sex kisses or lgbtq relationships or characters but the door is now open and at least some other shows and movies will be able to eventually follow in HSMTMTS steps.

Really nice cover of The Climb, Joe has such a great voice. It was cute that young Seb had watched young Carlos’ dance vid and felt inspired. Frankie and Joe being an irl couple certainly helps give Seblos a good rapport but it also helps that creator and showrunner Tim Federle is an openly gay man himself. I think if a straight man was showrunner we probably wouldn’t get such dedication to Seblos as a couple. 

It was a really funny ep too: Carlos saying his love language is riddles, Ricky asking Nini who they talk to when doing their confessionals, Carlos saying Miss Jenn was a master of smoke and mirrors, Benjamin Mazzara and Mike Bowen interacting. My personal favourite gags were when Big Red said he always wanted a nickname and Kourtney immediately did an office stare and when Nini said Picasso was a terrible person.

Gina still going through it. Kourtney is right that it doesn’t really make sense that Gina is now going to all this trouble for Carlos but to be honest the writing and pacing has been disjointed so far this season so a lot of things aren’t flowing as well as they need to. Is what Gina regrets convincing Ricky to go back on stage as that helped get Rini back together? That’s petty but fair and also true to teenage emotions (though she shouldn’t beat herself up too much, Rini were clearly on the path to getting back together by that point anyway).

Jesus Christ, Ricky needs to read the room. Last ep he correctly realized that Gina wouldn’t want to hear about his Nini issues and tried to stop Big Red from mentioning them but now he’s just doing it himself? Obviously they’re trying to drill in the fact that for now Rina is one sided but it’s a little much. Also really doesn’t make sense that Ricky wouldn’t go to Kourtney or Big Red for this kind of advice.

Sofia Wylie was killing it this ep, both her and Joe are showstoppers. A Dancer’s Heart was great and she did a good job of acting on the verge of tears almost the entire ep

At least EJ actually thought to ask Gina how she’s feeling though and she clearly appreciated it after she got over her shock. It does seem that reports of Portwell’s demise were greatly exaggerated, with the music and the longing stares they’re setting up for at least EJ to have a crush on Gina. Hell even Mazzara picked up on it at the end. I had noted last week that it seemed like Gina’s story line in S2 was being thrown out of balance by the writers dropping a planned Portwell plot and sure enough this week we actually begin to see Gina’s story arc not being entirely her pining over Ricky. 

EJ also benefits by being given something to do instead of just standing around in the back. I’m glad he took Mazzara up on the AV club offer and they have a nice mentor-mentee relationship going on. It’s also a nice little parallel with 1x05 when Gina told off EJ and had a moment with Ricky and now in 2x05 Gina tells off Ricky and has a moment with EJ. 

Matt seemingly dismissed Portwell as a friendship rather than even hinting at something between them. I guess he could have been told to keep it under wraps as much as possible but odd that they wouldn’t hype it a bit; it’s not like this came completely out of left field, people were wondering if Portwell might happen because of the moment they had in 1x10 and the facetime call they had before S2. Sofia has already said that Gina will have love interests this season and EJ being one, even if it’s brief, would make whole lot of sense since there’s really no one else for except Jack who only shows up much later and doesn’t seem to be in more than an ep or two.

Rini was sweet tonight. Yes Ricky is being clingy which stems in large part from his mom’s abandonment and in fairness Ricky and Nini have probably been used to spending much of their time with each other since they were kids. Loved that ‘I think you kinda you know’’ call back tonight. Looks like Nini will be cast as the Rose which should be interesting.

Miss Jenn is pulling Mike Bowen, Ben Mazzara, and Zach Roy. Good for her! Jike shippers certainly feasted tonight as Mike crashed a teen bday party just to see Miss Jenn and we got confirmation that everyone’s fave Disney Dilf was born in the 70s and must be no older than 51.

Well gotta love Lily’s commitment to bringing down East High and drinking scalding hot black coffee. She really seems like she just stepped off the set of Glee

Really hope we see those puppies and man was that wolf adorable

Not both HSMTMTS and Love Victor both making Okay Boomer jokes (it worked when Pilar said it to Felix but not when Ricky said it to his dad)

Big Red exposing Kourtney and Howie was good and it looks like their plot kicks into high gear next ep

Bet Tim thought he was real clever for that shot of Mazzara, Mike, and Miss Jenn in a triangle

A well shot ep except for one weird  and abrupt cut from Mazzara saying Caswell to Seblos outside the barn

Looking Ahead:

EJ stopping Gina from leaving would certainly further their relationship and would parallel him being the one to bring her back in S1. I still don’t get why they didn’t just use the Valentine’s chocolates as a plot device to further this plot; just have EJ secretly send them as he was also lonely and you can still have Gina think they were from Ricky.

From what I’ve seen online this Portwell hint has been controversial. It’s true that there’s an age gap between the characters of 2ish years and a much bigger one between the actors but I don’t think that will stop Tim as he already had EJ date Nini. I’ve also seen comments that it would be a bad idea since EJ is leaving at the end of S2 once he graduates but he’s not actually leaving, they’ll keep him around in some fashion until the current juniors graduate. 

So far it seems like Rini is the Rucas of hsmtmts, Rina is the Lucaya, and Portwell is the Joshaya.

Kowie starts progressing a bit next ep and we may possible see Antoine next week or the week after according to Larry.

Presumably Ricky’s clinginess starts causing trouble between him and Nini.

Still so funny that North High just up and decided to do Beauty and the Beast just to bring down East High.

A brief summary of Asteria - Recollections of Eden (Part One)

Like a lot of Western Tales fans I saw this image of Lloyd from the Japanese mobile game Tales of Asteria and wondered what the deal was with Lloyd fighting Colette and Mikleo;

I recently got to play Asteria for myself and spent hours using the google translate app on my phone to read it so I could find out. Because I can’t see much else online about this arc I thought I’d summarise here what I read but I’ve mostly concentrated on the Symphonia characters because that’s what interested me (sorry). I would recommend reading and translating for yourself if there’s other characters you want to know more about.

This is going to be long so I’ll split this into multiple posts! Here’s part one. Apologies in advance for the bad screenshots my phone camera isn’t the best.

Arc 1 and 2 in Asteria are mostly separate to this and you don’t need to know much about them except Colette and Lloyd had a story similar to that in Symphonia (Lloyd is Colette’s protector, Zelos betrays them at one point etc). They meet other characters along the way like Rita so they’re familiar with people outside their canon game. Arc 3 ends with Van (the villain of the arc) using Lazaris’ power to crystallise the world, and everyone living there. I believe the reason was to create a world without war. He and Lazaris then re-awaken some people but their memories are altered. Sorey and Velvet seem to be two of the only people at the beginning who have memories of the original Arc 1-3 because they escaped notice. (I didn’t read this part too deeply, apologies that could be a little wrong). The name of this new world is Entelestia!

We find Colette living in Orsha Village with her best friend Cheria, without memories of their past lives. In this world Lazaris is worshipped by the people as their emperor and Colette makes a flower crown, wanting to travel to the city and give it to Lazaris in person. Cheria says she will accompany her.

(Colette also makes a bouquet for Cheria.. so cute)

They travel to a nearby town called Falcham which Lazaris is visiting and with Ruca’s knowledge of the back streets they get to meet her. When Colette comes face-to-face with Lazaris though she gets a strange feeling and it seems to be mutual. Lazaris leaves after just a few words and Colette was so caught up she was unable to hand over the bouquet she made.

That night Colette tells Cheria she could sense Lazaris’ feelings when they met and that she the woman seemed lonely. 

Colette wants to continue following Lazaris and Cheria tells Colette that she might be able to get closer to her if she becomes a shrine priestess. There is an exam she has to pass first though and being a good friend Cheria says she will also take the exam with Colette so she doesn’t have to do it alone.

They travel to the capital city Shangrace, which has an uneasy air due to a recent jailbreak (Velvet was captured but Raven broke her out of prison a few days prior to this part) and head to the palace but they don’t know where to go. While here Colette runs into-

We find out there are a group of Knights called ‘The White Lions’ and Fang is the captain of them (or maybe just a group of them? It was a little unclear). Their main job seems to be protecting the capital and Lazaris so Lloyd/Fang is a bit of a celebrity in this new world.

When Cheria sees them together she misunderstands and thinks the two of them are close already. I really like how they call him ‘Mr Fang’ too :D

Colette says they’ve never met but she knows a lot about him and Fang seems happy to hear that. He points them both to the cathedral for the exam and wishes them both luck.

Once they arrive they meet Lailah who is the priest in charge as well as Marta and Arietta who are about to take the exam to become shrine maidens. There is an immediate fierce rivalry on Marta’s side towards Colette but Colette seems oblivious to it. Lailah tells them the exam involves going to a cave and bringing back the crystal residing there and that only one of them can pass. Marta and Arietta immediately run off leaving Colette and Cheria to play catch-up.

Once in the cave Colette falls into a trap and no one except Cheria stops to help her. Later when Arietta and Marta fall into traps of their own Colette and Cheria help them and a small friendship forms. Arietta says she was told by Van to become a court priestess and Marta says she met eyes with Lazaris once and knew it was her destiny to become a priestess after that.

They all travel deeper into the cave and find the crystal but when they remove it from the shrine a monster attacks them.

There’s a few cute scenes of them helping each other but ultimately Colette says she will distract the monster so the others can escape with the crystal. It seems at first Marta and Arietta want to agree but then they all decide to leave the crystal in the cave and return to the capital as it’s too dangerous to try and retrieve it.

They return empty-handed and Lailah says it was all a test and the cave was just an illusion and that she saw everything. Lazaris also appears to have been watching but no one except Lailah sees her.

Colette passes the exam and while the others are sad (Cheria is just happy) they all agree she deserved it the most and wish her well.

This is where Colette gets her new outfit! It even has a 3D model and I love it

Next scene Colette is finally able to meet Lazaris, who takes her down an underground passage below the city. She can finally give her the bouquet!

Colette is happy she can be with Lazaris from now on but unfortunately Lazaris’ intentions are about what you’d expect of someone who takes you down into a dungeon alone.

Under the city are all the crystals filled with the other characters who are frozen. Colette sees this and begins to panic. Lazaris says they are harmful humans who want to pollute her world. She then calls Colette ‘The Will of the World’ and mentions that she doesn’t seem to be a descender (which is a term used to describe the protagonists in the Radiant Mythology games.)

It seems Lazaris’ reasons for wanting a shrine priestess were to find someone with a pure will because they would be a danger to her world (this is explained more in part two)

And Lazaris then crystallises Colette who seems to regain her memories as she says Lloyd’s name before being consumed by the crystal.
