January Check In
Hello, all!
Happy update day, catfolk! We apologize for the late update, but we wanted to share the Beta dates with you in this update. We took extra time to ensure the dates were accurate without risking something not being ready in time or causing burnout for our team. We’ve done quite a bit of internal assessment on the pros and cons of letting ~2,000+ people into the game.
Our most pressing thought was how to reconcile needing to continue working on key features while getting valuable feedback and play data on all that we already have. There was a lot to consider, in reputation, timeline, and team morale. We did not want to give the wrong impression that we felt anywhere close to a done game, but we have a lot of high fidelity mechanics and playability to share which need high population testing regardless. We’ve finally settled on rolling our sleeves up and opening to testers. At the start, we’ll provide a comprehensive breakdown of everything we’re planning to add over the months of the test, and continue our monthly check-ins on our progress. We’re ready to grind, and we hope you are too! And in many ways, it will be much nicer to get the comprehensive mass testing whenever we have something new to roll out!
We hope you will all agree that this update was worth the wait, as we have exciting news to share with you today, along with our most exciting news yet! :)
Accessory Progress
We are proud to announce that we have 47 unique accessories, altogether with 564 color variations.
We have just about reached the edge of our odyssey in the first production run of accessories. After 8 months of practice and training for our fledgling team, we’ve improved immensely at our pipeline. What has previously taken us months now takes a matter of weeks. We have one more backer accessory to develop, and any additions in the near future will be small, simplistic items in comparison to our full sets, but I’m very proud of the team for how far we’ve come, and the marvel of quality they produce in good time.
This month’s new progress includes:
Frog Friends
Illustration by Remmie, sponsored by Hag
Protogear Recolors
Recolors by Emma
New decor
We’ve also been busy with decors.
Argh, matey!
Macaws by Jersopod, cannon, barrel and newspaper stack by Giulia and Remmie
In addition, style compliant sketches of the original rose decor!
Sketches by Remmie
Archetypes
We’re here to introduce a very exciting mechanic that has been in the works since our initial overhaul. It’s one of my personal favorite concepts, and the primary motivation behind how we’ve structured the cat design system.
Introducing… cat archetypes!
Archetypes are a specific combination of traits which, when fulfilled, mark the cat’s profile with a badge and reward the user as an achievement fulfillment. (If the cat’s traits are changed, the badge will be removed. Cats may fulfill multiple Archetypes simultaneously.)
For example, this badge means the cat fulfills the Ruby archetype, a badge which requires the cat to have the color Ruby in all slots.
Examples of the Ruby archetype include:

To give examples of the specificity, other Archetypes include for example “Leopard,” which must have the following to comply:
A Yellow range Leopard overcoat
Light Greyscale or Light Yellow undercoat
Yellow or Greyscale Claws
None for the second accent
Here are some Leopards!

Owning these cats will give the user rewards, sometimes completely custom to the Archetype.
What we hope to achieve with this system is a greater incentive to think creatively within the restrictions of our cat builder, and to reward our players for intentioned play in collecting, breeding, and designing a variety of cats. After all, it is the core of the game!
And with each new addition of colors or patterns, we’ll release an onslaught of new Archetypes! We plan to introduce a healthy amount of them, some easy to get, and some harder depending on genetic obtainability and the obtainment method.
This system is already up and running on our servers, and is in its infancy. We’ll get a lot of data from testing it out!
Originally, this system was on the backburner while we focused on bigger picture mechanics, but we’ve fast tracked it so we can bolster and better encourage casual play while the Guild system is still in its preliminary beta state.
Pelt System
Perhaps the feature we are most excited to see in use and tested is the Pelt System, which we briefly introduced in the 2024 November Check In. There is a frankly insane amount of functionality behind this feature, which includes autonomous user decision and interaction every step of the way.
First, we were able to implement dynamic layering. This means that Unclipped (top layer) pelts can actually sport layers which are placed behind the cat automatically. Valuable uses for this feature include the inside of sleeves, backs of hoods, and items which you would otherwise always want to go behind anything it’s stacked above.
Users can view their pelts already submitted, see their submission progress, choose to submit more to the pelt, choose to print their pelt themselves, choose to list pelts for buyers to print on demand, and view their pelts on any cat.
There is also a draft system which allows users to store information they aren’t ready to submit yet.
Users can list pelts as a print-on-demand resource, and are able to control how many copies they will allow to be printed.
All prints will require a tax which will be dependent on the coverage %, calculated based on the amount of pixels that cover the canvas. This means that small pelts, like a hat or a monocle, will take only a small tax!
AND we have a rudimentary tagging system going as we experiment with this feature! Big news! Once we iron out the kinks, we’ll be able to roll out user filtering and tagging of other content, such as cats or forum posts.
And drumroll please…
As teased at the beginning of this update, we are overjoyed to announce the Closed Beta dates! Early access launches on February 3rd, with the regular Closed Beta starting on February 6th!
During the Closed Beta, you’ll have the chance to experience many new and polished gameplay features, exciting customization options, and the now refined economy! We encourage all testers to not only find any potential bugs and ui improvements, but also to provide feedback and suggestions on all of our game features and our economy!
All 253 Early Beta, 1940 Beta and Kickstarter codes have been generated, and we will begin sending them out shortly over the next day.
In the coming week, we’ll put out writings on our expectations early on and the features roadmap that we’re currently staring at. We can’t wait to see you all in Kotemara soon!
To summarize: We shared decors, Protogear recoloring, Frog Friends, pelt system showcase, archetypes and closed Beta dates.
What to expect next month: Further asset and development updates. Check-ins for how closed Beta will be going.

i really love your crk au and also how do you imagine grian as a cookie?
Sorry this took so long, funny enough I was asked this right as I was working on him so uh 💀
CRK x MCYT AU: The bird of all time

BIRD UP /ref
I made the OG’s the ancients and grouped a couple life series members with the Tearcrown mermaids/general sea cookies. Y’all already KNOW I had to make Hermitcraft the Crème Republic, or should I say the Hermit Republic?
I’ll make the other hermits at some point, probably way later, but it felt fair to group Grian with the other life series members as well.
Description and Lore below: {TW⚠️: Mentions of murder, cannibalism, hunting people like animals, a little Orinthophobia (fear of birds)⚠️}
Scarlet Macaw Cookie is an elite Councilman of the Hermit Republic. He may seem to be just a sharp-witted politician to the average cookie, but his methods to maintaining power and more so sustenance hold far, far darker secrets than one could ever imagine. If there’s a threat to the house he leads, he slowly dismantles the enemy house, stealing from them and killing their men one by one, working his way up until the head of the enemy force is slain by his very talons. Being a Siren Harpy means he mainly kills for the purpose of being able to eat, as he can only eat cookies and other animals.
Scarlet Macaw Cookie takes the role of both Frilled Jellyfish Cookie and Oyster Cookie. The bird I mentioned in Scar/Pearl’s post is him. Scarlet Macaw Cookie has been best friends with Abyssal Ruby Cookie, (Scar, Gold Sapphire Cookie at the time,) since forever. You could almost never catch the two separated in those old days. While Scarlet Macaw Cookie was a Harpy, The Almighty Sea gifted him the ability to breathe underwater after seeing how often he helped and protected Gold Sapphire Cookie on a daily basis. After Gold Sapphire’s corruption into Abyssal Ruby Cookie, Scarlet Macaw was forced to flee Tearcrown and ended up seeking a new life on land. He worked (and slightly killed) his way up the ladder until he managed to climb to the spot where he stands today. He later found and rekindled with Abyssal Ruby Cookie, and he occasionally flies to the Duskgloom Sea to hunt and eat the remains of the unfortunate cookies that cross those waters.

Finished projects for today are Clementine (she/her) and Chum (they/it). Apparently I was missing the beach today when I decided to finish these two.
Clementine is an avid beach comber. Her macaws Lily and Leopold help her find trinkets. She is extremely laid back and spends all her time leisurely making her way along the shores of seas and oceans.
Chum is a massive undead leviathan whose body is the spawning ground of a mythical species of salmon. Its flesh provides the only substrate that these fish will lay their eggs in. You know it has been in the area if you find one of these glistening ruby-like eggs floating in the water. Any part of the salmon, but especially the eggs, fetch a high price on the market as an alchemical material.

BEHOLD the boy man! Arpeggio Plumeworth Junior all grown up!
I came up with Arpeggio Jr. in 2010, within the year after I developed a crush on Arpeggio. However, I hadn’t given much thought to him as adult til the past few years; I just knew he’d definitely pursue a criminal career. Currently, I’m on my fourth playthrough of Red Dead Redemption II, and it gave me the idea of making Arpeggio Jr. a modern outlaw, especially since I’ve had the idea for the longest time that Arpeggio Jr. wouldn’t really want to assume leadership of the Klaww Gang in his adulthood—that role is eventually taken by his younger sister, Solfege (girl boss YAS!)—and find his mother’s thieving lifestyle more appealing. He also grows up with a fascination for stories and media set in the American Old West, but his style of dress is derived from that worn by British gangs of the late 19th century-early 20th century (he is British, after all).
Please see below cut for background info!
Background Info:
Full Name: Arpeggio Plumeworth Junior
D.o.B.: May 2nd, 2002
Gender: Male (he/him)
Species: Hybrid avian — Golden macaw (Ara aureus)* X Peregrine falcon (Falco peregrinus)
Nationality: British
Relationships:
-Arpeggio Plumeworth and Samantha Falco-Plumeworth (parents)
-Solfege Plumeworth (sister)
-Charles and Elizabeth Falco (maternal grandparents)
-Dylan and Ruby Falco (uncle and aunt)
-Forte and Harper Plumeworth (paternal grandparents)
Misc. Background Info:
-His pet roe deer, Raphael (named after the Italian Renaissance artist), serves as his trusty steed. Arpeggio Jr. and his mother rescued the buck as a fawn, who was orphaned after one of Arpeggio’s guards shot and killed his mother when she was mistaken for an intruder. Samantha and her son nursed the fawn back to health, who then bonded with Arpeggio Jr. and remained as his companion animal. Though Arpeggio Jr. is capable of flight, he finds Raphael useful for helping him carry off stolen goods that are too heavy/awkward to make off with on the wing.
-Being born and raised in England, he primarily speaks with an English accent. However, as his mother is American from the northeast U.S., he speaks certain words/phrases picked up from her in a vague northeast U.S. accent that is most comparable to a Boston accent. He’s also capable of speaking purely with a northeast U.S. accent, but really only does so for deceptive reasons.
-He lives a vagrant lifestyle, not having an actual home except for a small blimp designed by his father. Though Arpeggio Jr. doesn’t consider himself to be a machinist (and certainly not to the caliber of his father), he possesses enough knowledge to maintain his personal aircraft.
-Though he mainly devises and executes his own jobs, he still does work for the Klaww Gang as its thief and saboteur and considers himself a member, which was his mother Samantha’s role in the gang before her marriage to Arpeggio. He is also a member by blood of the Shadow Order, as he is a descendant of the Falco lineage (maternal side), who has headed the North American faction of the order since the 17th century.
-Like both his parents, Arpeggio Jr. has a socially acceptable occupation that is being a writer. He writes and publishes crime novellas based on his personal life and his adventures, as well as those of his family—names and certain other details significantly altered, of course.
-He goes by an alias “Gio Falco” in the field. This is also the name law enforcement entities know him by, though information on him (fortunately) remains quite scarce.
-His heterochromia makes him rather identifiable. When pulling off jobs during daylight and/or that require him to closely and directly interact with an adversary, he wears brown-colored eye contacts.
-Despite his affinity of the American western outlaw aesthetic, he doesn’t have a gun because he does not believe in using guns—he hates them, actually. He believes that a true master thief does not need a weapon such as a gun anyway, he finds they cause unnecessary damage and/or noise that tends to hinder heists.
-Arpeggio Jr. shares his mother’s love for ferals (non-anthro/regular animals in the Sly Cooper universe). It’s implied that he’s a “feral whisperer” of sorts, often charming animals owned by his enemies (like guard dogs and horses) to aid him in his heists. This works especially if said ferals are mistreated by their owners, which Arpeggio Jr. will ensure to rescue or free them.
-Though he physically resembles a golden macaw*, his peregrine falcon side shines in his flying ability. He’s also capable of performing the famous peregrine dive, though his less than aerodynamic shape renders him unable to fall as quickly or smoothly as if pulled off by a full-blooded peregrine.
-Arpeggio Jr. is secretly ashamed that he’s not as similar to his father as he believes he ought to be, having been named after him. Though both his parents have assured him throughout his upbringing that the intent of his existence was not to be an heir to the Klaww Gang (as it was not founded by Arpeggio, who took over after the prior leader’s retirement), he fears that he’s somehow a disappointment to his father for not having as much of a passion for inventing and engineering and having even less of an interest in leading/overseeing a drug ring. Although Arpeggio Jr. is very proud of his father and his name, he doesn’t like being referred to as ‘Mr. Plumeworth’ for this reason.

Here's Macaw for wof oc requests! They don't really have too much lore atm, which is kinda ironic because I made them when I first read the books over 6 years ago. When I made them their name was actually Rio because I was obsessed with the 2011 animated bird movie, but after a while I changed it to Macaw because it just kinda makes more sense (even though Changbai exists in canon)
I originally made them to go in this post canon au where I made some ocs to go to jma (really what wof kid hasn't tried making their own jma winglet?), I think I might've called it the ruby winglet? Unsure. Macaw was mainly there to be the "Goofy RainWing," and beyond that I didn't do much more with their character. Which I deeply regret because I have no idea what to do with them now 😔
But yeah! As it stands that's kinda all there is to them as of now :3
I love their colors so much, I really hope I did this goof-ball justice they deserve =•]
And yeah, first year in the wof fandom, I made a hybrid winglet called the Crystal winglet, I think. One of the characters from it I gave away in an adopt. Might put the other hybrids for adoption, but idk.

Basic bitch Chuldur!Rogue mockup so you can see my vision.
The default ‘Just-a-Chuldur cosplaying his favourite Doctor Who character the Master’ one is macaw based, not just for a The Master And Margarita reference, but for the same reason she’s a parrot in Sweet’s novel. He’s a mimic. And rainbowy gay.
For the secret nesting dolls situation of ‘the Master ““fobwatched””* to an unknowing Chuldur who’s playing his favourite character the Master’ mirroring Ruby playing a Chuldur playing Ruby in the episode, go straight to the phoenix side - cut the blues and greens. Now yes they did already have to change Emily!Chuldur’s beak in post-production from its original black to yellow, and a phoenix if we’re going default would have a similar beak but in pure black. But you can have him in grey/white face-feathers which is going to make it show up better on camera, as opposed to raven-turned-starling Emily, so I think that would be fine. And still looks generic bird that the non-discerning viewer won’t think too much about the species of bird before he burns.
#fanart#mine#well mockup more than art#cosplaying rogue#chuldur rogue#rogue master#*fobtoothed/manifested by belief into existence by rogue or 15 etc

palette of mind
in cracked ice, beak screeches skitter, macaw-rich in panicked delight, ruby eyes crest, horizon-sunk.
crush'd berries quiver, pectin-sick and set in position, primed to mourn the curtain call of ebony jewelwings, lips pursed in cells, in prison wings made like inkblots, made like a battery of tests, made like the shattering of glass sea-smooth and pocked, pitted like the constellations gracing her face, hand-traced and sun-shy, sweet and red as beets on altars.
quiet bleating seeks no sacrifice here. but run'd ragged, these threadbare eyes wait for wanting, and crushing girls beg, cochineals
watching creatures cloaked in sunsets, in blushing words and papery touches, grief's hands fall in longing for the beat of swift's wings, for the beat of journeys, lasting in the lingering until four bodies, floored and limp, fester in fugue.
patterned, stamped in motif, systems, bodies, cycles, meet seams. under eyes rhinestone bright, no stone lies unturned. al fine.
