Borgward Isabella Coupé 

Has any automaker gone from oblivion to success and back again as quickly as Borgward? Mention the name today, and you're likely to get blank stares, or questions along the lines of "Borgward? Who made those?" It's hard to imagine any European posing that sort of question in 1955, when Borgward had risen from the post-war rubble to outsell all other German automakers but Volkswagen, or 1958, when the Bremen firm very nearly nipped Porsche for the German sports-car championship. And yet, by 1962, the company was gone, the victim of a tragic and avoidable series of circumstances.

The Isabella was a bull's-eye in the mid-priced sedan market segment. Volkswagens were less expensive, but smaller and less powerful. Mercedes-Benz's 180 sedan had the sophistication of an overhead cam, but no greater top speed, and cost 30 percent more than the Isabella's list price of 7,265 Deutsche Marks. Opel's Olympia Rekord couldn't touch its top speed, or its all-coil-sprung suspension; and BMW had nothing between the fantastically expensive "Baroque Angel" 501 and the Isetta-based 600 microcar. On top of it all, the press loved the car. By the end of 1954, more than 10,000 Isabellas had rolled out the factory gates.

The Isabella had thoroughly up-to-date underpinnings, with a coil spring at each corner, swing axles in the rear and A-arms up front. The engine, a pushrod four designed by Karl Ludwig Brandt, wrung 75hp from its 1,493cc, with its relatively high 8.2:1 compression ratio and good breathing. The intake manifold was entirely enclosed atop the engine, making for a tidy design that could have been mistaken for an OHC. So sound was the engine that, developed for racing, it powered Cooper-Borgwards to many Formula 2 victories in the Fifties. The Borgward RS, or Rennsport, became Porsche's nemesis in the hands of drivers like Stirling Moss, Jo Bonnier and Hans Herrmann.

If the Isabella had a flaw, it was that its development had been limited, and early cars suffered from weak engine bearings and front-end components. Competitors started a whispering campaign about "die Traumfrau mit der schmutzigen Unterwäsche," or "the dream girl with the dirty underwear," but Borgward, unfazed, worked with its suppliers to iron out the bugs, and no real harm was done to the model's reputation.

Just as with the Hansa 1500, new models were quickly spun off the Isabella. In 1955, Borgward launched convertible and station wagon versions, as well as a hot TS ("Touring Sport") model with a two-barrel carburetor that could top 90 MPH, leaving Porsche 1300s behind. As the decade wore on, new designs from its competitors and a softening economic situation led to declining sales, prompting Carl F. W. to add the most glamorous model yet to the Isabella lineup: the Coupé.

Time to say goodbye to SaGaRS. . .

About 3 days left but at this point there is nothing left for me to finish there beyond the Oblivion Romancing difficulty and that one is unbeatable on Global. What a fitting end, huh? :D;;; Oblivion won and the world exploded!

Don't mind me having a moment (again) I'm so thankful for the kind souls who stopped by to RP/Interact with me, it really helped me soften the blow a bit since EoS was announced in September. :");;; 🙏 I've been playing RS for little over 3 years and even though RS2 is one of my faves, I love so many of the other SaGa games! RS provided me with so much joy by allowing me to collect my favorite little pixel people and bonking all the super tough bosses! I have so many fond memories of discussing strategies and crafting clear parties with friends... and making lil stories and interactions whenever an unusual party worked out in clearing content!

I only hope SE is working on a new SaGa mobile game cause even though RS is still going in JP, it's not in a good position... and kinda hasn't been since the Polka arc ended.

Well, here be the final standings ... !

I'm still sad I will never hit the 1300 login days milestone T^T;; I never bothered to GP grind (it just gives pretty standing border!) but since the EoS announcement I tried to get my top faves to grade 6 and I managed! Minstrel for whom I originally started playing for (my beloved Elore...) I'm weak for bard characters! Creator, that magnificent bastard who defeated me in World Tower's first release and it became love at first defeat between us. Shirei the sassiest minstrel (best protagonist!) even though he had the worst story arc and Matriarch who was the first banner style I pulled when I started playing ... without realizing how important she was both in story and in gameplay. She quickly became one of my absolute favorites! I loved all the lore about her and her generals so much (as I was always curious who the Holy King was in RS3)! It's fitting Vassault is right behind her on the list there but sadly I won't be able to give him the fancy grade 6 frame even though he has been the swift farmer who pulled everyone else!

Looking at the others GP standing, Kzinssie barely made it before Wagnas! At last he gets some small moment of glory! :D;

I saved some pics and some sprites on my phone so I can show random people my pixel husbos and wifus and talk how things didn't work out and they are now back to Japan.

But for now, even though the game is still playable, it's time to say goodbye and thank you for all the glimmers! :');;

Does continuing work in the public domain count as a series being "franchised into oblivion"? I'm not trying to troll, I'm just curious. I know that something like fanfic probably wouldn't count, but I can figure out if "retelling" or "extension" counted as fanfic under those rules.

I don't think so. I don't think necessarily other people working in the same sandbox is bad if its completely separate. Room for Bram Stoker's Dracula, Dracula 2000 and Van Helsing as they all work with the same basic idea but the building blocks are different. Which is why public domain is a good thing. Having the Peter Cushing Sherlock Holmes movies and The Great Mouse Detective is a boon. It helps introduce important pieces of the history of stories to a new generation who wouldn't get it otherwise. Like how they used to pass down stories each person putting their own spin on it when they told it through the oral tradition. Public domain is so important which is why its so scummy that Disney keeps extending it. And they are the current huge perpetrator of "stories that go on forever" with both the MCU and St*r W*rs pumping out "content" not meaningful stories with an end. Just filling in holes that were perfectly fine people used their imaginations to fill for sometimes 40 years (cough OB* W*N cough) often with less interesting things than many could come up with or a never ending stream of consciousness that means nothing (cough M*rvel shows every week forever). And its not for the love of the story or the love of the art of the medium in which these people work, its all to keep a precious IP and build a monopoly on culture. So bring on the various Pooh and Jane Ayre and Beowulf and Titus Andronicus adaptions! Its good for culture to have multiple voices in the stew.

Names

This one is small and they are broken and they are loud and they are angry- yet none of these are their name.

Ask, and this one will tell you of horrors they have faced, of family tearing itself apart in the name of power and control. They had names too, once, these breakers of things. They had names that this one has hissed with fury and cursed under her breath. They had names that once this one said with a velvet tongue, with loving tone, with adoration and hope.

Now, now this one walks the campus in quiet determination, occasionally offering something to a particularly brave crow, or fending off some student or Gentry that has accosted someone they have claimed as theirs. This one is protective, this little broken spitfire, protective of those whom they can save and helpful to those they cannot. For the ones who are scared, who are tired, who are lost, this one spins stories to guide them. For the ones who are brave, who are determined, who are as this one says they once were, they weave wards.

This one has magic, you see. Magic in stories and magic in their blood that is halfway Them and yet not Them. This one sings softly of places far to the north and back in time, rarely, and will if prompted enough bare the runic tattoos on their wrists, arms, elbows, ankles, legs, knees. Most of Them -if They are among the prompters- tend to back away quickly, for blood magic is more powerful than almost any other that mortal hand can craft, and just as protective as iron and salt if not moreso. However, if They are friends, are among theirs, this one will hide the blood-mixed ink and call them back softly, by Names that they have given them that ring as true as Their own. Miyoko and Kuga only share one moment in canon, and that’s this one:

But as we have already realized, when it comes to ships, I am a very simple person, so that alone was enough for me. I just thought that it was adorable how Kuga is immediately happily rushes to her to ask her if she wants to join his RS, she’s just cooly like “nope” and he’s just “you’re always welcome anyways” !!! 

I just also feel the dynamic between a strong-minded, serious character and a loud, arrogant jokester who probably announces his arrival to the mall with a megaphone as something interesting. Kuga is just so extravagant and Miyoko is hard-headed and I feel there’s some really endearing banter material there.

Also there is the fact that Kuga just simply respects Miyoko greatly from the looks of it (I mean it’s also Kuga we’re talking about, he’s not that respectful with many), something that she’d appreciate over time I feel. 

Also listen, the “Miyoko-chin” is just adorable. Especially in the anime, like just how enthusiastic he says it, I am just “Awww”

For Headcanons:

Kuga is a 100% supportive boyfriend/husband who’s very vocal about how cool and strong his girlfriend/wife is. He knows she can kick ass and he will yell it at Eizan a few rude people like “You should be afraid of my girl, she can wrestle you into oblivion !”

When Miyoko notices he freezes in winter, she’ll give him her coat and he just “But that’s my job-” “Shut up and just take it!” 

Kuga got her to try quite a few new things. He dragged her into a karaoke bar once and she was genuinely amused about his over-the-top performances there. At some point he pulled her on stage to sing a duet and she was quite shy about it but his insistence and encouragement worked through her at some point. 

They share an equal love for Martial Arts Movies

Miyoko knows one of of his greatest secrets which is that he becomes a crying mess at James Cameron’s “Titanic” and while she thinks the movie is incredibly boring she still sits through it with him a lot. And she would never tell anyone about that weak spot of his.

For a long time she tried hiding tears from him but when he took a notice on it, they had a long talk about “You know you can always tell me everything right? And that you don’t have to, no, mustn’t hide such a serious issue as tears from me!”

They both like Phil Collins and so do their kids and it’s the most random headcanon ever but here it is

I dunno if you know runescape or got into rs lore; Zamorak is the god of chaos - by extension change and revolution. He hates stagnation and will introduce factors even of destruction to make people stronger. It doesn't have to be pain but many of his philosophies are hidden behind members only quests - He's actually nicer than the so called god of order and light (Saradomin don't @ me lol). So when I saw Dagon I was like hell yeah! I can get behind this! But he's viewed very narrowly since tes4

--// I do not know Runescape lore, nor do I play Runescape, but a god of chaos being seen as more ambiguous morality is very much to my liking. Though, the introducing acts of destruction to make people stronger reminds me of Doomfist from Overwatch and his whole “Conflict is how we evolve.” 

Coincidentally, that is what made me think he’d be a Mythic Dawn member and I joked with my brother that if all the characters of Overwatch were sent to the Elder Scrolls, Doomfist would have become a champion of Mehrunes Dagon. He is ambitious, he values change and the evolution of humanity through conflict and revolution, he is strong and determined, he is both intelligent and a great fighter, he doesn’t want humanity to stagnate and weaken. I like Doomfist. He is horrible, but I like to think on why he thinks what he thinks. 

In Oblivion, he seemed to want to change the Mundus, and I didn’t know why other than his spheres. There is not official lore on it. I don’t know if the seven fights of the aldudagga are canon or not, but the fact that he used to call the Mundus hus home made me really feel him. He and his people are extinct. That which he called home and which he tried to preserve now detests him and he is unable to return. The only reason he continues to fight despite having been put onto an impossible task is because the Magna Ge imbued him with hope. 

That being said, he is an absolute shitstain. I love some of his spheres and can see how he can be used in a positive way. I even had him try to ally with Namira by noting that decay is change and destruction on a smaller scale. He is very eloquent, he is rather creative and intelligent, he is just also overzealous and quite selfish.

He had a significant other. He gets really angry when the hero says they slew her. He trusted her enough to give her a blade made of his own essence, essentially making it and her able to banish him to the void. He has strong emotions, energy being in his sphere, they have a lot of energy. This means he hates strongly, but also that he loves very strongly as well. What a mess. ))

I wish people would stop engaging red. They only come on recast wednesday anyway, post their 2-3 Volks is greedy and RS can do it cheap staple arguments and 🙄 at anything.  Just leave them be, let them say their piece and go on. We cannot change their opinion and feeding them only makes them stick around for the lols longer.   Block them, ignore them, leave them disappear into oblivion.
