this is what I feed my dogs, again, something discussed with my vet, who I would imagine knows more about pet nutrition than you do.
#This isn’t even a good roast because Rachael ray isn’t a scandalous dog food#it was one of like 50 brands with dog food the fda investigated the grain free diets for something that could cause DCM#but the fda couldn’t decisively link the DCM cases to food at all let alone any food in particular#and I can’t stress enough that I don’t even feed grain free to my animals so this isn’t even relevant#shocking: dog food company makes more than one line of dog food#and the only recall on this brand was for specific flavors of wet cat food in ~2015 or so? Iirc#which. as stated in the post. my cats don’t eat Rachael ray#my dogs do#supplemented with other canned food#¯\_(ツ)_/¯#again#my cats eat a prescribed Royal canin and 4health#Stay mad about it though I guess#Purina has had SEVERAL RECALLS AND LAWSUITS FOR THE RECORD#but sure we can pretend they get a gold star#hills had to recall 30+ food lines because they had enough vitamin D to kill pets and this was just in 2021#can we stop acting like the ~vet approved~ brands are any better than any of the rest

maybe i should own being an uninformed layperson who doesn't know enough about ~ pet rx food science ~ but why the fuck is this rx diet nearly $120 for a 12-pack.
#you know we went through a wave of like 'whole/quality ingredience for your pets only!!"#and i was like wow so true#and then you get these rx diets that are like 'corn. corn. corn. by products. corn. supplements.' $200 please#this is the royal canin one i might just have to do purina. it's $50.#we've done the sd low fat i/d and the smell and consistency was a nightmare#though the vet tech told me they all honestly smell like shit so i gotta take the L there#but im just trying to find a sustainable way that's OK'd by the vet in terms of vigo not having another flareup#he is seeing his primary vet on saturday so im praying she'll have something reassuring to say lol#vigo would only get the best food i could afford for years and now im like 'oohh man better get purina'#dont wanna be a snob or anything but i just want him to be healthy and yet here we are#xangoeswah

most vets (where i live) know literally nothing about pet nutrition and they recommend the literal worst quality brands on the market and it's physically painful having to listen to someone say SCIENCE DIET is the best quality food for their cat

Ok people acting like feeding anything that isn’t owned by Purina or hills will kill your pets are being a BIT dramatic here. I have never used either and all of my animals are miraculously alive and fully healthy.
#I have one cat on prescription Royal canin and the rest on 4health#dogs get Rachael ray dry and Merrick canned#All of which was endorsed by my vet ¯\_(ツ)_/¯#so was Taste of the Wild my dogs just don’t like it much#I’ve fed both grain and grain free in the past and noticed no real difference other than some animals preferred one over the other.#all my animals live 15+ aside from one cat when I was a child who was poisoned by a neighbor#another unfriendly reminder to keep cats indoors#Is all of this anecdotal? Yep!#but so are a lot of these claims for what food is the best#there is no one right answer it depends on the needs of your specific animal#but Buddy you almost certainly don’t need to be paying for overpriced food if your pet doesn’t have a specific medical issue
