Gordon the Big Engine (Thomas the Tank Engine) vs Cersei Lannister (A Song Of Ice and Fire)

Gordon

he is a pompous self-important asshole who thinks he is the best because he pulls the express. he's the fastest engine on sodor, but when he decided to match the speed of a visiting engine, he lost his dome. he shows off when he is supposed to be learning how to pull passenger trains and then fucks up pulling passenger trains. many such cases! every time he does something grand and idiotic because he believes he can pull it off just because he is better, and every time it blows up in his face.

Cersei Lannister

She frames her daughter-in-law Marg for adultery (which is high treason when you're a queen) by getting a guy to falsely confess to the Pope. Unfortunately the Pope gets him to tell the truth that the only queen he fucked was actually Cersei herself and she also got him to kill the previous Pope for her (this is considered deicide btw.) She also ends up being accused of regicide of her husband (which she did) and adultery/high treason (which she did) and incest (which she did). To ensure Marg would be as screwed as possible she also had a bunch of laws changed (which she was told was a bad idea) which not only bite her in the ass but could potentially undermine the power of the crown significantly. She did all this due to a prophecy that made her think Marg is gonna take her down with no evidence (Marg is literally 16 and seems to be just chillin) and due to trying to avert the prophecy may very well make it come true, including not only being taken down but also all her kids dying and her brother-lover killing her. Whoopsie.; Generally spends all her time making the dumbest decisions possible while thinking about how smart she is. Everything ends up coming back around to screw her

So obsessed with herself she fucks her twin. Convinced she's the only smart person in the room constantly. Feels threatened by literal preteens because of a prophecy that told her she'd be cast down by someone "younger and more beautiful". Believes herself superior to everyone around her. Eventually gets brought low by trying to blackmail and bribe the faith into imprisoning her 16 year old daughter in law and is humiliated by being forced to walk naked across the city. Of course, she finishes it swearing revenge.; Loves her children only as an extension of herself.

Every Starfleet Uniform Ranked By How Annoying The Sleeve Is To Sew, Part 2

Part 1

6. TOS Men's Uniform:

Here we have 1. Quite a severe curve 2. with a zipper in it 3. an invisible zipper at that 4. with pattern matching through the zipper at the collar

5. in velour (slippery). Woof.

7. Disco:

OK we've got two points of pattern matching, but they don't have to be too precise because they've got this round shiny striped piece between them. Of course that piecing means we're basically setting a sleeve in twice, but I will concede that the stretch will be more forgiving than a woven would be. Add in the piecing on the bicep and two different sticky rubber-y fabrics for further difficulty. 

8. TNG Version 2B and Voyager:

All the work of a tailored sleeve with an added inverse corner in an intersection of four seams.

PLUS two points of pattern matching, which is very tricky in an armsyce because you're trying to get the pitch right. You can see in TNG they often have trouble with it and have either a jog in the pattern matching

or too much ease in the wrong place to force the pattern to match.

They seem to have figured it out by Voyager though. I'm also fairly certain they have raglan shoulder pads in them instead of regular ones, which isn't really harder I guess but is a bit odd (no shade, they're incredibly flattering).

9. DS9/ TNG Movies:

All the difficulties of the TNG armscye and now we've added trim, meaning we really have four points of pattern matching instead of two. I could be persuaded that the contrast pieces are applied over the upper sleeve piece instead of pieced, which is easier than what TNG is doing.

10. Enterprise:

I think this is regular raglan sleeve and not some kind of half raglan/half set in sleeve like we see in TNG. Either way it's a bit easier than the TNG sleeve because the trim and yoke are applied on top and top stitched. But we've still got that mitered corner in our bias trim and our four points of pattern matching on the shoulder seam. And then we've also added like four zippers!!!

11. Picard:

What did the stitchers do to this designer? FOUR inverse corners (I guess at least it doesn't intersect a seam this time) PLUS the piecing at the cuff, PLUS all the pattern matching at the armscye, and all in stretch (I think). The only reason it's not the most difficult sleeve is because it looks fairly flat and I bet if you do a nice tight hand baste you can get everything lined up on the first try. Also this is not strictly speaking part of the sleeve but those little corners in the yoke? Good grief.

12. TNG Version 2A:

Never in my life have I seen an armscye like this. What is this even called? How do you construct it? I suppose I would sew the sleeve pieces together, set them in the armscye, then sew the raglan/yoke pieces together at the shoulder seam and then stitch them all the way across the front and then all the way across the back. But good grief. The ONLY other sleeve I could find remotely like this is this 1940s Simplicity pattern (it's on ebay if you want it).

With a few added seams you can imagine what these pattern pieces must look like.

13. TNG Version 1:

All the malarkey of 2A except you've got to do it in spandex. I'd pick wool any day. We also have a second yoke (?!) so now we have to do that little inverse corner TWICE and also add piping. Never in my life have I done an intersection of piping correctly the first time.

And then on top of all that it's ugly. Terrible sewing experience. Worst sleeve in Star Trek *bangs gavel*.

1. The background of Nandor's crypt lurches back into detail as Nadja slams the door open behind them, catching Guillermo half in Nandor's lap, cupping his face with their mouths half an inch apart. Nandor is holding his elbows. They both freeze in place, eyes wide, as Nadja shouts "Guillermo, there you are!"

2a. Wide shot from Nadja's POV as Guillermo slips out of Nandor's lap, curling his hands up defensively against his chest. Nandor is molded to his chair, hands gripping the arms again. They both stare nervously at Nadja, wide eyed with shock and flushed and sweating as she rants from offscreen: "There are like 30 ravens in the backyard for you. I told them I am not a fucking messenger boy but they are being very insistent and Laszlo is getting tired of shooting them out of my vagina! Go out and talk to them before my darling stupid husband sets them all on fire!" 2b. Reverse shot of Nadja at the door, who steps to the side as Guillermo awkwardly tiptoes past her in an obvious bid to escape the situation, face turned from the viewer, saying "Right, yup! I'm going!" Nadja looks after him with a stern expression. 2c. Repeat, Guillermo now out of frame as Nadja turns back towards Nandor and the viewer, one hand on her hip. Speech bubble with ellipses. 2d. Repeat, Nadja's eyes flick downwards.

3a. Full body of Nandor sitting in the chair on a whimsical red and gold fleur de lis background. He quickly crosses his legs to cover himself, flushed purple and sweating, eyes wide and round with panic as he stares past the viewer at Nadja. His hair is tangled and sticking out on one side from Guillermo's halted fingering, and his ellipses speech bubble is shaky and dripping with anxiety. 3b. Extractions! (Tooth vs. Nail)

I've been wanting to do this one for a long time, for all you torture fans out there...

So I metabolize lidocaine like a motherfucker, and any time I get a local, I always have to get a second one halfway through whatever is being done. For the most part, doctors and dentists listen to me when I say this... for the most part.

Tooth

(The oral surgeon did not give me my second shot when I asked for it.)

1. Any fillings you have will collapse under the pressure of an extraction, even a medicated one. (I'm not sure if this is true for metal ones; all of mine are plaster.) It produces a half-crunch, half-thunk sound that reverberates in that half of your skull and sounds absolutely terrifying.

2. The pain of an unmedicated extraction is acute and radiating at the same time. The acute part feels more like having a stiletto stabbed upward into that space than a tooth taken out in a downward motion.

2a. In maxillary extractions, the stab goes straight up, and depending on the location of the tooth, that stab can feel pointed anywhere from your eyeball (frontmost) to right into your brain (rear).

2b. Mandibular extractions* stab downward from the chin (frontmost) to the hinge of your jaw and straight down your throat (rear).

3. The radiating part spreads like a flower blooming, from a concentrated central point outward in a rolling movement.

4. Your ears might pop like an airplane taking off as that blooming pain reaches the hinge of your jaw. Sometimes only in the one ear.

Nail

(I have been doing minor self-surgery** for years because I am genetically predisposed to ingrown nails, and if I don't catch it in time, they grow straight down and I have to extract them to be able to trim them. If I really don't catch it in time, they grow straight down and then curl backward, and I have to get an actual surgeon involved.)

1. Self-surgery, split off edge of nail, 0 to 1/2" down and backward: You have to wiggle these in a sawing/rocking motion back and forth in order to get that tiny bit of root to let go, and when you "saw" backward it feels more like a steak knife than a butter knife, this time moving with the direction of the nail. Then it reverses when you actually yank.

1a. The yank hurts more than the sawing, sharp like a stab from a steak knife instead of one being pushed in slowly.

1b. You will get the best whump out of a whumper splitting off the edges of the nail and doing this and then yanking the middle part

2. Medicated: Locals in the toe/finger area hurt like a bitch. They're sharp and needling like a stiletto to a paper cut, then if someone tried to pry that cut open. At the same time, they feel hot, almost burning. (Hotter than anesthetic being pushed through an IV, if you're familiar with that sensation.) And there are so many nerves involved that just the first round of locals takes 3-4 shots.

3. Unmedicated, grown down and backward, 1/2" to 3/4": The last time I went in, my surgeon said "given the amount of times I have to shoot you up, you'll probably hurt less if I just yank." (She was right.) This sumbitch goes in both directions, down/back from where the root is, then forward. The down/back is a stabbing pain. The forward is like somebody trying to pry open that papercut, a sensation probably caused by the fact that you are in fact messing with something stuck in a very small cut in the skin, in my case the cut was just caused by the nail that has now been removed.

4. If it is a toenail extraction, you are going to bleed significantly more than teeth or fingernails, because your body has to work harder pushing blood up through your leg veins than it does pushing it down into your shoe. Especially when you take a step. Ibuprofen makes this worse. If you take ibuprofen at all that day, expect your shoe to fill up when you take a step. (Mine did, scaring the tar out of everyone present, including me.)

Pain Intensity Verdict:

Teeth > Nails. By a LOT.

*Because of nerve fuckery, dentists using the sonic cleaning tool despite my warnings results in a pain on the level of extractions, and the sensations described here are based on my experience with that.

**This never fails to horrify my friends. They'll see what I'm fixing to work on and say, "Oh ouch, that's bad, go to the doctor," and I'm just like "nah, just get me isopropyl alcohol and some office supplies, I got this."

mel is a demon (not the biblical kind) and studies whats basically magic biology + psychology =D she also really enjoys traveling and wood carving! cree is human and i originally made him a lawyer of some kind but currently that's up in the air lol, he loves bad tv shows and pointing out the inaccuracies in them! they watch horror movies together and laugh at how stupid the characters are <3

cree is the sole braincell in their friend group most of the time and he only uses it when he finds it funny or when his friends' shenanigans go a bit too far and they need bailing out

mel loves traveling solely for the sake of learning, she's totally the museum going type (cree is too but for completely different reasons) i imagine she gets genuinely a bit bummed when there isn't some kind of guided tour for her to take when traveling (she doesn't need it but she likes the experience)

they hated each other when they first met, cree was in a 'being an asshole is totally a normal and acceptable coping mechanism' phase and mel's usual trauma response is of the 'angry at the world and everyone in it' variety. they became close after being forced to become roommates and having to be in close proximity to each other's pathetic attempts at pretending to be alright

mel is american and cree is german-japanese, mel is completely emancipated + no contact while cree has a cordial but kind of strained relationship with his adoptive mother

mel's face markings are actually burns! (i just kinda suck at illustrating them lol) they extend all down her torso and part of her legs and arms

mel is very strong and frequently swings cree around just for funsies, whether cree enjoys this depends on the day

mel changes her hair very frequently, this is due to her demon-ness providing her shape-shifting abilities, this is hilariously the only thing she really uses it for

cree has a collection of those weird shirts that you see in facebook ads (and also memes) he got one from one of his siblings as a joke and everyone else just ran with it

speaking of siblings, cree has 8 and mel had 1, cree is also a twin though they're not really on speaking terms at the moment

mel cooks while cree bakes, because cree is good at the chemistry-ness of baking while mel is good at the whole add whatever your heart tells you to aspects of cooking

cree totally once mixed some unholy drink concoction (like coffee redbull and cherry pepsi or something similarly unholy) at 3 am and instead of telling him it was a bad idea mel probably asked him for a sip

mel is totally normal about her job she totally doesn't go on hours long rants about the effects of long term exposure to magical artifacts nope totally not

There's one part in Duelist Kingdom (when the rules didn't matter) where the Kuribohs multiply and there's an endless amount of them.

Have you seen this adorable fluff ball?! He's adorable and will take a hit for you because he loves you.

It's just a small, fluffy guy. One that Yugi and Atem used destroy many an opponent, an example of how even a monster that seems useless can be used to topple an opponent. But mostly I'm submitting him because he's a small, fluffy guy. Very iconic, even if it's not the strongest monster.

In my opinion, he's the mascot of DM. Of the whole series, really. That's why there's on in each series. But you cannot go wrong with the OG!!

Due to the high number of submissions received shortly upon making the blog, submissions will now be closing on July 20th! Submissions are now officially closed! Preliminaries are planned to be held over the next couple days, and the bracket itself is planned to be announced on July 22nd or 23rd!

Some rules, guidelines, and disclaimers before getting started!

The bracket is aimed to be announced on August 1st or 2nd! Due to the high number of submissions received shortly upon making the blog, the projected date for the bracket reveal is now July 22nd or 23rd!

Depending on how many unique submissions are made, this bracket may have 16, 32, or 64 participants! If more scientists are submitted past that, there's the potential that a second bracket may be held, though that's not guaranteed. Due to the high number of submissions received shortly upon making the blog, the bracket will now contain 128 participants! Rounds 1 and 2 will be split into 1A/1B and 2A/2B respectively. Starting with round 3 there will no longer be a split. This is to avoid mod getting overwhelmed with sorting through 64 polls worth of propaganda all at once, but I'm sorry for the inconvenience!

This bracket will generally work off of a weekly format, though exceptions may be made for special outliers.

While SGGShowdown understands that trashtalking is part of the bracket experience, please try to keep it respectful! Mod reserves the right to block voters for being too rowdy or disqualify participants if their supporters cause too much of a ruckus. This is mainly intended to be a celebration of girl scientists in media, so aim to keep the mood light!

Real people and OCs will not be accepted, and while no fandoms will be banned outright, mod reserves the right to exclude characters that they believe may cause unnecessary drama or they personally take issue with.

In order to have as much fandom diversity as possible, mod will be limiting the number of participants from a fandom to one (or two if there's enough submissions for the bracket to feature 64 participants.) Due to the high influx of submissions received shortly upon making the blog, this bracket will now feature a fandom cap of 3! If you'd like to submit multiple characters from a piece of media, you might have a better time getting the girls into the bracket if you submit them as a single participant! As an example, if you'd like to submit multiple girls from the same property that are all part of their school's science club, you could submit them as [School]'s Science Club rather than submitting them as five individuals. If multiple girls are submitted from the same property, 1 day preliminaries may be held to determine which will make it into the bracket proper.

While genius is right there in the name, science is far more the focus of this poll! As long as your girl's interest in science is one of her main character traits, she may be implemented even if she's not the brightest! Mod is an avid fan of failgirls, so there's no need to worry about your character being smart enough to be accepted!

In a similar vein, while mod supports smart girls from all walks of life, this is a poll about scientists first and foremost. Authors and literaries are fantastic, but we're specifically shooting for women in STEM here!

That being said, the science your girl specializes in does not necessarily have to be one that exists in the real world! If your girl is in a setting where magical or otherwise fantastical setting and her field of study centers around something unique to the setting, she may also be accepted! As long as they have the science girl vibe, they may be accepted!

SGGShowdown is the first tournament that mod has hosted, so I'd like to ask for your understanding if any missteps or mistakes are made along the way.

The askbox is open if you have any questions you'd like to ask me, though I will note that questions such as "How many submissions do you have for [character]?" or "Will [character] be making it into the bracket?" will be deleted. "How many submissions do you have for [fandom]?" will be permitted due to the cap, but please search to see if that question has already been addressed.

Here's some specific tags this blog intends to make use of!

Part of Your World still hits so hard and makes me so emotional, despite not feeling very attached to this movie. Jodi Benson has such a beautiful voice! I haven't watched the live-action remake so I don't know how good that rendition of Part Of Your World is, but this one is so incredibly powerful.

Xehanort

He so believes hes the only one correct that hes trying to clone himself thirteen fucking times. Restarts a war that ended 400 years ago and then gets beat by a 16 year old. Always scheming and is so sure that all his little schemes are gonna happen perfectly even though he KEEPS getting foiled. Like every time. Keeps scheming anyways. Ends up acheiving his long term goal (opening kingdom hearts) but then doesn't know what to do with it and then gets killed badly.

Vegeta

His hubris is the core of his character for the first few arcs, and while he has moved past it somewhat in later ones it still remains a large part of his personality; List of things Vegeta’s pride has screwed up: Goaded Frieza into transforming on Namek Allowed Cell to achieve perfection Allowed Babidi to possess him so he could fight Goku, directly leading to Majin Buu’s revival and all the death and destruction that followed Dragged out the fight and gave Frieza an opening to blow up Earth during Resurrection F Ultra Ego in the DB Super manga is basically him weaponizing his hubris to enter a state where his hubris makes him stronger. However this also comes with the drawback of being consumed by it.

Vegeta will usually let his opponents gain some kind of advantage so he can have a good fight. This has happened with Cell (letting him absorb Android 18, powering up to perfect form and nearly destroying the planet) and Babidi (which gave Vegeta power to fight Goku again, but allowed Buu to be resurrected as a direct result). Vegeta will then always try to fight the big bad, showing how no matter how strong they get, he will always be stronger. ...it never works, and Goku and co. usually have to bail him out; The only time this man was ever humble dealing with a threat was when the threat was literally God.
