reloaded: Rotten Judgement
Tumblr media
ROTTEN JUDGEMENT IS BACK
This story has been hidden for quite the longest time (a year, exactly). I wanted to turn this into an original story and I grew paranoid with the cases of plagiarism in the fandom and the possibility of seeing my work somewhere without my permission. However, when I began working it into an original story, I realized it needs a major rewriting. And, since I hid it, multiple of you have asked whether I would be uploading it again or not—I've been notified of reddit threads sharing a link, people exchanging the files. It flatters me, truly. So, I thought: This is nonsense. This work is already copyrighted (because of the "what ifs", and because I work in publishing, so I know how these things go) and even if it wasn't, there is no way this is going to be an original story as it is. So, here I am again. I thank you from the bottom of my heart if you want to reread this.
And if you want to share it with others, with your Eremika community, with people who might like politics even though they might not be fans, it will make me very happy. If you want to talk about it, to gush, to complain about what I make the characters go through, my ask is always open (or you can comment on ao3).
All the art done for the fic was work of @dead-dolphins. She's an amazing writer and if you follow her, you will know that she gifts you with the most special aesthetics ever, too.

Vaggie: "Well I'm stuck in hell with the people I used to murder en mass, one eye missing and no wings. Plus some new trust issues. Annnd guilt. Also a total lack of purpose. I can probably be captured and tortured for eternity or whatever, or have my soul enslaved, but at least as an angel I can't die."
Vaggie: "I should probably not tell people I'm an angel though. Or a former exorcist. Might give them ideas...."
Vaggie: "Staying with the actual princess of hell ALSO isn't the smartest idea, but Charlie is beautiful and silly and brilliant and a mess and I love her."
Vaggie: "who said that."

if there's a prize for rotten judgement, i guess i've already won that - 2
mel medarda x jayce talis
hercules au
word count: 1,206
Guilt flooded Mel's system as she pushed her way through the crowded streets of Thebes. Mel wasn't like her mother. At least she didn't think she was. For one, her mother was ruler of the Underworld, Mel wasn't. Ambessa also placed little value in emotions and feelings, viewing them as weaknesses that could be exploited. She carried this ideology throughout her life, even using it in her parenting and keeping her children at arm's length. She had sent Mel away years ago for being too soft, only to call her back to her side after Kino, her son, had passed. Mel had accepted the way her mother was ages ago, but it didn't make her actions hurt any less. She knew Ambessa loved her and Kino, but she couldn't help but wish that Ambessa was more like other parents, willing to freely express love and affection without needing to deem her children worthy of it first. Even after all these years, Mel still wanted to earn Ambessa's favor. She knew it was foolish to still be seeking her mother's approval. She was a grown woman who had survived for years without her mother's praise. But she was also just a girl desperate to prove herself worthy of her mother's pride. After all, Ambessa was the only family she had left. She'd lost so much time with Kino. She couldn't allow the same to happen with her mother.
Her eyes fell to her ring that held her mother's symbol. She sighed, cursing under her breath before crying out, "Help! Please! Someone help! There's been a terrible accident!"
"Mel?"
It was just the voice she wanted to hear. Her stomach twisted as she saw his and Viktor's faces appear amid the crowd. She pushed her guilt down and kept up the act, rushing to him, "Jayce. Thank the gods."
Jayce's eyes searched her face in a way that almost made Mel feel transparent. "What's wrong?"
"Outside of town...an old woman. There was that rock slide, a terrible rock slide. She's trapped! Please, you have to help her," Mel begged, resting her hand on his upper arm.
Jayce turned to Viktor with a grin. "You hear that? Viktor, this is great!"
That hadn't exactly been the reaction she was expecting. She couldn't help muttering, "You're really choked up about this, aren't you?"
Jayce didn't respond, whistling loudly. The pegasus Mel had seen earlier swooped down and landed next to them. Jayce helped himself up first before extending his hand to Mel, "Come on."
Mel quickly shook her head, "No, it's okay. You go. I...I'm scared of heights." In truth, she just couldn't bear to watch what was about to happen. If his victory against Nessus was a fluke...she didn't want to think about it.
Despite her protest, Jayce tugged her up, situating her in front of him. He then turned to his friend, "Viktor? Come on."
Viktor, who had been staring at Mel's hand, pulled his gaze away with an unreadable expression, "Go ahead without me. I'll catch up to you."
Mel didn't have any time to decipher his tone or expression before the winged horse took off, making her yelp. Jayce laughed behind her, "Don't worry. I've got you." His hands came up to rest on her waist. The touch was unfamiliar, but not unwelcome. She closed her eyes and let herself be in the moment. The wind whipped through her hair and for a moment, she felt free. The feeling was fleeting and quickly cut short as the pegasus landed on the ground near the ravine. The memory of what she was there to do washed over her, causing her to feel sick.
"Are you alright?" Jayce asked, offering a hand to help her to the ground.
"I'm fine. Just get me down," Mel lied through her teeth as she took his hand. Once she was safely on the ground, she pointed at a large boulder. "There! That's where she's trapped."
Right on cue, she heard Ambessa's muffled voice, "Someone please help! I can't move this rock!" She added a cough for good measure and Mel barely suppressed the urge to roll her eyes.
Jayce clambered down the ditch and Mel followed close behind. Her eyes widened as he lifted the boulder like it weighed nothing, revealing a disguised Ambessa. "Don't worry ma'am," he grinned, "It's okay now."
Mel finally managed to tear her eyes away from Jayce as Ambessa shuffled out of the cavern to the sound of thunderous applause from the crowd that had formed. If Mel wasn't part of the plan, she would never have recognized her. Her disguise made her look frail, a word Mel would never use to describe her mother. She looked every bit like the delicate, helpless old woman she was portraying. He tossed the boulder to the side, eliciting another cheer from the crowd. Ambessa reached up to pat his cheek, "My, such a strong. young man. Thank you." She then turned to Mel, pointed a wrinkled finger at her. "You. Girl. Help me out."
Mel silently offered her arm, starting to head back up to where the crowd had gathered. She paused, taking one last look at Jayce. He was positively beaming as the cheers for him filled the air. Her heart ached, knowing that it would all be ruined in a few moments. She forced herself to look away as she and Ambessa finally reached the top of the gorge. Once they were out of view from everyone, Ambessa's disguise melted away. "You were staring at him an awful lot," she noted.
"Mother-"
"No, no," Ambessa waved Mel off, a chilling smile on her face, "I'm not mad. You were just getting your last looks in. Who could blame you for that?"
Mel turned away as the familiar roar of the Hydra echoed through the air, followed by the screams of the crowd. She wasn't like her mother. She couldn't bear to watch the violence. "Come on, Jayce," she whispered to herself. She squeezed her eyes shut, trying to block out the sounds. The roars, the gasps, Ambessa's gleeful comments. It was all too much. She barely knew the man, but if she got him hurt, or worse, killed, she didn't think she'd ever be able to forgive herself. A chill ran down her spine mere moments before a triumphant laugh rang out from beside her. She turned around, dread pooling in her stomach when all she saw was a mountain of rocks and the closed claw of the Hydra at the bottom. She bit the inside of her cheek and looked down, desperately trying to maintain an unaffected demeanor in front of her mother, acting as though she hadn't been shattered by Jayce's defeat. Her mind drifted to Viktor. She didn't want to imagine the grief he would likely feel.
The claw twitched, instantly drawing Mel's attention. She didn't think much of it at first, but then it twitched again. Her breath caught in her throat. There was no way. He couldn't have...
It sprang open, revealing a very disheveled, but very alive and very triumphant Jayce. The screams and cheers were instantaneous. Mel couldn't hold back her relieved smile, murmuring, "Well, what do you know?"

three days in the house of atreus ; act two
ORESTES: I was born here and can remember nothing of it. PYLADES: Did you expect to remember something? ORESTES: Someone’s face. The room I was meant to live in. The voice of my mother—the voice of my father. PYLADES: Let us find his tomb before we go deeper into this lair. ORESTES: I fear to see it. In my dreams, he is just behind a door. In my dreams, I see him still. PYLADES: What does his face look like? ORESTES: (Beat). Like mine.

i wish a lot of people would be more open about the last airbender live action show
i can do a whole rant on how diluting Sokka's sexism isn't a bad thing, because i keep seeing it everywhere and it pisses me off - and you know what? i'm going to. strap in losers, i'm not TLDR-ing this nor putting it under a cut and you better fucking read the whole thing before you comment
so, Sokka's sexism: doesn't actually make that much sense. now before the people who are all up in arms about this come at me, i can prove it to you
we'll start with Hama, the SWT waterbender the Gaang meet in the Fire Nation: she was an active part of defense of the SWT when they still had waterbenders. WHAAAT???! women defense? in my southern water tribe???? (please pick up on that sarcasm) a lot of people talk about how getting rid of Sokka's sexism is only a surface level understanding of the character and show, but his sexism IS a surface understanding of the world. i'm sure the writers had at least major plot points written out by the pilot episode, but there's no way they had the full series written and ready to go, no one does. which means that there is some world building that changed or was created that no longer supports initial decisions from the first episodes.
Hama is also Gran Gran's age - THEY WERE FRIENDS!! Gran Gran also LEFT the Northern Water Tribe, her BIRTHPLACE because of how sexist it was. And you think Gran Gran was going to let her son AND her grandson grow up sexist? Bitch, please. I just know that small sexist comments Sokka picked up from lord knows where were beaten (metaphorically) out of him by his grandmother, who basically raised him and Katara after Hakoda left for war.
speaking of Hakoda: he does not seem like the parent that would make his son, the only of age (so to speak) boy in a village with the heavy burden of hunting and defense. given what we know about Gran Gran, it's possible that a lot more women were doing hunting, even if the village was tiny, because of the desperate circumstances the SWT faced. especially given that Sokka hadn't completed his ice dodging trials and therefore hadn't gone through his coming of age ceremony. would Sokka have tried to do it all by himself? yeah probably. but it would have been because HE wanted to help, not because he was told his was his 'responsibility as a man' - though there's always the fact that he could phrase it like that to which i know Katara would hit him for. Hakoda literally wishes that his kids didn't have to grow up so quickly just to stop the war
given all of that, it makes sense that they would change his character to either not be sexist or just be less sexist. the world changed by the end of the show from where it started (world building wise) so it makes sense that they are now starting the story from the top but built into the world that was made.
also i saw someone mention that Sokka not making sexist remarks will keep Aang in the iceberg and i've never wanted to call someone an only child more than in that moment

That's the King of Hell. The head honcho. This imp's ass couldn't hold a fucking candle to him. Lucifer alone already illuminates this pathetic existence of a Hell hole. Especially, granting a lower demon like him his time.
What more could he possible ask of him ? Plus he'll probably taint their reputation it's better not to follow through with his sappy feelings

@sirensought continued from X
Sopping wet curls cling to every inch of her countenance with bits of sea-weed lingering interspersed incriminatingly. Every step trudged forwards is AGONIZED and HAGGARD as Melody shuffles towards her father's study, leaving a trail of scarlet dribble in her wake. "D--Da--Dad?" Her voice tremulously catches as he rises from his chair. "I-- maybe- sort of--- kind--- of messed up." Her words are tinctured with pain.

Ashamed, tear-flooded eyes turn up to meet his expecting that JUDGEMENT is about to be passed. She allows him to tip her head slowly upwards. "I--- I'm really-- sorry I -- I disobeyed you." The young princess utters between a series of forceful shivers. "I-- I ran away to -- to the SEA." A sea that she KNEW was FORBIDDEN. It was so forbidden there were WALLS built around the castle to keep her OUT.
Cold fingers remain CURLED about an IRON-BAR spearing her tired form, trying futilely to stay the bleeding. Yet, it still poured betwixted guarded fingers. "Mor--- Morgana ---" Melody whimpers. "I-- I trusted her to-- to -- help me. She-- she said that she could tell me-- wh-- who I-- I really am." Her frigid cheeks blanch. "She ---- said -- there's a -- a price to be paid fo-- for answers."
Tired eyes bid her father to follow her's downwards to where her hands are rigidly collapsed. "Th-- then sh-- she did --- this." The trembling of her frame amplifies TEN-FOLD. "P--please -- please don't be mad."

wip wednesday
here's a little excerpt from the hercules au!!
"So...this is what heroes do on their days off..."
Jayce jumped at the sudden voice. He turned, lighting up when he saw who it was. "Mel!" he exclaimed. Realizing that may have been too much, he rubbed the back of his neck, murmuring, "Come on...I'm not a hero."
"Oh, really?" She pushed off the wall she had been leaning against. "Your fan club outside could've fooled me."
Jayce wanted to respond in a witty way. He wanted to be clever and funny and say something that could make her laugh, but his mouth moved faster than his brain. "I missed you."

it's unexpected , the stern toned remark of uso , but if it phases her , she doesn't let it show beyond short lived pout and nonchalant shrug . menacing grin permeates features and one might wonder if her time in the judgement day faction , working oh so closely with the eradicator , wasn't rubbing off on her in more ways than one . she wasn't going anywhere , not just yet .
