I'm watching FMA and FMA:B for the first time. Yes, simultaneously.

I watched both of their first two episodes already and just started FMA:B's third episode and... not gonna lie... I am not particularly fond just judging from those first five minutes

THAT'S Rose?? What happened to her?!

In FMA she was really nice, and her joke about Edward growing taller if he'd pray was just that, a joke. Here she just comes across as wanting to convert them? Not to mention that she seems to have much less emotions all around

And in FMA, Edward sought out Rose AFTER he found out she was grieving her boyfriend. The meeting was personal, coming from shared experiences.

In FMA:B, the church scene is their first interaction. The warning was turned into a lecture

Maybe some will see this completely different than me and that's fine. Those are just my thoughts and opinions

so a long while back i had an fma realization i never got around to posting here about it until now, but while thinking about it today i had another one.

it's easy to forget because it isn't brought up in the movie proper, but in conqueror of shamballa, there is actually a very good reason why ed won't let alfonse or noah to his home dimension: remember in episode...50 i think? when ed first came to our side of the gate? he inadvertently possessed his alternate self, and then accidentally got him killed, which is why the second time he crosses over it's as himself.

it's not really confirmed whether he figured out noah's connection to rose or not, but either way he has no way of knowing if her alternate self is still alive or not and doesn't want to risk that person's life (he may have learned about rose from winry while getting his arm updated, but he was preventing it even before that), and he almost certainly knows about alfonse and alphonse. (even then, letting someone like, say, german!hughes into amestris runs the risk of amestrian!hughes's family projecting onto him, which would be its own can of worms.)

this all led me to another realization: this is not the first time ed has prevented a woman (with a masculine name even!) from taking over rose's body.

(side note - another realization: this confirms dietlinde eckhart's alternate self is dead, since she keeps her own body after crossing over too. as are hohenheim and envy's selves, though considering their ages that wouldn't be too surprising.)

Am I the only one in the FMA fandom that sees Edward and winry more as siblings than a couple? I always thought Ed was a better match for rose Thomas

Me personally, I see why folks ship Edward and Winry--I mean, it's Canon and literally meant to be read that way.

That being said I just have a hard time believing after the death of Winry's parents and Ed's mother, being raised together by grandma, that they aren't essentially siblings.

To me, most of my shipping comes from fma 2003 though--brotherhood (close to canon) didn't go too deep into Rosé's character. In 2003 I mean--she's an essential character and a reminder to Ed what the military has done and that he can't turn a blind eye to the atrocities in Ishval and Liore.

And ontop of that, like, he genuinely cares about Rosé and is truly enamored by how strong and kind she is. Despite everything, even after such traumatic events--she takes his advice. She continues to live on, move forward, and it's because of him (and Scar).

Also also 2003 Rosé is dark skin and as a black girl who had just started watching anime, she influenced me so much and I had a crush on Edward in middle school so guess who projected themselves onto her? 🤣

Meeting Greed

It turns out that one of the seven homunculi was none other than William's automail mechanic's boss. A small world, after all.

I thought the Rush Valley crew would be a fitting gang for Ed!Greed. I won't go into detail but Greed is the 4' nothin' mafia don of Rush Valley. He and his gang front as an automail shop, while constructing weapons and trading secrets behind the scenes.

Rose is an interesting case but that should be expanded on elsewhere, sometime.

Anyway, now. They're at an stalemate: Bill wants his brother back; Greed wants Rose safe. Equivalent Exchange, right?
