OK so remember how we were talking about how different characters in the show style themselves differently ar certain points to make themselves into something their love interest would like? Like Nancy dressing more New Wave-y to fit Jonathan's musical tastes, Lucas wearing the Karate Kid-inspired shirt because Max was crushing on Ralph Macchio, etc?
Remember this part?

I wanted her to look at me...

Interestingly the boat scene is a pretty obvious reference towards Tangled - another ElMax parallel as well (which is mixed with Matrix in the revival - btw in the script the revival pretty much resembles Tangled even more) .
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Oh, and we shouldn't forget the fact that Robin is wearing a barett such as Tom Cruise in one of his films - like Lucas wearing very Karate Kid like cloths because Max likes Ralph Machio.
Tumblr media
And Lucas and El are paralleled fighting for Max (El = mind ; Lucas = reality) and as winners aftee waking up (El in a memory =mind ; Lucas in reality) , both represented in comics Max likes.

Thinking that established straight monogamous ships are Endgame (except that one gay ship) as I noticed esp on certain platforms is the mindset of some fans and leaving no room for anything else like other queer or polyamorous relationships is kinda conservative in my book.
(I mean if all the other ships that are queer shouldn't happen because they may disrupt or change the dynamics of established straight ships because you are used to the straight ships...how would you describe this?)

And also!!! Robin was speaking to Nancy's heart, validating the misogyny she had dealt with in S3 (that Jonathan couldn't quite understand).
Nancy's face goes through an expressive Journey™ during Robin's rant at Dr. Hatch and I love it.
She obviously starts out anxious and frustrated that she can't openly argue against Robin's unexpected new tactic.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Look at this face. This is the face of a quietly terrified woman who desperately wants to fix the situation, but no idea how.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
But then Robin starts to get into the Petey McHew story and something starts to change.
The frustration has fled.
She's starting to see the heart and purpose of this rant. But still, that worry, is this the right way to do this? It's impressive, but could go so wrong.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Then there's this look. This right here is the real kicker.
Tumblr media
This is the moment that Nancy fell just a little more in love with Robin.
It's before she knew if it worked. She's still nervous about that as you can see here.
Tumblr media
That moment was not because Robin was successful, though Nancy was far more hopeful about that than previously. This moment is reminiscent of the last scene in the library when Robin challenged her idea further along, and Nancy stared at her in wonder. Yet another moment where Robin proves she is so much more than she first appears and Nancy is really starting to catch onto that fact.
In that moment, Nancy is just a little in awe, of the passion she is capable of pulling out of seemingly nowhere, of the genius of this move, of her. Robin makes her think, makes her question and reconsider, and open her mind to more possibilities, and you can see the growth of their relationship through a series of instances like these throughout the season.

Thinking how in S4 vol 2 we have a wheeler whose friends have been kinda pushing her towards a love interest she has no interest in, and same for steve, and then we have another wheeler whose friends have been kinda pushing him towards a love interest that... he actually loves? Apparently.
And even tho they'd been together for like a year or so he still needs pushing from his (gay) friend (just like robin (lesbian) pushes nancy a bit, or eddie (queercoded) pushes steve). Anyway I'm just saying that the random stancy scenes are the worst, but have some similarities with vol 2 mileven.
Nancy and Mike parallels keep continuing. Siblings of all time.

We got another one!!
Tumblr media
I love Nancy Wheeler sooooo much, not for the usual empowerment reasons but for how tragic her character is. My heart absolutely shatters for her every single time.
Nancy's story unfortunately is not about growth, it's about loss. The cold, detached, "girlboss" Nancy that emerged around season 2 isn't the result of her growing into a more mature/fully realized person. It's the culmination of her guilt, her grief, the loss of her innocence -- it isn't really Nancy. At least, not all of it is. Nancy is strong and powerful, now more than ever, hell yeah. But she is also a nerd, ambitious and smart and a little prickly. She likes the color pink, she has a wild streak and a romantic one, she thinks Tom Cruise is dreamy, she'll fight tooth and nail to see justice carried out. All of these things are present in season 1 and they're still present in season 4. They just look a little different now.
We see a young and carefree Nancy for approximately 2 episodes before the catalyzing trauma of her life occurs. She is not who she became as a result of that trauma.
If this sounds different than how you've always perceived Nancy, I encourage you to rewatch while keeping this in mind because it really is a gut-wrenching experience (in the best way)! The first time I watched through this lens it gave me a whole new appreciation for her character. But my point is, we should be rooting for Nancy to get back in touch with her younger self- the parts of her that knew love and hope- not to stay trapped in this shell of a girl who deflects her pain with a barrage of bullets.

What if the 3rd place ribbon. next to Steve (behind Nancy's hair) is because he's actually third place in her affections....
