You eyed Dean angrily as he flirted with the attractive woman in front of him dressed as an FBI agent. You knew he was teasing you, and it was pissing you off. You had long since finished your interrogation of the store’s manager. Helena had apparently been a patron of the store for years. Then, one day, she went crazy; the police caught her clearing out the jewelry store’s cases and the safe before shooting someone in the face and killing herself in her bathtub after the crime. You had a sneaking suspicion you were dealing with a shapeshifter; a monster that you were quite over dealing with.
Dean approached you, triumphantly waving the piece of paper with the phone number he’d gotten from the woman he was interviewing.
You snatched it out of his hands.
“Aw, you jealous?” he teased, leaning into you.
You deadpanned, “Keep it professional, Agent Hetfield, wouldn’t want the bureau to hear about this, right?” You ripped the paper up and shoved its tatters into your blazer pocket.
He deflated slightly, but still smirked at you. “I’m gonna make you crack, sweetheart, just wait.”
“Mm-hmm,” you hummed, turning away from him and heading out to the Impala. Admittedly, you were strutting a little bit to tease him.
Sam met you at the car, and the three of you drove to the home of the man whose police statement had been a mix of sci-fi nerd gibberish and the only eye-witness account of the incident.
As you approached the small house, Sam began talking about another piece of the case. “Uh, Milwaukee National Trust. It was hit about a month ago.”
Dean raised a brow. “Same M.O. as the jewelry store?”
“Yep, inside job, longtime employee, the never-in-a-million-years type. Dude robs the bank, then goes home and supposedly commits suicide.”
“The guy, Resnick, he was the security guard on duty?” Dean questioned.
Sam nodded. “Yeah. He was actually beaten unconscious by the teller who heisted the place.”
“Jesus,” you grimaced.
“Yeah,” Sam nodded. He knocked on the screen door. “Mr. Resnick?” A bright flood light turned on, momentarily blinding you.
You raised a hand in front of your eyes. “Holy—”
Sam was apparently unfazed. “FBI, Mr. Resnick.”
Through the screen door, a chubby, nerdy-looking man in his late twenties approached. “Let me see the badge.”
You slapped your badge against the screen next to Sam’s and Dean’s.
Mr. Resnick, whose first name was Ronald, squinted at them carefully. “I already gave my statement to the police.”
Dean chuckled. “Yeah, listen, Ronald, um… just some things about your statement we wanted to get some clarification on.”
“You read it?” He seemed surprised. “You come to listen to what I've got to say?”
“Well, that’s why we’re here,” Dean said.
“Well, come on in.” He opened the door and led you through a narrow hallway to a room cluttered with conspiracy theory paraphernalia.
“None of the cops ever called me back. Not after I told them what was really going on. Uh, they all thought I was crazy,” he rushed out. You were beginning to think the same. “First off, Juan Morales never robbed the Milwaukee National Trust, okay? That, I guarantee. See, me and Juan were friends. He used to come back to the bank on my night shifts, and we'd play cards.”
“So you let him into the bank that night, after hours,” Sam noted.
“The thing I let into the bank…” Ronald trailed off, “wasn't Juan. I mean, it had his face, but it wasn't his face. Uh, every detail was perfect, but too perfect, you know, like if a dollmaker made it, like I was talking to a big Juan-doll.”
You nearly choked on a laugh. “A Juan-doll?”
“Look, this wasn't the only time this happened, okay?” He scrambled through papers on his messy desk and handed you a folder. “There was this jewelry store, too. And the cops, a-and you guys, you just won't see it!” You flipped through the folder; it almost looked like a hunter’s profile of the case. You were half impressed. “Both crimes were pulled by the same thing,” Ronald finished.
Sam pressed, saying, “What's that, Mr. Resnick?”
He picked up a copy of a magazine labeled “Fortean Times” and held it out to you. The headline read, “Birth of the Cybermen.”
‘Jesus Christ,’ you thought, suppressing a grimace.
“Chinese 've been working on 'em for years,” the man explained. “And the Russians before that. Part men, part machine. Like the Terminator. But the kind that can change itself, make itself look like other people.”
Dean smirked. “Like the one from T2.”
“Exactly! See, so not just a robot, more of a- a- a- a— Mandroid," he said finally, a bizarre twinkle in his eye.
“A Mandroid,” you deadpanned. “And what makes you so sure about this, Ronald?”
He held up a finger at you, smiling a little wildly. Your eyes flicked to Dean’s in concern, and he just wiggled his eyebrows at you.
The man returned a moment later holding a VHS tape labeled “M.N.T. Camera 4— Juan.” He inserted it into a player, saying, “See, I made copies of all the security tapes. I knew once the cops got them they'd be buried. Here.” He fast-forwarded a bit in the tape. “Now watch. Watch. Watch him, watch, watch! See, look! Th- th- there it is!” He paused it on a clip of the man with a silver in his eyes. “You see? He's got the laser eyes.”
You gave Sam a knowing look that he returned.
“Cops said it was some kind of reflected light. Some kind of ‘camera flare’. Okay? Ain't no damn camera flare. They say I'm a post-trauma case. So what? Bank goes and fires me, it don't matter!” You eyed Ronald uncomfortably as he continued to pace around and rant. “The Mandroid is— is still out there. The law won't hunt this thing down— I'll do it myself.
"You see, this thing, it- it- it kills the real person, makes it look like a suicide, then it sorta, like, morphs into that person. Cases the job for a while until it knows the take is fat, and then it finds its opening. Now, these robberies, they're, they're grouped together.” He pointed at the map on the wall. “So I figure the Mandroid is holed up somewhere in the middle, underground, maybe. I dunno, maybe that's where it recharges its, uh, Mandroid batteries.”
Dean nodded, seeming impressed. You just looked between Ronald and Dean in confusion.
“Okay. I want you to listen very carefully. Because I'm about to tell you the god's honest truth about all of this,” Sam began.
Your head whipped to him, confused as to where he was going with this.
“There's no such thing as Mandroids. There's nothing evil or inhuman going on out there. Just people. Nothing else, you understand?”
You kept a straight face, but were startled.
“The laser eyes,” Ronald tried desperately.
“Just a camera flare, Mr. Resnick. See, I know you don't want to believe this. But your friend Juan robbed the bank, and that's it,” Sam mollified.
Ronald immediately became angry. “Get out of my house! Now!”
***
You and the brothers found another tacky, cheap motel to stay in for the time being. You lounged on Dean’s bed in a pair of comfortable sweatpants and an oversized band t-shirt.
Dean paced around the room, chuckling. “Man, that has got to be the kicker, straight up. I mean, you tell that poor son of a bitch that— what did you say, remand the tapes that he copied? Classified evidence of an ongoing investigation?” He laughed harder. “That's messed up.”
Sam sat on the foot of the bed and inserted the tape into the television’s player. “What are you, pissed at me or something?”
Dean shook his head. “Nah, I just think it's a little creepy how good of a Fed you are. I mean, come on, we could have at least thrown the guy a bone. He did some pretty good legwork here.”
“Mandroid?” you deadpanned.
“Except for the Mandroid part,” Dean added. “I liked him. He's not that different from you or me. People think we're crazy.”
“He’s not a hunter, though, Dean,” you challenged. “He ran into something real and let his conspiracy-theory-brain-rot get the best of him.”
“Better to stay in the dark, and stay alive,” Sam finished.
Dean shrugged, “Yeah, I guess.” He put a paper down on the map on the table and began marking it with a red pen.
You shuffled forward to Sam and hit the pause button on the remote just as the man’s eyes flashed at the camera.
“Shapeshifter. Just like back in St. Louis. Same retinal reaction to video,” Sam informed.
“Eyes flare at the camera. I hate those fuckin’ things,” Dean grunted.
“You think we don’t?” you scoffed.
“Yeah, well, one didn't turn into you and frame you for murder.”
You shrugged. “Well, look, if this shifter's anything like the one we killed in Missouri—”
“Then Ronald was right. Alright, they like to layer up underground, preferably the sewer. And all the robberies have been connected so far, right?”
Sam nodded.
“With the, uh, sewer main layout. There's one more bank lined up on that same sewer main,” Dean continued.
“Awesome,” you grumbled.
***
Later that evening, you and the brothers headed to the bank Dean referenced, the City Bank of Milwaukee, to see if the shapeshifter would be hitting that one next. You posed as Sam and Dean’s boss, and the two boys wore security camera technician outfits.
The guard of the bank informed you as you walked along, “Well, we haven't had any flags go up on our system yet.”
You shook your head. “No, sir, this is a glitch in the overall grid. I just need to cover all my bases and make sure the branch monitors are okay.”
“Well, better to be safe than sorry, I guess,” the guard shrugged.
“That’s the plan,” you nodded.
He opened the door to an observation room flooded with monitors for you, saying, “Alrighty. You guys need anything else?”
“Nope,” you replied. “We’ll be in and out before you know it. Just a routine check.”
“Okie-dokie,” he said, leaving the room.
Dean chuckled. “I like him. He says ‘Okie-dokie.’ “
“What if he's the shifter?” worried Sam.
“Well, then we follow him home, put a silver bullet through his chestplate,” the older brother replied simply.
You sat down in one of the desk chairs to watch the screens. You kicked your high-heeled feet up on the desk in front of you, leaning back in your seat. “Anybody got popcorn?” you yawned, preparing for the hours of work ahead of you.
***
You and the Winchester boys were beginning to go cross-eyed after searching for the monster for so long.
“Well, it looks like Mr. Okie-Dokie is… okie-dokie,” Dean commented upon seeing his eyes appear normal in the camera screens.
“Maybe we jumped the gun on this, guys,” sighed Sam. “I mean, we don't even know it's here.”
Something caught your eye. “Wait a minute.” A middle-aged man turned toward the camera, and his eyes flared. “Got him.”
“Hello, freak,” Dean growled.
Sam immediately jumped up, as did you, but Dean lingered behind. “Guys, wait!”
“What?” you and Sam spun around.
You then saw Ronald scurrying up to the door of the bank with a chain and a padlock, chaining it shut.
Dean scoffed. “Hello, Ronald.”
You immediately began running down the hall, ignoring the protesting of the soles of your feet as your heels clacked against the floor. As you approached the main lobby of the bank, you heard Ronald screaming for everyone to get on the ground. And then, gunshots.
“Fuck!” you cursed.
“And you said we shouldn't bring guns,” Dean scolded Sam, nearly bumping into someone fleeing past him.
“I didn't know this was gonna happen, Dean,” Sam replied.
“Just let me do the talking,” the older brother commanded. “I don't think he likes you very much, Agent Johnson.”
You saw Ronald standing in front of a group of people huddled together on the floor. “Now, there's only one way in or out of here, and I chained it up. So nobody's leaving, do you understand?”
Your eyes flicked to Dean concernedly as he stepped forward. “Hey, buddy. Calm down. Just calm down—”
Ronald wheeled around. “What the— You! Get on the floor, now.”
Dean began to crouch to the floor, as did you and Sam. “Okay, we're doing that. Just don't shoot anybody, especially us.”
“I knew it. As soon as you two left. You ain't FBI. Who are you? Who are you working for, huh? The men in black? You working for the Mandroid?”
“We’re not working for the Mandroid!” Sam exclaimed.
Ronald shakily aimed his gun at Sam. “You, shut up! I ain't talking to you. I don't like you.”
“Fair enough,” the brunet mumbled.
“Get on 'em. Frisk them down, make sure they got no weapons on them. Go!” Ronald commanded one of the hostages.
“Oh, hell, no, you’re not fucking touching me,” you struggled against the man as he tried to feel you up.
“(Y/N), (Y/N), stop, stop,” Sam pleaded.
You shoved the man off yourself. Your struggle was strategic, though, as it kept him from finding the knives you had planted on yourself; one in your sleeve and one alongside your thigh.
The man moved over to Dean and found a knife stashed in his boot.
“Now what have we here?” Ronald’s question was meant to sound intimidating, but his wavering voice gave him away.
Sam shot Dean a look.
“I'm not just gonna walk in here naked!” Dean hissed back.
“Get back there,” Ronald ordered. You did so, following his pointing of the gun to the group of people behind him. He dropped Dean’s knife in the deposit box, and Dean winced.
“We know you don't want to hurt anybody,” he said. “That's exactly what's gonna happen if you keep waving that cannon around, and why don't you let these people go?”
“No!” Ronald shrieked. “I already told you. If nobody's gonna stop this thing, then I've got to do it myself.”
“Hey, we believe you! That's why we're here,” Dean replied.
“You don't believe me. Nobody believes me! How could they?” he cried.
“Come here,” Dean said.
Ronald scoffed. “What? No.”
“You're holding the gun, boss; you're calling the shots. I just want to tell you something. Come here.”
Ronald approached cautiously and leaned into Dean. You assumed he was telling him who the shifter was.
“Why do you think we've got these getups, huh? We've been monitoring the cameras in the back. We saw the bank manager. We saw his eyes,” Dean whispered.
The shorter man’s eyes widened. “His laser eyes?”
“Yes.” Dean seemed to realize what he’d said. “No. No! No, look, we're running out of time, okay? We've got to find him before he changes into someone else.”
“Like I'm gonna listen to you. You're a damn liar,” Ronald grumbled.
Dean stood cautiously, hands out.
“Dean, no!” you said.
“I'll shoot you! Get down!” Ronald ordered, pointing his rifle at Dean.
“Take me. Okay? Take me with you; take me as a hostage. But we've gotta act fast , because the longer we just sit here, the more time he has to change.” Dean paused. “Look at me, man. I believe you. You're not crazy. There really is something inside this bank.”
Ronald finally nodded. “Alright, you come with me. But everyone else gets in the vault!”
You stood on shaky legs as the people around you gasped and cried. You helped Sam herd everyone into the vault, and Dean tried to calm everyone down when Ronald ordered him to shut the door.
“It's okay, everyone. Just stay cool.” He threw a lingering glance to you before locking the vault completely.
A young redhead stared after Dean. “Who is that man?” she asked breathlessly.
“He's my brother,” Sam replied; you could hear the worry in his voice.
“He is so brave,” she practically moaned.
You rolled your eyes and crossed your arms.
The redhead went silent for a few minutes, and you took some time to thoroughly think your situation over. ‘Cops are gonna be all over this place by now. Dean’s been accused of murder, and the three of us have already been arrested once. Dean’s on the FBI’s radar. Surely, after our escape on the danashulps case, the feds are on us again. Now, we’re smack dab in the middle of a full-on hostage situation. And who are they likely to blame? Us!’ Your anxiety was beginning to get away with you as your thoughts began to swirl in your head. You were then acutely aware of how hot the room was, and unbuttoned the top two buttons of your shirt to keep some circulation moving.
The woman next to you who seemed infatuated with Dean introduced herself to you.
“ ‘Scuse me, sorry. Uh, hi, I’m Sherry,” she said. “You’re, uh, with those guys, too, right?”
You nodded.
“You known them a while?”
You nodded again.
She grinned. “Oh, gosh. What’s it like being around him?”
You snorted. “ ‘Him’ who?”
“That guy! The one who saved our lives!” she beamed. “What’s he like?”
“To tell you the truth, he’s a pain in my ass most of the time,” you giggled, arms crossed over your chest.
“Oh, really?” She deflated a bit before her floaty, trancelike inflection in her voice came back. “He just… He seems so wonderful to be around. I mean, staring down that gun. And, you know, the way— he played right into that psycho's crazy head, telling him what he wanted to hear, I mean—” She trailed off, turning her attention back to you. “He's like, a real hero or, or something.” She tucked a hair behind her ear as she continued to gush.
You nodded again, feeling weirded out.
“Sorry, I just,” she sing-songed, “I’ve never met anyone like him.” She paused, seeming to consider her next question carefully. “You ever… done anything with him?”
You nearly choked at her statement, uncomfortable with the objectification of Dean. “What?”
“Y’know,” she drawled, “How good is he in the—”
You were grateful to hear the vault door unlocking, revealing Dean holding a handgun.
“Oh my god, you saved us! You saved us!” Sherry cheered.
“Actually, I just found a few more. Come on, everybody, let's go. Let's go.” Dean ushered the guard from earlier and a few other people inside the vault.
“What are you doing?” Sherry questioned.
“Sam, (Y/N), look, uh, Ronald and I need to talk to you,” Dean said.
You shot Sam a confused look, and Dean shut the vault door behind him, shrugging apologetically.
“It's shed its skin again,” Dean explained. “We don't know when— it could be in the halls, it could be in the vault.”
“Great,” you sighed. “Y’know, Dean, you are wanted by the police.”
He nodded.
Sam seemed to catch onto where you were headed with this. “So even if we do find this damn thing, how the hell are we gonna get out of here?”
“Well, one problem at a time,” the older brother replied. “Alright, I'm gonna do a sweep of the whole place; see if we can find any stragglers. Once we get everyone together we've got to play a little game of find-the-freak, so… here.” He handed Sam a silver letter opener. “Found another one of these for you. (Y/N), I know you have weapons on you. Best use ‘em.”
You grinned at how well he knew you. You slipped your silver-bladed knife out of your sleeve.
Dean turned to Sam. “Now, stay here, make sure Ronald doesn't hurt anybody, okay? Help him manage the situation.” He turned to you. “C’mon.”
Sam’s voice began rising in outrage. “Help him manage? Are you insane?”
You turned your head to Ronald who seemed shaken, attention caught by Sam’s voice.
“Look, I know this isn't going the way we wanted—”
Dean was cut off by his brother nearly shouting, “Understatement!”
“But if we invite the cops in right now, Ronald gets arrested, we get arrested, the shifter gets away, probably never find it again, okay?” Dean finished.
Ronald peered out of the window in plain view of whoever was down below. You snapped, “Ronald! Out of the light!”
Sam scoffed at his brother, “Seriously?!”
Dean sighed. “Yeah, Ron's game plan was a bad plan, I mean, it was a bit of a crazy plan, but right now, crazy's the only game in town, okay?”
Dean slapped Sam on the shoulder and grabbed your hand, bringing you along with him. ‘If only Sherry could see us now,’ you thought bitterly.
Dean looked over his shoulder at you. “What’s that face about?” he questioned.
“Nothin’,” you replied, still grinning in self-satisfaction, scanning the hallway ahead for anyone or anything.
He just hummed at you, turning his head forward again.
“I hate this case,” you whispered after a few minutes of tense walking.
“Yeah, me too,” he replied, still scanning the ceiling. He seemed to notice something, and you followed his gaze upward. A panel in the ceiling had been left askew. You eyed Dean curiously and took the gun from him, pointing it at the panel while Dean dislodged it with a coat rack from nearby. Suddenly, a naked body fell to the floor. Dean turned the body over with the end of the rack.
“Wait, Dean, wasn’t that?—”
“Yeah, I just let that guy in the vault.”
***
You and Dean hurried as inconspicuously as possible to inform Sam of what had just happened. Sam told you that man had been trying to get the front door unlocked and helping Mr. Okie-Dokie who may have been going into cardiac arrest when you and Dean found the body.
You turned to Ronald and his cocked rifle. “You know what, Ronald? He's right, we've got to get this man outside. Come on. I've got you.”
The shifter tried to help, too. “Yeah, yeah, let me help you.”
“Oh, we got him, it's, it's cool. Thanks,” you replied. You helped the guard out of the way, and Sam took the man’s other side.
“Thank you. Thank you,” the guard told you between labored breaths.
“Sure,” you smiled politely.
You could hear Dean talking to the shifter and a sudden crash behind you. You turned with the guard still on your shoulders at Ronald yelling, “Stop! Come back here!” You noticed a red laser pointed on his back, and your breath caught.
“Get down! Now!” you screamed, but you were too late.
The bullet from the sniper rifle hit Ronald squarely in the chest. You watched in horror as he fell to his knees before hitting the floor dead.
You took in a sharp breath at the sight, forcing yourself to keep your composure for the sake of everyone else in the room with you.
It was bedlam at that minute. All of the hostages began running out of the vault toward the door. You put Mr. Okie-Dokie on the ground next to you and just kept him talking until something could be done to help him. You weren’t quite sure what Sam or Dean were doing, but you made it your priority to keep this man from going into cardiac arrest.
Dean suddenly came over to you, holding a rifle.
“Dean, what are you doing?” you questioned.
“(Y/N), trust me on this—” he pleaded before helping the guard stand.
“Dean! I can help him, don’t bring him outside—”
“I’m not taking that chance, (Y/N). C’mon,” he told the guard. “I gotcha.” He held the man out in front of him and pushed him out the front door with the rifle at the guard’s back. You stayed out of the light, back pressed against the pillar next to the heavy door.
“No, don't shoot! Don't shoot! Please!” you heard the guard yell.
Dean commanded, “Don't even think about it! I said get back! Now!” He paused a moment before you heard his voice again. “Okay, go, go!” The older Winchester slipped back inside, shutting the door and latching it.
“We are so fucked,” he mumbled to you, helping you up from the floor.
“Fuck, why?”
He ran a hand through his hair. “There’s about, I don’t know, eight thousand cops out there. Helicopters and search lights and everything. We are fucked, (Y/N).”
You dropped your head back, groaning, “Great.”
Dean’s phone rang, and you assumed it was Sam. “Yeah?” he answered. “What?... God, it's like playing the shell game. It could be anybody. Again… Alright, you search every inch of this place, we’re gonna go round everybody up.” He hung up the phone.
“I think this is the most stressed I’ve been on a job,” you said as you and Dean began searching for the hostages.
“Yeah? Even more so than the demons in New York?”
“Oh, definitely. That was just a sad one; not super stressful,” you replied. You noticed a herd of people toward the end of the hall. You gripped the handle of your knife, knowing the shifter would likely be in the mix of all the hostages.
You and Dean rounded them up; Dean pointing the rifle he picked up from Ronald at the group. You guided them back to the vault.
“And I thought you were one of the good guys,” Sherry, who held up the back of the group, told Dean, who was trailing behind her.
“What's your name?” he asked.
“Why would you care?” she scoffed.
“My name's Dean,” he said. Your heart melted a bit at his gentleness with her.
She hesitated but still answered. “I'm Sherry.”
“Hi, Sherry. Everything's gonna be alright. This will all be over soon, okay?” He assured her, shutting the vault door and spinning the lock shut. The landline of the bank rang and you picked it up. You didn’t say anything when you answered the phone.
“This is Special Agent Victor Henriksen,” a commanding voice stated through the phone. “Is this Dean? Sam?”
You didn’t respond once more.
Dean mouthed to you, “Who is that?”
You shook your head, holding up a finger to gesture for him to wait.
“Oh, or is it that pretty girl? Our very own criminal Jane Doe. Some people have been calling her Ghost since no one can seem to find any record of her existence.”
Your breath hitched in your throat, but you still didn’t say anything.
“Well, whether you’ve got the Bonnie to your Clydes with you or not, it’s my job to bring you boys in. Alive's a bonus, but not necessary. I want you Winchesters out here, unarmed, or we come in.”
You still didn’t say anything.
“I know you’re still there,” he said, almost taunting. “I know everything about you two. I've been looking for you for weeks now. I know about the murder in St. Louis; I know about the Houdini act you pulled in Baltimore. I know about the desecrations and the thefts. I know about your dad.”
Dean was trying to get close to the phone, but you kept pushing him away because you knew he’d explode at the mention of his father.
“Ex-marine, raised his kids on the road,” the agent continued, “cheap motels, backwood cabins. Real paramilitary survivalist type. I just can't get a handle on what type of whacko he was. White supremacist, Timmy McVeigh, to-may-to, to-mah-to. You have one hour to make a decision, or we come through those doors fully automatic.” With that, he hung up the phone.
You slammed the phone down, cursing in frustration.
“What? Who was that?” Dean asked.
“The fucking FBI agent who’s been tailing us since Missouri,” you replied, beginning to pace anxiously. “He knows everything about you guys, man. Even about your dad. That’s why I didn’t let you talk to him; I knew you would’ve ripped his head off.”
“Damn right,” the man growled. “They have a positive ID on you yet?”
“No, actually,” you said. “Ironically, some of the feds labeled me ‘Ghost’ cause they can’t find anything on me. Which makes me even more nervous. Anyway, we’ve got an hour till they come in here and pump us full of lead,” you informed him.
“Fuck,” he muttered, running a hand through his hair.
Moments later, Sam appeared at the entrance of the vault room.
“Hey. We've got a bit of a problem outside,” Dean said.
Sam snorted. “We got a problem in here.”
“What?” you questioned.
Sam hushed his voice. “The girl that was gushing over Dean in the vault? It’s her,” he told you.
“Who, Sherry?” you questioned.
He nodded. “Just found her body.”
Barely needing to flick a glance at the boys, you unlocked the vault.
“Sherry? We're gonna let you go,” Dean called as the door swung open.
“What? Why me?” she questioned.
“Uh, as a show of good faith to the feds, come on,” he replied.
The woman hesitated. “Uh... I think I'd— I'd rather stay here, with the others.”
Dean approached her intimidatingly. “I'm afraid I'm going to have to insist.”
You clutched your blade at your side. After a tense moment, she approached you. Sam and Dean pushed her back to the hallway.
“I thought you were letting me go,” the woman you thought was the shifter said.
Dean shoved her forward, holding her head and forcing her to look at the body of Sherry Sam had brought back with him. She began screaming hysterically.
“Is that community theater, or are you just naturally that good?” Dean gruffly questioned.
“This is the last time you become anybody. Ever,” Sam added.
“No! Oh god!” she cried. She fainted almost immediately.
You stared at the two Sherrys in disbelief. One of the bodies was dressed, the other, half-naked. ‘Poor lady,’ you thought. You took off your blazer and laid it over the woman’s body, trying to spare her dignity.
“Wait, why did it do that?” you questioned. You leaned over the undressed body of Sherry covered only by your blazer and put your finger on her neck, trying to find a pulse. The body immediately jolted up, grabbing you by the throat. You struggled, stabbing at it frantically. You got a lick in at its upper arm with the knife before it kneed you in the chin and bolted.
You coughed when it released your throat, clutching at your neck and coughing.
“(Y/N)!” Dean cried.
“Dean, no, I’m fine! Follow it!”
He nodded, taking your knife from your outstretched hand and running after it. You kicked off your heels and took another moment before standing and going to follow Dean. Sam had taken off somewhere with the real Sherry.
You didn’t know what else to do besides stay with the vault and Dean’s discarded handgun, prowling in front of it with the gun at the ready.
***
You had no idea how long it had been. You just continued to pace in front of the vault, tension overtaking your body and anxiety keeping your eyes flickering across the room rapidly. You suddenly heard approaching footsteps and dove on the ground behind a desk— unsure if it was Dean, Sam, the shifter, a cop— and were panicked at the sight of S.W.A.T. sniper rifle lasers and flashlights on the wall in front of you. Your breath quickened as the footsteps continued approaching you. Then, a masked man ducked under the desk in front of you.
You shrieked.
“Here’s Johnny!” he yelped.
“Dean! Fuck you!” You shoved his shoulder harshly when you recognized his face. He and Sam were donned in S.W.A.T. outfits that they had definitely taken off some poor bastards hidden in a broom closet somewhere.
“C’mon, we gotta get outta here, now,” Dean told you. You grabbed your heels and followed the boys out of the building and to the Impala. Dean and Sam had their stolen guns at the ready as you sprinted up to the third floor of the parking garage.
The three of you sat in the Impala, completely breathless, as you grappled with the reality of your situation.
“We are so fucked,” Dean murmured.
You and Sam nodded minutely.
You looked out of the window at the rising morning sun. Exhausted, you let the rumble of the Impala soothe you into a restless sleep as Dean drove you away from the bank.

Literally Dean is SO impressed by how much Ronald manages to get RIGHT abt the shifter, even if Ron's wrong abt what the thing is, he literally finds all the patterns and pieces it all together in a very DEAN way. they think similarly!!! they pick up on the same details!!! In their first shifter case Dean is the one to figure out the shifter is using the sewers to hole up and move around and then in this ep Ronald suggests the "mandroid" is probably holed up underground.
Dean is ready to reward him for a job well-done by telling him the truth, letting him "in" and "throwing him a bone" since ronald is someone who could probably handle it, already believing in extraordinary things. And then.......Sam shoots down all of Ron's theories and basically makes Ron feel like he's crazy. Tells him nothing unusual is happening. And Ron is CRUSHED. And dean is equally crushed for him. like just look at the transcript:
DEAN nods, apparently impressed. SAM stares intently; they both stand. SAM Okay. I want you to listen very carefully. Because I'm about to tell you the God's honest truth about all of this. (Dean smiles, waiting to see what Sam says.) There's no such thing as Mandroids. There's nothing evil or inhuman going on out there. Just people. Nothing else, you understand? DEAN is mostly keeping a straight face, but is clearly startled. He starts to say something. RONALD (desperate) The laser eyes. SAM Just a camera flare, Mr. Resnick. See, I know you don't want to believe this. But your friend Juan robbed the bank and that's it. RONALD Get out of my house! Now!
Sam why are you such a buzzkill !! poor Ronald. HE WAS RIGHT !!!!!!!! and Sam just has to crush him. It's under the guise that it's "safer" to keep him in the dark but really by not telling him the truth and making him feel crazy it just spurred Ronald on to take matters into his own hands.
And it feels a little like Sam also is just, being a bit of a bully. Sam makes judgey faces at Ron and looks down on him the entire time he's explaining his theories, meanwhile Dean listens intently and is visibly impressed. Sam just sees a whacky conspiracy theorist "loser" while Dean sees a genuinely intelligent and perceptive person. Dean relates to Ron. They are both underdogs and whose intelligence is underrated. They see things other people don't see.
Sam then gets all huffy when Dean is a little cold with him in the following scene.
SAM (sitting down to watch the tape) What are you, pissed at me or something? DEAN Nah, I just think it's a little creepy how good of a Fed you are. I mean, come on, we could have at least thrown the guy a bone. He did some pretty good legwork here. SAM Mandroid? DEAN Except for the Mandroid part. I liked him. He's not that different from you or me. People think we're crazy.
Dean's like: He did good work. He was mostly right about the big things. He's not that different from us. We should've let him in.

Supernatural (Dean Winchester x Female!Reader)
Tumblr media
Nightshifter
Masterlist
*3rd Person POV*
An attractive young man, Frank who was also dressed in a dark suit, comes out of the back with some papers in heris hand. (Y/n) turns to face him as he speaks. "So what's it like, being an FBI woman?" Frank asked (y/n). "Well, it's dangerous. And the secrets we've gotta keep, oh God, the secrets. But mostly it's...it's lonely." (Y/n) replied, in a dramatic voice. "I so know what you mean." Frank said and she nods, sagely. "Yeah." She said.
Elsewhere in the store, Sam and Dean, also dressed in suits, are interrogating the manager, a middle aged man. Dean looked over his shoulder to see (y/n) flirting with Frank and he clenches his jaw. "Helena was our head buyer. She...she was family, you know? She said it herself, every year at the Christmas party. She said we were the only family she had." The manager said as Dean turns back to the man.
"So there were never any signs that she'd do something like this?" Sam asked him. "No. Still can't believe it, even now. That night, Helena came back to the store after closing. Cleaned out all the display cases, and the safe. Edgar — our night watchman — he caught her in the act. He didn't know what to do, he'd known her for years. He called me at home." The Manager said. "And that's when she took his gun?" Dean asked him "She shot him in the face. I heard him die. Over the phone." The manager said.
"Any idea what her motive could have been?" Sam asked him. "What motive? It makes no sense. Why steal all those diamonds, all that jewelry, and then what? Just dump it somewhere, just hide it, and then go home and..." the manager explains as Dean looks down then back over to (y/n) and Frank.
"She killed herself?" (Y/n) asked him. "Well, the cops said. She dropped the hair dryer in the bath and fried herself. They should know, right?" Frank said, questioning, and she nods. "Yeah. Well, thanks, Frank, I think that's all I need." (Y/n) said. "Really? Because I've got more. You know..." Frank said then he looks around, slyly. "If you wanted to interview me sometime. In private?" He asked her.
(Y/n) let's her eyes roam over Frank for a moment then goes to eyes the boys, guiltily, across the room and she could see Dean glaring at her before he turns back to the Manager. "Yeah. Yeah, I think that's a good idea. You're a true patriot, you really are. Why don't you write your number down there for me, that'd be good." She said as she turns back to Frank and places a piece of paper in front of him.
"So you never saw the security camera footage yourself, then?" Sam asked. "No. The police, they took all the tapes, first thing." The manager said as (y/n) approaches them. "Yeah, of course they did." Dean mutters as (y/n) waves Frank's number at the boys.
*(y/n)'s POV*
Leaving the jewelry store, the boys and I drive down a dark street and pull up in front of a small house. "Five -- this is it." Sam said. "Friggin' cops." Dean growls. "They're just doing their job, Dean." I said to him. "No, they're doing our job, only they don't know it, so they suck at it." Dean growls as we get out of the car then he turns to Sam.
"Talk to me about this bank." Dean said to Sam as we approach the house. "Uh, Milwaukee National Trust. It was hit about a month ago." Sam replied. "Same M.O. as the jewelry store?" I asked him. "Yep, inside job, longtime employee, the never-in-a-million-years type. Dude robs the bank, then goes home and supposedly commits suicide." Sam replied.
"The guy Resnick, he was the security guard on duty?" Dean asked. "Yeah. He was actually beaten unconscious by the teller who heisted the place." Sam said and I shake my head. "God." Dean and I muttered. "Yeah." Sam said as he knocks on the screen door.
"Mr. Resnick? Ronald Resnick?" Sam calls out then a bright floodlight turns on, and we shield our eyes. "Son of a --" Dean exclaims as a youngish man comes to the door, warily.  "FBI, Mr. Resnick." I said as he looks at us. "Let me see the badge." He said and the boys and I pull out our badges and slap them against the screen door in unison. Ronald squints at them carefully.
"I already gave my statement to the police." He said to us. "Yeah, listen Ronald, um...just some things about your statement we wanted to get some clarification on." Dean said to him. "You read it?" Ronald asked. "Sure did." I said.
"You come to listen to what I've got to say?" He asked us. "Well, that's why we're here." Dean said. "Well. Come on in." He said and he opens the door and leads us through a narrow hallway to a cluttered room; the walls were covered with alien photos and conspiracy theory paraphernalia.
"None of the cops ever called me back. Not after I told them what was really going on. Uh, they all thought I was crazy. First off, Juan Morales never robbed the Milwaukee National Trust, okay? That, I guarantee. See, we and Juan were friends. He used to come back to the bank on my night shifts, and we'd play cards." Ronald explains. "So you let him into the bank that night, after hours." Sam said, questioning.
"The thing I let into the bank...wasn't Juan. I mean, it had his face, but it wasn't his face. Uh, every detail was perfect, but too perfect, you know, like if a dollmaker made it, like I was talking to a big Juan-doll." Ronald said and I raise an eyebrow. "A Juan-doll?" I said, doubtful.
"Look. This wasn't the only time this happened. Okay?" Ronald said then he hands us a file folder. "There was this jewelry store, too. And the cops, a--and you guys, you just won't see it!" He said as Sam looks in the folder; it looked like a Hunter's profile of the jewelry case.
"Both crimes were pulled by the same thing." Ronald said. "What's that, Mr. Resnick?" I asked and Ronald picks up a copy of a magazine called Fortean Times and holds it to his chest. The headline at the bottom reads BIRTH OF THE CYBERMEN.
"Chinese've been working on 'em for years. And the Russians before that. Part men, part machine. Like the Terminator. But the kind that can change itself, make itself look like other people." He said and Dean smirks. "Like the one from T2." He said and Ronald nods, frantically. "Exactly! See, so not just a robot, more of a, a, a, a...Mandroid." he said. "A Mandroid?" I said, confused.
"And what makes you so sure about this, Ronald?" Dean asked him and Ronald holds up a finger, smiling a little wildly. Moments later, he inserts a VHS tape into a player while he explains. "See, I made copies of all the security tapes. I knew once the cops got them they'd be buried." He said and Dean and I nod.
"Here." He said as he fast-forwards. "Now watch. Watch. Watch him, watch, watch! See, look! Th-, th-, there it is!" Ronald said as he pauses the tape. "You see? He's got the laser eyes." He said and we stare at the video and see Juan, facing the camera, with a light-flare in his eyes. The boys and I share a knowing look.
"Cops said it was some kind of reflected light. Some kind of camera flare. Okay? Ain't no damn camera flare. They say I'm a post-trauma case. So what? Bank goes and fires me, it don't matter!" Ronald rants as Sam eyes him cautiously. "The Mandroid is, is still out there. The law won't hunt this thing down -- I'll do it myself. You see, this thing, it, it, it kills the real person, makes it look like a suicide, then it sorta, like, morphs into that person. Cases the job for a while until it knows the take is fat, and then it finds its opening. Now, these robberies, they're, they're grouped together." Ronald said and gestures at a map on the wall.
"So I figure the Mandroid is holed up somewhere in the middle, underground, maybe. I dunno, maybe that's where it recharges its, uh, Mandroid batteries." Ronald said as Dean nods, apparently impressed. I shrug while Sam stares intently then we stand.
"Okay. I want you to listen very carefully. Because I'm about to tell you the God's honest truth about all of this." Sam said as Dean and I smile, waiting to see what Sam says. "There's no such thing as Mandroids. There's nothing evil or inhuman going on out there. Just people. Nothing else, you understand?" Sam said and Dean and I keep a straight face but both of us glance at each other.
"The laser eyes." Ronald said, desperately. "Just a camera flare, Mr. Resnick. See, I know you don't want to believe this. But your friend Juan robbed the bank and that's it." Sam said to him. "Get out of my house! Now!" Ronald yells at us. "Sure. First things first." Sam said and Dean and I frown at Sam in further confusion.
"Man, that has got to be the kicker, straight up. I mean, you tell that poor son of a bitch that -- what did you say, remand the tapes that he copied? Classified evidence of an ongoing investigation?" Dean asked as we enter our motel room then Dean laughs. "That's messed up." He said as Sam sits down to watch the tape.
"What are you, pissed at me or something?" Sam asked Dean. "Nah, I just think it's a little creepy how good of a Fed you are. I mean, come on, we could have at least thrown the guy a bone. He did some pretty good legwork here." Dean said and I give him a look
"Mandroid?" I reminded him. "Except for the Mandroid part. I liked him. He's not that different from us. People think we're crazy." Dean said. "Yeah, except he's not a hunter, Dean. He's just a guy who stumbled onto something real. If he were to go up against this thing he'd get torn apart. Better to stay in the dark, and stay alive." Sam said. "Yeah, I guess." Dean said and he places tracing paper over the map and starts marking it with a red pen as Sam pauses the tape on the flaring eyes.
"Shapeshifter. Just like back in St. Louis. Same retinal reaction to video." I said to them. "Eyes flare at the camera. I hate those friggin' things." Dean grumbles. "You think we don't?" Sam asked him. "Yeah, well, one didn't turn into you and frame you for murder." Dean said as he traces a pattern on paper of the sewer system.
"Well, look. If this shifter's anything like the one we killed in Missouri..." I said, thinking. "Then Ronald was right. All right, they like to layer up underground, preferably the sewer. And all the robberies have been connected so far, right?" Dean said. "Yeah." Sam and I said, in unison. "With the, uh, sewer main layout. There's one more bank lined up on that same sewer main." Dean said.
Later that evening, a security guard leads me and the boys, now uniformed as Securiserve Guard Service technicians, down the main hall. "Well, we haven't had any flags go up on our system yet." The guard said. "No, this is a glitch in the overall grid. We just want to make sure the branch monitors are kosher." Dean said to him. "Well, better to be safe than sorry, I guess." The guard said.
"That's the plan." I said as we go to the observation room, which had several TV screens showing security footage.  "All righty. You guys need anything else?" The guard asked us. "Oh, no, no, we'll be, uh, we'll be in and out before you know it, just a routine check." Sam said to him. "Okie-dokie." The guard said and he leaves.
"I like him. He says Okie-dokie." Dean said and I snort at this. "Didn't know you were so easily amused." I said and he shrugs. "What if he's the shifter?" Sam asked Dean. "Well, then we follow him home, put a silver bullet through his chestplate." Dean replied and we sit down to watch the screens. "Okay. Well, you guys got any popcorn?" Dean asks us and I smirk and shake my head.
What felt like hours later, we were still reviewing the screens and see the old guard that lead us here was on one. Luckily, his eyes are normal. "Well, it looks like mister okie-dokie is...okie-dokie." Dean said and Sam sighs. "Maybe we jumped the gun on this, guys. I mean, we don't even know it's here." Sam said as I watch the cameras.
"Maybe we should just go back to the sewers and...and..." Sam said as I noticed something in one of the cameras. "Wait a minute." I said as I point out a middle-aged man turning towards the camera; his eyes flare.
"Hello, freak." I greet and Sam smiles. "Got him." Sam said and he gets up but then I looked back at the camera and my smile falters. "Sam!" I said. "What?" Sam asked and I point at another camera.
We see Ronald scurriying up to the outer door with a chain and a padlock, chaining the door shut. "Hello Ronald." Dean said and we start to walk out of the room then we hear some gunshots. "Oh crap." I muttered as we walk down a hallway towards the main hall; a few panicked people brush past us, running the other way.
"And you said we shouldn't bring guns." Dean grumbles at Sam. "I didn't know this was gonna happen, Dean." Sam said, annoyed. "Just let me and (y/n) do the talking. I don't think he likes you very much, Agent Johnson." Dean said and we walk, cautiously, to the lobby as Ronald holds up a key.
"Now, there's only one way in or out of here, and I chained it up. So nobody's leaving, do you understand?" He yells as we walk up. "Hey, buddy. Calm down. Just calm down." Dean said and Ronald turns to us, startled. "What the- You! Get on the floor, now." He yells at us. "Okay, we're doing that. Just don't shoot anybody, especially us." I said to him as we kneel to the floor.
"I knew it. As soon as you three left. You ain't FBI. Who are you? Who are you working for, huh? The men in black? You working for the Mandroid?" Ronald asked us, panicked. "We're not working for the Mandroid!" Sam yells and Ronald turns to him. "You, shut up! I ain't talking to you. I don't like you." He growled and Dean gives Sam an I told you so look.
"Fair enough." Sam mutters as Ronald turns to one of the hostage that were huddled together at the other side of the room. "Get on 'em. Frisk them down, make sure they got no weapons on them. Go!" Ronald ordered and a middle-aged black man comes over to us and frisks us and finds a knife in Dean's boot.
"Now what have we here?" Ronald asked and Sam glares at Dean. "I'm not just gonna walk in here naked!" Dean exclaims as Ronald takes the knife. "Get back there." He said and he drops the knife in the deposit box. "No, no, no, no, no!" Dean winces and I turn to Ronald.
"We know you don't want to hurt anybody. That's exactly what's gonna happen if you keep waving that cannon around, and why don't you let these people go?" I said. "No! I already told you. If nobody's gonna stop this thing, then I've got to do it myself." Ronald exclaims.
"Hey, we believe you! That's why we're here." Dean said. "You don't believe me. Nobody believes me! How could they?" Ronald asked. "Come here." I said to him. "What? No." Ronald said. "You're holding the gun, boss, you're calling the shots. I just want to tell you something. Come here." I said to him and Ronald approaches cautiously and leans in.
"It's the bank manager." I said to him, quietly. "What?" Ronald asked. "Why do you think we've got these getups, huh? We've been monitoring the cameras in the back. We saw the bank manager. We saw his eyes." Dean said, quietly.
"His laser eyes?" Ronald asked. "Yes. No. No!" Dean and I said at the same time before I let out a sigh. "No, look, we're running out of time, okay? We've got to find him before he changes into someone else." I said to him. "Like I'm gonna listen to you. You're a damn liar." Ronald spat and Dean and I exchange a look before both of us stand up, cautiously, both of our hands out.
"I'll shoot both of you! Get down!" Ronald yelled at us. "Take us. Okay? Take us with you, take us as a hostage. But we've gotta act fast. Because the longer we just sit here the more time he has to change." Dean said but Ronald still doesn't move and aims his gun at us.
"Look at us, man. We believe you. You're not crazy. There really is something inside this bank." I said to him, calmly. "All right. You two come with me. But everyone else gets in the vault!" Ronald said a d there were gasps and cries from the other hostages.
Moments later, he ushers the hostages, including Sam, into the vault. "Come on, move, move! Move, move!" He yells then he turns to Dea . "And you lock it up." He ordered and Dean starts moving the heavy door shut. "It's okay, everyone. Just stay cool." I assured them and I shrug at Sam in apology. Sam swallows, unhappily, just as Dean slams the door shut.
Ronald then precedes me and Dean into a series of offices after we removed our uniform jacket to reveal our normal clothes. "Check behind the desk." Dean sid and we start checking the back room until Ronald yells.
We come back out to see him lying on the floor next to a slimy pile of skin. He screams and stands, pointing his gun at it. "What the hell is that?" Ronald asked, frantically, as Dean turns a lamp on. "Oh, great." Dean mutters and I pinch the bridge of my nose in annoyance.
"When it changes form, it sheds its old skin. So, now it could be anybody." I said as I turn to Ronald, who picks up a piece of skin and smelling it. "It's so, so weird. Its robot skin is so lifelike." He said. "Okay, let's get something straight. It's, it's not a Mandroid. It's a shapeshifter." Dean admits and Ronald looks up at us.
"Shapeshifter?" He said, shocked. "Yeah. It's human, more or less. Has human drives -- and in this case it's money. But it generates its own skin, it can shape it to match someone else's features, you know, taller, shorter, male..." I explained. "So it, it, it kills someone and then takes their place." Ronald said, questioning.
"Kills them, doesn't kill them, we don't think it really matters." Dean said as I look through the desk. "What are you doing?" Ronald asked me and I pick up a couple of letter openers and examine it.
"Nice." I sighed, relieved, then I hand one to Dean before I turn to Ron. "You remember the old werewolf stories? Pretty much came from these guys. Silver's the only thing I've seen that hurts them." I said and Dean and I strides out towards the door. "Come on, Ronald." Dean said as Ronald grimaces at the skin, then follows us, grinning.
Minutes later, we were walking down a wider hallway while Ronald was still chuckling. "What are you, nuts?" Dean asked him. "That's just it. I'm not nuts. I mean, I was so scared that I was losing my marbles. But this is real! I mean, I, I, I was right! Except for the Mandroid thing. Thank you." He exclaimed, happily. "Yeah, don't mention it." I said as we continue on.
Suddenly, the power cuts out and a few emergency lights click on. "Dammit! No, no, no, no, no, no." Dean growls as I look around. "Son of a bitch!" I muttered.
"What? What is it?" Ronald asked. "They cut the power. Probably their way of saying hi." Dean said. "Who?" Ronald asked. "The cops." Dean and I said, in unison.
"The cops?!" Ronald exclaimed in fear. "Well, you weren't exactly a smooth criminal about this, Ron. I mean, you didn't even secure the security guard. He probably called them." Dean said. "Well, I, I didn't, I didn't think t --" Ronald stammers as we stop walking.
"All right, hang on, hang on, let's just take a breath here for a second, all right? They — they've probably got us surrounded. They've cut the power to the cameras so there's no way of telling who the shapeshifter is." Dean said and we take a breath. "It's not looking good, Ron." I said then Ronald flinches at a noise, bringing the rifle up.
"Did you hear that?" Dean asked us as we looked around.
Turned out that the noise was from more people that were hiding in a closet. We helped them out and brought them back to the vault. Dean opens the door and one of the hostages, a red-haired woman, smiles at us.
"Oh my God, you saved us! You saved us!" She exclaims. "Actually, we just found a few more. Come on, everybody, let's go. Let's go." Dean said and we helped some people in the vault.
"What are you doing?" The woman asked as I look over at Sam. "Sam, look, uh, Ronald. Dean and I need to talk to you." I said and Sam leaves the vault and Dean shuts the door behind him, shrugging apologetically.
"It's shed its skin again. We don't know when - it could be in the halls, it could be in the vault." Dean explained to Sam. "Great. You know, Dean, you are wanted by the police." Sam said, annoyed. "Yeah." Dean mutters. "So even if we do find this damn thing -- how the hell are we gonna get out of here?" Sam asked.
"Well, one problem at a time." I said as I begin to pace. "All right, Dean and I are gonna do a sweep of the whole place, see if we can find any stragglers. Once we get everyone together we've got to play a little game of find-the-freak, so...here." I said as I hand him another silver letter opener.
"Found another one of these for you." I said as he takes it. "Now stay here, make sure Ronald doesn't hurt anybody, okay? Help him manage the situation." Dean said. "Help him manage? Are you insane?" Sam asked, his voice rising in anger.
Alerted by Sam's raised voice, Ronald looks over. Dean and I look past Sam and give Ronald a grinning thumbs-up. "Look, I know this isn't going the way we wanted..." Dean said. "Understatement!" Sam shouts. "But if we invite the cops in right now, Ronald gets arrested, we get arrested, the shifter gets away, probably never find it again, okay?" I said and we noticed that Ronald was peering out the window, in plain view, and Sam gestures at him in exasperation.
"Ron! Out of the light!" Dean yells and Ronald moves. "Seriously?!" Sam exclaims. "Yeah, Ron's game plan was a bad plan, I mean, it was a bit of a crazy plan, but right now crazy's the only game in town, okay?" Dean said and he slaps Sam's on the shoulder and we leave.
Dean and I creep along the dark hallways with a flashlight, listening for sounds and watching for movement. Then we stop and look up, seeing a ceiling panel askew. I pick up a coat rack and begin poking it. Then I dislodge it and a naked body falls to the floor. We turn it over and I recognized it as one of the hostages in the vault, his throat had been slit.
"Both of you stay where you are." Ronald yells at the hostages, cocking his rifle. Sam turns to us and we explain to him, in a whisper, of what we found. Then Sam goes back to the vault. "You know what, Ronald? He's right, we've got to get this man outside. Come on. I've got you." Sam said and he takes the guard from the man, that we know is the shapeshifter.
"Yeah, yeah, let me help you." The shapeshifter said but Sma shakes his head. "Oh, I got him, it's, it's cool. Thanks." Sam said and he gets the guard out of the way. Dean and I glare at the Shapeshifter and approach the vault.
"Thank you. Thank you." The guard said to Sam. "Sure." Sam said as he leads him out. "Hey, can we talk to you for a second?" Dean asked the shapeshifter as he pulls out a handgun, that he got from the guard earlier. "You got the gun, man. I mean, whatever." The shapeshifter said.
As he gets close enough, he attacks Dean, knocking him to the ground and I get in front of him and start to fight him but he knocks me to the side and starts running into the dark of the hallways. Dean comes over to me and helps me up and we chase after him.
"Stop! Come back here!" Ronald said and I hear hin running after us. "Get down! Now!" I hear Sam shout and Dean and I turn to see a laser pointed at Ronald's back. "Ronald!" I shouted then his body jerks forward then he falls.
Dean and I duck behind a low wall, and we watch, in horror, as Ronald slumps to his knees, then to the floor, dead.
The hostages run out of the vault as Dean and I crawl behind another low wall nearer where Ronald fell. Sam ducks down beside us, all three of us panting. Sam pulls out the key and hands it to Dean. "Here. Take care of the guard. (Y/n) and I we going after the shifter." Sam said and he runs off while I give a sympathetic look towards Ronald then chase after Sam.
Sam and I approach a broom closet and open it suddenly but it's empty. We hear something behind us and turned around to see the red-head woman and the other hostages behind us. "Please don't hurt us!" She pleads. "You shouldn't be back here right now! You're in danger! Now go back to the vault. Now!" Sam said and they run back.
After hearding the hostages back, Sam and I make our way back to look, only to fknd another shed skin. We sighed at this then I call Dean. "Yeah?" Dean answered. "Slipped his skin." I said. "What?" Dean exclaims. "Yeah, bastard shifts fast. A lot faster than the one in St. Louis." I said, annoyed. "God, it's like playing the shell game. It could be anybody. Again." Dean said.
"Yeah, I think most of the employees are out of the vault by now." I said. "All right, you two search every inch of this place, I'm gonna go round everybody up." Dean said and he hangs up while Sam and I continue to search.
*3rd Person POV*
Dean herds the hostages back into the vault just as the red-haired woman turns to him. "And I thought you were one of the good guys." She said, angry. "What's your name?" Dean asked her. "Why would you care?" She growls.
"My name's Dean." He introduced. "I'm Sherry." She said. "Hi, Sherry. Everything's gonna be all right. This will all be over soon, okay?" He assures her then he shuts the vault door and spins the lock as the landline rings. He sets down his handgun and answers it.
"Yeah?" He said. "This is Special Agent Victor Henriksen." The voice at the other end said. "Yeah, listen, I'm not really in the negotiating mood right now, so ––" Dean started to say but Henriksen interrupts him. "Good. Me neither. It's my job to bring you in. Alive's a bonus but not necessary."
"Whoa. Kinda harsh for a Federal Agent, don't you think?" Dean asked him. 'Well, you're not the typical suspect, are you, Dean?" Henriksen asked and Dean looks up, horrified. "I want you, Sam and (y/n) out here, unarmed. Or we come in. And yes, I know about Sam and (y/n) too." Henriksen said.
"How'd you even know we were here?" Dean asked. "Go screw yourself, that's how I knew. It's become my job to know about you, Dean. I've been looking for you for weeks now. I know about the murder in St. Louis, I know about the Houdini act you pulled in Baltimore. I know about the desecrations and the thefts. I know about your dad." Henriksen said and Dean clenches his jaw.
"Hey, you don't know crap about my dad." Dean replied, darkly. "Ex-marine, raised his kids on the road, cheap motels, backwood cabins. Real paramilitary survivalist type. I just can't get a handle on what type of whacko he was. White supremacist, Timmy McVeigh, to-may-to, to-mah-to." Henriksen said. "You got no right talking about my dad like that. He was a hero." Dean growls.
"Yeah. Right. Sure sounds like it. You have one hour to make a decision or we come through those doors full automatic." Henriksen said and he hangs up the phone. Dean then pounds his forehead in frustration as he hangs up the phone.
Meanwhile, Sam and (y/n) see blood on the floor in front of a closet. Sam opens it quickly, and the half-dressed body of Sherry falls out, her throat is slit. "Dammit." Sam growls as (y/n) punched the wall.
*(y/n)'s POV*
Sam and I make our way back to the vault room, where Dean is waiting. "Hey. We've got a bit of a problem outside." Dean said. "We got a problem in here." I said as I gesture towards the vault and Sam and I tell him what we found.
Moments later, Dean open the vault and the hostages flinch and look around. "Sherry? We're gonna let you go." Dean said to the red-haired lady. "What? Why me?" She asked. "Uh, as a show of good faith to the feds, come on." I replied as she looks between us.
"Uh...I think I'd, I'd rather stay here, with the others." She said and Dean approaches her. "I'm afraid I'm going to have to insist." He said and she looks at us warily.
After a long pause, she approaches us and we shut the vault and push her back to the hallway. "I thought you were letting me go." She said and Dean shoves her forward, holding her head and forcing her to look at the body. She begins screaming hysterically.
"Is that community theater, or are you just naturally that good?" I asked her as she continues to scream. "This is the last time you become anybody. Ever." Sam said. "No! Oh God! Ohhhh...." she cries then she faints.
Then boys and I stare at her, baffled, then back at the other body. Dean removes a rifle from his shoulder and kneels over Sherry. He raises the blade with a shrug, but Sam puts out a hand to stop him. "Dean, wait, wait, wait. What's the advantage of this plan? I mean, fainting now wouldn't help it survive." Sam said then Dean looks back at the other body.
Dean kneels over the other body, then looks up just as he hears a noise, we look up as well. Then we look back at the body, just as it grabs Dean by the throat. As he struggles and stabs at it, Sherry starts to wake up then screams again. Sam and I go over to her as Dean looks over at us. "Get her outta here! Now!" Dean yells and continues struggling with the shapeshifter while Sam, Sherry and I leave.
As we run, we hear the cops coming in and we left Sherry in the corner of the hall then head down the hallway. "Freeze! Let me see your hands." A voice commanded just as we see lights. Sam and I stop then we share a look and nod, slightly. We turn abruptly and take out three armored policemen then we take their clothes and armor and stuff their bodies in a closet.
Sam and I, quickly, put on the armor then carry the extra armor for Dean and began to look for him. Finally we find him standing over the shapeshifter's dead body and we shine our flashlight on him. He looks up at us, panting, and we smiled then handed him the armor to him.
Sometime later, the three of us, in S.W.A.T. armor with weapons, exited the bank and began running up stairs on the outside of a buildlng. We exit the stairs and turn into the deck of a parking garage, walking to the Impala. We get into the car and pull off our masks, panting, and sit in silence for a moment.
"We are so screwed." Dean mutters and Sam nods minutely. "Yeah, big time." I said. Dean starts the car then we pull out of the parking garage.

Summary: Ivonne Rainer was practically a trained killing machine. Stripped to the bone then built back up by her father in order to become one of the best, like he was. She was forced into hunting when she was nineteen, having developed powers that couldn’t be explained. That is, until she was paid a visit by Azazel’s lackey. Her powers were gone, she needed help, and that’s when she found her father’s journal. Pointing to Sam and Dean Winchester.
SERIES MASTERLIST
NIGHTSHIFTER
“Hey there, FBI agent Anna Drewe.” I flashed by badge to a man working at a counter. “I just want to ask a few questions about the incident.”
“Shoot.” He smiled.
“Alright, your name is Logan Turner, yes?” I raised an eyebrow, holding Carl loosely as he jotted everything down.
“Yep.”
“Tell me about Helen.”
“She was like family.” Logan frowned. “The lady said it herself. We were the only family she had. Then Larry, our manager, gets a call sayin’ that Helen’s emptying everything out and then you hear a gunshot. Few days later, she kills herself.”
“Alright, thanks, Mr Turner.” I smiled, storing Carl in my pocket. “Thank you for your cooperation.”
”Would you, uh, want to, maybe… go out sometime?”
“Sorry, sir, but I don’t mix business with pleasure.” Then I heard Dean flirting with the receptionist. I gritted my teeth, taking a deep breath. “And neither should my partner.” I walked over to Dean, covering the paper which he was handing to Frannie the receptionist. “Keep it strictly business, Agent.”
“That-That’s right, partner.” Dean nodded, and sent a longing look to Frannie before walking with me. Frannie sent me a dirty look, but I ignored it.
“We’re here to string the bank robberies together, not score a night with a receptionist.”
“Why can’t I live a little?”
“Cause take off that suit and remove your badge and to her, you’re just another ordinary Joe.”
“Am I an ordinary Joe to you, Beanie?”
“Course not. To me, you’re sexy.”
“Wait, really?”
“No.”
Tumblr media
We pulled up in front of a  small house, which was the residence of Ronald Resnick, the security guard that worked one of the cases.
“Five -- this is it.” Sam nodded.
“Friggin’ cops.” Dean grimaced.
“They’re doing their job, Dean.” I sighed.
“No, they're doing our job, only they don't know it, so they suck at it. Talk to me about this bank.”
“Milwaukee National Trust. It was hit about a month ago.“
“Same M.O?”
“Yep, inside job, longtime employee, the never-in-a-million-years type.” Sam added. “Dude robs the bank, then goes home and supposedly commits suicide.”
“I’ve been having Carl make a pattern.” I smiled.
“This guy, Resnick,” Dean frowned, “he was the security guard on duty?”
“Yeah. Beaten unconscious by the teller who heisted the place.”
“God.” We knocked on Ronald’s door.
“Mr. Resnick? Ronald Resnick?” Sam called, and then a bright floodlight blinded us temporarily. Then Ronald came to the door.
“FBI, Mr. Resnick.”  I smiled, but he looked apprehensive.
“Show me ID.” Ronald demanded, so we took out our IDs and put them on the screen door at the same time. Ronald peered at them, then we retracted them. “I’ve already given my statement to the police.”
“Yeah, listen Ronald,” Dean cleared his throat, “just some things about your statement we wanted to get some clarification on.”
“You read it?”
“Sure did.”
“You’ve come to listen to what I've got to say?”
“That’s why we’re here.”
“Well, come on in.” We entered, and he led us to a cluttered room with stuff about ghosts and androids. “None of the cops ever called me back. Not after I told them what was really going on. Uh, they all thought I was crazy. First off, Juan Morales never robbed the Milwaukee National Trust, okay? That, I guarantee. See, we and Juan were friends. He used to come back to the bank on my night shifts, and we'd play cards.”
“So you let him into the bank that night, after hours.” Sam frowned.
“The thing I let into the bank . . . wasn't Juan. I mean, it had his face, but it wasn't his face. Uh, every detail was perfect, but too perfect, you know, like if a dollmaker made it, like I was talking to a big Juan-doll.”
“A Juan-doll?”
“Look. This wasn't the only time this happened. Okay?” He handed me a folder, and I flicked through it. Dude could be a hunter if he wanted to, cause he’s followed this thing closely. “There was this jewelry store, too. And the cops, a--and you guys, you just won't see it! Both crimes were pulled by the same thing.”
“And what’s that, Mr Resnick?” I asked, looking up from the folder. He held up a magazine called the ‘Fortean Times’, with the headline ‘BIRTH OF THE CYBERMEN’.
“Chinese've been working on 'em for years. And the Russians before that. Part men, part machine. Like the Terminator. But the kind that can change itself, make itself look like other people.”
“Like the one from T2.” Dean smirked.
“Exactly! See, so not just a robot, more of a-a-a-a ... mandroid.”
“A mandroid?” Sam blinked.
“And what makes you so sure about this, Ronald?” Dean challenged. Ronald held up a finger, then played a security tape.
“See, I made copies of all the security tapes. I knew once the cops got them they'd be buried. Here.” He fast forwarded it. “Now watch. Watch. Watch him, watch, watch! See, look! Th-th-there it is!” He paused it just as Juan turned to the camera, a flare in his eyes. Shapeshifter’s eyes flare when they face a camera. “You see? He's got the laser eyes.” Dean, Sam and I shared a look. “Cops said it was some kind of reflected light. Some kind of "camera flare". Okay? Ain't no damn camera flare. They say I'm a post-trauma case. So what? Bank goes and fires me, it don't matter! The mandroid is-is still out there. The law won't hunt this thing down- I'll do it myself. You see, this thing, it, it, it kills the real person, makes it look like a suicide, then it sorta, like, morphs into that person. Cases the job for a while until it knows the take is fat, and then it finds its opening. Now, these robberies, they're, they're grouped together. So I figure the mandroid is holed up somewhere in the middle, underground, maybe. I dunno, maybe that's where it recharges its, uh, mandroid batteries.“
We stood up, and Sam stepped forward. “Okay. I want you to listen very carefully. Because I'm about to tell you the God's honest truth about all of this.” Sam sighed. “There's no such thing as mandroids. There's nothing evil or inhuman going on out there. Just people. Nothing else, you understand?” THE HELL-
“The laser eyes-“
“Just a camera flare, Mr. Resnick. See, I know you don't want to believe this. But your friend Juan robbed the bank and that's it.”
“Get out of my house! Now!”
“Sure, sir. First things first.”
Tumblr media
We were at my safe house in Milwaukee, and I unlocked the door, and once we got inside, I rounded on Sam. “Classified evidence of an ongoing case?” I scoffed, hanging up my jacket and taking off my heels. “Just people? Dude, you just crushed Resnick’s resolve.”
“What are you, pissed at me or something?”
“You’re a good actor, Sam.” I sighed. “But you’re not meant to be that good. His file was legit, it was the level of the work we’ve been doing. We could at least appraise him for his work.”
“Yeah, except he's not a hunter. He's just a guy who stumbled onto something real. If he were to go up against this thing he'd get torn apart. Better to stay in the dark, and stay alive.”
“You don’t have to do him like that, though.” I ran a hand through my hair. “Instant noodles, anyone?”
“Anytime.” Dean grinned.
“I’m gonna change first, though.” I went upstairs, and Carl sprang out of the jacket, joining Sam at the table and writing something.
She was jealous earlier.
“Jealous of Frannie?” Dean scoffed. “Please.”
“Girls have emotions.” Sam shrugged. “She seemed kind of worked up, though, when she dragged you away from that receptionist.”
“Shut up.”
Tumblr media
We were all eating instant noodles, and I drew on our map.
“Shapeshifter. Just like back in St. Louis.” I confirmed. “Same retinal reaction to video.”
“Eyes flare at the camera. I hate those friggin' things.” Dean grumped.
“You think we don’t?” Sam scoffed.
“One didn’t turn into you and frame you for murder.”
“Yeah, but they’re damn hard to catch.” I frowned. “This is gonna be difficult, especially if it’s like the one you guys wasted in Missouri.”
“Then Ronald was right. All right, they like to layer up underground, preferably the sewer. And all the robberies have been connected so far, right?”
“Yeah.” Sam nodded.
“I see where you’re going.” I deduced then Carl circled a bank. “There’s one more on that sewer main. So if it’s the next target, this shifter isn’t gonna wait a bit. We need to hit this bank as soon as possible. However, it could risk both of you getting exposed.”
“It’s worth the risk.” Dean nodded, then shovelled noodles into his mouth.
“Carl, can you draw me up a layout of that bank?” I asked, then Carl started sketching out the bank blueprints.
“We need to load up.” Sam resolved. “Cause then Milwaukee PD could show up and if they get wind we’re here, the Feds.”
Tumblr media
I was wearing a black jumpsuit, wearing a brunette wig in a ponytail as I posed as a wealthy customer. Dean kept on giving me once-overs, and had whistled when he first saw me. I walked over to the receptionist, adopting a British accent. “Selene Windsor.”
“Right, I had the note that you were coming.” She nodded. “Right this way, ma’am.” I was led down the same path as Dean and Sam, talking in a haughty manner.
“If I’m to entrust my money here, I need to know that it’s secure. It doesn’t seem that way if technicians are having to come down.” I hugged.
“Just a general software bug, ma’am.” Dean smirked, his eyes flicking down my body for the fiftieth time.
“So I can’t trust my money to this bank.” I retorted. “I want to check this system myself.”
“Yes, ma’am.” The receptionist guided me to the room which Sam and Dean were going to, then ran away.
“All righty. You guys need anything else?” The guard asked.
“Oh, no, no, we'll be, uh, we'll be in and out before you know it, just a routine check.” Sam excused.
“Okie-dokie.” He left, and I sighed in relief, taking off my wig and releasing my hair from its bun.
“I like him. He says ‘Okie-dokie.’” Dean snorted, wheeling to face me.
“But what if he’s the shifter?” I asked, running my fingers through my hair.
“Well, then we follow him home, put a silver bullet through his chestplate.” I walked over to him, reaching behind me.
“Can you undo my zip?”
“W-What?”
“Just do it!” He unzipped my jumpsuit, and it fell to the floor, revealing a black crop top and blue shorts underneath, and I changed my shoes to running boots. Dean breathed a sigh of relief, making me laugh. “You didn’t think I’d publicly ask you to undress me? Keep dreaming.” I sat down, wheeling up on a chair.
“Okay. Well, you got any popcorn in that purse?” I pulled it out of my purse (yes, it also has the extension spell), handing it to him. “Thanks.” We watched the screens for a while, but we found no camera flare on the guard’s eyes.
”Maybe he just loves his job.” I shrugged. “Cause Mr Okie-Dokie is, well, okie-dokie.”
“Maybe we jumped the gun on this.” Sam fretted. “I mean, we don't even know it's here. Maybe we should just go back to the sewers and… and-“ I rolled up a piece of paper, slapping Dean on the head with it.
“Dean, focus. We’re meant to be looking for the shifter.”
“I'm getting there.” Dean retorted.
“Oh, really?”
“Wait.” A middle aged man turned to the camera, and his eyes flared. We turned to each other, nodding. “Hello, freak.”
”Got him.” Sam whispered before bolting to the door, but I spotted something else.
“Sam!” I called, zooming in on that screen.
“Yeah?”
“Look.” Ronald was locking and bolting the door shut, holding an assault rifle. “Sweet cheese. It’s Ronald.”
“And you said we shouldn't bring guns.” Dean groaned.
“I didn’t know this was gonna happen, Dean.” Sam grimaced.
“Speak for yourselves.” I smirked, taking my gun out of my ankle holster. They stared at the gun, dumbfounded. “Yeah, I come prepared. Even if you tell me no. Just let me do the talking. I don't think he likes you very much, Agent Johnson.“ I hid my gun in my purse as we found Ronald.
“Now, there's only one way in or out of here, and I chained it up.” Ronald yelled. “So nobody's leaving, do you understand?”
“Hey, buddy. Calm down. Just calm down.” Dean tried to bargain as we entered.
“What the- you! Get on the floor, now.”
“Okay, we're doing that. Just don't shoot anybody, especially us.”
“I knew it. As soon as you two left. You ain't FBI. Who are you? Who are you working for, huh? The men in black? You working for the mandroid?”
“We’re not working for the mandroid!” Sam burst out.
“You, shut up! I ain't talking to you. I don't like you.”
“Told you so.” I whispered, then put my hands up.
“Fair enough.” Sam grumbled.
“Get on 'em.” Ronald ordered a middle-aged man. “Frisk them down, make sure they got no weapons on them. Go!” I was frisked down, but they found nothing. Then they frisked Dean, but they found a knife in his boot.
“Dean!” I hissed. That obvious?
“I wasn’t gonna walk in naked!” Dean replied quietly. “You’re one to talk.”
“Hey, hey, Ronald, listen to me.” I spoke up, my hands up as I cautiously approached him. “We know you don't want to hurt anybody. That's exactly what's gonna happen if you keep waving that rifle around, and why don't you let these people go?”
“No! I already told you. If nobody's gonna stop this thing, then I've got to do it myself.”
“Why do you think we’re here? We believe you.”
“You don't believe me. Nobody believes me! How could they?”
“Tell you what, c’mere.”
“What?! No!”
“You have the gun.” Well, that wasn’t true. “You’re the boss here, and I can’t do squat. Just trust me.” Ronald then approached me, and I lowered my voice. “It’s the manager. Why do you think we've got these getups, huh? We've been monitoring the cameras in the back. We saw the bank manager. We saw his eyes.”
“His laser eyes?”
“Whatever you wanna call ‘em, but we did.” I nodded. “But we’re running out of time. We need to get him before he changes into someone else.”
“Like I'm gonna listen to you. You're a damn liar.”
“Doesn’t mean I ain’t a truther. And my partner told you that lie, not me. If you don’t trust me, hold a gun on me and take me hostage. But we've gotta act fast. Because the longer we just sit here the more time he has to change. Look at me, man. I believe you. You're not crazy. There really is something inside this bank.” I paused, “Do I look like someone who’d lie to you?”
“All right. You come with me. But everyone else gets in the vault!”
“Check behind the desk.” I ordered as I went into a back room. Then I heard a yell, and I instantly rushed out. Ronald had fallen, and was lying next to a pile of shed skin. He screamed, standing up and pointing his gun at it.
“What the hell is that?” He squealed.
“Great.” I grimaced, turning on a lamp. “It sheds its skin when it changes. So now, it could be anybody.”
“It's so, so weird. Its robot skin is so lifelike.”
“Alright, Ronald, let me get this straight.” I huffed. “It's not an mandroid. It's a shapeshifter.“
“Shapeshifter?“
”Yeah. I mean, it's human, more or less. Has human drives- and in this case it's money. But it generates its own skin, it can shape it to match someone else's features, you know, taller, shorter, male, etcetera.”
“So it-it-it kills someone and then takes their place.”
“Kills them, doesn't kill them, I don't think it really matters.” I shrugged, rummaging in my purse.
“What are you doing?” I pulled out my gun, replacing it with silver bullets. “You had that the whole time?!”
“Want me to be honest?”
“Yeah!”
“Yes, I did.” I stored the other cartridge, turning to him. “You remember the old werewolf stories? Pretty much came from these guys. Silver's the only thing I've seen that hurts them.” I started walking, then stopped. “C’mon, Ronald.” We walked down a hallway, and I heard Ronald started chuckling. “What are you, nuts?”
“That's just it. I'm not nuts.” He laughed. “I mean, I was so scared that I was losing my marbles. But this is real! I mean, I, I, I was right! Except for the mandroid thing. Thank you.”
“Don’t mention it.” Then the power went out, and I cursed. “Damn it. Not now, not now!”
“What is it?”
“They cut the power. Probably their way of saying hi.”
“Who?”
“The cops.”
“THE COPS?!”
“What did you think would happen?” I hissed. “Well, you weren't exactly a smooth criminal about this, Ron. I mean, you didn't even secure the security guard. He probably called them.”
“I-I didn’t think I-“
“All right, hang on, hang on, let's just take a breath here for a second, all right? They — they've probably got us surrounded. They've cut the power to the cameras so there's no way of telling who the shapeshifter is. So I’m gonna be honest; it’s not looking good.” We heard a noise, to which Ron brought his rifle up. “D’you hear that?” We stalked down, finding three more people, including the guard. “Alright, get up!” I barked, and they followed us to the vault. I opened it, and Dean and Sam were relieved to see that I was alive. “Sam, Dean, look, uh, Ronald and I need to talk to you. Also, a few more prisoners.” I shut the door behind me when Dean and Sam climbed out. “It's shed its skin again. We don't know when - it could be in the halls, it could be in the vault.”
“Great. You know, Dean, you are wanted by the police.” Sam pointed out.
“He is, but I need his help. We’re gonna tackle one problem at a time, yeah? Dean and I are gonna sweep the place, find some stragglers if they’re there. Sam, you help Ron manage-“
“Help him manage?! Are you insane?”
“‘Fraid so, cause everyone here is in danger, Sam. This is the plan we’ve got. Once we’re done, I’ll come back to you and we’ll play Find the Freak.” I took out a letter opener I’d swiped. “Anyone makes a suspicious move, use it.” I took out another gun and gave it to Dean. “Alright, let’s do this.”
“How do you know all this?” Dean asked.
“You’re forgetting that I have a romantic relationship with a police officer. Who has done hostage negotiations and raids in the past.” I sighed. “Look, I know this isn't going the way we wanted-“
“Understatement.” Sam growled.
“-but if we invite the cops in right now, Ronald gets arrested, we get arrested, the shifter gets away, probably never find it again, okay?” I turned to Ron. “Ron! Out of the light!”
“Seriously?!”
“Yeah, Ron's game plan was a bad plan, I mean, it was a bit of a crazy plan, but right now crazy's the only game in town, okay? Dean, come with me.” Dean and I walked off.
Tumblr media
A while later, I walked back after my sweep, finding Ron dead. I glared at Dean and Sam, who put their hands up. “Ok, this has gone way too far. The shifter ran away cause you let him out and now he’s probably a completely different person. Well done, you handled this perfectly.” I sighed. “Dean, get a hostage outside. Unharmed. Now!” Dean took the guard, going to the door. I bent down beside Ron, hefting his body out of the light.
“We are so screwed.” Dean grumbled when he latched the door again. I peered outside, seeing black vans pull up while Dean talked to Sam.
“We have a problem!” I yelled.
Tumblr media
Outside, a man in an FBI jacket approached the Milwaukee PD. “Lieutenant Robards.” He barked.
“Yeah.” Robards replied.
“Special Agent Henriksen.”
“Let me guess. You're lead dog now, but you would just love my full cooperation.”
“I don't give a rat's ass what you do, you can go get a donut for all I care. What I do need is your S.W.A.T. team locked and loaded.”
“Listen, Agent. Something's not right about this. It's, um ... it's not going down like a usual heist.”
“That's because it isn't one. You have no idea what you're dealing with, do you? There is a monster in that bank, Robards.”
Tumblr media
I picked up the landline, gritting my teeth. “Yeah?”
‘This is Special Agent Victor Henriksen.’
“Yeah, listen, I'm not really in the negotiating mood right now, so–”
‘Good. Me neither. It's my job to bring Dean in. Alive's a bonus but not necessary.’
“How do you-“
‘Yeah, I know. I want you, Dean and Sam out here, unarmed. Or we come in. And yes, I know about Sam too. And you, Ivonne Rainer. You’re the Bonnie to Dean’s Clyde, aren’t you?’
“No comment. How'd you even know we were here?”
‘Go screw yourself, that's how I knew. It's become my job to know about you. I've been looking for you for weeks now. I know about the murders in Jersey, I know about the Houdini act you pulled in Baltimore. I know about the desecrations and the thefts. I know about your family. Especially that father of yours. Some father he was, huh?.’
“You don’t know jack squat about my dad.”
‘Ex-Army general. Trained you since you were a young girl, put you in martial arts and taught you every method of survival. Most of your time was spent in a little cabin in the woods. Real militaristic survival.’
”Shut your mouth.”
‘Ooh, she’s got claws. Never expected it by someone who was raised like a soldier.’
“What do you want?”
‘All three of you, unarmed. You have one hour to make a decision or we come through those doors full automatic.’ He hung up, and I punched the table.
“Damn it!”
Tumblr media
“Scramble your men, five minutes, then we go in.” Henriksen ordered, standing up.
“What? Henriksen, they've let out one hostage so far. They've hurt no one as far as we can tell.” Robards frowned.
“You don't know these Winchesters, and Rainer, especially her. They're dangerous, smart, and expertly trained.”
“We can't risk the lives of all those people-“
“We know enough about the Winchesters to know that they’re insane, but don’t get me started on Ivonne Rainer.” He sized Robards up. “The Winchesters look and sound deadly, but Rainer’s a devil in disguise. Looks innocent, and hell, can she act innocent. Girl could be a mercenary in stilettos or in combat boots and a leather jacket and you wouldn’t see her coming until you’re on the floor with a bullet through your brain. She’s smart, she’s calculating, and has wormed her way out of serious charges twice, so she’s manipulative too. She didn’t hesitate before shooting her brother in self defence, and her boyfriend too, twice in the chest in cold, hard blood. She’s as dangerous as these Winchesters, maybe even more. A pretty face, but armed as hell.”
“This is crazy.”
“Crazy’s in there, and I just hung up on his right hand woman.”
Tumblr media
I went to the boys, grimacing. “We have a problem outside.”
“We have a problem in here.” Sam opened the vault, and Dean let Sherry out.
“We’re gonna let you go, Sherry.” Dean smiled.
“What? Why?” Sherry whimpered.
“As, uh, a good show of faith to the feds.” We led her into another room, where her dead body was kept.
“I thought you were letting me go.” She whispered, but then took one look at the body and started screaming.
“Is that community theater, or are you just naturally that good?”
“Tonight’s the last night you become anybody. Ever.” Sam smirked. Dean raised his gun, but then she fainted. He was about to shoot, but I put out my hand, shaking my head.
“It can’t be her. Fainting’s not gonna save her, the shifter’s smart enough to know that.” I frowned.
“Huh.” Dean knelt over the dead body, but then it opened his eyes and began wrestling with Dean. Sherry woke, and backed into Sam, who took her out of the way as she cried. I joined in on the fight, gesturing for Sam to clear Sherry out of the way as Dean got knocked in the chin. I slammed the shifter against the wall, taking out my gun, but I got headbutted, releasing my hold as the shifter bolted. I ran after it, but I’d lost it. Then I got rammed into a room, hand on my throat. I kicked the shifter away, sweeping its legs and managing to grab my gun again, shooting it in the chest. It cried out for a moment, but then went limp. I found my purse, taking out my wig and jumpsuit and slipping both of those back on while I met Dean and Sam, who were wearing S.W.A.T uniforms.
“Who d’you strip to get those?” I sighed.
”Two officers that I knocked out.” Sam answered casually.
“We’re so screwed.” Dean breathed.
“Royally screwed, Dean.” I grimaced. We turned on the Impala’s radio, driving off.

Biden’s commitment to Zionism is excessive, even by the standard of US politics. ‘If there were not an Israel’, he once said, ‘we’d have to invent one’. This zeal is not, as it is sometimes assumed, a function of the old man’s memories of a kinder, gentler Israel which no longer exists. He has consistently defended the state at its very worst moments. In 1982, the brutality of the war in Lebanon offended Ronald Reagan, a man who once threatened to pave Vietnam and paint it over with parking stripes. ‘Menachem’, the Gipper told his Israeli counterpart, ‘this is a holocaust’. But when then-Senator Biden rang up Begin, it was to reassure him that it wouldn’t matter ‘if all the civilians get killed’.
.....
According to the New York Times, one of Harris’s ‘most essential confidantes’, not to mention funders, is Laurene Powell Jobs, widow of the Apple executive. Among Powell Jobs’s billions of dollars of assets is The Atlantic, a magazine whose current editor-in-chief volunteered as a prison guard during the First Intifada. Exemplifying, and to some extent leading, a broader shift in liberal opinion, The Atlantic has largely abandoned topics such as reparations and racial reckonings in favour of articles like ‘Charge Palestine With Genocide Too’ and ‘The UN’s Gaza Statistics Make No Sense’ and statements like ‘It is possible to kill children legally’. No doubt Powell Jobs’s concerns are mostly domestic. Per the Times, she hopes that Harris will abandon Biden’s ‘hostile rhetoric . . .  about rich people and Silicon Valley’. But there’s no reason to own a magazine if it doesn’t correspond in some way to your own views, and on Israel the Atlantic line is clear.
....
The people closest to Harris have a range of ideas about what supporting Israel means, but the boundaries of the debate are limited by a basic consensus.
This consensus is visible in the recent appointment of a new Deputy Assistant Secretary of State for Israeli and Palestinian Affairs, Mira Resnick. Resnick has longstanding ties to AIPAC and is ‘well known and respected in the Israeli national security and foreign policy establishment’. Most recently, she has distinguished herself by working behind the scenes to overcome congressional concerns about arms transfer to Israel. Resnick’s hawkish profile is especially stark when you consider that her predecessor, Andrew Miller, resigned over the administration’s approach to Gaza. Annelle Sheline, another State Department official who quit in protest, said that Miller ‘did his best to try to push back on the administration’s determination to facilitate genocide. Whereas DAS Resnick will eagerly support it’. The appointment was warmly welcomed by the AIPAC-aligned Democratic Majority for Israel, but also by Jeremy Ben-Ami, head of the ostensibly liberal Zionist group J Street. A disturbing equilibrium, which no force currently visible within US domestic politics seems capable of disturbing.

𝙽𝚒𝚐𝚑𝚝𝚜𝚑𝚒𝚏𝚝𝚎𝚛 (𝙿𝚝 𝟷)
An attractive young woman comes out of the back with some papers in her hand. Dean turns to face her as she speaks. He is dressed in a dark suit.
"So, what's it like, being an FBI guy?" The woman asks.
"Well, it's dangerous. And the secrets we've gotta keep, oh. God, the secrets. But mostly it's, it's lonely."
"I so know what you mean." Dean nods sagely.
"Yeah." Elsewhere in the store: Sam, also dressed in a suit, with slicked hair, and Y/N, dressed in a white blouse, pants, and jacket, hair tied up in a messy bun, are interrogating the manager, a middle-aged man.
"Helena was our head buyer. She... she was family, you know? She said it herself, every year at the Christmas party. She said we were the only family she had," he says.
"So, there were never any signs that she'd do something like this?" Y/N asks.
"No. Still can't believe it, even now. That night, Helena came back to the store after closing. Cleaned out all the display cases, and the safe. Edgar - our night watchman - he caught her in the act. He didn't know what to do, he'd known her for years. He called me at home."
"And that's when she took his gun?" Sam says.
"She shot him in the face. I heard him die. Over the phone."
"Any idea what her motive could have been?"
"What motive? It makes no sense. Why steal all those diamonds, all that jewelry, and then what? Just dump it somewhere, just hide it, and then go home and-"
==
"She killed herself?" Dean asks.
"Well, the cops said. She dropped the hairdryer in the bath and fried herself. They should know, right?"
"Yeah. Well, thanks, Frannie, I think that's all I need."
"Really? Because I've got more. You know," Frannie looks around slyly, "If you wanted to interview me sometime. In private?" Dean eyes Sam and Y/N guiltily across the room.
"Yeah. Yeah, I think that's a good idea. You're a true patriot, you really are. Why don't you write your number down there for me, that'd be good."
==
"So, you never saw the security camera footage yourself, then?" Y/N says.
"No. The police, they took all the tapes, first thing," Dean approaches.
"Yeah, of course they did." He waves Frannie's number at Sam and Y/N.
==
Leaving the jewelry store, Sam, Dean, and Y/N drive down a dark street and pull up in front of a small house.
"Five - this is it," Y/N says.
"Friggin' cops."
"They're just doing their job, Dean."
"No, they're doing our job, only they don't know it, so they suck at it. Talk to me about this bank." They get out of the car and approach the house.
"Um, Milwaukee National Trust. It was hit about a month ago."
"Same M.O. as the jewelry store?"
"Yep, inside job, longtime employee, the never-in-a-million-years type. Dude robs the bank, then goes home and supposedly commits suicide," Y/N says.
"The guy Resnick, he was the security guard on duty?"
"Yeah. He was actually beaten unconscious by the teller who heisted the place."
"God," Dean says.
"Yeah." Sam knocks on the screen door. "Mr. Resnick? Ronald Resnick?" A bright floodlight turns on, and they shield their eyes.
"Son of a-" A youngish man comes to the door warily.
"FBI, Mr. Resnick."
"Let me see the badge." Sam, Dean, and Y/N pull out badges and slap them against the screen door in unison. Ronald squints at them carefully.
"I already gave my statement to the police."
"Yeah, listen Ronald, um...just some things about your statement we wanted to get some clarification on."
"You read it?" Ronald asks.
"Sure did," Y/N says.
"You come to listen to what I've got to say."
"Well, that's why we're here."
"Well. Come on in." Ronald opens the door and leads them through a narrow hallway to a cluttered room; the walls are covered with alien photos and conspiracy theory paraphernalia. "None of the cops ever called me back. Not after I told them what was really going on. Uh, they all thought I was crazy. First off, Juan Morales never robbed the Milwaukee National Trust, okay? That, I guarantee. See, we and Juan were friends. He used to come back to the bank on my night shifts, and we'd play cards."
"So, you let him into the bank that night, after hours?" Sam says.
"The thing I let into the bank...wasn't Juan. I mean, it had his face, but it wasn't his face. Uh, every detail was perfect, but too perfect, you know, like If a dollmaker made it, like I was talking to a bug Juan-doll."
"A Juan-doll?" Y/N says doubtfully.
"Look. This wasn't the only time this happened. Okay?" Ronald says, handing Sam a file folder. "There was this jewelry store, too. And the cops, a--and you guys, you just won't see it!" Sam looks in the folder; it looks like a Hunter's profile of the jewelry case. "Both crimes were pulled by the same thing."
"What's that, Mr. Resnick?" Y/N asks. Ronald picks up a copy of a magazine called 'Fortean Times' and holds it to his chest. The headlines at the bottom read 'Birth of the Cybermen.'
"Are we living in Doctor Who or something?" Y/N mutters to herself.
"Chinese’ ve been working on 'em for years. And the Russians before that. Part men, part machine. Like the Terminator. But the kind that change itself, make itself look like other people." Dean smirks.
"Like the one from T2."
"Exactly! See, so not just a robot, more of a, a, a, a... Manroid."
"A Manroid?"
"And what makes you so sure about this, Ronald?" Y/N asks. Ronald holds up a finger, smiling a little wildly. Later, Ronald inserts a VHS tape into a player.
"See, I made copies of all the security tapes. I knew once the cops got them, they'd be buried," Dean nods. "Here." Ronald fast-forwards the tape. "Now watch. Watch. Watch him, watch, watch! See, look! Th-, th-, there it is!" Ronald pauses the tape. "You, see? He's got the laser eyes." On the tape, Juan is facing the camera with a light-flare in his eyes. Sam, Dean, and Y/N share a knowing look. "Cops said it was some kind of reflected light. Some kind of 'camera flare'. Okay? Ain't no damn camera flare. They say I'm a post-trauma case. So what? Bank goes and fires me, it doesn’t matter!" Y/N eyes him cautiously as he continues to rant. "The Mandroid is, is still out there. The law won't hunt this thing down -- I'll do it myself. You see, this thing, it, it, it kills the real person, makes it look like a suicide, then it sorts of, like, morphs into that person. Cases the job for a while until it knows the take is fat, and then it finds its opening. Now, these robberies, they're, they're grouped together," Ronald gestures at a map on the wall. "So I figure the Mandroid is holed up somewhere in the middle, underground, maybe. I dunno, maybe that's where it recharges its, uh, Mandroid batteries." Dean nods, apparently impressed. Sam and Y/N stare intently; they both stand.
"Okay. I want you to listen very carefully. Because I'm about to tell you the God's honest truth about all of this," Dean and Y/N smile, waiting to see what Sam says. "There's no such thing as Mandroids. There's nothing evil or inhuman going on out there. Just people. Nothing else. You understand?" Dean and Y/N look at each other as they try to keep a straight face, but the two are clearly startled. Sam starts to say something.
"The laser eyes," Ronald says desperate.
"Just a camera flare, Mr. Resnick, I know you don't want to believe this. But your friend Juan robbed the bank and that's it."
"Get out of my house! Now!"
"Sure. First things first," Y/N frowns at Sam in further confusion.
==
Sam, Dean, and Y/N return to their motel room, which has the obligatory Tacky Wall Decorations. They're dressed in ordinary clothing again.
"Man, that has got to be the kicker, straight up. I mean, you say that poor son of a bitch that -- what did you say, remand the tapes that he copied? Classified evidence of an ongoing investigation?" Y/N laughs "That's messed up." Sam sits down to watch the tape.
"What are you, pissed at me or something?"
"Nah, I just think it's a little creepy how good of a Fred you are. I mean, come on, we could have at least thrown the guy a bone. He did some pretty good legwork here."
"Manroid?"
"Except for the Manroid part. I liked him. He's not that different from you or me. People think we're crazy," Dean says.
"Yeah, except he's not a hunter. He's just a guy who stumbled onto something real. If he were to go up against this thing he'd get torn apart. Better to stay in the dark, and stay alive."
"Yeah, I guess," Dean places tracing paper over the map and starts marking it with a red pen as Sam pauses the tape on the flaring eyes.
"Shapeshifter. Just like back in St. Louis. Same retinal reaction to video," Y/N says.
"Eyes flare at the camera. I hate those friggin' things."
"You think we don't?" Sam says.
"Yeah, well, one didn't turn into you and frame you for murder," Dean is tracing a pattern on paper of the sewer system.
"Well, look. If this shifter's anything like the one who killed in Missouri—"
"Then Ronald was right. All right, they like to layer up underground, preferably the sewer. And all the robberies have been connected so far, right?"
"Yeah."
"With the, uh, sewer main layout. There's one more bank lined up on that same sewer main." Hours later, the three arrive at the bank. A security guard leads Sam, Dean, and Y/N, now uniformed as Security Guard Service technicians, down the main hall.
"Well, we haven't had any flags go up on our system yet," the guard says.
"No, this is a glitch in the overall grid. We just want to make sure the branch monitors are kosher," Y/N says.
"Well, better to be safer than sorry, I guess."
"That's the plan," Dean says. The Guard opens the door to an observation room with several TV screens showing security footage.
"All righty. You guys need anything else?" The guard asks.
"Oh, no, no, we'll be, uh, we'll be in and out before you know it, just a routine check."
"Okie-dokie," the guard leaves.
"I like him. He says 'Okie-dokie,'" Dean says.
"What if he's the shifter?" Sam says.
"Well, then we follow him home, put a silver bullet through his chest plate," Y/N says. They sit down to watch the screens.
"Okay. Well, you got any popcorn?"
"Or beer?" Y/N asks. Later, the three are still reviewing the screens; the Guard is on one, and his eyes are normal.
"Well, it looks like mister okie-dokie is...okie-dokie."
"Maybe we jumped the gun on this, Guys. I mean, we don't even know it's here," Dean seems distracted.
"Mm-hmm."
"Maybe we should just go back to the sewers and... and..."
"...and he's not listening," Y/N says. Dean is zooming one of the cameras in on the ass of an attractive young woman who is bending over.
"Dean, we're supposed to be looking for eyes," Sam says, exasperated.
"I'm getting there."
"Oh yeah?" Y/N says.
"Wait a minute." On another screen, a middle-aged man turns towards the camera; his eyes flare. "Hello, freak."
"Got him," Sam and Dean head for the door, but Y/N lingers behind, looking at another screen.
"Guys!"
"What?" The two ask in unison. They watch as Ronald scurries up to the outer door with a chain and a padlock, chaining the door shut.
"Hello Ronald," Y/N says. Later, Sam, Dean, and Y/N walk down a hallway towards the main hall; a few panicked people brush past them, running the other way.
"And you said we shouldn't bring guns," Dean says.
"I don't know this was gonna happen, Dean."
"Just let us do the talking. I don't think he likes you very much, Agent Johnson," Y/N says. In the Main Hall of the bank, holding up a key.
"Now, there's only one way in or out of here, and I chained it up. So, nobody's leaving, do you understand?" The siblings enter.
"Hey, buddy. Calm down. Just calm down," Y/N says.
"What the-You! Get on the floor, now," Ronald says, pointing the gun at the three.
"Okay, we're doing that. Just don't shoot anybody, especially us," Dean says, as the three kneel on the ground.
"I knew it. As soon as you three left. You ain't FBI. Who are you? Who are you working for, huh? The men and I guess woman in black? You working for the Mandroid?"
"We're not working for the Manroid!" Sam shouts.
"You, shut up! I ain't talking to you. I don't like you," Y/N huffs a laugh, and Dean gives Sam an 'I told you so' look. "Fair enough." Ronald turns to one of the hostages.
"Get on 'em. Frisk them down, make sure they got no weapons on them. Go!" A middle-aged black man goes over to Sam, Dean, and Y/N and frisks them; he finds two knives in Dean and Y/N's boots.
"Now what have we here?"
"Oh my, how did that get in there?" Y/N says, smiling sheepishly.
"We're not just gonna walk in here naked!" Dean shouts, noticing Sam's look. Ronald takes the knives.
"Get back there," he tells the hostage and drops the knives in the deposit box. They clatter.
"No, no, no, no, no!" The twins say in unison and wince.
"We know you don't want to hurt anybody. That's exactly what's gonna happen if you keep waving that cannon around, and why don't you let these people go?" Dean says.
"No! I already told you. If nobody's gonna stop this thing, then I've got to do it myself."
"Hey, we believe you! That's why we're here," Dean says, and Y/N nods.
"You don't believe me. Nobody believes me! How could they?"
"Come here," Y/N says.
"What? No."
"You're holding the gun, boss, you're calling the shots. I just want to tell you something," Ronald approaches cautiously and leans in. "It's the bank manager."
"What?" Ronald asks.
"Why do you think we've got these getups, huh? We've been monitoring the cameras in the back. We saw the bank manager. We saw his eyes."
"His laser eyes?"
"Yes. No. No! No, look, we're running out of time, okay? We've got to find him before he changes into someone else," Dean says.
"Like I'm gonna listen to you. You're a damn liar," Y/N stands cautiously, hands out. "I'll shoot you! Get down!"
"Take me. Okay? Take me with you, take me as a hostage. But we've gotta act fast. Because the longer we just sit here the more time he has to change." There is a short pause. "Look at me, man. I believe you. You're not crazy. There really is something inside this bank." Dean and Sam look at her as if she is crazy.
"All right. You come with me. But everyone else gets in the vault!" The other hostages gasp and cry. Later, Ronald ushers the hostages, including Sam and Dean, into the vault. "Come on, move, move! Move, move!" Ronald turns to Y/N. "And you lock it up." Y/N starts moving the heavy door shut.
"It's okay, everyone. Just stay close." She shrugs at Sam and Dean in apology; Dean swallows unhappily, and Sam frowns at her; Y/N slams the door shut.
