Los perritos de Valaquia

Había un joven rumano de las regiones de Wallachia que necesitaba hacer una flauta de la corteza de un árbol.  Estaba indeciso sobre qué árbol elegir, él no tenía experiencia con la carpintería, sólo era un granjero al que le gustaba cantar y pastorear sus ovejas. 

Una noche se dirigió a las casas blancas de Tara Luanei para meditar, la meditación ahí es algo normal ha sido una práctica recurrida por monjes en la historia de Rumania. En sus meditaciones vio cosas que normalmente un granjero ve en su cotidianidad: las ovejas que iba a pastorear en las mañanas, sus caballos (para cada rumano tener caballos es entrañable, es más, ellos forman parte de las familias), romaníes alegres tocando el violín haciendo música en las calles, hasta que quedó en un estado de meditación profundo y en su mente vio el cielo y se imaginó viajando, tocó las nubes y fue subiendo hacia arriba al espacio exterior; vio figuras cósmicas espaciales como nebulosas, polvo cósmico y cometas, hasta que chocó con una estrella, que le pertenecía al señor Orión, la cual le dijo tímidamente:

—Disculpa, no quise lastimarte. -- dijo la estrella cuyo nombre era Mintaka, pero Orión se mostró molesto al no saber qué criatura era Mihai, el granjero.

— ¿Quién crees que eres al perturbar mis estrellas?

—Soy un granjero.

— ¿Quién te manda?, Este espacio es sólo para mí y para mis estrellas?

— Es…toy soñando, señor.

— Como disculpa ante mí, plantarás árboles de las semillas que te daré. Plántalas por todo Wallachia y serás perdonado por tu insolencia de molestar a Orión, que soy yo. 

Mihai despertó con un costalito de semillas, quedó espantado, pero supuso que iba a estar más espantado si no seguía las órdenes de Orión. Ya de era de noche y se dirigió a su casa, prendió la estufa que estaba cerca de su cama como típica casa tradicional rumana e hizo café, en lo que se calentaba salió de su casa y al menos plantó un árbol, regresó a su casa, cerró su casa y procedió a tomar su café y dormir. 

Al despertar se preocupó porque su casa no se iluminó como todas las mañanas, entonces se levantó pensando que casi no durmió y que aún era de noche, salió de su casa para darse cuenta que sí durmió bien y que en realidad la semilla que plantó se transformó a árbol en una sola noche y que ese árbol en realidad le tapaba la luz del sol. Él tomó una rama grande de ese árbol, porque le pareció muy especial, y empezó a tallar su flauta, le tomó toda una semana hacer su flauta y la empezó a tocar en su casa y funcionaba bien, se la llevó a su granja y se acercó a sus animales, sus caballos se ponían agresivos cuando el tocaba la flauta, sin embargo, él no sabía por qué.

Al día siguiente pensó tocar la flauta más temprano, lejos de sus caballos, los caballos enojados rompieron una reja de su establo, se dio cuenta que a lado de ellos aparecían perros muy lanudos, pero eso era raro, él no tenía perros ni para pastorear. Para controlar el estrés de reparar su reja, él empezó a tocar la flauta de madera, pero empezó a ver que mucha paja del alimento de los caballos se vaciaba y empezaba a agruparse, paró de tocar la flauta y la paja dejaba de juntarse cuando él paró de tocar su instrumento. Él lo vio como ordinario, pero se acercó a una bola de paja que se formó, él pensó que era el aire, sin embargo, descubrió que de toda esa paja se formó como un perro parecido a los que encontró en el pesebre. ¡Un perro hecho de paja del alimento de los caballos!, pero sólo pasaba cada vez que él tocaba su flauta.  Siguió tocando y podía ver como la paja se unía para formar más bolas de este material. Mihai estaba asombrado de los cuatro perritos que se formaron gracias a la paja, eran de colores distintos y cada uno de ellos era un perro de raza rumana, un Pastor rumano de Mioritza, un Pastor de los Cárpatos, un Pastor rumano de Bucovina y un Pastor de Corb, cada uno merecía un nombre, pero el pastor Mihai no tenía imaginación, quizá con el tiempo cada uno será nombrado.

Cristian Mungiu, director who won the prestigious Palme d'Or award at Cannes, spoke to Observator, Antena 1, about the new film he is preparing and which stars Sebastian Stan, an actor recently nominated for an Oscar.

Cristian Mungiu, a filmmaker who won an award at Cannes for the film 4 Months, 3 Weeks and 2 Days, but also the director of films such as Occident, După Dealuri or Baccalaureat, gave an EXCLUSIVE interview to Observator. He said that he was with Sebastian Stan when the Romanian actor was nominated for an Oscar. Cristian Mungiu also talked about his new film, a production that will take him to Norway for filming and which has Sebastian Stan in the lead role.

"For now, Sebastian came to Romania for some rehearsals. We are not in a promotional phase because we don't really have anything to promote yet. We are organizing to make the film and it was important for us to see each other at this stage."

I met with Sebastian and Renate Reinsve, the lead actress, for some costume fitting and rehearsals, and what was also nice was that we were together when he received this news.

(Reporter: So he was in Romania?) Yes, he was in Romania and we were happy. He was emotional, but we agreed that we would work that day and we were in rehearsals when I received a message. I was happy to tell him: hey, you've been nominated!

Of course we were happy, but it's very important that now we can focus on what we have to do, because what we have to do next is quite difficult.

I hope we can start filming in March. We have to film for about two months, until May, in Norway. It is still not clear whether we will also film in Romania, probably not, but that is a decision we will make a little later. We have a cast made up mostly of Nordic actors: Norwegians, Danes, Swedes, plus Sebastian and a few Romanians.

"We've known each other for a long time. He came to New York once, when I was screening a film, and we met. We agreed to stay in touch in the hope that one day we would find a project to work on together. And look, I found one that was convenient for both me and him. For him, both in terms of role, language, and period," said Cristian Mungiu.

He also gave some details about the script.

(Reporter: What is the film about?) "It's the story of a meeting of two cultures, if you want to say it that way, which is expressed in the film through the meeting between two families who live next to each other in a very isolated locality, in a Norwegian fjord, in a place that we found and where there are only two or three houses. A situation that brings a fairly intimate report between neighbors and that shows a certain exchange related to each one's cultural values, ideas about family, about education. It's a community story, a story about the need to understand that there are no longer monoblock communities like before.

I don't know if it's a "difficult" film, because I've never made easy films. It's a more difficult film because I'm filming in a language other than Romanian, a difficult film because it also has to do with how the seasons manifest themselves today and because we don't know what weather we'll get there.

We're filming for about 50 days and the hope is that during this period we'll catch snow, rain, and spring.

"If everything goes well, we will try to get him to Cannes in 2026," he added.
