EXCLUSIVE. How Sebastian Stan found out he was nominated for an Oscar: "I stopped rehearsals and told him." Cristian Mungiu, interview for Observator.
Cristian Mungiu, a filmmaker who won an award at Cannes for the film 4 Months, 3 Weeks and 2 Days, but also the director of films such as Occident, După Dealuri or Baccalaureat, gave an EXCLUSIVE interview to Observator. He said that he was with Sebastian Stan when the Romanian actor was nominated for an Oscar. Cristian Mungiu also talked about his new film, a production that will take him to Norway for filming and which has Sebastian Stan in the lead role.
"For now, Sebastian came to Romania for some rehearsals. We are not in a promotional phase because we don't really have anything to promote yet. We are organizing to make the film and it was important for us to see each other at this stage."
I met with Sebastian and Renate Reinsve, the lead actress, for some costume fitting and rehearsals, and what was also nice was that we were together when he received this news.
(Reporter: So he was in Romania?) Yes, he was in Romania and we were happy. He was emotional, but we agreed that we would work that day and we were in rehearsals when I received a message. I was happy to tell him: hey, you've been nominated!
Of course we were happy, but it's very important that now we can focus on what we have to do, because what we have to do next is quite difficult.
I hope we can start filming in March. We have to film for about two months, until May, in Norway. It is still not clear whether we will also film in Romania, probably not, but that is a decision we will make a little later. We have a cast made up mostly of Nordic actors: Norwegians, Danes, Swedes, plus Sebastian and a few Romanians.
"We've known each other for a long time. He came to New York once, when I was screening a film, and we met. We agreed to stay in touch in the hope that one day we would find a project to work on together. And look, I found one that was convenient for both me and him. For him, both in terms of role, language, and period," said Cristian Mungiu.
He also gave some details about the script.
(Reporter: What is the film about?) "It's the story of a meeting of two cultures, if you want to say it that way, which is expressed in the film through the meeting between two families who live next to each other in a very isolated locality, in a Norwegian fjord, in a place that we found and where there are only two or three houses. A situation that brings a fairly intimate report between neighbors and that shows a certain exchange related to each one's cultural values, ideas about family, about education. It's a community story, a story about the need to understand that there are no longer monoblock communities like before.
I don't know if it's a "difficult" film, because I've never made easy films. It's a more difficult film because I'm filming in a language other than Romanian, a difficult film because it also has to do with how the seasons manifest themselves today and because we don't know what weather we'll get there.
We're filming for about 50 days and the hope is that during this period we'll catch snow, rain, and spring.
"If everything goes well, we will try to get him to Cannes in 2026," he added.

2026 OSCAR PREDICTIONS
We are twelve months away from the next Academy Awards, and it’s way too early to predict the next batch of Best Picture nominees, but let’s do it anyway:
Alpha
Avatar: Fire and Ash
Die, My Love
F1
Frankenstein
Highest 2 Lowest
Marty Supreme
One Battle After Another
Sentimental Value
The Ballad of a Small Player
The Academy tends to nominate two big budget blockbusters each year. It’s not clear which upcoming blockbusters will be popular enough to get onto the ballot. My bet is on F1 (Joseph Kosinski) and an Avatar resurgence for Avatar: Fire and Ash(James Cameron).
In recent years, around three Best Picture slots have been secured by films which premiered in Cannes. We obviously don’t yet know what films are playing at Cannes, and so let’s pick some Cannes-regulars instead. My bets are on Neon-backed Sentimental Value (Joachim Trier) and Alpha (Julia Ducournau) as well as A24’s Highest 2 Lowest (Spike Lee). I also suspect that Die, My Love (Lynne Ramsey) could make the cut.
What other films might round off The Academy’s top ten? New releases from Guillermo del Toro (Frankenstein) and Paul Thomas Anderson (One Battle After Another) are surely locks. And given the popularity of his last two films, I suspect that Edward Berger’s The Ballad of a Small Player is destined for a nomination too.
My predictions aren’t complete without a Timothée Chalamet leading role. So Marty Supreme (Josh Safdie) completes my list.
Several filmmakers in my predictions (Josh Safdie, Julia Ducournau and Lynne Ramsey) would be first-time Oscar nominees, and are the type of exciting and uncompromising filmmakers that The Academy should recognise. Hopefully this is the year that culture catches up.
Some big names are missing from my list, but The Academy can’t pick everything. I suspect that fatigue and overexposure will put members off nominating Wicked: For Good (Jon M. Chu). I think excitement for Chloe Zhao’s Hamnet was dashed by the mixed reactions to her last film. The Academy has snubbed recent work from Luca Guadagnino, and so I don’t expect After The Hunt to get a nomination. If Yorgos Lanthimos didn’t get a Best Picture nod last year, I wouldn’t count on one for Bugonia. And the world doesn’t need another musical biopic, even if Deliver Me from Nowhere (Scott Cooper) is about the great Bruce Springsteen.
There are also some potentially less controversial omissions from my list. Bong Joon-ho’s Mickey 17 and Celine Song’s Materialists have released too early for a serious Oscar campaign. Wes Anderson doesn’t tend to get Best Picture nominations, and so The Phoenician Scheme probably won’t either. I don’t think the awards season can handle two films about Frankenstein, so I’m ruling The Bride! (Maggie Gyllenhaal) out of consideration. I doubt that Jay Kelly (Noah Baumbach) would have enough steam to sustain a race for Best Picture. And films like The Smashing Machine (Benny Safdie), 28 Years Later (Danny Boyle) and Eddington (Ari Aster) are probably too far removed from Academy tastes to achieve a nomination.
If I were to throw some wildcards into the mix, I would pick Late Fame (Kent Jones), The Drama (Kristoffer Borgli), Sacrifice(Romain Gavras), Mother Mary (David Lowery), and I Want Your Sex (Gregg Araki). These films will face an uphill battle with The Academy, who tend to recognise films by more mainstream and established filmmakers. However, these films do have popular names attached, which could be enough to propel them into the pop culture zeitgeist.
What do you think?

When Xavier Dolan stated that he was retiring from filmmaking because “art is meaningless” and “the world is burning,” I gave him around a year to backtrack and announce a new project.
It’s around a year now since Dolan’s comments went viral, and guess what? He’s making a new film. Dolan is now telling a French outlet IONCINEMA that heading the jury of this year’s Un Certain Regard sidebar at Cannes reinvigorated him.
Dolan has dusted off a project he wrote before the pandemic, and is now putting the finishing touches on what will be his ninth feature film. He’s making a horror film. Dolan says the upcoming film “explores themes of fear, failure, and rejection.” He’s 20 pages away from finalizing the screenplay and is “pleased with its development.”
The film is set in 1880s France and will be shot in that country. He is aiming for a fall 2025 shoot, which means a Cannes 2026 premiere would be the best possible outcome for his return to the Croissette.

Production has begun for ‘FJORD’ by Cristian Mungiu.
Starring Academy Award nominee SEBASTIAN STAN and RENATE REINSVE. Set mainly in Norway, with a release in 2026. Eyeing for a premiere at Cannes, and will be campaigned during the awards season.
It’s the first Romanian film for Stan, since leaving Romania as a child, and the second meeting on screen between him and Renate Reinsve after A Different Man by Aaron Schimberg. Which brought him many awards and accolades including a Golden Globe for Best Performance by Male Actor in a Motion Picture, Musical or Comedy.

There isn’t a date posted. This is heavy speculation. Honey Don’t I’m thinking will be late winter/early spring release. There’s rumors of Materialists at Cannes. And Sacrifice just wrapped in December. So I feel Venice or TIFF could be the debut for it. But nothing official has been said. //
There’s someone on LSA saying Sacrifice won’t be released until 2026. Would they wait that long to release it?
🤷🏻‍♀️ that’s completely up to Romain. We will just have to wait and see until there’s an official confirmation. We’re just speculating on dates. It’s possible that Sacrifice won’t release until early 2026.

I am 100% sure that both Ayo and Jeremy will be at next year's Actors on Actors to promote their own movies. All of Luca's young actors have been there: Timothee, Zendaya, Josh, Drew. Also the biographical movie of Jeremy will also secure him a position there, plus he has already been there once. What I don't believe is that they have to do it together, imagine a world in which it happens. We all die and will be resurrected to see it hahahaha. What will also happen is that they will meet at the 2026 awards ceremonies whether or not they are nominated for the series, because they will be nominated for their performances in their films. Maybe with luck they will be at some festival at same time, hoping Cannes or Venice and they will also be nominated for the Oscars. 🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻
excellent points, all the stars are aligning for the 25-26 awards season 👀

When I see all these events like Met Gala , Cannes film festivals etc I feel bittersweet feelings thinking that if Tae was not in MS then he would have definitely be invited & gone to these events . Even though korean fasion is bland ( personal opinion) but j think Tae likes to experiment, I think he tells his stylist to style him so that it is unique to him (his butter era hair cut) & goes with his personality. Seeing he is most of the time a trend setter, talk of fasion shows (that Paris fasion week) , I know he would have rocked any looks in these red carpets . Sigh , well like we have no choice but to wait.
I agree he absolutely would serve but also the Met Gala is so fashion-political. Hedi Slimane hates the Met. Anna Wintour hates many people, I swear she bans someone every year. And you know you have to pay $75,000 to attend? It's very... Inauthentic.
I almost feel like Tae is beyond it. No shade at all to SKZ, I think it's absolutely proper and right that they took a huge stage like this as part of their big year but I feel at this point in Tae's worldwide fame, what would he actually gain unless it's like a goal for him? We would gain an absolute slay, of that I'm certain, but I just can't see him flying for it.
He's carving out a really wonderful and rare niche in fashion in that his Celine ambassadorship feels like a match made in heaven. You can feel he genuinely likes Celine and they're getting so many beautiful photos from him as I posted yesterday. It feels on his terms and aligned with his ethos. Maybe the Met Gala is too broad and pose-y for him.
Cannes feels more likely to me. It's a bit more intimate, bit more... European 😂
But he might just turn up to the Met in 2026, who knows? I don't know what makes him tick ultimately. I'm just taking wild guesses.

hello! I would like to rephrase my question lol becaus ei think that i have send to many.
1) Will I be a huge famous person in the future? Like an it girl??
2) Will I get a huge glow up until 2026? Because i find myself so ugly right now and i realize that my face is too wide and my body is desproportional .
3) Will I be a billionare in future?
4) If i will be in KPOP could i be the most famous in my group and successfully be a model, actress, filmmaker, songwriter, dancer, singer, performer while being a CEO of a company that sell dermatology medicine and surgery robots , have a coffe shop with a friend and a floriculture?
5) If i also go in the path in acting and filmmaker can i go the festival of cannes??
thank uu☺️☺️💕🫶
initials : thnp/ sun sign : Gemini / favorite number : 5
I don't think you're supposed to ask these type of questions because I don't think famous people would be out here asking this in the first place. But rather working towards these goals and making it happen, regardless the circumstances. Also I don't believe "it girls" and kpop stars would be on Tumblr at all. So sorry but I will not answer these.

Details of Sebastian Stan's visit to Romania. He stayed at a luxury hotel in downtown Bucharest, went out on the town and posed for pictures.
From Hollywood to Bucharest. Sebastian Stan found out he was nominated for an Oscar while he was in the capital, at rehearsals. The Romanian superstar is preparing for his role in the film directed by Cristian Mungiu. The visit was planned discreetly and few details were known to fans. He stayed at a luxury hotel in the center of Bucharest, went out on the town and posed, among others, with another champion - David Popovici.

Two weeks after his declaration of love on the Golden Globes stage, Hollywood star Sebastian Stan has arrived in Romania for a visit . He is preparing to film his first Romanian feature film, directed by Cristian Mungiu.
"Sebastian came to Romania for some rehearsals. We are in a preparation phase. It was important to see each other for some costume tests and rehearsals. We were together when we received the news that he was nominated for an Oscar . So that he wouldn't have too many emotions, we agreed that we would work that day and, during rehearsals, I received a message that he had been nominated. I was pleased to give him the news," said Cristian Mungiu.
The superstar's film partner, Norwegian actress Renate Reinsve, who won an award at Cannes, also arrived in Romania.
Sebastian Stan and Renate Reinsve also starred together in the film "A Different Man"
"I asked him if he had time, I gave him the script, he liked it, we met and decided that we would work together. We have known each other for a long time. He came to New York when I was preparing another film and we agreed to stay in touch to find a project to work on together," added Mungiu.
In a recent interview, Sebastian Stan said he can't wait to get into the role he has in the film directed by Cristian Mungiu, titled "Fjord." "I tried to find a project that would bring me back to Romania and exploit that personal history that I have. I'm excited to work with Cristian Mungiu and I hope everything ends well," the actor said.
Before filming began, Sebastian Stan went out on the town with the production team and several businessmen, at the Universul Palace.
"He seemed to me to be an extremely modest and friendly character, very involved in this project. It is his first film in Romanian, which he speaks with his mother. I think this project has a very high personal value for him," said Laura Mihăilă, communications director at a bank.
Sebastian Stan met with swimming champion David Popovici
Tumblr media
The actor also met with swimming champion David Popovici . "Yes, Sebastian Stan is just as cool in real life. They say if I train hard enough, maybe I'll get a role in a Marvel movie," Popovici wrote on Facebook. In just a few hours, the post received tens of thousands of likes.
Sebastian Stan was accommodated at a five-star hotel in the center of the capital and was driven around Bucharest in a luxury limousine. The actor speaks Romanian fluently, thanks to his mother, a piano teacher.
The Romanian film directed by Cristian Mungiu follows the story of a Romanian family that moves to Norway and ends up involved in a complicated civil lawsuit, following accusations of physical abuse. The film addresses themes such as tolerance, freedom and the boundaries of privacy, with children in the foreground. Filming will take place in Norway, and the project is financed by the National Center of Cinematography with 3.5 million lei. The film "Fjord" is already one of the most anticipated titles of 2026.

I was trying to place bets on when we might see him next. Has he even gone to the SAG awards? Those are this week. After that only the Oscars in March but maybe he's going to do the after party only since he has no projects up. Then Cannes in May. Venice in August. Maybe TIFF in September. Am I missing something? I wonder if all these movies are going to be released this year and if he can start filming a long project with the promo in between. Maybe between March-May, so he can focus on promo after that? ig it all depends on the release dates right? I was thinking in 2022 he mostly did promo during the year, only filmed the short movie and then the big filming project was at end of year. I wonder if the plan for this year is similar
i don’t think he’s ever gone to the SAGs and he definitely won’t go to the Oscars. I’ll bet on CAA pre Oscars party but i feel like he’ll surprise us on turn up somewhere before that.
hopefully he’ll be able to film something this year because if not we might have to wait till 2026 for another film.

(Obviously everything I'm writing is my thoughts)
so about the contract renewel
Yes, because without him their career is over. The mediaplay yg did over the years for them is incredible.
If they renew they will go into hiatus for another two years and their comeback will be in the same period as BTS comeback 2026. Yg has been doing this since 2018: matching comebacks with the tannies 2018-2020-2022.
I don't know how much it good for them though because the next BTS comeback will be strong enough to rock the entire industry. Or BLACKPINK will go the same way as 2ne1 who yg disbanded their group to make bp debut. Now there will soon be the debut of Babymonster. If they don't renew the only ones who will continue making music will be Lisa and maybe Rose but I think Jisoo and Jennie will be full time influencers (Jennie said in an interview that she wants to get rid of everything that a kpop idol has)
I think jennie had hopes that the idol would be as successful as Euphoria and that would get her into Hollywood but the only thing that happened was she got a song "dedicated" to her by Abel during their time in Cannes
The girls are tired of this life and it shows throughout the tour. They lacked charisma and energy and many fans complained that the shows were too boring.
I'm starting to think they hate each other. A local present at coachella said that the girls were trying to shine more than the other and this is bad because they are a group not solo artists.
man the girls have good potential and I heard that baby monster has girls very young, it’s so weird, idk yg does it all the time, yeah they broke 2ne1 up and bp was born, as it seems like it of course, I just understand that why bts be the biggest boy group and why can’t bp be the biggest girl group respectively as long as they both deserve the title, and bts definitely have had a lot of comebacks. Like fake love and idol came out the same year, so bts are rlly active, even as soloist so there is a huge difference between how yg n hybe market and manage their groups
+
let’s not make assumptions if the girls hate e/o, they obviously can’t be affectionate with e/o all the time.
