If this isn't a man who is so many shades of excited to meet his boyfriend's gaffer's mum and pump her for every single embarrassing story he can about Ted, I will eat my tinfoil hat.
ALSO. Can we note that his notebooks are closed? This isn't for the book.
This is completely for his own edification.
Plus Ted was worried about his mom staying home during the Manchester game because he knew Trent would spend time with her. He has no clue what stories she'll tell him now.

Current obsession - the updates and changes to the Diaz house!!
Eddie has a new painting over the mantle
and a new one next to the front door in red and blue. The fire engine/truck on its side on the table has me feeling a certain type of way - it feels like a nod to the ladder truck explosion that crushed Bucks leg, but it could also be foreshadowing for this season as well - we'll have to wait and see how things shake out!
The water painting has moved again - its now on the wall next to Christophers room ----------------------------------------------------vvv
and these have appeared on the sitting room wall where that water painting has been seen previously - are they making you scream??
what if I showed you this picture from 4x14
are you screaming like I am now?? Becasue I am very very feral about that picture appearing - pennyfarthing megaphone mans megaphone is pointing right at Eddie nad Bucks ears ini these scenes - saying ... at the top of ones voice - the universe is screaming at you and you refuse to listen!!!!
There are new band posters in Christophers room - the Lunadeers one under the solar system mobile. The name Lunadeers is a fun one - its obviously a play on the band the Lumineers - a made up name, but is a play on the concept of illuminating something - the idea of lighting the way in the darkness - illuminating is also the idea of becoming enlightened and seeing things differently or in a new light.
Luna = moon and is obviously connected to the space theming, but there is also the deers part of the name - deers are crepuscular animals - they are more active at night - in the darkness - under the moon
I'm also clowning is a reference to Buddie because the 'mun' in Edmundo is pronounced moon and a male deer is a Buck - so moon-deer - Eddie and Buck - a nod to Christophers two fathers rom the set and props departments!
Then there is also the Violet Brothers poster on the back of his door - heavily leaning wards the yellow and blue colour ways, there is also the fact that violet is a really interesting colour - it represents future hopes and dreams, imagination and sensitivity!
Not to mention all the watery themes things I've already spotted - mostly what seem to be camp stickers on his wardrobe and the pinboard
theres also a 'boom' sticker - which I love as a possible nod to Christophers roast of Buck in 6x01, but also as a nod to the explosives buck and Eddie have dealt with as part of their job - the grenade and the rocket from this episode plus the foreshadowing of the ship going boom!
The cool cool cool sticker is giving me Abed from community vibes (a queer coded character in his own right!)
and Christophers room has now gained a plant - it moves around a bit - its on the table next to the lamp by the window, then its in a basket next to the table, but its possibly a nod to Christopher growing up!
#this got rambly#but I'm obsessed with the props and set departments#911 spoilers#911 abc#eddie diaz#evan buckley#christopher diaz#meta#long post#set meta (sort of)

What about silly pricenik?
This is great i love sharing dumb headcanons ive got hehe. Heres some i have in my notes! These are most of them! Rest is under the cut there was...a lot 0_0
Nikolai
Despite being a fantastic pilot, Nik has a horrible sense of direction on the ground. He once got lost in a massive tesco's and refused to ask for help, claiming he was “scouting the exits.”
Nik insists on making every departure as dramatic as possible. Helicopter pickups? Cue the music. Leaving a room? He slams the door just right so it echoes.
Nik’s sense of humour is as dry as the desert, and he can deliver the most absurd statements with a completely straight face. Soap once believed for an entire day that Nik had a pet bear named Boris. Nik gifts Soap a stuffed bear with a note that says his name is Boris for secret santa two years later too.
Nik collects tiny, odd souvenirs from missions—a bottle cap, a rusty coin, a piece of scrap metal. His pockets are always jingling, and Price swears he’s part magpie.
Nik is surprisingly good at poker and never misses a chance to challenge the team. His poker face is so good that even Ghost has a hard time reading him.
He won’t admit it, but Nik has a soft spot for cheesy romantic comedies. He does drag Price to watch the opera, theatre or musicals and Price loves it because Nik is so happy there however, Price refuses to watch a single rom-com "Sorry, Nik, love can only do so much."
Nik can MacGyver his way out of almost anything. Once built a makeshift flare gun out of a broken torch and a rubber band. It worked—just barely.
Nik’s rucksack is always bursting with random things—extra batteries, half a loaf of bread, a flask, and tools for a job no one asked for. Somehow, it all ends up being useful.
He has an entire list of mission rituals he swears by, like tapping the side of the helicopter before takeoff or wearing the same lucky socks on dangerous ops.
His voice booms like he’s addressing a crowd. Gaz calls him “The Walking Megaphone.”
Nik has a habit of keeping little mementos—like the first time Price scrawled mission coordinates on a scrap of paper for him, which Nik still keeps in his jacket pocket.
He once made a playlist for Price that was entirely love songs in Russian, claiming, “It’s all about the vibe.” (yeah, sure nik. Price looked up some of the lyrics and blushed furiously before finding nik and making some of the lyrics come to life...)
Even in the worst situations, Nik finds a way to keep spirits up. He once cracked a joke mid-firefight that had even Ghost smirking.
Wherever they go, Nik seems to have a knack for charming the locals. Whether it’s his booming laugh or his easy smile, he somehow ends up with an invitation to dinner by the end of every mission.
NikPrice
Nik insists on picking Price up for missions in the most inconvenient places possible (when he can)—like rooftops, narrow alleyways, or middle-of-nowhere fields. Price grumbles about it every time, but Nik calls it “adventure pickup.” The boys love it just because it annoys Price.
They’ve worked together so long they don’t need words to communicate during a mission. Nik swears it’s because they’re “two halves of one operational brain,” to which Price always mutters, “God help us all.”
Nik once stole Price’s hat during a mission and refused to return it until Price called him “the best pilot in the world.” Price begrudgingly complied, but Nik still teases him about it.
Nik has a habit of doing absurdly dramatic favours for Price, like flying halfway across the world to deliver a forgotten map. When asked why, he always shrugs and says, “For you, John? Anything.” (Price eventually realises its not cause Nik can, its cause Nik wants to and he finally puts them both out of their misery and asks him out. Price thinks this will stop Nik, it in fact does not)
Their comms during missions are half professional, half flirting banter. Soap and Gaz are constantly muting their headsets to avoid laughing during stealth ops. Ghost is just used to it at this point.
Despite the chaos of missions, Nik has a way of carving out small, quiet moments with Price—whether it’s a cup of tea at dawn or sitting shoulder-to-shoulder in silence on a rooftop, sharing a flask.
Nik isn’t overly demonstrative in professional settings, but his gestures still speak volumes—brushing a speck of dust off Price’s shoulder without a pause from Price, straightening his collar too, or resting a hand on his lower back as they move through crowded spaces. When it's just them or them and the team though? Nik is all over Price, extremely touchy, does not care if Price is bright red or the team make fun of them for acting like teenagers. He is touching his Captain.
Nik knows every scar on Price’s body and has a story for each one. Price doesn’t like talking about his injuries, but with Nik, he doesn’t mind. Nik tells him his own tales in return, trading battle marks like old soldiers comparing medals.
Nik insists Price’s coat is impractical for cold weather and always drapes his heavier jacket over Price’s shoulders without asking. Price protests half-heartedly, but he never takes it off, it smells like Nik and leather, what's he supposed to do? Not tuck his nose into the collar and smell the familiar scent of his partner?
Their eyes do most of the talking. On missions, one look is all it takes to communicate everything—from reassurance to affection to, occasionally, “I’m going to kill you for that stunt later.”

at the end of the day
summary: after another failed date, you run into bucky barnes on the way home and the two of you get caught in the rain
warnings: fluff, dancing in the rain, talks about love, romcom vibes i hope, pining bucky
wc: 1.7k
a/n: inspired by the talk @jadedvibes and i had a while ago heheh. men suck sometimes but we gotta put our trust in rom-communism and that everything will work out at the end :)
How many horrible dates will you go on to realize that you're never going to have your happy ending?
The thought plagued you as you walked down the street. You were going to give up on love completely this time, you promised yourself.
You were deep in thought when a soft voice interrupted your pitiful reverie.
“Oh?” you said, eyes widening in surprise. “Bucky, what are you doing here?”
A light chuckle filled the air between the two of you before he spoke. “I live in this neighbourhood, doll.”
You mentally smacked yourself on the forehead. “Oh, right. I forgot.”
His mouth curved into an amused grin before he took a good look at you. “What are you doing here?” he asked, but he had a feeling he already knew the answer.
You looked down at your outfit, one so different from the usual attire you have on at the Tower. “Isn’t it kinda obvious?” you teased, though your voice’s laced with defeat. “I was on a date.”
He hummed, “And how’d it go?”
“Let’s just say there isn’t going to be a second one,” you answered, finishing off with a sigh.
Bucky winced. “M’sorry it didn’t go well.”
“You don’t have to be sorry,” you said, “It… it happens a lot, I’m used to it.”
His brow creased in confusion. “Used to what?”
Did you really have to lay out your shitty love life in front of Bucky Barnes?
You twiddled your thumb nervously. “Going on bad dates,” you stated, “Never finding anything meaningful from them. Always going home with the feeling of disappointment. You know, the usual.”
Bucky frowned. He never realized you had problems with the whole… dating thing. At least you didn’t look like it whenever he saw you around the Tower. You were a joy to be around—always surrounded by people. How could you possibly have problems with dating? Half the department was already in love with you. (Not that Bucky was keeping records on names or anything. Maybe a little.) If you had problems with love, then what about someone like him?
Now that you voiced your problem out loud, you felt a bit better. It’s not that you couldn’t find someone—there’s plenty of someones out there—but none of them made you feel special or seen. That spark you were always looking for seemed to be nonexistent.
Maybe the problem was that you were too picky, your standard was too high—too unrealistic.
Or maybe you were the thing you feared the most.
“Sometimes, I feel like there’s something wrong with me,” you confessed. “No, there must be something wrong with me. Maybe the stuff you see in movies does happen, just not to me because no one wants to put in that effort with me. Maybe, I’m unlovable.”
You never thought you would be confessing all this to him.
Bucky took a minute to digest your words before speaking again. “Hey,” he said softly. “Don’t you dare blame yourself. There’s nothing wrong with you.”
Looking into his eyes, you wondered if he truly meant it, or if he’s just being kind like he always was. And as if he could read your mind, “I mean it,” he added, reassuring you.
“Then why…”
“These people you go on dates with,” he jumped in, “They don’t even realize how lucky they are. You’re amazing,” he said, a gentle smile spreading across his face, “And if they don’t see that or don’t make you feel like you’re on top of the world, then I guess they weren’t that great to begin with. They don’t deserve someone as wonderful as you.”
You were speechless. Bucky and you weren’t strangers but calling him a friend seemed a bit too… intimate. You don’t even have his number for Christ’s sake. The two of you were just two people who worked in the same building and saw each other frequently and talked here and there. But why did his words mean more to you than any pep-talk your friends gave you?
“I-l—” you stuttered, “I don’t know what to say. I’m honoured that you think so highly of me.”
If you only knew what Bucky thought of you. He doesn’t really know when it happened, this growing feeling inside of him, but seeing you had become his favourite part of the job. He always tried to spark up small talk (much to everyone’s surprise) but the both of you were busy, always getting whisked away mid-conversation.
Today was the first time he saw you outside of work, in his neighbourhood nonetheless. Perhaps this was his chance—finally some alone time with you. He felt like there were a million things to say, but of course, it came out wrong, as it always does. “I always think about you.” When you raised an eyebrow at him, he corrected himself, “I-I mean I always think highly of you,” he corrected, a tinge of pink evident on his cheek.
A small chuckle escaped from you, and you had to look down bashfully, trying your best to hide your flusteredness. I always think about you.
You wondered why you never paid more attention to the Avenger who always had business in your department.
“That’s really sweet of you to say. If I’m being honest, I was genuinely ready to give up on love tonight,” you said with a small laugh.
Bucky swallowed. “Loo—” Before he could finish his sentence, something wet landed on top of his forehead. Then another one. And another one. It had started to rain. He could have sworn that wasn’t the predicted forecast tonight.
The two of you looked up, letting the steady gentle rain hit the surfaces of your skin. It was probably a good idea to find shelter, maybe stand underneath a roof for the time being until the unexpected summer rain went away.
But the two of you just stood there, completely still, looking ridiculous to onlookers. And then you bursted into a fit of laughter. “Sorry, it’s just… I always imagined what it would be like to be stuck in a storm.”
He grinned. “And how is it?” he yelled through the pitter-patter.
“Hmm. Not as romantic as I thought it’ll be,” you noted amusingly.
Bucky met your eyes for a moment, then swallowed a breath. “Dance with me?” he asked, extending a hand towards you.
You raised a brow, heart skipping a beat at his words. You would be lying if you said the hopeless romantic in you never imagined yourself in this position multiple times. You just never thought it would be with Bucky Barnes.
Taking his hand, he led you with small slow steps.
“You must’ve done this a lot back in your days,” you teased playfully.
Connecting his eyes with yours, he confessed, “This is the first time I’ve danced with someone in the rain.”
Bringing you in and out, and then lifting your arm to twirl you around while the water rippled beneath your feet, it felt like you were suddenly transported elsewhere. Like a movie you had seen on screen that had you swooning. Or a novel you had read late into the night with a gigantic smile on your face. You almost expected some low jazz to start playing soon. But even if it didn’t, it would’ve been fine, because you had the soft glow of moonlight peeking out from behind the clouds, the summer rain, and Bucky with you. It was already enough to set the scene.
He looked particularly boyish tonight with his hair sticking to his forehead. You had the urge to sweep the strands away.
You let out a small yelp when Bucky dipped you down before pulling you back up so you were pressed into his chest. You were glad the sound of raindrops masked your beating heart.
He was a bit rusty, he knew that. It has been over seventy-years since he danced with someone. He couldn’t believe how you would think no one wanted to put in the effort with you. He would dance with you in the rain all the time if that’s what you wanted. Would probably do anything you asked of him, if he was being honest.
You’re not a very good dancer, you had to admit. But Bucky was leading you through the whole thing, even smiling down at you when you accidentally stepped on his foot.
You wondered how many people this beautiful and charming being of a man had swept off their feet before. Hopefully, he still had space in his heart for you. Because you were completely wooed.
As the rain slowed down and sky started to clear ever so slightly, you realized that the spark you were always complaining about not feeling—it was here, in this very moment, ignited from the touches between the two of you. It was there the moment you took his hand. Giving him another sneaky glance, your eyes lit up like a thousand stars.
Maybe the right person was in front of you all along.
Bucky doesn’t know how long the two of you stood there in the aftermath, looking into each other's eyes. It’s the brightest thing in the city, he thought.
Moments later, you removed yourself from him. “Well, the rain stopped.”
“It certainly did,” he said, sounding faintly amused.
“I guess I should get going,” you said, though you were still lingering around.
Bucky, who was soaked to the bones, asked, “Should I take you home?”
You shook your head. “I’m okay. My place is only a few stations from here. Thank you for offering though.” Maybe next time.
Before you completely escaped from his vision, he shouted your name, causing you to pause in your steps and look over your shoulder. “I hope you’re not giving up on love.”
You bit the inside of your cheek, trying to fight back a smile.
How could you?
Bucky Barnes gave you a million reasons to believe in love again.

2024 watch list part 5
The Rebound - This is a fun pulp but not a lot more. It didn’t really seem to know what it wanted to be and suffered for that in the end. The ending is ass. 3/5
HIStory 4: Close to you - Trope city. I enjoyed the non brother husband pairing in this and also the friendship between the three elder leads was a lot of fun. This really comes with so many TWs though so be careful before you watch. 3/5 (13/8/24)
Ossan’s Love - You will like this or you won’t and I don’t think there’s an in between. Fortunately I loved this. It’s not a taxing watch but it does manage to pack character depth and heart into every inch of story. Haruta is a gentle soul with zero like skills and Maki is a mature but troubled younger counter. It’s very Japanese and you’ll like that or you won’t but I think it’s worth a go. 4/5 (14/8/24)
This love doesn’t have long beans - If you like Pon & Sailub then this is very enjoyable. But if you don’t know them then it’s mostly a paper thin plot and some sex. A good brain off fluff watch or if you’re looking for Mame style horny but without the trauma and rape. 3/5 (23/8/24)
We Best Love: Fighting Mr 2nd - Like with the first one I just found it fine. The chemistry of the leads is very good and they sell the show really. Zero idea what that nonsense with the second couple and their various MH disorders was. I’m really not a fan of slapping disorders onto characters in place of actually giving them development. 3/5 (26/8/24)
4Minutes - I was glued to this right from the start. It’s a BoC production so it’s beautiful to look at and the acting is high quality. This’ll be a fantastic binge watch for anyone looking for an excellently acted, well done sorta sci-fi. I’d have given this a five but I thought some stuff felt very rushed and we could have either done with a ten episode block or less time spent on one characters 4minute t/l. 4/5 (13/9/24)
The Trainee - Much like, another recent OffGun show, Cooking Crush this show was much more about its characters, and their personal development and progress, than it was about the romance of the two leads. For the most part I enjoyed this but it also felt like it didn’t quite stick the landing. I’m a big proponent of slice of life style stories this wasn’t really quite that but it also wasn’t a heavily plotted rom-com style story either. This was really just about community, self-esteem and personal growth. The cast in this were all round incredible and the intern friend group were absurdly easy to love. 3/5 (15/9/24)
Sunset X Vibes - Let’s be real; you watch this for MosBank and that’s exactly what you get. MosBank. This isn’t 𝘲𝘶𝘪𝘵𝘦 as forgettable as Big Dragon but it’s close. The first half is fun and then it realises it’s run out of plot and just sort of doesn’t know where it’s going and adds some great kissing. The sub couples are sort of fun. But they were so sporadic in characterisation that they were sort of impossible to fully enjoy for anything but nice kissing. As with Big Dragon this was fine and I enjoyed it but I can’t really tell you anything much about it apart from MosBank. 2 ½/5 (15/9/24) (Also there’s heavily implied mpreg in the special episode. So that’ll be enough for this show to live on in fanfic.)
To My Star - I’m very hit or miss on KBL. Often it veers to melodramatic for me. This definitely is maudlin and a little depressing but it isn’t over dramatic so is a more tolerable kind of melo for me. Overall I did enjoy this, its leads were absorbing and enjoyable to watch. I do think a little more could have been done to establish them falling for one another as it did feel a little quick. 3 ½/5 (18/9/24)
Mr Mitsuya’s planned feeding - Just lovely. Couldn’t have come from anywhere but Japan and it’s beautiful for that. Carefully examines age, status and how hopes, dreams and wants shift as those things change. You’ll be okay with the age gap or you won’t, there isn’t anything predatory here it’s just a sweet age gap romance. 4/5 (22/9/24)
The On1y One - Absolutely perfect slow burn. Examines the fleeting nature of youth whilst serving us an achingly sweet, slow burn love between two young boys. Don’t watch this if you don’t enjoy slow but do watch this if you enjoy excellently crafted characters and beautiful cinematography. 4/5 (25/9/24)
You are my lover friend - This is a thirty episode het friends to lovers cdrama and I loved every bloody second. This wasn’t bogged down with stupid dramas,to stop ML & FL getting together, instead it was just a realistic look at all the reasons it’s very hard to go from very best friends to lovers. All the side cast were excellent there was a clear overarching plot weaved into the romance. I just loved it. 5/5 (6/10/24)

Hi, I love your analyses and your fics! 💕Especially that Eureka Seven AU man ngl it lives in my head and starts playing in my local theaters every other night at 2 AM, but *clears throat* I'm getting off topic lol :D do you have a bakudeku fic/authors rec list?
I'm honored you read the Eureka Seven one!
Good Bakudeku authors... the truth is, there are SO MANY. Just in general, and so many that are really, truly excellent. I have begun consuming more and more fic lately as I feel the itch of the subtext of what's happening in the manga rapidly becoming text and just plain consuming me, but many of the individual stories I've read can be GREAT as a story but perhaps not so great as a canon-faithful representation of Bakudeku - so I'm not entirely sure what kind of Bakudeku you're asking for ("fun and good story" versus "horny vignette" versus "that's totally Katsuki and Izuku.")
Also, like, for several of these authors, their Bakudeku portrayals evolved as the series progressed and we all learned more about these characters and the varnish of what BNHA pretends to be (superhero stock shonen!) peeled off to show what it actually is (The newest generation of something that should never have been domesticated now outgrowing the limits of the modern genre.) This is always good to keep in mind when looking at the dates of each work published.
Um, it's hard to pick just a few, and even harder when there's no specific direction about what TYPE. So here's a scattershot off the top of my head:
Me. My work. Read Mundane Crimes, Public Displays of Affection and I Want What I Don't Deserve. Those actually have some substance to them. The rest are kind of whatever, but you may still find them fun.
Kickass AUs and All-Rounders
chymerical is my favorite author on this list. They can do anything. I care about sports now because of chymerical. There's your fuckin' fadeaway.
young_crone - some are truly Bakudeku and some are just great stories that are using familiar names. Read all of 'em.
SmartiMart - Variant Edition is a sweeping epic and fascinating enough that the Bakudeku isn't actually its primary draw for me. Please also read Where in the World is Marigold? It's not Bakudeku, but I love it. SmartiMart is clever, inventive, and sometimes so much of a romantic that it makes me go, "woah, now! That's a bit much!" but in the best way.
iphido - this author has only one work for bakudeku, and it is worth it.
nicc - bite-sized sweet scenes, though many are very NSFW. Consistently excellent.
pikahlua - Dragonheart. this is your kick in the pants to finish those scenes, Pika.
Romantic Comedies
qodqodqod - Cringe comedy where love always, always, always prevails and bakudeku can't out-stupid their way out of it. Great job of not making the miscommunication, or lack of communication, a bore or overdone past what it needs to be.
heartsinhay - the cringe comedies are named that for a reason.
Darker Stuff
rironomind - apparently published something new earlier this year and I missed it??? DAMN! Existential, experimental, melancholic, high concept, fantastic. Rom's work is mostly in this category because it tends to throw curveballs at the reader. This is the category that just felt the most right by its vibes.
bkdkink - Lemonhead specifically.
Roadtripwithlucifer (read their new stuff too) - horny, but focused and full, full, full of ennui and anger and love and grief. It's the confidence of handling the last four that makes these works shine.
Surveycorpsjean - hit or miss for me personally, but always well done.
majjale - always great work; sometimes hit-or-miss for me personally on the bakudeku.

Wanna read my new series?
Hello! Hope you're all well ^-^ So, you know how I had to put fic on the back burner for various reasons including publishing new original works? WELL I'm rapid-releasing five books in the next six months starting in September. Whee~ This time, I can send free advanced reader copies in the hopes people might post about the book or review it around release. Some of you have enjoyed my writing for years, so I wanted to at least offer it for those of you who might be interested. If you'd rather read a sample first, private message me and I'll send you the first few chapters. I know some of you are only interested in my bughead stuff and that's totally okay. I've enjoyed being a part of this community and am still planning on working on fic when I can. I even hired one of our talented bughead fandom artists for the cover on the first book in the series. My new books are steamy rom-coms in first person POV, past tense. New pen name. New vibe. But maybe some old friends/fic peeps would like to come along on this new adventure? If so, please see this link. In the meantime, enjoy the sneak peek of the cover. I can't tag the artist here, but she's amazing!
I welcome any guesses to what this story's about before you read the blurb haha. Regardless, I hope you have an amazing day!

it is a Saturday and I am high on caffeine and sunlight - time to make a miscellaneous "comics I love" list! (Note: I'm grouping by layout, not country of origin)
Manga:
Aharen-san wa harakenai (Aharen-san is unfathomable): gag-comedy about a very stoic school girl and the equally stoic classmate who wildly misinterprets what she does. (Very sweet, absurd humor, a bit of romance, you will learn so much trivia)
Angel Densetsu (Legend of an Angel): gag-comedy with some martial arts tropes. A guy with the face of a thug and the heart of a saint stumbles into many a misunderstanding (and gains a few true companions along the way) - Bonus: you get to see the artist grow as the series goes on
Kouishou Radio (After effects Radio) - a collection of horror vignettes around a "God of Hair" which start coming together slowly to a very "oooh Fuck" effect.
Seihantai Kimi wa Boku (You and I are polar opposites) - very sweet and funny, cozy rom-com slice of live. A gyaru and a stoic loner fall in mutual love and navigate this first relationship together, helped by their friend group.
Radiant - action-fantasy. Imagine One Piece with witches, an inquisition, curses and it taking place in the sky. The MC is a lil shit for 1 1/2 volumes but my god if you like shounen-style fantasy-action, you're in for a treat.
Webtoons:
Cursed Princess Club - fantasy-romance-dramedy. "you're ugly" having her heart broken by these words, the sweet but not traditionally attractive youngest princess of the pastel kingdom runs into the forest and stumbles upon a club full of cursed princess. Deals with finding self-love in many, many forms. It is also "send screenshots to friends"-HILARIOUS.
The Dummy's Dummy - urban fantasy with horror elements. A monster of the week style story with a psychic girl and the monster-fighting marionette at her side. Has a lovely goth vibe.
... oh no the caffeine has ran out, so I'll add a few shorter entries:
Webcomics:
Fairmeadow (fairmeadowcomic.com): ex-soldier Orc meets pacifist commune. Hilarity(?) ensues. If you like dissecting interpersonal conflicts and gorgeous nature drawings, you will have a field day (hah).
Tiger, tiger (tigertigercomic.com): seafaring adventures with eldritch monsters, some romance and a great cast of characters (absolute nerd for sea sponges, a pirate with very healthy self-esteem, a mustachioed himbo and an anxious boye who does not deserve any of this)
Other comics:
Beautiful Darkness - hey, wanna remember how fucked-up yet whimsical childhood was?? NO??? well too bad, get shrinked to 2 cm size and try not to die in the wilderness.
Une semaine the bonté - surrealist collage work. Makes no sense and I love it. It feels like someone is pouring melting butter over my brain.
Hitman (DC) - vampires, superman, family drama back in ireland, zombie seals, demons and a surprisingly hard-hitting (and surprisingly funny) comic series. Gritty, grimy, tasteless in its humor... and very unapologetically so. Very of its time, but also very entertaining and varied.

Sorry if you've been asked this a million times, but who are your favorite couples from the last couple years?
Congratulations Anon! This ask is AMAZING and I've never been asked it before! Shocking right?? :P
My favorite K-Drama Couples 2023- Spring 2024
NOTE: I tried to include 2022 but my list got too long :)
Moving (Bong-Seok & Hee-Soo, Joo-Won & Hye-Won & Doo-Shik & Mi-Hyun): It's very obvious by this list how much I love this drama and how many blorbo-from-my-shows it created for me. And I know I'm only reviewing couples, but I was blown away by this drama. I don't even LIKE superhero shows, but I made an exception for this one and I'm so glad I did. If you like character development and plays on good vs. evil, I highly rec this! Bong-Seok and Hee-Soo are one of my favorite couples EVER and I loved the softness and epic romance of Joo-Won & Hye-Won. (And we all know that scene at the rainy window with Bong-Seok and Hee-Soo). These couples are really EVERYTHING.
Tale of the Nine Tailed: 1938 (Lee-rang & Yeo-Hee): This is the only time I've ever watched a season two and liked it better than season one. It's probably because it featured my favorite tragic half fox Lee Rang and gave him a love line with a mermaid. The two are SO sweet together---SOB!
Tell me That You Love Me (Mo-Eun & Jin-Woo): Wow. Maybe one of the softest couples I've ever seen in existence. Just watching them together was like a warm blanket in front of a cozy fireplace. I didn't like the ending choice which is a shame, but the drama was super well done and I still think people should watch it. There is also a very cute high school couple too!
The Eighth Sense (Jae-Won & Ji Hyun): not to be dramatic (just kidding!) this is the best bl kdrama I've ever seen. Literally this is it! I don't even want to tell you about the couple because I want you to just watch it! I'm dying for the writer to make another one because we need more queer media like this one!
Crash Course In Romance (Haeng-Seon & Chi-Yeol): Give me a noona romance featuring a man who has not felt warmth in 1000 years (ok not literally but this dude needs to have a warm meal made by an amazing lady!) This drama fell apart at the end (this seems to be a theme this year) but the couple makes it worth watching.
King The Land (Gu-Won & Sa-Rang): If you're looking for a low stakes, totally fluffy, rom com with TONS of chemistry (featuring MY BIAS!), King the Land is for you. Amazing skinship, kisses and just like a really fun duo to watch. Plot? Not so much but there are a billion good moments-- just look at the tags: They are full of cuteness.
Love After Divorce Season 4 (Benita & Jerome): Listen, I know I'm cheating by putting a reality tv show on this list but if you're in the mood for one, I highly recommend this season (it's on Netflix). Benita and Jerome will steal your heart and they are still together! I'm rooting for them. <3
See you in my 19th Life (Ji-Eum & Seo-Ha, Da-Hoon & Cho-Won): My bias Shin Hye Sun kills it in this drama featuring past life romance. Honestly it's not fair because this drama is totally my vibe so I'm obviously going to love the mains. But when a drama gives you more than one love line and they are both interesting and lovely?? Chef's Kiss!
Dr. Slump (Jeong-Woo & Ha-Neul): This drama TOTALLY fell apart at the end and left us all very disappointed, but that's not because our leads weren't a perfect couple! They bonded over mental illness and even took their meds together. Communication: check. Comfort/Healing: check. Chemistry: check!
The Story of Park's Marriage Contract (Yun-Woo & Tae-Ha). You probably don't know this but I've been following Bae In Hyuk's career since we was in silly little web dramas. Seeing him as a lead is really wild! To be fair, he's not nearly the actor that Lee Se Young is, but do we care about that when there's a time slip romance drama featuring a historical lady who's been thrown into the future and has to fake marry someone who looks just like her de*d husband for reasons??
Thank you so much for this ask - it was super fun!! Maybe I should do 2022 next?? :D

underrated hilson scenes from season 3, by episode (1-9), from someone who's watching for the first time:
(spoilers below)
1: House takes 2 patients, the dad who drove his wheelchair into a pool and the yoga teacher
Wilson reviewing cases with Cuddy FOR House because he knows exactly what House will say (proved the minute House shows up and repeats what Wilson said about the cases)
House brooding and Wilson psychoanalysing him almost perfectly (10/10, very domestic)
"I'm not going away" when House ignores Wilson's nagging and exasperation (ALSO domestic)
Wilson watching House and flirting with him while House (absolutely NO heart eyes involved, sure jan) attempts to skateboard
House turning up to Wilson's office and being emotionally vulnerable unprompted
Cuddy deferring to Wilson like Wilson is House's medical proxy (very married, I give this an 8/10 for adorableness)
Wilson trying to orchestrate an intervention into House's self harming behaviours (he cares so much it's so sweet)
2: House figures out the kid who thinks he's being abducted by aliens, kid's cells ended up being merged with a another embryo due to IVF
Wilson monitoring House's behaviours (like his running patterns)
Wilson teasing about House's "musk",,, which the phrasing.... hm ^.^
Wilson teaming up with Cuddy to harass House about his health
Cameron AND Cuddy both deferring to Wilson like he's House's husband or medical proxy or something 👀
James "that's my wife" Wilson making loving fun of House to his face but telling Cuddy off for speaking about House wrongly
more psychoanalysis from Wilson, they're adorable when this happens ngl, it's like they're speaking their own secret language, and the mischief and joy in House's eyes whenever Wilson does it is sweet
Wilson trying to teachable moment his husband with some light and minor scolding (it's because he cares)
House LISTENING to Wilson's request that House go for a run but not going running with Wilson just to make a point (House can be a little shit, but just needs the marriage certificate at this point)
The iconic "I was worried your wings would melt" scene to the song "Gravity" by John Mayer, with warmth and heart eyes included (straight out of a scene from a rom-com, the fuck?)
3: the researcher who wanted euthanasia
one of my favourite things is when Wilson and House are chatting/bantering and one of the ducklings comes in, it always gives the whole 'kids coming into mom and dad's room' vibes for some reason and makes me giggle a bit
Wilson being the only person House will do mundane things for without (much) question (like passing the KOH while his husband Wilson is doing stain histology)
I can't get over Wilson's looks of love that sneak in in different scenes, he has this exasperated 'why do I love you' kind of look that ends a lot of his scenes with House
4: the autism eye worm episode
firstly the way the episode was structured drew some pretty interesting parallels between House and the autistic kid (the whole give me back my carpets thing was glaringly obvious)
House bringing the ducklings to Wilson's office during the whole carpet debacle, Wilson just sighing and nagging him for it but not saying much
Foreman going to Wilson to get help with the biopsy was kinda cute bc of the whole shared custody of the ducklings vibe Wilson and House give off
bonus: House and the patient (the autistic kid) communicating on the same wavelength when House dosed himself with laughing gas to get the kid to trust him (the dad: "it was like a conversation")
Wilson helping House with the biopsy lab work even if it wasn't necessary, Cameron passing instruments over the back of a very high House father-daughter style
Wilson taking note of House's spiel about being Jealous of the kid's ability to ignore social niceties and using it to help House get his carpets back (so close House, maybe get an autism diagnosis yourself king)
* Wilson speaking * , House in the background: *rapt attention*
Wilson working slowly on Cuddy to give House his carpets back was so cute ngl, he even offered to pay $1,000 to carpet the room himself
the boys judging people together awwww
5: the accidental married siblings episode
House literally in the middle of his differential diagnosis when he senses spots Wilson chatting with a pretty girl, gets jealous immediately grills the ducklings on the girl's identity before leaving his office to scare her off confront Wilson about it in the middle of their conversation like a jealous boyfriend even when Cameron kept trying to get the differential back on track (it's literally so married, House being protective of Wilson is everything actually)
Cameron's sapphic joke about her and the nurse tho was a welcome surprise but where's her wlw ships
House CONTINUING to talk about the girl Wilson was chatting with unprompted even after being relieved of his jealousy by Wilson
The ducklings teasing/predicting the pattern of House and Wilson's sweet little domestics gives so much married with kids energy I,,, don't even know where to begin
House, at the height of his romance/jealousy, breaking into the pretty girl's locker to see if Wilson's lying about their entanglement (irl it's red flag behaviour but we're lucky this is toxic old man yaoi so they get a pass)
House hopping over the balcony to Wilson's office mid-differential to ask his opinion and poke Wilson about the pretty girl (he's still jealous)
"My marriages were so crappy I was spending all my time with you. Your [House's] real fear is me having a good relationship." SO close Wilson, maybe take this back a couple steps and realise what,,, that might sound like. (DENILE IS A RIVER IN EGYPTTT)
literally five seconds after Wilson says this, House verbally prods him by suggesting a "big romantic weekend in the Poconos" as a way of asking if he was going with the girl, Wilson assumes House is possibly asking him to the Poconos (I WONDER WHY )
House always trusting Wilson with being tactful and sweet enough with patients that they agree to his diagnostic tests is an underrated scene, it speaks volumes of the depths between them he trusts Wilson with something so important
exasperated flirty banter arguing but they're passionate in the hallways (they just need to make out filthy style)
6: lung cancer patient, House gets arrested
Wilson being the one to pick House up from the police station, chastising him all the way for his behaviour but still giving him an update on the case House will encounter when he gets to the hospital (Wilson & House's offices seem to have thin walls to each other, do with that what you will 👀)
House stealing Wilson's food, and chatting about the kids ducklings they're in love ur honour (with more loving teasing and making fun of each other )
Wilson and House and their domestics :D 🫶🏻
the scene where Wilson lies about prescribing house with Vicodin when the forgeries come up (his self-sacrifical streak when it comes to house is at at least 2 times by this point, the lengths he goes to protect house... :') )
7: the episode where House wakes up a guy from a vegetative state and needs info from him to cure his son
Wilson protecting House even when he fights with House about it & feels the personal stress of protecting him,,, (I think there's a name for that,, 4 letter word that starts with L and ends with an E?)
House and Wilson's argument this episode being whether love is conditional or not but then proving the existence of unconditional love in Wilson's case
Wilson being in a bit of a spat with House but still lending his car to House AND then accompanying him on the road trip with vegetative state guy
the married bickering in the car while vegetative state guy is driving about how to help vegetative state guy, the vegetative state guy clearly feels like the third wheel in this scene because he asked "what is up with you two?" like it's couple's therapy
House evading the vegetative state guy's question of "ever love anybody else?" after mentioning Stacy, while Wilson's in the car with them, House bbg ur so obvious rn
Wilson when they got to the hotel for the vegetative state guy being pedantic about the guy's food on House's behalf without House even having to ask for the help
House keeping Wilson updated on his Vicodin amounts throughout the day like they're partners or something, pshhtttt
Wilson and House bickering some more but this time it's all soft and rom com warm in the hotel room, it's almost like the vegetative state guy wasn't even there for some moments
WILSON'S SPIEL ABOUT HOUSE BEING PRICKLY BC HE WANTS TO PROVE HE'S UNLOVED ... STRAIGHT OUT OF A FANFIC Y'ALL WTFF
literally his round about way of saying 'I love you unconditionally.' disgusting I need them to make out sloppy style rn
House and Wilson tag teaming this vegetative state mf for info felt so,,, Charles Xavier and Magneto (cherik) interviewing ppl for the X-Men coded
this episode House trades his dignity for info from vegetative state guy, and gets quite vulnerable (mostly in the knowledge the guy is gonna go back into a coma so it's safe) but is more than okay with Wilson knowing this deep dark info about himself (and is canonically the only person who gets this sort of info about House)
How House got into medicine!! Wilson is very rapt and at attention at this story spilling out (he also looked very delectable in this bit, surprised House didn't mop him up)
the heart eyes Wilson gives House after House shares his medicine origin story,,, I giggled fr they're sooo
the HEARTBROKEN LOOK that Wilson gives House when House asked him to get out of the hotel room ,,, Wilson saying no I can't even with them- and then it turns out to be because House is trying to PROTECT WILSON from legal charges for suggesting what he does to the vegetative state guy????? Wilson unquestionably creating an alibi for House by paying some guy some money in the casino to stand around with House's cane as an alibi?????? the protecting each other unquestionably even if they're upset with each other??? till death do us part, hello?????
"Maybe I don't want to push this till it breaks" House that's basically a love confession right there (admitting he doesn't want to push Wilson out of his life intentionally) the pink lighting behind Wilson the shot after??????
Wilson: "did you know [the police man] was talking to your (House's) team while we were away?" this.... guys. the married with kids... the energy is off the charts rn, Wilson worrying about the kids with House AWWW
House psychoanalysing Wilson this time, their secret language banter of care and love :D
"I don't think my enabling is anything you should be complaining about" oh boy maybe House ISNT gonna get the couch tonight?
House buying Wilson dinner unquestionably when the police freeze Wilson's accounts for not cooperating with police, this sort of protection is just,,, put a ring on it guys, I'd die for the homies but in combo with everything else this sort of devotion is crazy
8: the kid whose parents died and he had to take care of his siblings
Wilson gets advised that his protection of House is only delaying the inevitable because they impound his car and suspend his DEA number, Wilson only gets angry about it later when House is an ass
his response to this BTW is to just get Cameron, one of the kids, to do his prescriptions for him and take the bus, the lengths he is sacrificing for House is,, a lot but getting one of the kids to do his prescriptions, I know I've said this 20x but they're married your honour
the prescription thing is at GREAT PERSONAL COST by the way, his patients start doubting him and his job becomes a million times harder
tl;dr: they're married your honour
#hilson#idk if people enjoy these but I spent way too long on it to back down now#I love these fun little recap type things so it's my turn to contribute#House and Wilson TOTALLY do not take up rent space in my brain with Deadpool and Wolverine hanging out there too#anyway the list is mostly for me I do be binging House MD fr#malpractice md

There's so much going on in Queen of Tears that I had to go check if it's genre is supposed to be mystery or rom com.
Anyway here's a list of all the mysteries that my brain is now trying to resolve:
1. What happened between Hyun Woo and Hae In?? How did they go from being that in love and affectionate to this mess where they have no sense of what communication means?? Was it the family??? Was it having to live with Hae In's family that ruined it all because if that's the case this might be one of the more realistic portrayals of a relationship.
2. Is there a dead sibling? What's the deal with the mother?
3. What's the deal with the SL? He is clearly a sociopath with an obsession, but he's clearly playing some long game and is after way more than Hae In.
4. The chairman's girlfriend - woman has suspicious written all over her and at first I thought she was just after the money but there's something more, she keeps talking about the long game definitely has some connection to the sociopath and is sorta trying to separate the family.
5. Is kwak do yeon's wife evil??? If this turns out to be the case and that she is somehow associated with the scheming sociopath and girlfriend, this would hurt me cuz why they gotta do kwak do yeon like this all the time, do they look at his face and go yes, you have a puppy vibe, let's just put you through awful things each time?? Anyway she's definitely sus, definitely has some strange history in the US.
6. What happened with the chairman's older son?
7. Who is trying to kill the chairman?
I definitely feel like I am missing some of the smaller mysteries but for now these seem to be the major ones and it's already a lot in 3 eps lol.
#queen of tears#kdrama#All I know is I was happy until the SL showed up#and that I was like ew what is this behavior

Figured I'd introduce myself properly to this wonderful community! I am Ann (26). Primarily interested in exploring archetypes, symbols, and fairy tale elements plot-wise, as well as physical and mental health issues character-wise. I write fantasy and science fiction (and occasionally historical fiction).
About me:
Majored in Psychology and English with Creative Writing (English is my second language)
Writing is basically my lifeline, I get depressed if I don't do it
Infatuated with myths, legends, folklore—and history
Questionably obsessed with the mad genius trope [I blame Victor Frankenstein, Sherlock Holmes, and Gregory House for this]
In love with the sea and all things age of sail [I went for a swim during a black-clouded thunderstorm on a cold September afternoon once, that's how down bad I am]
Can't write a short story to save my life [you shall only find novels beyond this gate, traveler]
My WIPs:
Oh boy, I've got a lot of them, but I'll share the main ones briefly. [bonus, emojis for vibes lol]
The Sea Whisperer (finished, 122k words) 🌊⚓🌩️
Already have a post about this YA adventure fantasy (seek #The Sea Whisperer) and planning to add some more, but here's the premise once more:
The fishing village of Galacair has been the only home Earwyn’s ever known. Between the mysterious illness that plagues her and the villagers who consider her cursed, surviving gets harder with each dreary day. But there are whispers coming from the sea which ceaselessly beckon her, and an ominous vision of a calamity that haunts her dreams. Earwyn fears they could be a part of her illness too, and that madness has befallen her. The only one who seems to know something about it is Galacair’s lighthouse keeper, whose tower is as strange and remote as he is.
Wrote this story because I wanted to bring some awareness to PCOS syndrome and the difficulties of living with it. But also because of my aforementioned love for the sea, including tall ships, shanties, and magic.
I've been querying for this one for 6 months with no success. Likely to undergo new revisions/editing.
The King's Steward/The King's Embroiderer 🗡️❄️🔥
A loose retelling of a quite obscure Nenets fairy tale called Kotura, Lord of the Winds with a Skyrim-esque Scandinavian-inspired medieval setting. A sort of fire vs ice battle going on. Definitely in the YA range. Very likely to be a duology!
Aira Alderkvist knows she's destined to become the kingdom's best and most beloved embroiderer, in the court of the king. She met him once when she was a child, alone by the snow-clad woods, and no one believed her. But she will finally prove her skill and that her story was true at the upcoming obeisance.
In the capital city of Vallholm, Sorena Froradottir prepares to abandon her post as a steward imposed on her against her will, and flee. However, on the night of the king's obeisance where noblemen and commoners gather, jarl Ravnan Jarnsen unexpectedly usurps the throne. Sorena must decide between deserting the kingdom in the hands of a tyrant rumored to be using forbidden fire magic... or leave, and find a new life unburdened and free.
So far I have 18k words written on this and a detailed plan chapter by chapter, which I will hopefully stick to (doubtful).
To All the Royal Subjects in the Land (working title because this is too long and cringe?) 🍁🕸️🎭
This is basically a dream project for me, for I have always dreamed of writing fantasy comedy. Only, I played myself cause medieval-based comedy is hard as hell? Honestly, though, I absolutely love wracking my brain with it. You can't be a writer without being at least a little masochistic, I think.
This is an NA/Adult fantasy rom-com [Mrs Maisel meets Beauty and the Beast], and a gender-bent version of the Russian fairy tale The Princess Who Never Smiled, in which a clever traveling jestress who values her freedom above all faces a joyless Prince.
Soon after entering a kingdom where joy and laughter are forbidden, Sarai realizes she'll be forced to break a foul spell if she wants to leave. And she grudgingly agrees. But it promises to be no easy task when this withering kingdom is caught in endless autumn, the Prince's odd, mist-veiled castle seems to be crumbling each day, and his knights are ever-so eerily quiet.
Will likely share more about what this story features in other posts! This is currently sitting at 22.5k words.
Sentinel Chronicles Series 🚀🌌✨
This one is probably closest to my heart. My first project ever [started writing this series 7 years ago], and have a detailed plan for 5 books in total, with more spin-offs for a side character very likely to appear later.
The first book [Transcendence] is finished at 96k words, and the second is written halfway. Transcendence is Star Trek meets House MD adult science fiction. It's a space adventure with aspects of science mixed with philosophical elements and a dash of humor. I have a very found-family-centered theme here with the crew. And a (very) slow-burn romance that would spread over the 5 books.
The story follows eccentric science genius Ashton Axolem as he attempts to take on scientific issues beyond his understanding with the help of Doctor Amelia Harper, who, like everyone else, is convinced mixing madness with science will never result in anything good. But her close encounter with Axolem leaves her questioning her understanding of both madness and goodness.
Will probably be blogging a lot about this one because I've had years to form it in my mind lol
Thanks for reading, that was a bit long! Hopefully, I set up some sort of tag system for all those WIPs soon.

Can it be that Potter and Black are so emotionally repressed that they are using pranking as a form of flirting? Previous Chapter Here. Next Chapter Here
(moodboard graciously created by @mochie85)
Loki had spent most of his evening and night scanning the files for his new friend, the receptionist Kimberly, and apparently her friend, Annie. The task was long, tedious, and dreadfully boring, but he did it gladly with a small smile on his face. Memories of his time spent with you, laughing, and playing in the bubbles, made the time go by quickly. Those moments and the reassuring note from Kimberly gave the god hope that things were okay between you and him, yet how you left gave Loki a gnawing feeling in the pit of his stomach. But pushed the feeling deep down as he made his way back down to the Stark Lobby to wait for you.
The lobby was hustling and bustling like most mornings, and now that he had another friend in the Tower, he walked in with more confidence. First, his eyes scanned the lobby for you, and when he didn’t see you, he beelined for the receptionist desk.
“Good morning, Lady Kimberly. You will be happy to know I have finished your request.” Loki sang, and the old receptionist perked up.
“Good morning, Loki!” She chirped back, “You seem to be in much better spirits today. Definitely too happy for someone who spent hours upon hours scanning documents.”
Loki blushed, suddenly becoming sheepish, “Yes, well, I had a wonderful day with Lady Y/N.” Again, he looked around the lobby, and did not see you. “Speaking of, have you seen her?”
Kimberly shook her head, ignoring the screaming phones that rang around her.
“No, I haven’t. Sometimes she starts her day at the hospital, and then she comes in. So, she should be in later.”
Loki nodded his head in thanks before making his way to the bench by the entrance you typically came in. Settling into his seat, he opened his book and began to read as he waited.
He waited for hours. And hours. And hours. As more time passed, Loki became more worried. Periodically, he would stop by Kimberly’s desk and ask about you; anxiety taking complete control of his legs and his mind.
“I am sorry, Loki. I haven’t heard anything.” She said with a frown.
“Could she be ill?” Loki asked, now fully leaning on the receptionist’s desk as if he was conversing in a dear friend’s home, “Could someone perhaps check on her?”
Kimberly gave Loki a sympathetic look and reached up and patted his hand, “I am sure she is fine. Maybe something came up at the hospital and it is taking more of her time. That happens. Have you tried calling her?”
Loki felt like an idiot. It was such a simple solution, but somehow did not think of it. He pulled the communication device out of his pocket and frowned. In the few instances that he had talked to you on the phone, you had called him. So, he did his best to recall what you taught him of how to use it. He flipped his phone open and after pushing a few buttons, he saw the picture of your smiling face on his screen as it rang. A smile involuntarily crept on his lips at the sight of your happy face. The phone rang a few times, and then he heard your voice. Immediately, Loki’s whole face lit up.
“Lady Y/N! Hello, I was just calling -” Loki’s bright smile faded as soon as he realized it was some automated message.
“You have reached the voicemail of Y/N L/N. I am sorry I could not answer your call. Please leave a message after the tone, and I will get back to you as soon as possible.”
Loki heard the beep, now scrambling and trying to figure out what message to leave you on your device, “Hi, yes, Hello, Lady Y/N. This is Loki….Odinson.” He cringed at his clarification, because it was very unlikely you would know another Loki on Midgard.
“I was trying to reach you because I have not seen you today. I hope you are well and that you are having a pleasant day.” He had started to shuffle about in front of the receptionist desk, who was watching him like he was that evening’s reality show drama, “If you could reach me on your communication device, I would appreciate it.”
There was a long beat of silence before Loki turned to Kimberly who was looking at him expectantly. She flapped her hands, urging him to continue, “And I am in need of more food provisions. Perhaps you could take me to the market again.”
Another beat of awkward silence, “Okay, then. Goodbye.” He looked down at the phone and furrowed his brows, confused on how to end the call. Kimberly snatched the phone out of his hand and hung up.
“Smooth,” She said sarcastically, handing him back his phone. The god threw his arms out in exasperation.
“What?! I thought it was fine! She will at least contact me about the food, and then I will know she is alright.”
The old woman pursed her lips, scrunching up her wrinkled face, “Mmhmm.” She shooed Loki away as she picked up one of the persistently ringing phones.
“Hi, Annie! Yes, you won’t believe it. Edith tried to steal Carol’s bingo card. We all saw her! The old bitty moves slower than molasses. I don’t know what she was thinking.”
Loki walked away from the reception desk, already tired of the so called ‘bingo drama’ and sat back down on the bench with his book again. Somehow, the prince got lost in the book he was reading. The noises of the busy lobby faded away and several hours passed, until he heard the familiar ring of his cell phone. He scrambled to get the phone out of his pocket, his book unceremoniously dropping on the floor with a thud.
He flipped his phone open, “Hello Lady Y/N!” Loki’s large smile split his face as relief swelled within him.
“Uh, Hello? Loki?” The voice on the other end of the phone wasn’t you. It was a young man. He looked down at the phone in his grasp and didn’t see your usual, beautiful smiling face, but instead there was a random number he didn’t recognize.
The relief that Loki felt, quickly turned to fury and he growled into the phone, “Who are you and what have you done with, Y/N?!”
“Umm, nothing, man. This is Geoffrey with a G. Y/N asked me to call you.”
“Y/N asked you to call me? Why?” Loki had started to pace the lobby, getting more agitated by the minute.
“She got a message from you about needing food. I can help order that for you. That’s my job, man.” Geoffrey drawled, and Loki could hear the distant sound of bubbling on the other line, then coughing.
“Place your order, Dude.”
Loki ran his hands through his hair, already tired of this…Geoffrey with a G. “Why can’t Y/N take me?”
The feeling that you were trying to avoid him was sinking down in his chest, a heavy weight his heart didn’t want to bear. He pushed too far, and now you are pulling away and pawning him off on some idiot mortal.
“She is busy today, Dude.”
The god growled, “My name is not Dude!” He made sure to sneer out his new moniker. The mere mention of it on his tongue making him dumber.
“Whatever, Man,” Loki rolled his eyes, still pacing the lobby and somehow still entertaining this fool, “She is busy today, and has asked you to not go to your floor for a few hours. Are you ordering or not?”
Now, Loki was just confused, furrowing his brows, “What do you mean she doesn’t want me going to my floor?”
“I can’t say, Dude. Just don’t go up there for a few hours.” There was a long, tired sigh on the phone and again, more distant bubbling and coughing, “Look, I have other people who I have to call. Last chance to order some grub, Man.”
Loki thought for a moment. He considered pressing about what you could be doing, and why you asked him to not be in his chambers. Yet, there was the practicality of his situation. He did need food provisions, but this could also be an opportunity. A sly smile crept on his lips.
“What market do you go to?” Geoffrey, much to Loki’s delight, named the very same market that you and Loki went to.
“Wonderful. Are you able to pick me up a plant?”
“A plant?” Geoffrey questioned, with another round of bubbling, “Oh, yeah, I got a ton of plants right here, Dude. Acapulco Gold, Purple Kush, Maui Wowie…take your pick.”
Loki tapped his chin thoughtfully, “I am not familiar with these plants. Are they beautiful?”
There was another long sigh on the other end of the line, but this time it seemed….dreamy, “The most beautiful ever.”
Loki beamed upon hearing this. Finally, something he can do for you that would make you smile. The prince remembered how your lovely fingers trailed against the leaves of a plant at the shop. Each touch was filled with such reverence, such longing, and now, Loki, would be the one to bring you what you coveted.
“I will take one of each plant you have.”
“That’s my man!” Geoffrey chuckled, and somehow, it made Loki’s smile grow wider. This Geoffrey fellow isn’t so bad, after all. “You’re going to want some food with that, trust me.”
Loki quickly placed the rest of his food order, and ended the call with Geoffrey saying it will be waiting for him in his chambers when he is finally allowed back in. As soon as he hung up, Loki quickly made his way over to the reception desk. His hand frantically banged on the bell that perched on the desk, dinging it loudly to get Kimberly’s attention.
The elderly receptionist rolled her eyes at her new godly friend, and promptly took the bell away from him. Gently, she tucked her phone back into her neck, “Hold on, Annie. What can I help you with, your majesty?”
The sarcasm dripped from her words, but Loki paid it no mind as he continued to ride the high from the mere daydream of you accepting his gracious gift, “Do you know why I cannot return to my chambers?”
Kimberly smirked, “That I do, but I cannot say.”
The excitement of everything was flowing freely through his veins, and the god was practically vibrating in front of the reception desk, “So, you know? This is Lady Y/N’s doing?”
Loki still looked around the lobby, as if he would see your beautiful face at the simple mention of your name. But you weren’t there, making the god’s giddy mood falter at your absence.
“It is, but like I said, I cannot say why. In fact, she told me to tell you-”
“She has a message for me?! Why didn’t you tell me earlier.” Loki all but leapt over the desk, practically leaning his whole upper body to get closer to his ally with a wide smile. The thought of you possibly planning something special just for him made his heart flutter wildly in his chest. Kimberly lifted her hand to hush the excited god and stifled her own laughter.
“Y/N called not too long ago. She says, and I quote, to ‘tell Loki to mix, mingle, and be, and that I am very serious. I will know! And to come back to his apartment by four in the afternoon.’”
Loki immediately scrunched his nose in disgust, “Mix, mingle, and be?” He looked around the lobby, and his aversion to the tower’s bustling guests only grew. “With…who?”
“I don’t know, Loki, just not with me. You gotta scram. I have to get back to these calls.” Again, she shooed him with her hand.
The prince scoffed, “Oh, you mean your gossip with Annie?”
Kimberly grinned, placing the phone that was nestled in her neck back to ear and flashed Loki a wink. With a huff, Loki turned on his heel and scooped him his abandoned book on the floor.
“Socialize?” He groaned at the mere thought of having to talk with someone in the tower. He looked around the lobby that was still bustling with people. The only person there that he could stand was Kimberly, and she had cast him aside for the day.
“How would she know, anyways?” He muttered to himself. Yet, his eyes wandered the ceilings of the lobby, peeking at the surveillance cameras and various security measures that were in place. You didn’t seem like someone who would make idle threats. No, you were honest to a fault, and you wouldn’t lie to him, ever. Somehow, someway, you would know.
Letting out a long sigh, he stepped into the elevator and made his way to one of the many common areas of the Avenger’s section of the tower. Perhaps he could – Loki gulped at the thought – converse with Thor.
The elevator dinged and he stepped out, his book still tucked under his arm. The common room was like most of the others he had seen on various floors. The same set of couches, television, and small kitchenette; a quaint, cozy room for the Avenger’s to call home when they aren’t off saving the world. Every time Loki stepped in these rooms, he felt out of place and like he didn’t belong. That he, the villain, didn’t deserve a sacred perch upon the billionaire’s plush couches; all evident by the constant deadly stares he received whenever an Avenger saw him outside of his beige prison. Today was no exception.
Crystal blue eyes scanned the room. It was quiet, except for the quiet mumblings coming from the television and the frantic scribbling of the youngest Avenger, Peter Parker. The hairs on the young hero’s arm stood on end even before the god had stepped off the elevator, but still he focused on the homework in front of him; blatantly ignoring Loki who was now burning holes into the back of Peter’s head.
“Spiderling!” Loki yelled out, making the teenager flinch and fling his pen across the room.
“Mr. Loki – uh, hi. Hello.” Peter awkwardly cleared his throat, trying to keep calm, but as Loki approached the young Midgardian, one thing was abundantly clear: the spiderling was terrified. Loki didn’t miss how Peter’s eyes flitted down to the magic dampeners still attached to his wrists.
“I am in need of your assistance.” Loki stated, matter-of-factly, and staring at Peter expectedly.
“Uh, yeah – sure, what can I help you with?” Peter managed to squeak out his reply. It was the first time the two had met, so the teenager was a bit thrown off by Loki’s directness. But the friendly neighborhood spiderman shows up for all. Even brash gods.
“I am required to socialize.” Again, Loki blurted out his dilemma as if it was the most normal thing, crossing his arms and waiting on a reply from the young hero. Peter scrunched his face.
“Required to socialize? How are you required to-”
“Lady Y/N.” Loki quickly interrupted.
“Oh! You know Y/N?” The surprised look that Peter gave Loki had the god furrowing his brows in confusion.
“Yes, she is graciously granting her assistance with….assimilating to this planet. Why is that surprising? How do you know her?”
Loki’s rapid fire questions has Peter back pedaling quickly, “Oh, so she’s helping you like Mr. Barnes….that’s, uh, that’s nice. Real nice.”
Loki sucked on his teeth, choosing to ignore the swell of jealousy at the mention of the super soldier. The patience for this Midgardian teenager started to wane and an uncomfortable silence started to grow. It seems that his dear Y/N had finally given him a task that he could not complete. The silver-tongued god who could talk himself out of anything, found talking to Peter borderline torturous. Loki’s eyes scrutinized the young hero, and even though he could sense the slight tremble in Peter’s body, he still braved talking to the god. Peter didn’t speak to him like he was a villain, like how the others in the Tower have. If anything, he treated Loki with kindness. Much like how you had. The thought had Loki’s lips twitching up in a gentle smile.
Loki hummed thoughtfully, “Yes, she has been quite wonderful and welcoming.” The wistful look that swept across Loki’s face was not missed by the teenager who had his own deep-seated feelings of romantic longing. He saw the truth, without Loki needing to say anything. Loki cared for you.
“You like her!” Peter said excitedly, pointing at Loki and seemingly forgetting his former villain status and any accompanying fear at the revelation.
Now, it was Loki that was backpedaling, “What? No! I mean, of course, I like her. She is a kind and gracious woman – What?! Why are you laughing?”
Peter was quick to stifle the bubbling laughter that was involuntarily coming out of his mouth, “I am sorry, Mr. Loki. It’s just she’s so sweet. I am pretty sure everyone loves her and – and – and you’re…,” Peter stammered and cleared his throat uncomfortably, deciding to end his rambling.
But what Peter hadn’t said was already understood. Loki frowned, looking down at his now shuffling feet, “I see…And I am me. The villain”
“No, no, no, Mr. Loki, that’s not what I meant!” The teenager reached out a hand to console the thousand-year-old god in front of him but pulled back as he second guessed himself. Still, the gesture was noticed and appreciated none the less.
“Mr. Thor had told us….” Peter looked away from Loki’s piercing gaze to gather his thoughts, before turning back with sincerity burning in his eyes, “He had told us it was not your fault. It’s just that you are so dark and brooding and she is basically what a warm hug would be as a person…and I haven’t even seen you out of your room this whole time. I didn’t think you liked anyone.”
Loki grinned, “Well, I am here talking to you, aren’t I?”
Much to Loki’s delight and surprise, Peter was smiling widely back at him, “Yes, you are and that’s amazing!” The praise was genuine, Loki could tell, and it was enough to open himself up to this young Midgardian. Even just a little bit.
“Though, I am afraid my affections don’t matter.”
The immediate frown that appeared on Peter’s face warmed Loki’s heart. The god who was surrounded by people who questioned him and thought of him as anything but good, was faced with someone who seemed to genuinely care for him and his sadness. It was almost overwhelming.
“What? Why?”
Loki sighed, finally settling in on a seat next to Peter, “Her role wouldn’t allow her to consort with anyone she works with. It wouldn’t be….appropriate, as she would say.” Norns, he really hated that word.
Peter thoughtfully rested his chin in his palm, clearly working out the problems of Loki’s life in his clever, young mind. The sight had the god smiling in amusement. Socializing with the spiderling was becoming easier by the minute.
“Do you think she likes you back?” The question sent the god down a spiral of ‘does she or doesn’t she. Loki had spent hours analyzing everything you said and did during your interactions together, and that very thought had plagued him into the late-night hours.
“Honestly, I am not sure. Some moments with her are quite wonderful. Perfect even.” As Loki talked about you, the wistfulness on his grew and Peter mirrored his happiness, “Yet, those moments seem so fleeting. One moment we are close and laughing, and the next she is running out the door! I don’t understand it!”
As Loki told his tale of woe to his new young friend, each word becoming more franctic and passionate, Peter listened intently, nodding his head.
“Maybe she is trying to push away the feelings she has, because she knows she isn’t supposed to have them.”
“She…what?” The god was stunned.
Peter turned more into Loki to face him properly and stress his point. “From what I know about Miss Y/N is that she loves her job. She takes it very seriously and honestly, most of us would be lost without her. You’re a smart guy, Mr. Loki, and if you think she may like you, maybe she does, but she doesn’t want to let herself give in to those feelings.”
Loki was watching Peter intensely, hanging on to his every word and it rattled the teenager to have the undivided attention of the god who tried to take over his home planet, “I actually have no idea what I am talking about, Mr. Loki. Forget I said anything.” He quickly rattled off.
Loki leaned forward on his elbows, his long, index finger gently stroking his lower lip in thought. “No, no, you may be onto something there, Spiderling.” Peter sat up a little straighter at the praise.
“But it doesn’t offer a solution to our dilemma. I will be, what do you Midgardian’s call it? Ah, yes, graduating from this little program of hers and that’s it. I won’t see her anymore.”
Peter bit his lip, debating asking the question that burned on his tongue.
“Speak your mind, Spiderling.” Loki tried to make his voice gentle, but his normally deep, and dominating tone still had the teen flinching.
“Uh…I was wondering, Mr. Loki, in the nicest way possible…I don’t want to come off mean at all,” Loki rolled his eyes along with his hands, motioning for Peter to ‘get on with it’, “Um, how did you even qualify for her classes? Thor always mentioned how smart you are, and I get it with Mr. Rodgers or Mr. Barnes since they aren’t from this time and all…” Peter trailed off, gulping down his anxiety and silently praying his question didn’t insult a god.
Loki shifted uncomfortably in his seat, now having to face his decision to lie to you. He considered not saying anything to Peter and relying on lies to get him through like he did for everything else in his life. But he wanted to do things differently. With every interaction he had, he was encouraged to step further from the hardened shell he created for himself. First, with you, then with Kimberly, and now with the young spiderling. Maybe he didn’t have to rely on lies as a shield anymore.
“I, uh…” Loki hesitated, avoiding Peter’s gaze as a sudden wave of shame swept through him, “I lied to her. I admit, there is some things I genuinely didn’t know, but I likely did not need her assistance. I just wanted the chance to spend time with her.”
Peter noticeably cringed at Lok’s admission; enough to make the god look him in the eye.
“Oh, Mr. Loki….that isn’t good.” He huffed out an incredulous laugh, as Loki looked on, now suddenly very concerned about his choice to lie to you, “Don’t ever tell her that.”
“What?” Loki shook his head in disbelief, his dark curls bouncing on his broad shoulders, “Aren’t you supposed to tell me to come clean? To tell the truth?”
Again, to Loki’s surprise, Peter laughed again and leaned into him, “No. Absolutely not. Honesty is very important to Miss Y/N and if she finds out, you’re finished.”
Loki froze. The thought of you finding out about his lie and being angry with him made his chest tighten with anxiety. A part of him felt that he could rationalize and even survive the inevitable heartbreak of you declining a romantic relationship with him over the lie, but facing your disappointment in him? That would be too much to bear.
A gentle hand on his shoulder kept the god from falling into an existential crisis. Loki turned and looked into Peter’s eyes, only seeing compassion, and understanding far beyond the teen’s years.
“It is just a simple lie, Mr. Loki. I lie all the time about being an Avenger. The girl I like has no idea, and I am pretty sure that is WAY worse than lying about being able to cook.”
Loki couldn’t help but laugh at the ridiculousness of the situation he found himself in. The god of mischief getting romantic advice from a Midgardian teenager.
“I actually can’t cook.” Loki chuckled, and Peter was quick to join him.
“See! One less thing for you to worry about.”
Relief bloomed within Loki. This conversation was just what he needed; a moment of solace and compassion for his mind that has been battling against his growing infatuation with you.
“It still doesn’t change the fact that my time with her is limited. I only have a few more meetings with her, and then it is over. I won’t see her anymore.” Loki sighed sadly at the thought, knowing that the day was drawing nearer with each passing moment.
“What do you mean? She does more than just teach people how to cook and all that! She is involved with Avenger’s stuff all the time.”
Loki perked up at this new information, “Truly? Like what?”
Peter sat back in his chair as he thought, “She comes to most of the meetings, and she sets up our weekly Avenger get togethers. Self-care, team bonding, and all that.”
Loki hummed, “Perhaps, I should come out of my room more, after all.”
There was a beat of silence between the new, unlikely companions and for once, it wasn’t uncomfortable for Loki. It wasn’t accompanied by blatant sneers, and narrowed, distrusting eyes. It felt like two friends, simply enjoying each other’s company. This is nice.
“So, uh, Mr. Loki,” Peter cautiously broke the silence, “I was wondering…why is it that you like, Miss Y/N?”
Loki whipped his head towards the teenager. His mouth hung open in shock, the audacity of the question evident on his scrunched, offended face. The sight had Peter backpedaling for the third time during their conversation.
“I don’t mean to be offensive, Mr. Loki, I’m sorry!” He held up his hands in defense, as the nervous, squeaky tone in his voice returned, “I just assumed you didn’t like, uh,….Earth girls. Or, um, anyone on Earth, really.”
Loki’s steely gaze softened. It was a question that Loki often asked himself into the long hours of the night. The dark prince was not one for relationships, but lovers and dalliances was a constant throughout his life. Nights of passion for both partners with the expectation that it was for the experience of carnal pleasures only, and nothing more. Some lovers tried to coax affection from Loki after erotic and breathless nights tangled in his sheets, but their attempts always proved fruitless. The tall, impenetrable walls of the god’s heart always stayed up and he never even considered the idea of a life with one person. A lover for eternity.
Until you.
“Everything has been…different with her. She has shown me kindness that I haven’t felt in ages. I can be honest with her. I don’t have to hide or put up this façade.” Loki swallowed thickly, surprised at his own honesty towards this young Midgardian he just met.
“She doesn’t see me at the villain.” Loki turned to look directly at Peter, who was listening intently, “But it isn’t just her kindness and compassion towards me. My cold heart doesn’t crack at the first bit of tenderness I received on this dreadful planet…”
Both Loki’s and Peter’s lips twitched in amusement, “But it is her gentleness and caring towards everything and everyone around her. The way you described her as a ‘warm hug’ – a perfect description, really. A warmth I could easily bathe myself in….but I find myself caring for her, more than myself.”
Loki shifted in his seat, suddenly unable to keep eye contact as bared his fragile heart. “I have lived a life of selfish preservation, but now, somehow, I want that to change. I want to be better.”
Another hard swallow, “For her. To be worthy of her gentleness, but-but to care and replenish her from the selfish fools of this world who mean to greedily consume all that she is, with little regard with how they leave her hollow. I- I- I want to make her laugh and feel at ease. To be the light for her when she falls into the darkness.”
Loki’s voice cracked as he lost himself to his growing passion for you. The vulnerable moment only breaking when he finally re-connected with the young hero who now looked at Loki with glassy eyes.
Loki huffed out a laugh, shielding his heart yet again, “And she is quite beautiful, of course. With assets that you will come to appreciate as you get older, young Spiderling.” The god grinned, waving, and curling his hands in the air to emphasize your glorious curves.
“It sounds like you really love her.” Peter said simply, but his sparkling eyes gave away how the dark princes’ words affected him.
Loki was quick to scoff, “Love, I say, is taking it a bit too far. I haven’t even known her a fortnight.”
Yet, Peter and his knowing look remained unfazed by the falsehoods the god of lies told himself. The silence that felt comforting only moments ago, now was unsettling. A silence that only allowed for the truth to remain.
The truth that Loki loved you.
But, even with the existence of the truth, Loki knew that he did not have to face it. Not yet. Quickly, he stood up from his seat next to Peter, who was already profusely apologizing to the god. Loki held up his hand to stop the teenagers word vomit.
“It is quite alright, Spiderling. I have quite enjoyed our conversation, but I am afraid I must part. I have a meeting with Lady Y/N that I must attend.”
Loki paused before continuing, “Oh, and please don’t tell anyone about this.” His word contained a very thinly veiled threat that had Peter squirming in his seat all over again.
“I won’t. You can trust me, Mr. Loki.” And Loki knew he could.
Loki started to walk towards the elevator to bring him to his floor where you waited. The thought of you waiting in his chambers brought a warmth to his still anxious heart. But a call of his name had Loki turning back to his new, young friend.
“Mr. Loki…” Peter spoke confidently, and with the sincerity of a friendship that surpassed their mere hour together, “Good luck.”
Loki could only nod his head, before entering the elevator that would bring him to the floor that housed his chambers. Heavy footsteps echoed off the walls of the narrow hallway, the conversation with the spiderling hanging equally as heavy in the god’s mind. With each step that brought him closer to you, filled him simultaneously with excitement, anticipation, and dread. Would he fall to his knees upon the sight of you? Would he throw himself at your feet in proud worship with sonnets of eternal love flowing from his mouth?
Finally, he reached the door of his chambers. His hand hovered over the doorknob, hesitating before deciding to knock against the solid wood of the door. Loki licked his lips as his mouth suddenly went dry at the fact that this may be the last time he sees you. The threat of you leaving was always a possibility in the dangerous game he insisted on playing with you. The game of getting close without breaking some foolish rule you put upon him, and yourself. How close could he get to your light and how long could he bask in it before it was extinguished?
Loki knew it was…unreasonable for him to feel such anxiety and terror at the thought of never seeing you again. Especially, since has only known you for such a short time. But the god knew that there was often a simple reason for what was considered unreasonable, for what was considered impossible and non-sensical.
Love.
“Come in!” Your voice called out to him from beyond his door like a sweet siren’s song. He turned the knob and entered his chambers. All breath left him at the sight that greeted him.
His once dreadfully dull, painfully beige apartment had been completely transformed. The beige walls were now an opulent green; the same color that was often seen on his traditional Asgardian leathers. All the horrid furniture had been replaced with the new furnishings he picked out after he first met you, including the set that you once called ‘charming’. Accents of gold were peppered throughout the tiny apartment, a detail that was reminiscent of his own chambers back on Asgard. Several bookcases lined the far wall. All the shelves were empty and calling to be the new home for the prince’s favorite written words.
And in the center of it all was you.
You, who was dressed in old, denim overalls and a ratty t-shirt that were covered in green paint that bared semblance to the colors that now graced his walls. Evidence of your hard work and dedication to the creation of your gift for him covering your beautiful body; the colors that were known as his.
“I hope you like it.” You started when the silence from the stunned god was too much to bear. Your tone was sheepish and unsure, but so sweet, like the finest honey. “I took some liberties, after talking to Thor. We can change anything you like!”
Loki licked his lips, his throat dry and closing in for all new reasons, “It’s - it’s perfect.”
You were quick to rush up to him with a beaming smile and like most of your other interactions with him, you grabbed him by the bicep and started to lead him throughout apartment. Excited words flew from your mouth as you explained where everything was in his newly decorated home. You pointed out seemingly random bits of décor that he hadn’t picked out from the catalog. But with each bit of information you gave him, Loki learned that nothing was random at all. Each piece, each item was hand selected by you - for him.
It was overwhelming, but the ever-stoic god did not let his overflowing adoration for you show. Instead, he let you continue dragging him about his home. Even to his bedroom where he often dreamed of you, both asleep and with his eyes wide open.
“See! No more mattress on the floor!” Your arms were spread wide, a look of pride painted on your face. You walked over to the bed that was now a plush mattress sitting upon a frame with an elegant, golden headboard. With a bounce, you sat yourself upon his bed, the most intimate place within his home. Your fingers danced across the soft, velvety fabric of the forest green comforter while Loki watched from the doorway.
You looked like you belonged there. There, among his things. But Loki didn’t dare step closer for fear of touching your light, only to get burned.
“Everything is lovely. This is too kind of you, Y/N.” Your smile became impossibly brighter under his praise, and for a moment Loki let the slightest whisper of a smile grace his lips.
“I am so glad you like it. I didn’t have much time to get everything set up…” You looked around his room, laughter bubbling from your chest and making Loki’s stomach flutter, “I would be careful with touching the walls. I’m pretty sure some of the paint is still drying.”
The three words that Loki couldn’t face just a few moments ago, was suddenly threatening to erupt from his mouth. A confession that he didn’t even truly understand that prickled on tongue. Words of adoration and reverence and worshiping of your beautiful form were begging to be said in this place where you belonged. His home and in his arms.
But a knock at the door saved him.
Quickly, you stood up from his bed and moved passed him and towards his door. Your floral perfume followed behind you, making his head swim and his legs chase after you on their own accord.
You opened the door and smirked, “Geoffrey! Right on time!”
Loki peeked over your shoulder at the eccentric man he spoke to on the phone earlier today. The young man had shaggy brown hair, a loose hanging shirt adorned with the words ‘Pink Floyd’, and even looser hanging pants. Around his feet and his arms were bags, upon bags of groceries. The smell that came from Geoffrey could only be described as earthy and…pungent. It made Loki scrunch his nose up at the offensive smell, but you remained unphased, so Loki thought it best not to comment on it.
You immediately went to work and began helping bring in all the various bags into Loki’s apartment. It reminded the god of the daydream he had of you; a daydream of domestic bliss. The three words continued to burn on his tongue, until he felt a paper bag thrusted into his broad chest.
“Here’s your special order, Dude. Enjoy.” Geoffrey whispered to Loki, punctuating his delivery with a wink. You and Geoffrey made quick work of bringing in all the groceries, and soon enough his funky smelly delivery man was gone, and he was alone with you yet again.
You grinned, motioning to the bag that was in Loki’s arms, “What’s that?”
The simple question suddenly had Loki remembering what was in the bag. Somehow, with all the forced socialization he endured, he forgot that he requested plants. Plants that he intended to give as a special gift for you. Now, standing in the apartment your lovely hands transformed just for him, the gift seemed dreadfully inadequate. But you were looking at him expectedly with wide, beautiful eyes and a sweet smile on your soft lips. Norns, I would do anything for her just as long as she looked at me like that.
Loki was acutely aware of the pink flush that now covered his typically pale face, but even so, he placed the bag on the counter of his small kitchen.
“I got a little something for you.” He turned to you, unable to control the smile that spread on his face, “As a thank you for your kindness.”
You leaned forward, trying to get a peek at the contents of the bag. But, as soon as Loki pulled the first plant from the bag, an audible gasp slipped pasted your lips. The fanned, five and seven pointed leaves of the plant were easily identified by you. And with each plant that Loki pulled out from the bag, it further confirmed your suspicions. They were all cannabis plants.
You couldn’t help the laugh that burst from your throat. Your hands flew to your mouth to try and stifle your laughter, but the giggles kept coming despite your best efforts to maintain a professional appearance. Loki frowned.
“What? What’s so funny? I thought you liked plants?” He asked, watching you bite your lip and swallow down more of your sweet laughs. He held one of the potted plants in his large hands, but with such a tender grip as if he feared he would damage the precious gift. Holding it up closer to eye level, he inspected the plant, but he didn’t notice anything odd about it. The plant had an odor that was like the pungent smell that attached itself to Geoffrey, but it was much more subtle.
“Yeah, these definitely are plants.” You laughed again, looking at the other cannabis plants that now covered the god’s kitchen counter, “They’re great.”
Loki shot you an incredulous look. Even with his godly abilities dampened, he could still easily tell that you were being gracious with his gift and lying to be polite.
“Lady Y/N, please tell me. What is wrong with the plants?”
You bit your lip as you clearly debated whether to tell him the truth. The inner turmoil that was on your face, had Loki questioning everything about the plant he had given you. Not only was Loki an expert with magic and seidr, but he also spent an extensive amount of his studies on plants and herbs. Did he inadvertently give you poison? Or was this the Midgardian version of the deadly, yet tantalizing sex pollen plant? All he could do is hold his breath and hope you would grant him the truth.
Clearing your throat, you pointed to the line of plants on his counter, “There isn’t anything wrong with the plants. They, uh…” You hesitated, before ultimately shrugging and giving into the situation at hand, “These plants…they’re called cannabis plants. Parts of the plants are used for different things. To create fabrics, medicines, things like that.”
Loki nodded thoughtfully at your explanation, satisfied that he didn’t give you a gift that was dangerous or offensive.
“But it is mostly used as a drug. To experience a high and in some places in the world, and in some places of this country we are in, uh, it is illegal.”
Loki’s eyes went wide in shock, “I gave you an illegal plant?!”
You placed a reassuring hand on his bicep, as you always have done, in between laughs, “In this area, it is legal, so it is fine. You didn’t do anything wrong.”
Loki raked his hand through his hair, feeling a hot flush of embarrassment creep up his neck. “But these aren’t like the plants at the market that you were admiring.”
He felt your gentle hand squeeze the muscle on his arm, “No, it’s not, but the thought was very kind.” You huffed out a laugh, and Loki turned to you, “Many people would love this as a gift. They would be thrilled, actually. It just isn’t my thing.”
The hand that tenderly held his arm, moved down the soft sleeve of his dress shirt, until your hand landed in his. Without a moment’s hesitation, Loki’s fingers wrapped around yours. The sheer size of his large hands easily enveloping yours. The calluses from centuries of training and battles scratching against the suppleness of your skin. Another reminder of how he didn’t deserve your softness.
Gently, you squeezed his hand, “Everything is okay, Loki. Really.”
But despite your tenderness, Loki found himself ripping his hand away from yours as he spat back at you, “You think I am a fool!”
Shame consumed Loki at his outburst, but the embarrassment he felt for failing at the simple task of getting you a gift you liked burned within him more. The look of sympathy you gave him only fanned the flames more, making him turn away from you. Loki was stubborn, but he had a formidable opponent with you. You slinked up behind him, your short stature bringing you face to face with the strong muscles of his broad back. The heat from your body seeped into Loki’s skin, acutely aware of your closeness, but still his own stubbornness would not allow him to turn and face you.
Until he felt your tiny fingers poking into the side of his ribcage, making him jolt away from the tickling sensation and whipping around to be greeted by your grinning face.
“Enough pouting, Muffin.” Your voice was stern, but still held a bit of playfulness that told him that you weren’t angry with him.
“Muffin?” All feelings of embarrassment were replaced with confusion. And when you bit your lip upon seeing his scrunched-up face, all negative feelings left him completely.
You laughed yet again. Norns, he loved that sound. “Are you asking what a Muffin is, or why I called you that?”
Loki chuckled right alongside you, feeling embarrassment flood his chest, but the warmth you brought with it kept his anger at bay, “Both, I am afraid.”
You smirked and you turned towards the bags of groceries and began to pull out various ingredients. Flour, sugar, butter…
“I asked Geoffrey to pick up these things for me. It has to do with our last lesson.” Hearing that his time with you was coming to an end, made Loki’s stomach lurch. It was all happening too soon.
“We are going to learn how to cook and follow a recipe and make muffins!” You said excitedly, “Muffins are a pastry….many times eaten with breakfast, but frankly it is just an excuse for dessert first thing in the morning.” Your laugh was filled with mirth, and Loki found himself laughing along, despite the aching in his heart.
The fact that you called Loki a sweet Midgardian treat had the god flushing all over again, but still his curiosity yearned for more.
“And why are you calling me a Muffin?”
You quickly busied yourself with lining up all the ingredients on the counter, pushing all of them in a straight line to avoid his piercing gaze. Loki noticed the rosiness to your cheeks, and it made his chest swell with pride.
“Well, you have many sides to you, much like a muffin. They can be savory, decadent, and sweet. They are something to indulge in, often under the guise of being healthy, when really, they are positively sinful.,” You turned your gaze to the god who seemed to have forgotten how to breathe, “And I admit…your hair is quite muffin-like.”
“My hair?” Loki said a bit breathier than he wanted.
Another giggle bubbled up from your chest, and Loki didn’t miss how your blush deepened, “Yes, it is quite fluffy…much like a muffin.”
The god’s brain all but short circuited at the explanation of your endearment. So many things were said, yet unsaid, sending his mind into a spiral of ‘what it all means.’ The fact that you called him any sort of moniker, let alone one with a sweet undertone made his heart hammer in his chest. And in the same breath, you associated him with decadent, sweet, and…positively sinful. Loki suppressed a groan at the thought that you have the same depraved thoughts about him, like he did for you. Yet, you also said he was something to indulge in. A forbidden delicacy to satiate your wicked desires; something that is fleeting and doesn’t last.
“Is it…is it okay that I call you that?” Your small, unsure voice broke Loki from his mental anguish. The need for you to be okay extinguished any of the flames of uncertainty and without hesitation, he answered you with a soft smile. A smile filled with tenderness and reverence that he reserved only for you.
“Of course.”
Something new in your eyes shone back at him, something he couldn’t discern, but it was warm and comforting. A warm hug.
“Wonderful,” You smiled wide, “Let’s get started then.”

Summary:
“It’s some young guy,” she said. “Or, like, not super young. Our age, I think. Maybe a little older? From out of town. Or he is now, but used to be from here.” “What? Who is?” “That bought the Radioshack. Turning it into a bookstore? Some guy,” Robin continued. “That’s why Vickie even knows. They were trying to keep it all hush-hush because he didn’t want to buy it without, like, zoning permissions so he could do a full scale remodel to turn it into a bookstore. Otherwise he didn’t see a point, or so Vickie said Mrs Wheeler said.” Or: Steve owns a movie theater, and a bookstore moves in across the street.
