catching Ziyi with Rokumonsen brainrot so here is my proposal for the family dynamics of the RLF

(what’s with Rokumonsen having ALL-MIND parts but it’s never explained? Is he also ALL-MIND spy? Did O’Keeffe quit working for AM partly because he discovered she was also spying on the RLF even though one condition for him to work for her is she leaving them tf alone? Flatwell’s AC is Japanese for “wings” so does he and Rokumonsen bond over being a weeb together ? Is Flatwell doomed to be involved with AM’s spies? (Sulla pre-heating the oven outside: hey-)

Do Ziyi and Rusty even know each other exist? I feel like they don’t. Flatwell adopted her after Rusty had left to start his infiltration to the Vespers and Flatwell never told either of them, to avoid… complications. Ziyi only knew the “Rusty” boy disappeared. basically Rusty went to live with dad for years, come back and found out he now has a little sister and another guy she insists is dad. But there’s simply no way he’s accepting that. 621 is inching out the door as we speak cuz what the hell is with your family Rusty-)

I think. in a weird way. Ziyi sees a kind of mirror of herself in Rokumonsen. Even though she thinks independent mercenaries are the absolute scum of the Earth.

She doesn't know anything about her parents or what their situation was but she knows it must have been desperate if they were trying to come to Rubicon on their own of all places. But regardless, she was brought to Rubicon because they heard there was money in Coral mining. It's likely they were being scammed, but still. Even if it was while she was only a baby, she was on her way to Rubicon to exploit the Coral. Just like the corporations, even if only just a little. And if her parents were still alive, that's what she would be doing. Mining Coral.

But even with that in mind, there's not a soul on Rubicon that holds a grudge against her for that. And when she needed it, the Rubiconians took her in as one of their own, and she was raised as a daughter by Middle Flatwell. Even though they have little to give, Ziyi survived thanks to the unconditional generosity of the Rubicon Liberation Front.

Rokumonsen is an independent mercenary. One who came to Rubicon to exploit the conflict for his own gain by selling his skills at killing people, just like all the others. We don't know what happened to him that led to him being found starving and exposed, only that it was Little Ziyi that found him.

I think she saw someone in him who, like her in a way, came to Rubicon to exploit it only to one way or another be humbled by it. I think she thought helping him might be her way of paying it forward, as the Liberation Front had done for her. I get the vibe from the RLF sketch that the two have managed to become close friends despite everything. Just two outsiders turned proud Coral Warriors, trying to pay back the kindness they were shown on Rubicon.

I don't always go for Coffee Shop AUs, but I do like this one. This is the world O'Keefe wanted to live in.

My mind immediately jumped to the independent mercenaries owning an independent book shop together.

Coldcall stocks it with the edgiest fiction you can fathom, Rokumonsen makes sure there's a fine selection of Japanese literature and poetry (in the original Japanese, of course), and Nosaac was the one who somehow persuaded the other two to go in on this venture with him and is the one handling the accounts.

It is constantly on the verge of closure and kept open only because Rokumonsen works part time at the Flatwell bakery with Ziyi and Coldcall has secret side-income, the origin of which he refuses to disclose.

AC coffee shop au idea

i went briefly insane over on twitter but like, big idea for a low energy, self-indulgent fun coffee shop au:

The Redgun Cafe is owned by Michigan who was an ex F1 racer, now retired, and several of his employees are like ppl from his career or just scruffed off the street (Iguazu).

Iguazu is the main barista of Redgun Cafe and he makes THE BEST COFFEE EVER it is ambrosia it's perfect it's just that he's an asshole with a sour personality and no customer service skills whatsoever

Across the street (directly across the street) is the Vesper's Lounge, a rival cafe that's very ritzy, very fancy and expensive. It's owned by Freud who ALSO owns a hobby shop on the same street that sells mecha model kits.

Their main barista is Rusty, who can make a decent enough coffee, but in sharp contrast to Iguazu, is very charming and uses his attractiveness to lure in customers. Also has hidden expert baking skills since his father, Flatwell, owns a bakery

YEAH SO Flatwell owns a bakery on the same street. The food there is legendary. His daughter, Ziyi, helps him run it. Rusty does as well when he's not working at Vesper's Lounge

Rusty works at Vesper's Lounge for two reasons: extra money, and because he gets a discount at Freud's hobby shop. Rusty and Freud are both gunpla enthusiasts. Somehow no one else knows that they're gunpla otaku buddies...

Carla owns a bar on the same street called Carla's Bar, and it's a hole in the wall bar that's sustained only by its regulars. She's fucking loaded though, bc she has other businesses elsewhere too.

Walter and 621 work at Carla's bar as bartenders (Walter also does 'other work' (information brokering) for Carla). 621 is Walter's adopted son as well.

The Hounds (617, 619 and 620) run a garage (owned by Carla) and are regulars to the bar. They've taken 621 under their wing.

Ayre is 621's online friend that lives in another country. They play a lot of online games together and also send each other letters and gifts... they've known each other for many years

Anyway the overall plot of this would be... the zany shenanigans this insane street will get up to. Everyone knows Carla's involved in shady shit - probably criminal! - but they just pretend not to notice. It's much more fun watching Snail and Michigan locks horns over their cafe rivalry while Freud keeps trying to turn Vesper's Lounge into a Mecha Cafe (Snail keeps saying no). At some point 621 and Rusty start dating and it's cute and schmoopy. The end.

it's very interesting that people talk about the dehumanization of pilots in armored core 6 but no one really talks about the dehumanization of AI and Coral which i think are also extremely dense and extremely thematically critical

i absolutely adore the name puns with the rlf members. obviously theyre numbered by names of each finger, ie. 1 - thumb dolmayan, 2 - index dunham, 3 - middle flatwell, 4 - ring freddie, 5 - little ziyi.

but why is the last one, rokumonsen, not following this formula? well actually he still sort of is. because the first kanji in his name is roku. as in six. as usual armored core is both brilliant and extremely basic when naming its cast

Rubicon Liberation Fun.

I think it's really funny how in the supposed corporate hellworld, standard for AC games and 6 being no exception… that with what little Coral they hold and how little resources they actually have… how much the RLF is willing to pay you whatever they can, which is more than what Balam and Arquebus offer (with the exception of the Ambush missions near the end of the underground explorations)

Balam offers 190k for Attack the Dam Complex, and the alt offers you double their offer

Destroying the STRIDER offers 270k, whereas escorting it starts at 500k

After Operation Wallclimber, the highest paying job in Chapter 1 before Attack the Watchpoint is Prisoner Rescue at a cool 250k which is, you guessed it, RLF.

I'm not sure if letting Swinburne off the hook actually nets you a higher reward, but hey, it's cool to see Rokumonsen just pop up out of nowhere. Coincidentally. On a job you were sent on by the RLF… which he could have easily taken care of, given his role, background and build. He's even suited for this kind of stealthy assassination. So why send you, if he could have easily done it? And why did he only appear after accepting Swinburne's offer? Can we assume Ring Freddie is of the same accord, or can we just chalk that up to another rogue action?

Once again, Prevent Corporate Salvage of New Tech, RLF mission, pays more than what Balam offers for Tunnel Sabotage at a 260k vs 130k difference.

Wow, Destroy the Special Forces Craft, a mission from those ragged resistance fighters living off scraps, pays 300k. Eliminate the Enforcement Squads, a corporate job, 270k. Is FromSoft trying to tell me something?

Defend the Old Spaceport, Arquebus. 200k. Defend the Dam Complex, RLF. 450k. Are you seeing it yet?

wait just a damned second. this lead me to the question of why Rokumonsen doesn't get a finger name. well a friend of mine who's learning Japanese just informed me that "Rokumonsen" could be roughly translated into something like "6th digit", and given that he joins the RLF after Ziyi it makes sense he'd be left with the leftover non-existent finger

god why did it take me until just now to realize all the RLF pilots use finger-based codenames
