Palouse Falls by Benjamin Noblitt Via Flickr: This photo was taken on the night before the Great American Solar Eclipse out in Eastern Washington. It was a little out of the way, but it was worth the extra driving time to see this waterfall that I have been meaning to see for a long time. It was even nicer since it was with my dad! The clouds made some nice colors, but only for a second. I was able to catch the last few rays of light on them. Overall, this is not an awesome photo, but it is one of a good memory and that makes it that much nicer for me to enjoy. Hopefully you all can enjoy it as well!

Alien Worlds

I had the opportunity to go out and spend some time under the stars out in the California desert this past weekend, and other than losing $300 worth of tripod and the fact it was still 100° at 10 o'clock at night I had a great time.

Here I've captured the northern dusty end of one of the arms of our very own Milkyway galaxy arching over some pretty cool foreground intrest. This was the last of a few hundred long exposure frames I captured during the night over the course of 7 or 8 different compositions I had found. The ambient temperature and the large numbers of long exposures meant that this frame was LOADED with noise and hot pixels.

To counter noise and hot pixels I typically take between 10 to 15 frames of any given scene and then take two or three dark frames so my post processing software can identify the hot pixels and remove them for me. In this case because this was the last shot of the night I took this as a single frame I didn't have the usual set of exposures needed to properly complete an image. As such I used Adobe's new de-noise software in the CameraRAW application. It works pretty well, but because the noise and hot pixels were so bad I really had to crank it up for the foreground and it overly softened much of the detail to be found there.

Still though, I'd rather have the shot than not.

Under the Stars - by Zach Vogel A clear fall night in a quiet meadow below Chimney Rock by Owl Creek Pass. I began by shooting the rock formation just after sunset and then stacked a photo of the milk way. I combined the two photos for a perfect composition of the castle in the night. I used a crop sensor Nikon D5300 and the 18-55mm kit lens for the landscape and a 14mm Rokinon for the stars.

Update:

Been in contact with Marshall and got the ok, just have to finalize the date and time with them.

I made an equipment list of everything I will need and a list of props. I have some but still looking for a couple of things. In the test footage, I used the rs5. Thinking of using the 14mm Rokinon lens for the film.

Started to create a shot list as well and I’ll probably meet with my DP and brainstorm some more.

Worked on the story a bit and incorporated more of a personal feel. I was thinking it could start in a bedroom and the constant repeat of an alarm. Struggling out of bed, they approach the desk in frustration.

I'd like to introduce myself. First and foremost I'm a little different. I'm sometimes hated. But I know myself and I'm here to stay. I'll be posting some of my works and the process or lack of behind the shots, and maybe some of the backstory. This is a 35mm of Miss Carissa White (IG linked). She is a good friend of mine. We canoed out to this island and did some shots with some pieces that came from a studio photo shoot we had been doing. Took part of an evening from a recent business trip to find some dark(er) skies to try to get some Milky Way photos.

I was aiming for some Bortle Class 2 skies, but due to road closures and my own failing alertness I settled for Class 4 skies. Still enough for a this shot with some sensor-based tracking and a ton of post-processing.

I just love it out here on a dark night during Milkyway Core Season.
