Do you have any theories around Law being "the mastermind behind the Rocky Port incident"?
I can't say I have any specific theories since I don't think we have enough information to go on, but I have a few thoughts rolling around based on what we know:
First, we know there were at least four players: Law; Coby; Blackbeard; and Ochoku, formerly of the Rocks Pirates and ruler of Hachinosu.
Second, we know Law was supposedly the mastermind, and whatever happened was infamous enough to help him, in addition to his hundred hearts, get him a Warlord position.
Third, we know civilians were in danger, and Coby got credit for protecting them. (Yes, I worded that intentionally.)
Fourth, we know that Blackbeard used the incident to defeat Ochoku and take over Hachinosu.
What I can't help thinking of, however, is Coby's reaction to Kyros mentioning Rocky Port and the Marines' history of giving their own credit for things they didn't do (a la Smoker in Alabasta):
Plus, I doubt Law and Blackbeard were aligned in any way, considering Law didn't look particularly pleased to see Blackbeard post-Wano:
So... I feel like we're going to learn that either Law planned some kind of stunt that went awry, or he was simply present when the incident went down and took credit for it since he was trying to build his reputation. I also have a feeling that Law is going to have actually helped people in some way, being a doctor and all.
Either way, I don't think it's going to be as simple as "scary pirates did a bad thing and the nice Marine saved people" story that the Marines are clearly trying to push. My hope is still that Blackbeard takes Law captive, which will put Blackbeard, Law, and Coby in one place--the perfect chance to learn about this incident.

The Rocky Port incident...
...turned out to be another instance of Law meticulously crafting a plan only to shoot himself in the foot, then forming an emergency alliance and somehow turning the tide in his favor. That's incredibly consistent 😭
But now everything makes more sense. It seems Law's intended bargaining chip for becoming a Shichibukai was to hand over a Poneglyph/rubbings to the World Government, and he was accepted not because he submitted 100 hearts of random pirates, but primarily because he played a key role in taking down Ochoku and saving some VIP royalties (also for securing the Poneglyph, I suppose).
According to the translation we have in hand rn, the name of the vessel Law hijacked was "Rocky Port". We know there's a port in Hachinosu with the same name. Maybe it was named after the ship after this incident? (edit: it seems it'd always been a ship and not a port, so, nevermind lol)
But what "important" Poneglyph was there, anyway?
I don't think it's the missing Road Poneglyph. Probably a Rio Poneglyph protected by the resident pirates. I wonder if Law was originally looking for the Road Poneglyph possessed by the man marked by flame, but then changed his target. Curious that he didn't know two of the Road Poneglyphs are possessed by pirates, let alone Kaidou and Linlin..
The chaos that broke out was not part of Law's plan, he was lucky that Blackbeard arrived to join the fun, and they could come to an agreement. Koby, on the other hand, was probably the only marine who agreed to work with the pirates, and thus was able to save the most number of innocent 'Rocky Port' passengers.
I'm pretty sure it was Law who proposed the alliance. Scoring cookie points aside, his conscience surely kicked in. It wasn't his style to drag a ship of innocent civilians to a devil's nest, so he offered to form a pact with the marines to reduce casualty. Without his presence that buffered both sides, a three way alliance wouldn't have been possible.
I had a hunch that Blackbeard and Law might have worked together for some time. But why did Blackbeard need to work with Law? Was Ochoku that strong?
It seems Law didn't know Blackbeard could use two fruits at once (during their flight at Winner island), so Blackbeard likely didn't go all out. Possibly it was of Blackbeard's best interest to secure his victory without greatly damaging the island that he was soon going to rule, so he decided to follow Law's plan. He likely invited Law to his crew too, similar to Kuzan.
In retrospect, it makes sense as to why the alliance with the Straw hats puzzled Law so much, it wasn't because he didn't expect the chaos but because it was entirely different from his previous experience.
I didn't expect the main story the dive deep into Rocky Port incident, it was only a matter of time until we got a short summary. There's enough meat to it to extend it into a short comic, and there's plenty of time in future.
For now, I'm looking forward to the Japanese fanworks flood on Monday 🍿

@1000sunnygo pointed out that artur’s translation of the Rocky Port incindent was clearer than Pewpiece’s, which it is. I’ve got a screencap below, and the text for those without Twitter. And a link to the original:
“Q9: Please tell us about the Rocky Port Incident that resulted in Koby being called "the Hero". A9: I feel like it would take too long to draw it, so I don't think it'll be included in the main story. To put it simply, after hearing that there's a poneglyph on Pirate Island, Law snuck into and hijacked a massive passenger ship called the "Rocky Port", riding it all the way to Pirate Island. The ship was carrying the king and other important figures from a certain country. In reality however, the ship Law borded was a smuggling vessel which was doing business with Pirate Island under the flag of that same country, so some dangerous trouble brewed up. Law then got into conflict with the pirates. And later, Koby and Blackbeard got aboard with their respective objectives, resulting in the three fighting together. That's what came to be known as the incident. As the incident settled, Blackbeard became King of Pirate Island, Law joined the Royal Sea Warlords, and Koby came to be known as the "Hero".”
Also, read @1000sunnygo’s reflection! It’s interesting as always.

Losing respect for a video game essayist YouTuber over how he interprets and presents Ghermin in bloodborne.
Specifically Gehrman’s relationship with The Doll and thus his relationship with Maria…
Like… if I told you an old guy made a person sized doll you’d already be “that’s sketch”. If I told you that doll looked like a young woman and was his only companion you’d be “…that doesn’t make it better.” Then I tell you that this doll was made to look like one of HIS STUDENTS! You’d want to stop hanging out with me because “why do you know this guy?”
“You’re welcome to use whatever you find. …even the doll, should it please you…”
Who hears this and sees this as anything other than unhealthy obsession and objectification? Who sees this and interprets it as ‘love’?
Like even before figuring out the whole *waves spooky tendrils around* that is Bloodborne… I want to kill Ghermin so The Doll has some company that isn’t an eternally old man in a blood pact with the moon who created her with the sole purpose of fulfilling his creepy fantasies.
#wurds#bloodborne#gods I want a PC port so bad!#also maybe a retranslation? fromsoft has a rocky translation history#with the initial release of Dark Souls being very clunky#it’s no where near as bad but with a story like bloodborne little details getting fudged can mess with it

New pressing idea
This post by @greeneyedsigma made me think back to Whitebeard (Edward Newgate), and Law.
I had a vague idea before (cf Trouble in Paradise and Coeur de Pirate), but I want to push it further. Why ?
Because I vicerally hate the thought of the Whitebeard Pirates losing. Hearing they lost the Payback War hurts my gut. I don't want to hear that. It has been like that since I first saw the report.
Today I asked myself why. Why do I hate the idea so much ? Because I love them, sure, but also because the ones we see afterwards (Marco, Izou) are in too good shape for losing in a desperate attempt to avenge their family. They are also too calm about it.
I liked that possibility, so I latched on to it. So it wasn't a desperate attempt to avenge their family. Or it wasn't only that.
When is a defeat not a loss? When objectives have been reached.
So what was/were the objective(s) then ?
Oh! This completes a vague picture nicely.
So stay tuned for new ideas, this is the new top of my writing list.
I'm writing about the Rocky Payback Port War Incident.
(ideas so far : inspiring orders and speech by Marco, a drabble or a drabble tryptic in French with word plays on Sans Coeur/Cent Coeurs because I cannot make that work in English, The Retreat/Falling back. )
I think this will be in the background music list for writing. For this to work... how they must have loved him!

Could it be that luffy is actually able to float because he is made of gum? Maybe he could imagine having/turning into a life saver... meaning that he could potentially be safe from the drowning. It hasnt happened yet cause he is just now learning everything he can imagine he can materialize and hasnt drown since Wano (which in my opinion is a little suspicious since he drown and "magically" appeared on the coast, safe and sound. Same as Lin Lin... how the heck did they survive? Did luffy turn the sea into gum without knowing while drowning?) Yet, who knows? It might have been some creature underneath or maybe even the sea itself... you know "Mother Sea" has given so many things to those deserving of it... ace and the mera mera, uta and the den den mushi, nami to bellmere, etc 👀
Edit: Wait, what if when everyone is drowning, luffy acts somehow as Zuunesha for the people? Turning big, even more than vs Kaido? Helping them crawl on him... maybe becoming a one piece of soil for the people to survive the flooding/sinking?
#since i predicted shanks being part of a knight system/family#the rocky port being part of hachinosu and be heavily involved with law and sword#zoro having the skimotsuki genes coming from a woman#zoro having haki waaay back arabasta#the flooding / sinking of the op world a long ago im feeling confident to theorize more and more 😌#i just love theories#one piece theory#one piece#luffy#nika#sun god nika

Law novel sequel's title will be "Novel Law: The Hour of Kikoku" (Kikoku no Toki).
... or 'The Time of Kikoku', 'Hour' just sounded catchier.
It's going to be a multichaptered spinoff, the upcoming magazine doesn't conclude the story. Here's an update from the official website.
Seems it's the story behind Law acquiring his sword? Sakagami Shusei (Novel Law author) has shared some initial thoughts (the first tweet was before the title revelation).
Felt the last one 🤝
Once again, Oda's involvement is expected to be minimum. It's almost entirely written by Sakagami Shusei, like its prequel.
Let's hope we finally get to know the names of the other members of the Heart pirates!
Nishimura Kinu's sketch seems to hint at Law's interaction with Hakugan, maybe we'll get to know how he got recruited.
#one piece#one piece novel Law#trafalgar law#trafalgar d. water law#heart pirates#mine#if there's another spinoff - maybe sakagami san will be able to cover law's journey all the way to rocky port incident#but I want to it to be saved for a different form of adaptation with more of oda's involvement - like a film or anime exclusive#or a manga side story#anyway I'm really looking forward to read this - mainly bc this is the first novel content I can directly read from japanese#I want to translate even though it'll probably take months to complete - but this time I want to do it myself

One thing that didn’t get added into my last post on the possible futures of Law and the Hearts, are the actual beating hearts that Law gathered and that the navy still possesses of the pirates on Hachinosu, and the fact that it’s a method of control for the navy over 100 men, if they’re trying to free Koby & co (if they’re not successful at escaping).
Like, Teach confirmed those pirates were alive and on the island. We don’t know what roles they play but Teach mentioning them makes it seem they are working with him (will edit in some panels later or make a separate post). Like, the navy gives a heart a squeeze—we’ve seen the pain it causes, and it could also generate panic and fear if the cause of the pain is not located and is seemingly random. Thereby weakening, if not deleting, some of the ranks.
musing!
Danger for the Heart Pirates if they end up on Hachinosu, but also potential for great alliances with Koby, etc.

I'm trying to write my version of the Rocky Port incident in a fanfiction at the moment (Poppy's Tears) and I know what happens in my version, but if new info gets released, I want to adapt and include it.
The standoff between Law and Blackbeard a few chapters ago had given me hope and then left me without anything to work with. The latest chapter is giving me hope again, but if I wait then I can't continue with the story.
Does someone have words of wisdom for me?
