In Australia we don’t have guard dogs, we have guard spiders... On the front verandah to have my morning coffee and find this Huntsman. Not specifically sure the exact type as it’s estimated that around 155 huntsman spider species are found throughout Australia in the family ‘Sparassidae’. They usually live under rocks and cracks in tree bark, but will quite often wander indoors, into both homes and vehicles. They move extremely quickly, at almost lightning speed, travelling at top speeds of around 30 body lengths/second. Huntsman spiders are aptly names as they are roam around and hunt for prey, foraging rather than web building. Their diet is made up of insects (and other invertebrates) and occasionally even small lizards. Huntsman spiders rarely bite humans since they rely on their speed to evade most predators. They are generally a non-aggressive group of spiders and will run away given the chance. The bite of a Huntsman spider is only mildly toxic and of pretty low risk to humans. However, a large Huntsman would have large fangs and therefore can deliver quite a deep painful bite. Most bites to humans are a quick defensive nips, usually without injecting venom but it would still hurt! If you do find a big spider in your house or in your car, it may shock you but please just remain calm! It isn’t going to hurt you and is probably much more afraid of you! Use a small container or something similar and try to scoop the spider up into the container and release it outside or if it is close to the door gently prompt it outside with a newspaper or a broom. Alternatively you could just leave it be! Made this one for my friend Ed (@itzawork). Opted for his casual gear in his @zubaz swag. Even threw in a @daysofthedead13 staff lanyard, this figure is perfectly Ed, LOL. I used an Eric Bischoff figure that I always called Karate Bischoff, from one of his Cyber Sunday appearances. Switched out the hands, painted the designs, used a Tazz head with added beard & a bandana out of a cut knee pad. Il fantastico mondo di Joe Dever arriva sul Nintendo Switch eShop grazie alla software house italiana Forge Reply che ha i meriti di aver sviluppato e ora rimasterizzato l’unico videogioco basato sulla serie dei librogame di Lupo Solitario.

Lupo Solitario è una collana di romanzi fantasy del tipo librogame (un romanzo non lineare, molto popolare durante gli anni 80 e 90, che mette il lettore nei panni del personaggio principale, un libro che va letto in base alle scelte che chi legge fa iniziando la storia) ideata e scritta dal compianto Joe Dever, autore di romanzi e giochi di ruolo britannico. Il buon Dever ha avuto un ottimo rapporto con l’Italia grazie alle sue molteplici partecipazioni al celebre Lucca Comics & Games.

Joe Dever’s Lone Wolf è un gioco di ruolo dove il giocatore veste i panni di Lupo Solitario, l’ultimo dei cavalieri Kai di Sommerlund, unico sopravvissuto all’invasione degli antichi nemici del Regno, i Signori delle Tenebre di Helgedad. Dopo i pericolosi incarichi da parte di Re Ulnar V, dopo il mago traditore e l’annientamento del Signore delle Tenebre Zagarna, Lupo Solitario ha ricevuto il meritato riconoscimento di Conte di Sommerlund e protettore del Regno.

L’avventura inizia nella Foresta Sommersa, appena fuori Rockstarn, dove Lupo Solitario viene a sapere della presenza di un gran numero di Giak (servitori dei Signori delle Tenebre) proprio ai confini della contea. Lupo Solitario, Signore di Rockstarn, ha il dovere di proteggere il villaggio e il suoi abitanti…ma sarà troppo tardi!

Joe Dever’s Lone Wolf è una nuova avventura ambientata nel mondo creato da Dever, il Magnamund, e ricalca quelli che erano i librogame di un tempo (che ebbero un discreto successo anche in Italia). La storia del gioco è stata scritta dallo stesso Joe Dever e riprende in parte i fatti accaduti della longeva serie de Il Lupo Solitario. Il gioco/digital book è diviso in 4 tomi e ha due tipi di gameplay, il primo da libro digitale con puzzle e scelte da compiere, simile a una visual novel, mentre il secondo da strategico a turni.

Il giocatore è chiamato a leggere un incredibile romanzo digitale, accompagnato da una colonna sonora tranquilla che non infastidisce la lettura, composto da fantastiche illustrazioni disegnate a mano e, proprio come un librogame, da una trama non lineare con le scelte del giocatore a creare in real-time la narrazione dello stesso! La parte sinistra dello schermo è riservata al testo da leggere mentre quella destra alla mappa o alle caratteristiche di Lupo (a seconda di cosa volete consultare). Premendo il tasto X apparirà un’interfaccia dove consultare diario, opzioni e tanto altro.

Ad impreziosire questo librogame digitale sono le sequenze puzzle e di combattimento! Ricordate che nei librogame siete voi il personaggio principale, se la narrazione vi porterà a dover aprire una porta o un forziere inizierà una sequenza puzzle (Cubo Shianti compreso) dove armati di grimaldello e pugnale dovrete scassinare quanto richiesto. Interessante anche la grande quantità di scelte che dovrete compiere durante la vostra lettura, scelte che andranno a scrivere un nuovo percorso narrativo (ottimo anche per un fattore rigiocabilità). Lupo potrà vendere o acquistare materiali presso i mercanti che troverà sulla mappa di gioco, inoltre potrà potenziare il suo equipaggiamento con pezzi e materiali che riceverà come ricompensa al termine di una battaglia.

Certo, naturalmente ci sono anche i combattimenti. La lettura vi porterà a scontrarvi con ostili, qui inizierà un gameplay da strategico a turni davvero ben fatto. Una illustrazione sprigionerà l’aspetto fisico di Lupo Solitario creato con una grafica moderna e dal buon impatto visivo. Lo strategico a turni in terza persona inizia. I tasti del Joy-Con destro (o del Pro Controller) sono dedicati alle azioni che Lupo potrà compiere durante il suo turno di mosse (facilmente riconoscibile dal tempo che andrà a scorrere in alto a sinistra, vicino ai punti vita, mana e stamina). I tasti del Joy-Con sinistro sono dedicati invece all’inventario, o meglio alla cintura di Lupo, da cui potrete prendere pozioni per curarvi e altre piccole ampolle.

Le azioni dei combattimenti sono in Quick Time Event, dove il giocatore dovrà premete il tasto giusto al tempo giusto per realizzare un’azione o una determinata mossa speciale.

Tecnicamente, su Nintendo Switch Joe Dever’s Lone Wolf se la cava molto bene, niente cali di frame durante i combattimenti e buona lettura del testo sia in portatile che in TV. Graficamente accattivante, il gioco vanta di un’ottima realizzazione artistica del tomo digitale che andrete a leggere, con illustrazioni disegnate a mano e animate in CG. Essenziale e ben realizzata la traduzione in italiano.

Sfortunatamente, non è compatibile con nessuna features della console (tranne ovviamente con la sua portabilità) come ad esempio il touch-screen che sarebbe servito sia durante la lettura che durante i combattimenti con il Quick Time Event in modalità portatile, peccato. Il gioco è compatibile con la vibrazione standard e con il Pro Controller (con esperienza di gioco invariata).

Joe Dever’s Lone Wolf è sicuramente un arrivo assai gradito sul Nintendo Switch eShop specialmente per gli amanti dei librogame ma anche per chi non ha mai sentito parlare di questa variante dei romanzi. L’universo del Magnamund meriterebbe più spazio e noi videogiocatori nintendari accogliamo a braccia aperte questa opera letteraria interattiva sviluppata da una software house italiana e scritta dallo stesso Joe Dever prima della sua sfortunata scomparsa!

Joe Dever’s Lone Wolf è disponibile in digitale sul Nintendo Switch eShop da venerdì 16 febbraio 2018 al prezzo promozionale di €12.74 (fino ad oggi, 15 febbraio 2018) invece dei €14.99. Il gioco occupa 2.9 GB su console o microSD

Feeding time for the Geckos!!🦎🦎 Say hello to the Marbled Gecko (Christinus marmoratus). They are nocturnal, insectivorous lizards native to Australia and found from northeastern New South Wales to southwestern Western Australia. They are commonly found living in aggregations (or clusters) of up to 10 individuals, mainly containing only one male. Most geckos are observed to engage in territorial behaviour, it is surprising that these guys don’t. It has been suggested that this could be related to mating success, increased vigilance and protection, or simply attraction to high-quality habitat. Fully regenerated tails are can be recognised by an abrupt change in skin colouring and pattern at the point of the original fracture. (One of these guys has lost his tail before because his new tail has yet to develop the black marbles pattern and is lighter than the rest of his body) Geckos and legless lizards are the only reptiles that can vocalise with tweets or chirps (other reptiles just hiss). However these guys will rarely vocalise unless under attack where they will squeak and squeal.
