A solitary stork has decided to build its nest in the most perilous of locations: a tall and narrow rock outcropping. The faint rays of an early sunrise serve to highlight the whitecaps that are ripping along the shoreline. This photo was taken by Nuno Lu铆s in the聽Southwest Alentejo and Vicentine Coast Natural Park聽of Portugal.

Exploration at Mexican Hat Rock by Mark Stevens Via Flickr: At a pullout along U.S. Route 163 with a view looking to the east-southeast to the namesake formation. My thought on composing the image was to zoom in with the focal length and center as best I could the formation itself, while using the backdrop of the Raplee Ridge (Navajo Indian Reservation) off in the distance. I liked the backdrop of blue skies above as I felt it acted as a color contrast to complement the earth-tones in the lower portion of the image.

"A Rocky Rise" by Carl Evans, 2023
Carl Evans shot this full moon photo from Broadhaven, Pembrokeshire. The outcropping in the middle is known as Church Rock. The image consists of two photos stacked to show the moon through the clouds and the birds in flight around Church Rock. "I stood on the beach at Broadhaven for a couple of hours waiting for the Moon to rise. The clouds initially hid the Moon and as I was walking away it appeared among the clouds, adding a nice effect over it," Evans said of the photoshoot.

Malcolm Canmore's Tower, Dunfermline, Scotland
Like many historic cities, there is often a through line to the ancient past. Here in the ruins of the 11th Century CE Canmore's Tower, is perhaps a hint of a more ancient fortification?

there seem to be a lot of birds in the necropolis, notably one of the few living things other than the watchers you find down there. (population (living): birds beetles and burial nerds.) so my theory is that some flavour of sky burial definitely is on the menu so to speak should the deceased desire it

at work we recently got our pollinator demonstration rock garden certified as a backyard habitat with the audubon society and today I had to ask a whole gaggle of children to stop racing around in it trampling literally everything :|

the worst part of playing far cry 5 is when you're alone in the wilderness doing side quests, maybe a little hunting and fishing, appreciating the scenery...
and then suddenly, starting faint and building up, always just on the cusp of hearing, you hear the echoing sound of "only you..."
