I'm selling off my untouched Robotech RPG Tactics minis as I prep for my move. There's 32 minis, a smattering a different kinds of veritechs, destroids, and zentradi battlepods.
If you're interested, here's the ebay link. If you know anyone else who would be, I'd appreciate it if you'd let them know.

Robotech RPG Tactics: RIP 2013-2018
So, overnight UK & US-time Palladium updated the Robotech RPG Tactics page with these two doozies:
https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/rrpgt/robotech-rpg-tacticstm/posts/2120399 https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/rrpgt/robotech-rpg-tacticstm/posts/2124551
The long and short of it is Kevin Siembieda has admitted that before shipping the Wave 1 rewards to backers they did not believe that they had enough money to complete Wave  2,  and were relying on retail sales to make up the shortfall. As this did not happen Palladium have been, in essence, lying to backers for 5 years as to the status of this project. They have also just lost the licence for Robotech so will not be able to fulfill ANY of the remaining rewards for this campaign, but are offering backers an exchange of remaining pledge credit against existing Wave 1 product with some caveats: Backers must process this before the 20th of March at which point any existing Robotech stock will be liquidized, backers must pay shipping costs for any product, and the exchange rate is, frankly, garbage.
I would invite anyone interested in seeing how NOT to run Kickstarter fulfillment to go back over the updates for this project, and marvel at the breathtaking arrogance of Palladium and their President/Owner. (just don’t click on any of the main-page embedded links as they now go to malware sites- no, I’m not kidding. That’s how bad this project went off the rails)

(Update 217 is also educational) https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/rrpgt/robotech-rpg-tacticstm/posts/2120399 At least this shitshow is finally over. Summary of what’s come out of this in the past few days: • Harmony Gold pulled the license. This is important, because (as a few of you know) RRPGT started out as a fan-game and Palladium ran a hostile takeover of said game about halfway through the Kickstarter. So, in theory, it could be salvaged. Unfortunately, I suspect the well is too poisoned to try, but at least new minis will be an option either now, or in three years when HG fucking finally loses the last scrap of the license they don’t really have but defend to the death (it’s complicated). • As most of us suspected, good ol’ Kevin Sembieda decided to spend all the Kickstarter money on a third of the product and hope it paid for the rest (AKA run a pyramid scheme). • The amount of money needed/missing is within ~250k of the amount embezzled from the company shortly after the Kickstarter closed. Money that mysteriously stopped being needed a few months thereafter. BUT THAT IS A COINCIDENCE AMIRITE. • “It’s cool guys, you can trade in your remaining cash value for the models we still have pallets of in the back room. You know, the ones for an unsupported game with less than a third of the units. And you have to pay shipping. That’s as good as a refund, right?” • “Right?” • “Oh shit” • ALL of the RRPGT stuff is getting pulled from RPGnow and the “officialish” sites that are left. Grab it now if you want to play. It’s.. not actually a bad  game, despite the literally criminal mishandling it got from Palladium. Carmen did a good job of cleaning up the beta rules. • They’re going to have to liquidate everything by Mar. 20th. If you want hypercheap Destroids, grab ‘em in a week or so when the dumpsales start..

“Do you ever get buyer’s remorse?”
Only every time I buy a game. For me, over $20 for a product is a big investment - I can count on my hands the number of > $100 purchases I have ever made, so that miserly bit comes out the moment I walk out the door with a big box of plastic and cardboard in my hands.
Still, buying a big box-set of plastic minis for just the minis may be a bad start.  Not going to lie, while the VF-1A Valkyrie is my favorite mech of all time, I tried Palladium’s Robotech game at GenCon this year, (Or was it last year already? It is January now after all...) and was not extremely impressed.
...even so, I picked up the base box from the local shop today because I’m addicted to the plastic crack.
So let’s get down to that unboxing!
Tumblr media
...oh dear...
...that’s... Not organized at all.
Tumblr media
I was going to do a full breakdown later, (as my table is still covered in my latest miniature misadventure,) but after a cursory inspection, I broke out all the pieces.  Turns out out there’s a few problems.
Just in glancing through, some minis are double-booked on sprues, the scout pod and officer battlepod namely. This is not a good idea - there’s already enough pieces on a sprue that you really don’t want to be confusing people with different models on the same sprue. This also precludes the ability to sell the double-booked individually or in different groups.
The minis themselves, while respectable, are not too impressive, especially considering the detail you can get into resin these days. Also, coming down from putting together Warhammer and Dropfleet minis with their half-ton sprues, these feel awfully... Flimsy. I really shouldn’t say that - they are adequate, but there is that unfortunate connection after coming off something so (excessively,) weighty.
The assembly instructions are light - one sheet for all, plus instructions for the Phalanx and Spartan, which are an expansion. (Makes me worry that there may be no instructions in that box.)
There was at least one of the included dice with an odd... Protrusion. (Not sure how you could mess up a plastic cube bad enough to look like a comet.)
Also, the manifest lists “15 Veritech Valkyries; 5 Each in Fighter, Guardian, and Battleroid modes.” In the pack is five individual sprues each for the Guardian and Fighter modes, then thee double-sprues for the Battleroid.  So technically there’s an extra?
But that’s not the big deal breaker here.
Tumblr media
...Read the manifest: 2 Defender Destroids, 2 Tomahawk Destroids. Box contains: 4 Defender Destroids, (two per sprue,) 0 Tomahawk Destroids.
Brand-new plastic-wrapped box, and they derped the contents.  Considering I really was buying this just for the minis, I’m rather pissed off I’m missing one of them, and a classic one at that. I’d be pissed if they forgot one of the horde of Battlepods, but nooooo they had to forget the Warhammer Tomahawk!
Uninteresting game, poor packaging, can’t even get contents right - would not buy again.

I'm not even surprised in the least that Palladium couldn't deliver on the Robotech game because they have such a garbage history

This is the Zentraedi sourcebook (1987), the third book in the Robotech RPG series. It’s another skinny one. As the introduction states, “We take a closer look at their lives, tactics, weapons, mecha and space cruisers.” The focus is clearly on the tech and not on their weird hair. Or the fact that they are 60 feet tall? Though the villains of the first phase of the cartoon, it is later revealed that they are a clone slave race developed by the Robotech Masters. I think.
What I do know is that I like the Zentraedi mecha — little pods on two legs, sort of like an AT-ST from Star Wars. I really can’t wrap my head around them being 60 feet tall. Was that in Macross? I really don’t remember that!
I’m warming up to Peter Simon’s art. I really like the views of the Zentraedi mecha cockpits, that’s a nice touch — consoles like that are often overlooked.

Reactions unfolded one after the other for me off a bit of news that a Kickstarter-funded project to make miniature Robotech models for an RPG wargame had run out of all the money I remembered seeing it had raised and wouldn't ship everything promised. First of all, of course...

Robotech RPG Tactics, Wave Two of Talking
Robotech RPG Tactics, Wave Two of Talking
While I continue to work on new Puddles and Whiskers with a focus on a new story I have paid attention to rumblings over on the Robotech RPG Tactics Kickstarter. Yes, that thing is still ongoing. I know right, how is it possible that after 3+ years a project that has shown ZERO proof of progress could still be active? Seems all you as a creator has to do to avoid ANY action at all by Kickstarter…

Got all four of my warhammers painted this weekend, and figured it would be cool to post photos to show them off, and show some of how the miniature versions of the same mech have changed over the decades. The one to the far left is a classic 90s one that was beat up and missing pieces when I bought it off Ebay about ten years ago. I hung onto it all that time and only in the past two weeks did I "restore" it as a pirate mech I call Sledgehammer. The two middle ones are destroids from the Robotech RPG Tactics kickstarter assembled on 3d printed hex bases to replicate that classic "unseen" look. The one to the far right is a Warhammer done in the new Catalyst / MWO style. I think the new stuff is pretty cool, but my heart will always be with the older classic designs from when I was a kid. https://www.instagram.com/p/CZqbIJGreC4/?utm_medium=tumblr

So it's been a while since I did a minis post, so I thought I'd show the current project. Taking a break from D&D minis, I cracked open the "Robotech: RPG Tactics" box that I got from the game's Kickstarter. It has four Destroids, five Valkyre Veritech fighters (shown in Fighter, Guardian, and Battleoid modes) 12 Zentraedi pods, one Zentraedi officer pod, one Zentraedi recon pod, and one Zentraedi recovery pod. They most annoyingly difficult figures I have ever assembled. Too many fiddly bit, difficult contact points, and awkward poses dragged the assembly phase of this project out waaaay too long. Did I mention there were no instructions for assembly? Just one sheet of paper with basic "mash-together" diagrams for each figure. I had to go online to get actual instructions. The figure have several instance in poor sculpting/design schema. For example the torso for the Battleoids (picture 3) came in four pieces when they could have been easily molded with two. And don't get me started on the decals Not something I would recommend, even if the game itself plays well. Hopefully the folks at Palladium and Ninja Division improved on this since the game was first created.

Destroids: Fiddly. Battle pod: Shitty.
I was annoyed by the little bits and bad instructions when putting together my Tomahawks and VF-1s, but moving to the Zentraedi side of the equation... Well, I really don’t want to continue.
The rather cheap plastic snapped many times taking these off the sprues, breaking all manner of arials.
Despite the larger sculpt, tiny pieces were still left seperate, continuing to point out how unconsident Palladium was with their sprue casting being able to put any manner of depth onto the chassis.  At least one searchlight is hiding in some corner of my living room from when I tried to hold on to it and clean off the remnants of sprue attachment.
Oh, and the part fit?  What part fit?  After fiddling with these parts, and losing some along the way, I got tired of having to carve down every single plug, and just let the radar spinned on the scout pod rely on glue alone to hold it into place.  Nothing fit together - there was too much plastic on every single joint.
Might just try to sell the rest of the Battlepods, and just keep the SDF.

Robotech RPG Tactics
We're back and this time Patrick is joined by returning champion Grant from Blade Licking Thieves to examine the long and unfortunate story of Palladium Books' Robotech RPG Tactics, which recently announced would not be receiving it's planned second wave and that the company is losing the Robotech license.
