Why Doll perfectly exemplifies all of the strengths and flaws of Murder Drones as a series.

From the amount of posts present on my blog about the specific individual, it is rather obvious to assume that Doll Yurikova (I'm still convinced the fandom made up this surname) is my favourite character from Murder Drones and you wouldn't be wrong.

She just simply tickles my needy scratch for weird, cool complex villainess characters.

However, eventually I also realised that she more than any other character embodies everything that makes murder drones a great show and everything that detracts the show from being genuinely amazing.

Let's start off with the good, anything I say applies to the both of them:

Doll/Murder drones are generally cool, unconventionally attractive, have great potential (this point will be elaborated upon) and are very complex in both the themes that they bring to the table and the philosophical standpoints discussed.

Coolness factor is mostly subjective, but I am sure any Murder drones fan will tell you that the sci-fi/horror/mystery/romance/comedy show about sentient cannibalistic robots who fight against eldritch atrocities with Portal 2-esque music is an absolute blast conceptually and visually. In the same way the russian robo vampire who was previously a cheerleader before deciding to commit cannibalism to avenge her dead parents has swarms of fans simping for her.

Unconventionally attractive is determined by unconventional people, said people also have rewatched the show seventeen different times.

Now, regarding the great potential, although I've also elaborated the previous points, this is one that will carry over when discussing the negatives of both the character and the show, but as for positive, you can just feel that Murder Drones is so much different from anything else you have ever watched, it truly gives me haunted Ghibli vibes in the way the story plays out. It could really be amazing. As for Doll, every time I watch her in the show up to her death I just get really sad thinking about what could have been if she had a redemption arc or just a better life in general.

Murder drones has abuse as his main theme and how it circulates into destructive chains and Doll is definitely one of the more interesting examples of said theme, being part of the abused and mauled drone designation that became an abuser herself. I say one of the more interesting examples because her story is fleshed out better than someone else's, say Tessa or Alice.

And now for the negatives, we need to bring out the big elephant in the room:

The show is only 8 episodes long and they are writing the season one finale in the same way you would write a series finale since making Murder drones costs Glitch a crap ton of money when they could just lower the animation quality and allow the story more time to breathe (mind you this is also Liam Vickers fault). I just hate the 8 episodes 20 minute long formula, it has, in my opinion, destroyed modern show telling and I honestly can't bear it any longer.

Besides that, 8 episodes of 20 minutes means that Doll's arc has to be paced quickly in order to get all the other characters (particularly the main ones) and elements to shine and that unfortunately leads to the fact that both Doll and Murder drones lack the one thing that separates Doll from being a human being and Murder Drones from being an amazing show, and that thing is (drum rolls) the tissue.

To explain, they have the (exo)skeleton, the organs, the mandibles and all the things that would make a piece of fiction feel truly human, but without the connective tissue, the skin, they both end up just short of those standards and as a result I can't confidently say that they are truly evocative individuals. Tissue of course is a metaphor for quote on quote "filler" in regards to the show and "villain at rest" moments in regards to Doll and her arc. And let's talk about the ending of said arc because of its possibility of paralleling the conclusion of the show;

You can say a lot of things about Doll's death but one thing that's impossible to deny is the impact of her death in your mind, everything about its execution is just so brutal that it leaves you a lasting feeling in your body; in a similar manner, the show could end with an absolute gut punch that remains impressed in your mind for months to come.

My favorite interpretation of MD is that:

Nori: Unhinged woman who can see the future, was an experiment relating to an Eldritch god, got possessed by said Eldritch god and caused a literal genocide and later acted like nothing happened. May or may have not committed cannibalism. Is traumatized.

Yeva: Incredibly traumatized woman who probably witnessed things that would even make the devil scared. Was also an experiment related to said Eldritch god. Caused a massive amount of gravitational force to be detected at some point, perhaps killed a man or more. May or may have not committed cannibalism. Also got her eye blown off/stabbed in the middle of an interview. Also knows more than she lets on.

So you know how in g1 the insecticons were like half feral cause they got stuck in the earth wilderness and they eat scrap? Well what if a seeker gets shot down over Insecticon territory and they just rip them apart. It takes a while, and the con is online nearly the whole time, not able to fight back as they're mercilessly torn apart to be used as fuel. In some way it's a noble death, they aid the deception cause by powering these clearly superior mechs. Maybe they start to realize that while they're barely cognizant, when their processor is chugging slowly just to keep life sustaining functions online. Maybe they lean into it, or at least they try to. Maybe they want to succumb to being eaten, to fulfill their final duty to the deceptions. Or maybe it's just their body giving up and their brain's final reaction is to end it as soon as possible when they finally come to terms with the fact they won't live through this.

To the Insecticons there is no moral introspection or interest, it's just another day. Today they were dropped an especially filling meal and they get to enjoy how lucky they were. That seeker wasn't another mech to them, just something that would fill them up. They'll be forgotten just like any other fuel source and that would be the end of it, and the Insecticons are stronger for the loss -🌱

man, the amount of times I think about how the g1 insecticons were seemingly fully able to rip apart and digest metal... they're perfect for cannibalism purposes. They would absolutely eat a stray decepticon that ended up in their little insecticon swamp. A perfect meal, dropped straight from the sky, the metal tastes better than anything they've had down here on Earth and the energon is delicious. They will be stronger after consuming the poor seeker.

He can barely hear anything.

In his hunger fueled frenzy, all he can focus on is the crawling in his tank, and the warmth of precious fuel source in his intake. Tear, swallow, chew, and repeat. Waspinator uses his claws to tear at armor until he can get to the precious soft underbelly, mandibles working to cut at soft protoform.

He knows he is covered in gore, can feel it, knows he’ll be sticky come the end of it, but that is all faint thought in the back of his processor. For the first time in a long time, he has a proper meal that isn’t half ripe berries or something he found on the ground. He eats, until he can’t quite, anymore, tank fit to burst. And that is when he comes back to himself, servos absently wiping at his faceplate.

Waspinator doesn't know. He teases Waspinator a bit, but he hasn't hurt him. And he helps Waspinator find food without hurting himself. Waspinator trusts him, funny enough.

So he checks around to make sure he's clear before buzzing off towards the location.

yk i’ve talked about spooky month on here before,,once I think showcasing my first gadgetini art of the year (or since 2022)

THE THIEVES 💪💪

These guys have been my favorite since 2020, and it wasn’t until the beginning of the year where I felt I was improving on both my art & writing skills where I’d interfere without feeling i’m mischaracterizing the 2

(I actually uploaded some of my recent SM thief stuff 2 tumblr one time,,,buut that was before I decided to restart & delete the 5 year old blog entirety)

(cuz my old stuff from them,,,additionally from 2021 & 2022 where I had a really bad “edgy” phase was NOT good i’ll say that)

most of the headcanons I have written for them are archived somewhere in my now fidget-focused rp account, but I can try & paraphrase most of what I have to present other than roleplay

Barton “Barry” Gómez (Fat Thief), and Eugene “Euan” Gómez (Thin Thief) are the duo thieves of the neighborhood; Barry being 32 and Eugene being 34. They’re both brothers, close ones at that. Even with the 2 year difference it’s always been as if they were the closest friends they could have.

They both were the previous son’s of Richard, 20 years before Roy came along (more than likely in his 50’s now). Richard had another partner before Carmen, but they never got along as well as he hoped..he took it upon himself to take care of both of the boys whenever him & his old girlfriend partner. Barton doesn’t remember much of his mother besides playing with her whenever he was young; Euan only remembers her consistent fighting with Richard most of the time now.

The thieves are unaware of Richard’s new life, having both moving out for collage (and independency mostly) at that early adult age (18/20 respectively for the both of them) they’re both been they’re only source of family sense, being roomies for as long as they can remember with each house/area they move/hide into. The only thing that is known is that Richard’s been having a better life with his new wife..additionally with them not knowing it’s Carmen (more than likely they’ve tried robbing her before) AND not knowing that makes them related to some kid named “Roy” in some way.

It was Eugene who first got into the habit of thievery; with him thinking it would be good financial help for the 2 of them, and just liking the thrill in general. With Barry being the youngest, he ended up picking up that habit alongside him. With how long they’ve been doing it around the neighborhood, it was surprising to hear them both getting relatively popular under local news reports..only having full realization after someone deliberately order a heist for them to hit off. AKA: the RUMORED CULT hiring them to rummage through the attic of a house they’ve already failed stealing from. They already had good enough of a grip of how dangerous the group could be; given how they escaped jail in the first place with help from famous Bob Velseb; the reanimated cannibal that was ALIVE because of the cult (they didn’t have that great of a relationship with him in-and-out of the prison..) Barry was more unsure on the deal, not wanting to be wrapped deep under more garbage for the future. Eugene? They were paying good, he couldn’t let go of that offer (it would’ve payed off they’re apartment bills🎉🎉) Alongside the duo they were hired with the Candydealer, him acting more as some information giver-mentor hybrid for the two. Trying to keep them in order from fear or hesitation so they don’t “run out of luck”

Barton is a Gay man, & Euan is Bisexual as well btw 🫡🫡
