DnD classes and alignment Jack and Joker
Thanks to a tag by @solarpirates calling Jack out as an Oathbreaker Paladin a few weeks ago, I have been working on this alignment chart along with some classes for this adventure BL.
Jack - Oathbreaker Paladin (formerly Devotion and Redemption respectively)- Lawful Good
Currently, in his space as an Oathbreaker he’s operating on an evil thread but it’s not who he is overall. In fact, Jack started the show as an Oath of Devotion Paladin - fighting as a knight in shining armor, wanting to protect and uplift his people. He was forced to break this oath the first time he joined Boss. However, under that first track, he found a new path, Oath of Redemption, believing anyone could be saved given the right tools and forgiveness and this became how he operated under Boss for years, working in counter to Boss’s evil in the ways he could.
He does believe in rule and order and general kindness. His want is to improve life for the people around him, whether they’re his or not.
Hoy - Beast-master Ranger - Neutral Good
His favored terrain is urban and his beast of choice is a car. He rolled a nat one survival check for finding the right bathroom in the dark…which is why he has his current job. Hoy operates both in the bounds of order (lawful) and occasionally outside of it (chaotic) but does believe in altruism and kindness in his core.
Ama - Neutral Good
I don’t know what Ama’s class was. Sometimes she gives monk. But grandma is neither lawful or chaotic but somewhere in between. But she’s good. She does everything for the betterment of the people around her, including her Joke.
Joke - Mastermind Rogue - Chaotic Good
His alignment feels out of place with his class, but that’s because Joke’s particular brand of roguishness is entirely grounded in his disdain of the wealthy and his own robin-hood style thievery. He falls into mastermind instead of straight thief because he uses knowledge, secrets and favors as well as his proficiency with disguise, to pull off his jobs.
He pulls out a costume in order to go try and talk his dad into taking up grandma’s surgery. The once a thief always a thief didn’t help when he had the opportunity to steal for Jack sent him right back in.
Save - Abjuration Wizard - True Neutral
Save is terrifying in many ways because he is true neutral. The thing about evil-aligned people is they are predictable in their cruelty, their disdain for others. Chaotic people are chaotic because they don’t live by order and rule, but it’s predictable that they will scorn order. Save is terrifying because as a true neutral aligned character, he can operate in any alignment as he chooses when he chooses and the reasons are entirely tied to what matters to Save and not a response to the world at large.
I’m going with abjuration wizard because his focus is protecting Hope, and the way he wrote the contracts entirely protect Boss and not the customer.
Aunt Nang - Divination Wizard - True Neutral
I had her pegged as Boss’s sister early and I am so glad I was right. She was my unknown but the last two have pushed me to the true neutral stance. She like Save is dangerous because she can operate in any alignment and often does. Sometimes she leans chaotic and sometimes she wants order, like with her temple. The plans she and Boss have and the difference in their aims to get revenge for their parents. I believe sometimes she wants to be benevolent but she was the push behind the stealing of the ring and the reason the four little pigs got away with it at all, and then immediately regretted it.
She has some visions of the future and uses her various means of fortune telling to support her aims.
Aran - College of Glamour Bard - Neutral (evil at the start but making his moves toward good)
Upon meeting Aran, our boy is selling beauty and glamour with a ruthless disdain for other people. Arab can weave a pretty picture of wealth for others to desire. He uses his power and money to abuse others to get what he wants. He works within certain order being his father’s son, but doesn’t mind a certain level of chaos.
He’s speed running the alignment chart from evil to good though and I’ve never been prouder. The way Aran stood up to his father over Hope, how he is with Tattoo when it comes to the product, and his insistence in being part of the team helping Jack. He was very excited to be part of the school and while he did try to run from seeing his father, he still joined the crew for everything.
Tattoo - Battle Smith Artificer- Chaotic Neutral
Impulsive and often operating outside of rule and order of society - the initial plans to steal, first from Joke and later from Boss was his idea, as was the impulsive decisions to take the necklace twice. Tattoo also is not religious like his mother and doesn’t fall into the concept of a world ordered by gods. His spy car is definitely his version of a Steel Defender and the shock of the bag definitely falls into the arcane jolt category. He’s not building things specifically to cause harm, but largely to mitigate the harm to the people that matter to him. A talented artificer who operates on his own code.
Hope - Way of Shadows Monk - Lawful Evil (but can be pushed neutral I believe)
Maybe it’s because we often see Hope enter from the shadows or cloaked in shadows, but he does like to use some element of surprise in his fighting. I’ve chosen monk for Hope because his fighting doesn’t by in large seem to come from rage. There’s a peace to him when he gets violent that makes him terrifying.
When operating as an extension of Boss, Hope falls into the evil end of the axis. He delights in violence. However, when it comes to Save (and to a lesser extent Aran) Hope operates from a neutral stance where his choices are related to his personal relationships.
Boss/Alice - Lesser Devil - Lawful Evil
Boss Alice is by the book and in doing so delights in the ruination of others. He works in favors and trades. Anyone who falls, well it’s their fault. He is the devil whom has made Jack break his oath and he will utilize various pawns in his games.
Rose - Neutral Evil
Rose wishes she was Neutral Good, and I think she could be true neutral if she wanted to, but she plays too much. She cosplays being altruistic but her aims are about herself, and getting what she wants. She plays within and without the rules, all to get her own aims with a level of callousness that puts her above It’s how she ruthlessly outbids Aran for the necklace and then she and Nang used the theft to purchase Jack for Rose. She actively chose to play the Golden Ladder to Heaven game knowing that Lampang very well might be playing with peoples lives because it was a better option for her personally. She sees little problem with the suffering of others and wants to celebrate her own wins.
You could be better, Rose, and you want to tell yourself that you are. But you’re not.
Lampang - Lesser Demon - Chaotic Evil
This son-of-a-bastard. Sure there are rules but they’re not predictable. They’re not orderly. They’re wherever works for Lampang in the fucking moment. He’s unconscionably cruel and delights in the suffering of everyone around him. When the rules don’t work for him, he wants to skirt them.

More memes be upon yee
Harley Quinn and Luffy would be best friends (right after Cass) and they can kill the Joker together.
Luffy would also eat Batburger out of business
Also the first to realise the Bats secret identities would be Zoro (other than Cass), because he always recognises a swordsman anywhere and after that it was easy to figure out the rest
Other possible Spiderman meme The Casses
Honestly, the Strawhats probably meet Harely once and then go hunt the Joker for sport. Cass, Zoro or Robin are the most likely to find him because Oracle Power, Zoro's ability to end up in weird places, and Robin's Devil Fruit respectively
Cass gets Jason to make Bruce pay for Luffy's Batburger addiction while they wait for their money from books to start rolling in
Harley & Ivy and Luffy & Cass would be such a great squad. I think they'd all get along. Luffy can talk to Ivy about his bugs (which are super important for the environment). Harley can actually get Cass to talk about their issues. Harley and Luffy would be Harley and Luffy, while Ivy and Cass watch and smile about their chaotic neutral/good partners
Oh definitely, Zoro would recognize Damian as Robin and put the rest together. Robin would also be quick to figure it our me thinks (Luffy would never figure it out unless outright told)

Which of the 16 main archetypes are you?
tagged by @cloudofbutterflies92 and @starcrossedspirit
Claire
The Outlaw
You're fiercely independent with a sense of self that keeps you from bending to societal constraints. Okay, so you don't make a lot of friends, but the ones you do have are loyal and have similar values. Other characters do resent you, but they have a secret jealously of your freedom and absolute disregard for their hierarchies. For example, the Sheriff of Nottingham (from Robin Hood) expresses his hidden envy of a life that he could never have. Other outlaws in literature are Roux from Chocolat by Joanne Harris, and Maurice Leblanc’s Arsène Lupin.
Well, what better way to describe claire if not as a neutral character who's independent and tends to break the rules and rebel to authorities figures even in different AUs? It fits perfectly with her chaotic neutral alignment as well
Dmitry
The Villain
You should be happy you're getting this. Instead, you just nod and stare at your device blankly before clicking off to another quiz. The person who said all villains are created by villains was correct. You were innocent once. The world spit in your face, then was offended when you spit right back. Your only (initial) crime was having an objective in conflict to the hero's. Welcome, you are in the presence of Valentine from The Mortal Instruments, Professor Moriarty from the “Sherlock Holmes” stories, and Shere Khan from The Jungle Book.
In some sense it's right, Dmitry is a villain in my story, one of the guys that people should be careful about but would meet their tragic end sooner than later. He is a created villain, formed by the bad things others did to him but it's also true that there is nothing that justifies what he does.

( sabrina carpenter, she/her, cursed blood ) To DAENERYN of VARAEL, the whole world looks like an open page. With a leap of faith, their ability of BLOOD MANIPULATION grows a little stronger. They are a BENGAL CAT shade aligned to HOUSE of VANITAS. For TWENTY-FOUR years, they have survived a world of magic with both their TENACITY and SADISM. They work as a HEAD of VANITAS, but if they could change their fate, they’d want to RAISE HELL WITHOUT CONSEQUENCE. + head of vanitas skeleton
inspo includes the likes of the following: robin hood of english folklore, rebecca of cyberpunk: edgerunners, catra of she-ra and the princesses of power, tinkerbell of peter pan, ryomen sukuna of jujutsu kaisen, goldilocks of puss in boots: the last wish.
&. ⸻ BASICS
name — daeneryn of varael
aliases — daena, the blood witch, the demoness, the desert thorn, princess daeneryn, the devil queen
birthdate — august 13
zodiac — leo
birthplace — the country of varael
sexuality — biromantic homosexual
alignment — chaotic neutral
temperament — choleric
element — fire
primary vice — sloth
primary virtue — temperance
house — vanitas
occupation — head of house vanitas and thief
markings — all these tattoos in various locations
&. ⸻ HEADCANONS
daeneryn recalls nothing of her life before being found by her adoptive family, and though she’ll never admit it aloud unless pressed to the point of irritation perhaps, they mean the absolute world to her
she refers to her dreamshade family as her ‘council of merry men’ now that she’s head of vanitas. her slight obsession with robin hood stops just short of her wearing green tights, though honestly, she knows she’d look amazing in them
she often dons a leather jacket with this insignia present, a gift from her family to commemorate her becoming head of house vanitas
daena’s feat of victory was accomplished not by lineage, but by brutality. a bloody, all-out brawl would range exactly twenty-four hours to determine their new leader, a long-kept secret of the faction meant to keep things ‘fair’ following the loss of their namesake, ruyun vanitas. participants are granted access by invitation only, and there would be no permitted challenge to the victor’s rule for at least three years’ time, per the guidelines
daeneryn would earn the title ‘the devil queen’ as a result of her manner of victory, her body drenched in blood and her feline, dagger-like smile viciously menacing
nobles and similarly well-off individuals have never been in daena’s favor
she doesn’t believe in modesty, and so most of her ‘clothing’ tends to reflect this. like this for example.
she’s never had a first kiss, and she’ll kill anyone who finds out. that said, she knows she favors women over men, most often, in just manner alone
the vanitas stronghold is located deep within the crystal caverns, full of monsters and needless danger and perfectly isolated for the destructive nature of the abilities within. it’s full of medieval flare, several rows of cells that are well used for those who disobey or otherwise annoy the house head, and the audience room resembles something of a graveyard with its scattered remains and throne of skulls. they even have a viking-styled table for meal times and a war table for council meetings. any version of ‘rules’ within the headquarters tends to resemble more of an outlaw brigade mentality these days, which tends to result in the most welcoming of environments, of course
&. ⸻ ABILITY
hemokinesis, or the ability to manipulate blood. daena is quite proficient in this skill, often using it to puppeteer or skewer her enemies. her love of pain allows her to push through the consequences of this gift to only a particular point, with the house head tending to overdo it on most occasions to her detriment. anemia, organ shutdown, coughing up blood, and so on are often the consequences of her pushing beyond her limits so consistently.
&. ⸻ HISTORY
neighboring countries geles and goren, her home country of varael was a corrupted matriarchy full of dragons, thieves, and amazonian-like warriors
just prior to the 100 year disappearance of selphia’s princess, when the boundary ran rampant, varaelians found themselves struggling to keep the upper hand. this was in spite of their phenomenal force and natural abilities, which included the likes of blood manipulators, contract killers, and an army built of undead. as they were primarily an isolationist entity, their request of aid was unusual and in time, wholly denied. their image was monstrous in the eyes of neighboring lands, the sea of blood at their borders troubling to even those of fiercer reputation. a lack of trust, wild accusations from those coveting the resources they hoarded, and gross misinformation stoked fears of eventual betrayal, should anyone come to their defense.
this refusal would set the tone for the kingdom’s behavior going forward, living up to the image the world painted of them despite their efforts to appease and state otherwise. slaying those that crossed their borders — be they human or boundary-oriented — became commonplace. they earned a reputation for themselves as a kingdom of unwarranted destruction and distrust. this would carry on well into the years, even after peace and freedom from the boundary was temporarily achieved. daeneryn’s mother would be crowned in this time, however, and her plans to dispel the fears towards her land and gain allies they could rely on, for the sake of her people and country should the worst occur — as surely their efforts could not be sustained long term — were set in motion. a temporary treaty with selphian royals, specifically, would be established on the grounds that terms were honored and resources were shared. just as the coronation arose, and a young daeneryn and her family set on their way to selphia to showcase their newfound loyalties in a public manner, tragedy would strike through perceived betrayal.
most residents of varael were dissatisfied with even the idea of reliance on anyone other than themselves, and this opinion was actually shared by the queen mother, daeneryn’s step-grandmother and mother to the queen consort. she was permitted the title of ‘queen mother’ as a courtesy, as daena’s own grandmother was no longer present in this world.
nevertheless, a coup was planned to ‘restore the old ways’, shepherded in secret by the queen mother. the intention was to restore the status quo and permit the step-grandmother her time in the light as she believed her daughter-in-law unfit for the task. the death of daena’s mother and most of her larger family was blamed entirely on selphian assassins by royal decree. with daena and her next eldest sister serve as unintended survivors alongside their step-grandmother, with both girls getting separated in the skirmish.
daeneryn knows nothing of her sister’s survival or even the fact that she has one. in fact, her memory starts with her discovery in holograd desert, with nothing of her prior life present in her mind. her dreamshade family, a group comprised of those of actual relation and not, would raise her as their own. traveling the lands committing grand schemes against the needlessly wealthy and acting as outlaws should, they consider selphia a last-ditch effort to restore her memories and remove her humanity. the vial of cursed blood was discovered, and the rest, as they say, is history.

How would you characterize Tim Drake, quirks and all?
I’ve been having an IDENTITY CRISIS trying to figure this boy out because I think I kin him but then I’m like “but do I really know him though? Is my knowledge on him REALLY enough to Kin him?
I don’t want to bother you or anything! Im just curious to see if maybe from your response it can validate me LMAO.
Oh my dear lovely anon, you came to the right place. Tim Drake breathes and I kin it with all of my being.
Either way, I've been analyzing his character for the past two years through fanon and what comics I can get my hands on and this is kinda what I know so far.
Hope you enjoy.
To really understand Tim's character you have to look at his childhood. Now, in canon, his parents are neglectful at times but they aren't as bad as fanon likes to portray them. In both, Tim is usually left on his own in either a mental/emotional or physical state. He learned very early on that his parents are role models and authority figures, not caregivers or emotional support. So he grew up to value independence to an extreme extent.
Relying on people is a gamble but relying on himself is always secure. He's the kind of kid who will ask the teacher if he can do a group project alone because he knows he'll get an A that way and will avoid the drama of teammates. Tim flies solo extremely often half because its easier and half because the boy has trust issues.
One thing unpredictable parents gives you is paranoia, and this boy has it in loads. He's slow to trust because again, people are a gamble. He has a million backup plans but people are unpredictable and still stump him sometimes. Even within his own family, Tim feels out of place. He's caught in a constant state of "waiting for the second shoe to drop". It's a nasty habit but every time people make plans with him he'll never expect them to follow through.
Tim is incredibly secretive, enough that he has and will lie to his teammates and even Batman himself. He is often seen as the smart "perfect Robin" (think Ravenclaw) when really, Tim is the most cunning and tactical of any of them. Tim will do whatever is necessary for the sake of the mission and for the sake of lives. He will play dirty. Think Chaotic Neutral: he has a set of moral rules but no one can figure them out. He's a Slytherin through and through, he's resourceful and incredibly conniving.
That being said, the poor kid is traumatized, depressed, and starved for affection. It may take years to gain his trust but once that trust is given, Tim is the most loyal person on the planet. He will fight for the people he loves and will destroy the world making sure they stay safe. He never gives up when there's still a chance, even if its infinitesimal, Tim will fight like it's a certainty.
It may seem like Tim sucks at partnerships but his loyalty and cunningness makes him one of the best partners to have on a team. The Core Four is a true testament to how much Tim's habits change when it comes to the people he loves. He is adaptable and will be whatever you need him to be. Yet, that comes with a price as well.
See, Tim only ever receives love after being useful. His parents gave him praise after achieving something or being a good Drake model---something that was useful to them and not an actual Tim trait. Tim finds a loving home only after becoming a stand-in Robin. This typically manifests in Tim constantly needing to feel needed or useful in some way, shape, or form.
He's a team leader not only because he finds it hard to delegate tasks to people (trust issues) but because he finds security in people relying on him. Tim will stress himself out to the brink just so he can continue to be useful to the people around him. If you asked him to list his favorite traits about himself that didn't have to do with pleasing others, you'll stump him. The second he isn't useful all his insecurities and paranoia will fester until he pushes people who love him away.
With all these mental blocks, it comes as no surprise that Tim has terrible self-esteem. The Red Robin series makes it painfully obvious how little Tim cares for his life, he'll pawn it off if it'll advance a case. He's cautious and strategic about his attacks, yet reckless and self-sacrificing at the same time. He has little regard for himself because no ones ever proven otherwise.
At the end of the day he's prized for his intellect the most and that's what he's notorious for. He's the "smart" Robin. And while that is true, with earning Ra's respect and managing to pull off the entire Red Robin run, that does dismantle a lot of the other Robin's intelligence. Tim is smart, but so is literally every other Robin. Tim however, is calculating. Tim's intellect is precise and strategic. He is the dumbest idiot alive but he has a plan for everything, he can predict the smallest things and read people through and through. He's great at chess and monopoly because he can predict his opponents and plan far in advance, but the second you make him play something on the Wii like bowling or the airplane game, he's terribly stupid. Considering his lack of interest in school, he relies more heavily on street smarts and his heightened common sense.
Tim tries to know a little about everything but accidentally hyper fixates on one thing, so if you happen to bring it up, he'll talk your ear off. It makes him seem super smart but he's really just a bored nerd with too much unmonitored access to the internet.
He can be serious at times without meaning too because he doesn't like to waste too much of his time. He thinks time is precious and every second matters, that's why he spends so much time working rather than doing anything else. Robin gave him something to work towards, made him useful and his life worth living, he needs it. When it was taken from him it was crushing so he'll do anything to make sure he can stay in this line of work. Once again, feeling the need to prove himself to those around him instead of trusting that he is loved unconditionally.
But he really is a goofball. He's a nerd at the end of the day, a very tired, busy nerd, but a nerd nonetheless. He has passions and hobbies and will geek out over anything that's related to those things. He's funny and charming, incredibly witty, and knows how to be charismatic for show.
Tim was raised in the public eye so he has a lot of proper habits that will never get beaten out of him. His posture tends to be stiff and perfect until he's comfortable enough to change it or too out of it to care. He has impeccable manners and will be a proper gentlemen out of habit. He knows the differences between all the cutlery at expensive restaurants and knows when to use them without looking like an idiot.
Time passes by him easily so he will lose track of dates and the time of day. He stays busy a lot because he won't have to feel any other emotion other than stress and he's used to stress, stress is comfortable for him. He often forgets that too much stress isn't healthy.
Death is also a morbid comfortability for him. He witnessed each of his parents die in some way or the other, continuously watched his siblings perish (whether fake or not), and his high school best friend Darla, not to mention the countless lives he's failed to save. This gives him a pretty interesting take on life. Like I said, he thinks time is precious so he doesn't like to waste it. But at the same time, he has terrible time blindness. It's an paradoxical quirk of his.
Tim's entire personality is being a contradictory genius. Try to pin point a quirk of his and you'll end up spirally because it shouldn't make sense, yet it does. Tim is confusing because he's such a paradox of a person. His personality doesn't align with what his trauma tells, or what his thoughts project, or how he was raised, or even his morals, and yet, here he is. And it makes perfect sense all at the same time.
He's a puzzle, but man is he interesting to figure out.
#was this too much?#does it show that he's my favorite character?#no?#just checking#I love him too much#I still have so much more to say but I have a 5k tomorrow#and id like to go to sleep before midnight#Tim Drake#Red Robin#dc comics#robin#dc#batfam#batman#character analysis#asks

Ok now I wanna write the orphydice roleswap au so here are some headcanons (thanks to Em @a-rose-remembered for the idea!)
-Orpheus is switched with Eurydice, Persephone is switched with Hades, Hermes is switched with the fates
-Okay, for some context: Persephone in this au is a goddess of death and natural disaster, whose unnatural powers have made the world up above unlivable. Only the truly desperate go up top, and they’re met with constant burning heat and man-eating plants. Either that or it’s winter, in which there’s just a barren landscape of frostbite and ice. Bad situation all around.
-In contrast, Hades is her himbo mechanic husband who lives in a cave for half the year bc he can’t stand the cold. Also he designed a secret underground system of tunnels to hide some of the folks who could get down there but it’s… a flawed design to say the least. After Hades built (dug?) the tunnels, he kinda just left everyone alone, so people are sort of starving.
-Orpheus (Damonpheus here!) is a down-on-his-luck musician. He’s sure his song will convince Persephone to lay up on the whole killing everyone thing, but it’s presented less as idealism and more as a desperate illusion of change being possible. A lot more jaded than show!orpheus, obviously, but still very sweet.
-Eurydice (Evadice) on the other hand, is a Robin Hood type. She’s not just hoping for a change, she’s making it happen. She’s part of an organization called the Nymphs, who are basically doing everything they can to get the other Underground residents some proper food and living conditions. Cool spy stuff all around
-The fates (bway fates) are the leaders of the Nymphs! They’re like Eurydice’s slightly terrifying lesbian aunts. They’re still very much chaotic neutral, but they do love her and genuinely want to help her out. They raised her (and her sisters, most of whom are also Nymphs) from the time she was little, so ideally we will see baby Eurydice
-Hermes is less like show!Hermes and more like how he’s presented in the mythology: a younger man, a trickster, and definitely not trying to help Orpheus out. Orpheus is his nephew through his older brother Apollo, and they don’t have a great relationship, so Orph bears the brunt of that. He’s also one of Persephone’s besties!
I have to go to bed but send me asks besties

Building an Embodiment of the Fairytale Princess (2.0)
This is nothing new. I’ve done this build before, which I’ll link right [here]. The post did really well, and people seemed to love the concept. However, since then, Mythic Odysseys of Theros and Tasha’s Cauldron of Everything have both come out, bringing with them not only new subclasses, but new features, spells, mechanics, and elements that I couldn’t take into consideration the first time around. So, I decided that rather than just adding a tag on post like I did before, I’d just remake the build with the new features being taken into consideration. Like before, the focus of the build is to create an embodiment of the generic fairytale princess and not any one particular character. So without further ado, let’s get into it.
Like before, we’ll be choosing Variant Human for our race of choice. We’ll channel Sleeping Beauty to be gifted by the fey with blessings of Beauty, Grace, and Song for +1 CHA, +1 DEX, and Performance proficiency. We also get a bonus feat, and thanks to Tasha’s, we can now take Fey Blessed for +1 CHA. However, if she doesn’t cast with Charisma, then substitute those CHA bonuses with Wisdom instead.
The generic fairytale princess is a maid of purest heart, so we’re Lawful Good. But for your more rebellious princesses, Neutral Good or Chaotic Good are also valid.
Background is obviously Noble for proficiency with History and Persuasion.
CLASSES & SUBCLASSES
BARD
This one seems pretty obvious. Bards love to sing and dance, like your stereotypical princess. Because Charisma is their top stat, and they have expertise, it can make them great negotiators, and allow them to excel in dialogue interactions.
GLAMOUR
This college is very fitting for a fairytale princess, as it is focused on making oneself as beautiful and charming as the Fairest of Them All.
LORE
Lore bards share information, whether they tell stories, recite plays, share philosophy, or spread juicy gossip, the Lore Bard gets more magical secrets, and added expertise to make your princess an even bigger Mary Sue. In actual medieval history, princesses often learned to play instruments and sing, recite prayers or poems, or tell stories to visiting guests, and it was considered a part of her education and duty to do so.
CLERIC
While not every princess is a devout religious girl, their stories tend to be set in the medieval period when a good princess would have been expected to be chaste and pious. So on that front, worshiping a good deity would be befitting of such a character.
LIFE
The fairytale princess raises up those they care about, and nothing is more supportive and helpful than keeping your friends on their feet. The Life Cleric turns your princess into a kind soul who weeps for her friends and patches them up after the battle, turning your princess into a useful ally against the wicked witches and dangerous dragons.
LIGHT
Not all Fairytale Princesses are passive or support players. Those who lean toward Light are the princesses who stand as the Big Good of their story and battle the forces of Darkness with the power of the Light. Of the three Cleric options that fit the archetype, this is the best option for being a powerhouse in combat.
PEACE
Don’t get me wrong, I still hate this domain for wearing the skin of the Love Domain we were supposed to get, and you can absolutely still play it that way. How this domain went from Love to Togetherness to Pacifism is beyond me, but it’s a fairly strong subclass. The classic princess archetype is supposed to be gentle and kind, fitting for one who worships a god of mercy and forgiveness. It’s a value often toted as the strongest characterization of the early Disney princesses.
DRUID
My first time building the fairytale princess, I ignored Druid as an option because the wildshaping didn’t really make sense for a fairytale princess, but a lot of the Bardic Magical Secrets were used to steal Druid spells. However, thanks to the optional rules from Tasha’s, Druids can now use their Wildshape to summon fey that take on the shapes of animals instead of turning into the animals themselves, which makes Druid far more viable, as summoning animals is very in-character for a fairytale princess.
DREAMS
The Circle of Dreams has heavy Fey associations with references to the Summer Court ruled by Titania. It also is strongly focused on healing, and has a very Fairy Tale flavor to it. It’s an especially great option if you want to invoke Sleeping Beauty, as you can cloak your party while you sleep and send messages to people through your dreams.
SHEPHERD
The fairytale princess is strongly associated with animal buddies, and nothing makes better use of that than the Shepherd Druid, which focuses on amassing an army of critters. What’s more, the Unicorn Totem is very fitting, not only because Unicorns only approach maidens with pure hearts, but Shepherds of the Unicorn Totem get empowered healing.
SORCERER
The sorcerer is born with a spark of something special in them, and a lot of fantasy royalty have magical powers that other people in their world lack.
DIVINE SOUL
The princess doesn’t literally have to be the descendant of the gods, as the original name for the subclass was more about being favored by the gods. Still, if you want to lean into the idea of the princess as the Big Good against the Big Bad, then having her be born with the spark of the gods inside her makes for a neat characterization.
WILD MAGIC
With the new Sorcerer Shards as I’ve come to call them, we were introduced to the Feywild Shard, which was heavily geared toward Wild Magic Sorcerers, which seems to be WoTC’s way of saying that Wild Magic Sorcerers are the fey-linked sorcerous origin, so I’m including it because of our fey connection.
WARLOCK
This is the only class where there’s exactly one good option, but it’s one that works surprisingly well.
ARCHFEY
As a Warlock with a Pact of the Chain, your fairytale princess can choose to Find Familiar any cute little animal companion, or a Sprite to be your Fairy Godmother. Or rather, you can sign a pact with your Fairy Godmother, and use your Chain Pact to summon one of her emissaries to help you. The Archfey patron themselves can act as your Fairygodther, granting you and your party boons and aid where they need it.
WARLOCK INVOCATIONS
Agonizing Blast Armor of Shadows Beast Speech Eldritch Mind Eldritch Sight Gift of the Ever-Living Ones Shroud of Shadow Voice of the Chain Master
CHARISMA vs WISDOM
The big split in how you build your princess falls down the line between these two camps. The wise princess works better as a Druid/Cleric, while a charming princess is more of a Bardlock. For me personally, as much as the Cleruid fits the fairytale princess, the stereotype of the princess is usually that she is gullible, naïve, and overly trusting. Insight is a wisdom check, and something the classic princess archetype is usually bad at. Granted, Animal Handling is also Wisdom, but the Bard’s expertise can overrule a low Wisdom score. Think of it like a clash between Princess Zelda from the Legend of Zelda vs Princess Peach from Mario. Princess Zelda is wise and is much more focused on leadership and protecting her kingdom. Peach is more about the pretty dresses and having servants help her. They’re two very different camps on the princess archetype. Ultimately, which one you choose will depend on the type of princess you wish to invoke. The Classic Damsel or the Wise Matriarch.
SIDEKICKS
A new feature added in Tasha’s, sidekicks are secondary characters that can help the party and are basically simplified character builds with fewer bells and whistles. There are three main camps:
Expert. Experts are clever and knowledgeable, be they minstrels, librarians, pickpockets, merchants, or assassins. They can pick proficiency with DEX, INT, or CHA saving throws, and can be proficient or an expert with any five skills of your choice, and humanoids also gain proficiency with light armor, simple weapons, and two tools of your choice.
Spellcaster. Trained in the secrets of the Arcane, be they a priest, a fortuneteller, or a magical creature. They can choose proficiency with INT, WIS, or CHA checks, and can be proficient in Arcana, History, Insight, Investigation, Medicine, Performance, Persuasion, or Religion. They choose a roll to determine their spell list: Mage (Wizard), Healer (Cleric, Druid) or Prodigy (Bard, Warlock). The sidekick has access to the spell list of the classes their role aligns with, as well as casting with that stat.
Warrior. trained fighters, be they a soldier, a city guard, a trained animal, or a hired sword. They can pick proficiency with STR, DEX, or CON saving throws, and their skill options are Acrobatics, Animal Handling, Athletics, Intimidation, Nature, Perception, and Survival. Warriors can pick a fighting style: either Offensive to add +2 to attack and damage rolls, or Defender to impose disadvantage on hitting creatures other than them while within 5 feet of the princess.
Generic Princess Sidekicks
Humanoid Guard Warrior (bodyguard) Humanoid Commoner Expert (handmaiden, governess, etc.) Humanoid Magewright Spellcaster (court mage, or advisor) Any Beast-type Warrior (animal companion)
Fairytale Inspired Sidekicks
Seven Dwarves - Dwarf Warrior Fairy Godmother - Sprite or Pixie Spellcaster Prince Charming - Humanoid Noble Warrior Wicked Witch - Barovian Witch Spellcaster Beast - Gnoll, Jackalwere, Orc, or Troglodyte Warrior Puss in Boots - Awakened Cat or Tabaxi Warrior The Frog Prince - Awakened Frog or Grung Warrior Three Little Pigs - Awakened Pig Expert, Spellcaster, & Warrior Big Bad Wolf - Wolf Warrior or Awakened Wolf Expert Robin Hood - Redbrand Ruffian or Bandit Expert Djinn of the Lamp - Dust, Ice, or Magma Mephit Spellcaster Pinocchio - Giant Stone Statue Warrior White Rabbit - Awakened Rabbit Expert Cheshire Cat - Awakened Cat Expert or Spellcaster
There is no actual limit to the number of sidekicks your character can have, so in theory, your fairytale princess could have an entire posse of talking animals hanging out and helping her.
Skills, Spells, and Features
As a Variant Human, we got Performance proficiency alongside our Fey Touched feat, and as a Noble, we have proficiency with Persuasion and History. For everything else, we’re just looking to be a standard Fairytale Princess. So we should look to be proficient with: Animal Handling, Arcana, Religion, Nature, or Medicine.

Last time I built the fairytale princess, I gave her exactly 1 build. 18 levels of glamour bard and 2 levels of Archfey Warlock. But recently I’ve begun to instead put more stock in leaving builds open, showing instead the options that a player has to choose from. So, for this update, I’m not pushing for a specific build. I’ve laid out the appropriate spells, and the types of princesses that a player can strive to emulate with their spell lists. Consider this more of a guide to help you decide how you want to play your fairytale princess.

@tenkoseiensei said ; ' anyone with a secret base or a private army or a house must be pure evil! ' / 𝐔𝐍𝐏𝐑𝐎𝐌𝐏𝐓𝐄𝐃
❝ So you are saying that.... The count is evil? ❞ That was his first thought as he glances to the side where Yan Qing sits, for it was the count the man Yan Qing has been staring at from afar, and as an individual who rarely made his appearance seen, he could only ponder if the count had a secret base where he hid during the day or something. Once he returns his canned beer back to the top of the table, many thoughts begin to pop inside his mind, for although Arash was a honest man, his allignment was still chaotic neutral, and Yan Qing’s statement serves nothing but to spark the archer’s interest. What a strange statement.... if one were to think strictly about the conditions the other imposed for someone to be pure evil, then a lot of servants would be evil- for a lot possessed high titles of nobility, which in exchange meant having money- money to pay for a private army, a scret base or... well, a house.
❝ Y’know, for once, you are actually saying something that makes sense. Why would someone have a private army? how much money do you wanna rub on our faces? That’s right, pure evil if you ask me. ❞ Robin interrupts . His words come not from genuine malice but more out of a sense of pettiness as he nonchalantly pulls his cigarette from his lips, only to then direct his gaze back at Arash who seemed to have a sudden train of thought.
❝ Well, I’m not too sure about having a house being an indicator but- he kinda has a point with having a secret army- I mean, we are all fighting together for supposedly the same greater good so what’s the need to have one? ❞ Strategically wise, he understood the importance of managing resources, keeping an ace under one’s sleeve, he knew about that, he’s been there before. however if the matter revolved around Chaldea, then he couldn’t help but somehow agree that it could make someone rather suspicious. ❝ but then, wouldn´t that make the master evil? I mean, we are kinda their army, don’t you think ? ❞
#tenkoseiensei#/yes I included r.obin bc I lov e servants interacting and#as someone who writes a lot of servants;; I can bring my muses in here sometimes hehee#also I miss him so alas#it's funny bc ;; they all have different allignments#something that people tend to forget is that a.rash is not lawful good; he is chaotic neutral#robin is neutral good and yq is chaotic evil#i find it funny how in some cases these allignments make sense to some servants#u know who's evil?? pablo after he blasted a.rash with his np castaways

SOULMATE AU HEADCANONS
the girls of the team <3
so *cough* I struggle to write from a male perspective, and also it's pride month so try and stop me? these are all either mega gay or gender neutral.
ARTEMIS CROCK
matching tattoos (different then Jaimes headcanons)
the arrow tattoo on your shoulder was usually what people noticed about you first.
it was a stark contrast against the colour of your skin, so it was easily spotted.
one of the reasons that, when your mother dragged you into a life of crime and villainy, you had to wear sleeves.
sleeves are for chumps.
you didn't really have a choice with the whole villainy thing, but you went along with it to please your mother.
after a little while, she deemed you a good enough fighter to present you to the light, who began to use you as a pawn, much like many of the teen villains that the light had under their wing.
you run into the team on a mission nothing after being brought to the Light.
You almost instantly die during the fight because your too distracted by the blonde teen with the arrow tattoo to focus on not getting your ass kicked by Robin.
When one of his birdarangs slices the sleeve from your shoulder, you begin to focus.
Only for everyone else to stop when Robin yells in surprise.
your tattoo is showing. The fight sort of slows.
the team was winning anyway, Icicle Jr is on the ground, held down by one of Zatannas spells, and Mammoth had been trapped in a metal shipping container by Superboy.
'that's not something you see everyday' Robin says.
but you throw down a gas bomb and vanish before Artemis can talk to you.
She isn't one to dance around stuff, she'll hunt you down to talk to you.
you've got an apartment to yourself, there's a knock at the door and suddenly there's this ponytail blonde chick in your apartment.
'do you have any idea how hard it is to find you? ever?'
once you figure out who she is, the two of you talk - without you gas bombing your way out of the situation.
the two of you start meeting up for coffee, then dates.
suddenly you wake up to Cheshire in your apartment asking about your intentions with her sister.
the same thing happens a week later when Sportsmaster gets wind of what was happening.
why does her family resort to violence so quickly? you've had to dodge three ninja stars and a baseball bat this week alone.
God help you.
Artemis is there though, to help you out and tell her family to calm the hell down.
you'd be fairly quick at jumping over to the team to avoid your mother. as always, Artemis is right there to help her soulmate out.
MEGAN
danger meter
you weren’t sure how to react on the day your soulmates danger meter hit 10.
you were about fifteen when it happened. and you had no idea what to think considering no one anywhere near your age had anything over a 5.
life went on as normal as it could after that.
every now and again you would get questions about it, from friends or families.
about how your number is so high, how dangerous your soulmate is.
as you get older, people begin to avoid you, stemming from the belief that your soulmate is one of the many chaotic villains that appear across the world.
you’re seventeen when you run into your soulmate during an attack in your home on Rhode Island. Living so close to happy harbour always seemed to attract trouble it seemed.
Theres screams and explosions from the street ahead of you, and fueled by curiosity, you run ahead to see whats happening.
Only to have a block of concrete hurled in your direction.
It stops centimetres from your face, glowing a faint green before being pulled away and thrown back at the source.
“Are you alright?” a soft voice asks you, almost right away you realise this girl is your soulmate, and you can understand why the danger number is so high.
Shes a hero, and a powerful one at that considering how she just saved your life.
“uh yeah, i’m fine” you stammer out and she smiles. sticking out her hand and introducing herself.
one of the other heroes calls out at her, telling her to focus on the battle and make introductions later.
She promises to talk to you after the fight, and suddenly your like a mile away and a ginger boy is giving you a mock salute before vanishing into a yellow blue.
not even twenty minutes later and Megan is there, happily reintroducing herself and asking if the two of you can hang out.
you ask about the danger number, yours in fairly low, but your curious as to why hers is so high.
She explains her martian powers as best she can to you, but they are a little confusing for someone who has never been exposed to that sort of stuff before.
Megan is a little bit of a hopeless romantic, so she may jump too quickly into a relationship with you, assuming since you are soulmates that you have to be together.
It’ll take a little bit of talking between you two to understand what you both actually want in a relationship.
Honestly and trust being one of them.
you sometimes worry when she goes on long missions and you’re not updated on her status. Nightwing likes to keep you in the loop, par a request from the martian herself.
ZATANNA ZATARA
red string of fate
if there is anything more fitting with Zatanna’s abilities, its the red string of fate,
A endless blood red string that is attached and tied around the pinky of two individuals. only those two people can see their string, and it becomes tighter the closer one is to their soulmate,
You never really paid attention to your string. It never became taut, always hanging loosely.
You mostly ignored it to be honest.
rather focusing on your school work and trying to balance your work with Lexcorp.
you were just an intern there, but it could be a huge stepping stone to another career for you.
university is a bit of a struggle sometimes. so when you get a break from your work and your friends take you for a day trip in DC you are glad for a break from the workload.
visiting the hall of justice had always been a dream for you, something that was definitely on your bucket list.
so you are basically dragging your friends up the front steps.
as your looking around the exhibits, the string around your finger seems to be almost pulling you, then it's definitely pulling you.
towards two girls in casual clothes talking by the door.
one has brown skin with short hair and is taking rather loud.
the other, you have to take in a breath to realise how pretty she is.
and also the fact that attached to her finger is the other end of your string.
'hi' you seem to appear out of nowhere for them. Your soul mate asks why you suddenly are talking to them, and you raise your hand to show her.
she's kind of in shock for a second and rocket is just, living for it.
'ohhhhhh your soulmate! yes girl!'
she's really not helping your nerves.
you three chat for a little before exchanging numbers with Zatanna - as she introduced herself - and running of with your friends to the next tourist stop.
Zatanna basically tells the whole team when she gets back and they're all ecstatic for her.
you two text a lot since you're busy with school and work, and she's got this super secret job she can't talk about.
She ends up telling you later however when you two are much closer and she feels she can trust you more.
Zatanna would be the best girlfriend. if you're ever feeling down, she's right there to cheer you up no matter what.
she's got your back and you've got hers.
date night's aren't really a thing because of how busy you guys are.
mostly just hanging out in your dorm while you work on a project and she leans up against you, asleep. resting after a mission.
we love you guys
some more soulmate headcanons cause you guys made them my most liked posts!!
the next fic (unless I get a request) will be a Wondergirl one!!
REQUESTS ARE OPEN, THROW THEM IN MY ASKS

In continuation of my Young Justice shitposting that like 3 people saw (I'm so popular I know. Don't worry, the fame is going straight to my ego) I, for some reason unknown to even me, started watching with season 3 and have been working my way back and now I'm at season 1 and I've got to say, no wonder Auqalad was my favorite character when I was younger. I didn't notice him at first, felt he was more of a side character to Robin and Kid Flash's duo and not as interesting as the other side characters like Superboy and Miss Martian. But he grew on me and I definitely liked him during the second season as then he became the undisputed favorite after his just powerful lines when confronting his villain dad (not that I identified with rebeling against a father figure or anything 😬) but rewatching how he was introduced in the first episode? Man I love him so much. He is the direct opposite of Robin and Speedy who get introduced before him, both of them are rushing their mentors, saying they better not miss "it" and then they cut to Auqalad who is instead completely on the matter at hand and his mentor Auqaman is instead rushing him and asking "aren't you excited? C'mon you're at least a little excited nudge nudge." Which y'know, objectively funny, but then after being introduced as The Serious OneTM, Robin and Kid Flash are like, Hey, wanna sneak into this secret lab that we were JUST told like five seconds ago (that's not hyperbole btw, batman and co. say don't go to the secret lab, they leave the room and Robin goes, so we're going to the secret lab right?) not to sneak into with no plan other than Fuck around/Find out? To which Completely Serious Auqalad responds, Fuck Yeah. You gotta love the chaotic neutral himbo who owns the sole brain cell of the team, but loses it half the time.
#also I'm pretty sure fuck around/find out is half the team's pronouns#dc#dc heroes#young justice#auqalad#kaldur'ahm#Robin#dick grayson#kid flash#wally west

the new asks for Cecily
Which parent do they look the most like?
Although she and Micah are generally broader than her very slender fae family, she looks a lot like her mom, which as a child she liked because she wanted to be like her mom but as she’s growing up, she doesn’t like that she has such a big tie to her mom.
Is there a name they were almost given (either by their parents or during character creation)?
Micah and Cecily’s generation was the first to outgrow more older and traditional fae names, but before she was born, there was talks of having her being named Dafne. Luckily Fina did do a brief consultation with her five year old son, and he said he liked the name Cecily. And thus the name of Micah’s favorite person was born.
What were they like as a kid (if they’re currently a child, what would they be like as a teen)?
Cecily’s currently just a leetle gorl, but when she’s older she’s going to be the most badass teen out there. Her anxiety of childhood and the pressure of being the best will still be lingering, which she will need lots of reassurance from her friends, but she will be very ripped and ready to defend her friends with her big heart, big muscles, and big sword. She will also be the very very annoyingly in love girl who can’t get any work done because she’s just fawning over her boy.
What’s their drinking tolerance and what kind of drunk are they?
She only drinks wine at home right now, but when she’s older and starts drinking, she’s going to have an impeccable tolerance. She’ll even be able to outdrink her brother, even if it’s just for the spite.
Where do they like to be touched?
whispers It’s about the hands. Cecily has a lot of her emotional control tied to her hands, which is why when someone holds her hand, she feels a lot safer when she has someone to hold her hand. But when she’s older, she will like when people touch her very strong barbarian muscles.
What’s their favorite position (top/bottom/switch/pillow princess/etc.)
When she’s older, she’s definitely more of a top switch, as she loves taking care of Rory the way that he has taken care of her over the years. But sometimes when older Rory is just a fucking swoon machine, her more bottom tendencies come out and she just wants him to take care of her the best way he knows how (answer: it’s many many kisses).
What are their kinks?
Girl would definitely be into roleplay but takes it very very seriously. What started as a “Queen has an affair with her bodyguard” now is several nights long of on the run from the evil spy organization who wants to kidnap the queen and sell her secrets, and the bodyguard got his powers from a super soldier program and they’re both learning to love. They have to actively remember that it is supposed to lead to sex. Also Robin Hood!Rory? Hoo boy.
As for other kinks, she would never bring it up to Rory but she would lowkey vibe with bondage on his end. She for reasons wouldn’t ever want to be tied up or have her sense deprived, but being a sweet caring dom while her boy is tied up or blindfolded? She could vibe with that.
How do they feel about adrenaline (roller coasters, extreme sports, etc.)?
Ce aint one to half ass shit. The first time this girl goes to an amusement park, you have to argue with her to put her safety harness on during rollercoaster because she just wants to nyoom. Part of the reason she will start the softball team is to feel the thrill of running very fast and hitting things with a bat.
What is their fight or flight response?
Any problem that can’t be stabbed is a problem that can’t be solved. However, if the danger is revolving around an authority figure who she wants to like her, she will slide into the fawn method, where she does whatever she can to make sure she doesn’t get hurt or have other people get hurt.
What’s their pain tolerance?
Cecily is a very strong girl and can take many many hits before getting knocked down for good, and tends to get rather excited when she’s hit? For her, pain is something that grounds her because if she’s thinking about getting hit, she doesn’t have to think about anything else. However, if she gets a paper cut she will cry for twenty minutes.
What character archetype are they the most like (the Innocent, the Hero, etc.)
Although she’s the youngest of the squad (or at least the Player Characters) she fits more of the Hero than any of the other archetypes. Part of it comes with being a protector at heart, but she wants to prove her worth and travel the world and is extremely courageous especially for a sheltered ten year old child who had her first brushes with murders.
What TV-Tropes trope would they be?
Pint-Sized Powerhouse. Although starting second year, Ce starts hitting a growth spurt, she begins at the second shortest of the main squad at 4′10 but I think she has the most max HP due to being a barbarian and she is built like a baby tank. She is chonky and adorable.
What John Mulaney quote/bit do they most embody?
“No one cared about my opinion when I was a little kid. No one cared what I thought. Sometimes, people would say, ‘What do you think you’re doing?” But that just meant ‘Stop.’ They didn’t actually wanna know my thought process. They didn’t want me to be like, ‘Well, I was gonna put this bottle rocket into this carton of eggs, so that when I lit off the bottle rocket, the eggs would explode everywhere.’ ‘Oh, well, that’s very interesting. And what brought you to this experiment?” ‘Oh, well, thank you for asking. Well… you know how I’m filled with rage? I’m so horny and angry all the time… and I have no outlet for it. So… eggs.’“
With the exception of love interests and immediate family, who are they closest to?
Given that Rory will become a love interest and she sees Dahlia as a mother figure, Ciara hands down. She would die for her spunky best friend.
What is their moral alignment? What would have to happen for it to shift?
Cecily started as Chaotic Neutral, but with every day with her new set of family and friends, she is quickly sliding up to Chaotic Good. Although she acts more like a Chaotic Good, she still has some of that neutral as her motivation for doing good deeds is still purely for the love and attention of those she views as authority figures. The only thing that could fully slide her to the evil category is if she just didn’t think there was a way to please anyone or get any appreciation, so she just immediately fends for herself to get people away from her.
Are they a morning person? What are they like before 8am?
She’s a little loopy early in the morning because she needs lots of rest in order to replenish all the energy she needs for her muscles, so if she gets up too early, she won’t get out of that head fog until she has a good breakfast. Don’t try to talk to her before she has coffee, she will process exactly none of the information you give her.
What are they like when they’re tired?
Cecily gets very jittery when she’s tired and is a lot more prone to emotions. The first sign that she needs sleep is she’ll start shivering even in the middle of summer and it feels like her skin in crawling. She will absolutely need to take a nap immediately or she will feel feverish for the rest of the day.
What are they like in arguments?
It really depends what’s she’s arguing for and against. If it’s either a stupid argument or for something she cares about strongly (such as taking care of Micah or being let in on a detective mission) she will talk until her face turns blue until she gets her way, but if it’s against an authority figure like her mom or grandparents, or someone she respects like Dahlia, she will give her side timidly once and then try to find the best compromise that really is Cecily agreeing with the authority figure to avoid getting in trouble.
What is their dominant hand?
Left
Out of 10, how happy are they? How happy do they think they are?
Cecily always thought she was 10/10 because she was the best and if you were the best you are always happy, but she is quickly learning that she is neither the best (and is still coming to terms that maybe no one is the best) nor is she obligated to be the best. So she’s still at about an 8/10 but she’s wondering how long that happiness will stay.

✫ and ╬ for Robin ? 👀
Still need to catch up with op so maybe it's not really accurate
☆Unpopular hc
If she'd exercise more she could be one of the strongest of the crew and she knows that. But she doesn't really care, she is focus on the secrets of the world more than fights. (And she trusts the rest of the crew if there's a danger)
╬ - What I think their moral alignment is
Chaotic neutral I think ?
She does what's best for her and the people she loves (or just people in general). But law ? Don't know her

I feel like a P5 RWBY au would work really well. Maybe Ren could take Ruby’s place? Or have Ren take Ren’s place? Just for the pun lol.
I definitely think Ren would be Ruby, he's much too chaotic good to be RWBY!Ren as of Vol. 7
Oooh what if the Wildcards are all Silver-eyed Warriors, including Goro who hides it with contacts and keeps it secret.
As for Fairytale allusions um... Goro could be Chaotic Neutral Robin Hood, Haru could still be Milady DeWinter.
Yusuke could have a lot of fairytale allusions, but The Fox and The Wolf could fit well if he's a faunus.
And uhhh.... that's all I got so far

Where Law and Chaos Came From: a D&D History Lesson
I’ve seen a few interesting posts about Dungeons and Dragons alignments that all share two interesting commonalities:
1) They think the two-axis system of Law vs Chaos and Good vs Evil is too restrictive for people who like to roleplay. 2) They try to redeem the two-axis system by redefining Law and Chaos in ways that make sense to them personally.
Good and Evil aren’t usually a topic of debate on these posts - it’s easy enough to play a character as generally doing the right thing or as being a total bastard. Discussion on acts of more debatable morality (e.g. torturing a villain for vital information, killing an innocent person by accident, sacrificing one for the good of all) tends to veer towards whether the action itself qualifies as good or evil, and not whether good and evil themselves need to be redefined. Conversely, I’ve seen Law and Chaos rewritten as Community vs Individuality, Tradition vs Cultural Mutability, Authority vs Anarchy - all interesting ideas that tend to reflect more on the person writing them than the actual purpose of the Law vs Chaos axis.
I’m not saying these people are wrong, but that these players (as well as the fine folks who wrote the 5e Handbooks) are placing too much significance on the purpose or intention of Law vs Chaos. The historical secret is that Law vs Chaos alignment never had any deep meaning behind it - or, at least, it never had any meaning deeper than the Pittsburgh Penguins versus the Vancouver Canucks.
I’ll explain how, but it requires a bit of a history lesson. The idea of Lawful and Chaotic alignments - as well as a number of other cornerstones of Dungeons and Dragons - came from a different game: a miniature wargame called Chainmail. It’s time for a deep dive.
In 1970, before he helped create Dungeons and Dragons, Gary Gygax developed a ruleset for modeling Medieval-Era battles using miniatures. Miniatures were organized into opposing armies, and the modeled battles were long, drawn-out math sessions, preoccupied with calculating distances, damages, casualties and morale. If youve ever played or seen Warhammer 40k, it’s a lot like that, except with English Longbowmen instead of Space Marines.
The purpose of Chainmail was to recreate historical battles, and so the gameplay mechanics were painfully precise, with rules for weather, terrain, and siege weapons. Only at the tail end of the Chainmail rulebook, in a tiny ten-page appendix, did Gygax include the rules that would become the basis for all of Dungeons and Dragons. This was the Chainmail Fantasy Supplement.
Even in the Fantasy Supplement, the purpose was still to recreate battles. The second edition of Chainmail - the oldest version I could find, from 1971 - instructs players on how to “refight the epic struggles related by J.R.R. Tolkein...and other fantasy writers”, only suggesting that the player could “create [their] own world” as an afterthought. Chainmail’s fantasy supplement was made so LOTR nerds could re-create the battles of Helm’s Deep or Pelennor Fields, down to the walking trees and boulder-throwing trolls.
Still, a couple of fun details are kicking around in those ten pages. Even back then, fireball and lightning bolt spells were the main tools in the wizards’ arsenals. Dragons and other powerful fantasy creatures could only be hit with magic weapons - an immunity that lingers on some powerful D&D monsters to this day. Even the colour varieties of dragons were introduced here, and they’ve remained largely unchanged for nearly half a century now:
“White Dragons live in cold climates and breathe frost. Black Dragons are tropical and spit caustic acid. The Blue variety discharges a bolt of electricity. Green Dragons waft poisonous vapours--chlorine--at their opponents”
Classic! (I did omit the mottled purple dragon with the poisonous stinger, but those stuck around too - they’re just called wyverns now).
At the very end of the fantasy supplement, you can find the following list:
I’m not sure why Gygax thought it was “impossible to draw a distinct line between “good” and “evil” here - honestly, this looks like a pretty straightforward good-neutral-evil list to me, but there you are. So Goblins, Orcs, Balrogs and Dragons are CHAOS, and Hobbits (who became Halflings later once copyright started getting huffy), Heroes, Ents and Magic Weapons (?) are LAW. Wizards can be either LAW or CHAOS; Elves are neutral (but kinda lawful sometimes); and apparently there are Super Heroes in the Lawful camp (Gygax describes them earlier as “like Conan”.)
The purpose of dividing these units into Law or Chaos is not to dictate how they are played, but what team they will play for in the conflict. That’s why I made my hockey analogy earlier: all Law and Chaos defined back then was what team you played for. So, by these rules, if you were building a Lawful Army and your buddy built a Chaos Army, you would both be able to add wizards to your team, but your buddy would have exclusive rights to dragons. You’d be able to add magic weapons, but your buddy couldn’t. Moreover, if you decided to hold a fight in a forest full of pixies and werewolves, you would actually roll off to determine which side those Neutral creatures would join.
If Law and Chaos did have any deeper meaning in this context, it sometimes dictated how the units behaved. Units of orcs would attack other units of orcs if they failed an obedience check; dragons, being “evil and egotistical”, always had to attack the biggest, most badass targets first. With rules like that, commanding those armies would be more ‘chaotic’, while the lawful side could generally be trusted to obey the commands of the player.
So at worst, the Chainmail law vs chaos axis is a purely logistical division that dictates which units get to join which teams; at its most #deep, it characterizes the combat behaviour of some military units. I think this is probably also the source of D&D racism, e.g. “all orcs are chaotic evil”. That’s a rule that makes much more sense when you’re trying to divvy up the teams in an extremely complex wargame, because you’re looking at orcs en masse, and you’re not too interested in the personalities of individual units.
So, the alignment system does make some sense in Chainmail, where it originated. Here’s where I show you exactly how much influence Chainmail had on D&D and how it struggled to transfer this concept of alignment in a meaningful way.
The “first edition” of D&D - at least the one most of us would recognize as D&D - is officially called Advanced Dungeons & Dragons. That’s the 1977 version in which players create an adventuring party. (It’s called “Advanced” because a “Basic” edition was also released, strictly for levels 1-3). There was actually one other, earlier edition of D&D, which was released in 1974. It was intended to be another Chainmail expansion, so much so that you needed the Chainmail rulebook to play it!
I’m going to ignore that edition, though, since 1) it’s pretty hard to find the rulebook, 2) AD&D was where the game found its own identity anyway and 3) The AD&D handbook is hilariously bizarre, especially when dealing with player morality.
You might know of some of the weirdness of AD&D alignments already. For example, certain classes had to be certain alignments. Paladins were always lawful good; druids were always true neutral. Assassins were automatically evil, and thieves could not be good. Weirdly enough, all monks were lawful - I guess because they adhered to the traditions of their vaguely-east-asian dojos. (By the way, this means that everybody’s favourite Feather Leather Fashionista, Vax’ildan the dual-classed Rogue/Paladin, is a mechanical impossibility in Advanced Dungeons and Dragons.)
It’s easy to see how this move was just an ungainly step forward from Chainmail. Again, this is Gygax telling you what teams your characters must play for - what armies they would join if this were a Chainmail game - without recognizing that the need for an alignment system has basically vanished. We're not picking our fantasy kickball teams anymore; everyone is on the same team, adventuring together, and all an alignment system becomes in that context is a hindrance.
And oh was alignment ever a hindrance in AD&D. Each alignment was a moral code of sorts, but it was also a language. Chaotic Neutral characters shared a language that only Chaotic Neutral characters could understand. Assassins could learn to speak other alignment-languages as they leveled up (or Druidic, if they wanted to be nerds I guess), but if you changed alignment in any way you would lose access to your previous alignment language. This makes absolutely zero sense. Worse still, if you committed an act that didn’t fit with your alignment, it would screw you over mechanically. If a paladin ever willingly committed an evil act they straight-up lost their healing powers and become regular fighters FOREVER. Even if they did something a little bit chaotic, they lost their powers until they could pray the cray away with the help of a lawful good cleric. The book even vaguely suggests that alignment shifting in other classes be met with “great penance”. You’re not allowed to be an assassin again until you do enough poison murders! We’re taking your poison away!
The book describes each individual alignment, but not with any subtlety. This is long before the game itself grasped that the most fun part of tabletop roleplay is the roleplaying, and alignment rules still seem to recall the behaviour of army units rather than the behaviour of individuals. Chaos - as is usually the case - is the alignment that suffers most. The Chaotic Good description gets a nice Robin Hood-y bent, the Chaotic Evil one is the “carnage is good” mantra you’d expect - but here’s Chaotic Neutral:
“Above respect for life and good, or disregard for life and the promotion of evil, the chaotic neutral places randomness and disorder. Good and evil are complimentary balance arms. Neither are preferred, nor must either prevail, for ultimate chaos would then suffer.”
Leaving aside the misuse of the word “complimentary” (you’re looking for complementary, Gygax) and the poorly-structured first sentence - yeah, that’s what the big secret of Chaos is, apparently. It’s not rebellion or individuality (which get championed in the Chaotic Good description), it’s pure, unadulterated, dice-rolling randomness. “Fuck it” made manifest. Don’t think about it too hard, because it doesn’t make any sense, and it will take you down a (fittingly) chaotic wormhole of self-contradiction.
Lawful Neutral and True Neutral are weird, too. Both are described as pursuing the absolute harmony of the word, but like...you know, in different ways. There’s also a bizarre association between goodness and beauty. “Life and beauty are of great importance”, says the Lawful Good blurb. Does this mean that Delilah Briarwood, Wildemount’s hottest necromancer, is Lawful Good after all? shucks.
It’s pretty clear that AD&D is the awkward gangly phase between wargaming and genuine tabletop roleplay, with lots of weird vestigial features and obnoxiously pedantic mechanics that would later be dropped. For some reason, despite the fact that it never made sense to begin with, alignment wasn’t one of those mechanics - or at least it tended to vanish as a mechanic and then come back again in later editions, slightly different but never fixed. This led to another awkward gangly phase at the turn of the millennium, when D&D rules were adapted into games like Baldur’s Gate or Planescape Torment. Alignment creates fallacies and failures everywhere in those games. If you play Evil in Baldur’s Gate, the game can become basically unwinnable, as NPCs begin to attack you on sight. The way to bond with the Chaotic Neutrals in Planescape Torment is to literally spout gibbering nonsense at a man on the street until he barks at you. Even on Critical Role, with its 5e gameplay and extremely talented dungeon master, alignment feels like an arbitrary interloper rather than an important part of the game. Percy stays Good even after torturing a teenager, but Vex goes Neutral for stealing a broom. Nobody in their right mind would believe Fjord is Lawful Good because of his deception and warlockery, but he technically hasn’t violated the LG handbook so far.
So because of these repeated failures to use alignment in a compelling way, I see a lot of people hunting for the right way to do alignments, the right way to understand chaos, law, neutrality and the like. They want alignments to fit. But they never did fit. The truth?
Two-axis alignment is stupid, and it always has been.
Honestly, I don’t see the benefit in remedying two-axis alignment as a system. I have my own re-interpretation of chaos that I like fairly well, and I’ve seen a few compelling ones, but I also think that alignment could use a complete makeover. There are some fun examples of morality systems that I’m sure DMs could experiment with, if they so wished.
You could steal from Ultima IV, for example. The Ultima series was a product of the early days of the computer/tabletop romance - and by early I mean 1980s early. Ultima IV does not use the alignment system: instead, it lets the player ‘train’ in eight virtues to achieve ultimate avatar awesomeness. The virtues are Honesty, Compassion, Valor, Justice, Honor, Sacrifice, Spirituality, and Humility, further divided into the camps of Truth, Love, and Courage. Maybe angels of each of those virtues have corresponding devils (Deception! Cruelty! Cowardice! Injustice! Dishonor! Greed! Blasphemy! Pride!). That could be one way to play with morality without worrying about chaos or law.
I’m also a fan of Pillars of Eternity’s spectra of dispositions, which fit loosely into pairs (not necessarily good or evil pairs, mind you). Benevolent or Cruel, Stoic or Passionate, Honest or Deceptive, Clever or Rational, Diplomatic or Aggressive. Heck, those remind me of the personality sliders in the Sims. What were those again, like - Grumpy/Nice, Playful/Serious, etc?
Those trying to give alignments the benefit of the doubt often suggest that alignments were created to help people roleplay. That’s not...entirely untrue, it’s just misleading. They were created to help people make gameplay decisions, but they were pulled from a different kind of game altogether. It’s like trying to play checkers with chess pieces, and it always has been. The D&D alignment system doesn’t work for D&D because it wasn’t designed for it - it was designed for wargaming. We probably should have just chucked the whole thing instead of enshrining it in nerd culture, but it’s too late for that. Still, our creative energy now would be better spent on a new morality system that actually gives us a thing or two to think about.
