The explanation for This Au is that I keep remembering what Sarge says to Grif in the speech after he finds out they're Sim Troopers ( Canon Fodder for the Freelancers to train with ).

' Why are you here? ' ' - No , I mean - Why are YOU still here? You complain about being here so why haven't you just left? NO ONE WOULD STOP YOU. '

And I thought about it. And I thought about how in Season 15, Grif does leave and... no one stops him. Simmons just stands there, crushed and hurt. Sarge is trying to stop him with reverse psychology but he doesn't do anything besides shout at Grif to TURN AROUND ( (( BRIGHT EYES - EVERY NOW AND THEN I FALL APART--- GO AWAY ADHD THOUGHTS NOT RIGHT NOW. )

And I thought, WHAT IF THEY DID STOP HIM...

That's basically how this au started.

I dunno if I mentioned it but I have a dumb headcanon that the military issues them all jumpsuits that match their armor colors.

Kaikaina ( yellow ) has altered hers into a two-pieces but they're usually one piece with buttons on the front.

Grif's is Orange but fades to gold , Donuts is Pink lightish-red , Sarge's is red and Simmons is maroon ( or but ends up fading to Fuschia because of a laundry error. )

But Also... Grif likes autumn colors in his civilian clothing and so does Simmons. Kaikaina likes bold colors and so does Tucker. Sarge likes autumn and gray colors. Flowers wears black and gray clothing but used to wear exclusively white clothes.

Caboose likes wearing light blue and beige colors.

Remind me to write a drabble where they go shopping before they retire so they won't have to wear the 3 standard-issued jumpers they were given. ( Grif only has one by the end of season 10 and it's riddled with stitches from all the repairs. )

Kaikaina's clothing style is b-girl fashion and Dexter Grif's style is similar but he prefers to wear loose-fitting clothing and layer a tank top, bra under a shirt, and lounge pants. ( Grif frequently borrows her clothes because they're around the same size but Kaikaina will also borrow his hoodies and pullovers. however, they hate it when anyone else borrows their clothes without permission. even if it's Simmons. )

Simmons predicably dresses in stuffy Academic style. he loves dress shirts but hates polo shirts because they used to not fit him correctly. once he got top surgery, he wore more variety in his shirts and even the occasional short-sleeved shirt. ( Kaikaina and Dex take him out to buy some new clothes when they retire. )

Sarge has a very lazy style wear he wears tee shirts that don't fit him well and sweat pants or he just lounges in his room in the nude unless there is a problem.

I imagine Tucker dressing like a prep for some reason.

not the same hanahaki asked but. GOD. I already thought of a scenario where mc has the disease but very stubbornly refuses to say who they're in love with (the ros) just because they don't think those feelings would be reciprocated (self-inflicted hanahaki in other words). very much the embodiment of 'tell them my feelings? i'd rather pass away'. how would the ros react to that? 👀

jinwol would grab the mc’s hands and say with complete sincerity “can’t it be me instead? i promise to never let you be alone” and says it with shaky hands, shaking pupils, and basically looks like he’s going to explode. one can only laugh at the mc and jinwol both being the biggest idiots in the universe.

yul would be a little angry in this situation! in their perspective the mc is just putting themself through something dangerous uselessly, and they’ve tried to express in all the ways they can how much the mc means to them. i think it’d frustrate them incredibly to see the mc losing their life over some stranger, and just how little the mc values themself. i think while it’s unusual for them to be aggressive in this regard, they’d probably end up cornering the mc to force an explanation out of them. very melodramatic.

iseul would be panicking and trying to find some kind of cure for the mc. because of course she doesn’t want her friend to die! nevermind the fact that she’d never let them get to that state. because that’s what all good friends do, right? right? i don’t actually see how this one gets resolved well because she hasn’t realized her feelings and the mc refuses to say theirs — sorry to iseulmancers, you might die in this au JDJJDJFJJF

xst would honestly figure out the cure to hanahaki. maybe they’ve heard of it during their travels, maybe there’s a legend out there, but they’d be so fixated on having the mc survive (because what kind of end is met through floral suffocation?) they’d find a solution. incredibly, you could still somehow make it out of this ordeal without confessing.

My personal headcanon that Grif is a secret but lazy medic just gets funnier the more I think about it.

Grif sees Sarge get shot and does '' cpr '' to save him... Simmons doesn't question it at all.

' Take the medic ' takes on a new meaning with the information that Grif is a medic. It changes from ' I am concerned about my teammate' To ' I'm a bit concerned but not enough to actually DO ANYTHING but if we get a medic then I won't have to expose myself and thus give myself more responsibilities that I don't want. '

Doc and Grif hit it off when they talk about Nerdy medic stuff..(and have sexual tension... allegedly )his boyfriends are jealous. Doc pretends to buy the ' Cpr on a gunshot wound' bit. ( he knows Grif is a medic, for reasons )

Doc is hurt and Washington asks if they know a medic. Sarge knows Grif is a medic, answers no. Grif is a medic but answers no. Simmons doesn't know that Grif is a medic, answers no.

Grif meeting Dr. Grey is 65% more hilarious when you realize that he's a medic and is just looking at her like ' Girlie, You need serious help.'

Grif's '' HATRED '' ( citation needed ) of Doc becomes way more funny when you think of them as Medic Rivals who want to one up each other but Grif's apathy keeps winning out.
