Impedimenta: You can stop one person from coming near you, ever, like a permanent, unbreakable restraining order, who is it? For all of the ROs?
Christian: “Senator Bracken,” Christian replies swiftly. “I’ve never liked the guy. Always got a bad feeling about him.”
Alcina: “Can I have two?” Alcina asks with a small tilt of her head. “If so, I’d love to never have to be in the same room as Archibald Campbell and Michael Wolfe. It’d be a cold day in hell before I ever wished to.”
Stephen: “Fiona Hutchinson,” Stephen replies with a petulant frown. “She stole my lunch money for years and then moved away. Last I heard she was some big shot on the west coast.”
Quinn: “Mikael Valankoff,” Quinn responds with a hard edge to their tone. “The one man that almost made me fail at my job.”

《 @hsheartthrob 〈 nick t 〉 liked 》
As soon as Mr. Hutchinson left the classroom, Ro turned around in her seat to glare at Nick T. Her knuckles were white as she gripped her chair, a contrast to her cheeks that were blooming red with anger. She wanted to make it painfully obvious how much she resented him for landing them both in detention -- on today of all days! Carrie was no doubt gonna chew her out for missing rehearsal. Not to mention the extra hours she was gonna have to put in to catch up with the other girls on Kayla’s choreo.
She shook her head slowly and narrowed her eyes at him, just in case the message still wasn’t clear.
“Hmph!” She huffed as she turned back to face the front of the room, digging through her bag for homework to do or a book to read or anything to take her mind off the impending candy-coated doom that was waiting for her when she got out of this.

How Many Republicans Voted For Daca
Arkansas Republicans Help Give Professional Licenses To Illegal Aliens
Republicans say there won’t be a DACA vote this week. How will Democrats respond?
Arkansas Republicans, including Gov. Asa Hutchinson , have helped secure professional licenses for illegal aliens enrolled in former President Obamas Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals program thanks to the passage of new state law.
The law, which took effect July 1, will now allow the states nearly 5,000 DACA illegal aliens, along with illegal aliens who hold federal government-issued work permits, to obtain professional licenses to hold jobs in education and healthcare, among other industries.
Hutchinson said all of Arkansas benefits when DACA illegal aliens can obtain professional licenses to take jobs in the state. Only State Sen. Trent Garner and;State Reps. Joshua Bryant , Bruce Cozart , and Gayla;McKenzie voted against the legislation.
The passing of this law was a special moment in Arkansas history, Hutchinson said.

Forced Daca Vote May Happen In June
When members of Congress departed for the Memorial Day break, a small group of pro-immigration Republican members felt confident they could get the necessary 218 votes on a discharge petition that would force a vote on a DACA bill. At last count, if all Democrats sign-on, the count stood at 215 just before the break. They feel they have the 218.
There are two key dates for a discharge: June 11 and June 25. Once a bill reaches the 218, it has to wait for seven legislative days and then can only be voted on the second and fourth Mondays of the month when the House is in session. That means under the current schedule the only opportunity will be Monday June 25th and Monday July 23rd. There would have to be the 218 signatures by at least June 11th or July 9th.
One of CWLAâs key talking points from the recent Hill Day visits is to get Congress to act on DREAMERS legislation. The Dreamers Act or Development, Relief, and Education for Alien Minors Act of 2017 would grant DACA beneficiaries permanent resident status on a conditional basis.

Congressional Republicans have come up with all sorts of ways to dodge responsibility to protect Americas Dreamers, while hypocritically claiming they support the protections offered under the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals program.
Some of these GOP extremists blame their Democratic counterparts for packaging DACA with immigration measures they say are too lenient. Some say they cant approve DACA without it being coupled with more stringent legislation to secure the border. Some contend its irresponsible to consider a pathway to citizenship for any immigrants during the current surge in border crossings.
But with all eyes on Congress following the recent legal ruling against DACA, and with the House having already approved protections, its time for Senate Democrats to hold the Republicans feet to the fire on the issue by doing an up-or-down vote on DACA alone.
Americans have had enough of this ping-ponging on DACA. As shown unfailingly in polling, Americans across the political spectrum fervently support a pathway to citizenship for the Dreamers.
And why wouldnt they?
Don’t Miss: What Republicans Are Voting Against Trump
What Has Changed In The Two Years Since The Senate Voted Down Daca Legislation
Two years ago this week, the Senate voted on four different immigration billsthree that proposed permanent fixes for Dreamers and one on sanctuary cities. Each failed to reach the 60-vote threshold for passage. Later this year, the Supreme Court is expected to rule with the Trump administration in favor of terminating the DACA program, ultimately triggering a chaotic election-year fight over Dreamers, immigration reform, and border security.;
Much has changed in the 735 days since the Senate last took up this contentious issue, but advancing a DACA deal still remains unlikely. Here are five developments to the politics and policy around DACA since the last showdown in the upper chamber.;
Can Daca Recipients Vote
People granted DACA status do not have the same rights as U.S. citizens when it comes to taking part in elections. They are considered permanent residents living in the U.S. with a green card; hence they are non-U.S. citizens. They also have the ability to obtain scholarships to pay for an education in the U.S.
Barring only a few states, DACA recipients and immigrants holding other statuses are not allowed to cast their votes in federal elections. Some states and municipalities that allow DACA recipients to vote include Chicago and San Francisco, among others. If theyre undocumented immigrants, then voting is entirely prohibited.

In fact, many teenagers and adults who benefited from DACA are sharing their own stories of how it changed their lives. And these stories are circulating on the Internet, inspiring millions.
How Can Dreamers Get Their Voices Heard At The Polls
Even though they cannot cast their vote in the elections, all is not lost for DACA recipients. Nearly 700,000 people are living in the U.S. with DACA status. So changing or abandoning a policy on which so many people rely is not an easy undertaking.
Some of the DACA recipients are taking things into their own hands and trying their best to keep DACA intact. While this may not be directly effective, it is certainly a way for them to try to make an impact this election season.

What Are The Big Concerns Facing Dreamers This Election
Elections are always important to a country, and most importantly, to its people. These people are both citizens and non-citizens, each with their own hopes and concerns for the election. DACA recipients look forward to the upcoming 2020 election with anticipation.
The DACA policy first came into effect in 2012, and within the last eight years, it has undergone a roller coaster ride of policy shifts. 2020 is going to be no different, and there are some big concerns looming for DACA status holders. Among all the major concerns, the most important ones for these non-citizens are:
How Can They Force A Vote
What Republicans want from a DACA deal
Moderate Republicans are using a rarely-used and rarely-successful procedural maneuver called a discharge petition. Stick with me: A discharge petition forces a vote by the whole House of Representatives on specific bill or bills. In this specific instance, this petition would force a vote as early as June on four different immigration plans. This would bypass going through committee and whole array of other roadblocks Republicans leaders could typically use to stop legislation they dont like.

Republicans Split Up: Tillis And Cornyn Pushing For Amnesty For Daca Recipients Betraying Americans Again
Republican donors and Republican voters are about ready to get a divorce over some critical issues, like Amnesty, which is hugely unpopular with the Voters and highly favorable with the donors.
Some Republicans can not stop themselves from lying to their voters and pushing for far-left policies like Amnesty for DACA recipients.;
Most Republicans support DACA. As do these Republican Members of Congress and former members: Paul Ryan, Lindsey Graham, Chuck Grassley, John Coryn, Thom Tillis, Adam Kinzinger, Leonard Lance, Carlos Curbelo, Jeff Flake, Mike Coffman, Ileana Ros-Lehinen, Will Hurd, Jeff Dedham
Whatever
According to many of his constituents, Thom Tillis from North Carolina is one of the most deceitful people on the Hill on immigration issues. So is John Cornyn. Together they have devised another Amnesty scheme that represents donors and not voters.;
According to the Center for Immigration Studies, Cornyn and Tillis are pushing for things that will make them some money but which their constituents will not be happy about:
In making their case, the Republican senators stated that there is no clear and politically viable path forward for the American Dream and Promise Act, which would amnesty at least 4.4 million illegal aliens, and that a narrower bill is more viable.;
According to U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services;data, there are approximately 616,030 illegal aliens who are active DACA recipients.
House Votes To Give Millions Of Dreamers And Farmworkers A Path To Citizenship
Democrats vowed the votes would be the first step toward enacting President Bidens immigration agenda. But Republicans galvanized by border politics promised to stop even the most popular measures.
By Nicholas Fandos
The Democratic-led House voted on Thursday to create a path to citizenship for an estimated four million undocumented immigrants, reopening a politically charged debate over the nations broken immigration system just as President Biden confronts a growing surge of migrants at the border.
In a near party-line vote of 228 to 197, the House first moved to set up a permanent legal pathway for more than 2.5 million undocumented immigrants, including those brought to the United States as children, known as Dreamers, and others granted Temporary Protected Status for humanitarian reasons. Just nine Republicans voted yes.
Hours later, lawmakers approved a second measure with more bipartisan backing that would eventually grant legal status to close to a million farmworkers and their families while updating a key agricultural visa program. This time, 30 Republicans, many representing agriculture-heavy districts, joined nearly every Democrat to vote in favor.
In moving swiftly to consider both bills, House leaders wagered that singling out relatively narrow but publicly popular immigration fixes could shake up a deadlocked policy debate after years of failed attempts at more comprehensive immigration legislation and deliver for a key constituency.

Senate Judiciary Committee Chairman Senator Charles Grassley has been a supporter of DACA for awhile, and this support largely comes from his belief in the e-Verify system. Mr. Grassley has said that all employers should be required to use the E-verify system in order to check on a potential employees working eligibility, for a system like this would make deportation of criminals easier and it would as well speed up deportation of asylum seekers who are unable to support their claims.

As the White House may be inching closer to a deal that will decide the fate of 800,000 DACA recipients, Congresswoman Linda Sanchez shares her viewpoint on the current negotiations.
MICHEL MARTIN, HOST:
We’re going to start the program today talking about new tensions around the program known as DACA, short for Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals. That’s an Obama era rule that allows undocumented immigrants who came to the United States as children to apply for protection from deportation. The Trump administration has said it wants to cancel the program in six months.
But President Trump met with Democratic leaders Chuck Schumer and Nancy Pelosi last week. And they reportedly agreed to work together to protect DACA recipients somehow. Until they come up with an actual plan, though, some 800,000 young people remain in limbo. And we will hear from one of those young people in just a few minutes.
But first, to the tensions. Neither President Trump supporters nor many of the Democratic lawmakers are pleased that the two are moving ahead on a deal without consulting with their respective bases. Joining us on the line to talk about this is Congresswoman Linda Sanchez, Democrat of California. She’s the former chair of the Congressional Hispanic Caucus. And she’s now vice chairwoman of the House Democratic Caucus. Congresswoman, thank you so much for speaking with us.
LINDA SANCHEZ: Yeah. It’s great to be with you.

Four Immigration Bills Were Put On The Senate Floor And Four Bills Failed
The Senate voted on four immigration bills on Thursday afternoon; they needed 60 votes to advance. Each of the bills, from the most conservative to the most liberal, failed.
First up was a plan by Sens. Chris Coons and John McCain . The Coons-McCain bill would have:
Provided a path to citizenship for 1.8 million undocumented immigrants who came to the country as children
Offered no money for Trumps border wall, though it did include some border security measures
It failed 52 to 47, with Democrats almost united in favor and Republicans mostly voting against it.
What it means:The failure of the Coons-McCain plan underlined that with the Republicans controlling every lever of power in Washington, a bill without any funding for Trumps infamous border wall is a nonstarter.
The second vote, on an amendment from Sen. Pat Toomey , did not actually address DACA or border security. The Toomey amendment would have penalized so-called sanctuary cities that refuse to enforce federal immigration policy, by withholding federal funding from those municipalities. The issue has been a fixation for Trump and some of the conservative hardliners in Congress.
It failed 54 to 45. Republicans and a few Democrats supported it, but most Democrats were opposed.

Patients sometimes look up at Javier Quiroz, an acute-care nurse in one of Houstons busiest hospitals, and ask if he is in the United States legally.
No, he says.
Then he tells them about the journey that has never ended. He crossed the U.S.-Mexico border at age 3 and, nearly three decades later, is among 11;million undocumented immigrants rooted inside the United States without a permanent legal claim to this country.
Quiroz is a foreigner with a Tennessee accent, a registered nurse who paid his way through college and then fought to save lives in a pandemic that nearly took his father and infected him, his wife and their baby girl.
He has watched Congress debate his future for decades, but a bill that would offer him U.S. citizenship has never reached the presidents desk.
With Congress set to return to Washington on Monday, Democratic congressional leaders say legislation establishing such pathways ranks as one of their top priorities. But progress has been stymied, both by uncertain Democratic support and Republican recalcitrance amid an influx of migrants crossing the southwest border, following the same path Quiroz once took.
Failure is not an option, Schumer wrote to colleagues, saying they would address immigration and a host of other measures when the recess ends Monday.

The Daca Population Numbers
787
President Donald Trump said he has heard varying numbers on the DACA population from 650,000 to 3 million. In fact, the U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services said there were 689,800 active DACA recipients as of Sept. 4, 2017.
DACA, which stands for Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals, was instituted in 2012 under the Obama administration and enabled certain individuals who had come to the United States illegally as children to avoid deportation proceedings and obtain work authorization for two years, subject to renewal. The Trump administration announced an end to the DACA program on Sept. 5, 2017, saying no new applications would be accepted and a wind-down would occur for current enrollees.
Congress is negotiating a deal on what to do about DACA before a March 5 deadline set by the president. A bipartisan group of lawmakers met with the president to discuss immigration on Jan. 9, and the following day, Trump said in a cabinet meeting that they had agreed to pursue four major areas yesterday of reform: securing our border, including, of course, the wall which has always been included, it never changed; ending chain migration; canceling the visa lottery; and addressing the status of the DACA population. He then rattled off a few different numbers on the DACA recipients.
Now, lets look at the figures the president mentioned on the DACA population.
Legal Immigration Is Now The Real Hurdle To A Senate Deal On Daca
Republicans push for vote on Trump’s proposal to end shutdown
Even with the failed votes, there was little disagreement among the various plans on two major issues: the DACA recipients themselves and border security funding.
Every major plan from the Grassley/Trump proposal to McCain-Coons would have provided a path to citizenship for young people in the United States who are eligible for DACA. An estimated 1.3 to 1.8 million people who had been brought to the country illegally as children would have received protections under that provision.
On border security, the disagreement was lesser Democrats werent eager to give Trump his wall, but they did appear willing to fund it to save DACA. The White House wanted $25 billion, and the Grassley bill gave it to them. So did the latest bipartisan Common Sense compromise.
The real disagreement, then, came down to legal immigration. The White House wanted substantial legal immigration cuts through changes to family-based migration and the diversity visa program. Those provisions were incorporated into the Grassley plan, but it had trouble mustering even universal Republican support.
Now, senators will return to their home states, having done nothing yet again to solve the DACA crisis.

A recently published study in the journal PLoS One in May of 2018 demonstrated that the anesthetic drug propofol significantly increased intracellular calcium (Ca2+) levels, induced a burst of reactive oxygen species (ROS), and activated the master metabolic regulator AMPK in C2C12 cells [18]. Similar results were also obtained in a recent study published in April of 2018, wherein propofol also increased intracellular Ca2+ levels and activated AMPK in HeLa cells [105]. AMPK is an evolutionarily conserved protein that increases lifespan and healthspan in several model organisms [34]. Activation of AMPK is also the primary mechanism of action of the anti-diabetic drug metformin, a compound that has displayed wide-raging efficacy in multiple disparate disease states, including cancer, dementia, depression, frailty-related diseases, and cardiovascular diseases [34,106]. Interestingly, propofol is considered one of the most popular and widely-used intravenous anesthetic drugs in modern medicine to induce and maintain general anesthesia in humans [107]. Curiously, a recent study published in the journal Current Biology in June of 2018 by researchers from the University of Michigan demonstrated that the compound carbachol reversed anesthesia induced by the inhaled anesthetic sevoflurane and restored wake-like behavior and level of consciousness in rats [27]. Carbachol is a compound that binds to and stimulates acetylcholine receptors in the brain but also activates AMPK in human cells, similar to both metformin and propofol [27,108].
Each of these studies substantiates several novel proposals in a recently published paper I authored in June of 2018 in which I proposed for the first time that cellular stress-induced AMPK activation links consciousness and accelerated emergence from anesthesia with paradoxical excitation, hippocampal long-term potentiation (essential for learning and memory), alleviation of accelerated cellular aging in Hutchinson-Gilford progeria syndrome, oocyte activation and the sperm acrosome reaction (prerequisites for human life creation), and transposable element (i.e. “jumping genes”)-mediated promotion of learning, memory, and the creation of human life [1-6].
As further explained below, nearly every neurotransmitter that plays a critical role in promoting wakefulness, arousal, and consciousness activates AMPK (glutamate, acetylcholine, orexin-A, histamine, norepinephrine, dopamine, and serotonin) [7-17]. Several drugs that are commonly used to induce and maintain general anesthesia also activate AMPK in low doses (propofol, sevoflurane, isoflurane, ketamine, dexmedetomidine, and midazolam) [18-23]. Also, several compounds that have recently been shown to promote accelerated emergence from anesthesia also activate AMPK (carbachol, orexin-A, histamine, dopamine, dopamine D1 receptor agonists, nicotine, caffeine, and forskolin) [9-11,13,24-33].
AMPK, an evolutionarily conserved kinase that is activated by the induction of cellular stress (i.e. increases in intracellular reactive oxygen species [ROS], calcium [Ca2+], and/or an AMP(ADP)/ATP ratio increase), increases lifespan and healthspan in several model organisms (yeast, worms, flies, mice, etc.) [34]. In my prior publication, I first proposed that cellular stress-induced AMPK activation is critical for facilitation of hippocampal long-term potentiation (LTP), considered a cellular correlate for learning and memory [5]. Indeed, AMPK has been found localized in hippocampal CA1 pyramidal neurons and glutamate, NMDA, potassium chloride, and high frequency stimulation have been shown to induce AMPK activation in cortical and hippocampal neurons [7,35,36]. Although an increase in Ca2+ levels is critical for neuronal activation and LTP induction, inhibition of ROS significantly inhibits hippocampal CA1 LTP, indicating that cellular stress-induced AMPK activation may play a pivotal role in neuronal excitation [37-40].
In my most recent publication, I noted that forskolin activates both AMPK and the transposable element syncytin-1 (necessary for human placental formation), increases human oocyte fertilization rates when combined with the AMPK activator cilostamide, and promotes chemically-induced LTP in hippocampal slices [6,26,41-44]. Transposable elements (TEs) are found in human oocytes, human sperm, and in human neural progenitor cells within the hippocampus [45-48]. TEs are also activated and can be induced to transpose or “jump” from one genomic location to another by increases in Ca2+ or ROS [49-51]. Exercise was shown to enhance LINE-1 (L1) retrotransposition (a TE of the retrotransposon class) in the dentate gyrus of the hippocampus in mice and L1 expression and retrotransposition in the adult mouse hippocampus was reported to enable long-term memory formation [52,53]. Because forskolin and caffeine, both of which activate AMPK, have recently been shown to promote accelerated emergence from anesthesia in rats and caffeine activates both mouse oocytes (models for human oocytes) and TEs, I proposed that cellular stress-induced AMPK activation may represent a common mechanism linking consciousness with learning, memory, and the creation of human life [25,26,33,54,55].
A primary cellular target of hypnotic agents (e.g. propofol) used for the induction and maintenance of general anesthesia is the GABAA receptor [66]. The GABAA receptor is located throughout the brain (cortex, thalamus, brain stem, and striatum) and binding of propofol post-synaptically to GABAA receptors enhances neural inhibition by the primary inhibitory neurotransmitter GABA, contributing to a loss of consciousness [66]. Interestingly, the GABAA receptor antagonist bicuculline, which reverses propofol anesthesia, activates AMPK in mouse cortical neurons via Ca2+ influx and flumazenil (a GABAA receptor antagonist) induces preconditioning by increasing the levels of ROS [56-58]. Basheer et al. as well as researchers from the University of Pennsylvania showed that AMPK is activated during extended periods of wakefulness but is inhibited during sleep in the basal forebrain and cerebral cortex of rats and mice [59,60]. Decreases in AMPK activation during sleep were also associated with increases in ATP, which would decrease AMPK activation as increases in the AMP(ADP)/ATP ratio activates AMPK [34,59]. Creatine, which also activates AMPK, decreased total sleep time, NREM sleep, and NREM delta activity significantly in rats [61,62]. Combined use of the anesthetic agents ketamine and xylazine in rats also led to an ATP increase that positively and significantly correlated with EEG delta activity [63]. However, the sedative and α2-receptor agonist clonidine activates AMPK in mice and xylazine, an analog of clonidine, activates AMPK in the rat cerebral cortex, hippocampus, thalamus, and cerebellum, provocatively indicating that low-dose anesthetic administration may actually promote wakefulness, arousal, and consciousness through activation of AMPK [64,65].
Low dose anesthetic-induced AMPK activation may also explain the phenomenon of paradoxical excitation. Curiously, low doses of nearly every anesthetic drug have been shown to induce paradoxical excitation [66]. As the name implies, before inducing unconsciousness, general anesthetic administration may result in a temporary increase in neuronal excitation, characterized by an increase in beta activity on the electroencephalogram (EEG) and eccentric body movements [66,109]. Because AMPK is activated by cellular stress induction (ROS, Ca2+, AMP(ADP)/ATP ratio increase) and because ROS and Ca2+ increases are critical for activation of pyramidal neurons, it is likely that many anesthetics induce rapid neuronal activation and paradoxical excitation in low doses by promoting cellular stress-induced AMPK activation [34,37-40]. Indeed, propofol, one of the most commonly-used anesthetics to induce and maintain general anesthesia, activates AMPK via an increase in ROS and Ca2+, promotes hippocampal neural stem cell differentiation, and promotes neuronal viability [67-69]. Sevoflurane, a commonly-used inhaled anesthetic, activates AMPK via an increase in ROS, increases Ca2+ levels in mouse brain cells, and enhances memory in rats at low doses [70-72]. Ketamine also activates Ca2+ channels in rat cortical neurons, increases ROS levels in the brain of rats, enhances hippocampal CA1 LTP in rats, and also functions as an antidepressant by activating AMPK in the rat hippocampus in vivo [73-76]. Prominent beta activity on the EEG has also been observed just before return of consciousness in healthy adult volunteers anaesthetized with propofol or sevoflurane (similar to paradoxical excitation), suggesting that the decrease of an anesthetic to a low, stimulatory level after removal of anesthesia may explain the increase in beta activity just before return of consciousness as well as during paradoxical excitation [6,66,77]. Hence, low dose anesthetic-induced AMPK activation may potentially accelerate emergence from anesthesia as well as promote beneficial arousal in disorders of consciousness (e.g. minimally conscious state, persistent vegetative state, coma, etc.) [6].
As noted above, nearly every neurotransmitter that plays a critical role in promoting wakefulness, arousal, and consciousness activates AMPK (glutamate, acetylcholine, orexin, histamine, norepinephrine, dopamine, and serotonin) and commonly used drugs that induce and maintain general anesthesia also activate AMPK in low doses (propofol, sevoflurane, isoflurane, ketamine, dexmedetomidine, and midazolam) [7-23]. Compounds that have recently been shown to accelerate emergence from anesthesia also activate AMPK (carbachol, orexin-A, histamine, dopamine, dopamine D1 receptor agonists, nicotine, caffeine, and forskolin) [9-11,13,24-33]. Additionally, a recent study by Hambrecht-Wiedbusch et al. strikingly demonstrated that although sub-anesthetic doses of ketamine increased anesthetic depth and induced burst suppression during isoflurane anesthesia, ketamine paradoxically accelerated recovery of consciousness in rats [78]. Such evidence supports the notion that while larger doses of anesthetics are effective at inducing loss of consciousness, low-dose anesthetic administration may facilitate rapid, cellular stress-induced neuronal activation that is mediated by AMPK activation [6].
Although they do not have a nervous system, plants produce nearly every neurotransmitter that promotes wakefulness, arousal, and consciousness in humans, including glutamate, acetylcholine, histamine, norepinephrine, dopamine, and serotonin [79-82]. The production of these neurotransmitters in plants is often associated with the induction of cellular stress (i.e. via wounding, osmotic stress, etc.) and partly serves as a defense mechanism [79-82]. Fungal infection of certain rice cultivars for example increases the production of serotonin, which suppresses leaf damage and reduces biotic stress [83]. ROS and Ca2+ also play critical roles in the production of secondary metabolites, compounds that plants produce partly for the purpose of self defense [84,85]. Interestingly, several abiotic stressors including nutrient deficiency, salt, osmotic, oxidative, and ER stress activates autophagy in Arabidopsis in a SnRK1-dependent manner. SnRK1 is the plant ortholog of AMPK [86]. Such evidence suggests that a mechanism of cellular stress-induced AMPK activation by neurotransmitters may have been evolutionarily conserved to promote neuronal activation in the human brain.
Indeed, the well-studied AMPK activator metformin activates AMPK in hippocampal neurons in vivo and enhances neurogenesis in the subventricular zone and the subgranular zone of the dentate gyrus, indicating that metformin may enhance brain repair and recovery of consciousness in disorders of consciousness [24,87,88]. Metformin also alleviates accelerated cellular aging defects and activates AMPK in Hutchinson-Gilford progeria syndrome (HGPS), a genetic disorder characterized by an accelerated aging phenotype caused by faulty splicing of the LMNA gene that also occurs in normal human cells at low levels [1,89,90]. Interestingly, temsirolimus (an analog of the macrolide rapamycin), alleviates accelerated aging defects in HGPS cells but increases the levels of ROS in both normal and HGPS cells within the first hour of treatment [91]. Metformin also activates the telomere-lengthening enzyme telomerase (which is derived from a transposable element) in an AMPK-dependent manner [92]. Cellular stress and AMPK activation also promotes oocyte maturation (precedes and is critical for oocyte activation), the acrosome reaction in human sperm (necessary for oocyte penetration and fertilization), and human placental development [26,93-95]. Forskolin and caffeine also induce the acrosome reaction in human sperm [96,110].
Lastly, increases in ROS, Ca2+, and AMPK activation are also critical for T cell activation and hence latent HIV-1 reactivation, a method currently pursued by HIV-1 cure researchers to reactivate dormant HIV-1 residing in T cells to facilitate virus detection and destruction by the immune system (called the “shock and kill” approach) [5,97-101]. Strikingly, forskolin reactivates latent HIV-1 in human U1 cells, a myelo-monocytic cell line used as a model for HIV-1 latency [102]. Early data has also demonstrated that metformin destabilized the latent HIV-1 reservoir in patients chronically infected with HIV-1 and significantly reduced cellular markers positively associated with T cells latently infected with HIV-1 [103,104]. Such evidence provides a compelling indication that cellular stress-induced AMPK activation links transposable elements and alleviation of accelerated cellular aging with potential HIV-1 eradication, consciousness, and the creation of human life, all hypotheses that I originally proposed [1-6].

I had a very busy end of summer pulling together the giant annual fundraiser Witch Rave successfully after a dramatic spooky lightening storm! This year’s event was co-organized this year with best friends and artists: Alex Tsoli, Jean P’ark, Orion Twinkle and Winnie SuperHova. Together with the community we again miraculously raised thousands to provide an opportunity for many talented artists to participate in Murmurs. Thank you to the almost 1,000 people who came out to support this fundraiser. Murmurs was the first queer sound art residency in the world. With organizers and BetOnest director Yoav Adamoni – we were 31 that filled the art hotel! The largest event ever in the space and ColorBlock joined us for a big party making it the funnest party of 2018 at the new residency space.
The amazing artists who participated in the residency were:
Pêdra Costa
Ze Royale
Henry Wilde
NeoNeoneo Hülcker
Hannah Levin

Here are some photos from the beautiful Murmurs residency:
—————————————————————————————————————————————–Two weeks later my partner Ryan Backer and I took the train to Amsterdam and biked around a lot in all sorts of weather. We went to the Art Deco Sauna to warm up and relax which was incredible! Then I curated Genderclear at Transcreen.
This is one of my favourite bills of my life. It was carefully juried by friends Angel Ka, Anna Helme, Nabeela Vega, Raven Davis, Russell Louder and Ryan Patrick Backer.
Jespa Jacob Smith, Anakin Tora,Brettley Kai and Wyatt Riot were in attendance which was such a total delight. This program was funded by Senatsverwaltung für Kultur und Europa
Video artists on the bill: Jespa Jacob Smith, Justin Shoulder & Bhenji Ra, SATURN, Mitch Mitchell, Erum Khan, Anakin Tora, JJ Levine , Brettley Kai and Wyatt Riot, Namita Aavriti, Thirza Cuthand, Buzz Slutsky, Kinga and Winnie Superhova, Max Rocha, Kübra Varol, Isaiah Lawrence, Lene Ricarda Vollhardt and Luce Delire and HYENAZ
After trip the next weekend this Ryan Backer and I had an ecosexual commitment ceremony/ ritual in the light rain in a forest led by my platonic wyfe performance artist and porn star Sadie Lune. This event took place at Quecke with our 20 closest Berlin friends in attendance followed by a giant feast.
—————————————————————————————————————————————–While gardening at the Tauenblau estate in October, I got to spend some time back at BetOnest with some great artists from New York, Glasgow, Montreal and Philly that I have had the joy to work with before: Hannah Levin, Ben Owns, Nash Glynn, Stephanie Creaghan and Evie Snax! Also I got to meet and listen to inspiring stories from Yoshiko Chuma for my first time.
—————————————————————————————————————————————–
I worked at the Berlin Porn Film Festival in October 10 hours a day again running the Spektrum Venue with Alex Tsoli for almost a week. I curated the last of the Berlin Series of 2017 called FEAST on loop in the lobby of the Spektrum – art science community. Many of the artists were here for the festival Theo Meow, Candy Flip, Lori Elisabeth, Cybee Bloss and AORTA films which was exciting.
FEAST An experimental short film curation on loop Coral serves up the best in food porn mixed in with a sprinkling of high art for you to devour. These hedonistic video artists gorge on fruit, picnics, bodies, hot dogs, cakes, candy, and last but not least gallons of milk. Get some food to go and come sit at the Spektrum to spend some quality time chewing and swallowing these beautiful and visceral videos in between screenings. Headphones will be provided for this sumptuous overindulgence. A generous helping of thanks to Zachary Hutchinson, Cybee Bloss, Anna Luisa Petrisko, Nabeela Vega and Ryan Backer for ideas and support with this curation. This delicious experience is free of charge!
Kailey Bryan and Pepa Chan Eat Your Heart Out .56 Over four hours they feed each other a seven course meal. Gestures range from smirking and silly to hurtful and aggressive. Attentiveness gives way to laziness; resentment builds. As carelessness action becomes malicious, the performers feel the weight of their own callousness. Tenderness re-emerges. With each bite they contend with their impulses and suffer the emotional consequences of their actions. Sometimes we hurt each other out of ignorance. Silly, attentive, callous, malicious, and sorrowful, this durational performance is a quiet but high-octane emotional ride. World Premiere
D.S. Chapman Mending 4.01 Through a reflective performance, the artist alludes to the reparative nature of transitioning their body. Confronted with a subtle, visual break with reality, the viewer is asked to navigate and mitigate their relationship to the perceived trauma that has been done and is being subsequently undone in the video. European Premiere
Claire Arctander Feeding Time 2.25 Feeding Time is a pithy, sexy video that feels raw but is ultimately G-rated. The artist plays an intentionally ambiguous role – is she top or bottom, commanding or commanded? European Premiere
Asaf Aharonson, Chih Ying, Josephine Beckers, Kasia Wolinska, Konstantine,Martin Hansen Asia Tickler: on fruits and phantasy 3.26 Human and fruit relations enjoy a long and entangled history with notions of the erotic, from ancient Greek hedonisms to subliminally suggestive works of European art from the Middle Ages to twentieth century performance art. Most honourably, fruit nourishes our bodies. Asia Tickler draws attention to the tactile limits of human bodies with fruit, exploring pleasure in various encounters of absurdist ‘waste’. European premiere
Yoshie Sakai Come one eat all 4.54 In the video piece Come One, Eat All (2007), I concoct my own cultural icon as an animated “adult-girl” doll child, whose only objective is to endlessly and tirelessly eat fast food (McDonald’s French fries and Kentucky Fried Chicken) and junk food (Lay’s potato chips, powdered donuts, chocolate bars, and M&Ms) at a frenetic pace, as moving images of amusement park rides sped up considerably cause a mesmerizing and nauseating sensation for the viewer. Along with the creepy soundtrack “Carnival of Souls” by Combustible Edison and screaming noises from the people on the rides, I attempt to convey the vicious cycle of dizzying consumption and the irrepressible nature of overindulgence unnaturally forced upon us by the marketplace. European Premiere
Devyn Manibo Sediment 002 5.34 Part of a series of durational, visual, and textural experiments which uses rice to explore the materiality of grief, memory, and accumulation World Premiere
Nabeela Vega Thahab-Papaya 3.33 Part of an ongoing project: “Visiting Thahab” Visiting Thahab investigates the identity of a Muslim American femme in the post 9/11 diaspora. It takes forms that are performative, collaborative, generous, vulnerable, and exquisitely beautiful. World Premiere
LAZY MOM Hungry Hungry Hot Dog 2.34 Based on the children’s book “The Very Hungry Caterpillar,” this stop motion animation features a ravenous sausage wiggling its way through junk food on a coming-of-age journey. European Premiere
Glitter Hangover Rub 1.29 Glitter Hangover, acoustic Peaches cover band, presents their debut music video, Rub. We are frivolous, camp, and queer. Our work is about subversive pleasure and building temporary communities. It’s low-tech, DIY and offers space for revelry. German Premiere
Sister Mantos Last Night (Mirror Mirror Remix) 3.23 Video directed and edited by David Riley Photography by Benjamin Gallardo Set design by R. Kelsey Hall Shrimp headgear by Andytoad
Meow Meow Calamares 3.43 Slimy octopus dream sequence. Remember: You always eat the ones you love. Starring Candy Flip, camera by Theo Meow
Star Kim (aka Cho Mihee, aka Kimura Byol, aka Nathalie Lemoine) 2017-bap-bob Gender fluid made of bap (cooked rice) juice… bibiming (mixing) bap for bob … who is gender fluid. 1.40 World Premiere
Natalie Valencia Gluttony 1.26 World Premiere
Jacqueline Mary and Violette Dentata Girl with the Most Cake 1.13 Two femmes get wild with cake.
Cybee Bloss Squirt 30 seconds World Premiere
Sarah Hill and Hayley Morgenstern Eat THAT! Poison Apple 9.24 In Hayley Morgenstein’s performance of Snow White’s poison scene, she feasts instead of sleeps, gluttonously eating not one but several apples. My version of Snow White gorges herself on Poison Apples, gnashing and gnawing them into pieces, obliterating her potential destruction, letting apple pieces and juices stream out of her mouth, rendered defective, void of power. This gesture activates my own feminist refusal to be saved; to reject the position of having-to-be-saved, or participate in the heteronormative economy of “saving” European Premiere
AORTA films MILLK BURLESQUE 4.03 In MILLK BURLESQUE, Parts Authority, Erykah Ohms, and Ginny Woolf ceremonially edge us towards The OH Files’ climatic money shot. Honoring their cyborg sexualities with the consumption of MILLK (a white viscus substance used to fuel their post-human transition) the three begin to bend time with their erotic power, letting the wet, white viscosity flow freely forward, splashing down their bodies and dripping from their mouths. World Premiere
TOTAL 50.22

In new news Future Visions is in the Queer Arts Festival this June! And we are looking for new submissions if you or someone you know would like to make a minute future prediction by video and upload it to Vimeo or Youtube.
————————————————————————————————————————————
Here is my newest submission call for this year’s 5 brand new video and performance art curations. Please check out the fb event here. I am curating with and alongside wonderful organizations and people again this year!
Over the holidays I paid all the artists from last year who screened in the Berlin series I curated – 115 international video artists! I have transferred all the grant money out to these talented individuals. Thank you for being part of this epic project and to the Senatsverwaltung für Kultur und Europa for this amazing funding for all of us.
For my relaxed New Year’s Resolution I will be creating a video performance series with trees and plants. I wish to take some sacred time to be more still and intimate with and in nature. Follow me on instagram to enjoy this video series shot by myself and close friends. I am going back to my performance art roots and building on ecosexual and earth art projects from the past that I created in the United States between 2011-2015.
Venice, Berlin, Amsterdam! I had a very busy end of summer pulling together the giant annual fundraiser Witch Rave…
