Man, If I wasn't sick I would be banging out my feelings on this subject like nobodies biz. Week 7 HW

Rapper VannDa Is a New Voice From Cambodia's New Generation. July 3, 2022. Phorn, Bopha. Vice.

VannDa is a rapper from Cambodia, something pretty uncommon. Most popular Cambodian music as of now would usually be covers of Western songs. I wanted to read up on him since he does what most Khmer kids are scared to do, sticking it to the man and defying the status quo.

Ros Serey Sothea: The golden-voiced Cambodian surf rocker slain by the Khmer Rouge. October 5, 2023. Golsen, Tyler. Far Out Magazine.

Much like VannDa, Sothea was a pioneer in her time, rebelling against the traditional Cambodian music, introducing Rock-and-Roll for the Cambodian people. However, she went missing after the Khmer Rouge took over and she is presumed to be dead. She is a symbol of things we lost.

As of the time the article had been written, Cambodian immigrants are the fifth most common foreign-born residents in Wichita.

I’m 9 fics away from having 400 fics on AO3!!! So I am trying to come up with titles for some of my WiPs that can begin to be published. Why are titles so hard???

Some fics that might be ready to post:

I’m just going through my docs to make a list, so there’s more than 9 here lol

Iorveth gets captured by the Throne3 and they head towards Temeria to deliver him to Roche. Maybe calling it Bound for Temeria? The main plot is that Gascon and Iorveth are shackled together (as a security measure; Gascon’s idea) and end up separated from the others. So they continue the journey and get to know each other lol

Post-W3 with Ciri getting ready to become Empress and Geralt is summoned before Emhyr bc he killed the Ofieri Prince in Hearts of Stone and that’s kind of a problem. Especially because Ofier is Nilfgaard’s only ally. Might not sound like it, but this is actually a Ciri/Cerys fic lol. Because the political solution to the mess is for Ciri to be arranged in marriage to the Malliq. And also to Morvran, bc she needs to consolidate power in the capital. But she’s with Cerys and scared of losing her. Meanwhile Cerys just wants Ciri to be able to feel like she has some control over her life.

Two fics in the same series:

One where Iorveth and Saskia approached Roche to try to recruit him to their side (both because it would be highly advantageous, but also because they wanna bone him)

One where Roche introduces Iorveth and Saskia to his mom, because when the plan goes into effect, everything will change and he wants them to know where to find him. Because they haven’t asked him to come with them when they leave for the Pontar Valley.

Hmm, I have a few Throne3 Meve/Gascon-centric shorts but idk if I wanna make a new shorts collection or just add to an existing one. On the other hand, I don’t think I have a TB-specific one yet.

Reynard and Roche share a few words about Gascon at a diplomatic party. Not actually sure if this is a standalone or something that’s part of a series of like, conversations between different duos. 

Okay, I’ve been calling this one the Northern Realms’ Party Favor, but that is not necessarily a good title lol. The tone is more serious than that implies. Kinda connected to the previous one in that the initial idea was pairing random duos up and seeing what conversations happened. But then it kinda turned into... porn with plot??? So the premise is that historically, when the Northern Kings meet, the host provides a “party favor” for them all to enjoy when negotiations are complete. Roche has served as the party favor in the past and ends up telling Gascon about it. Gascon decides it sounds fun and might be his only chance to ever be with Meve, so... This turns into Gascon gathering intel while getting fucked and somehow eventually leads to some confrontations about the Lodge of Sorceresses and also the throne3 get together.... somehow???

A Thronebreaker fic about Meve and Reynard discovering just what Caldwell promised the Strays and very much not understanding why Gascon would want Spalla and Scala.

I think I’ve shared snips of this one, but it starts with Meve and Gascon’s first clash when she has him captured and he refuses to be cowed. Then we get the power reversal where Gascon holds the key to letting Meve out of prison. And... tbh no idea what happens after that.

One where someone takes offense at a former criminal pretending at being respectable hanging around the queen and decides to do something about it. Gascon ends up a captive of an old ‘ally’ while the court thinks he got cold feet and ran and Meve tried very hard not to think that, especially because the alst thing he’d done was dance with her at a ball.

A short fic that might be a 5+1 where people make armor/clothes for Knickers

A longfic about Dijkstra & Roche slowly developing respect for each other as they face off while Roche is Redania’s captive in the past interspersed with Roche being held captive somewhere in the present.

An isendain fic about their first meeting and how they get together

A fic where Iorveth is suspicious about what Roche has been up to in his forest. Meanwhile, Roche builds a cabin for Iorveth.

Okay, I haven’t gone through my rorveth WiP docs yet, but I gotta go to work, so for now, this is the list of options that need titles so I can publish them.

All New Runaways: Who Should Do It?

Short of getting Adrian Alphona, Takeshi Miyazawa, and Brian K. Vaughn back (though the artists might be available), who should be on the creative team for this new series?

Here’s my thoughts, feel free to add your own.

Writer:

Tom Taylor - I’m very impressed with what was done with All-New Wolverine, and the balance of tragedy and joy is essential to a good Runaways story.

Christopher Yost - He’s written them before (Secret Invasion, as well as the epic Molly vs. Wolverine story), so I could easily see him doing it again.

Christos Gage - This man is a workhorse of a writer. He’s written them before to decent effect, and though he can be ham-handed at times, it always comes from a place of sincerity. 

Jeremy Whitley - creator of Princeless and current writer of Unstoppable Wasp, he has the writer level of heart and mastery of writing strong ladies that make him a definite boon to any Runaways series.

Robbie Thompson - Silk impressed me.  not only with its art (see below), but it’s writing.  It took a character who had an introduction worse than freakin’ Alpha (remember him? Didn’t think so, you lucky bastard) and made me absolutely adore her. I’m not caught up enough on Sorcerers Supreme yet, but it is on my list.

Chistina Strain - what can I say, she impressed me with her take on Generation X, and any Runaways alumni on the book would be a boon. 

Kelly Thompson - She did a good job with Nico in A-Force, which is enough have me recommend her for the rest of the crew.

Al Ewing - Al’s continuity hound nature might be an odd fit for the Runaways, but if anyone can weave them more connections to the Marvel Universe, it’s him.  After all the great work he’s done, I trust him implicitly.

Matt Fraction - A longshot, I know, but imagine what he could do with these kids!

Brian Michael Bendis - Hear me out.  Ya know what people complain about in Bendis’ work.  The particular language/wording he uses, the scenes of sitting around eating Chinese takeout?  That would be perfectly kosher in a Runaways book. 

Artist:

Ro Stein and Ted Brandt - they did a good job on the Champions.MU tie in they did and can handle a variety of body types. A must for a Runaways book.

Chris Anka - Well, he apparently is at least doing the promos.  we can hope he sticks around for more!

Sophie Campbell - Remember what I said about different body types?  It definitely applies here.  Though I’d loath to take her away from her current output, if she can work this in, I’d be all for it!

Ben Caldwell - Same applies here.  He might be great for a Molly centered arc with his more cartoony style.

Mike McKone - He’s done Avengers Academy and Teen Titans.  Might as well have him do this team too!

Stacy Lee - Have you seen her work on Silk!?  That’s reason enough alone to recommend her.

Tana Ford - Again, have you seen her work on Silk?!

Gurihiru - Because it’d be SO CUTE to see!  This would be for a more lighthearted take, but with Gwenpool, I can firmly say it does work for darker things too.

Matteo Lolli - His work in the Hawkeye vs. Deadpool book would work well here. 

Sean Izaakse - I remember when his pages for Thunderbolts came in and everyone hoped that this would be the new artist.  And how disappointed they were when he was announced as only a fill in.  If he got a regular gig with Runaways, I’ve be very happy.
