Rising Star

Sorry about the delay, life got in the way. Welcome back to the story, it’s time to move on to follow the dream. As any grand quest must start off with the rule of three, it’s time for there to be a third member of the insanity. We were faced with the choice of who to have, and it was a tie between:

1) The Swordsmaster's Apprentice - Nebula

and

3) The Rangers

So I did what I thought was best, and flipped a coin. Came up in favor of the rangers 2 times out of 3.

Time to find out what the Rangers say.

The Ranger’s office was a short and squat building on the edges of the castle city surrounding the castle. The tavern nearby was vaguely familiar to Star, as she’d been there more than once, but she couldn’t say she’d ever met the rangers.

At least that’s what she was saying as she tried desperately not to meet the eyes of the rangers that triggered flashes of memories. She really needed to get her bad habits under control before they get her in deeper trouble.

Pushing open the door to the ranger’s outpost, she looked around, and saw the only one seated around a pile of paperwork. At least that made it easier to find the one that could help them get things set up.

“Excuse me,” she offered, smiling at the man behind the papers, who looked up with what sounded almost like a grateful sigh.

“Welcome… Lady Star Crescent? If you’re looking for-” he paused as if trying to narrow down a list, before continuing without any more hesitation. “Any one, please let me know and I’ll see what I can tell you.”

Star gave a nervous laugh while glancing at Luna who was giving her a knowing smirk. “Actually, we’re looking to hire an escort and guide on the college’s authority,” she explained, passing over the scroll the Headmistress had provided. “Should only be two days, and within sight of the castle at all times.”

“I see,” the man stated as he stroked his thick black and white beard. “Suppose we do have someone like that… Sunny, c’mere!” he called out, waving over a ranger in tanned leathers with yellow blonde hair pulled up in a ponytail.

“Sunny, you’re still on probation, right?” he asked as soon as they arrived, the leather armor making it hard to judge gender.

The ranger in question gave a sigh and nod. “Aye, haven’t gotten the clearance from the guildmaster after last time.”

“This job would fall under your restrictions and get you out of he-”

“I’ll take it!”

“Thought so, Sunny, meet Lady Star and Lady Luna, they need an escort for a simple two-day job. If you get good reviews, I know that the guildmaster will listen to praise from them and the Headmistress of the college.”

Star raised a hand to Sunny, thankfully not having a flash of memory about them. “Hello, I am Star Crescent, and this is the bard Luna. She and I are looking to go into the mountains and while it may not be too challenging, there are some complications,” she explained as the ranger read over the note.

“I can see that…” they agreed before letting out a low whistle. “Name’s Sunny, they/them if you’re honoring that.”

“We will,” Star agreed just before she realized there was something behind her. It seems the whistle had brought some attention. Turning slowly, she found something large, and looming, and furry.

Gale’s OC Story: Rising Star: Falling Void

Origin:

The villainess known as “Shadowfinder.” Realized there was something off about the hero Rising Star. A soul was following him rather closely. How fascinating.

During a clash the villainess managed to use a soulcatcher to snag the lingering soul. She would give this poor thing a new form.

Thanks to her magic she succeeded. A shadowy figure possessed the doll she had created, forming a human body around it. But his body was simply a shadow, a dark version of the hero Rising Star. This figure said he did not remember who he was, but he blames his end on Rising Star, promising VENGEANCE! Thus he became the dark shadow of Rising Star. Falling Void.

Powers

Interestingly his powers are very similar to Rising Star. Being able to control gravity. But he is limited, only able to make himself the center of gravity. Though the gravity is more intense.

Enhanced Strength and speed. Can hide within shadows.

Falling Void being a Shadow being, means he does not need to eat, sleep or breathe. And he can regenerate after injury.

He can also appear to look exactly like Rising Star. Both as Shane Silver and as his hero form. Mimicking his voice and mannerisms perfectly. But can’t alter his color, so in brighter environments, his disguise won’t fool anyone.

He later gains the ability to use shadows as weapons, altering his body to make blades and other items. And can even collect shadows to add to his power.

Weaknesses:

Light sensitivity. His powers greatly weaken in sunlight, and too much direct sunlight or UV light exposure can make him evaporate.

Triggering memories causes massive migraines, resulting in him being incapacitated.

While he can regenerate, it can not occur in daylight or in a bright environment. Must head into a shadow to recover.

Trivia:

-Falling Void is a reference to the dark reflection archetype.

-Despite hating Rising Star, Falling Void never harms civilians, even refusing to harm Rising star’s friends and loved ones.

-It is revealed that Falling void IS the original Shane Silver, and after reclaiming his memory becomes obsessed with getting his body back.

-Shadowfinder is in love with Falling Void. And Falling Void is incredibly loyal to Shadowfinder as she saved him from forever observing his clone self.

-Falling Void has a DEEP hatred for Doctor Dubious after learning the truth. Wanting him dead.

-During an end of the world crisis, Falling Void merges with Rising Star, helping enhance his powers. Rising Star even gains access to some shadow abilities thanks to this. Now more complete. Falling void fades into Rising Star’s subconscious.

-Falling Void is a reference to Noob Saibot, dark pit, and Venom.

Welcome back, I’m hoping that everyone’s still enjoying this story, and would love to talk with you if you have questions or comments about the stories. After a discussion with Luna, Star has decided that her next steps are:

3: Finding a third to go to the mountains with them.

I hope that you all enjoy it.

Getting to the Headmistress’s office, Star and Luna knock and await admittance before entering. What they found waiting was a bit of a surprise. The Headmistress had company.

The swordsman and his apprentice turned to the two and bowed in greeting. “Salutations and well met, I am the swordmaster Sol, and this is my niece and apprentice Nebula,” the older man offered with a warm smile as he tapped his chest. “We have completed our discussion, so we will let you have your meeting.”

Star noticed an expression and look shared between her aunt and Nebula, apparently used to the formal speech of Sol. “My name is Star, arcane archivist and scholar, and this is the bard Luna,” she introduced while meeting his bow with one of her own. “You honor us with your visit, Swordmaster.”

“Quite so, though the honor is mine,” Sol continued with a chuckle to his voice. “Until the next time we meet.”

With that, he and Nebula excused themselves and went about their day. Star and Luna took a seat, letting the Headmistress finish filing some paperwork before presenting their notes. “Last night, I believe I may have been visited in my slumber, and we were wanting to have your thoughts on this.”

It was not the first time that Star had gotten a raised eyebrow from her aunt, but it was a rare occurrence. Taking the notes, she began to go over it, reading through them casually before looking up. Not at Star or Luna, but out the window, towards the mountain peak that Star had suspected would be the one she was being called to.

“I do not like the idea of you going out, not with your father on the loose,” Headmistress Celeste commented as she processed the information that had been presented to her.

“I know, and I’m not going on my own, but I don’t think a large group is a good idea.”

“Good, however, you and Luna should take someone with more… martial training I believe,” Celeste mused as she set the papers down steepling her fingers before her in a meditative pose. “Taking a member of the guards could raise suspicion, though.”

“We were thinking of a three-person team, since that’s the auspicious number for starting new quests,” Luna supplied with a knowing smirk as she caught up with the gears spinning up in Celeste’s mind. “Do you have any suggestions on who we might ask to come with us? We might be a day or two getting there and back.

“Now that you mention it, there might be some options that could work.” Lifting up the notes, Celeste tapped her finger along the side as she thought through the options. “Sol is here for a month to do some training exercises with the guard, however his apprentice Nebula is ready for her journeyman trials.”

“Alternatively, there is a druid that arrived earlier this morning named Wolf, who told me more about your little incident in the woods. We are preparing a team to investigate the dinosaur that you three met. She has been contained, and is well fed and looked after right now. So Wolf is sticking around until that is ready. Perhaps a week.”

“Finally, we would have the option to reach out to the local rangers and see if one would be able to escort you,” she concluded with a sigh. “What do you believe feels best to you?”

It seems that we have a few choices as to who to round out the team.
