Happy Heavenly Birthday to Anne Rice

OCTOBER 4, 1941 - DECEMBER 11, 2021

Anne Rice was an author of gothic fiction, erotic literature, and Christian literature. She was best known for her series of novels The Vampire Chronicles. Books from The Vampire Chronicles were the subject of two film adaptations—Interview with the Vampire and Queen of the Damned.

Rice was not 100% too happy about the film “Queen of The Damned” and casting, however was very pleased with Aaliyah’s representation of “Queen Akasha”. Rice watched the film with director Michael Rymer, and called Aaliyah’s performance “remarkable.”

The moment the plane rolled to a stop in New Orleans, the heavens opened, and the thunder rolled, and it was as if the spirit world had heralded her return to the city of her birth, the city that always held her heart. The service was quiet and private, and a chance for close family to express their grief. The public celebration of life we will hold later in the year will be open to all of you, and it will be loud enough for Anne to hear us in heaven. She has joined my father in the tomb in Metairie Cemetery she designed for him after his passing; their marriage, unbroken for decades, has entered immortality. My sister resides with them as well. Anne Rice est décédée ce samedi à l’âge de 80 ans. Sa mort ne me laisse pas indifférent car je lui dois des heures de lecture passionnante. I've been re reading her works from the beginning accompanied with audio book, and coincidentally was watching #interviewwiththevampire lasnight when the first thing to pop up on my Facebook was this. I am truly saddened to see our Dark Mama has passed on. My absolute favourite author is no more.. The characters she created, the ones she breathed life into, those characters, stories and arcs got me through a literal lifetime of depression and pain. Anne was a force, period. Every single book, no matter the topic, was a work of art. And we all know that's rare. Anne created a world of mystique, of joy, of fear, pain, desire, love, hate, anguish and awe. Vampires, humans, witches, alchemists....Jesus. Your sassiness, will also be missed. My favorite book ever. The author who taught me to dream dark, romantic dreams and to love monsters. I hoped to meet her someday. Her stories had a huge impact on my formative years… I read Interview at age 15 and devoured every book I could. Cry To Heaven introduced me to queer stories before I even understood what that meant. She taught me to love words and has made me want to be a better writer.
