On a whim I scrolled through the people accepting commissions on Tumblr and ended up with a lovely picture of @teadocs Skylar and Rio!

Kenzie's commission appreciation thread <3
So I am a self-proclaimed commission addict. I love supporting people in any way I can, and of course in return I get to see my lovely characters brought to light.
That being said, I wanted to create a thread of posts of ones I've gotten to spread the love and appreciation I have for all these artists (this post will be continuously updated as I get more... cause I will...)
1. @emmamountebank Med was the first person I ever commissioned back in like 2020. She did one of Chrashley (and even made me an icon for Tumblr without me asking for it cause she's nice <3), and then a header/icon for my Twitch back when I was streaming regularly, but I still use the icon because it's me! And it looks so good! Love you Med <3 <3 <3 <3

Rio de Janeiro wheelchair dubs exho: Alfie Hewett/Gordon Reid def. Shingo Kunieda/Daniel Rodrigues 6-2, 6-4 Match Stats
Tumblr media
📸 Rio de Janeiro official live stream
Alfie/Gordon started the match aggressively, setting the tone where S. Kunieda/Daniel being out-paced altogether, despite S. Kunieda also looking in fine form. Somehow, they managed to absorb the pace in the second set marked by several turning points, but the British pair also dominated the extended rallies, which marked both the beginning and the end of the match. This way, the match appeared equal with both pairs having 7 break points, but Alfie/Gordon had a 100% break point conversion rate after immediately taking their chances from their offensive sides.
Besides, it appeared that Alfie/Gordon appeared just fine on serve, largely reflecting their current form. Even though S. Kunieda/Daniel landed 75% of their first serves, they only won 24% points than the British pair, where they won more than double their first serve points with a 57% winning percentage despite neither pair's inability to serve an ace. On the other hand, S. Kunieda/Daniel won 8% more points from their second serves than the first, but they fell 9% behind Alfie/Gordon, who double-faulted quadruple times, but was still able to win 47% of their second serve points.
Although this wheelchair doubles was part of the exhibition before the other doubles semifinal match, it is hoped that there will be more promotion of wheelchair tennis (especially in the region), according to S. Kunieda by the end of the event, considering the general hype it gets even if it was almost late night local time by the time it was concluded. Still a fun one to raise more awareness to the wheelchair tennis circuit!

Brazil’s ban on X: how scientists are coping with the cutoff
Some are pivoting to alternative social-media platforms and scrambling to rebuild their networks.
Tumblr media
After the social-media platform X was banned in Brazil last week, scientists in the country began scrambling to find another online forum for posting about their research, communicating with collaborators and staying abreast of scientific advances. “Following journals and key people always kept me on top of things,” says Regina Rodrigues, a physical oceanographer at the Federal University of Santa Catarina in Florianópolis, Brazil.
Some feel isolated because of the change. “I’ve lost contact with colleagues and European research groups I joined during my postdoc in Spain,” says Rodrigo Cunha, a communications researcher at the Federal University of Pernambuco in Recife, Brazil.
Others are more sanguine, pointing out that many researchers had already left X (formerly Twitter) after billionaire Elon Musk bought it and changed its policies, including those related to content moderation and how users could be ‘verified, or deemed an authoritative source of information. Sabine Righetti, a science-communications researcher at the State University of Campinas in Brazil, exited the platform early last year owing to what she perceived as an increase in aggressive messages, especially targeting scientists, journalists and women. “I am these three things,” she says.
Ronaldo Lemos, chief scientist at the Institute for Technology and Society in Rio de Janeiro, says the ban might offer a glimpse of what the world would be like without X. Social networks come and go, he says, pointing to some that have shut down, such as Google’s Orkut, which closed in 2014 and was once popular in Brazil. “People adapt and look for ways to reconstruct their networks in other places," he says.

Propaganda
Amália Rodrigues (Fado, a Singer's Story)— I'm gonna be very real with you, the idea of calling Amália hot is kind of unfathomable to me because she's always seemed like some sort of near-mythical entity that went beyond that. But after submitting a bunch of other Portuguese movie stars it occurred to me I couldn't leave her out and she was a beautiful woman. So here she is. She was (and still is in the entire country's collective minds) a singer first and foremost, thee singer of all time actually (of fado). But she also did movies, quite a few of them, often about fado. As a singer she's basically the definition of fado, you wanna know what the genre is about you go listen to her. And be ready for her to make you cry. Linked example
Françoise Dorleac (L'homme de Rio, Les Demoiselles de Rochefort)— One of the first actresses I had a crush on and still is. I want to cry every time I think about her because she is one of many with a tragic story but I just want to include her because she deserves it
This is round 1 of the tournament. All other polls in this bracket can be found here. Please reblog with further support of your beloved hot sexy vintage woman.

When you think of enemies from Super Mario Bros. 2, who comes to mind? Personally, one of the first that comes to MY mind are those weird birds that you find as early as World 1. The borderline flightless ones that were colored red, white and black in the original, but weirdly got some purple coloring in the All-Stars remake — the ones who weirdly barely appeared again. You know,
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Name: Pidgit
Debut: Super Mario Bros. 2/ Yume Kōjō: Doki Doki Panic
Did I actually trick anyone into thinking today’s enemy would be sweet old Tweeter? I don’t know if Tweeter is well-known enough to get that kind of anticipation!
Regardless, Pidgit’s a weird enemy, to be certain! Of course, one could say almost all Super Mario Bros. 2 enemies are weird, but “flightless crow riding on a carpet” is a bit more weird than enemies like “walking bomb”, “walking cactus”, and “bird that drops walking bomb”.
And that’s right: despite its name, Pidgit is a crow, which is not a pigeon at all! It is actually more wrong to name Pidgit after a pigeon than it is to name a gorilla enemy with some sort of hare-related pun in mind. And that’s science!
However, even its original Japanese name is just a portmanteau of “dodo” and “Rodrigues solitaire”, both of which are pigeons…this is Pidgit’s Trick.
This guy’s an oddball, one that didn’t debut in a Mario game and has had very few reappearances since, but has left an inescapable impact since. Before that, though, let’s cherish the reappearances it HAS had!
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Pidgit’s first reappearance is a weird one—instead of riding a magic carpet, it finds itself being blasted out of Turtle Cannons in Fall as the Pidgit Bill! Super Mario World sure seems pretty fond of Super Mario Bros. 2, and this might be one of its most blatant callbacks. Funnily enough, in the SNES version only horizontally-moving Bullet Bills get replaced, which seems fine until you realize Super Mario World also introduces vertically- and diagonally-inclined Bullet Bills. Woopsie!
Pidgit Bills appear in the ending of Super Princess Peach, too, congratulating the player! That’s cute.
Tumblr media
Pidgit’s next appearance would be another weird one. Wario’s Woods has it be one of Wario’s goons, replacing the fairy when Wario appears on the upper right screen to drop only bombs. Remember when Wario was a villain who could have minions? Yeah. Pidgit can fly here without a carpet at all, no foolin’! Is this part of the spell Wario put over his Woods? Is this why Pidgits fight for him? I don’t know! I think they just forgot.
Tumblr media
They wouldn’t reappear until Partners in Time, and wow! This might actually be their only in-game reappearance where they actually ride their carpets! Which reminds me, do Pidgits make their own carpets, or do they get them from somewhere, or…?
I’ve never had nor played this game so I don’t know exactly how they act, but what I do know is that in the American version, they’re stronger and more likely to drop loot than any other version! That’s fun.
Do you remember 12 paragraphs ago, when you still had your youth and I said we’d get back to how Pidgit left an inescapable impact on the franchise? Well, that time is now, and that inescapable impact is the Lakitu!
Tumblr media
“But Weirdma Rio Enemies dot Tumblr dot Com!,” you cry. “Lakitu debuted in Super Mario Bros., before Doki Doki Panic and thus long before Super Mario Bros. 2 was even conceived!” And on that, you’re right. But let’s look at an attribute unique to Pidgit!
You see, Pidgit rides a magic carpet, yes, but when it’s picked up, the player can ride the carpet themselves temporarily — after a certain amount of time, though, the carpet starts flashing before disappearing completely. Sound familiar?
Tumblr media
Sounds a lot like Lakitu’s Cloud, if you ask me! While Lakitus have been riding their fair-weather friends since 1985, we weren’t privy to that same experience till long after Super Mario Bros. 2, in a little game called…Super Mario World! In a game which already has Pidgit, is it truly at all absurd to say it would have just one more reference to it?
So remember, in every game where you can ride a truculent terrapin’s silly cirrus, be sure to thank your local Pidgit!
…man, too bad we couldn’t segue into at least something about Tweeter, huh? First they were bought out by a rich muskrat, now this. Is there anything Tweeterheads get to look forward to?
Tumblr media
the answer is ME!!!!!!
Hi!! I’m Mod Tweeter, and today’s post was written by none other than moi! It’s a real tweat and an honour to join the cast of Oddball Red-Cloaked-Daisy Critters, and I hope you will all enjoy my writings about more sillybeasts in the future!
For now, let’s close this post with a smooth songbird’s swingin’ serenade…

Have you seen this picture of Elvis? I get so exited when I see an Italian connection to Elvis. For example today I discovered he owned several Beretta guns that explicitly say “Made in Italy”. 😍
This is not quite the same, but yeah: BRAZIL! 🇧🇷
Tumblr media
OMG, YES! I'm crazy about that picture, I shared it here months ago. I totally have that feeling too! So cool you mentioned Elvis also collected Italian guns. I know just how you feel about it, dear. 🥹
Well, on Elvis and Brazil, there's a few connections I'll never get over... they're so dear to me.
First, during the last of Elvis' appearances on the Ed Sullivan Show (January 6, 1957), EP performed on the same day as a Brazilian singer named Leny Eversong. They didn't performed together, but I was so happy they got a couple pictures taken that day, backstage. Leny was/is one of the greatest female Brazilian voices. ♥ I don't know if that's true or not, but some places say Elvis told her she reminded him of his momma. Cute.

Another Elvis/Brazil connection took place during his Hollywood era. On my favorite Elvis movie "Live a Little, Love a Little" (1968) there's a song composed by the Brazilian musician, Luiz Bonfá. The song is "Almost In Love", a beautiful ballad which dreamy melody was borrowed from Luiz Bonfá's original 1965 song "Moonlight in Rio", while the lyrics Elvis sings was composed by Randy Starr. According to Luiz Bonfá, in 1968 he was working at MGM and someone (I won't remember who) told him Elvis needed a song for the soundtrack of this 1968 movie. That's when the Brazilian musician would lend his beautiful melody, an original composition, to what would become the song recorded by the King and featured in the 1968 movie "Live a Little, Love a Little" soundtrack.
Brazilian's Bossa Nova was very popular around the world in the 60s but, unfortunately, that was the only song composed by a Brazilian musician that the King ever recorded. Either way I'm so, so proud of it. ♥

youtube
Last but not least, years later, on November 30, 1972 Elvis attended Paul Anka and Brazilian musician Sergio Mendes's opening night at the Caesars Palace in Las Vegas, NV. They met backstage. Sergio Mendes is one of the greatest Brazilian musicians of all times. He was friends with Frank Sinatra (they toured in the 60s). About that night meeting the King, Sergio said Elvis went backstage to congratulate Paul and him for the concert, telling them he did enjoy the show.
Here's some pictures:

Those are the Brazilian connections to Elvis that I know of so far. I don't believe there's more but who knows?
According to Kathy Westemoreland on her Facebook page (as shared on this website), Elvis did enjoy the music of the Portuguese singer, Amalia Rodrigues, known as the "Queen of Fado". Brazilian Portuguese and the Portuguese from Portugal are not the same but they are similar, just like American English and British English, because Brazil was a Portugal colony when it was first "discovered" in 1500, that until 1822 when Brazil became an independent nation. That leaves me wondering if Elvis knew a little bit of Portuguese or not, having him listened to some songs in Portuguese (both from Portugal with the Fado music and from Brazil with our Bossa Nova). That would be so cool, but I've heard or seen nothing that could proved this yet.
Italian language, on the other side, Elvis knew at least one word: "Arrivederci" -- "Oh, no, that's Italian", he said after mistaken German for Italian during a press conference in Germany in 1958, giving us yet another cute moment of him to cherish.
Anyway. Thank you so much for being kind and reminding me of that Army Elvis picture with the Brazil showing in the map right behind him on the wall. I love that picture. It's so silly, but even the slightest connections of Elvis with our different nations thrills us, I know exactly how you feel about the Italian guns he collected. ♥
I bet you love the song "Heart of Rome" too, don't you? Or "It's Now or Never", an English version from an Italian song ("O Sole mio"). I think there's more connections of Elvis and Italy. I'd love to read all about it if you'd like to share, including pictures of the Italian guns Elvis had, if you have any of them.
Ohh, by the way, another cool thing I know connecting Elvis to Italy is that Elvis' suite at the former International Hotel then Hilton Hotel and now Westgate Hotel in Las Vegas, which unfortunately was remodeled and doesn't look like it was when Elvis was there, is named today after a region in central Italy! I've seen somewhere on Youtube that Elvis' actual penthouse suite, when remodeled, was split in two or three different villas. Well, one is named "Tuscany". SO COOL! ⚡🥹 ✨
