I could not contain my tears when he told me that no words could describe what Israel was going to do to our bereaved people. He went silent for a moment as if he was holding back tears and trying to project strength. “Rima, I need you to be strong, even if you come to visit Gaza and none of us are left.” It has been one year, one month, and seven days since I left Gaza. I clearly remember the moment I realized that this was the first time I was going to experience a war on Gaza far from the barbarity of missiles and body parts strewed everywhere. I did not know it would be the most ferocious war yet, and I did not know that those missiles were less powerful than the hallucinations that would haunt me through the night. I did not know that remorse and fear for my family would so utterly destroy me. [...] My family lives in the Jabalia refugee camp in the north of Gaza. The enemy’s warnings to leave to the south mattered little to them. My mother said, “How can I leave my house while our relatives are seeking shelter with us? How can I leave it and repeat the mistakes your grandparents made when they fled the 1948 Nakba?” My father told me the same thing, as do my siblings. I told them, “I am ashamed to tell you what to do, I am with you in my heart and in my prayers. Just be okay, please stay with each other even if you decide to leave for the south.” At noon, the sound of an F-16 bomb interrupted a phone call with my mother. I couldn’t remember what she was even telling me. I knew exactly what that sound was from experience. I was cut off from my family for the rest of that day. My neighbor’s house was bombed and collapsed on its residents. “They bombed Alaa’s house without warning,” my sister Nour told me. It is the house adjacent to my family’s, as is the case with all houses in the camp. I asked her to tell me what happened in detail, and she was terrified at the horror of the scene. I remember the number of family members there. “It’s been six hours, and they haven’t been able to recover a single body. They found a leg and a hand that might be Alaa’s wife’s.” I shuddered and found no answers to my questions. What are these missiles they are using that cause such devastation? I kept trying to call my father so he could tell me something. He finally answered me at 9 p.m. and said: “Mohammad’s wife, his four children, his mother, his brother Hamza and his wife, his brother Ra’afat and his wife and child, his sisters Ghida and Haifa and Diyaa, all were martyred. The rescue workers worked really hard, and they’re still unable to recover Ghida’s body.” How will Mohammad and his father — the only two survivors of the entire family — bear this calamity? How? [x]

On a sunny day in the displacement camps in Gaza, Saleh and Rima were playing around the tent they lived in. Their laughter echoed as they ran between the scattered tents, while the sun shone brightly on the dry ground. Suddenly, they heard a nearby scream. Saleh quickly ran towards the source of the sound, with Rima hurrying behind him.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
When they arrived, they found a mother standing outside her tent, her eyes wide with fear. She pointed with her hand toward the inside of the tent, where a long snake was slithering slowly on the ground. Saleh and Rima stood in shock and fear at the same time. The gentle breeze carried the silence of the camp for a moment as the men gathered to see what was happening.
One of the men grabbed a long stick and cautiously approached the snake, while Saleh stood next to his little sister Rima, trying to reassure her that everything would be alright. The men managed to remove the snake from the tent and drive it away from the camp.
After the situation was resolved, Saleh and Rima returned to playing, but this time they were more cautious, moving with watchful eyes, aware that their lives in the camp were filled with challenges and surprises.
We still in the beginning

“My four-year-old cousin Jad tells me, “Don’t cry, Rima. I’m not afraid of the bombs because we’re going to go to heaven like Uncle who died.” I collapsed into tears. How could a child so young speak about death and bombardment and heaven? How can they be so strong to reassure me, when it should be me reassuring them?”

Sejarah Singkat
A. Kadir Orkes Sinar Kemala
9 July 2007
Mengenang A. Kadir - OM Sinar Kemala
Formasi lengkap OM Sinar Kemala pada tahun 1964.
Wah, di dekat stasiun kereta api Sepanjang, Sidoarjo, saya menemukan kaset lama yang bersejarah. Judulnya: Mengenang A. Kadir.
Ada tulisan lain di sampul: OM Sinar Kemala pimpinan A. Kadir. Lalu, 'Keagungan Tuhan', lagu terkenal OM Sinar Kemala yang ditulis oleh A. Malik Bz. [Abdul Malik Buzaid].
Syukur alhamdulillah!
Sepenuhnya akustik.
SiSI A:
Keagungan Tuhan [karya A. Malik Bz.] penyanyi Ida Laila, Pengantin Baru [A. Kadir] penyanyi A. Kadir, Pujaan Hati [Fouzi] Ida Laila, Pandangan Sekejap [A. Kadir] Ida Laila/A. Kadir, Ingkar Janji [Fouzi] A. Kadir, Tertawan [A. Malik Bz.] Nurkumala, Di Lembah Duka [A. Kadir] Surayah, Jangan Diragukan [Fouzi] A. Kadir, Insan dan Seni [A. Malik Bz.] Fadiah.
SISI B:
Kembalilah Kekasihku [A. Kadir] A. Kadir, Bercerai Kasih [A. Malik Bz.] Ida Laila, Hanya Padamu [A. Kadir] A. Kadir, Tiada Harapan [A. Rafiq], Menanti Kekasih [A. Kadir] A. Kadir, Berjumpa Kembali [A. Kadir] A. Kadir/Ida Laila, Kisah Nan Lalu [A. Malik Bz.] A. Kadir, Suara Jiwaku [Achmad] A. Kadir, Terimalah [A. Malik Bz.] A. Kadir.
Saya beberapa kali memutar kaset lama ini untuk menangkap roh OM Sinar Kemala sekaligus struktur musik melayu 1960-an. Hmm.. ternyata A. Kadir bersama anggota orkes mempersiapkan album ini dengan sungguh-sungguh. Mulai dari pola melodi, ritme, aransemen, hingga seksi gesek [string section] yang mempermanis lagu.
Ida Laila pada 1960-an jelas masih remaja. Suaranya terdengar cempreng [ceper], agak sulit dengan nada rendah. Kenapa nada dasarnya tidak dinaikkan saja? Barangkala Pak A. Kadir sudah mempertimbangkan berbagai aspek sehingga memilih Ida Laila membawakan 'Keagungan Tuhan'.
Irama gambus pun kental terasa.
Yah, hampir semuanyalah. Meski begitu, tema lagu sebagian besar tetap berputar-putar di soal asmara muda-mudi.
Menurut Malik Bz., pada 1960-an hingga 1970-an lirik lagu melayu memang sangat memperhatikan rima alias kesamaan vokal di setiap bait.
Nama pemimpin selalu dicantumkan bersama orkesnya. Maka, kita kenal OM Sinar Kemala pimpinan A. Kadir. Kemudian OM Bukit Siguntang pimpinan A. Chalik.
"Insaflah wahai manusia
Jika dirimu bernoda
Dunia hanya naungan,
'Tuk makhluk ciptaan Tuhan..."
A. Malik Bz. memperlihatkan salah satu piringan hitam OM Sinar Kemala.
Waktu terus berjalan, dunia hiburan Indonesia pada 1970-an awal dibanjiri film-film India. Salah satunya berjudul AWARA.
Bagaimana dengan OM Sinar Kemala pimpinan A. Kadir? "Kami ikut terpukul gara-gara terjadi perselisihan antara Remaco dan Golden Hand," cerita Pak Malik.
Biasa, produser rekaman [pedagang] bertikai soal nafkah.
Orkes pecahan Sinar Kemala antara lain OM Sinar Mutiara [pimpinan Fouzi], OM Awara [pimpinan S. Achmadi], OM Permata [pimpinan Mono Sanjaya]. "Penyanyi A. Rafiq pindah ke Jakarta dan mendirikan A. Rafiq Group," tutur Pak Malik Bz.
A. Rafiq bikin heboh dengan gaya melayu Indianya, plus celana khasnya: celana a. rafiq. Goyangan A. Rafiq pun menjadi trade mark-nya sampai sekarang.
Seniman karbitan merajalela. Saya selalu dipaksa ikut arus industri, tapi nggak mau," ujar Pak Malik Bz.
Pada tahun 1985 Bapak A. Kadir, pendiri OM Sinar Kemala, salah satu pelopor musik melayu di Indonesia, meninggal di rumahnya Jalan Ampel Cempaka 30 Surabaya. OM Sinar Kemala pun wassalam....

Amira Hass In Nabi Saleh, the Palestinians Aren’t Legally Blonde The Tamimi family jokes about everything, but had the bullet hit just a half-millimeter to the side, they wouldn’t have had a son at all
Blond, that’s how the Israelis remember the children from Nabi Saleh, who don’t greet the armed soldiers invading their homes with flowers and chocolate. So for a start, here are three facts. One, there are also children with brown hair and green eyes. Two, Israel has stolen and is continuing the steal the village’s land and springs, by means of the Halamish settlement. And three, as I’ve written in the past, the people of Nabi Saleh are real jokesters.
They joke about almost everything (Bassem Tamimi, a few hours after the arrest of his daughter, Ahed: “The Zionists are finished interviewing me. Now I have time for you.” Then there was the time, during the second intifada, when a Border Policeman caught Abd al-Rahman, a man from the village, driving on a road that was off-limits to Palestinians. He ordered him to stop and asked for his address. Nabi Saleh, came the reply. The name rang a bell for the soldier. “Yeah, we spent a few days there in a military post in a house that we seized,” he said. And Abd al-Rahman answered: “Right, I’ve come to collect the rent.” The soldier burst out laughing and let the kidder go on his way.
It was from them that I heard this historical joke: The first Tamimi came from Saudi Arabia. Before Islam, he had been a winemaker. The Prophet Mohammed was trying to convince him to move to Hebron, to help him spread his message there. What will I find in Hebron, Tamimi asked. They grow marvelous wine grapes there, came the persuasive answer. And thus the Tamimi family settled in Hebron and spread from there throughout Palestine.
I didn’t hear any jokes at the hospital where Mohammed Tamimi has been for over a week. On Friday, December 15, he was shot in the face with a rubber-coated metal bullet, at very close range, by an unnamed soldier. This doesn’t upset the Israelis. The boy had climbed a ladder leaning against on the wall surrounding a vacant house, in whose yard or shed soldiers were posted. When Mohammed’s head poked over the wall, he was shot; the entry point of the bullet was just below his left nostril.
As the bullet made its way through his cheek, stopping behind his ear, Mohammed fell from the ladder, which was at least two meters high. He was unconscious and bleeding so badly that those around him, no strangers to shootings, were terrified. Two teens started shouting “Mohammed is hurt” and word reached his parents’ home. They ran to get him and drove him to the village of Beit Rima, which has an intensive care ambulance. On their way to the hospital, they came across a mobile army checkpoint. At first the soldiers wouldn’t let the ambulance through, Mohammed’s father, Fadel, says. Then the ambulance crew opened the door and the soldiers saw the wounded youth. Yallah, get going, they said, the father noting panic and urgency in their voices.
The Istishari Arab Hospital is on the northern side of Ramallah, on the edge of the suburb of Rehan. It is new and private, founded by a number of Palestinian businesspeople. The view from the windows is of a hilly landscape with fields and orchards and village homes. The rooms are spacious, and the reception area of each ward is furnished with comfortable chairs for visitors. Mohammed’s family sat in one such waiting area while seven surgeons worked to save his life.
The operation began at 9:30 P.M. and continued until 4:30 A.M. Mohammed’s mother, Imtithal, didn’t eat or sleep for two days. On Monday, the doctors brought Mohammed out of sedation. As soon as his family saw that he recognized them all, they began to smile again. Had the bullet hit just a half-millimeter to the side, they wouldn’t have had a son at all, or he wouldn’t have been himself anymore.
In the comfortable waiting room, his brother offers visitors coffee and chocolates. Mohammed can only have visitors twice a day, for one hour in the afternoon and one hour in the evening, and only two people at a time. On Wednesday afternoon, his mother sat with him for half an hour, then came out of the room, happy as can be. “He’s in a hurry. He wants to go home,” she said with a smile. One of his brothers came out of the room and said, “He wants to see Iman,” the eldest brother’s fiancée. Everyone smiles. Mohammed speaks in a weak voice, his face still heavily bandaged. He also sprained his right shoulder when he fell and it’s hard for him to move his arm. But he knows everyone by name and remembers what happened.
The flow of visitors never lets up. From the village and from neighboring villages, from work, friends, cabinet ministers, ordinary folk. They sit for a little bit and then leave. All day long, the father answers phone calls. “Everything’s
After construction began on Halamish, on the lands of Nabi Saleh and other villages in 1978, an American journalist came to interview the villagers, they say. “How long have you been here,” he asked the village elder. The elder took the reporter by the sleeve and led him to the top of a hill overlooking a green, cultivated wadi. “You see the wadi, young man? When Adam and Eve were frolicking there below, we were already here.”

'Poligami nak muliakan janda, last-last isteri pertama jadi janda' - Pesanan lelaki ini kepada golongan suami tentang poligami benar-benar deep
Tumblr media
Kalau saya bergurau tentang madu, tentang poligami, tentang awek, pedih kena sindir dengna isteri saya.
Entahlah, tengok dia uruskan hal saya macam-macam. Dia sanggup mengikut saya keliling taman mencari pelanggan. Kulit pun dah hitam, sampai isteri saya sunburn. Masak, mengemas dan macam-macam lagi dia buat.
Kadang-kadang saya tanya, "Awak penat ke uruskan saya?"
Tak pernah dia cakap penat. Dia cakap, "Pahala saya di akhirat, jangan minta kongsi ye. Saya punya seorang."
Kesimpulan yang saya faham, perempuan ini awak suruhlah dia buat apa pun dia buat, dia taat. Awak marah dia buat salah, dia terima dan dia akur. Kejap lagi dia menangis, dia okeylah tu.
Kalau empat, suku-suku.
Jadi kepuasan awak tetap satu. Sebab isteri awak yang asal akan hilang separuh wajah kebahagiaan rumah tangga yang dia bina bersama awak, apabila awak pergi serahkan hati awak separuh kepada wanita lain.
Jadi itulah ironiknya.
"Habis madu sepah dibuang"
Tiba-tiba mulai esok dia siapkan makanan awak, lalu dia berlalu pergi. Lalu awak minta hak awak sebagai suami. Dia beri tetapi dia membatu, keras kayu.
Lihat wajah bahagianya dulu, suci, bersih, natural. Senyum tak perlu tepek bedak sudah mampu membuat awak meleret senyuman.
"Cantiknya isteri saya.."
Kalau kakaknya, mungkin kakaknya hanya mampu cakap sabar. Tetapi kakaknya masuk bili peluk suami. Tetapi Intan dengan peluk anak-anak.
Nak menangis, tetapi kena sabarkan anak-anak dulu. Mesti takut nak keluarkan air mata sebab takut nampak lemah di depan anak-anak.
"Dalam kitab munakahat mengunjurkan poligami"
Paapp!
"Masa kecil, ayah abaikan kami.
Saya lelaki sangat bersimpati.

Nearly 300 Intellectuals Mobilize Against the Rise of a ‘Fascist Climate’ in Lebanon
The following text is translated from the original article in L’Orient Le Jour and entitled ‘Près de 300 intellectuels se mobilisent contre l’émergence d’un « climat fasciste » au Liban‘. Note that the petition is still open so there are more names being added as we speak. For the Arabic version, click here.
This initiative comes after the polemic surrounding refugees that has degenerated in the past two weeks on social media, notably after the death under torture of Syrian detainees, an issue brought up by many human rights organizations in the aftermath of a raid launched by the Lebanese authorities in Arsal refugee camp.
The polemic was quickly replaced by a wave of hatred accompanied by a xenophobic discourse and culminating in a video showing Lebanese citizens beating up a Syrian refugee, men who were later arrested.
Journalist, writer and poet Youssef Bazzi, who is among those at the origin of the petition, explains that “the objective is not only to rise up against ongoing racist practices”. “Beware! A fascist climate, a militaristic and repressive climate, is slowly taking place. It does not merely aim at supporters of the Syrian revolution or at those who oppose Hezbollah’s interference in Syria”, Bazzi tells L’Orient-Le-Jour, adding that Lebanon is currently suffering from power dynamics in Syrian, currently favoring the Syrian regime and Hezbollah.
Youssef Bazzi adds:
“This climate is an extension of a political atmosphere recently created by those in power, by a political elite that, despite its differences, agrees to remain in power. There exists as well a will to smother any attempts by the civil society to address important topics such as the defense of the constitution, the rule of law, civil liberations and the public order. The problem is therefore not limited to racist practices towards refugees, it goes back to the very essence of our Lebanese identity. Must our identity be compartmentalized and full of hate, or founded on values?”
For the writer, it goes without saying that Lebanese society needs to multiply its cultural, legal, political and humanitarian initiatives to create a real public opinion and reverse the rising trend.
The letter reads:
We, the underlined Lebanese activists, writers, intellectuals, journalists and artists, based on our faith in a Lebanon of freedom, pluralism and that respects human rights, and on our conviction that the national army must be the only armed entity in this country, categorically reject and condemn certain disgusting practices against Syrian civilians that were forced to find refuge in Lebanon.
What follows these practices, such as the campaigns of incitement to hatred against Syrians across social media and in certain media outlets, or via declarations by certain politicians, is no less ugly as the criminal practices themselves. These do not just attack Syrians but the image of Lebanon itself and the conscience of the Lebanese. This does not represent us, but puts us in front of extreme options, including the need to purge our patriotism from its chauvinism. The position adopted towards refugees must become one of the criteria of our patriotism through which we want to consolidate democracy and the respect of human rights.
