have some omo things ive been obsessed with lately as compensation for my lack of existence on here lol

someone who's desperate while playing a video game that they CAN pause. they just dont because theyre SO close to beating this level or they're just having SOOOO much fun. and! they can hold it! theyll get up soon they just wanna keep playing! but as they keep going they do worse and worse at the game and become a squirmy whiny mess and theyre not even having fun anymore. they dont know why theyre still sitting but they HAVE to keep playing. and theyre leaking and starting to cry and it's coming out and it won't stop- then theyre in a mess. embarrassed and ashamed and oh so blushy

someone who's distracted by the tv, they barely register they have to go but theyre squirming and doing a little potty dance. they just wanna see what comes next! they dont wanna miss the next bit! theyre practically on the edge of their SEAT. whether thats because they unconsciously feel the need to hop out of their spot to rush to the bathroom or because of their interest in whats on the tv is... irrelevant... they only really realize that it's BAD when they leak. they try to get to the bathroom but end up with a puddle that spreads down the hall instead

someone who's sitting at a table with others, really REALLY needs to go bad... but can't be excused for whatever reason. so theyre just quiet and trying to hold on until they can leave. crossing their legs and squirming and subtly holding themselves. theyre completely tuned out of the conversation, face sweaty and red. its brushed off as them not feeling well but it just keeps getting worse and then! the pattering sound of liquid dripping onto the floor starts coming from under the table. and all they can do is try to hide their blushy teary face in their hands as the others at the table realize what happened

sleepy wetting where they know they need to go but they just cant get themselves to wake up enough and out of bed. theyre so full it hurts but their body feels so heavy and so so so tired. they do eventually get up but gravity isnt kind to them. and the floor right by their bed gets soaked. or maybe they do make it! but the relief is so nice that they end up falling asleep in the bathroom. (and making a mess and falling over if they stand to pee)

someone who's drunk or high and hilariously pathetic at holding it. theyre leaky and squirmy and a whole mess. they dont know what to do and need someone to help. half way through stumbling to the bathroom they get distracted and FORGET they need to go, until theyre cruely reminded. when they have an accident they just owlishly stare at the wet spot as they slowly register what happened. or maybe theyre overly emotional and just start bawling! either way! theyre a mess

when someone is so obviously desperate but nobody says anything. theyre shifting from foot to foot, crossing their legs, squeezing their thighs, constantly moving, their voice is wavering and they let out noises and huffs and whines. little quiet "o-oh!"s and "mm!"s every so often. its the perfect picture of someone having a full potty emergency to the highest degree but they dont say anything and nobody else does either. everyone knows! and everyones thinking about it! but it's not acknowledged at all until finally the person has an accident. and they apologize, say they thought they could hold it... theyre an embarrassed sad mess and they desperately need a hug

on the other side of the coin, someone who practically shows no emotion when theyre desperate. the only person who can tell is their partner/closest friend. its subtle tells- their muscles tense a bit every now and then, brow furrowed more, tiny shifts in their stance, occasional sighs- nobody else sees it except for the one who knows them the best. and when they have an accident, you wouldnt be able to tell how upset they were... but on the inside theyre VERY upset. and their partner can tell, and they get a long deep hug

Right. Take a deep breath, Jopson needs this." and "As we're sitting down, I'll keep my hand over his knee, that's what couples do, right? thats normal. this is the LAST time im discussing the poker game before i lose the plot. aka "Ukyo was right but still underestimated Gen's insanity"

i’ve been made aware that some believe gen was scheming (or planned the outcome) in the poker game. it was not my initial (or secondary or tertiary) read of the situation because gen clearly kept most of his motivations and feelings to himself but i have been blindsided before so i decided to analyze it with this lens.

logistically, it was a double bluff. gen was working for ryusui but in a way was still working towards the outcome senku wanted most (a diffusion of conflict between the opposing sides and senku’s choice winning). the only way for that to happen would be to afford his services to ryusui and allow senku to beat him. rigging a contest is always an option on the table but gen came to the conclusion that senku couldnt be directly involved, PLUS he would also be able to tell if gen wasn’t trying honestly to win so he put real effort into winning-- for the loss to be more honest, he essentially put his trust in senku to come out on top. the question then becomes what was the real conflict of this fight? the conversation occuring in the game wasnt between senku and ryusui, it was between senku and gen.

after senku wins, ukyo calls this out as someone who has closely observed their dynamic in private settings. he assumes that gen predicted the benefits of either side winning but if that was truly the case gen wouldnt have needed to get involved. in the image ukyo brings to mind gen is in between senku and ryusui, but very clearly on senku’s side.

Gen's response is to brush off this theory and deflect but he does offer a real response. at first i believed gen was forlorn because he came to a painful conclusion about their dynamic from this moment forward, interpreting the loss as a kind of rejection, but it's far more complicated.

i felt similarly to senku when gen chose ryusui, he was pissed off and that was a genuine reaction. but how could gen have done something for senku’s sake without telling him? well, he factored senku’s frustration/response because at every opportunity where senku has to act he doesn’t do it convincingly. that final shot of senku tells me that even though he won, something shifted in their perception of each other. we never really come to understand what he thought but if i continue my line of logic, maybe he figured out that gen manipulated him and was feeling some type of way bc of how gen predicted the way things would play out.

but that's not the only betrayal that takes place. this language of surprising each other or tricking the other is natural to them, and there is also varying amount of power exchange when this occurs. it’s bad enough that the generals were opposed and created a rift between the entire crew, but senku was also fighting to get gen back on his side. he’d probably rationalize it by assuming that this is his one chance to assure gen never attempts to go against him again in the future. a necessary and maybe anxious move on his part as they move to this next stage in the americas. he very visibly and confidently reasserts his power. in other words, he’s talking in a language that speaks specifically to gen. with this win, senku re-established whatever weird claim they have on each other. somewhere underneath that layer of what it meant for him to “win” is that deep devotion that links them together and they'll never talk about that seriously, only with these indirect, absurd mind games.

because heres the thing: gen did trick him.

when senku and ryusui give their reasoning, senku makes it very clear that they need to get there in time for the kingdom to make use of the corn for all the revival fluid they need.

in ukyo’s theory he concluded that the outcome wouldn’t have mattered regardless of who won. but i think that’s wrong, externally gen expresses that the REAL part was the game, he leaves the rest up in the air because its too intimate, those are feelings and thoughts he's rather keep to himself, or the person who completely saw through him. because when he's on his own, in the belly of the beast, this sick little fuck is thinking about THIS outcome. the pleasure he gets from being able to do something selfish, completely unburdened by moral, all for senku's sake.

i struggled with the idea that gen planned this bc i thought senku MUST have been in the know. but i realize now that not only did he not know, that's where the impetus of the conflict. sometimes gen doesn’t know what senku is thinking! he’s skilled but he’s still human, the important conclusion to draw from most situations that explore their dynamic is that even if they can’t 100% predict what the other person will do, they still completely trust that the other person will act in accordance to the current goal. they're sick freaks.

front lines

as darry watched the actors prance around on stage, his eyes were on you the whole time.

you'd gotten a pretty big part in the community play and been practicing at darry's place like crazy.

he knew your sung lines were coming up, and he felt his heart skip and his stomach flip as he heard your heavenly voice ring out suddenly, making the crowd erupt in cheers as everyone else went quiet onstage to hear you bless them with song.

sodapop was bouncing excitedly in his seat on darry's left, shaking his arm and whispering "glory look at y/n!"

ponyboy on his right just stared at the stage in awe, smiling. it was like a movie to him, just more real.

as the song ended and the theatre erupted in applause again, darry couldn't help but catch you eye, to which you gave him a soft wink.

the next few minutes were speaking lines, and darry couldnt help but admire at how into it you were. you were so in character, so...in your element.

it made him happy to see you do your little thing.

once the show ended, there was a roar of applause and cheers as the actors came out to hold hands and bow.

he spotted you smiling and he mirrored it, feeling a happy feeling in his chest as his brothers on either side of him bounced around and clapped.

after the actors had been released, darry stuck around by the back of the theatre, a small bouquet of flowers in his hand.

he found you smiling and sweaty: stage makeup running down the side of your neck, mic tape on your cheek (because it only sticks when the mic is gone 😔) , and strands of hair falling out of your hairstyle. yet he thought you'd never looked more beautiful.

"you came!" you say, as if he wouldnt have. he smiled and handed you the flowers pressing a kiss to your lips.

"did great out there, sweetie." was all his dignity allowed him to say, when he really wanted to fangirl over you like his brothers were doing right now.

you giggled as soda fawned over you and ponyboy gave you a hug.

"cmon, what do yall think about dinner out?"

you all immediately agreed, especially since it was rare that yall ate out.

darry snuck you another shy smile, to which you returned with another kiss as the brothers went ahead to get seated in the car.

"like the show?"

After a long four days without updates (it’s convention season), Homestuck is BACK and I am so excited to be back. We pick back up with this beautiful panel of Jade’s dreambot surrounded by clouds, stars, lilypads… and frogs. Frogs which have previously been referred to as ‘Cherished Idol[s]’ that ‘play a special role in [John’s] quest’ but are also ‘ILLEGAL CONTRABAND’ (p.1358), and are simultaneously ‘sacred/illicit’ (p.1359). So the fact that they’re just hanging out here on Jade’s very Skaia-influenced island, hours at most before her entry into the Medium, has to be relevant.

Jade has built Dave’s house up to the First Gate here, and we previously saw Dave so the same to Rose’s (p.1689) so everyone is ready to progress in the game except for Jade herself, who’s stuck until John finds that disc. Jade is also directly in the narrative text again, which isn’t even weird because she’s so used to engaging with cosmic forces far beyond her control, I just find it worth noting each time. Finally, Jade has an entourage of Prospit agents watching her build, which is very cute. Maybe this tweet from a day before this page was posted has something to do with it.

Jade then reveals that her ‘neighbor in the other tower is supposed to be waking up soon’ (p.1819) which simply does not feel right. John has such a full schedule – he’s in the veil, he needs to do some ectobiology that he put on the suit for, he needs to talk to carcinoGeneticist again, he needs to go back to LOWAS, find the server disc and get Jade into the Medium, he needs to tell his friends about this Reckoning that’s about to happen, he might still be trying to save his dad, and now he’s also got to take a nap?? Of course he should sleep if he’s tired but his to do list within the story is REALLY piling up while everyone else is just alchemizing and building. We gotta cut back to John soon because I’m worried about him.

Then, Dave wakes up and starts alchemizing, and gets a little weird with it. He has more base materials to work with than Rose as he has all of future Dave’s stuff and I think he’s also less interested in being economical with grist, so here’s what he’s made so far.

iShades (Sunglasses && iPhone) – I think there is no need to give Apple this free publicity but it is cute that the Daves now have matching sunglasses.

Turntop (Timetables && Computer) – oh it has time powers you say?? perhaps the power to send messages through time? That almost doesn’t seem right because I feel like future Dave would have sent messages to his friends in the past if he later developed that power. Still, it’s possible the trolls did get those powers through some smart alchemy combinations. Anyway the two half keyboards feel intrinsically wrong somehow even though I know in my heart that is how typing works.

Red Plush Puppet Tux (Suit || Red Smuppet) – Hey Dave, why exactly do you want to wear a puppet? Why do you wanna be wrapped in the thing that’s tormented you your whole life? Also much like Rose’s velvet/wool dress, this thing will get WAY too hot for adventuring. These kids have never heard of breathable fabrics and Dave is on a lava planet. Dave also speculates about how the original suit was made, ending with ‘That's how you would have made it anyway.’ (p.1823). I don’t think this will get answered but I’d personally like it if Dave was wrong about this, just like he was wrong when he told John Davesprite ‘wouldnt give a shit’ about being told he wasn’t the real Dave (p.1692). Honestly I think that past versions of me would also misunderstand and misinterpret my current self so seeing that played out with Dave, especially when he’s so confident he’s right, is super interesting to me.

Broken Scarlet Ribbitar (Broken Caledscratch && Ruby Frog) – This is the first time we’ve seen the name of Dave’s sword, ‘Caledscratch’. A quick search for ‘caled sword’ pulls up a 2008 Arthurian mythology article saying that Caledfwlch was the early Welsh name for Excalibur, and Caladbolg was a sword belonging to an Irish folk hero, both from the Welsh/Irish word for ‘hard’. So ‘Caledscratch’ = ‘hard scratch’ which, yeah, that’s exactly what a sword does I guess. ‘Scratch’ could also refer to a record scratch, appropriate for the record on its hilt. Sometimes the names of things in this comic annoy me because in all my years of DMing I’ve never come up with anything this good.

Scarlet Ribbitar (Unbroken Caledscratch && Ruby Frog) – This is confirmation on how the sword actually works – Dave ‘dial[s] back CALEDSCRATCH'S little turntable, rewinding the sword to a point in its history before it was broken’ (p.1826). This was sort of implied by seeing it in action during ‘[S] Dave: Accelerate’ (p.1641) but it stated outright here. Anyway, neither this or the broken version get made because they cost millions of a mystery grist, perhaps a frog themed grist given the importance of frogs. Either way, I think combining anything with a frog will be an expensive item. Also I’d love to see what the reverse combination (Caledscratch || Ruby Frog) would look like – a frog with a sword for a tongue that can rewind/fast forward between tadpole and frog??

SORD….. – (Prop Sword && Hella Jeff) – This costs 0 grist and is completely unusable as a weapon. Sburb is like I don’t care just have this and get it away from my fancy technology. The fact that it turns not only the sword but also Dave himself and the panel he’s in to a SBAHJ quality level - and turns the alchemiter display font to Comic Sans - is potentially very disturbing, and could maybe be weaponized (for example, prototyping a sprite with a SORD….. might depower enemies a whole lot). I actually really badly want to make a SORD….. in real life and to cosplay this version of Dave at Comic Con this fall or something even though I super don’t have the time/money. Its design is as compelling as it is ridiculous.

Snoop Dogg Snow Cone Machete (Snoop && Air Conditioner || Caledscratch) – Okay I was confused about the Peanuts characters but having researched this, Snoop Dogg was a big fan of Peanuts and took his name from Snoopy, so it does make sense, even though I think Dave would find Peanuts way too earnest. I guess it makes sense for Dave to make an ice themed weapon given the heat of his planet, but this honestly reminds me of John’s Wrinklefucker (p.1068) – it’s a cool idea and looks useful, but doesn’t perfectly fit the character’s vibe.

To be continued, probably. We haven’t yet seen a panel of Dave surrounded by all his sweet loot so I’m sure he has more up his sleeve.

Chickens likely domesticated themselves the same way wolves did which is basically by hanging around our settlements and eating our refuse.

Living with chickens in this sort of way was likely happening way before the estimated times of 8,000- 10,000 years ago. The relationship was likely already long established it was just during that time some chickens started developing smaller/weaker adrenal glands which caused them to become much easier to raise and handle which eventually lead to the domesticated chicken we know of today (and how that happened so suddenly is a completely different but very interesting topic)

Also due to this you could argue that there isn't any true wild red jungle fowl left untouched and uninfluenced by humans anymore. Not only due to constant cross breeding with domestic chickens but because red jungle fowl are still doing what their ancestors did in their current range, if there is a town or village nearby the bravest junglefowl will still choose to intermingle with the village and eat the refuse, agricultural byproducts, and waste. People will still catch and care for these "wild" birds like their ancestors did. This isn't to say we shouldn't try our best to preserve the wild red jungle fowls wild genetics, their should be populations left to be in their natural environment but it's likely they are not truly same wild birds they once were thousands of years ago and honestly that's OK because thats how its been for thousands of years.

The widow or, 부네 (Punae/bune): represented to be a widow, or a kisaeng ( a woman who sang, danced, or played an instrument to provide entertainment for company at a drinking party), or a mistress of the Yangban. She has a very small mouth, round cheeks and forehead- giving a general look of happiness good-humor.
