Hi
I was wondering if you know anything about the two people that Dan Lin is putting in charge of Rideback “… newly installed co-Chief Executives Jonathan Eirich and Michael LoFaso.” Is the company, and therefore projects like Walker, being left in good hands?
https://www.latimes.com/entertainment-arts/business/story/2024-02-28/netflix-hires-producer-dan-lin-for-top-film-job-replacing-scott-stuber
Rideback Productions is Dan Lin's baby so he's going to make sure it's in good hands because that Netflix job isn't forever, and he will eventually return to Rideback.
As for the chargees, I don't know anything about them outside of what IMDb says, but it's fun to speculate! Going by what Jonathan Eirich studied at Harvard, he clearly got into that school through the "affirmative action for rich kids" program. So he is the connection guy in the industry. His wife is a movie executive for Paramount.
Michael LoFaso, on the other hand, is clearly the money management brain of the two: he has an actual business degree from Harvard and a degree in Mathematical Economics from Colgate University and co-founded two tech companies.
How do you tell these two apart?

The qrts on this are literally people getting mad and going "WOW way to MISS THE POINT" which, I agree with! But this is the same studio that made the opla, and this is the exact same thing they did to Luffy, by making Luffy care more about finding the grand line map than wanting adventure and a crew!
Tomorrow Studios is literally incapable of having a free flowing plot without an in your face exposition device. You can shorten down a story without removing natural elements of narrative or character. Both Luffy AND Aang's main personality of character is loving the adventure and the freedom of their lives. This studio is taking both of these go-with-the-flow characters and stripping them of their personality because... they're easier to write when they're put in a box, I guess?
I'm not sure why anyone is surprised at this point when Tomorrow Studios keeps doing this, but I suppose that's the difference when you use the original creator's name as a safety net for one and not the other!
Edit: my bad Tomorrow Studios is not actually making this one it's being developed by Rideback. Got my wires crossed due to the Netflix workers overlap. Either way, nice to see Netflix seems to be the rooted problem here, as it tends to be 😭
#sorry for that it's just the backlash for this is insane when??? THE SAME THING HAPPENED TO ONE PIECE#but because Oda's name was attached to it and they marketed it like CRAZY people ate it up#I'm BEGGING everyone to realise Tomorrow Studios does NOT care about the art of adaptation they ONLY care about taking successful products#and cashing in on it#melon speaks#oplatalks#i love atla so hearing they were also adapting atla made my tear my hair out LMAO#like they genuinely do not care about the original property and especially not animation to me#or if they do?? they're sure really bad at trying to adapt it!

‘Avatar: The Last Airbender’ Renewed For Two Seasons At Netflix; Live-Action Series Will Conclude With Season 3
Avatar: The Last Airbender, the anime-inspired live-action series, will be able to tell the story of the four nations: Water. Earth. Fire. Air after Netflix renewed it for a further two seasons.
The streamer has handed the show a two-season renewal order to conclude the story of Aang’s journey to become the Avatar.
It comes after the show premiered on Netflix on February 22 and recorded 41.1M views in its first 11 days, topping its TV list for the last two weeks and being on track to enter its top ten most-watched list over its first three months.
The plan is to film these two seasons – seasons two and three – in close succession in order to mitigate the fact that child actors tend to grow up quickly.
The series comes from Rideback, whose boss Dan Lin, an exec producer on the series, was recently named Netflix’s new film chief, replacing Scott Stuber. Albert Kim is showrunner, having replaced original creators Michael Dante DiMartino and Bryan Konietzko in 2020.
Its three season run will mirror the structure of the animated series, which featured three books across three seasons to Aang’s story that premiered on Nickelodeon in 2005, and became a hit on Netflix during the early stages of the pandemic.
It’s not clear how many episodes will be produced for season two and three. Season one features eight episodes.
Avatar: The Last Airbender takes place in a world that is divided into four nations: the Water Tribes, the Earth Kingdom, the Fire Nation, and the Air Nomads. “Benders” are people that have the ability to telekinetically manipulate and control the element corresponding to their nation, using gestures based on Chinese martial arts. The “Avatar” is the only individual with the ability to bend all four elements.
The four nations once lived in harmony, with the Avatar, master of all four elements, keeping peace between them. But everything changed when the Fire Nation attacked and wiped out the Air Nomads, the first step taken by the firebenders towards conquering the world. With the current incarnation of the Avatar yet to emerge, the world has lost hope. But like a light in the darkness, hope springs forth when Aang (Gordon Cormier), a young Air Nomad — and the last of his kind — reawakens to take his rightful place as the next Avatar.
Alongside his newfound friends Sokka (Ian Ousley) and Katara (Kiawentiio), siblings and members of the Southern Water Tribe, Aang embarks on a quest to save the world and fight back against the onslaught of Fire Lord Ozai (Daniel Dae Kim). But with a driven Crown Prince Zuko (Dallas Liu) determined to capture them, it won’t be an easy task. They’ll need the help of the many allies and colorful characters they meet along the way. Ken Leung and Paul Sun-Hyung Lee also star.
Kim and Lin exec produce produce alongside Jabbar Raisani, Lindsey Liberatore and Michael Goi. Goi and Raisani directed episodes in season one alongside Roseanne Liang and Jet Wilkinson.
It is Netflix’s second anime-inspired live-action hit after One Piece, following a rocky start in the genre with Cowboy Bepop. The streamer highlighted it as one of its latest successful adaptations, coming on the back of other IP-driven series such as The Sandman, Wednesday, Arcane andSweet Tooth.
The creative team behind the series is keen to expand the story. Avatar executive producer and director Jabbar Raisani told Deadline that there’s stuff that they filmed that didn’t make it into season one.
“If we get another season, then we will certainly have those things, because I know what we missed now and I know how to do better the second time around,” he said. “The animated series is a really good guide…for where the show can go.”

Jared's not only helped to create a positive set environment, he's also helped to create a show that is efficient and budget-friendly. You want to impress those suits in the big offices, save them money. Walker was the only show to come back on the CW without a trimmed cast or a trimmed episode count and I think that says volumes about the work Jared and the other producers have put in to create a cost-effective show that also supports a union-friendly cast/crew environment.
I'm glad you saw the TCA info. I think Walker has a good chance of a s5, too. Jared et al have certainly done their part eliminating any waste, and CBS with licensing fees. They are in line with cash flow if they get last year's numbers. As we knew, it's all ROI for this group. So we'll see if the GA (and fandom) shows up on time. But in either case, Walker has deeply impressed the number crunchers, so I'd think Jared has a shot at putting another project on there as a producer man(Welcome back)
Agree that Walker's ROI, Jared's solid reputation, and the set's reputation as an enviable place to work further strengthen Jared's favorable odds of getting post-Walker projects.
Daniel Lin is the primary producer of Walker and his company, Rideback, is responsible for blockbusters like Sherlock Holmes, Lego movies, Aladdin. But the real money is in television and Lin's first hit tv show was Lethal Weapons, but then it infamously imploded with actors more interested in fighting with each other and complaining to executives than working or taking care of the cast and crew. Walker is Rideback’s second hit tv show and its set being the opposite of Lethal Weapon’s set will only put Jared in very good standings with Lin and other potential producers.
Hollywood is just as much about reputation as performance and if an actor has been known to be difficult and cause chaos on the set, then they’re not going to get top tier offers. Val Kilmer should have been a movie star on the same level as Tom Cruise, especially since he’s arguably the better actor. But Vals’ mercurial nature sabotaged his career after the 90s.
