Bowie's Station To Station is one of my three favourite records of his. The other two are Low and Outside, though I shall discuss the former, because I talk about Bowie's late 70's. The latter – my theory – transformed him into Bowie we cherish. Sure, his glam rock days caused many to notice him, yet most albums from Station to Station on showed the multitudes the early records merely hinted at. Low, in particular, remains an intriguing listen, one could consider that his detox record. Moreover, one is surprised at how organic the disc sounds despite the electronic shenanigans. The tune in the link, for instance, has a share of weird sonic elements, yet the reason the piece works? Bowie is backed by an incredibly tight band that collaborated with him before this.

The passenger Song written by Iggy pop and Ricky Gardiner, recorded and released by Iggy pop on their 1977 album Lust for life. I personally prefer the song sung by Siouxsie Sioux, because I find her voice more fitting.

Created by myself an @msmhari this morning. Neither of us have time to flesh out this fic right now, but wanted to share the dopamine.
Casting the OFMD Pride and Prejudice AU. (spoilers I guess? The book is 200 years old, if I spoil it, then I spoil it)
Starting with the major pairings:
Mr. Bingley and Jane- hopelessly in love, of course, Stede and Ed.
Mr. Darcy and Lizzy- Darcy is smart, competent, but generally perceived as an asshole. I give you, Mr. Izzy Hands. But as we all know, Izzy is the fandom bicycle. So who is our clever, cheeky, and a little bit mouthy Lizzy Bennet? Lucius it is.
Lydia and Mr Wickham- This one’s a bit cheeky, but it’s my tumblr and I do what I want. And I fully blame @msmhari for Wickham. Lydia is Archie. Don’t worry- we’ll get back to her. She’ll be just fine. Wickham is Ricky. He dies of natural causes. Murder is a natural cause right?
Now let’s round out our families. First, the Bennet Sisters: Kitty and Mary will be played by Frenchie and Wee John. They share a room.
Lady Catherine is Auntie. Terrifying and knows it. Unless you’re Lizzy.
If Lucius is Lizzy, where’s Pete? Pete is Mr. Collins. I’m sorry Black Pete fans, please don’t come for us.
Spanish Jackie and the Swede are the Gardiners. They love love and just want to see everybody happy. Bonus points if they don’t have to clean up after their family of muppets anymore.
Jim and Olu are Mr. Bingley’s (Stede) “Siblings”. Archie runs off with them. See? She’s fine. No one gives a fuck about Ricky/Wickham. Olu is married to Zheng. #garlicsoup
Fang is Darcy’s cousin Fitzwilliam. A sweet gentleman who softens Lizzy (Lucius) towards Darcy (Izzy)
Mary is the woman that Mr. Bingley (Stede) was rumoured to be courting when he fucked off to London for a bit. Meanwhile Jane (Ed) is moping to Lizzy in her pillow fort.
Not entirely sure what to do with Buttons, but hey, that’s nothing new.
There are two very important characters left. Mr and Mrs Bennet. And personally, my favorite of our little fan cast.
Mr Bennet is the leader of this little mess. He created it. Brought it into the world. This is his circus and these are his monkeys. Thus I give you, the Daddy of our little crew, David Jenkins.
So who is the counterpoint to our producer and creator? The organizer who steers the ship? Mrs Bennet loves pairing up her daughters, and clowns just as hard as any of the fans. Silly and a bit chaotic, and really just wants to see Jane get all Mooney over her husband?
Javid Denkins, aka David Jenkins in a bonnet.
You’re welcome.

(46 YEARS AGO) August 29, 1977 - Iggy Pop: Lust for Life is released.
# All Things Music Plus+ 5/5
# Allmusic 5/5
# Rolling Stone (see original review below)
Lust for Life is the second solo album by Iggy Pop, released on August 29, 1977. It reached #120 on the Billboard Top 200 LP's chart and #28 on the UK Albums chart.
Iggy and Bowie at the height of their respective powers presented a formidable artistic engine, and Lust For Life sees them working up a full head of steam. Two songs will need little introduction - 'Lust For Life' and 'The Passenger' are as intrinsic to the tapestry of 70s rock music as sundry Beatles efforts were to the previous decade (their influence on 90s film soundtracks is a testament to their durability). Those monolithic jukebox favorites aside, listeners may also find space in their hearts for the swaggering 'Neighbourhood Threat' (shades of the Stooges, without the musical clatter) and the disquieting 'Turn Blue', written from the viewpoint of an overdosing junkie.
The Lust for Life sessions took place soon after the completion of a concert tour in support of The Idiot album, the tour ending on 16 April 1977. Pop has stated, "David and I had determined that we would record that album very quickly, which we wrote, recorded, and mixed in eight days, and because we had done it so quickly, we had a lot of money left over from the advance, which we split."
The singer slept little during its making, commenting "See, Bowie's a hell of a fast guy... I realized I had to be quicker than him, otherwise whose album was it gonna be?" Pop's spontaneous lyrical method inspired Bowie to improvise his own words on his next project, "Heroes".
Bowie, Pop, and engineer Colin Thurston produced Lust for Life under the pseudonym "Bewlay Bros." (name via the final track on Bowie’s Hunky Dory). The recording was made at Hansa Studio by the Wall in Berlin and featured Ricky Gardiner and Carlos Alomar on guitars with Hunt and Tony Sales on drums and bass, respectively. With Bowie on keyboards and backing vocals, the team included three-quarters of the future Tin Machine line-up; the Sales brothers’ "gale-force" contribution to this album led Bowie to invite them to join his new band twelve years later ("Check out Lust For Life," he told guitarist Reeves Gabrels, "I’ve found the rhythm section!").
__________
ORIGINAL ROLLING STONE REVIEW
Iggy Pop's second comeback album leaves one with ambivalent feelings: glad that Iggy is alive, apparently well, writing, singing and performing again, but upset because his new stance is so utterly unchallenging and cautious. Taken purely on its own terms, Lust for Life is a successful album. Side one is quite good, starting with the title cut, which rocks with a Sandy Nelson-like drum style while Iggy delivers his survivor message to the masses, and continuing to the closing track, "Tonight," easily the most straightforward pop song Iggy has written. Side two is considerably weaker, with a pair of overdrawn ballads, an infectious throwaway and one bona fide winner, the ominous "Neighborhood Threat."
Were this just another album by just another artist, that might be the end of it, but Iggy Pop has never been just another entertainer. As rock's truest bad boy, Iggy led the Stooges with a vision of frustrated, depressed and angry young adult life that will probably never be seen (or dared) again. That he has come back from the edge relatively intact is almost a miracle. With David Bowie as producer and guide, he is actually realizing a career for the first time. Like Lou Reed, Iggy is most likely headed on a course just left of center, bizarre enough to attract those inclined toward something different but safe enough not to scare them away.
It is questionable, though, whether Iggy has anything important left to say. To make any art in the future, he would probably have to start self-destructing, and neither he nor any of us really want to see him crawling through the broken glass again. Here comes success, Iggy, and you deserve it more than just about any perform I've ever seen or heard. I just wish there were some way that your music could be important and your life happy at the same time.
~ Billy Altman (January 12, 1978)

"Barking Mad"
Author: Ted Tayler Narrated by: Roger Clark Series: "The Freeman Files Series", Book #6 Release Date: December 27, 2022 Length: 6 hours, 34 minutes
👇 Care to listen to a sample of this audiobook? Click on the media player below 👇
Overview:
Why did pet-shop owner Mark Malone die in a hail of bullets in May, 2015? Gus Freeman and the Crime Review Team who investigate cold cases are faced with many questions but few answers.
Mark Malone’s BMW had tinted windows, a lowered suspension, and a loud car stereo. He drove it at speed along the Beckhampton road late at night back in 2015. That wasn’t unusual. It was hard to resist speeding on that stretch of road, and hundreds of drivers have been caught speeding there every year. Several died in high-speed accidents.
What made the Malone incident different was that, fifteen minutes earlier, he had stopped at a garage on the A4 in Bath Road, outside Marlborough. A grey 7-series BMW stopped behind him, and the two drivers appeared to argue. As Malone reached the outskirts of Devizes, someone fired six shots with a handgun. Malone lost control of his car and hit several parked vehicles before ending up in a garden. He got hit twice in the head and died in the hospital later that morning.
The attack might have been a case of road rage or mistaken identity. Killer Ricky Gardiner is on the run from the police. Who will catch up with him first?

David Bowie and Iggy Pop Collaborator Ricky Gardiner Dies at 73
- “Nicest guy who ever played guitar,” Pop says of former bandmate
Scottish guitarist Ricky Gardiner, best known for his 1970s work with David Bowie and Iggy Pop, has died at age 73.
“Another guitar genius and personal friend passed into the next world,” longtime Bowie producer Tony Visconti said in announcing the musician’s death, citing an email from Gardiner’s wife, Virginia.
“Very sorry to hear this news,” Blondie drummer Clem Burke, aka Elvis Ramone, tweeted.
Gardiner played on Bowie’s Low and Pop’s The Idiot and co-wrote “The Passenger” for the latter. The guitarist toured with Pop when Bowie was in the band as keyboardist.
“Dearest Ricky, lovely, lovely man, shirtless in your coveralls, nicest guy who ever played guitar,” Pop wrote on Twitter. “Thanks for the memories and the songs, rest eternal in peace.”

Prior to working with Bowie and Pop, Gardiner co-founded with the Scottish group Beggars Opera. Singer Martin Griffiths said Gardiner “lifted us with his beautiful guitar playing.”
“Ricky sent our songs into space,” Griffiths wrote on Facebook, adding: “When I think of the incredible times we had together … well …”

Ricky Gardiner (1948-2022) was a distinguished guitarist who worked with David Bowie, producer Tony Visconti, and Iggy Pop, in their peak period of creativity, 1976-77. Here is as fine a sample of his work as you will need, it is a re-recording of the instrumental music for ‘Heroes’ over which David does a live vocal for ‘Top of The Pops’. Gardiner remained a recording artist long after, doing what modern artist do, setting up his own label/website. Here is that website.
