my two roman empires - richard ii kiss, and 1941!

this was actually for the good omens after dark valentine's art exchange, my gift for u/budgiedraws. they were open-ended with their prompt/request, and I have really been wanting to do That One Richard II kiss-but-make-it-aziracrow-and-also-reverse-it for many weeks, and this gave me the perfect opportunity!

(it's also uh my very first full color digital painting and i! am in my head about it something fierce!! lol)

i just think it’s the most human kiss i’ve ever seen. and the dialogue leading up to it is gorgeous. and silence afterwards says so much.

David Tennant kisses that SEND ME

Somehow the way David and Michael acted The Kiss™️ makes it both more and less painful. This is gonna sound weird but like- by no account is it what one would describe as “romantic”. In fact, “romantic” is the last thing I would describe it as.

In no known universe was that kiss “romantic” because that’s not what it was supposed to be.

It was supposed to be earth shattering, selfish, hopeless, hopeful. It was a last hidden, desperate “I love you”, it was searching for something that neither of them could find, a final plea. It’s savage and selfish and brewing with love and war and peace and hatred. It was saying “goodbye” to what could have been forever. It was a kiss trying to express the same amount of emotion that had stayed inside each of them for 6000 years. It was a kiss doing the job of millions of other kisses.

Maybe if it was a smaller, quieter kiss, we would have wondering what could have been. Maybe we would have cried out just as much because what else has their relationship been aside from a few, well veiled remarks and actions? Maybe we could have convinced ourselves that that was all they needed for now.

But for the first time in millennia, they went big. Crowley went for it. Because Aziraphale was trying to make a change- so why shouldn’t he? Why should he just throw it out there because it might be his last chance- their last chance. Because, in 6000 years the closest he had come to saying those three words were just small, inconspicuous remarks of friendship. Why should he raise the white flag now, when they had come so close to having a life together?

Because, after an eternity of small, quiet “I love you”s, why should their final try at saying it aloud to each other be quiet as well?

But that kiss beneath the open sky, between Richard’s warmth and the cool air, the scent of earth and leaves and the sound of water, rendered him entirely powerless.

it’s so fucking funny that we have proof dt and ms can act out passionate gay kisses but the one they had with each other was baddd (in character, made sense, yadda yadda, BUT STILL)

Every day I laugh thinking what if as actors they can do everything in the world except American accents and kissing each other? I would not wish this on us or them but there’s something so hysterically funny if two people have such sizzling chemistry it gets a whole nothing-ass show renewed but they can’t kiss.

I just keep thinking about the Richard II kiss (you know the one) and of course, like everyone else here with stage IV good omens brainrot (with comorbid acute-on-chronic blorbosis) I’m picturing Crowley there. but the more I rotate it in my head -

this would be such an Aziraphale kiss tbqh. Think about it - Crowley had his turn, for their first kiss, in the final fifteen, of being beyond what can be accomplished with words and launching himself at Aziraphale lips-first.(1) So narratively it’s Aziraphale’s turn to be in that role, and this kiss in particular has his character written all over it.

It speaks to a hunger, a breathless, naked want that’s too overwhelming to tame it into something more demure or polite or with anything like plausible deniability/pretense. Ox rib devourer type stuff.
