What’s Going on in Allen?
By: The Leibow Team
Money Magazine struck again ranking Allen, Texas as the #2 “Best Places to Live in 2017.” So, I wanted to dive into some detail as to why this community was ranked so high last year. My first question was, “how Money Magazine determines its ranking?” According to this years analysts, they looked at three main factors: economic opportunities, access to amenities that make life more enjoyable, and a sense of community. After researching the city, I can certainly see why Allen ranked so high in this years’ issue.
First, let me offer you some basic data on Allen, Texas: Population: 96,045, Median House Price: $323,676, Average Commute to Work: 29 minutes, High School Graduation Rate: 96.9%.
Those are some pretty amazing statistics! Allen is considered one of the smaller suburbs of Dallas, but saw $1.6 billion in development during 2017. Tech companies and cyber security companies recently migrated to this area providing job opportunities to local residents. Just this year, Hines, an international real estate investment company, announced plans for a mixed use development called “The Strand.” “With The Strand, we are creating a new center complete with unique urban walkability, activated public space, parks and plazas and unparalleled on-site amenities. Visitors will experience The Strand as an urban fabric that’s seamlessly woven with the natural landscape.” – Drew Steffen, Managing Director.
But The Strand will not stand alone in this plaza style urban experience. Allen already hosts Watters Creek, which is a poplar, scenic outdoor shopping area. This development has become a popular spot for adults and families alike with its patio dining, large green area, playground, and a live music series during the summer. Another amazing activity center can be found at the Don Rodenbaugh Natatorium, with its fully enclosed water park and rock climbing wall! And for those extreme sports enthusiasts, Allen is also home to Hydrous Wake Park, an outdoor wakeboarding center and The Edge, one of the country’s largest outdoor skate parks!
And if all that excitement isn’t enough to get your interest piqued over what Allen has to offer, Allen ISD is consistently ranked one of the best school systems in the state! Students routinely out perform the state average for both math and reading. Plus it boasts the largest high school football stadium in the United States! So if Allen seems like a place you could enjoy life, or raise a family, give me a call. I would be happy to show you some beautiful homes available in the area.
