⤷ female, ambiguous race, and any size reader. Requests are open, thank you for reading!
a/n: The reader is Daemon's daughter

𝑺𝑭𝑾🌿
𝑫𝒂𝒆𝒎𝒐𝒏
・He would have a very layered reaction.
・If the match was for political reasons, then he would be happy/fine with this outcome. Because House Stark have a lot of value as an ally.
・However, if Daemon's daughter were to marry Cregan because she loves him - then he would be happy for his daughter...possibly tease her for it.
"Dragons are not meant for snow ..." he might say at the dinner table one night.
・Either way, Daemon would find it difficult to let his daughter go. Because of his pride and his possessive nature, he wouldn't like to see his kin be so far away from him.
・Which means ...he'd have a lot more trips to Winterfell. To House Stark's dismay.
・There’s a large chance - almost a certainty that Daemon would challenge Cregan in some way. Possibly through a couple of ways; combat, wits or intimidation. All of it is to test if Cregan is worthy of his daughter.
𝑹𝒉𝒂𝒆𝒏𝒚𝒓𝒂
・Unlike Daemon's reaction, Rhaenyra would be more diplomatic and thoughful in her response
・No matter how the marriage came about; it still solidifies the Stark's alliance. And therefore, she would fully support it.
・Rhaenyra would admire Cregan. For his honour, his strength and would entrust him to take care of her.
・She would be like the rest of the family - mourning the distance. The North is far, it is cold and very harsh.
・She would give some advice though:
"The North is not like the South. It is harsh and unforgiving. But if anyone can tame a Stark, it is you, my love."
𝑱𝒂𝒄𝒆
・When he first heard the news, he would nod and instantly be on board.
・Jace has already started looking at the world as a political landscape, and having his sister and dragon be linked to the North would greatly benefit both his mother and his reign.
・Since both Jace and Cregan have already bonded; they have a friendship due to the Pact of Ice and Fire. So, Jace would be the most supportive of the match.
・Jace would definitely laugh and clap Cregan on the back.
・He'd tease his sister, but also remind her to be careful.
・But Jace is very protective of his family and would no doubtedly threaten Cregan with brotherly protectiveness.
"If she is unhappy, Stark, no pact between our houses will protect you from my wrath."
𝑩𝒂𝒆𝒍𝒂
・You're her sister (doesn't matter if she and Rhaena are your full blood or not; they love you all the same.)
・She would have the strongest reaction. You and the Dragon Twins are very close.
・Baela's first words would be a shocked laugh and a witty, "My dear sister? In the North? Oh, what have they done to you?"
・If the match was political, she might dislike it, believing a dragon should not be 1. so far from family 2. in the cold
・HOWEVER, if her sister chose Cregan, Baela would support her 100% Much like her father...she might even threaten Cregan at the wedding, "Break her heart, Stark, and I will burn Winterfell to the ground."
・She would miss her sister terribly, I'd say they are both free-spirited, and the idea of being tied to a Stark's duty-bound world might feel like a loss.
・But in the end, Baela would support her. She’d promise to visit, and she’d make damn sure her sister never felt alone.
𝑹𝒉𝒂𝒆𝒏𝒂
・Lovely Rhaena, would be a bit more wistful.
・At the moment she struggles with finding her own place. So, seeing her sister married to a strong and honorable man, would give her conflicting emotions.
・Although she would do her best to give you a smile and hug, you would feel her drift from you a little
・Rhaena would envy you, while still wishing her sister happiness.
・And yet, she would be the person who sends you letters and updates you on all things while you're gone.
・She would gift you a figurine of a dragon and a wolf, to show that she holds no ill will and wishes you the happiest of lives.
𝑹𝒉𝒂𝒆𝒏𝒔
・Rhaenys would be the most practical
・Seeing this as a great alliance
・And would watch Daemon closely for how he reacts - because if he does not like it, then it will not go to plan
・Rhaenys might have even had a hand in bringing you two together
・As a person, she respect strong yet honorable men.
・Knowing you would be safe due to your dragon but also Cregan; that would make her see that the war can be won.
・She would sit you down and give you some harsh yet wise truths.
"You are not marrying the court. You are marrying the North. It will demand things of you that no Southern woman can teach you."
"Never let the wolves forget you are a dragon."

what i think about sometimes is that it’s lowkey crazy that it took 130 years for an eldest girl vs. younger boy succession conflict to break out into Actual War among the targaryens. i mean, in every single generation after the conqueror’s sons (in which there were no daughters at all) the eldest child of that generation had always been a daughter, but their inheritance was never formally scorned until rhaenys.
firstly, rhaena was aenys i’s eldest child, but she was quickly married off to her brother, not necessarily with the explicit intention to prevent a succession conflict, but prevention was a result; it made for a simple father-son succession with a built in queen consort.
of the next generation, there were 2 daughters elder than jaehaerys’ eldest male child aegon (who died as an infant and actually left a presumed female heir for a few years, daenerys!): aerea and rhaella. rhaella was sent away to be a septa, but aerea was even proclaimed heir! her claim against jaehaerys, like rhaenyra and daemon later, was a matter of king’s daughter vs. king’s brother. however, her inheritance was unofficially spurned, and with less publicity and outcry than rhaenys, because A) her father aegon “the uncrowned” was, as his nickname implies, never officially crowned king; and B) she was proclaimed heir by maegor, which left a bad taste in everyone’s mouth. but jaehaerys was indeed chosen over her because of the male primogeniture that put viserys over rhaenys! and rhaena, her mother, held a valid resentment over that.
and then finally after jaehaerys is crowned king and has ruled for a little while, he actually has an eldest female heir, daenaerys, for ~6 years—and her mother alyssanne specifically contended for her right to be heir! but then she dies, and jaehaerys gets an uncontroversial male heir, AND a uncontroversial male backup. but then both of those male heirs die, and like 4 of their daughters die/run away/are sent away in rapid succession (alyssa, daella, viserra, saera, maegelle) and suddenly there are TWO possible options for jaehaerys’ children, so he turns to his children’s children, and we all know how it goes.
TLDR: the dance of the dragons was not the first succession conflict based on gender. it is simply the only one that did not have a clean “wrap up” (sorry for such an insensitive turn of phrase), and thus turned into a war. targaryen women have been spurned since day 1, but it was never officially ordained until rhaenys, and never viciously fought over until rhaenyra.

Asoiaf AU where everything (almost) the same except all Valyrian women are tall. Like...all of them. Every single one of them are either six feet exactly or are Brienne Tarth sized. Nobody knows why. It's all blamed on Valyrian magic. Short king Aegon the Conqueror and his giant sister-wives. Visenya is the tallest. Rhaenys loved using his head as an elbow rest. Smol sons Aenys and Maegor with their tall mamas. Vhagar loves her tol Visenya <3 She was Confused and Very Concerned when Visenya (Aemond) not only had an eyepatch but had suddenly become Smol. King Jaehaerys and his six-foot-and-something wife good queen Alysanne and their five, six-foot-and-something daughters. You ever headcanon Vaegon to be the shortest of the brothers? Well now this guy is tiny when next to his sisters. Alyssa used to pick him up by the scruff of his neck like a kitten. Another reason he was happy to be at the Citadel. Viserys and Corlys love their tall wives and tall daughters <3 Laena were both menaces to society and Daemon and Harwin worshipped them. Jace and Lucerys followed their father(s) in the same way with Baela and Rhaena respectively. If she lived, Rhaenys daughter of Elia would've towered over her brothers Aegon and Jon, and would try to carry them everywhere as if they were her black cat Balerion. Daenerys had an early growth-spurt. Khal Drogo would've fallen in love with Dany even more like yes he has the most beautiful of tall wives he will conquer every kingdom for his tall and majestic khaleesi.

i love the way that a dragon's coloring is sometimes connected to its rider's family.
meraxes had silver scales and was ridden by rhaenys. rhaenys' son aenys had a dragon named quicksilver, and though we don't know her coloring, given her name and her pale white fire, it is probably silver as well. aenys' daughter alysanne had silverwing, described as a silvery dragon.
three generations of rulers who had silver she-dragons.
jaehaerys i rode vermithor, the bronze fury, and his son baelon the brave rode vhagar, who was described as bronze.
aemon and alyssa, brother and sister, both rode red dragons, caraxes and meleys, respectively.
rhaenyra has the yellow-gold syrax, and her son lucerys who rides arrax, described as having yellow fire and gold eyes and crest.
(could even connect this to aegon ii's sunfyre, who is golden and has pink membranes, matching to rhaenys' meleys and rhaena's morning, who is fully pink.)
helaena and daeron, also brother and sister, rode dreamfyre and tessarion, both blue dragons (although in different shades).
although we dont know his coloring, stormcloud, based on his name, was probably (dark) grey, which would match with the (light) grey color of seasmoke, who belonged to laenor, aegon iii's stepfather.
and of course, there is the connection between the conquerors' dragons balerion, meraxes and vhagar with dany's children drogon, viserion and rhaegal.

The Line Of Succession
….and how it proves Aegon II is the rightful heir.
Introduction
So I was listening to Fire and Blood and there’s a couple of interesting lines in its first few chapters regarding succession.
‘While many still debated whether Prince Maegor or his niece, Rhaena, should have precedence in the order of succession, it seemed beyond question that Aegon would follow his father, Aenys, just as Aenys would follow Aegon.’
Page 56, The Sons of the Dragon, Fire and Blood.
‘Only Grand Maester Gawen dared object. By all the laws of inheritance, laws that the Conqueror himself had affirmed after the conquest, the throne should pass to King Aenys’ son Aegon, the aged maester said.’
Page 74, The Sons of the Dragon, Fire and Blood.
The Initial Line of Succession
The initial succession is clear, and was indicated long before Aegon I affirmed the succession laws. It was when it was decided that Aegon, despite being the middle sibling, would be the main ruler. This set the precedent that male heirs come before female heirs, regardless of birth order.
Aegon’s heir was his eldest son Aenys, and in turn Aenys’ heir was his eldest son Aegon. But while Aenys was the elder of Aegon I’s two children, Aegon was not the eldest of Aenys’ children. Aenys’ first child was his daughter, Rhaena. Again, setting the precedent that sons inherit before elder daughters.
But here’s where it starts getting messy. Because Aegon didn’t inherit the throne; he was usurped by Maegor, Aenys’ younger brother. Interestingly, Maegor named his great niece Aerea his heir. Aerea was Aegon’s daughter, and would have been the rightful heir if Aegon had inherited the throne as the laws dictated.
Maegor, by the way, had very legitimate reasons for usurping. Thanks to Aenys’ insistence on marrying his son and daughter together, the Faith was up in arms and had declared that any children they produced were abominations. There was no way anyone in Westeros would accept Aegon as King, and being as he was only 16 and had no dragon, he had no way of taming the rebellions and riots breaking out across Westeros. Maegor, on the other hand, rode Balerion the Black Dread and wielded Blackfyre. He was easily able to squash the Faith’s armed branches.
None of Maegor’s wives produced any living children, so he had to name someone else his heir. Aenys had five surviving children: Rhaena, Aegon, Viserys, Jaehaerys and Alysanne. Aegon was killed in battle so he couldn’t be Maegor’s heir. Jaehaerys and Alysanne were hidden away and protected by their mother, so Maegor couldn’t name them either.
His options were Rhaena, Viserys or one of Rhaena and Aegon’s twin daughters (it’s unclear who the older twin was) Aerea and Rhaella. Despite Viserys being held as a hostage by Maegor, he chose Aerea. He still decided to follow succession laws even though he didn’t have to.
Jaehaerys And The Law
However, after Maegor’s death, his nephew Jaehaerys I became King. This was because Aerea was only six years old, and was a rather timid and shy child, so even her mother said she wasn’t a good fit for the throne. But this is going against the succession laws. And it wouldn’t be the last time Jaehaerys did that.
Jaehaerys’ first heir was his eldest son, Aemon. Queen Alysanne wanted their eldest child, Daenerys, to be the heir but Jaehaerys refused. This is the right choice, because the laws are clear that sons inherit before daughters, and not even the King can defy the laws.
Aemon died long before Jaehaerys, and his daughter Rhaenys should have been the next heir, but Jaehaerys instead chose his second son, Baelon. Many people blame this on sexism, but I think it’s more complicated than that. Rhaenys was married to Corlys Velaryon, an ambitious man. Her children weren’t Targaryens; they were Velaryons. Making her the heir meant the throne passing from House Targaryen to House Velaryon. Not to mention, Rhaenys was 16 with no experience while Baelon was 35 and had experience.
It’s unclear if this goes against the succession laws. The quote above regarding Maegor and Rhaena suggests the laws are unclear if a brother comes before a daughter. So it’s uncertain if Rhaenys should have inherited, because she was Aemon’s daughter, or if Baelon was the rightful heir as he was Jaehaerys’ son.
Viserys And The Dance
After Baelon’s death, the Great Council chose Viserys I as the next heir. It is unclear where the laws stand on this. As Baelon’s eldest son, he was unquestionably his heir but, given it was unclear if Baelon was the lawful heir, that may not mean anything. It does, however, set the precedent of male heirs over any female heirs.
Now, here’s where we come to Rhaenyra and Aegon II. There’s some ambiguity when it comes to a brother and a daughter of the king, but not if it’s between a son and a daughter.
There the laws are clear. Aegon II, as Viserys’ eldest trueborn son, is his rightful heir. Rhaenyra has no claim to the throne while Aegon II, Aemond, Daeron, Jaehaerys and Maelor are alive.
After looking over the succession prior to Viserys, we can establish that the Targaryens followed the law of sons before daughters, but there’s some question of if daughters come before uncles. Therefore, succession following his death could go two ways.
It’s either Aegon II, Jaehaerys, Maelor, Jaehaera, Aemond, Daeron, Rhaenyra, Aegon III, Viserys II, Helaena, Daemon or Aegon II, Jaehaerys, Maelor, Aemond, Daeron, Daemon, Aegon III, Viserys II, Daemon, Helaena, Jaehaera.
(As Jacaerys, Lucerys and Joffrey are bastards, they cannot claim the throne and are not in the line of succession).
Regardless, Rhaenyra is not the rightful heir and is actually quite far down the line of succession. She, not Aegon, is the usurper and unlike Maegor, she has no good reasons to usurp the throne.
TLDR: Targaryen Royal succession follows the law, there’s an area of ambiguity over whether a brother or a daughter inherits but no ambiguity regarding sons over daughters, and Rhaenyra is a usurper with no good reason for doing so, making her worse than Maegor in that regard.

What do you think of the theory Margaery Tyrell is descended from Rhaena of Pentos? I personally think it would be really cool and justice to Aemon's line and the Queen Who Never Was...but maybe that's just me.
I wouldn't mind it but it wouldn't affect me if she wasn't Margaery's ancestor either.
(However, I do think that she is... Baelor's name... Alerie's possible silver hair... Lynesse's resemblance to Daenerys... a lot points to it)
For me personally, the only thing that could do justice to Aemon & Rhaenys is making Betha Blackwood one of Rhaena's descendants.

Can you write about how daemon would treat his bastard child if he had one?
In the time when he was married Lady Rhea Royce, Daemon would have had many different ...romps... er time with women ... probably on their wedding night too.
I can see him having a bastard child by one of the ladies in court at Runestone. And then completely forgetting about them. Say it was a girl (because I feel like Daemon is such a girl dad, specifically because of Baela and Rhaena). I think the girl would want to know more about herself.
She would feel alienated at Runestone, because of Rhea Royce - I'm not sure how kind she is, so I feel like she would give the bastard's mother money and would kick them both out. Now the girl has a vendetta against Daemon:
You took away my mother's good position at a good House
I never had a father in my life
I was looked down on and taught to be ashamed of how I came into this world
𝑭𝒓𝒐𝒎 𝑫𝒂𝒆𝒎𝒐𝒏'𝒔 𝑽𝒊𝒆𝒘:
Would he think about the child from time to time? Possibly. I mean who knows what goes on in his head. But even with his own girls, he rarely has a relationship with them. Well, we do know that he wants Targaryen's to stay as rulers, he wants the House to last and be a brilliant legacy.
Therefore, Daemon could quietly acknowledge the girl, perhaps ensuring her well-being without making a public declaration. This would align with his penchant for defying tradition but also maintaining control over his narrative. And maintaining control is something that Daemon goddamn loves.
If the girl could serve a political purpose—such as forming an alliance or strengthening his position—Daemon might seek to legitimize her. However, this would depend on the context and his personal standing at the time.
If the girl exhibited Targaryen traits (e.g., silver hair, violet eyes, or dragonriding potential), Daemon might be inclined to acknowledge or even favor her, seeing her as a reflection of his own greatness. Conversely, if the girl did not outwardly show Valyrian features, Daemon’s reaction could be more dismissive, especially if legitimizing or supporting the child would harm his political standing.

Jace was so angry this episode. SO angry and frustrated with rhaenyra. "and what about those who sent [arryk]?". wanting revenge but thorn between being a loyal son and a boy with a dead brother. those looks he kept giving rhaenyra...... i loved the bit of parallelisms between jace and rhaena which are always so delicious to me: they want to do something tangible for the war but are relegated to a parentified role in the family. jace isn't allowed to patrol and rhaena isn't allowed to stay
