Ventuswill, Pancake Dragon

Slowly but surely I'm remembering every Rune Factory 4 character's favorite meal. Clorica loves apple pie, Arthur likes golden turnips, etc.

Venti loves pancakes. This is the cutest thing in the world to me.

How did she find out she loves them? Who made that dragon her first stack of pancakes?

Did all of the Guardians make her breakfast at some point? Does she use her big scary voice to order them? Who has the best recipe? (my guess is Dylas)

You know she can smell them cooking from across the castle - does she wag her tail when she hears you breaking out the mixing bowls?

Every morning, I crawl barefaced through a barn full of demon bees just to feed this dragon her holy flapjacks, and I'd crawl through miles more to get her seconds. Recipe for Pancakes in Rune Factory 4 Special:

please let me introduce one of my favourite games ever; rune factory four!!!

the short explanation is that it's half farming sim, half actual plot. the game is split into, in total, three acts: act one, the first half of the plot; act two, the finale; and act three, which has more plot too but the game is considered completed after act two.

the plot is, basically, that you are an acting prince/princess of a town while you try to get your memories back. the whole thing is a lot more complex than that but spoilers, and it made me cry a couple times. very emotional lol.

lots of different characters! each character has a unique personality and there are a few common tropes, like "rude and brash but secretly soft and shy", or "bright and happy to cover up dark feelings", or "flirts as a coping mechanism", among others.

it's partially voice acted! some recognisable names are matthew mercer (as leon), yuri lowenthal (as doug), and wendee lee (as lin fa/venti)!

different dynamics, especially found family! only two pairs of people are actually related, while every other family was formed some other way! it makes for some very heartwarming events. aside from familial dynamics, there's rivalries, a ghost and her familiar, roommates, etc.!

lots of unique dialogue! iirc you can get through over two in-game years without any repeating dialogue! each one has a lot to say and it all feels natural to the character.

it's super fun! it doesn't feel very repetitive, every area has its own secrets and special features to it, making everything fun to explore.

please. i've consumed every bit of fan content there is. i'm desperate for more.

I gave my RF4 protag trauma

I named her Frey in game, Freigh to bully her literally everywhere else. She and Lest are twins, and their mother was an Earthmate of the ancient Venti-saving lineage. Their father is Ethelberd's brother, and Ethelberd has no bitches because he's too busy lusting for power to lust after a woman

Their mom hid her identity as an Earthmate so she could be together with Ethelberd's brother, and once someone discloses her identity to Ethelberd he kills her, kills his brother, and raises the twins with an iron fist. Freigh discovers stuff about the rune sphere from a journal Ethelberd forgot to burn, Lest steals an airship for her, and she steals the rune sphere to give to Venti

So yeah that's what my Freigh's amnesia is hiding from her

I'm replaying RF4 (for the sixth time between 3DS version and Switch versions). It's been over two years since the last time I seriously played it, so it's been even longer since I've seen **SPOILERS AHEAD IF YOU HAVEN'T FINISHED** Frey waking Leon.

And holy shit somehow I forgot exactly how romantic it is? Although I won't deny that maybe I'm reading into it more than ever because of how hard I ship those two idiots. I admit I'm hella biased. But their chemistry is electric from the moment they meet, IMO. He's also the most grateful by far out of all the Guardians, thanking her multiple times and stressing how badly he owes her in the future. He's so happy that she's friends with Venti, then expresses that he'd love for her to entertain him as well. I'm sorry but his ability to so quickly transition to teasing her after a moment of sincere vulnerability will never stop making my heart pound.

And how adorable is it that **MAJOR Leon spoiler** when Leon proposes, he tells Frey he's loved her more than anyone in the world since the moment he MET her. Oh geez I'm gonna get obsessed with the soulmate headcanon again now (which would prob be a good thing cuz I mean I've never finished my fic about it, oops). Maybe this playthrough will inspire me to pick it up again. But damn hello despite all his teasing, he'd never use words like that if he didn't mean it.

anyway hi I'm still fucking sitting here thinking about them 'til I die XD
