#rewatching the show btw. y'know what that means!

Galactik Football season 3 rewatch, eps 7 - 9
Episode 7:
AGAIN they put the Shadows logo instead of the Pirates...
Well at least Mei is trying to be civil with D'jok and have a normal conversation
D'jok claiming he doesn't miss the Snow Kids >:(
I mean idk why they're tossing Mei up and down like that like, what are they celebrating XD
Aarch: We're far from ready for tonight's match, even against the Pirates!
DON'T SLANDER THEM LIKE THAT
Kinda rude they only show D'jok depressed over/ missing Mei. Surely he must miss the rest of the Snow Kids even if he won't show it? He literally ditched Mei in season 1 because Mice left, saying he's his only family apart from Maya, but now he just doesn't give a shit?
Did D'jok seriously just kiss Nikki-4 because he was reminded of Mei? Get this man some therapy
I mean idk why you're upset Mei you are literally dating Sinedd. Although I wouldn't blame her if she assumed D'jok was only doing it to get back at her
ngl I prefer Artegor's hype speeches haha
STEVENS IT'S MY BOY STEVENS!!!
What's with all the matches in season 3 having a goal being scored IN THE FIRST FEW SECONDS
GOOOOAL PIRAAAAAATES
Sorry I'm a Snow Kids supporter I swear
ooo they have Cyclops players in the Pirates team. The only chance for the Pirates to have a flux with them and be on the same level as the other teams, and they get the Cyclops. lol.
Wait, if the reason the Pirates couldn't use flux was because they're from different planets, then couldn't they use it now in this tournament? Or is it because they're all from Shiloh and it doesn't have a flux? I once read an idea somewhere that they didn't use flux because it can be tracked so they couldn't train with it, or maaaybe the Flux Society only let them play on the condition they don't use it, as their doings are a bit too opaque for their liking? Many questions.
I love Artie ditching his team to support Micro-Ice. Get you a hypeman like Artie, king shit <3
Corso kicking Artie out for potentially disturbing Sonny, they're so š and in the next shot Corso is watching the TV anyway with his hands crossed like a dad LOL
YESSSS MICRO-ICE GOT TO SCORE THE FIRST GOAL! THAT'S MY SON!!!
This is me btw
Why didn't Artie just go to the stadium from the start?
I love Rocket's penalty (free?) kicks so much <3 I'm sorry I don't actually know anything about football <333
Aaand Rocket's out. You guys should really have more subs. Or like, ANY subs
Gimme some Lun-Zeara action :( Y'know, just like the Rykers match, the match doesn't have to be a total wipeout to show that the winning team is good. I want the Wambas to at least put up more of a fight against Paradisia I mean, their flux is just a discount Breath anyway
I love the Pirate's acrobatic style of play, you just know these guys are parkour experts with all their running away from Technoid
Oooo that goal attempt was by red hair dude, nice to see someone else on the Pirates team strike. Hc he's twins with the goalkeeper, but where tf did their names in the wiki come from and why are they all so basic. Tbf they probably wouldn't reveal their real names anyway
Just realised there has been like zero development for Lun-Zia in terms of integrating with the team. She's from a completely different planet, they could have done so much with this but she just... fits in just like that? I know that later there's some stuff about her wanting to stay with the SK and learn the Breath but... it just feels weird to have none of that development when she actually joins the team
GO TIA GOOOO
Hahaha, that's not how physics works. The net is a loose material! At least in the previous seasons you could see it still spinning against the net and stretching it to its limits before falling
I love Callie accidentally showing her bias sometimes
Lun-Zia just doing cartwheels to celebrate, cute
DAN DAN DAAAAANNN... CYBORGS! Although the plot kind of treats them more like androids in the sense that they're not ārealā humans
> be me > girlfriend broke up with me by going to a different team > said ex girlfriend immediately gets with my nemesis > I leave for a new team, they're all hot girls and really strong players > turns out they're cyborgs > find out my dad is seriously injured and clinging on to life right after our first victory > they suspect the very coach I literally just started playing for > fml
Episode 8:
The Red Tigers?? When did they qualify???
Maddox why would you turn down the only chance of your team ever winning a match. Give them a flux player! Also, good feeling about the match?? Against the XENONS??? come on he can't be that naive
woah is that a new Technodroid theme song? Kinda slaps tbh
This match should be like 20-0 honestly
Fuck the Red Tigers <3 Warren, destroy them
SINCE WHEN DID THE RED TIGERS HAVE THE BREATH???
Warren is just as surprised as I am, although honestly I have no idea how this development didn't get out to the press sooner. This is also so thrown in, you'd think there'd be more discussion or reaction on there being two Akillian teams in this tournament??
oooo seeing Warren's teleporting from his perspective is pretty cool
I was about to rant that there's no way Warren would be troubled by the Red Tigers, flux or not, but ok fair he has the resonance because of Netherball. He only played in one match though, and all the Lightnings are good players, the team doesn't just suddenly suck because Warren's having a bad day
The Xenons have a Cyclops? Ok then, would've been too OP otherwise haha
Y'know I feel like they could have done more with this whole mixed flux thing, like found more creative ways for the team members to work together. So far, nothing would change if the tournament was still single flux, well except Lun-Zia
HOW THE FUCK DID THE TECHNODROIDS EVEN SCORE A GOAL? Keeper must have gotten bored and taken a nap, fair enough
I like Warren's dignified little clap with the audience haha, he's a true champion
Not the Red Tiger's captain pushing WARREN. This is why no one likes you guys
I'm not actually sure if that player is Woowamboo because I don't think they mention him by name, but I like to think they're bros! It's nice to see the new flux player get the spotlight and score a goal
Oooo teams we've never heard of before
I want to be at this beach party :( LOL even the Pirates are here
Rocket and Tia are so cute
Oh come on Lun-Zia you didn't really think you had a chance with Rocket? Wish they'd drop this drama and let Tia and Lun-Zia bond over something else. Last season Tia's arc also mostly revolved around Rocket so can we give her something else this time?
I like Zo-Leen just hanging with them now
STFU D'JOK WHAT DID MICRO-ICE EVER DO TO YOU??!!
Love how only some teams get the privilege of getting animated with casual clothes and not their football kits haha
Artie, after jumping an old guy that looks like Vega: we thought you were a woman!
NOT HELPING YOURSELF THERE DUDE
idk is Simbai really the only expert they can call? I mean I guess she might be renown in the field since she cured Aarch and Artegor of the Smog poisoning, but still. Aahh well since it's Sonny they probably don't have many options without alerting Technoid, that's gotta hurt
Episode 9:
Sinedd saying the Shadows will win bc they've always been a mixed flux team ā I mean I guess mixed species but not flux as Sinedd had to learn the Smog. But also I'm gonna take the chance to give the Shadows points for inclusivity because they seemed to have no problem mixing the team up even before this tournament
I wonder if there was a taboo against that due to the flux wars not being that long ago, I mean the teams are already like our national football teams so most would only want to play for their planet, but it's gotta be even weirder if you switch teams and there are still tensions between your people. So this mixed flux tournament could have been a big political moment if the show explored that side more.
Ok the shading on the characters is bothering me, was it always so dark in the previous seasons? They look like they're always standing infront of a bright light.
Mark I really wouldn't trash talk Luur if I were you
Go Lun Zia!!
Guys do you think Luur would be popular with the monsterfuckers if Galactik Football were a more well known show. I mean look at his figure- (someone throws a grenade through my window)
D'JOK WHAT THE HELL, FOULING WARREN?! FUCKING WARREN YOUR IDOL WHO YOU HAVE NO BEEF WITH CURRENTLY???!!!! why are they making him do stuff like this just to drive home that he's being an ass and will learn from it like, people can be nuanced. You don't have to have him lash out at literally everyone he interacts with.
Warren: Real shame that football has come to this.
Ok this supports my theory from the Netherball episodes that Warren is obsessed with football and the integrity of the sport
YYYYESSSSS GOOOOOAL TIA SLAAYYYY!!!! SHE STEPS UUUPPP!!!
wow that match ended quickly, considering how hyped up the Xenons were in the last season. I mean they played them in the finals! I wonder if season 3 split the matches like that so they wouldn't have to animate as much lol
oh I just realised D'jok is no longer number 9, he's 6. So his number upside down, heh, symbolism
Roasted by Warren, oof. This is the guy that got SINEDD to behave and work with D'jok in the All-Stars game last season, he commands that much respect from the young players but now D'jok is just being a jerk to him for no reason.
Artegor telling Aarch to try more warmth and less doom and gloom, that's hilarious
D'jok you're really gonna reveal that Sonny is your father to THE GUY SUSPECTED OF TRYING TO KILL HIM? WHO CAN EASILY KILL YOU?? AND INFRONT OF THIS TEAM YOU'VE ONLY KNOWN A FEW DAYS?
Vega's spy suit kinda slays tbh
Not Aarch realising he needs more of a social life outside of football š
āLast one back is a Cyclops!ā THRAN THAT'S RACIST
OH FOR FUCK'S SAKE. FIRST MEI/D'JOK, THEN TIA/ROCKET, NOW FREAKING AARCH/ADIM HAVE A LOVE TRIANGLE PLOT? I know it's a misunderstanding but like, what the hell. The romance drama is so bad in this season and I have a pretty low tolerance for that compared to other things like plotholes and whatever
How the fuck did Micro-Ice hear them talking from underwater
OK I like that it's Micro-Ice who gets suspicious of Paradisia with all the weird stuff going on, cute he goes up to Tia about it and she's immediately down for some investigation work despite going on about how amazing the place is a few minutes ago.

v-force thoughts, a year and a half later
so i've been doing a v-force rewatch with a friend (who hasn't seen it before). we're currently 20 episodes in, here's some thoughts
overall i'm actually enjoying it a lot more than i did on first watchthrough. like i was worried i'd only like it compared to g-rev but no i'm genuinely really liking it
animation still sucks ass though. notable quotes from me and my friend respectively include "half the characters look like they smoked the forever weed" and "i can see the polygons on those beys"
the vibes are really cozy at points. like literally the scenes of just the gang hanging out are SO GOOD, same goes for the saint shields too actually
on a related note, i already knew takao and daichi's arguing in g-rev was unpleasant to watch, but rewatching v-force has REALLY cemented that opinion. like when petty arguments happen in v-force it just feels like that, petty arguments yaknow.
kai is extremely autism and i need to go take screenshots of him sometime. i mean i already remembered him being like that in this season but half the time he's onscreen i feel like i'm going to explode (in a good way)
here's a really good kai moment btw.
also there's this really odd and kinda out of character moment with max when he first shows up. and idk i just felt like pointing it out. at the very least it's another point against the way people commonly portray him ig
lastly, i'm still not quite able to put into words what it is that makes The Yuya Incident work so well despite everything but i think what makes psykick just NOT work is. well okay for starters they are obviously not intimidating (though that does kind of work with the early stuff) but they also just... do not have much of a presence, y'know? like in s1 and g-rev whenever volkov is on screen there's a goddamn AURA to that guy. psykick makes me feel nothing.
speaking of volkov yeah they really forget s1 exists. it's so funny how takao's like "wow hiromi's ideas are so ridiculous" even though the idea of an international crime ring isn't that far-fetched considering borg.

Btw yesterday I was talking w my dad over dinner and he was like "y'know what you should download? Prison Break" and then added "the only reason I'd rewatch that show is because T-bag" which is so real like fucking same brother but I instantly turned him down because like we agreed the moment we start watching prison break it'll consume our lives. You don't want to do Anything but watch PB. And I cannot go full insane for Teddy again y'all already are suffering from the sequels of a show I watched 3 years ago and by all means I'd have forgotten by now but haven't. Like imagine. No one would survive.

(MCC 24 spoilers in tags sorta)
#I have a headache rn so my excitement is kinda curbed but Whoo! Second place!!#I haven't watched all of them (not from the start and I think I've missed a handful too) but usually for MCC I've been watching Ranboo's#POV consistently. First POV I watched so it's the one I've stuck with. This time though I decided to watch TommyInnit's POV cuz there were#more people on that team that I was familiar with (3 vs 2). So the plan was: Ranboo pre-show (but I woke up kinda late and it wasn't as#involved as previous times) & on side monitor + Tommy main POV + Wilbur during Ace Race. I did stick with that for the most part and I#unmuted Wilbur's stream during that event but for everything else I didn't really switch back to Ranboo cuz I got really invested in the#orange team :) Really liked the vibe! Way more team communication and explanation of game mechanics than I'm used to seeing so it was a lot#easier to follow and felt a lot more organized and chill. I've been meaning to watch Tommy's POV for a while now but I haven't been in the#habit of rewatching alt POVs of streams I've already seen (especially MCC cuz I know how it ends y'know?). Might keep watching Tommy's POV#from now on though cuz I really like the structure of his streams and how he creates content in general (I can and have go(ne) on a long#tangent about that btw) but I had a lot more fun watching this time than most other times so I think I might do his POV for live and Wilbur#/Ranboo to watch after the fact especially if they keep teaming together. I also find they get the most clips showing up on tiktok for me#so even if I miss what happens live I'm almost guaranteed to see a condensed version of it later lol.#Anyways congrats to the winning team and this month's event was fun to watch! This was mostly just a personal post cuz I wanted to process#my thoughts I'm gonna go get some water or something :3 Would love to play in an event like this myself it seems so fun but I am a very#stressed person with chronic tech issues lol so I don't think it'd work out so well x(#ghostprince posts#MCC#MCC24#Comepletely forgot to add the tags clarifying that I like Ranboo's POV I just find it to be a bit loud and hectic sometimes and harder to#follow live specifically so it's more enjoyable to listen to later I guess? Idk this doesn't really sound better tbh#Whhhhhhh blogging time over gonna go back to sleep and hibernate until the 25th

LOVE your wordgirl designs! I love the show and might even rewatch a few episodes for old timesās sake but the art style doesnāt really vibe with what Iāve come to love and while youāve done a good job revamping the characters themselves, Worldgirlās COSTUME looks FANTASTIC! Especially love the changes to her helmet, looks sorta similar to Thor with the wing things or to Hiro Hamada with the visor and wing combo. Point is, itās reminiscent of other superheroes rather than being like. A bike helmet. Little details too that give it a more sort ofā¦ like it feels like the way people design comic book characters nowadays with all the cool little added details rather than being just. A leotard like Sunday newspaper Superman wore. Also Tobey looking dapper as ever. And your encanto art rules to soooo I guess Iāll be sticking around?
Also thanks for starting the pull of a wordgirl multipshipping hell from which there is no escape. Itās gonna be a fun one
Yesyes wordgirl actually holds up really well to this day! Aside from maybe the vocabulary learning bits lol, but only because we're older now y'know? So yeah I definitely recommend rewatching some episodes or at least some clips!! It's very nostalgic and fun :>
And tysm for the design compliments for how I draw wordgirl characters haha I really like making simplistic character looks a bit more polished and memorable when I draw them, I'm glad they're being received so well!! Honestly, I really was a bit at a loss with Becky's hero outfit for a while, I was like tf am I gonna do with this dodgeball looking helmet?? It has no distinct features! It looks...fine in the cartoon imo but when making fanart idk it doesn't quite work for me
Also ty for deciding to stick around it means a lot! btw enjoy the wordgirl multishipper struggle lol

Rank all the disguises that Megavolt and Quackerjack wore in āStressed To Killā from best to worst in your opinion. BTW, thanks for reblogging my fanart of those 2 as Dr. Heebie and Dr. Jeebie.
Okay, just rewatched this, and I'm gonna go worst to best because that order's more fun. I'm also expanding the parameters - it's every outfit they wore. I'm gonna do a separate list first for the ones we were told about but never saw, and that I wish we had seen.
THE UNSEEN, WORST TO BEST:
4. A cowboy and an Indigenous American
The 90s were, uh, a weird time when it came to cultural appropriation. I'm not too mad we didn't see these getups, especially since Megavolt in a feather headdress already happened in "Comic Book Capers" (which is how I know it was him). Oh, but he was also in a cowboy hat in the giant magnet episode. Neither of these was anything special. Except, y'know, the headdress was awkward because 90's appropriation
3. Two pumpkins
Kinda vanilla, and probably identical, but let's face it: this would've been hecka cute. Imagine the slapstick potential! One of them probably trips and falls over and rolls for like a BLOCK!
2. Pirates
If Megs is wearing the pirate outfit from Darkwing Doubloon, then I definitely wanna see that again, because that was a nice outfit. Quackerjack, of course, wears THE EXACT SAME THING HE ALWAYS DOES in that episode, but he's described as being one of two pirates, which means this time, he ACTUALLY WORE THE COSTUME, so please, give me the forbidden Pirate Quackerjack!
1. Circus clowns
They already are clowns. Let me see them wear their true colors of clownitude. Also think of all the colors! The polka dots! There's so much you can do with this aesthetic, and it'd work so well for them since they usually wear bright colors to begin with!
THE SEEN, WORST TO BEST:
6. Firefighter Quackerjack
This one barely counts, but what the hey. Thing is, he went to all the trouble of putting on the hat and getting a tiny fire truck in order to light that fire, so why didn't he go for the coat as well? Rest of the uniform? I want to see him commit a heist as a firefighter and have an axe strapped to his belt that he attempts to use in close combat but fumbles and drops harmlessly on his foot. Also, Megavolt didn't get a corresponding outfit, so booooo.
5. Pharaohs
These guys have been wearing crazy costumes all dang week and then all of a sudden, they show up wearing just pharaoh headdresses and no other part of the costume? I mean, I guess that avoids another weird 90s cultural appropriation incident, but it's also so vanilla. C'mon, you guys can step it up. Now, Iāve just been reminded that this is because they literally just stole the headdresses from the museum and decided to wear their loot home, as opposed to coming up with an actual disguise, so this can get a pass to some extent. Still, you know these boys wouldāve loved to wear EVEN MORE historical costuming from that same museum.
4. The community service jumpsuits
No, not a disguise, but I think they look kinda neat in these. I like the running gag that Quackerjack never takes off his jester hat no matter what else he wears. I think the Paddywhack episode is the only time we ever see him without the hat, and that's for maybe three seconds as he's sucked into the vortex. That hat is part of him.
3. Their normal outfits
Okay, I just wanna talk about how great their designs are, okay? The bright colors. The fact that they're pretty much palette opposites - QJ is red and purple while Megavolt is yellow and blue with a little orange. The way their aesthetics are completely different, but also totally complement one another. You see them committing crimes together and you're like "They just GO. They MATCH."
2. Doctors Heebie and Jeebie
Absolutely classic Quackerjack-and-Megavolt disguises. Lab coats, masks, the immersive experience. Princess, you've pointed out that they actually look more like dentists, and that's CORRECT, and it's even funnier that way because they still get away with it. The longer that scene goes on and the more Darkwing just DOESN'T REALIZE who's in front of him, despite, y'know, the JESTER HAT, the funnier it gets. I'm always a sucker for when Paper Thin Disguises inexplicably work. It's peak humor.
1. Shakespearean actors
Okay, but this had to take the cake! Quackerjack in old English clothing with a waistcoat? Snappy! MEGAVOLT IN A DRESS, THOUGH? PERFECTION. I also love that his complaint is that by that point, it's getting "boring." He never has any aversion to the dress due to femininity, and does a cute little curtsy with it later in the scene - no, his problem is just that it's the fourth costume in the same night. But it's a very beautiful dress, and it suits him quite well. I like that he's comfortable enough with his masculinity to rock it.
But, uh...c'mere. Got a secret for you. Okay, you ready? So Quackerjack's outfit is mostly earth tones with a green vest. Megavolt's is a purple gown with corset lacing in front. They're...they're Eugene and Rapunzel from Tangled. This was years before Tangled was even a concept but SOMEHOW they are wearing a pretty convincing Tangled cosplay. Food for thought.

Rewatching Ben through the years and this hits different today š„ŗ
"You are my son."
"Oh, what does that mean, what does being a Mitchell son actually mean?"
"Do we have to go through all this again, eh?"
"Course we don't, cause we're Mitchells ain't we? Come on, hit me then... that's what Mitchell dads do innit? Y'know, throw their son across the room, smash the odd bottle over them."
"Listen, I've never lifted a finger to you -"
"You hit me last year."
"Alright, once!"
"Oh yeah, well y'know maybe the other times you were too drunk to remember... All my life, all I've tried to do is make you happy. Y'know I've stopped the things I love, because of you. I don't dance anymore, I don't listen to the music I like, I don't watch old movies. Cause I'm a Mitchell."
"Well you are a Mitchell ain't ya!"
"All I ever try and do is be the son that you want. And although I'm not him, and I'm a big... big disappointment... I keep on trying. Cause somewhere in my stupid head I think that maybe you care. I hope that just once, just once, you care... but I've realised, you don't care about anyone."
"I don't know what happened to you inside that prison, but half the time I don't recognise you anymore."
"D'you wanna know what happened to me? Do ya? What happened to me inside? You wanna know what those boys did to me?"
Oh and btw that scene is where the "he's just some bloke that got your mum pregnant" line to Callum originated!! Ben says the exact same thing to Phil. Idk who wrote the Ben/Callum scene but they obviously know the show well š
omg wow!!! iām so proud of how far heās come from there omg š„ŗš„ŗš„ŗ

Hi! (feel totally free to ignore btw!) I used to looove starkid back in avpm days, but I haven't seen anything since Starship. You posting abt Black Friday is making me want to go back tho! What starkid/tcb shows should watch vs skip? I know twisted, saf, (&apparently bf) are great - which of the others have you seen & liked? Thanks! āŗļø
twisted, saf, and bf are all TOP TIER and you absolutely should watch them
the guy who didn't like musicals is, like, technically kind of a prequel to black friday? they take place in the same town and there's a handful of overlapping characters (and since black friday is generally a lot. heavier in tone, a lot of the Jokes that get big audience reactions are just references to tgwdlm). you don't HAVE to watch tgwdlm to enjoy bf, and in all honesty I really didn't like tgwdlm very much (it's just not my kind of humor personally and the ratio of songs I liked to songs I didn't is just a little too low, y'know?). you'd be missing out on a LITTLE bit of context my watching bf without watching tgwdlm but not even really that much, they do a good job of re-explaining all the plot-relevant details and the relationship between the shows isn't quite as straightforward as prequel/sequel. so it's up to you whether you'd think it's worth it to watch tgwdlm in addition to bf
you mentioned starship which I LOVE. worth rewatching. starship and holy musical b@man are maybe the most underrated shows in the company's oeuvre. I love hmb so much it makes me insane. I'm so sick of superhero media that takes itself really seriously lmao the concept is inherently absurd and ridiculous, and hmb really leans into the idea that, like, this is all dumb as hell. the characters don't THINK it's dumb as hell, and they DO take it super seriously, but it's still very much dumb as hell
trail to oregon has a lot more potty humor than I usually like, but I absolutely fucking love it. tto makes me so happy makes me go š„°š„° turn my brain off and watch ppl be dumb abt The Frontier. (in case you couldn't tell, most of starkid's shows revolve around people being extremely stupid and they're soooooo good at it.) trail to oregon also has a choose-your-own-ending thing which is fun and because I'm me I have extremely strong opinions about which one is the best lmao but I won't tell you which bc I don't want to influence your decision-making
AND THEN THERE'S FIREBRINGER. the perfect lauren lopez vehicle. dumb idiot cavepeople my BELOVED. if you were On The Internet in 2017 you probably saw clips of the song 'work to do,' the "I don't really wanna do the work today" song. 'twas a big meme. it's very very good. and the music?? my g-d. heavenly harmonies. firebringer is just... fun. it's fun and very bisexual, if that means anything to you
don't watch me and my dick. it's good for corey dorris having a solo and bad/uncomfy for almost everything else. most people dislike ani; I have mixed feelings abt it. I'm not THAT into star wars so a lot of the references were lost on me, and a lot of people really didn't like that they don't sing (they did it in rep with tto, and tto took most of their best singers). that's not to say there's no music-- there is!! but the band does it all, movie soundtrack-style, instead of the characters. a lot of the songs are really good, though!! and clark's voice is soooooo š¤©. but it's, y'know, stylistically a very different experience than most other starkid musicals, and it's steeped in the granular details of star wars canon far more than the other parody musicals are in their source material. and in all honesty I haven't really watched much tcb beyond saf so I don't feel qualified to rec any other tcb stuff, though iirc people seem to really love solve-it squad
thank you for allowing me to ramble abt starkid lmfao :3

S1 Rewatch: Maddi's Take [1.04]
Favorite scene
oh GOSH y'know I think it has to be the Christmas tree scene! It is the cute!! SNOW! RL!
Favorite performance
Zay B baby performing Santa Tell Me bc I KNOW this would be amazing! and the fact that everyone can join in! and then at the end Lucas leaves but most of the other techies are clapping along! its a bop fam, in an episode filled with jingle bell bopsĀ
Favorite character (within context of the episode)
It is quite an equal episode for character coverage but I think I have to go Maya? She shows real depth when she sings her mumās favourite song even though her mum couldnāt make it in time.
Favorite line(s)
āOh, yeah. Right. For sure. YeahāĀ āRiley Matthews (real smooth one, riles)
āIsadora:Ā What? You act like youāve never seen another human being before. You know Riley. What, do you need me to introduce you two?
Lucas:Ā No, yeah, I know her. I just didnātā¦ realize she would be joining us.ā - this also just bc you know i am a sucker for this trio
An underrated moment
Charlie approaching Zay and nudging his shoulderā¦.i mean my hearrtļæ½ļæ½my zarlie loving heart..it beats, but also this whole bit where they go to the diner and invite Farkle that is wholesome
First impression vs your reread impression
I know in my first read I was getting obsessed with Lucas, Isa and Riley and guess what? that still stands! But I also find myself noticing every Dasher and every Zarlie moment this time as well as appreciating Lucas and Rileyās actions on a deeper level.
sorry I am bad at formatting these btw and sorry it took so long!!
--
maddi donāt you ever apologize. youāre participating and thatās what we stan!! yeah riley is a true genius with words isnāt she... she has quite a few lines this ep where its just like oh honey...Ā sure do love you..... but yeah that exchange when she first just swoops into their table is hilarious and i just love how like... genuinely i feel like riley is the first person to truly just Challenge lucasās... way of existing and she does so not in an aggressive way (which i dont think would be effective) but just in... you know, being her. but it has just that SLIGHT edge of scrappy to it with rileyās little head tilts and pointed smiles that itās like... lucas youāre a goner. run!!! RUN!!!!
but yeah charlie... yāall we may not have been apt to it the first go round but charlie is really laying on the intricate rituals here. heās like haha zay let me just side with you on this seasick crocodile thing so that it feels like weāre on the same team for something and i get to drift closer to you a lil bit to separate myself from farkle but like nbd... let me awkwardly nudge your shoulder in congratulations after a good performance even though iām not really a nudge guy but i have to nudge you because otherwise i feel like i might lose my mind but i might also lose my mind from touching you anyway haha.... ha.
#S1 reread#S2 countdown#submission#charlie...... honey#1x04#gonna gear up on my 105 reread in a hot min!

About character bingo, Loki and Bucky?
I'm going to assume this is MCU Loki and Bucky we're talking about, but feel free to send another ask if you have another version of them in mind.
"I'll write a small word vomit thing about them." *Proceeds to write four paragraphs.*
Bucky showed up in the MCU first, so he's first here, too. Bucky Buchanan Barnes, huh? I'll admit, in the first Captain America movie, I didn't really have much in way of opinion about him. I was in the 'they sure do exist' camp. Didn't give him much thought.
That did change, however, when he returned as the Winter Soldier. He was terrifying in Civil war, ngl. But I also thought he was kinda cool. After that, sitting on the movies for a while and rewatching them a few times, I grew a far stronger appreciation for the character. (Which was probably due to how young I was when I watched the movies initially, but let's ignore that-) Which makes the awful way the fandom and current writers treat and mischaracterize him even worse, tbh. But we're not talking about that right now-
Unrelated: Bucky gives me gender envy like mad. (I'm Boyflux, btw.)
I want to wrap him in a big fuzzy blanket and give him a hot cocoa, dude deserves some rest and tlc.
Comparing how I feel about Bucky to Loki is super unfair... to Bucky. Though honestly, it would be unfair to all Marvel characters, since Loki is my favorite. (*Insert people rolling their eyes because me liking a character that's 'popular' makes me annoying/cringe, apparently.*)
Fun fact: Loki is actually one of the first Marvel characters I was ever introduced to. Though, granted, it wasn't MCU Loki. I'm constantly rotating them in my mind like Banana.mp4 (Rotat e). I can also relate to them on a scarily close level. Like jeez, my older sibling was kicked out right before I learned about my bloody heritage from my father, too, da fuq?
Loki in the MCU is probably the most mis-characterized, and the most unabashedly hated and poorly handled character by the writers in the later phases. Which sucks, because his attempts to prove himself and feeling unworthy are exactly what made them so interesting. But it seems the writers like to mis-characterize him as being arrogant and self-centred, when they're actually the opposite in every movie before Ragnarok. *sigh*
He deserves a break, too, tbh. They both need some tlc stat.
...Y'know, they really missed an opportunity by never letting these two meet. But then again, the MCU has/had a problem with casual interactions. (I mean, Thor and Natasha barely interacted in any of the movies despite being on the same team.)

Nirvana in Fire Episode 4 Reaction
I thought this would be a fast episode to recap/review, but no. It wasnāt. A LOT HAPPENS. Most importantly? This is the episode where we really, finally get introduced to Jing (and, in a way, to Lin Shu himself) and that whole scene is so important!!! Also thereās the subplot with the slave kids, and the threat of Ni Huangās impending marriage, and now thereās a subplot TO that subplot about her being in danger from someone, PLUS we FINALLY learn what Lin Shu is ultimately trying to do here in the court, and aaaaaahh. So much goodness! I got a little misty-eyed, even? Thatās how good it is. It doesnāt bode well for my poor emotions in later episodes. Will this show ever have a filler episode that I can summarize my reaction to in, like, a single paragraph??? Iām guessing not. But Iām okay with that because Iām enjoying it so much.
Back to this episode, episode 4, we start where we left off with the fight from last episode, with Jing Rui getting flung across a table by Baili Qi. The emperor intervenes and stops the fight before anyone (meaning poor Jing Rui) gets seriously hurt, but in the pause afterwards he notices that Chang Su (who DID manage to swallow all that tangerine without dying, I am very proud of him) is leaning over whispering in a smiling Ni Huangās ear. So of course the Emperor demands to be let in on whatever secret is being told.
And how cute is the sight of Mei Chang Su and Ni Huang whispering mischievously to each other at the EMPERORāS OWN TABLE, so to speak? The answer, my friend, is pretty dang cute. They look like theyāve reverted to being a couple of children together. Ni Huangās so comfortable and close with him, it reeeeeally feels like she instinctively recognizes him and itās like her brain is just waiting to catch up with her heart which is already making her treat him like a lifelong friend, even if she doesnāt consciously realize it yet. Then again, she seemed already so intrigued from the first instant she saw him ā¦ I really want to know what he was telling her; I donāt think he was telling her the stratagem he was about to put into play, because he did seem surprised when she caught on so fast, but he could have been acting so idk. Maybe he just told her to follow his lead. Or maybe he literally just told her what he tells the Emperor he was saying: that Baili Qi is a strong but badly-trained warrior who could undoubtedly be defeated by children.
(Chang Su acts embarrassed as he admits this but COME ON. He is LOVING it.)
The whole room gasps. This is a massive insult delivered by an honored guest in front of the most important people in the kingdom. They are electrified with horror, shocked amusement, and intrigue (and, in the case of Northern Yanās group: outrage).
And Mei Chang Su, THIS TROLL, puts on his meek innocent face and is all āoh, no, I meant no offense at all, we are all friends here, my bad, it is just that I make mistakes like everyone else, I should really learn to think before I speak ohohohohoā
But the ambassador from Northern Yan is having none of it and demands Mei Chang Su produce some children to be slaughtered by Baili Qi right. Now.
(I feel insulted on poor Jing Ruiās behalf that his buddy Chang Su has basically just said to THE EMPEROR that a child could fight better than he just did, and he does actually look a little miffed here, but only briefly. He is a better person than me, this noble sword-boy.)
(Btw, this scene is a good example of how Chang Su has the SWEETEST smile when he wants to. It is an excellent distraction from his clever manipulation, which I can attest to personally because it distracts ME from paying close attention to what heās saying, so Iām assuming it worked on everyone else in that hall, too.)
Chang Su says ok, but also heād have to train the kids, PLUS the kids would have to be previously untrained, and Ni Huang catches on almost immediately and starts helping, the end result being that the two of them work together fiendishly well, dancing back and forth with their varying reasons for why the children they pick for the bout HAVE to be taken from the slaves in the palaceāy'know, one of which is Ting Sheng from last episode. Itās about now that I started laughing because āoh no he isn'ttttā but yes: he totally is. Mei Chang Su is already setting things in motion to save the kid Prince Jing mysteriously cares about. Brazenly, in front of the Emperor and the entire court. With Meng surely sweating bullets the whole time as he stands beside the Emperor.
Also thereās a great moment when Chang Su pretends to be VERY contrite about suggesting some children could whip Baili Qi, almost to the point of being flustered, and he stammers out some thing about how it wouldnāt be fair to use kids already trained in martial arts, as that would be an unfair advantage to them, and the Northern Yan crew look like theyāre going to have a fit and the rest of the hall busts up laughing (except for the Crown Prince who looks upset by this further insult to the foreign group, and for Prince Yu who just smirks like heās impressed) and in the meantime Mei Chang Su stands there in the midst of this hurricane he created looking wholly innocent and clueless and ugh I LOVE HIM. HEāS THE WORST.
So Chang Su, with the help of his secret ally Meng, manages not only to get the Emperorās permission to take three kids from the slave ranks to train them, but also gets permission to train them back in his own house, and is given five days to do so. He also hints that the kids might deserve, oh I donāt know, some kind of reward after they defeat Baili Qi? I SEE YOU, LIN SHU. I SEE WHAT YOUāRE DOING.
Meng picks three kids at random, and Ting Sheng somehow happens to be one of them. Wow, what a craaaaaazy coincidence!
Later, Jing Rui voices concern about the kidsā chances because he is, y'know, sane, but Chang Su is unmoved. He says he is going to have them use a Towering Phantom technique? Sounds impressive. Jing Rui knows of this technique but has never seen it. Chang Su asks does Jing Rui not trust him? Jing Rui promptly replies that he DOES trust his friend, who is so clever and knows so much. Itās painful to hear him say so. Then Yu Jin chimes in by saying that everything must be ok because Chang Su clearly has a plan: if the kids defeat Baili Qi in this mock combat round, Baili Qi wonāt have the gall to then say he has the right to fight Ni Huang. Thatās a good point. Iām very impressed that Lin Shu is seemingly managing to kill two birds with one stone, here. Very good.
(Speaking of Yu Jin, slight sidetrack meta time: Iām writing this as I rewatch after making it to episode 16 and then stopping, so I have seen more of these boys than just four episodesā worth. And this is one of the earliest telling moments Iāve noticed where Yu Jin seems to see Chang Suās stratagems clearly. He doesnāt see any long term goal in them, but heās good at seeing whatās going on in the moment. It seems to me like the reason why he notices more about what Su is doing when compared to Jing Rui, is that Jing Rui takes Chang Suās friendship more for granted. They are already friends at the beginning of the show; Yu Jin begins the show eager to meet this legendarily cool pugilist leader, so heās a bit more removed from Chang Su the person and more calibrated to view Chang Su the persona. Chang Su is just lucky that Yu Jin is such a happy puppy of a person who wants to see the best in people and so isnāt a suspicious sort, otherwise he would definitely have an edge when it comes to figuring out that Chang Su is such a devious plotter and has some dangerous long-term goals; he is too innocent, alas. I also get the feeling that Jing Rui is at a disadvantage here even though he is the more mature of the two simply because heās grown up surrounded by not one but TWO doting families so heās just? Used to being loved? (And yet still hasnāt gotten spoiled, bless him.) But being accustomed to being the center of attention/having a positive network around him blinds him to Chang Suās machinations. Anyway. Yu Jin and Jing Rui are the Most Precious souls in this entire show so far and must be protected at all costs. I dread whatās undoubtedly coming for them. The show wouldnāt make them this Good for no reason.)
Meanwhile, best of friends Meng is assuring the Emperor that it is very possible that Su Zhe might know a secret technique that would enable children to defeat Baili Qi, and also says even if the kids lose itās a win-win for the Emperor. He also says even if the kids lose, it āwonāt be any worse than it is now.ā The Emperor somehow finds that reassuring? I feel like insulting a rival nationās champion, then losing to him in a fight brought about by the insult IS a situation that would be made worse by the loss, but maybe he figures heāll just punish this random impertinent strategist if things go wrong and so therefore he, the Emperor, is fine no matter what. Whatever.
The next scene starts pretty randomly with one of the less important concubines crying because she has to light candles at the shrine for a dead Empress. Is dead Empress the current Emperorās mother? I feel like it must be. Anyway she must have been an awful person if her ghost can scare this woman that badly.
Enter Jingmum!! Jingmum (not her name, alas, but Iām using it for clarification sake) offers to accompany and help her fellow woman because she is a good and wonderful person. How much influence did she have over Jing as he grew up? Because he seems like a fantastic guy, but as a concubine of the Emperor I donāt know how much freedom to just be a mom to her kid this woman had. I want to see what their relationship is like.
Oh, and the current Empress is the one punishing the sad concubine for something trivial like bad handwriting or somesuch. This is an interesting detail because until now the Emperorās favourite concubine, Crown Princeās mom, seemed much more obviously hateful. This shows the Empress is also definitely not a good person. It reminds me of how Yu scolded those sparring soldiers so harshly back in episode 2. Guess thatās where he learned it from?
āYour arms must be sore,ā a way too kind and compassionate Jingmum says to her fellow concubine, after the latter lights some candles. If her arms are sore, she needs to do some lifting, my gosh. Then again, I suppose she doesnāt have anything to do in her life to strengthen her arms, but still. Thatās pathetic. Jingmum even massages her arm as they walk out of the shrine together??? What a saint. She says she was trained in medicine before, so I guess that explains things. Have her take a look at Lin Shu, pls. I want him alive longer than two years ok? Make it so.
Thunder sounds and Iām immediately like āSAVE THE BEAUTIFUL DRESSESā but the two women have the same thought apparently and scurry under cover, much to my relief.
BUT THEN. Their run for cover puts them right outside a secluded room where they can overhear a conversation between some old woman and the most evil-looking handmaid Iāve ever seen in my entire life. This actress flat-out sneers every word, and itās kind of funny. But the conversation itself isnāt funny: theyāre talking about some kind of drug that āthe Empress Dowager used on Princess Supreme Li Yang back then.ā Um. WHAT?! Someone wants to use this drug on someone in secret, and these women are making the necessary arrangements.
Jingmum and weak-arm concubine hurry away before they are spotted, but that sounded REALLY SKEEVY. My suspicions are confirmed when weak-arm concubine, in major distress, tells Jingmum that this is an emergency: that drug they were talking about is basically a date rape drug that was used in the past on the Princess Supreme. Who, I am pretty sure, is one of Jing Ruiās moms???? (Ten episodes later I know that yes, this is Jing Ruiās mom.) WHAT IS HAPPENING. Nothing good, that is sure. Weak-arm asks Jingmum for advice, and Jingmum tells her to keep silent about what she heard. Itās better to play it safe in the palace and not meddle in secrets, she says. This is exactly he opposite of what Jing would say, I have no doubt. So he canāt have spent THAT much time with his mom: enough to inherit her goodness but not her subtlety, I think.
Back at Snow Cottage we are treated to a long montage of the slave children waving swords around with varying expressions of seriousness on their round faces. Fei Liu is doing all the work to train them, and I imagine heās a brutal but effective teacher. Lin Shu is sitting nearby paying nearly zero attention; he trusts Fei Liu to get the job done. āMake them faster so I can be sure to win,ā he instructs, and Iām pretty sure thatās all he needs to say for Fei Liu to do everything in his power to make these kids the fastest children under the sun. I am curious about why he is so very, very devoted to Lin Shu. Theyāre such an odd duo but so great together.
Lin Shu does start paying attention, however, when Ni Huang shows up for an unannounced visit. Surprise! As always, he looks momentarily stricken to see her, and I wonder if she realizes she frightens him, she seems like sheās always watching him very closely. She looks like she is pleased to have surprised him, but he covers his reaction almost instantly. Ni Huang is here to see the childrenās formation they are practicing for herself, and she is very perceptive in her criticism of it as she walks alone with Chang Su afterwards. I love it whenever Ni Huang shows off how smart she is AND how skilled she is in warfare. Sheās perfect. She asks if he maybe has something further planned, and he doesnāt answer, like he doesnāt trust himself to reply. Every time she shows how clever she is itās like you can see that hidden Lin Shu in him fall in love with her all over again and itās the WORST. Sidenote: Hu Ge has done amazing work in this show so far, but one of my favourite aspects of his portrayal is that you can so clearly tell when shades of Lin Shu are coming outāwhich is remarkable, when you think about it, because I still havenāt been introduced to Lin Shu. I still donāt know who he IS. And yet I do, because Hu Ge has such a clear understanding of who he is, heās clueing me in even without that formal introduction, even without convenient flashbacks, or without ever talking about who he was before. Heās wonderful.
Chang Su finally promises he will do all he can to help Ni Huang out of her predicament (one of the few promises he makes that I 100% believe, lol), and she looks thoughtful.
āFor some reason,ā she confesses as she looks out at the garden, āI actually trust you.ā
Lin Shuās only reaction is a blink that covers a flinch, and itās like you can see how glad her confession makes him before reality catches up to his relief and turns it all to pain, and then he just. Walks away. No bow, no farewell, nothing. Because he canāt handle this, and neither can I. Ni Huang watches him go, looking strangely triumphant. Point to Ni Huang, I think. She is DEFINITELY on to him.
That night, Jingmum stays up very late sewing some pouches. Sheās planning something. The next day (presumably), the delightful grandmother is back!!!! Iām desperately hoping that this time she doesnāt break my heart. Right now sheās all happy because sheās admiring the nice smell of the pretty sachet she has; the other concubines present also have some. Crown Princeās mom and the Empress are there, too. The grandmother, learning that Jingmum made the sachets, eagerly asks that she be invited into the hall. Apparently her status is so lowly she cannot visit the grandmother without permission?? Thatās so unfair. I wonder if the Emperorās displeasure with Jing is thus reflected onto Jingās mother, or if sheās just always been a nobody.
(Sidenote: the Empressā headdress is a MARVEL. Itās been a while since Iāve commented on costumes. That headdress might be my favourite costume piece of the episode. Either that, or Mei Chang Suās cute white turtleneck thing.)
When Jingmum comes in, Princess Supreme Li Yang is there. She is so sweet? Jingmum offers her a gift of a sachet, too, but then uses that moment where she presses it into the Princessā hand to squeeze her hand hard, and the Princess immediately knows something is up. This is a code of some kind, probably a āwe need to talkā or something similar.
Grand Empress Dowager, meanwhile, has another memory time slip; she seems to think that Jingmum is new to the harem, and is still just as warm and kind to her, because sheās such a wonderful old lady.
And THEN THIS HAPPENS:
āAfter Consort Chen gave birth, she isnāt feeling very well. You are a medical maid. Since the Lin family sent you here, you must take good care of her.ā
Whoa, whoa, whoa. As the grandmother says this, EVERYONE gets visibly nervous and the music gets very tense. There is no Consort Chen, the Empress says. She died a long time ago.
The poor old grandmother immediately is extremely distressed, and starts begging for her eldest grandson. What has happened to her eldest grandson? She cries. Nothing good, I think. Darn it, this old woman has punched me in the heart AGAIN. I will never trust a scene with her in it ever again, so help me. The various women flutter around trying to calm her, and order Jingmum out of the hall, saying this is her fault.
Okay: there is a LOT to unpack here. First: Consort Chen. I donāt know who she is, but clearly her death was NOT a natural one. It definitely had something to do with whatever went down twelve years ago. Second: the eldest grandson. I donāt know who he is? Maybe Iāve heard before, but not enough that I recognize his name. Presumably he was also part of that disaster. Iām assuming both he and his mom (?) were implicated in the same false treason that took down Lin Shu himself, because those women looked scared to hear those names brought up. Furthermore, if he was the eldest son, then Iām guessing that he was a main target in whatever plot went down. Third: the Lin family sent Jingmum? So sheās related to Lin Shu directly? (Aside: I know a bit more about how the various families are connected from where I am in ep16 now, but at the time I watched this I was a lot more up in the air.)
Later, Jingmum is visited by the Princess, who made up some excuse about a rash so she could visit the medically-skilled minor concubine. In truth, sheās just there because she got the signal earlier and wants to know why Jingmum wanted to talk. Itās a refreshing change to see Court women sneaking about for the sake of good, instead of because theyāre wicked snakey people (looking at you, Crown Prince mom and Empress). Jingmum explains about what she overheard, and the Princess FREEZES. Thereās a flashback, and oh my gosh. The princess was given the wine by HER OWN MOTHER???? WHO ARRANGED HER DAUGHTERāS DRUGGING TO ENABLE THE MARQUIS TO HAVE HIS WAY WITH HER???? THEREBY TRAPPING HER IN AN IMPOSSIBLE DILEMMA OF DISHONOR UNLESS SHE MARRIED HIM?? This is despicable. Itās horrific. And I feel horrible for both the Princess and for Jing Rui, who surely knows nothing of this, and ughhhhhhh. Itās so gross. HER OWN MOM.
Anyway, the Princess is first angry that this painful history is brought up, but when she realizes someone is in danger of suffering this fate today, she is first shocked and then turns all to steel. Jingmum tells her only she can save Ni Huang, who is surely the target of the unknown schemer. Many people are desperate to be allied to Ni Huang and her family via marriage right now. Somehow, they have to protect her.
Does Lin Shu know this is going on???? I canāt imagine how he would, but surely he wonāt be kept in the dark for long.
Speaking of Lin Shu, the kids are still flailing around with their swords and they look more adept now. Chang Su congratulates them and they all grin back at him and itās very cute. This has probably been the best week of their lives. Why is he so good with kids??? The cynic in me is like ābecause heās good at manipulating peopleā but I like to think itās the Lin Shu part of him, not the Chang Su, that connects with them. Anyway, Fei Liu is like an angry, jealous cat until Chang Su, somehow managing to keep a straight face, gives him a very deliberate compliment to mollify him.
And then: Jing is back! And never mind what I said earlier, HIS costume might be my favourite of the episode. Those strong, vibrant colors? That bright red belt? LOOKING GOOD, JING.
The children scamper off to play, but Ting Sheng pauses to smile shyly at Jing before he goes and I melt a little. Jing is here to check on the boy, but also to let Chang Su know heās researched his background. Is it just me, or did Chang Su look a bit excited at that? He lights up a little at the prospect of finding out how well heās duped Prince Jing. A little too well, as it turns out. Jing is particularly cutting as he says, funny story, he tends to be pretty ignorant of politics (heavily implying that politics is the Worst), but he has found out that Mei Chang Su is buddies with both the Crown Prince AND Prince Yu, isnāt that interesting? Coming from someone as forthright and firmly principled as Jing, this is a slap in the face. He somehow manages to even turn how he sips his tea into a diss. Chang Su definitely pauses here; I honestly think Lin Shu planned for this, but that he didnāt anticipate how much it would sting to have Jing think so little of him. He CLEARLY cares a lot about Jingās opinion of him, which might prove problematic to his persona, I imagine. He says heās not their friend, they just both want him as their ally, and Jing scoffs: surely the great Mei Chang Su didnāt come to the capitol NOT to try to seize power?
No, that is true, agrees Chang Su. He does want to help guide the next Emperor. Jing looks a little disappointed, but not surprised. He asks with pointed restraint whether Chang Su is going to support the Crown Prince or Prince Yu.
And this is the moment Lin Shu has been waiting for, for who knows how longāyou can tell that this is a moment he has been longing forāhe doesnāt want either of them. Iād like to choose you.
I did NOT see this coming, but the instant he said it I was like YESSSSSSSSSSS!!!!! Heās not just tearing down: heās building up!! Itās not just about ruining the people he hates, he is going to beat them at their own game by raising up an Emperor HE wants!!!! Omg. Omg. So hyped. This revelation made me SO. HAPPY. Because it makes the stakes IMPOSSIBLY higher, and it also makes me love Lin Shu even more. Because this is solid confirmation that this isnāt just a revenge story, and Iām just ECSTATIC because this game Lin Shu is playing is also going to be soooooo much more complicated and multilayered than I had anticipated if Jing as Emperor is his end goal. Heās going to have to play the court like a fiddle, and omg I canāt wait to see him work. Plus, I WANT JING TO BE EMPEROR. So I am aaaaaaall in. This is the best reveal ever.
Jing, meanwhile, almost gets whiplash from how fast he turns to stare at the placidly smiling Chang Su. He looks absolutely dazed for a good few seconds, and itās adorableāand then he bursts out laughing. This poor man.
He sits down and downs a cup of tea like itās a shot, which made me laugh in the midst of my giddy excitement, ahahahaha, and then, slightly bitterly, Jing lays out plainly to this strategist just how impossible it is for him to reach the throne. His mother is of low rank, he has no noble family connections through her, he has no connections in the world of politics or in any of the various government ministries, heās spent basically his entire adult life soldiering and so has no worthy connections there, he is not even a high-ranked prince himself even though heās 31 because, oh yeah, his dad the current Emperor HATES HIM. So, good luck with that, Chang Su. Hearing Jing list all the ways heās a (supposed) failure made me so sad. I know basically nothing about him as a person, but I know on instinct that he deserves so much better. Again: the acting is so good. Also the music. The Music starts up in this scene and itās awesome.
Chang Su looks levelly at Jing. I know you are at a disadvantage, he says. But I have no other choice. And for just a second, he sounds DANGEROUS. Itās one of the few times so far, I think, that Lin Shu is speaking 100% honestly, no restraint or hiding behind masks, but pure INTENT, and the depth of the emotion he had in that one line was justāyes. Yes, do it. Take down those who wronged you, and work impossible wonders to get Jing made Emperor. DO IT. I BELIEVE IN YOU.
(Just ā¦ Do it without hurting Jing Rui?)
(Meanwhile, the Princess Supreme tries to visit Ni Huang but Ni Huang is away for the day. So much for that storyline for the moment.)
Back at the Snow Cottage, Chang Su tries to pour Jing more tea while explaining his plan, but Jing is stone-cold not having itāneither the tea, nor this conversation in general. I hate how distrustful he is, but it makes total sense from his point of view. Especially since he was connected to the Eventā¢ somehow 12 yrs ago, if not politically then emotionally. Small wonder that heās so distrustful and defensive! His continuing bad relationship with the Emperor has to stem from then, because he still believes that the people implicated were innocent. Ni Huang also thinks this, seemingly, but sheās more subtle about it so I guess she got a free pass. Jing comes across as a man who has grown accustomed to being always lonely and unable to trust anyone, let alone grow close to anyone, and itās horrible even though I believe that the way he has frozen up is what has kept him alive this long, I, Claudius styleāif the Crown Prince and Prince Yu thought him a threat, theyād surely have taken him out by now because he is not protected by the Emperorās good opinionāor, well, by anything, come to think of it. Furthermore, his own father could easily interpret any semblance of ambition as treasonous? Because of his apparent sympathy to the people who died a dozen years earlier, it would be a very small logical leap for the already disapproving Emperor to make. His position in both the kingdom and his own family is terribly vulnerable and I canāt blame him for having adapted the way he has. But I donāt want him to be that way??? I want him to be happy. Gah. WHY CANT THE GOOD PEOPLE IN THIS SHOW JUST BE HAPPY.
(Sidenote: I wonder if he has any sort of subconscious recognition of Lin Shu like how Ni Huang has, but if itās affecting him in an opposite wayāmaking him even MORE guarded and hostile, instead of instinctively trusting this stranger. Based off the music cues and the acting, Lin Shu and Jing definitely have a Past. Iām eager to find out what that Past is, but alsoāIām very scared. The more these two interact the worse Iām going to feel watching it, probably.)
Chang Su tells him he wants to support him simply because political success while backing such a hopeless candidate for the throne will make him, Chang Su, look even more impressive than he would if he worked with one of the other two Princes. Jing seems to believe that this selfish, ugly motive is the truth, which is good for Lin Shuās goals and secret identity, but alsoāughhhhhh. Jing also comments on how he cannot understand how people like Chang Su, who are obsessed with political manipulation and power grabs, think. Againāthis is the WORST, because Lin Shu CLEARLY understands Jing really well. So presumably Jing would similarly understand Lin Shu if he knew who he was. But he doesnāt, so. Shu just keeps impaling himself on the sword of Jingās scorn to coax the stubbornly righteous prince into working with him.
(Sidenote: Jing has THE most beautiful eyebrows. Theyāre so impressive. Truly worthy of gracing an Emperor. Crown Princeās sad āstache shouldnāt stand a chance.)
Finally, Chang Su asks Jing plainly if he WANTS either of the other princes to take the throne. Jing is visibly upset by this and says essentially that if Chang Su is as great a strategist as everyone says, then he should know the answer to that already. Chang Su smiles and says of course he does: he IS the Divine Talent, after all. I still am amused that he even has that name for himself? But it seems to be well-earned, so go ahead and call yourself whatever you like, Chang Su. Does this mean we can say he actually has four names? Good grief.
Jing gets VERY intense and says that thereās no hope of the throne for himself, but he will do ANYTHING if the Divine Talent can prevent those other two from taking the throne. (Actually, hilariously, the subtitles on dramafever have him say he would āpay whatever prince it takesā but Iām assuming heās actually meaning heād pay any price, metaphorically speaking, not that heād bribe any prince. Because that would kinda go against his whole character as established up to this point, so.)
Chang Su tells Jing that Ting Shengās freedom will be his first gift to him. If Jing accepts that gift, then they will be partners in this play for power. Jing is clearly conflicted over this, and soothes his uneasy conscience by telling Chang Su plainly that he does not like sneaky, manipulative people like this, so even if Chang Su does help him to the throne, Chang Su isnāt guaranteed any kind of fame or reward. Chang Suāwho, again, looked ever so slightly hurt by Jingās appraisal of his characterāsays thatās fine; there is time enough for negotiating rewards later. What really matters to him is how Jingās temperament is different from the other two Princesā.
(Also, the music, you guys. THE MUSIC. WHY IS THE OST NOT ON ITUNES.)
Weāve never met, Jing tells him coldly. How could you know what my temperament is like? Oh, Prince Jing. I have only known you as long as the fake Mei Chang Su has, and even I know what your temperament is like. Also, did Shu slip in saying what he did, or was it planned? It felt spontaneous. He backs off the statement a little, changing tack and instead reminding Jing that if he doesnāt want the other two princes as Emperor, then Jing is the only other possible successor; no other prince is eligible. The scene ends there, butāI think Chang Su has got him. I think Jing is the type that he wonāt be able to get those plainly presented facts out of his head, and heāll talk himself into actually going for the throne just so he can stop his terrible brotherās. I donāt think Chang Su has to push him anymore, he just needed to plant that seed. Iām so excited.
Cut to Marquis Xie, who is apparently having his wife followed??? His wife, who he drugged and raped decades ago???? He can NOT get any worse, what a disgusting slug of a man. Unfortunately he seems like heās also very clever. Unfortunate for Lin Shuās scheming, that is; itās very fortunate for the story because watching Shu work his magic wouldnāt be anywhere NEAR as compelling or as satisfying if he was just given a bunch of straw men opponents to knock down. Major kudos to the show (and, Iām assuming, the novel) for making basically everyone intelligent. A lot of times stories with brilliant protagonists just write everyone else as stupid so that the protagonist just seems smart; making EVERYONE smart is way harder to write, but the payoff is HUGE. Yes, Mei Chang Su does make some Sherlock-Holmes-esque leaps of logic sometimes that donāt NECESSARILY have to lead to what he concludes, but that being said itās usually pretty solidly done, plus he has tripped up a couple times anyway, so he isnāt always right. I can live with a handful of convenient deductions when the narrative and emotional payoff is this good.
Anyway, back to what I was saying: Marquis Gross is having people follow his wife. He knows that she tried to visit Ni Huang and that she was not successful. Iām curious about WHY he is spying on her, though. Is he just a jealous husband? Or does he have spies tailing other people, too? I would have thought heād have had Mei Chang Su followed by now, if that were the case.
Back at the Snow Cottage, Meng is peering at Ting Sheng while the boy sleeps. Itās not as creepy as it sounds. Also, I half expected Meng to accidentally drip candle wax on the kidās face and wake him up, lolll. He nods at Chang Su like heās confirming something, and once they are back at Chang Suās tea tableāan already iconic location in this show, tbhāhe says something about are you sure that slave kid is Prince Qiās son? And instantly Iām like ohhhhhhh, wait. Wait. Is Prince Qi the supposed leader of the fake rebellion, the dead grandson the old grandma Empress was crying about earlier?? The oldest prince????? Because of COURSE Jing would care about this boy, if so. But the Emperor can have no idea, I would think? Otherwise this boy would be dead, Iām prettttttttty certain.
Lin Shu lays all this out, and Meng admits the boy looks like the dead prince a lot. He then brightens and says, well, at least this shows the gods have a conscience! The look on Lin Shuās face when Meng says thatāsomehow, I reeeeeeally doubt he feels the same, lol. Again, Meng asks what happened 12 years ago and how Lin Shu survived, what horrors has he had to go through, to be here alive but apparently 100% transformed? Once again, Shu sidesteps this question. Once again, I am incredibly frustrated. He says the only thing about his survival that matters is that he will not let this life heās managed to cling to go to waste.
Then we cut to Ni Huang sitting in what I assume is her manor? Her armor and campaign map are on display in the background anyway, nice touch. Sheās reading something. Her brother comes in and asks about the childrenās chances against Baili Qi (oh yeah, almost forgot about him after that Jing-Shu talk scene) and Ni Huang doesnāt seem like she was that impressed. Her brother is instantly upset and starts to march over to Chang Suās house in the MIDDLE OF THE NIGHT (I love this brash kid) but Ni Huang sharply forbids him. She reminds him, too, that just because the kids might not defeat Baili Qi doesnāt mean SHE canāt. I totally believe Ni Huang could take him, because I want to believe in her. Sheās amazing.
Back to the Snow Cottage, Meng is aghast at the notion of Jing vying for the throne. Heās definitely worried that this plan will get Jing killed. Heck, IM worried about the same thing! But Lin Shu has an answerāa terrible, terrifying, heartbreaking answer:
Doesnāt he still have me? Leave all those despicable and ruthless tactics to me. If we are to overthrow those evil villains, the innocent are bound to be hurt. At times, we might even have to be ruthless to them. If Prince Jing canāt bear to inflict such pain, I will.
There is a LOT to unpack from this little speech (once I stop sniffling and blink these drafted tears from my eyes). Firstly! Lin Shu knows how Jing is limited by his morals and principles AND HE DOES NOT WANT TO CHANGE THAT. He is not setting out to make Jing into a more ruthless person; he needs Jing to stay, well, Jing, if he is going to succeed in putting a Good Emperor on the throne. Secondly!! STAY AWAY FROM JING RUI AND YU JIN. It seems my instincts that Mei Chang Su somehow befriended Jing Rui for ulterior motives is were correct, ughhhhh. Thirdly!!! This speech comes RIGHT on the heels of his previous statement that never mind what horrific suffering he has endured; the important thing is that he is alive and thus he must not waste his life. This plan of his seems more and more like a sacrificial suicide of both body and soul; he knows he doesnāt have long to live (according to his conversation in episode 1), and so he risks what little time he has left by going back to the capitol and exerting himself far beyond what I imagine is safe, both mentally and physically. Not only that, but he knows good, upright Jing would never stoop to the underhanded machinations necessary to win the throne on his own, so here comes Lin Shu willing to sacrifice his own sense of righteousness to keep Jing Good as well as to make him win. Weāve had enough clues now that I really, really, REALLY donāt think this scheming and manipulating and cold calculatory nature is something that is actually natural to our sickly avenger. It is simply that in his mind the end goal justifies any means, ANY AT ALL, and that includes not only hurting innocents, but also hurting himself. Before Lin Shu throws any innocent or good person to the wolves for the sake of Jingās success, he is throwing his own self away. Before his body perishes, he is already attempting this suicide of self: now that he has his life, he has to make sure it is not wasted. He exists only to get his vengeance and to eradicate the corruption in his family and the government that essentially cost him his life all those years ago, and this means he exists only to use himself up as a sacrifice to ensure Jing wins this harrowing political game. Meng has commented repeatedly on how this Lin Shu is physically changed. He is trying to hold to an equally drastic mental change. In light of this revelation, all of his scenes with Ni Huang, who is subconsciously drawn to the Lin Shu thatās still in there, are made approximately 500% more painful. UGHHHH.
Iām still not over this scene; I might never be over this scene; but I have to move on, so now we cut to the Princess, Jing Ruiās mom. She tells her maids to cover for her and then makes a spectacularly conspicuous escape from her rooms, heading to the cottage where Mei Chang Su is staying. Seriously, she is still in her fine silks, sheās carrying a lantern larger than her head; all she did was cover her hair with a lovely hood. I donāt know where her husbandās spies are right now? But they should be fired.
But somehow she sneaks successfully to Chang Suās door. He looks surprised, but lets her in for a chat after Meng stealths away. Sheās come to tell him about the plot she was told about to drug Ni Huang. He asks canāt she put a stop to this without his help? This poor woman looks decidedly bitter as she tells him that her high rank as Princess Supreme really isnāt much use. She canāt do anything herself for fear that her husband and children will be implicated, and she doesnāt have anyone to accuse anyway. Chang Su assures her he will help. I really like this woman; I donāt have her name down yet. Li Yang? Something like that. Sheās so pretty and her voice is so distinct, and I feel so badly for her. And how brave she is to take this risk in the hopes of saving Ni Huang from what happened to her!
But uh-oh, thereās trouble: the Marquis is on his way to his wifeās empty room. The Princess Supremeās maids panic, until this utterly fantastic old maid (or governess, of somesuch? An old servant who knows how to play people just as well as Mei Chang Su, anyway) takes the situation in hand. She tells the Marquis his wife doesnāt want visitors. When he protests that but itās him, though! She responds with oh, his wife ESPECIALLY doesnāt want to see him. Something happened with grandmother Empress today and she saw a room in the palace that reminded her of something that happened a long time ago, soooo ā¦
This scene was brilliant. He backs down SO fastāand almost looks ashamed??? Too little, too late, you horrid man. I have no sympathy for him at all. But as a result of his guilty response (which includes him exhorting the old woman to make sure his wife is well-cared for and then him walking away comically FAST) the Princess Supremeās late-night visit remains a secret, and she herself remains safe. Or as safe as she can be while living under that villainās roof. Take out the Marquis, Lin Shu, do it, do it now!!
Chang Su walks the Princess Supreme out of his house to be polite, looking very calm, but the instant sheās gone his smile drops and he runsāor the closest weāve ever seen him run, lolllll this poor invalid manāback into his cottage. Meng comes out of whatever cupboard he was hiding in (heyāwhere was Fei Liu this whole time? I just realized he was absent) and is like who could possibly want to drug Ni Huang???? Lin Shu, very deep in thought, says it has to be either the Empress or the favored Consort, the Crown Princeās mother. And he says they wonāt know which it is until one of them summons Ni Huang to the palace.
Aaaaand, end episode! Hoo boy, a LOT happened in this one, and againāit was all really important! Except for the boys training, I mean itās important that they ARE training but those were the only scenes I felt like I didnāt have to pay attention to reaaaaal closely. Jing moves further into the foreground of the action in a big way, and we FINALLY get inside Lin Shuās head a little as he shares at least a major part of what his endgame is. The stakes are sky high, everyone, and I worry that heās not going to be able to handle what must be an immense amount of stress that will only worsen as things progress. Heās already having a hard time around Ni Huang, and he hasnāt been in court very long. Also, this cliffhanger is the most intense one yet, because it involves Ni Huangās safety. I agree with the Princess Supreme that Ni Huang is clever enough to keep herself safe once sheās tipped off, so I hope Chang Su really can warn her at the palace fight! Too bad she canāt just punch the Empress or the Consort in the face, or something. That would be satisfying.
Next up: Episode 5! Hopefully I can get the post written and posted before my plane flight on Sunday. Also, I have a dance competition on Saturday, so really I would have to finish episode 5ās post by Friday to be able to post it before sometime late Sunday ā¦ I will try, but I canāt promise for sure.
Also! Sunday marks the beginning of my 10-day tour of Okinawa, which means my updates here will largely rely upon when I can find wifi. Adjust your expectations accordingly and just be prepared for my replies to comments and asks to be less prompt for a few days. And thanks again, guys, for making this viewing experience such a fun one, despite me putting off watching the show for about two years now? I only started writing these episode reactions/recaps for a couple individuals who specifically asked to know my thoughts, and I never expected there would be more of you out there who would be reading along, too, considering the show ended so long ago! Being able to chat with you all is really enhancing my first-time viewing experience, so thanks for that ^_^

Galactik Football season 3 rewatch, eps 4 - 6
Episode 4:
Aww Tia and Thran talking about TV shows, I like seeing more interactions between characters we don't see together that often.
Also Tia looking out for D'jok by getting the video checked! We see her check up on him a couple of times in these episodes, I love their friendship. Here it's like a little reversal of when D'jok was looking out for her when the whole Rocket Netherball thing was going down
Hooooow does Thran's filter program somehow let him see what happened before the explosion?? That's not filtering anything out, it's straight up new footage!
Artegor putting his hand on Aarch's shoulder after D'jok's disappearance... they're such a divorced couple with messy history who still care about each other
Clamp: Without D'jok here, we don't have a captain!
A complete non-issue since D'jok only started being the captain because Rocket left, but he's back now so
THE KINGS, THE LEGENDS!!!
Aw that little moment of the Snow Kids being a little star struck, getting to play against Aarch and Artegor at their prime. Although I still don't know how that works exactly with the holo-trainer and their irl physical fitness but whatever
THEY'RE PLAYING IN PERFECT SYNC AS IF NO TIME HAS PASSED AAAAAAA
Standing all cool as they tell their Snow Kids to take a break and then immediately crumpling with their middle aged bones ajshahaha
Why does Sonny's English dub voice sound so forced now. "It COULD be a TRAP!!"
Aaaaand now D'jok's leaving as well, that was quick
Are they... you know š³š³š³
No seriously Sonny's delivery just sells this ahahaha
I love team Paradisia's designs btw, very y2k. We've even got Clover from Totally Spies here!
Ok quick rant about the attempts at portraying "girl power":
Honestly idk about D'jok being annoyed they're all girls, this with the Elektra's comment earlier are examples of S3 being more heavy-handed like, āyeah these players are girls, but ACTUALLY that doesn't mean they're not good players!ā. Compare this to the previous seasons where we just... had players that were really good and happened to be girls, and no one needed to comment on it? Like, Kernor is the top goal keeper and Lun-Zaera is the best striker for the Wambas, plus Tia was the Snow Kid's biggest weapon in season 1 so I don't think D'jok would immediately dismiss the girls like that. Maybe he would be disconcerted at being the only boy, but still. It's like in the lego n/in/ja/go movie where they were like āshe's a GIRL, but she can still be a NINJA!ā which has a weird psychological effect of actually enforcing to kids that there is some sort of disparity between men and women, when instead they could just portray her as an equal and let that do the talking, no need to manufacture sexism so you can call it out like āhey, we're so progressive!ā (not that you can't have stories with that too, I just don't think it makes as much sense in this situation and shows a different approach than the first two seasons).
Rant over <3
NIKKI-4 IS TALLER THAN D'JOK YASSS
I like Team Paradisia's football outfits but what's the point of the visor?
They kind of have the Cyclops' style of attacking, lmao
D'jok you're such a bitch
Y'know at this point Aarch is like. Wow don't we have contracts with any of these kids? With notice periods?
I feel like S3 could have been more fun if the player switching had been more planned like, mix up the teams! The Snow Kids knew they'd have to get a player from another team but for some reason did not seem willing to let go one of their own, even though logically they would have to?
Artegor: He was bad for the team and we're better off without him!
Ah nice to see Artegor's no chill side still comes out sometimes
GASP! What a twist!
Episode 5:
Ooooh new name for a Ryker's player! Kinda wish it was the blue hair one just to distinguish easier lol
Nihla!! Although apparently Nihlis in secondary material. Not sure if it's clear what their gender is in the og French but I hc that the Shadows fuck around with gender anyway
Ok what, I remember this All Stars game happening but I thought it was later. I thought I skipped an episode for a second there because what, there was no mention of this mixed all stars game before at all??
also TIA SHOULD BE ON A TEAM
Nikki-4 sounds like the actual name Nikifor. heh
Rocket and Tia's H2O t-shirts! iconic nerds
My reaction to the Mice-delight advert breaks are the same reaction I have to any advert break
Ah ok so they were all contacted by other teams lol, in my mind Tia got contacted for the All Stars game but she turned them down because things were tumultuous for the Snow Kids and she wanted to be there for them <3
Also why are they dismayed that everyone's been contacted by other teams, that's kind of the point of this mixed flux tournament, no? It means they're good players!
Micro-Ice only got contacted by a fan club? WRITERS STOP CLOWNING ON MICE AND ONLY USING HIM FOR COMEDIC RELIEF HE IS A REALLY TALENTED PLAYER! Artie back me up
Ah ironic, Rocket can't make the flux jump and he falls, as opposed to season 2 when he saved Tia from a fall with the flux. Now I'm imagining Tia jumping up to save him and carrying him bridal style. It should have happened, writers
Rocket: Yeah I'm okay! Rocket: Actually, I take that back
We love a self-aware king who knows his limits <3
Christ it's just disaster after disaster for the Snow Kids, huh
Callie giving Nork the STINK EYE lol DRAG HIM she at least has some journalistic integrity
D'jok's being such an ass with the way he's talking about the Snow Kids, at least Mei showed there were no hard feelings when she left. What did they do to you, man? I can understand him feeling hurt and needing to get away, but now the show's going back to āD'jok only cares about winningā again. Like sure that could definitely be a front, but the show doesn't really look behind it as far as I remember
YAAAASS LUN-ZEARA
Surprised we didn't start this match with D'jok and Sinedd taunting each other
How dare you use the Pirate's soundtrack and not have a Pirate on the field >:(
YES KERNOR! weird to see her tired out though
The animation ššš
ooo call back to Netherball with this resonance thing, glad that has consequences. Cool that they show it affecting other players too, Kernor was the Netherball champion before Rocket after all
Does Simbai get dressed in her flux society clothes just to have a zoom call with them?
Ah wish we had more of that all star game
Episode 6:
Oh come on this is just sloppy now, he says the Shadows vs Rykers but that's the Pirates' logo. They got it right on the previous shot as well!
Is Mice practicing confessing to Yuki? I thought they were already dating lmao, surely they're past this
Why is Mark drawn with nipples but Micro-Ice isn't? Wait no he has them too in the next shot, what are the rules here š
Ah this scene is a classic. But š
±lease give Micro-Ice some development that's not just comedic relief, even his stuff with Yuki is played for laughs. What about the fact that his best friend, no, brother, just up and left and shits on the Snow Kids on live TV?
SHARKY THAT. DOES NOT FEEL VERY LEGAL. SEXUAL HARASSMENT, IN FACT.
Kernor enjoying her little treat <3 I love when we get to see tough characters doing mundane things like eating ice cream.
I love this butler guy who hates his job. His wince when Tia says she needs someone to talk to before he reluctantly offers an ear, LOL. An icon.
Awww I'm glad to see Tia and Mei still being good friends. Mei I missed you!
THE SHADOWS WALKING IN UNISON UNDER THE UMBRELLA DSFJKFSSDF I know I shit on the animation but they do try to put in little things like that. They didn't have to animate that, but they did, for us.
Artie and Bennett shenanigans yaaay
Not Ahito and Thran deciding to watch the Shadows match instead of supporting Yuki
It's so fun watching the Rykers with how intimidating they are. Unfortunately my brain has been ruined and I keep getting reminded of something else when I see this gesture
He looks so unbothered š¤£šš
Again, what's the point of the Elektra's visor? Their flux looks so cool though
THE SHADOWS PLAYER IS SO TALL COMPARED TO THE CYCLOPS LOL
What position is Mei even playing now
Why didn't Kernor use her flux? Honestly goalkeepers should just use their flux for every save considering they don't have to run around as much
Is it just me or is Ahito not falling asleep as much as before
4-0???!!! NOT A SINGLE GOAL FOR THE RYKERS???!! RUDE!!!
The look Tia gives Lun-Zia, wtf man, this whole jealousy plot is just ridiculous. SHE WOULD NOT FUCKING DO THAT!
Why ya'll being so mean to Mice, dafuq ToT He just got violated by the paparazzi lmao show some sympathy
Sidney's reaction to Kernor sfsdfjksfjk good taste sir
OH NO NOT ZOLEEN
Ooooooo Pirates lore!! So they were already a thing before Sonny, he just took control from Magnus Blade and gave them a PR change

"Lesson for Louie" - An upcoming episode speculation
Although it has been a week since the new Ducktales aired, Iām still not over it and I canāt wait for the next episodes (and I think Iām not the only one š).
Thatās why I rewatched the pilot and the trailers several times in the last days, trying to find any possible hints for the plot in upcoming episodes. And especially one scenario shown in the trailers wouldnāt get out of my head. Itās this one:
Scrooge: āAny big plans for today?ā
Louie: āMoving to the big TV in a few hours, y'know.ā *BURPS*
Aside from being a hilarious example of Louieās laziness and laid-back attitude, this scene could be the starting point of an arc similiar to the one weāve seen featuring Scrooge and Dewey in the pilot: Scrooge and Dewey both sharing a love for adventure, but Dewey is reckless and just goes for it, while Scrooge, as an experienced adventurer, tries to teach him to be more careful. In the end, they both learn from each other.
We know that Louie and Scrooge share same interests, too: they love treasures and making profit. But Louie is not willing to do anything for it, he doesnāt see the hard work behind the fortune his great uncle has made, and the fact that, even if Scrooge is rich, he canāt just put his feet up and relax, he still has to lead McDuck Industries and manage his assets.
After some research, I found out that Matt Youngberg, one of the seriesā producers, stated at D23 expo: ā[ā¦]One of our early episodes is Scrooge seeing Louie unproductive and deciding that he wants to teach him a little bit about productivity.ā
So, itās even confirmed that weāre going to get a episode exploring the relationship between Scrooge and Louie plus Louie getting a lesson about being more āproductiveā.
But how could the overall plot of such an episode look like? How could Scrooge try to teach Louie a little bit about productivity?
Using the hints given in several trailers and even in the seriesā intro, Iām going to speculate a bit about this upcoming episode (Iāll call it āLesson for Louieā, itās not official š) and its possible plot.
(English is not my first language btw, so please bear with me)
So, Uncle Scrooge is trying to motivate our favourite green triplet; but where could Louie learn something about productivity?
Well, Scrooge could take his nephew to a business meeting (with those suspiciously villainous looking vulture guys) to show Louie his daily business with economy which requires productivity and motivation. Still a better plan than watching TV and drinking āPepā all day long! (Rightā¦?)
What could be the main topic in this meeting? Why does Louie look so excited (while the vultures are looking very annoyed/bored)?
I think I have a possible answer for you. In this meeting, a well-known genius inventor presents his latest invention to his boss:
(Source: X)
Yup, Iām talking about the one and only Gyro Gearloose and Little Bulb (aka Little Helper in the comics)! Just look at the background, it shows the same brown wall found in the meeting room.
This could also be the first time we are introduced to Gyro Gearloose and Lilā Bulb (and Fenton, perhaps?? Pretty please????) in the series.
Gyro presenting Little Bulb like aā¦ wellā¦ little bulb, wouldnāt quite impress Scrooge and the vultures. But look, heās holding a remote in his hand (or wing? Whatever)! Lil Bulb isnāt just a helpful lilā assistant to Gyro, no, he is able to transform into a massive, laser shooting roboter we even see in the intro:
Itās very likely that Little Bulbās big robot form is intended to serve as some kind of a bodyguard, or a device for protecting Scroogeās money. Maybe the Little Bulb we see in the promotional picture is just a prototype yet to be tested, and is going to be produced in series, if it turns out to be a successful invention?
But we all do know that despite how ingenious Gyroās inventions are, they always tend to have someā¦ flaws; they often donāt work like they should to which leads to a terrible mess.
Thatās why I believe Louie will accidently provoke Little- uh, pardon me, Big Bulb (Iāll call him like that now XD) to chase him through the archives located beneath Scroogeās money bin:
(I believe it to be the archives because thereās a room full of books in the background of the last screenshot)
Poor Louie. He just wanted to chill and watch TV XD.
Of course, Louie will team up with Gyro and Scrooge to stop āBig Bulbā from rioting and causing more damage.
But what would Louie essentially learn in this episode? And did Scrooge fail in trying to teach his nephew about productiveness? (I mean, he got interrupted by a giant angry robot going savage)
I donāt think so.
Scroogeās attempt was to get Louie out of the house and showing him how to be productive instead of wasting time with watching TV. This and the matter of Big Bulb rioting resulted in Louie actually becoming productive, in trying to stop the giant robot, and coming up with possible solutions for the problem. And maybe, Scrooge will learn something from Louie in return, who knows?
In the end, this are just speculations of mine (but if some of them turn out to be right, Iāll be very happy š). I just canāt wait for this episode and Iām looking forward to a similiar arc with the last triplet, Huey!
All whatās left to do is waitā¦ and making more speculations and theories š (you can bet there will be more!)ā¦
UPDATE: OMG! After finishing this post, I went back to watch a clip from the D23 I found on YouTube as I couldnāt quite recall Youngbergās exact formulation. And I noticed something huge which I didnāt realise before: Right after Youngberg giving us the information about an upcoming episode in which āScrooge decides to teach Louie about productivityā, the other developer of the series, Francisco Agones, mentions āgiant robotsā.
Youngberg instantly replies:
āCause y'know, who wants to learn about economics if it doesnāt have a giant robot!ā
Iā¦ Iāll just leave this here. š

Quick asks roundup
Iām going out of town this afternoon for labor dabor, and probably wonāt be around much during the weekend. Thought Iād answer a few asks below--just a grab bag, with a vague focus on S7. Should be able to do a video one of these next week, and Julia and I are eyeing a UBS podcast episode pretty soon too.
Anonymous said to gotgifsandmusings: Have you read David Benioff's book City of Thieves? I'm curious how it compares to GoT.
I havenāt, no. Iām not sure if thatās something I want to subject myself to (it has been mostly positively received from what I know, though not across the board) when thereās so much Iāve been putting off reading as it is.
Anonymous said to gotgifsandmusings: Is cerseĆÆ pregananant in the boox?
Sheās actually gregnant.
Anonymous said to gotgifsandmusings: Just read your criticism about Fair Game and wholeheartedly agree. You touched on the core of why your (and Julia's and Caroline's and Jess' and Turtle's) GoT analysis are so great: they understand the intersection of narrative flaws and social issues. Sure, some people may complain that they don't want "SJW" stuff, except, y'know, you don't stop being a feminist when you write a review. As you say, media is not produced in a cultural vacuum. Sadly, I admit I feel reluctant to...... Actively criticize GoT with people around me because the ones who dislike it also dislike ASOIAF and fantasy/sci-fi ("The show is bad because GRRM is a bad writer who isn't really character-driven, but it's not surprising since genre stuff is awful"). That sucks :(
Yes, exactly! This is in reference to this piece by myself and Julia, btw. Thatās really depressing about that perception of genre fic, especially given what Martin does being so unique. Iāve never particularly understood that attitude; I want to read about cool places and stuff happening as much as I want to read about weighty character journeys, and why scoff at any that pull off both? Though Julia has a piece on that too.Ā
But absolutely, as we said, itās asinine to ignore the ways culture shapes media and vice versa, and often the reason the writing is so poor is because itās so sensationalist or reliant on shitty tropes and stereotypes.Ā āJust enjoy it (or critique) without focusing on social issuesā is the ultimate sign of privilege, and it drives me crazy because itās tossed out as an appeal toĀ āobjectivity.ā IF YOUāRE IGNORING PEOPLEāS EXPERIENCES YOUāRE ALREADY NOT BEING OBJECTIVE.
Anonymous said to gotgifsandmusings: I'm curious why you guys interpret Cersei's internalized misogyny as nothing to do with gender dysphoria. All because Cersei doesn't break down during her period doesn't mean you must read her as cisgendered. She treats femininity like her least-favorite subject in school, not like part of herself. You're welcome to read her story as about women internalizing misogyny, but her thoughts feel familiarly trans, and outright denying that reading closer-to-earths her
This is really interesting, and my assumption would definitely a result of my own distance with that experience. Are there any metas on it? I havenāt really considered this before (Iāve seen the case argued for Brienne), and Iām not very convinced Martin had much intentionality here, but thatās a reading of her character Iād definitely like to learn/think more about.
Anonymous said to gotgifsandmusings: How can Euron "Crow's Eye, Terror of Pentos" Greyjoy come across as such a wimpy villain that I'm missing Ramsay? Hell, effing Joffrey could have torn that cuddly pooh bear a new one.
But...heās the storm. You werenāt quaking in your boots when his fleet armada magically descended on Yaraās?
Anonymous said to gotgifsandmusings: I haven't seen anyone else comment on this, but did you notice Cheryl says "You expect me to command our troops to fight beside foreign scum?" almost immediately before telling Jaime she's bringing the foreign Golden Company from Essos to fight beside their troops? Do you think the writers ever make it to second drafts or do they just knock out the first on the back of a Hooters napkin over Natty Ices and fist bumps and say, nah, we're good bro?
A showpologist would tell you itās clearlyĀ demonstrating what a horrible hypocrite she is and actually rather cutting commentary.
Itās really, really hard for me to imagine a world where Operation Capture a Wight received a look-over. A whole lot of what they do feels thoroughly unedited.
Anonymous said to gotgifsandmusings: Hey, I really appreciate all your GoT analysis. 1) Is Cheryl's assistant actually Ezri Dax? 2) Did you see Linda's episode review where she called D&D "smug idiots?" 3) Is it possible to enjoy GoT as schlock? I can't and don't, but It is certainly bad enough and dumb enough. Thanks!
Thank you :)
1) According to wikipedia, Ezri Daxās actor is currently starring in āCorrupt aka Trust No Oneā andĀ āWhereās my Babyā, but Iām glad you made me look her up, because the resemblance there is quite uncanny. The maid is played by Sara Dylan, and has actually been a consistent, recurring character since Season 2. Apparently her name isĀ āBernadetteā because why not.
2) Was it her newest review? I do listen to those in the background of work when Iām doing spreadsheet kind of stuff, so I may not have caught that exactĀ phrase, but I did hear the part where she basically saidĀ ājust donāt even bother writing a plot. Only write battles because everything else is terrible.ā
3) I mean, the people enjoying GoT areĀ watching schlock, so it must be possible. I happen to think the ardent defenders/honeypotters arenāt the majority, and most people turn it on to watch dragons for 60 minutes, then talk about how cool the dragons looked the next day at work. Itās just that GoT comes with a stamp ofĀ āSMART ADULT SHOWā for reasons that will never cease to amaze me. So yeah, totally, but for me, I have a hard time enjoying something when the more you think about it, the worse it gets.
Anonymous said to gotgifsandmusings: I would bet my right hand that someone in the GoT writers' room probably rewatched season 1 which is why there's so many callbacks to it like Arya's "that's not you", Dany's infertility, Bran's "I told you not to trust me", etc etc. Like it just seems so obvious that they realized they ran out of content and decided to just revisit past seasons to make themselves seem smart and like they planned ahead so much.
Oh 100%. Season 1 was this yearās Lord of the Rings, which they had obviously binged before last year. I love it because then all the critics are like,Ā āohh my god itās so well-planned and deep.ā But no. Itās essentially grinning into the camera goingĀ āremember when?ā, completely on par with Gendryās boat joke.
Anonymous said to gotgifsandmusings: The writers gave up 3 seasons ago, but it feels like no one was really trying this year. The cast looked bored. The wigs were trash: Dany's fire-proof wig is also boatsex-proof and freezing wind-proof. The costumes were either too anachronistic for a so-called prestiege Medievalesque Drama or straight up uninspired: Cersei's modern office wear, Dany and LF are shopping at the same department store, Lyanna S dressed up for a college roman-themed party. I guess the special effects were ok.
Iām very, very hesitant to call out costuming because I know Michele Clapton is like, making up these immaculate honeypots and ordering the finest fabrics from Lithuania to pull everything together. But...yeah, as a viewer everything was kind of clearly ridiculous (Euronās jacket), and EVERYTHING WAS BLACK with the exception of Deadpanās coat, that was, Iām sorry, objectively hideous. The reason people fawned over it was because it was actually contrasting the blah they had been seeing all season.
As for the cast, I mean...I think these guys are decent actors who get into their roles when they can. But who could get into anything happening at this point? Stuff happens, donāt question it. The directing was probably fine (I donāt know enough about that stuff), but when the script is fundamentally lazy and uninspired, itās going to bleed into everything.
Anonymous said to gotgifsandmusings: (Regarding episode 7) So the only leak that didn't come true was "Cersei's" bed of blood prediction and I'm wondering if she'll miscarry next season because morally evil incest women like Cheryl don't deserve babies while morally good (with the help of our friendzoned Saint Tš) incest women like Deadpan get to conquer infertility and birth a Targ with the help of Jonny Cardboard's magic seed. That would be one boring Aegon 2(3?) infant. Thoughts?
Honestly, I canāt make heads or tails of why she was even pregnant. Larry didnāt need that to stay on her side at all, and the only thing I can think was that it added an extra TWIST for us. Haha, viewer! You thought she might have actually wanted to fight the threat because of her unborn kid and how many times weāve told you her only redeeming quality is her motherhood, but now sheās EVHUL and even idealized motherhood canāt save her!
I guess itās...kind of trope busting?
I kind of agree though, I donāt see them letting a BAD woman give birth and mother. At the same time, I donāt see how enough time can even pass where this would be a relevant plot-point to anything. So...I just, I donāt get it. Iāve gotta figure out how to structure my sexism & s7 analysis, and going back and revisiting Cheryl is probably going to be one of the most confused parts of it. I see many paths for how this unfolds, and none of them are really too promising.
Alrighty, gotta cut it here for today. Everyone have a safe labor day weekend (I guess thereās no heightened risk for non-Americans, but a safe weekend all the same), and Iāll talk to you guys later!
